The over all experience was fine, excellent hotels, first class bikes and the navigation system fairly good. My negative comments are the information flow and guidence, especially in the beginning, how to check in to the tour, the reception and so forth. We had expected ore formally start and some advice according to this special route. It was a need for this in relation to utility of battery function and consuming of power. We had some problems in the Tramuntana, near Sierra de Tramuntana, ran out of electricity and a little help to get from the organizer. We had the general feeling in the tour that we were more or less on our own. That can also be good

• The tram trundles along the seafront in Puerto de Soller and then takes you up through orange and lemon groves into the old town of Soller where it drops you right in the square in the middle of town.
• The train is over 100 years old and is a wooden carriage electric train that goes from Soller through the tunnels in the mountains and through the countryside before arriving in the center of Palma, Mallorca’s capital city.

Mallorca Boat Trips

In summer in Mallorca, boat tours are the most popular days out and get booked up well in advance. Since Mallorca is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean, with more than 300 beaches and 500 kilometers of coastline, there is plenty to see and do at sea. There are many options of boat tours on offer in Mallorca: big boats that hold up to 300 people for a two-hour ride around the bay, typical Mallorcan wooden ‘llauts’ with fishing and snorkeling options, 4–5-hour catamaran tours with lunch and drinks, and exclusive sailing yachts with full crew and service.

When considering a boat tour in Mallorca, you should take into account a number of factors:

• The price of the boat trip, because prices can vary massively.
• The type of boat: a catamaran, a tourist glass-bottom pleasure boat, a sailboat, or a speedboat.
• Whether you are looking for a shared tour or something more exclusive, with few people.
• The departure point: choose something close to where you are staying or have in mind you may have to drive.

The boat tour to Cabrera Island is extremely popular among residents of Mallorca. Many tourists that visit Mallorca are unaware of the existence of this island, located just 35 minutes by boat from the port of Colonia de Sant Jordi. The whole island of Cabrera is a national park and it is the only national park in all the Balearic Islands. Cabrera preserves a rich ethnological heritage, an old castle, and beaches that can easily rival those in the Caribbean.

The tour allows you to enjoy free time in Cabrera, where you will be able to hike up to the castle and delight in exceptional views, bathe in its crystal-clear waters or learn about its history (such as its past as a prison camp) by following a walking route on the island. A highlight is on the return boat journey from Cabrera, with a stop at the famous Blue Cave, where you can snorkel in deep blue and turquoise waters that are normally only found on postcards.

Formentor Beach is considered one of the best beaches in Mallorca. The best way to get there is by boat: you don’t have to worry about parking or driving on a mountain road and you get to enjoy the beautiful views from the boat. There are boats leaving to Formentor from Puerto Alcudia and from Puerto Pollensa.

If you choose to leave from Puerto Alcudia you will be able to contemplate both the bay of Alcudia and that of Pollensa. You will pass the picturesque lighthouse of Aucanada and the famous Es Coll Baix Cove. The departure from Puerto Pollensa takes only 25 minutes bordering the coast, and you’ll pass Sa Fortalesa, where tennis ace Rafa Nadal was married. With both options you will have time to relax on the beach at Formentor, swim, and enjoy the idyllic views before the return journey.

Few people know that you can discover the city of Palma from the sea with a cool breeze on your face without having to actually walk around the city getting hot and bothered.

This boat trip is a one-hour ride around Palma Port on a wooden boat, with all its old-fashioned character. The tour takes you through the entire harbor, with views of the Porto Pi lighthouse, the impressive cruise ship area, and the San Carlos Castle, ending with a spectacular panoramic view of Palma Cathedral from the sea.

If you have the opportunity, take a boat tour to Dragonera Island. It’s a very popular tour from Mallorca and is ideal for families because it includes the boat ride, time on the island, stops for swimming and food. It’s a five-hour tour and is an absolute bargain at just 35€. The port of departure is Santa Ponsa in the south of Mallorca.

In Mallorca, boat trips to see dolphins in the wild are becoming very popular and places are very limited. The dolphin-watching tours depart early in the morning between 05:30 and 07:00 (depending on the time of year) from the north of the island: from Puerto Pollensa by catamaran and from Puerto Alcudia by boat.

Once onboard, the tour starts with a magnificent sunrise. If you have never seen the sunrise over the sea, this is an awesome spectacle in itself. Then you’ll sail out to search for dolphins. The dolphins are normally found in the high seas and normally in groups (known as pods). They may swim close to the boat and sometimes you can see them jumping and diving.

