1. cut down on costs.

If you decide to compare the price of hiring or buying a travel trailer to booking a hotel for every of your trip, you’d see that having a trailer is more cost-effective.

You would not need to hire a room or pay for meals because you have everything to live a normal life all engineered into the design of a travel trailer.

Also, they are affordable to acquire compared to the larger bunkhouse trailers designed for the family.

2. Easy to tow

Travel trailers for couples are usually small and lightweight; after all, you’d want to only have one that can sleep just two persons. For a lightweight trailer under 5,000 lbs, any car can effortlessly tow it.

Small trailers for couples are also easy to maneuver and navigate through the woods and rough terrain, no matter your location or destination.

3. Provide more opportunities to bond

In a travel trailer, there is almost no room for privacy. So you tend to do everything together. This will help you bond, know yourselves more and explore each other because you would always be together.

There are different models of r-pod trailers, but we choose to pick this because it meets our criteria for picking a couple’s travel trailer. We love the fact that it is lightweight, weighing just 2950 lb.

The bathroom is well equipped with a sink, a WC, and a dry bath. Open concept design provides tons of natural lighting and crosses ventilation .

There are no chances to leave any belonging behind because this camper comes with sufficient interior and exterior storage spaces.

The bed is one of the most favorite spaces in a camper. R-pod has got it right here by installing a 60 X 74 queen bed.

Some of the interior features include a dinette, kitchen with sink and cooktop, TV, refrigerator, etc. while these should be enough to make your trip great, you also have options to customize or upgrade to meet your taste.

If you are looking for sturdiness and stamina, the Winnebago has got it all. This is credited to its double wheels. It’s also one of the best travel trailers under 30 feet for couples available in the market today.

Depending on your preference regarding space, Winnebago has a range of models of different sizes. No matter what you pick, you would still have a lightweight camper.

Both the interior and exterior have been equipped to provide all the fun. From the comfortable dining set, TV, and fridge in the interior, to the large awning outside the unit, you would not miss a moment of fun.

What we love is the conservation of space. The dinette and sofa would both convert to a large bed and queen’s bed respectively, giving room to sleep 4 persons.

  • Outdoor entertainment for fun activities
  • Screened-in back ramp
  • Refrigerators ready
  • LED television set for your endless entertainment
  • 12 inches awning to provide outdoor shade
  • Sleeps more persons than a usual couple’s size trailer

This is one of the best luxury travel trailers for couples out there. After much scrutinizing, this travel trailer made it to our list and you would find out why.

First, the reason is that we wanted to include a travel trailer with the capacity to haul. We understand that some couples would love to explore their site with an ATV or bring along more heavy camping gear. Despite being small and lightweight, this trailer would haul 3 ATVs.

Surprising right? well, thanks to its anti-rust aluminum frame that guarantees durability and strength. Moreover, it only weighs 2,300 pounds.

There are about 7 series of this model with different sizes capable of sleeping between 4 – 7 persons.

Quicksilver VRV XTR 614 comes with a large bed and a convertible sofa bed. Other features include a dry bath, outdoor entertainment, a screened-in back ramp, refrigerators, and TV.

Again, you can always upgrade your trailer anytime with every luxury you found appealing.

  • Large 12’ awning to provide outdoor shade
  • Numerous storage spaces both interior and exterior
  • Can serve as a toy hauler for ATVs
  • Although lightweight, it may seem too bulky

4. Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E19FBS

Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E19FBS travel trailer

  • 17-floor plans
  • Recessed ceiling LED 12-volt interior lighting
  • Driftwood interior
  • Power awning with adjustable rain dump and LED lighting
  • Fully aluminum frame (Floor, roof, and sidewall)
  • Vinyl/rubber composite roofing membrane
  • Interior Height: Unknown
  • Exterior Length: 20 Feet
  • Exterior Height: 9 Feet, 9 Inches
  • Wet Weight: 4,413 Pounds
  • Unloaded Vehicle Weight: 3,075 Pounds

This may not be the best as regards material selection, but there are a lot of advantages that make this camper stand out. We wanted to recommend a product for first-time RV buyers. This is one of the most affordable for anyone looking to own their first RV cheaply .

The only major con we found with this trailer is that the quality control isn’t as good as some other brands. The exterior materials are of lower quality or thinner than some of their counterparts. Well, this is nothing too much to be worried about because it is only based on the comparison.

The storage is moderate, and not too accommodating, but for couples, it should just be sufficient to pack all the needed gear.

There is a comfortable 60″ X 80″ queen bed, a sofa, a functional kitchen with a heat extractor, and a functional bathroom. It also comes with electrical appliances such as a refrigerator and TV set.

Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E19FBS only sleeps two persons and weighs less than 3000 lbs.

  • It is affordable
  • Lightweight and easy to haul
  • Awning for outdoor shade
  • Not the best material selection
  • Less storage space
  • Only sleeps 2 persons

5. Cricket by Taxa Outdoors (Best Lightweight Travel Trailers For Couples)

Cricket by Taxa Outdoors

  • Powder-Coated Steel Chassis
  • Sink with Hinged Lid
  • 2,000 lb Tongue Jack
  • High-Pressure Laminate Countertop
  • Torsion Axle Suspension with Electric Brakes
  • 16 gallon Grey Water Tank
  • 15″ Alloy Wheel with All-Terrain Tires (5-year manufacturer warranty)
  • Roof Tracks for Rack Options
  • 15″ Steel Spare Wheel with All-Terrain Tire
  • 12V Accessory Outlet (Exterior)
  • Powder-Coated Steel Gravel Guards
  • Battery Compartment (Fits 2 Group 24 or Group 27 Batteries. Batteries not included)
  • 12V Accessory Outlets (Interior)
  • Quad Stabilizer Jacks
  • HDPE Countertop Behind Sink & Stove
  • Laser Cut Aluminum Skeleton

So we thought to include a camper with lots of openings, especially for couples who would love hitting the road every summer. Luckily, we found one that meets our criteria.

