The Korn Ferry Tour Championship will determine who gets the final PGA Tour cards for the season ahead, and there are a clutch of European Tour regulars who look set to make the switch. Thomas Detry, Matti Schmid and Hurly Long all currently sit inside the top 25 in KFT Finals points, all of whom will secure membership, and both Jason Scrivener and Min Woo Lee know they can yet salvage things with a big week at Victoria National.

This fearsome course has seemingly been softened up a little since the final event of the season came here in 2019. Once home of the United Leasing Championship, where winning scores ranged from six- to 12-under, Tom Fazio's layout has been easier to navigate despite this pressure-cooker environment, though it still threatens to ruin scorecards from the first tee to the last. If you haven't already, read Will Knights' piece on why it's the right place to find out who has what it takes.

Strong driving has certainly been key and we see that not only in champions but in those to have run them close. Last year, Joseph Bramlett got the better of Trey Mullinax, two of the most powerful players in the field, while in 2019 Tom Lewis landed for his Korn Ferry Tour debut and blew away the field. Between the two, the shorter but accurate and no less talented Brandon Wu secured his first victory of note, and like Bramlett he went on to establish himself as a well-above-average driver during what was his rookie PGA Tour season.

DELETE CAPTION

As a result, last week's event should prove a good guide, and we're in the same part of the US for good measure. Min Woo Lee therefore made the shortlist again but surely his abject display merited a bigger move in the market than we've seen, and I also felt we might get a little more juice in the price of Davis Thompson, arguably the best driver on the circuit and certainly a big talent whose future is bright.

Back to the drawing board and I wonder if JUSTIN SUH might do as his former college sparring partner Wu did, and deservedly earn his breakthrough to wave goodbye to this level in the best possible fashion.

  • CLICK HERE to back Suh with Sky Bet

Suh has done everything but win this year. He leads the all-around ranking, has nine top-10s and has missed just one cut since the beginning of February, during which time he's been on a tear. The fact he leads the circuit in final-round scoring makes it all the more baffling as to how he's not quite managed to convert one of several chances.

Justin Suh had a stellar season on the Korn Ferry Tour to earn his first PGA Tour card for next year. — Golf Digest (@GolfDigest) August 25, 2022

The truth is he's not quite been close enough and that was the case again last week, when a final-round 66 added another of those top-10s despite the fact he'd only ever been on the periphery. That would be the only real criticism but it's a harsh one and, having contended on the PGA Tour, there's absolutely no doubt he has what it takes to justify a position towards the top of the market.

Sixth in total driving and seventh in greens hit, we don't need strokes-gained data to recognise that he's one of the best ball-strikers on the circuit and it's possible he has the best set of circumstances possible: card wrapped up, but still with the determination to get that trophy which would set him up so well for his first proper crack at the PGA Tour.

A top-class amateur, Suh has come a long way as a professional since finishing down the field here last year, and a long, difficult course ought to again help separate players of his calibre. For my money this event has been won by three of the most capable players in their respective fields since it moved to Victoria National, a relentless test of ball-striking, and Suh has what it takes to cap a breakthrough year.

Schmid's driving, his form right now and his undoubted potential make for an appealing combination, and he reminds me a little of Lewis: long off the tee and a fabulously streaky scorer who can overcome some problems around the greens simply by not missing many of them.

He's the last man off the list but I'll take VINCENT NORRMAN to be the pick of the European challengers, again in the hope that he might get away with the fact his short-game leaves plenty of room for improvement.

  • CLICK HERE to back Norrman with Sky Bet

One of the best drivers and I daresay biggest talents on the Korn Ferry Tour circuit, Norrman ranks first in ball-striking and second in greens hit. We saw when he played on the DP World Tour last summer how long he is so again there are parallels with last year's one-two as well as Lewis.

Last week's narrow missed cut wouldn't be too much of a concern and he'd been ticking over nicely without producing his absolute best in the preceding weeks. It's reasonable, based on the player and the basic stats we have, to suggest that he's probably just been undone by the putter again and that's the chance we'll have to take.

However, at 100/1 there's plenty of juice in the price about a player as likely as anyone to come here, lead the field in total driving and greens hit, and overpower a course which has definitely lost some of its teeth. That he's Swedish is also worth a mention after David Lingmerth's win, and it's possible Lingmerth has helped show him the ropes this year.