On the way back to port, breakfast is served on board. The tour lasts around three hours depending on how long it takes to locate the dolphins.

Mallorca From the Sky

It begins with a one-hour or two-hour ride along the slopes of Puig de Son Sant Marti in Puerto Alcudia. A two-hour route at Rancho Grande in Son Serra de Marina, in which you first ride through the extensive estate, and then to the dunes near the Son Serra de Marina beach. Already planning to see the next solar eclipse in 2026? What travelers need to know.

Umbraphiles feeling the post-eclipse blues should start checking the expiration date on their passports.

The next total solar eclipse is set to happen on Aug. 12, 2026, over Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia and a small part of Portugal, according to NASA . 

In North America, only a partial eclipse will be visible, so if April’s event made you an eclipse chaser and you want to see totality, you’ll need to head overseas.

Here’s what you’ll need to know before packing your bags:

Do you need a passport or visa for the best destination?

The path of totality for the 2026 eclipse mostly goes through places Americans can travel visa-free with their passport, so long as they’re planning to stay for less than 90 days.

Spain, Portugal, Iceland and Greenland all allow visa-free tourist travel for U.S. passport holders.

Spain, Portugal and Iceland are also members of the Schengen Area, which allows for visa-free travel in much of Europe, meaning if you decide to make a multi-country trip out of your eclipse adventure, you won’t need to clear customs if you’re coming from much of the rest of Europe, either.

One major change for travelers to Europe from the U.S., however, is that electronic preauthorization will become a requirement beginning in mid-2025. The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) requirement will apply to all four open countries in the path of totality. 

Depending on the state of the Ukraine war, travel to Russia may or may not be an option for most Americans by 2026, so it’s unclear what the paperwork requirements will be by then.

Is it better to see it from the beach?

Beaches can be a great place to see the eclipse because there are few natural obstacles blocking observers’ views of the sky. The 2026 path of totality passes over beaches on Spain’s northern and southeastern coasts, as well as over islands in the Mediterranean Sea including Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The eclipse will also pass over coastal areas in Greenland and Iceland, according to the National Solar Observatory .

Will there be eclipse cruises or flights?

Almost certainly, although most operators have not announced specific plans yet. 

Cruise lines will also offer more viewing opportunities. Princess Cruises “has created a bespoke itinerary aboard Sky Princess to position the ship near Spain on that date,” according to a spokesperson for the line. The cruise will open for bookings on Princess’s website on May 23.

Cunard Line has sailings on its Queen Mary 2 , Queen Victoria and Queen Anne vessels that will put passengers in prime spots to watch .

Holland America Line is also planning multiple sailings around the event, though details are still to be announced. “Guests have reacted positively to our 2024 eclipse cruises and with the next full eclipse in 2026 we plan to have three sailings in Europe that will align with the path of the eclipse,” Paul Grigsby, the line's vice president of Deployment & Itinerary Planning, previously told USA TODAY in an email.

Athletic Club beat Mallorca in Copa del Rey final to end 40-year trophy drought

Forty years and it all came down to a single kick. At 00.51 in the morning in Seville, Alex Berenguer stood by the penalty spot, handed one shot, one opportunity to seize everything they ever wanted. Across four decades and five consecutive defeated finals, Athletic Club had been close but never as close as this and they were not going to let go, not now. Berenguer skipped to one side, ran towards the ball, smashed it into the bottom corner of the net and just kept on running: over the advertising boards, across the track, and towards the thousands and thousands of fans celebrating their first major trophy in a generation.

Unmoor the barge they dared not name. Athletic’s traditional, almost mystical mode of transport when it comes to celebrating titles, its picture seemingly on every wall in the city, its mere mention provoking nostalgia and longing, can finally set sail again. Take it down the Nervión river and past San Mames for the first time since 1984. Back then, a million people lined the route; now, there may even be more. “There were ten commandments in the dressing room: one was not mentioning the barge; now I want to experience it for myself,” Nico Williams said. “It’s been 40 years, let’s see if it still floats,” joked Unai Simón.

“There will be a big party,” coach Ernesto Valverde insisted, and rightly so. A unique club, the heart of a community, had a unique moment, defeating Mallorca on penalties after a 1-1 draw at La Cartuja, a city 900km south temporarily populated by 100,000 of them. Valverde has won a dozen trophies as a coach. “None compare to this,” he insisted, “because of the way we have been chasing this, because of what the cup means, because of the finals we lost.”

