Unleashed 2020 Tour

At The Great Saltair

Full lineup to be announced

About Kayzo: Over the past three years, Houston born and now Los Angeles resident, Hayden Capuozzo or KAYZO, has become one of the most sought after young producer/DJs in the business. The young prodigy has quickly grabbed attention of fans and fellow DJs with his versatile sound and catalogue of original productions, collaborations and remixes. With the establishment of his “Doghouse” brand, fans have turned to KAYZO to seek more than his music.

KAYZO has went from a graduate student of the production school, Icon Collective, to becoming a winner of Insomniac’s Discovery Project which gave him first chance to showcase himself live. Three years later, KAYZO can now be found traveling as an international DJ performing at festivals and headlining shows across the globe. KAYZO and his Doghouse stand for more than music but a mental determination with a motto that preaches ‘anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it.’

KAYZO has no boundaries as continues to break barriers that are set up before him. He produces music, not defined as a genre but what he simply likes and enjoys creating. Much of his influence comes from the music he grew up on and the elements can be heard throughout the bodies of work. Outside of production, his mixing and versatile style across multiple genres has created a unique and one of a kind performance.

KAYZO and the Doghouse is growing fast and fierce, what he has accomplished in the past few years is only a testament of what is to come. The future is bright for KAYZO and the Doghouse and nobody knows that better them.

Bruh what was up with that screamo stuff. Thought this was an electronic music concert. Should have vetted these groups better on spotify. Didn't stay for Kayzo cuz I was so bored and tired. 3/10. Kayzo himself might have been lit, don't know, but the lineup before him was awful.

This was my first time seeing Kayzo and it definitely won't be my last. I've been to many raves and this one was on a whole other level. Kayzo is a unique producer. His sound is unlike anything you've ever heard. He blends dubstep with punk rock/metal so well. It's almost like they were meant to be mashed together and everyone was there for it. I was headbanging so hard my neck is sore. Not only that but my entire body hurts and I have scratches and bruises in the weirdest places. That's how you know it was a good time. Highly recommend you to go to one of Kayzo's shows at least once in your life. The pain you'll feel the next day will be totally worth it.

Absolutely amazing. They all came out with crazy good energy and really threw down even for a small crowd. Broke my damn neck from headbanging so hard. Never listened to Kayzo much but he definitely knows how to get the crowd going

Kayzo talks about his Unleashed XL tour and what it means to headline The Forum in Los Angeles [Interview]

Kayzo’s humble beginnings as a student of Icon Collective in Southern California seem like a lifetime ago, now that he’s just announced his Unleashed XL tour for 2023, ending with a headlining performance at the iconic Forum in Los Angeles. Since he started the project in 2012, he’s hit every marker of growth and has steadily grown as an artist and person, leading to this truly monumental occasion.

The Unleashed XL tour is on sale now . We caught up with Kayzo over the phone this week to talk about his biggest headline show to-date, reigniting the Unleashed tour after COVID, and what it took make this all happen.

So I’ve known you for I think about seven years now, since that first interview in the pizza shop in North Hollywood.

Oh, my God, dude. Yeah, that is such a throwback. I forgot all about that setting until now.

I was at your first Doghouse takeover at Avalon in 2016. I think I was at your first EDC too when you went back to back with Protohype and Lookas in 2015.

Oh, yeah, the bassPOD, we opened it up at doors.

Now you’re headlining one of the most iconic venues in Los Angeles, The Forum. When that offer came through, what was going through your head, especially looking back at where you’ve come from?

You said it best. It’s one of the most iconic venues in Los Angeles and one of the most iconic historical venues around just judging by its history. It’s been 5 years, going on six next year, from my last headline play in LA which was at the Palladium.

kayzo unleashed tour slc

Was it really that long?