Cricket is not your usual camper; it is one of a kind and loaded with all features that will give you a romantic memory.

This tiny guy manages to include a full bed that can sleep two adults and 2 children and a kitchen.

Note that this is more like a tent, so you do not get to have all the features of a regular travel trailer. Haven said that – the only challenge is that it comes with a portable toilet and an outdoor shower rather than a functional convenience.

Cricket is extremely lightweight, weighing just 1,700 lbs.

  • There is a 2-year structural warranty
  • Can accommodate a small family of 4
  • Extremely lightweight and easy to haul
  • Roof pops up for improved ventilation
  • No functional toilet or bathroom indoors

Checklist For Buying A Travel Trailer For Couples

RVs For Two Couples

If you still want to check out other options apart from the ones we have recommended here, we will advise that you take some of the following factors into consideration to help you buy right

1. The capacity of the trailer

We understand that you just want a travel trailer for you and your partner. However, you may want to make some futuristic considerations.

Rather than having to upgrade the unit or buy another camper when the children start coming into the game, you may want to consider buying a camper that will sleep more people.

At least, a camper that can conveniently sleep 4 persons would be a good one to start with.

2. The storage capacity

Some couples overlook this feature. We find it to be important because the more storage capacity, the more survival gears, and items you can bring with you for every journey. Make this criterion a priority if you would be camping for a longer period often.

Whether interior storage or exterior storage, as long as it can take everything you would need, it is just fine.

3. The weight of the trailer

If you do not want to bother about changing your car to a bigger one that can tow your camper , then you’d want to buy one that your present fleet can effortlessly tow.

Luckily, smaller campers recommend for couples are lightweight with the heaviest still under 3,000 lbs.

Go with any of our recommendations and you would not need to worry about this. Not forgetting to mention that there are also more advantages to going for a lightweight travel trailer which we already highlighted in a section of this article above.

4. How much space do you want?

Even though most travel trailers for couples are small and compact, some options are lightweight yet spacious. Depending on your preference, you can go for one that will give you and your partner enough floor space for fun activities.

No doubt, a spacious trailer would be more comfortable. You don’t always have to sacrifice portability for space. Small trailers can too be spacious if they have included a convertible bed and sofa that can go out of the way when transformed.

5. Consider four-season RVs

Not many people go on road trips or camps during winter . But if you and your partner are looking to explore all 4 weather, you may have to narrow your selection based on this factor.

All campers aren’t adapted for winter living . You would have to find one that offers durable insulation and a propane furnace that measures up with space. We have reviewed some of the best options; you may want to check them out and also check out the criteria for picking one.

Conclusion | Best RV For Two Couples

Those are the best travel trailers for couples to hit the road anytime. In as much as we have tried to list the best we research, the final decision is still dependent on you.

Since this camper would be for you both, it is always better to have both of you decide on what to go for. Each partner can write down what features he/she would love to see and combine both to find which trailer offers the most of them.

We wish you good luck in picking the best for you. Since it’s going to be just the two of you, don’t forget to take with you everything you will need to have an engaging trip while you seek to strengthen your relationship.

4 Best Travel Trailers for Couples in 2022

Travel trailer at sunset

Many couples long for the open road, but too many of them let that dream remain a dream.

For those of you looking to purchase your first trailer or upgrade your current trailer, here are several choices that I consider to be the best travel trailers for couples.

2021 Best Travel Trailers for Couples

1. 2021 Grand Design Imagine 2250RK 2. Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E19FBS 3. Coachmen – Freedom Express 259FKDS 4. 2021 Keystone Cougar 22RBS

2021 Grand Design Imagine 2250RK

2020 Grand Design Imagine 2250RK

Grand Design is well-known for its 285-point pre-delivery inspections. Their campers are often better designed and overall more reliable than much of their competition. The 2250RK is one model from their lineup which I believe most couples will appreciate.

What doesn’t work for one situation can work perfectly for another. This layout is a good example of this truth. The bathroom separates the bedroom from the rest of the camper. If the 2250RK housed more than three people, it would be a source of constant frustration. Owned by a couple, it becomes a nice buffer for those early bird/night owl combinations. There are three living separate living spaces within this unit. Let’s go over each of them.

Living Area

It’s the classic combination in a not so classic configuration. The dinette and the kitchen are usually placed on opposing walls with a small pathway between them. In the 2250RK, they place the kitchen at the rear of the camper which gives it a large area for its counter-tops, three-burner stove, oven, microwave, and a plethora of storage cabinets. One side of the nearby wall space is occupied by two theater seats which oppose a fireplace, counter, and a telescoping 40″ TV. The theater seats are fully featured and double as a couch. They come with cup-holding armrests and pop-out leg rests. The theater seats heat, they massage, and they are super comfortable. If you want to convert it to the couch, simply lift the center armrests and its done.

No Dining Table

It isn’t something that you see too often, and I have mixed feelings about it. It is annoying to not have a table to place your plates and random belongings, but it opens up a lot of space. It pairs with the unique layout to create an almost residential size of space where you can comfortably stretch. After a little adjusting, I don’t think most people will miss the table. There are nearby alternative surfaces, kitchen counters, and an end cabinet, so I think what you gain is worth the cost of what you lose.

This unit comes with a single slide that houses the refrigerator, the pantry, and the fireplace. It is such a great use of the space, and you should definitely check it out by using the Grand Design website’s 3d viewer. It’ll make you a fan.

The Bathroom

The Grand Designers created a nice bathroom. The size of the room and placement of the fixtures leaves plenty of space. You won’t feel cramped on the toilet and the shower is tall enough to fit 99% of you.

The Bedroom

The bedroom is basic, but each component looks clean and feels like quality. The storage is what you might expect. His and hers hanging closets rest at opposing sides of the queen bed (60″ x 80″). Storage sits above the bed, and an over-sized bin works as the bed’s support. There isn’t a TV, but it is prepped for both TV and cable. If you want to do some reading, there are reading lights.

Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E19FBS

Flagstaff E-Pro Trailer

The E19FBS isn’t right for everybody. In fact, in most cases, I would recommend another unit because the Forest River targets a specific audience. These units are best for first-time RV buyers that want to enter the lifestyle but cannot afford the higher-tier units. The quality control isn’t as good as some other brands, and the materials are often, but not always, lower quality or thinner than some of their counterparts. However it still makes our list as one of the best travel trailers for couples.

I love the design. Yes, it is short, so this is a game of sacrifices. It has an open floor plan, so it successfully keeps the unit from feeling claustrophobic even though it is only 20′ long.

Minimal would be a good way to describe it. You do have several spots for storage, but none of it will add up to a comfortable full-time living level of storage. Keep that in mind if you want a seasonal unit rather than a weekend-camper.

The Bed

If the front of the unit is considered north, the queen bed is to that north. They size it at 60″ X 80″, so it is a residential queen rather than the commonly short-changed RV version. You do have some storage both above and below. The storage above the bed is netted and the lower storage is smaller than most under-bed storage compartments.

The Kitchen

To the east, you will find the kitchen. There isn’t much counter-top space if everything is uncovered and in use. However, if the stove’s connected glass cover is closed, the added surface makes the space manageable.

The oven is great! I’ve seen a lot of larger RVs that have ovens that can’t fit much more than a tray of muffins. You have a bit more space with this camper’s oven.

It’s plastic; the whole thing: toilet, shower, shower curtain, and the sink. It’s also a bit on the small side, so there will not be a lot of room to stretch out. If the shower curtain was glass, your knees would probably uncomfortably pressed up against it. However, all of that is expected at this price point, so don’t hate on them too much. The silver lining is that this is a full bath unit which isn’t a given for a unit this size.

Coachmen – Freedom Express 259FKDS

lightweight travel trailers for couples

A new year brings new models, and in the case of the Freedom Express line, a new floor plan. The 259FKDS is a fresh take on one of the classic front-kitchen designs. With this fresh take, the 259FKDS brings several needed improvements that have frustrated many otherwise enjoyable weekends. This model comes from Coachmen’s ultra-lite luxury line of travel trailers. The lightweight design, great features, and the comparatively low price point create a fantastic entry point for a wide range of prospective buyers.

Easy To Haul

The combination of a short, lightweight trailer that sits on wide-stance axles makes this a super easy to haul. The wider stance, in a way, gives the driver training wheels by making the trailer pull like a smaller unit. This unit doesn’t come with a backup camera, but it is prepped for it, so that should be easy enough to upgrade.

Amazing Storage

I feel like a broken record by saying this again, but it has great storage. Correction, it has incredible storage. Not only is there storage in every nook and cranny of this camper, but there is a full-through exterior compartment. You don’t normally get one of those on front kitchen designs. That is one of the improvements to this type of floorplan that I was talking about earlier.

Outdoor Kitchen

Another blueprint improvement is the existence of an outdoor kitchen. It’s all there: a cabinet, a large sink with a high-rise faucet, and a medium-sized mini-fridge. Everybody loves a bit of outdoor grilling, and Coleman conveniently included one of their high-quality grills too. There is also a small pocket of space for some storage. Haylett RV suggested placing a small container of utensils in that spot which is a fantastic suggestion.

Indoor Kitchen

It’s fully equipped and nearly as convenient as a residential kitchen. It has great storage and amazing pantry space. The counters are large and the stainless steel double-basin sink has a high-rise faucet. You have the typical cooking appliances: oven, microwave, and three-burner stove.

Room to Stretch

Whether you are tall or wide, this space should work for you. Unless the slides are closed, you should be very comfortable in all of its spaces. The tall 6’9″ ceiling, spacious floor plan, and comfortable seating will welcome almost any size or shape.

I said spacious, and I meant it. The porcelain foot-flush toilet isn’t cramped and the shower with the classy glass door takes full advantage of the tall ceilings. You get some nice storage and somewhat decent counter space.

They managed to fit in a king-size bed. Don’t ask me how. It barely fits, but it does leave enough room to make your way around its edges. Most trailers this size do not have this size of a bed. However, most trailer bedrooms aren’t designed for anything but the bed and storage, so you aren’t really losing any true functionality. I actually like this bedroom’s design more than most units. They still managed to designed to keep it feeling open. There are several large cabinets over the head of the bed, to the sides, and past the foot of the bed.

At the foot, there is a lot of shelving space where the TV is installed. Of course, that comes with all the typical entertainment hookups.

2021 Keystone Cougar 22RBS

Keystone Cougar

Keystone has made one of the best small trailers available today. The 22RBS is a large trailer in a little trailer’s body. It has inherited the big-bodied genetics of the larger trailers but somehow managed to contain them within a very small 25’11” frame. As we go through each of the features, you will see how time after time this trailer exceeds all expectations.

Four Season Camping

Small trailers are very rarely built to withstand the colder temperatures. Thanks to a plethora of weather-related features, the 22RBS cannot only stand a chilly day, but it is rated for zero-degree temperatures. It has a heated and enclosed underbelly, a radiant barrier, and tank heaters. The furnace lines that warm the trailer are set next to the waterlines so that they can take advantage of the radiating heat.

All of that is great for keeping the cold out and the heat inside the trailer. What about if the interior is already at an uncomfortable temperature. If that’s the case, you will be happy to know that the 22RBS includes a 15,000 BTU air conditioner and the 35,000 BTU heater. Between those two, no matter the weather, you will be able to quickly transform any uncomfortable situation into something much more comfortable. It is incredible that the 15,000 BTU is a standard feature. If it was any other brand of trailer, this would definitely be an upgrade. This is a benefit that is included thanks to Keystone’s standardization practice; one of several.