Regardless, he's the sort of big-hitting, green-finding talent who fits the bill and with his card secure, perhaps he can freewheel on the greens at last.

🏆 The moment David Lingmerth sealed victory at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship... 🙌 ...and followers of @BenColeyGolf could toast another big winner – this time at odds of 200/1! ✍️ Be sure to check out this week's golf previews. https://t.co/8VHRtIecpw — Sporting Life 🎯🔴🎾⛳️🥊🏏🏉 🏈 (@SportingLifeFC) August 28, 2022

Back towards the front of the market and Detry, Nick Hardy and Will Gordon are all respected given their respective strengths, but I prefer the claims of CARL YUAN .

  • CLICK HERE to back Yuan with Sky Bet

The Chinese youngster has star quality and currently sits second in the overall points list, which is separate to the one referred to earlier. It means he's another to have secured his card but there's still plenty to play for, as the leader at the end of this event will get a place in The PLAYERS Championship and the US Open, plus full status and the right to pick and choose where they play.

That's a big carrot to dangle and Yuan looks a particularly strong candidate, for all that he has one of the more volatile profiles you'll see. This season he has a win, three seconds, a third, a fifth, a seventh, and nine missed cuts to go with them. It's fair to say he's been something of a feast-or-famine player.

Still, that often makes for a spot of value and he looks exactly that at 40/1, having played well for 14th last week, and for three of the four rounds of the Pinnacle Bank Championship earlier in August when a Friday 73 perhaps cost him a second win.

He's long off the tee and while his form here looks modest, 36th place in 2020 was a good effort at a time when he was nowhere near the player he is today. And, while he does make stacks of birdies, the fact his victory came in one of the tougher events where he beat another big-hitter for the Louisiana Open title suggests that he can get to grips with Victoria National this time.

I'll finish off with three outsiders who all have the potential to threaten, starting with the one most likely to blow out, BRANDON MATTHEWS .

  • CLICK HERE to back Matthews with Sky Bet

The longest driver on the circuit and in the Wilco Nienaber mould, volatility is part of the deal and we saw it last week, when he shot 76 on day one before a second-round 64 saw him make it through to the weekend in dramatic style.

Matthews struggled a bit over the weekend but he was without his regular caddie, who returns this week, and 18th place in the first event in Boise is a reminder that he's probably not too far away from the game which took him to the Astara Golf Championship title back in February.

On his way to the PGA Tour for the first time and with his wedding coming up next month, Matthews must be in a fabulous place and that rally last Friday to make the cut is the sort of achievement which often sticks with a player.

Brandon Matthews was visibly upset when someone yelled during a missed putt, knocking him out of contention for a spot in The Open. When he found out the fan has Down syndrome and lost control of his emotions, Matthews only cared about one thing — making sure he was OK 👏 pic.twitter.com/FHbyiUBbvP — SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) November 20, 2019

Hailing from Pennsylvania it's to his benefit that these final couple of events have been in Ohio and now Indiana, and he has form here too. Back in 2018, he finished 11th in the United Leasing, the only time all year he entered the final round inside the top 10 and very much one of his better efforts in a quiet campaign.

Since improved, now able to harness his awesome power, it wouldn't surprise me were he to improve upon that.

BYEONG HUN AN is another class act with yards in the locker and bet365's 125/1 looks very generous, with the general 80/1 a price I was happy with.

  • CLICK HERE to back An with Sky Bet

A former winner of the BMW PGA Championship who reached as high as 24th in the world, we know all about his class and it's good to see him heading back to the PGA Tour next season.

Two top-fives in the Honda Classic offer some comparable form to this (Wyndham Clark has almost won both events, too) and he's been runner-up in a high-class Memorial Tournament, where good drivers always dominate, so as has always been the case his latest crack at the top level will hinge on his short-game.

We'll see how far it can take him here, too, but I like the fact he was 20th last year, ranking eighth in ball-striking on his first visit to the course. An arrived at Victoria National completely out of form, having missed the cut in his previous two starts – on the same two courses this year he's finished 18th and 22nd.

Third in total driving last week and one of the best ball-strikers in this event last year, it's worth taking a chance that he can find something on the greens and double up for the year, his first win having come on another course made for the bombers.

Finally, veteran SEAN O'HAIR has attracted some support and rightly so.