Yeah, dude, isn’t that crazy? Yeah, it was like 2017 when I did the Palladium. And so, obviously, with COVID our plans that we had at that time got pushed back, so it’s been five years since the last LA show, you know, LA being kind of sentimental for me. It’s important to me because it’s where everything started musically for me back in 2012 so making sure that we put on the biggest, best Kayzo show that we can possibly do in Los Angeles is kind of like top priority, right? It’s kind of like, you set the tone with it. It’s like a mile marker and kind of performance in Los Angeles, always for me. So when we were kind of figuring out where we wanted to play, what our target was, and what our goal was for the show, The Forum always stuck out to me because, you know, I’ve been to other shows at the Forum. Non-dance music shows specifically. And I remember the last rock show I saw there. It was Bring Me The Horizon in 2019, and I saw Fever 333, and I forgot who played in the middle. But it was the first metal and rock show that I saw at The Forum. And there’s just an energy in there that was –

That show was with Thrice. [laughs]

Yeah. Okay. It was with Thrice. Yeah, show was incredible. And, for me, it’s just, you know, growing up, listening to you know all types of different rock, metal, pop punk, alternative, kind of hardcore stuff, post hardcore, and also coming from a sports background, through hockey, that type of sports/arena style venue, those types of venues in general, I always kind of gravitate towards because it’s a good representation of my life with sports and my life with music now, since they typically house those types of events. So, the energy in those types of arenas, especially The Forum, like when I saw that show, I kind of knew right then and there that was like– I remember, I was with my manager at that show. I was like, “Dude, we will play this venue one day. We need to play here,” like there’s something about this place that just sets it apart from any other venue that I’ve been to in LA for music at that time. And so when that offer came in, it was kind of surreal because I knew it was possible to do The Forum. I just didn’t know when, and I just didn’t know how it would come about. And so when that option became available, it was super full circle for me. I started to remember all the shows I’ve been to there and just having that conversation with my manager like, “We’re going to do a show there.”

I’m so excited for the show and it’s been something that we’ve been working on for months, and we’re still working on, in terms of making it perfect for everybody by the time May rolls around.

So you’re now the third EDM artist in the past year to announce or play at the Forum. You know, Subtronics and RL Grime. And you mentioned that you haven’t seen any EDM acts there. The only ones I have seen in the past five years were Armin van Buuren and The Chainsmokers. What do you think is happening that artists, particularly, it seems, bass artists, are now playing The Forum? Are they opening up to it or is bass getting to that crossover area where The Forum is now like, “Yeah, we can do this.”

Right. It’s a good question, I think a little bit of both. I think certain acts like you mentioned at least in the last couple of months, and I was at the RL Grime show too, which was great, really, really dope show. It’s a venue where an artist that really takes pride in the vision and the storytelling behind the brand and the showmanship of the show, it’s a good place to show off that story outside of the typical club and even normal venue. It’s just a bigger stage, and it’s a different type of viewing experience than other venues that you can go see. So I think The Forum, obviously they’re coming around to see more dance music in there. Dance music is at a good place for those like large scale shows. The shows that they put on there, whether they’re electronic specific music, or with myself who does a combination of rock and electronic that’ll bring, like without giving away too much of who we have and what we’re doing, like we’re bringing an entire live experience outside of just DJing to this show and to the tour that I just announced even outside of LA for my set. That kind of resembles what I did in 2019 with Unleashed but on a larger scale in a different format, and also, you know, there’s going to be support bands and different live elements to the show that kind of bring it full circle, make it feel not less like a rave, but it brings the the storytelling and the backstory of where I come from musically, what I enjoy outside of dance music to the table.

I think they see this as a good opportunity for artists to take bigger risks. And try different things out that are not just the normal, standard, big LA show. So I think The Forum gives us a platform to take bigger risks. And I think they’re excited about showcasing that with the newer generation and the newer styles of music like electronic music and not just being so band-centric and you know, “We only do bands, we do live music,” they’re now kind of shifting and diverting towards also having more electronic music in there. So it’s kind of just coming with the times. Just like any other major city venue, festival. We’ve been seeing it for the last 10+ years, the representation of dance music artists or stages at major crossover festivals are pretty much standard at this point. So I think you’re starting to see that bleed over into the hard ticket touring aspect of things with artists, you know, electronic music doesn’t have to just necessarily be in a club or a venue that houses just electronic music. Now you can take it to The Forum or, you know, you see acts play at SoFi Stadium or Allegiant in Vegas like with Illenium. If there’s a story to be told, and there’s an audience for it, I think these venues are way more welcoming to it now.