Even though this is considered a lightweight trailer, which it is, it has the 2-inch sidewalls of a heavyweight. It’s a great money saver if you plan on using those costly environmental controls.

If you like a nice breeze on a summer day, you will be happy to know of the many windows that you can find around the unit. Some of the windows are quite large too. The trailers slide is almost entirely composed of them. They are all tinted too, so you will still have the privacy that most of us desire.

Short and Sturdy

The chassis and axles are supremely overpowered which says great things that its ability to withstand all of the potentially damaging effects of time and weight. It also means that you will be able to have a massively increased cargo capacity. Thanks to one of the best uses of storage space; you will have plenty of ways to take advantage of it.

I know I keep bringing this up on each unit, but it is important. There is a TON of storage space. It’s fantastic that there are so many places for storage because the chassis and axles opened the ability for us to make even more room for storing items. In addition to all of that space, you also get the largest hanging closet that I’ve seen in quite a long time. It’s been noted that you could, and people have, fit an entire refrigerator in there.

Any cooks out there should start celebrating. You might just have the best kitchen for a unit of this size. Big counter-tops, lots of storage, three-burner stove, an oven, a double-basin stainless steel sink with a high-rise faucet, a microwave, and all of it just looks fantastic.

In Command App

Your touchscreen command center can connect to your phone. Anything that you would normally control from the panel is accessible from your pocket. It’s super convenient, and I am happy to say, becoming increasingly common across all RVs.

  • Fresh: 60 Gallons
  • Exterior Height: 11 Feet, 4 Inches
  • Exterior Length:25 Feet, 11 Inches
  • Shipping Weight: 1,593 Pounds
  • Gross Combined Vehicle Weight: 7,200 Pounds
  • 70″ x 80″ King-size bed
  • Large 4K TV on Articulating Mount
  • 3-Inch Solid Door Frames
  • Related Floor Plans: 13
  • MSRP Price: $36,217

Conclusion On The Best Trailers for Couples

Ultimately the best trailer that will work for you and your partner as a couple will depend on your own personal wants and needs. Narrow the list of trailers down by common features that you would both like to have and then start to include additional features.

6 Lightweight Travel Trailers That are Perfect for Couples

lightweight travel trailers for couples

My husband and I have been on the search for the perfect travel trailer for almost a year. After many nights of researching on manufacturing websites, RV forums, and watching thousands (seriously, we think it’s about 3,000) YouTube videos we realized… The perfect travel trailer doesn’t exist.

However, here are a few that come pretty darn close. Here’s the parameters I’m going by – as this is what we preferred:

  • Walk around queen bed (RV size or residential)
  • Separate refrigerator and freezer
  • Max total length of 24 feet
  • Max dry weight 4500 pounds
  • Dry bath (separate shower/toilet)
  • Good storage
  • No bunks/bunkbeads
  • Not a toyhauler
  • Under $20,000

Here are a few trailers that we strongly considered while looking for our new travel trailer.

1. Keystone Bullet Crossfire 1800RB

Keystone is owned by Thor Industries, which also owns Airstream, Jayco, Dutchmen, and more. The 1800 RB (RB = rear bathroom) features a queen murphy bed which allows for a walk-around bed, while still keeping the coach at a smaller length. This is an affordable camper, with lots of storage options.

Pros: Campsite dinette, big rear bathroom with good storage, outside shower, dual propane tanks, enclosed underbelly (this is more important that you may think), outside shower.

Cons: No side tables/storage next to sofa, no black tank flush, murphy bed has to be supported at the base, tri-fold mattress

  • Length: 21 feet, 4 inches
  • Height: 10 feet, 5 inches
  • Width: 8 feet
  • Dry weight: 3400lbs (approx)

2. Forest River Cherokee Grey Wolf 18MT

Forest River is another big name manufacturer of RV and travel trailers. This Grey Wolf model is a step above an entry model, with some really nice features. First, it has an awesome outdoor kitchen with sink, mini-fridge, and ice maker. This model is also a murphy bed, but boasts a lot more storage than some of its counterparts.

Pros: Campsite dinette, bathroom has mirrors and storage, amazing outdoor kitchen and shower, backsplash, storage rack on back.

Cons: The bed has a funky set up and it’s a bit on the heavier side.

  • Length: 23 feet, 5 inches
  • Height: 10 feet, 6 inches
  • Dry weight: 4200lbs (approx)

3. Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108FBS

Winnebago is one of the best brands you’ll find when shopping for a travel trailer. They are well made, have the best materials, and some of the best warranties in the business. This 2108FBS is a beautiful trailer (and it’s more on the expensive side, but you can find it for less than $20K new if you try hard).

Pros: Easy to tow at 7 feet wide, lots of beautiful windows, privacy curtain, over and under bed storage (separate from passthrough storage), backsplash, framed doors, enclosed belly, huge awning, cross breeze at sleeping area.

Cons: It’s a bit more expensive and harder to find on lots. Outside showers are optional and not on all units.

  • Length: 21 feet, 11 inches
  • Width: 7 feet
  • Dry weight: 3980lbs (approx)

4. Forest River Salem Cruise Light 171RBXL

Another model from Forest River – this time from the Salem line. The 171RBXL is a murphy bed model with a campside dinette. If you’re a weekend warrior, or just starting out – you may want to check out this travel trailer. It’s very affordable (I’ve seen new models at $12,500). It’s very spacious, has a lot of accessible storage, and is much roomier than it looks. I would just look into swapping out the fan for a Fantastic and making sure to reinforce any leaks in the underbelly.

Pros: Super affordable entry level camper, lots and lots of storage space that’s easy to access, shower doors.

Cons: Underbelly not enclosed, no outside shower, and weak shower/exhaust fan.

  • Length: 22 feet, 5 inches
  • Height: 10 feet, 1 inches
  • Dry weight: 3800lbs (approx)

5. Sunset Park Sunray 199

Sunset Park Sunray trailers have that vintage look and are so Instagram friendly. The trailer offers a bit of separation from the sleeping and living area.