  • CLICK HERE to back O'Hair with Sky Bet

He withdrew after an opening 80 here last year but the injury-plagued Texan can always be excused such a performance, and it's a course which should suit. He's won close to here in the past and at his best always wanted a good test of ball-striking.

A second-round 64 last week was really important as it saw him make the cut and ultimately finish 14th, which means he heads into the final event in the final spot in the standings, his status for 2023 entirely contingent on how he plays this week.

Before that he'd shot 68-70 to miss the cut on the number in Boise, it's not long since he was eighth behind Mullinax and alongside Schmid in the Barbasol, and between those two he again missed the cut by a single shot in the 3M Open. In other words, I think he's playing very nicely.

Having turned 40 a month ago, it might feel like it's now or never for a player who might've been world-class granted better luck. If he can get off to a better start this week, watch for him sticking around and showing how valuable experience can be when it comes to the crunch.

Predictions to Win Korn Ferry Tour Championship

The 2023 Korn Ferry Tour Championship, presented by United Leasing, is happening this week at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Indiana.

The field of 75 Korn Ferry Tour players will battle it out, hoping to find themselves inside the top 30 at the conclusion of the four-day event. Those players sitting inside the top 30 will earn their PGA Tour playing privileges for next season .

Last year, Justin Suh shot a four-day score of 267 (21-under par) en route to a two-stroke victory over runner-up Austin Eckroat. The win was Suh’s first and only KFT victory but catapulted him to the PGA Tour, where he finished 81st on the FedEx Cup points list.

Suh, a standout golfer at the University of Southern Cal, finished the season ranked no. 1 in the season-long points race, earning him full status for the 2022-23 PGA Tour.

Prior to the 2023 season, the KFT Championship featured the top 75 players from the KFT money list, along with players ranked 126-200 on the PGA Tour’s money list. That changed this year with the introduction of the PGA Tour Fall golf events.

Let’s get into our Korn Ferry Tour Championship predictions below.

Victoria National Golf Club

The private 18-hole golf course sits just seven miles outside the city of Evansville, Indiana. The Tom Fazio-designed layout was established in 1998 and has hosted the KFT Championship since 2019. Over the last four years, the average winning score of the tournament has been around 20-under par.

The layout of the golf course is carved out of abandoned coal mines and is annually rated one of the top 100 courses in the United States . When making your Korn Ferry Tour picks, keep in mind that water is a prevalent hazard on the property, with over 500 million gallons throughout the layout.

The tees, fairways, and greens are of Bent grass, and the par-72 course stretches over 7,200 yards from the furthest of six tee boxes.

Korn Ferry Tour Championship Field

The cream has risen to the top, and of the 75 players fighting for the $1,500,000 dollar purse, 59 are battling it out for the remaining 14 PGA Tour cards . The who’s who of this season’s KFT will be in action for the Tour’s season finale, led by Ben Kohles. Kohles (1,795.302 points) is no. 1 on the points list, 246.44 points clear of Chan Kim (1,548.862) in second.

The most drama will come from those players ranked just inside or just outside the top 30 . Players like Chase Seiffert (no. 28), Shad Tuten (no. 29), Jackson Suber (no. 30), Roger Sloan (no. 31), Wilson Furr (no. 32), Trace Crowe (no. 33), and Josh Teater (no. 34) are fighting over four days for a chance to alter their careers.

The last five players in the tournament include Fabian Gomez (no. 71), Brandon Harkins (no. 72), John Augenstein (no. 73), Patrick Welch (no. 74), and Brian Campbell (no. 75).

Korn Ferry Tour Championship Predictions

With the Korn Ferry Tour odds set to come out later this week, it is time to dive into our Korn Ferry Tour Championship predictions with our three favorites to win the event.

Adrien Dumont de Chassart

Dumont de Chassart wrapped up a stellar collegiate career at the University of Illinois and immediately broke through on the KFT by winning his first professional event.

The Belgian is our favorite Korn Ferry Tour prediction this week , even with missing his last two cuts, but six-straight finishes inside the top 10 to begin his KFT career has him primed for the PGA Tour next year.

Another former USC star, Hoey, is looking to join Suh as a KFT Championship winner. He’s already locked up his Tour card for next season, but the 28-year-old is aiming to capture his second KFT victory of the season.

Sitting 11th on the points list, Knapp has played well enough this year to earn status on the PGA Tour next season . The 29-year-old hasn’t won yet this year but finished inside the top 10 in five of his last nine starts; his golf stats this season have him knocking on the door.