Absolutely yeah. You sort of already touched on my next two questions a little bit, but I’ll just keep it moving. Previously, you mentioned the RL Grime show at the Forum, and I remember seeing you there the night before Escape. And I kind of mentioned to you like, “Oh, you’ve got a big announcement at Escape, huh?” I obviously had no idea it was going to be about the Forum at the time. I don’t know if you remember this.

Yeah we were at the bar talking about it.

Were you trying to, like, hide a smirk the whole time, like you knew?

Yeah. I mean, it was just kind of like I was trying to keep it under wraps just only because like, not that I was afraid of anyone saying anything. I just was excited; we had already filmed this really, really, really cool promo video that I premiered at Escape to soft announce the show to everyone in LA that was at my Escape set. So I just wanted like that to be like, outside of the promoters that booked the show and my managers, I wanted even like friends and people that I keep in touch with in the industry to be completely surprised and also blown up, like, let that be a huge moment, so I was trying really hard to just keep it under wraps until that moment happened at Escape. You know what I mean? But I was definitely excited to be there for that show and kind of just get a good insight of like, what’s to come and what the capabilities are from a production and showmanship standpoint at a venue like that, and it was really, really exciting to see what can be done in that venue.

We were also talking about your Unleashed tour. I was looking up before this, you know, for the for your last album, you announced that tour. I think it was like January or February, 2020. And that was like just a couple of months before the pandemic, and now you’re doing the Unleashed XL, even bigger than before. So, I mean, like you’ve come out of the pandemic, you know, absolutely leveled up. How does it feel to, for lack of a better phrase, overcome that adversity and come out the other side on a much bigger stage?

Yeah, that was kind of a bummer back then. I remember announcing the Unleashed tour that we were supposed to do. We announced at the beginning of 2020 and then, like, literally, like two months later, like a month after announcing or whatever it was, had to pull it all down. I just had such big aspirations for that tour because I had just got done doing the Unleashed, big one-off only shows in San Francisco and Chicago and New York, Houston, where we were testing the idea because we were playing Coachella in 2019. So we wanted to bring a live aspect to Coachella, and that’s what kind of sparked the idea of Unleashed to begin with, with some of the shows. So, we announced that big tour. We were so excited coming off Coachella and those shows and then the pandemic happens. And, you know, I never knew if I was going to get another opportunity to do the Unleashed show or something like it. You know what I mean? Didn’t know what came out was what was going to come out the other side during the whole experience with COVID.

And then coming out of it and then getting the opportunities to continue to grind and work hard on my craft, and continue to push this sound and this narrative that I am doing with my music with rock and electronic, getting the chance to, bring back Unleashed and do Unleashed XL because you know bigger, better production and kind of a different story. I’m just like super, super fortunate and grateful for it. Because that original tour idea was such an important piece to my storytelling and I didn’t know if I was ever going to tell it. And now I get to bring it back to life in a different, innovative way for 2023. It’s like full circle, and it comes with a lot of other growth, personal growth, creative growth, growth in my relationships and you know my girlfriend, family, and everything from the pandemic. I wish I would have been able to do the tour back then. But I’m almost happier that I’ve been able to kind of go through a lot more personal and creative growth and I think I’ve been able to kind of put myself in a much better and different headspace that I think will only benefit the tour and the show and all my fans that come to these shows. I’m excited that we finally get to tell it and we get to bring it all around the US and Canada and then end it off in LA at the Forum.

The lineup for the tour just got announced as well. It’s really amazing to see who’s gonna be supporting and playing with you on this run. The Forum support is still TBA. But you know, you already kind of touched on this, with a lot of your LA shows we can expect something really special. I know you can’t really get into too many specifics, but is there anything you can maybe, like, tease?

For sure. We have one date still to announce in the tour that’s like kind of spray painted out right now, and then we have those TBA supports, not because we don’t know what we’re doing, but because we are kind of just like waiting to announce those at a later date, because, yeah, they’re they’re going to be bigger than a normal show. Obviously, venues like The Forum are huge, right? So we want to really come out the gate swinging and bring something special. And also like I alluded to earlier, shows like the Forum and some of these bigger shows like we’re bringing a live aspect to them. So like we have bands, and bands as in plural, on these shows, So, I don’t want to give away too much of like, who and what, like the specifics because we’ve got some time until then, but like I will say there’s going to be a huge live aspect to that show specifically that will separate it from anything that I’ve done in LA and also anything that I’ve done in the past so far with any other Unleashed show. Stay tuned for that one. It’s going to have some things that people have been asking for outside of the band. I get hit up on social media all the time, and some of those requests are finally going to come to fruition at the Forum so I think people will be pleasantly surprised and excited for what we have planned.