Pros: Comes in awesome vintage look/feel, large dinette than turns into a bed for 2 people, outside shower.

Cons: Not a ton of inside storage.

  • Length: 21 feet, 5 inches
  • Width: 7 feet, 1 inch
  • Dry weight: 3000 (approx)

6. Forest River R-Pod 192

R-Pods are known for the cute frog (Forest River Owner Group) on the side of the coach. While the R-Pod started as a teardrop trailer, newer models have expanded by a few feet and boast full-size refrigerators. The 192 model has a murphy bed for extra space while still keeping the cozy look and feel of a traditional R-Pod. Also, check out the 195 and 196 that have similar chassis.

Pros: Massive campsite dinette window, comes standard with TV, large pantry, lots of storage, exterior kitchen with spray hose, pet latch, residential queen.

Cons: Folding bed, shower lacks tile/coating, no mirror/med cabinet in bathroom, is not backup camera ready.

  • Length: 22 feet, 2 inches
  • Height: 9 feet, 10 inches
  • Width: 8feet

Other trailers to consider…

Like I said, we watched a LOT of videos. Here are some other models to consider that did not meet our specifications, but are models others may consider if you have a higher budget, can pull more weight, or a smaller refrigerator is OK.

In no particular order:

  • Keystone Outback 210URS
  • Apex 213 RDS
  • Venture RV Sonic 231VRK
  • Cougar 22RBS
  • GeoPro 19FD
  • Keystone Passport 216RD

We really liked that model. In truth, the layout of the 22rbs would prob be better for us — but the weight was just a bit too much and we’d have to upgrade our TV.

We are in the process of deciding on a couples lite trailer and have been researching the floorplans etc. online. One of the items on our wish list is appropriate counter space, which seems to be in short supply in most of the units we have looked into. Our one major question from a practical standpoint is this: where on earth do people put their coffee makers and toasters???

October 13, 2021 at 4:17 pm

We use a French press coffee maker ourselves, so we only have it out when using it. And we never used a toaster (just used the convection oven when we needed something toasted). Many people in the 192 add a shelf to the right of the sink. Some even add small carts. But that’s where our pup sleeps – so we make due.

Being able to answer the call of the open road with your significant other is one of life’s true joys.

There are even a lot of great travel trailers for couples with unique travel styles.

Of course, this also means that a lot of RV manufacturers have flooded the market with RVs with couple-specific features and specifications, which can make it hard to find the one that is best for you and your significant other.

You might be wondering what are some of the best travel trailers for a couple? If so, you might want to take a good hard look at the 2021 Coachmen – Freedom Express LTZ 252RBS and the 2021 Cruiser RV – Radiance R-25RK.

Though they certainly aren’t the only travel trailers built to cater to the needs of couples who want to answer the call of the open road.

So, we decided it was time to take a closer look at this rich field to highlight some of the best travel trailers for for you and your partner.

This included camper models that are known for superior build quality as well as having the features that a travel twosome might prioritize.

6 Best Small Camper Trailers for Couples in 2023

Best Travel Trailers For A Couple Reviews

While considering the best travel trailers for a couple we also kept in mind things like lightweight towing characteristics.

We recognized that if you only need to sleep two people, that you can get away with a slightly smaller, and lighter travel trailer that can be pulled by a typical midsize SUV.

Of course, we also realize that a lot of couples love some extra elbow room.

So, we also made sure to include some larger models that might also need a full-size pickup truck to tow them.

Here are 6 of the most comfortable and luxurious camper trailers for a RVing couple:

  • Coachmen – Freedom Express LTZ 252RBS
  • Forest River – Rockwood Mini Lite 2506S
  • Airstream – Flying Cloud 23FB
  • Coachmen – Apex Tera 16T
  • Cruiser RV – Radiance R-25RK
  • Dutchmen – Coleman Rubicon 1608RB

1. Coachmen – Freedom Express LTZ 252RBS

Coachmen - Freedom Express LTZ 252RBS

  • Length of 29.58 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 5,822 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,778 lbs.
  • GVWR of 7,600 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 672 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 50.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 35.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 35.0 gallons
  • 13,500 BTU Air Conditioner

On paper, the Coachmen – Freedom Express LTZ 252RBS travel trailer can sleep up to 6 people, though once you set foot in it, think you’ll agree that it’s set up best for a couple.

Then you can use things like the convertible dinette booth and the hide-a-bed sofa for times when you might want to have a guest or the grand kids sleepover. If anything the hide-a-bed might let one of you get a good night’s sleep, even if the other one is snoring like a chainsaw.

One of the other features that appeal to couples looking for a travel trailer is the large entertainment center that can be adjusted toward the dinette or the sofa. This lets you watch TV while you eat, or lets you both snuggle up to watch a movie. There’s even an artificial fireplace, to help warm things up on an unseasonably cool summer evening.

The kitchen set up in the Coachmen – Freedom Express LTZ 252RBS is nothing short of impressive and will be a true joy for a couple who loves to cook. The midship kitchen includes a dual basin sink, a large RV refrigerator, a three-burner stove, and a microwave.

There’s also an exterior kitchen with its own reach-in RV refrigerator, slide-out sink station, and a griddle. This lets you cook meals outside to keep from competing with the robust 13,500 BTU rooftop RV air conditioner.

2. Forest River – Rockwood Mini Lite 2506S

Forest River - Rockwood Mini Lite 2506S

  • Length of 25 ft. 11 in
  • Dry Weight of 5,528 lbs.
  • GVWR of 6,974 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 644 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 52.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 60.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 30.0 gallons
  • 35,000 BTU Heater

The Forest River – Rockwood Mini Lite 2506S is a compact travel trailer that has a lot to offer a traveling couple who prioritize creature comforts. This starts with a very thoughtful layout that sets the queen-size master suite at the back, a midship bathroom, and a living room that combines seamlessly with the kitchen.