Korn Ferry Tour Player Shoots 13-under 58 in Texas

Frankie Capan III fired the third sub-60 score of the season on the Korn Ferry Tour.

  • Author: John Schwarb

There’s a new member of the sub-60 club in pro golf, on a tour that has seen a couple already this season.

Frankie Capan III shot a 13-under 58 on Thursday at the Texas Rangers Golf Club in the first round of the Veritex Bank Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour. He made four birdies in a row from the 2nd through 5th holes, then hung red numbers on eight straight holes from the 9th through 16th. In all he had 11 birdies and one eagle.

Capan parred his final two holes including the par-5 18th.

The Korn Ferry Tour had two sub-60 scores earlier this year at the Astara Golf Championship, as Cristobal Del Solar shot 57 and Aldrich Potgieter shot 59 on a par-70, 6,254-yard course at elevation in Colombia. Capan shot his 58 on a par-71, 7,010-yard course.

There has been one 58 shot on the PGA Tour, by Jim Furyk at the 2016 Travelers Championship.

Capan, 24, turned pro two years ago and attended Florida Gulf Coast University. The Minnesota native 298th in the OWGR with a high finish of third in 30 career KFT starts.

Capan led by three in the morning wave. Trent Phillips shot 61 and trailed by three.

15-year-old Miles Russell makes history with T20 finish at Korn Ferry Tour event, earns another start

Miles russell finished at 14-under in the lecom suncoast classic in florida.

At 15 years old, Miles Russell is wrapping up his freshman year of high school this spring.

On Sunday, after a historic weekend at Lakewood National Golf Club, Russell earned another start on the Korn Ferry Tour.

"It was an awesome week. It was a blast." See you at the Veritx Bank Championship. 😏 pic.twitter.com/7UYxlM0FtO — Korn Ferry Tour (@KornFerryTour) April 21, 2024

Russell posted a 5-under 66 on Sunday, and made an incredible seven birdies in a 10-hole stretch, to close out the LECOM Suncoast Classic. That brought him to 14-under on the week and gave him a T20 finish at the event, which made him the youngest player since they started keeping records in 1983 to complete a top-25 finish on either the PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour.

“It was an awesome week. It was a blast,” Russell said, via the PGA Tour . "Especially for my first one, you may get a couple weird looks, like, 'Who's the little kid on the range?' But, you know, everybody was so nice and so helpful with everything.
"I just try to kind of go with flow and take it as it comes to me, and I'm trying to just stay cool. I was able to hit some good shots in the right moments."

Russell, who is the reigning American Junior Golf Association’s Player of the Year, was competing on a sponsor’s exemption. He won the Junior PGA Championship by seven shots last year, and he became the youngest person to ever win the Junior Players Championship. The only other male player to win the AJGA’s Player of the Year award at 15 years old was Tiger Woods.

Russell posted a 66 on Friday, too, which made him the youngest player to ever make the cut at 15 years, 5 months and 17 days of age. Gipper Finau, the younger brother of PGA Tour golfer Tony Finau, held the previous Korn Ferry Tour mark at 16 years old. China ’s Guan Tianlang made the cut at the Masters in 2013 when he was 14. That’s the record for a PGA Tour event.

"When I play well, I think I can compete with some of the better pros, but this week I played well and I think it kind of showed it a little bit," Russell said. "But good play is always good, and definitely confidence-boosting to finish where we're going to finish today."

While Russell is still competing as an amateur, and he won’t get any money or Korn Ferry Tour points, his finish earned him a spot in next week’s Veritex Bank Championship in Texas. He's not old enough to join the Korn Ferry Tour full time yet, but he can keep earning entries week by week. Anyone who finishes in the top-25 automatically earns entry into the following week's event.

Russell also earned a sponsor exemption on Monday to compete in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on the PGA Tour this fall. The event, which is part of the Tour's new FedExCup Fall slate, is set for November at Port Royal Golf Course in Bermuda.

Tim Widing beat Steven Fisk and Patrick Cover in a playoff Sunday to win the LECOM Suncoast Classic. The trio got to 20-under on the week, six shots better than Russell.

After scintillating korn ferry tour start, 15-year-old miles russell planning out a busy summer, share this article.

Miles Russell is still an amateur golfer and intends to remain so for the foreseeable future.