Kayzo Announces Biggest US Tour Yet

Months after the release of Kayzo’s second full length album, “ Unleashed ,” he recently announced his Unleashed and Lights Out tours. Spanning from late March until early May, it’s a huge treat that Kayzo will be hitting so many new cities this spring!

This is by far Kayzo’s biggest tour to date, length and production. Featuring a full drum crew, unique stages, and tons of new music, this will be one of the most anticipated tours of the year.

Some states are lucky enough to get both tours within a few day span — most of us are just stoked for Kayzo to hit our city for the first time! Bringing two different sets and two different levels of production is something nobody expected, but we’re so glad it’s happening.

With support featuring some of our favorite artists like Spag Heddy , Wooli , Sullivan King , and more, this is a tour you wont want to miss. Alongside the EDM artists on the lineup, some stops on the Unleashed tour include I See Stars and Memphis May Fire , who Kayzo has worked with in the past.

If you’re unable to witness him on these tours, we definitely recommend catching him at a festival this season. He puts on an incredible show that’ll keep you locked in the whole set! For more information about the tour and to buy tickets click here .

What is NEW BREED? "New Breed is about the next generation. The turning of a page. The continuing journey of KAYZO and the constant progression of evolution of my sound within the many layers of what makes me who I am. Pushing myself and others to continue blur the lines of what we know as dance music and what we know as rock. Meeting in this grey area of the two worlds and not knowing what side is what. New Breed is the shedding of the old and celebrating what's to come. "

ABOUT KAYZO

WELCOME RECORDS | INDEPENDENT ARTIST

As one of the decade’s fastest rising electronic artists, KAYZO is a pioneer of the dance/rock crossover scene, with hard-hitting songs, rebellious live performances and die-hard global fans.

After winning Insomniac’s Discovery Project in 2012, KAYZO caught fire in the scene. His rework of Papa Roach’s Last Resort broke barriers between mainstream electronic and heavy metal. He’s performed at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Tomorrowland and Lollapalooza alongside the likes of Alex Gaskarth, Knife Party and Tommy Lee.

Blazing a thriving home for rocktronic music, he launched Welcome Records in 2018. That year, his debut album, OVERLOAD, carved shows in Southeast Asia and Europe. KAYZO’s explosive 2019 sparked a 15-track sophomore album, Unleashed, featuring Of Mice & Men and Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire. His Unleashed Live tour set off with Sum 41 drummer Frank Zummo across 12 North American cities. Recent songs like Suffocate (with Bad Omens) and DOMINATION (with Papa Roach and Sullivan King) have accumulated millions of plays.

In June 2022, KAYZO is set to release his latest album, NEW BREED, showing his talents of intertwining a rock and electronic feel. With features from GHØSTKID, Siiickbrain, conner, and more he seamlessly blends the two genres bringing a feel of nostalgia all while creating something new.

From bands in the studio to flames on stage, KAYZO’s continuous growth serves as a modern interpretation of heavy metal’s parallel with dubstep’s electrifying bass.

KAYZO - POSER WITH CONNER (June 03 2022)

NEW BREED tracklist

from KAYZO

1. Underground: Amid the flurry of shows and festivals coming back all at once, I had the urge to create a new song that would be an intro to my live sets. I've done this before where I've written something original in the arrangement of some super long intense intro. Underground started like that for me. At first it was everything up until the drop, and I had just mashed it up with another song, but I knew after playing it out a few times I had to turn it into a full blown song. I wanted it to tell the story of Kayzo throughout the years in one song. From the rock to the four on the floor hard stuff mixed in with half time dubstep, I feel like it ended up embodying the rest of the album in a spark note version, which is why I chose for it to be the first song on New Breed.