When you consider that the queen-size master suite has its own TV, it means that you can both have a snuggle area to watch TV. Yet you also have some space with the additional TV in the living room where you each might wants some “Me Time.”

It also helps that the U-shaped dinette converts into a comfortable bed for those times when one of you just won’t stop snoring.

The exterior of the Forest River – Rockwood Mini Lite 2506S is also very well-thought-out. There are two exterior storage bays to let you keep your essential camping gear when you are on the move.

They also serve as hatches to stow your soiled shoes and outdoor gear to help keep the interior of the travel trailer neat and tidy.

You also get a 17-foot long awning, as well as an outside kitchen for those hot days when you don’t want the heat of cooking a meal to compete with the 13,500 BTU RV air conditioning system. Two things that might go understated, but should are benefits with this couples travel trailer is the heating.

This starts with an artificial fireplace in the main living room to help warm you both up on a cool summer night. Then there is also a 35,000 BTU propane furnace that comes as standard.

This makes the Rockwood Mini Lite 2506S one of the best travel trailers for a couple who loves to camp in the mountain or in cool fall weather.

3. Airstream – Flying Cloud 23FB

Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB

  • Length of 23.75 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 4806 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,194 lbs.
  • GVWR of 6,000 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 467 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 37.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 37.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 17.0 gallons
  • 18,000 BTU Heater

Airstream is one of the iconic all-American travel trailer brands . They originally made their name selling models that catered to the needs of couples and small families. So we would be remiss if we didn’t include a model like the Airstream – Flying Cloud 23FB on our list of best travel trailers for a couple.

It has all the styling and looks of the “Classic” Airstream travel trailer, though it doesn’t carry the uber-high price tag. Instead, you get a travel trailer that is cozy for a couple, yet light enough that a robust midsize SUV or full-size SUV can tow it.

Just make sure to compare the gross weight to the maximum towing capacity of your vehicle.

The living quarter at midship combines the kitchen and living room together in one flow-thru layout. The queen-size master suite sits at the front and includes a privacy curtain that you can draw for those times when one of you wants to go to bed early.

The bathroom is stashed in the back and includes a full shower with plenty of elbow room. The six-gallon water heater in the Airstream – Flying Cloud 23FB is a little bit on the small side and probably won’t leave you enough hot water for both of you to take back to back showers.

Though you could very easily remove it to gain more space and install a tankless water heater. While this idea runs a little bit against the classic grain of Airstream’s tradition, it makes sense for a traveling couple and is easy to do.

4. Coachmen – Apex Tera 16T

Coachmen - Apex Tera 16T

  • Dry Weight of 2,860 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 940 lbs.
  • GVWR of 3,800 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 330 lbs.
  • Length of 19.67 ft.

When you take a moment to look at the specifications of the Coachmen – Apex Tera 16T there’s a lot for a traveling couple to like.

Right off the bat, the maximum gross vehicle weight rating of just 3,800-pounds means that a couple can pack this travel trailer to the gills, and it will still be comfortable within the towing capacity of most midsize SUVs .

Though just because it’s light doesn’t mean that this couples-friendly travel trailer is stripped down. While the interior is compact, like you’d expect from a 19-foot long camper, you still get a full-size bed in the rear, a complete dry bath, and a complete kitchen.

There’s even a 6-cubic foot RV absorption refrigerator, which will keep enough food for two people, and a comfortable dinette for you both to eat meals together. The exterior of the Coachmen – Apex Tera 16T is also well-appointed. You can’t go more than a few paces without coming across a storage compartment to let you keep your personal items separate.

There’s even an outdoor camp kitchen that lets one person grill the meat outside while the other prepares the side dishes in the midship interior kitchen.

The fresh and wastewater storage tanks on the 2022 Coachmen – Apex Tera 16T are also very large for a camper this compact and lightweight. With 50 gallons of fresh water and a pair of 35-gallon wastewater tanks, a couple can be supported nicely for several days of boondocking without having to resupply.

5. Cruiser RV – Radiance R-25RK

Cruiser RV – Radiance R-25RK

  • Length of 31.33 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 6,140 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 3,252 lbs.
  • GVWR of 9,440 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 640 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 44.0 gallons
  • 30,000 BTU furnace

The Cruiser RV – Radiance R-25RK is the true heavyweight on this list with a dry weight of 6,140 pounds and an impressive payload capacity of 3,252 pounds. When it comes to towing this means that you and your significant other need a full-size SUV or half-ton pickup to tow this travel trailer with confidence.

Assuming you’ve got the tow vehicle then what you are treated to is one of the best travel trailers for a couple that prioritizes elbow room. Right off the bat, you’ll notice a king-size bed in the front of the Cruiser RV – Radiance R-25RK.

On each side, there are his and hers nightstands and a wardrobe closet. Below it is a full belly storage system.

Not only does this boost the staggering payload capacity, but it also makes the weight of the travel trailer biased toward the tongue, where you want it. The nicely appointed kitchen sits at the back and has its own second door. This also provides the midship living room with tons of space and perfectly positions the entertainment center opposite a comfortable loveseat.

6. Dutchmen – Coleman Rubicon 1608RB

Dutchmen - Coleman Rubicon 1608RB

  • Length of 20.7 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 3846 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 958 lbs.
  • GVWR of 4,840 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 525 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 46.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 28.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 28.0 gallons

The Dutchmen – Coleman Rubicon 1608RB is another one of the best compact lightweight travel trailers for a couple who wants to be able to tow it without investing in a gas-guzzling full-size pickup truck.

Completely empty it only has a dry weight of just 3,880-pounds. Yet it still has enough cargo capacity of up to 980-pounds to let each of you bring all your essential items and camping gear.

The interior of the Dutchmen – Coleman Rubicon 1608RB is cozy, without feeling cramped. There’s a queen-size bed at the front, which sits over a pass-thru storage compartment.