Russell, the 15-year-old Jacksonville Beach native who became the youngest player in history to finish among the top 20 in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event last week at the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Open, said he will keep to his junior and amateur schedule this summer, which will be capped by defending his title in the Junior Players Championship on Labor Day weekend at the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

“That’s the plan,” he said Wednesday during a teleconference from the Veritex Bank Championship near Dallas, a tournament he’s playing thanks to his tie for 20th last week at Lakewood National. The Korn Ferry Tour gives players who finish among the top 25 a spot in the next event on the schedule. “I’m planning to play to play the rest of the summer like I planned to … a couple of junior, a couple of am events, see how it goes.”

Regardless of how Russell plays this week or any additional pro events, Russell said he’s not entertaining any thoughts of turning pro. His schedule includes events such as the Junior Players, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Junior, the Western Amateur, the North and South Amateur and a U.S. Open sectional qualifier, among other junior or amateur tournaments.

“It’s going to be a busy summer,” he said.

Russell also has a fall date on the PGA Tour: the Butterfield Bermuda Championship Nov. 14-17. Russell received an invitation to the FedEx Cup Fall tournament that will be reserved for the American Junior Golf Association Player of the Year.

Miles Russell’s ‘wild ride’

Russell will tee off at 3:43 p.m. on Thursday off No. 1 at the Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington, Texas, and at 10:08 a.m. on Friday from the 10th tee. His playing partners are Callum McNeill of Scotland (30 years old) and David Bradshaw (40).

Russell termed his last week “a wild ride,” and it’s no wonder. He first became the youngest player to ever make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour (and the third-youngest to make a cut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned tournament), then had weekend rounds of 70-66 to climb 28 spots on the leaderboard.

Russell said he’s taking great satisfaction from earning his way into the Veritex Championship after playing in the LECOM Open on a sponsor invitation.

“Earning something feels better than getting an exemption,” he said. “You know what you practiced for and what you live for and that’s what you did.”

He admitted that Sunday and Monday were exhausting days. Once he and his family knew he would finish among the top 25 while driving back to Jacksonville Beach, there were travel arrangements to be made and a new set of golf clothes to pack.

“All the emotion and excitement and adrenaline, that travel from Sunday night to Monday until I got here … it was a long, long day.”

Russell said his goals this week are the same

Russell said he likes the course and said the goal this week would be the same as last week.

“Just try to put … two good rounds together and see where that puts us compared to the cut,” he said. “If we make the cut, just try to have two more good rounds and see where that puts us.”

He said he’s been surprised by the attention for his play at Lakewood National, which comes on the heels of a string of junior golf accomplishments, such as winning the Junior Players, the Junior PGA and being named the AJGA Player of the Year, along with making the Junior Ryder Cup team and the first USGA Junior National team.

“If I had my choice I would not have any of it [the attention],” he said. “But it’s kind of what happens when you play well so you kind of got to get used to it every once in a while. Everybody’s been nice and easy to work with and hopefully it stays that way.”

Russell said being humble is in his nature.

“I think that’s kind of my personality,” he said. “I don’t like being showy with things, kind of like walking around a certain way. I like to just kind of go about my business and do my thing.”

He said he was surprised when there were autograph seekers following his final round on Sunday — admitting he needs to improve his handwriting — and said it was “really cool,” to get a shoutout on X from World Golf Hall of Fame member and fellow left-handed golfer Phil Mickelson.

“I’ve looked up to him,” he said. “Going to The Players, I always watched him.”

Russell praises caddie/teacher’s influence

Russell said his support team of parents Joe and Kelli and caddie Ramon Bescansa have helped him concentrate on golf as best he can, given sudden media requests and fan attention.

He said Bescansa, his swing instructor since he was 7 years old, is a calming influence as a caddie.

“He’s the nicest, most positive guy you’ll ever meet,” he said. “The vibes he puts off … when you’re on the golf course that’s all you need. He can flip the mood and get you going [and] his knowledge of golf is on a different level.”

Russell also predicted he won’t be the last 15-year-old to make such a splash.

“Everybody has access to a ton of stuff … launch monitors, some of the best coaches … the equipment companies are starting to help younger kids out with gloves, balls … all the stuff … having the right clubs to fit into,” he said. “Everybody’s just so talented. There’s so many ways to be good and everybody’s finding every little detail to be good at it, or try to be the best.”