2. CYBER DETHHH: Just like Underground, Cyber Dethhh started out as a dj tool that I started on the road. I wanted something super gritty and experimental in the sound design. It took me a while but eventually I was able to create sounds that felt like a Cyber Dethhh, and quickly it became one of the most sought out electronic IDs from the album.

3. The Sickness has one of the oldest stories on this album. What started as a completely different idea beginning of covid, became one of the most rewarding musical journeys I've ever had. I wanted to create chaotic melodic emotion with this song. Between the breakdowns and more melodic yet busy drops, once I had the idea down I knew I had to hit up Ghostkid to work on this one. I had become a huge fan of Ghostkid in a really short period of time, and once we got in contact I quickly realized that we would be good friends creatively and just as people. We wrote the song over WhatsApp and zoom sessions with him being in Germany and me in LA. We were fortunate to finally meet at the end of 2021 to film the music video and even got to premier the final version together at EDC Orlando.

5. KAYZO & PHASEONE - Meet You In The Sound ft AARON PAULY: I've wanted to work with Graham (Phaseone) for a long time now. I feel like we were cut from the same cloth with our musical upbringing with our love for rock, metal and heavy bass music. I think everyone expected us to make some gnarly dubstep song filled with crazy sounds, but I wanted something between us to feel like all of our inspirations growing up in one song.

4. WAR One of my favorites off the album production wise. I wanted to go quickly between more musical sound design driven portions to complex bass driven sounds. A covid song like so many off this record, I was fortunate to work with the guys in OST again. We wrote this fairly quickly and to me this song is all about getting back up on your feet after being knocked down. It could be about life, it could be adversity on a sports team. War is that song that gives you that spark to get up and go hard.

6. GATEWAY:

I love bass music with super rhythmic sound design patterns and that's exactly what this song has become. I think this song is one of my absolute favorites to play from start to finish. I had a blast working with Jiqui really. He's been one of my favorite up and coming acts.

7. DEAD AWAKE ft Banshee: I wrote this beat in the middle of quarantine at a point where things felt really frozen in time. At that point there was really no hope of anything coming back yet. I felt pretty stuck with writing stuff to play out at this point with no shows to play. I started to focus some more time on writing beats and things more focused on being vocally driven. The idea of this song is that even though you're awake and life is moving, sometimes you can feel asleep inside and going through the motions. It can feel paralyzing and hard to break out of

9. NEWS FLASH: News Flash has one of my favorite memories tied to it for the creation of this project. I was up in the Hollywood Hills with producer Tim Smith working on some heavy rock ideas when we landed on what is now the instrumental of News Flash. It only took a couple hours and during that process we ended up Facetiming Kamiyada during the session playing him the song over it. An hour later, he was at the studio recording. He had nothing written down and just sat with the song for like 20 minutes while we played it for him on loop. Before I even knew it, the song was tracked basically first pass through. It was the first time I had ever been in a vocal session where the artist's tracking had that much confidence to just go in the first try and track without stopping really.

8. KAYZO x ATLIENS ( NO NAME YET): I've been fortunate to play some shows in the past with ATLIENS and I've always been fond of their interesting sound and how they stand out from the rest of bass music. The song came together fairly quickly. I sent stems to the guys literally three days before EDC Las Vegas, and within those few days we passed stems back and forth and had a song to premier during my set that Saturday at Circuit Grounds. That quickly, this collaboration became one of the most sought after on the album. I think it's a really good representation of our sounds and how they work together in a mix.

10. MOONLIGHT: The instrumental for Moonlight was written the same day as Dead Awake funny enough. It was that period of time where nothing seemed to be moving so I took that frustration out in my writing really. A few months later I had the opportunity to meet up with Caroline (SIIICKBRAIN) at Andrew's (NO LOVE) house for a writing session. I played with a few ideas and when we landed on what is now moonlight, I remember Caroline's face lit up with excitement. She stopped me mid song and told me this was 100% the one and we just got right to tracking in the living room. I think that spur of the moment way of recording in a living room can bring some extra special energy out in the writing recording process. You don't always need a fancy studio and tracking room to get the best ideas out. Sometimes it just takes a few friends, a living room and mic.