The midship love seat sits opposite the kitchen and entertainment center. There’s a portable indoor/outdoor table that lets you eat a meal together and catch your favorite shows.

In the back, there’s a full-size bathroom, that is connected to the 46-gallon fresh water tank and a pair of 28-gallon wastewater storage tanks.

This gives a couple the capacity to camp off the grid for a day or two, though the Coleman Rubicon 1608RB is probably a better travel trailer for couples who like to stay at an RV park with easy access to resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth it to upgrade the water heater.

One of the biggest complaints you find in a couples travel trailer is that most come with just a 6-gallon hot water heater.

This usually means one person gets a nice hot shower and the other gets a lukewarm shower where the hot water runs out.

Not to mention being short on hot water to wash the dishes. Some travel trailers make it easy to upgrade the hot water heater, though many simply don’t have the available space.

If you both love to take long hot showers, you might want to consider investing in a tankless water heater .

Not only will it give both of you on-demand hot water, but it will also open up more storage space when you remove the old 6-gallon tank.

Do Travel Trailers Under 25 Feet Have King Size Beds?

Many of the best travel trailers for couples end up being under 25-feet long.

This usually gives you a model that you can tow easily with an SUV or a light-duty pickup truck.

Though a compact travel trailer like this typically only offers a queen-size or a full-size bed in the master suite.

If you and your significant other prioritize a king-size bed, you might need to start shopping models that are longer than 25-feet long.

How Much Water Storage Does A Couple People?

The average person staying in an RV who is being conscious about their water consumption will go through about 6 to 7 gallons of water each day.

When you double that up for a couple, you are looking at about 12 to 15 gallons of water per day.

If your travel style has you boondocking off the grid for a typical two-day weekend , you should prioritize travel trailers that have at least a 25 to 30-gallon fresh water storage tank and matching grey water tank.

Which RV Trailer Is Right For You And Your Partner?

There are a lot of great travel trailers for couples on the market today.

Finding the best one for you and your significant other will depend on your travel style, as well as how much elbow room you both need.

Of course, you also need to factor in your tow vehicle to make sure you can safely pull the travel trailer you prioritize.

If you have an SUV and you want a camper that’s easy to tow, without having to upgrade your vehicle then the Dutchmen – Coleman Rubicon 1608RB and the Coachmen – Apex Tera 16T might be the best travel trailer to meet your needs.

Both are lightweight and compact when you drive down the road, without being cramped when you park up at your campsite.

If you and your significant other love to spread out, and you have a full-size pickup truck with the horsepower to pull it, then the Cruiser RV – Radiance R-25RK might be the best travel trailer to meet your needs.

Not only does it have an impressively wide-open interior, but you also get a king-size bed with his and hers wardrobe closets.

Buying your first lightweight travel trailer as a couple can seem a bit overwhelming and intimidating. With so many options on the market, how do you even know where to start? I’m here to tell you that you are not alone. In fact, every travel trailer and RV owner on the road had to make their first purchase at some point.

We’re here to help. Our goal is to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about your purchase, and hopefully ease some of the stress you may be experiencing along the way.

lightweight travel trailers for couples

Afterall, buying a travel trailer that is perfect for a couple should be an exciting and rewarding experience for you and your sweetheart.

In this article, we look at 5 lightweight travel trailers that are ideal for couples as well as a few things to consider before jumping headfirst into your purchase.

Let’s jump in…

What To Consider When Buying A Travel Trailer

When it comes to buying a lightweight travel trailer, there are certain things you should take into consideration. The last thing you want is to spend your hard-earned money on a rig that doesn’t suit the needs of you and your significant other.

RV LIFE Pro Banner

Agree On A Budget

One of the first things you’ll want to consider before buying a travel trailer for couples is your budget. Sit down with your partner and figure out a budget you can both agree on. Keep in mind, however, that there are certain maintenance and storage costs associated with owning a travel trailer. Once you agree on a price, as a couple, stick to the budget.

If you are considering buying a travel trailer for two from a dealership, be sure to check out Top 5 Things You Should Know About RV Dealerships beforehand. You can also save thousands of dollars by buying a used camper form a private seller .

In addition, be sure to check out our article on the average price of travel trailers here.

Sleeping Capacity

Before purchasing a travel trailer suited for couples, be sure to choose the floorplan carefully. Take into consideration that most of the time it will only be the two of you.

If you will be camping with extended family or friends, you’ll want to make sure there are sleeping areas for everyone.

On the other hand, if you will be traveling primarily with your significant other, the sleeping capacity of the travel trailer isn’t quite so important, as long as there is room for two.

Another important factor to consider before buying a travel trailer for two is to decide if you will want a wet bath, a dry bath, or no bathroom at all.

While most travel trailers will come equipped with a small bathroom, many pop-up campers or tear drop trailers will not have a bathroom at all.

This decision should be made as a couple. While you might be fine with a wet bath, your sweety might not like the idea of showering in the immediate vicinity of the toilet.

The next factor you need to consider is kitchen space. Ask yourself how much you will be cooking inside your new camper and choose a floorplan with the kitchen amenities that suit your needs.

Many couples will only use their travel trailers on the weekends and prefer to do most of the cooking over a campfire or portable RV grill . Afterall, nobody wants to spend all their free time inside cooking and cleaning up afterwards.

Extra Features

Many basic, lightweight travel trailers will not come equipped with many of the extras you might find like one of these luxury fifth wheel campers. However, if certain features like a powered awning, outdoor speakers, or electric tongue jack are on your “need” list, make sure you find a travel trailer that offers those extras.

Couples looking for their first travel trailer will typically focus on campers with less “bells and whistles” and those that come equipped with the basic needs for a weekend camping trip.

The last, and possibly most important, factor to consider is the weight of the travel trailer. Many beginners and couples in the RV community may not have a vehicle capable of towing heavy weights.

Know your numbers before you buy. You can check the towing capacity of your specific vehicle by looking at the owner’s manual or by looking at the sticker located inside the driver’s door jamb.