Exhausted, Athletic had been made to suffer. They had conceded first and they had to fight back. They had been taken to extra time and all the way to penalties – which is to say that, in fact, it had gone as Mallorca had planned. They had feared that they might fall again, the goal they sought refusing to arrive. But, in the shootout they tried to avoid, they won the Copa del Rey for the 24th time. It had been some wait, and some battle too: there was genuine admiration as Athletic’s fans applauded Real Mallorca when they collected their runners up medals.

Mallorca had put their bodies on the line, heroic to the last. They had headed every ball, thrown themselves at every foot, blocked endless shots, and they had reached another shootout. They had done the same in the semi-final against the Basque Country’s other great club, Real Sociedad: getting there again was part of the plan and they had celebrated it too, leaping about and cheering in the huddle before being called to the spot, just as they had back then. This time, though, it wasn’t to be.

The 23-year-old Julen Agirrezabala, Athletic’s back-up goalkeeper, saved from Manu Morlanes and Nemanja Radonjic shot over, to leave Berenguer to make history. In the end, it was Athletic who went up to lift that cup. It had been a long, hard night – how could it not be – but here they were.

Mallorca had done all they could; it was all any of them could do to still be standing at the end of an intense, nerve-wracking night. Javi Aguirre’s team had even scored the opener after 20 minutes, a loose ball in the Athletic area proving the most valuable of all. The first shot was blocked, the second saved, but still the danger wasn’t gone. It fell to Antonio Raillo, Mallorca’s captain and the last man left in the starting XI from their third-tier days. Time was limited, the temptation to hit it, but his pulse did not race. Instead, he nudged the ball to Dani Rodríguez, who, every bit as cool, curled it into the net.

Rodríguez – who hadn’t even played a first division game until he was 31 and then scored just three minutes in as Mallorca returned to the top flight in 2019 – set off sprinting towards the corner, his team mates chasing him. This was some story potentially unfolding, the islanders seeking only their second major trophy ever, 21 years after the last.

It was also the perfect beginning. Pushed back by Vedat Muriqi, the striker whose manager says you would cross the road to avoid, and an immovable man mountain man winning every ball, Athletic had looked ill at ease to start with. And then, just as they had started to get a bit of a hold, forcing Dominik Greif to make a sharp save from Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta, they found themselves behind. For a while, Athletic seemed shaken. Here perhaps was the pressure of 40 years, five consecutive finals lost and the fact that this time they were favourites added to the difficulty of controlling the combination of euphoria and fear.

And yet, while they were not comfortable, far from the side that asphyxiates opponents, bit by bit Athletic did push Mallorca back. The best of their moments came from Nico Williams, forever the outlet running up the right. There was another sharp save from Greif and Nico thought he had equalised with a swift one-two and a smooth finish, but he had been a little too quick and was called back for offside. Not that he stopped and, just before the break, Ruiz de Galarreta slotted him in; this time, though, the shot went into the side-netting.

There was still time for Guruzeta to flash a shot just wide before the first half ended and then the second began with Agirrezabala saving from Cyle Larin, clean through. It was a big moment: from two up, the cup within reach, to a whole new ball game in a flash: within three minutes, Nico delivered a wonderful, disguised pass into the area for Sancet to bend a superb finish into the net. From the other side of the pitch, the entire Athletic bench emptied, a reflection of the release.

Although Muriqi almost caught them out soon after, Mallorca were wobbling, holding on as best they could, Athletic alive and coming for them. Nico especially; he could barely believe it when an extraordinary run into the area took him past two men. But his delivery ran right across the face of goal without his brother Iñigo managing to provide the touch to push it over the line. He did reach his brother’s delivery soon after but Greif was there again.

At the other end Antonio Sánchez, one of two substitutes sent on alongside Morlanes, fired off a warning that this wasn’t done yet, the ball flying over. The changes had done Mallorca good, the worst of the storm seemingly weathered, Radonjic the next man to be sent on and soon involved as it went towards extra time. Mallorca welcomed the possibility. Athletic made one last effort to escape it, Greif scrambling away Dani Vivian’s shot and Guruzeta heading a fraction wide, but it was inevitable. Five to midnight, and still they went on.

Athletic’s captain, Iker Muniain, a veteran of five lost finals, was introduced and saw one chance fly over and a free kick curl into the side netting. For a fraction of a second, some thought it was in. The margins were fine, hearts in mouths, Nico just unable to force one over the line and Muriqi reaching a header. Agirrezabala saved then, and again when penalties came. Until one man was left, one shot for the ages.