13. BOTTLE OF RAIN Back when I lived in the arts district downtown in LA I remember having Poor Stacy over with Paris Shadows as well to listen to some ideas and write some music. I had already written the instrumental of Bottle of Rain for Stacy in hope he would like it. We sat there with it for a while thinking of ideas and to be honest nothing really came out of it at that moment. Months had gone by and the song was still an instrumental until one day Stacey hit me up from Florida with the idea. Days later I had the song done and couldn't stop listening to it in my car. Bottle of Rain for me is the ultimate car song. I love the idea of having it playing on loop as I drive down Ventura Blvd home on a sunny day in LA.

14. NEW BREED: Everything comes full circle and funny enough the album's beginning began in Malibu July 2021 and almost a year later the last writing session for Love Me Hate Me was in Malibu. New Breed as a song is supposed to be a continuation of "old" Kayzo meeting "new" Kayzo. I decided to take a nod at my 2018 song This Time but flip it on its head with a 2022 feeling, and a bunch of you guessed it...guitars.

15. SHT SHOW: What was supposed to be just a DJ tool, ends up being just that really. I wanted to pay respects to those songs in a set that really live in live sets as unreleased IDs but actually release them. I feel like a lot of these dj songs stay in sets forever with no actual release and I just felt like this one specifically blended well with the project and could be. fun palate cleanser from everything before it.

16. Lost My Way: Lost My Way is actually technically the oldest song on the album. I started this one overseas in Asia in quarantine for Ultra Taiwan. I had nothing but time on my hands for two weeks. I had a monitor, some speakers and my laptop and needed something to sort of lift me up during the process. I wanted to make something feel good and kind of uplifting but with my taste. I worked relentlessly on this one , I really had nothing else to do while in quarantine so it became my passion for the time spent inside.

17. CROWN OF THORNS: Blosso has been one of my favorite up and coming acts for so many reasons but I feel like we share the same brain musically sometimes. Just like with Graham (Phaseone) we come from a very similar taste of pre-dance music, so when we had the chance to work I knew we had to incorporate all of those feelings old and new.

18. WASTE AWAY: We've had KALA on Welcome in the past for a release and since that moment I knew I needed to work with him. Something about his voice drew me in and gave me so many nostalgic feelings with my love for pop punk music.

19. SAVE ME: I met Zack back in the beginning of Covid late 2020 early 2021. He was in the studio working with another artist but I had such a fun time hanging. I wanted to work that second on. I wanted Save Me to have a rock meets dnb feel but make it kinda sad. Save Me is about finding your light and getting back to yourself. Finding that center and doing things for you and no one else.

12. LOVE ME HATE ME: The scene is a beautiful Malibu studio right on the edge of the water overlooking June gloomish sky two days before EDC. I was fortunate enough to get in the room with De'Wayne  and Cheney for a day. With this being one of the newest records on the album in terms of writing I still remember the session so well. It was effortless. It was pure fun. Not only was I able to write with one of my favorite new artists in De'Wayne, I was able to also write with the love of my life. I've been waiting for the right time for Cheney and I to write a song. I mean it's been due, and people have been wanting it. This one felt like the one.

11. POSER: When Conner Joey and I got together we sat down for a bit and just chilled and kind of talked shop on music and where everything is right now. Over the course of an hour or so we got on the topic of how saturated everything is and just got on a tangent which led to conner writing lyrics. We spat out a little riff to write to and after a few days of joey and I passing stems back and forth we had Poser. To me this is the song of the summer and something I want people to have on repeat at a party, the backyard or in the car with friends.

20. MAKE U MISS ME:

Make U Miss Me is what I always wanted a closing album song to feel like. I've always enjoyed super rhythmic heavy bass music with a softer melodic feel. Adding SEON to the mix only adds to that feel and helps close the chapter in my music making journey.

THE HISTORY OF KAYZO'S DOGHOUSE

KAYZO created a community known as the Doghouse where fans could gather and support each other and the love for KAYZO's music. In 2015, KAYZO launched the first "Doghouse" Event at the Yost Theatre creating fandemonium and a bright future. [ recap ]

The Doghouse with time grew larger and larger, as did the music and KAYZO's passion and pursuit of defining the "rocktronic" sound he's known for today. In 2018, he merged his passion of rock music and dance productions creating the "Overload" album and feeding into his sophomore album "Unleashed"

KAYZO wanted to encompass his music into his live shows in 2019, launching "Doghouse: Unleashed" which featured live performances from some of his favorite / hand selected bands. It was a huge success.

After thousands of shows and hundreds of thousands of fans, it was time to introduce more than a hybrid of rock and dance music, but also focus on brining attention to new artists in both the dance and rock scene, in hand creating NEW BREED.

KAYZO Shocked San Jose on Night Two of UNLEASHED XL

KAYZO UNLEASHED XL San Jose

KAYZO brought UNLEASHED XL to San Jose, and the second night of the run was pure madness with support from Samplifire, Blanke, and more!

Throughout his career, KAYZO has been a constant standout in dance music as he’s risen through the ranks and delivered incredible records and outstanding performances. While he’s experimented all across the music spectrum, fans will know him best for his signature style that combines metal and bass music, creating an epic hybrid genre that provides unmatched energy.

Late last year, KAYZO announced that he was setting off for the UNLEASHED XL Tour , bringing his most ambitious show yet to cities all across North America. While the original tour brought his biggest headline show ever at The Kia Forum in Inglewood , that was seemingly it for shows in California. Fans voiced their opinions about the lack of shows in the Bay Area, but it became clear that KAYZO had bigger plans in store.

Shortly after the North American tour ended, KAYZO announced that UNLEASHED XL would be coming to San Jose for two nights in September. In addition to bringing the stage setup, he was joined by a flurry of artists like Eliminate ,  Kumarion , RZRKT , Blanke Presents  ÆON : MODE ,  Samplifire , and  Slang Dogs . To top it all off, CRAY also performed live on both nights. Before I knew it, I was headed up to San Jose following a wild night at Rumble In The Jungle in Los Angeles to experience the show for myself.

KAYZO live in San Jose 2023

Early issues getting into the show were a bump in the road, but from there, it was off to the races.

Security moved quickly, but a glitch in the ticketing system prevented me from catching the first three acts of the night. While this hindered the experience of the night, I made the best of the situation and listened from the outside. Once I was inside the venue, I caught the end of Samplifire , and I was pleasantly surprised. He hooked me for every song through the latter half of his set.

After Samplifire, Blanke took the stage for one of his ÆON : MODE performances. Blanke threw in a little bit of everything under the drum and bass umbrella and, surprisingly, even a touch of techno and hard dance! The energy in the venue during this set was amazing as everyone was lost in the music and vibing to every single song.

After getting a variety of music throughout the night, it was finally time for the main event with KAYZO!

KAYZO has been one of my favorite artists for many years, from his days on Panda Funk and HARD with STYLE to his current ventures with Welcome Records . Oddly enough, I’ve never been able to properly see him live. I’ve had a few opportunities at festivals, but many factors have stopped me, like set clashes, friends wanting to go home, and a myriad of other reasons. Luckily, nothing stopped me this time, and I finally got to see a full KAYZO performance for the first time ever.

KAYZO UNLEASHED XL San Jose day 1

KAYZO put on an excellent performance and took fans on a journey across the music spectrum.

Throughout the performance, KAYZO did everything from bringing out a live band and throwing in tracks that ranged from bass and techno to hard dance and uptempo! One important thing to note is the story he told with his set. He started off with really high energy, brought it to an excellent middle ground in between, and ended with throwbacks that fans have come to know and love over the years.

This performance had me engaged the entire time, but my favorite parts came when he played tunes from hard dance from artists like SOREN and KAMI . Not only because I experienced personal enjoyment, but I appreciate the fact that KAYZO has consistently exposed his crowds to hard dance music over the years. As an advocate for the genre, it filled me with joy to see the potential that hard dance has for the American crowd.

Hard dance aside, this ended up being one of my favorite shows I’ve been to this year. It was the first time I properly saw KAYZO live, and I discovered multiple artists that were outside of my usual listening space. I do wish I was able to catch more of the openers, but I left the venue with my expectations blown away and ready for more of these performers in the future. Now that UNLEASHED XL is over for the foreseeable future make sure to stay tuned to see what else KAYZO has in store for his doghouse.