We currently have a 2018 Kodiak 201QB that we use when we head out for a weekend camping trip. It is the perfect size for couples and has all the basic features we need.

We wanted to do a quick walk-thru video of our travel trailer and the result is shown in the video below. Fair warning…it’s not the typical camper walk-thru that you might be used to seeing.

K-Z Sportsman Classic 130RB

This small, lightweight travel trailer from K-Z is a great entry level camper for beginners and couples alike. The door is located at the rear of the camper making the front of the unit dedicated for living space.

KZ Sportsman travel trailer for couples

Just inside the door there are storage cabinets to the left and a small bathroom that is equipped with a basic toilet and a rather large shower.

lightweight travel trailers for couples

The kitchen area features a small microwave oven mounted above a two-burner stove that is perfect for preparing your favorite campground meals. Next to the stove is a deep, single basin sink with a residential style faucet.

The small refrigerator is mounted under the countertop and is the perfect size for a weekend getaway. However, there is no separate freezer for making ice or keeping food frozen. One of these countertop ice makers would make a great addition to this kitchen.

The A/C is mounted in the wall vs. the traditional roof mounted units. The 54” dinette is the perfect size for a couple to sit and eat a romantic dinner and afterwards, it converts into the main sleeping area.

There is also ample storage space under the centrally located sofa and above the dinette.

Outside, this travel trailer for couples is equipped with a 10’ powered awning and a small basement storage area for packing your camping gear.

Additional specs:

  • Length – 16’ 9”
  • Dry Weight – 1,970 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight – 270 lbs.
  • Fresh Water Tank – 20 gal.

Scamp 16 Travel Trailer

If you are looking for a lightweight travel trailer with many options for a couple, look no further than Scamp travel trailer. The Scamp 16 travel trailer is available in 5 different floorplans, or layouts, which have configurations to meet the needs of any couple.

Scamp 16 lightweight travel trailer

When entering the door of Layout 5, you will find a storage cabinet immediately to the right, as well as additional storage in the cabinets across from the door. There is also plenty of overhead storage space above the kitchen cabinets, as well as above, and below, the convertible dinette.

Scamp 16 floorplan

The centrally located kitchen in this travel trailer is equipped with a two-burner stove, a single basin sink, with sink cover for added counter space, and a small refrigerator.

The bathroom is very basic. You will find nothing more than a toilet and shower combo, or wet bath.

This particular floorplan is more suited for a solo traveler or couples who love to explore.

  • Length – 16’
  • Dry Weight – 2,200
  • Hitch Weight – 165 lbs.
  • Fresh Water Tank – 12 gal.
  • Gray Water Tank – 21 gal.
  • Black Water Tank – 9 gal. (cassette toilet)

Winnebago Hike H170S

The Winnebago Hike is one of the coolest lightweight travel trailers for couples on the market. This rig is built for those who want to take their adventures a bit off the beaten path.

lightweight travel trailers for couples

This lightweight camper comes equipped with 15” all-terrain tires, a 100-watt solar panel, and a powder coated exterior rack system making it ideal for the couple who loves to camp off-grid.

The rack system is designed for adding any Thule roof rack system and accessories you may need for additional gear, like kayaks or fishing rods.

When it comes to storage, this camper doesn’t disappoint. On the tongue of this travel trailer is a powder coated, diamond plate storage box that contains the house batteries, propane tanks, and any other RV camping gear you need to fit inside.

There are basement storage compartments at the front and rear of the coach that are large enough to pack any extra gear for your next big adventure as a couple.

There is ample inside storage as well with cabinets above, and below the dinette. It doesn’t end there. In the kitchen there is storage space above and beneath the single basin sink, and in the bathroom, there is a side-mounted medicine cabinet as well as a wardrobe closet behind the toilet.

Other impressive features a couple might enjoy are a queen-sized bed, a small convertible dinette, a small kitchen, and a 10’ powered awning.

The opposing windows located on each side of the bed allow for maximum airflow and cross-ventilation as well as plenty of natural light during the daytime hours.

Coming in at 3,500 pounds, this travel trailer is not only ideal for a loving couple but is also perfect for towing behind a Jeep Gladiator .

  • Length – 20’ 7”
  • Dry Weight – 3,500 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight – 400 lbs.
  • Fresh Water Tank – 31 gal.
  • Gray Water Tank – 25 gal.
  • Black Water Tank – 25 gal.

Rockwood Geo Pro 20FBS

With a sleeping capacity of two, this lightweight travel trailer is a great choice for couples.

lightweight travel trailers for couples

The entrance to the camper is equipped with drawbridge steps, which help keep the travel trailer from rocking when someone comes in or out.

Across from the entry door is a small bathroom with a large shower and a corner mounted vanity sink with a medicine cabinet for storage.

This lightweight travel trailer comes equipped with one slide that houses a sofa that sits directly across from the wall-mounted TV.

The free-standing dining table tops off the space giving you and your sweetheart the perfect place to enjoy a meal or your favorite movie.

On the opposing side of the camper is the small, yet practical kitchen. There is a large, single basin sink with a residential style faucet, 3-burner stove with optional oven, vent hood, and a microwave mounted above the refrigerator.

At the end of this travel trailer sits the Queen-sized bed that features under-bed storage, twin nightstands, and wardrobe closets on each side of the bed.

The biggest drawback I found with this couples travel trailer is the location of the bathroom in relation to the slide. What I mean by that is when the slide is pulled in, it blocks part of the bathroom door making it unusable, unless the slide is out.

Now, this might not seem like a big deal, but for some it is. See, when we are traveling in a rural area and have to pee, we pull over and use the bathroom in our camper. Trust me, it has been a life saver more than once.

  • Length – 21’
  • Dry Weight – 3,258 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight – 410 lbs.
  • Gray Water Tank – 30 gal.
  • Black Water Tank – 30 gal.

Venture Sonic Lite SL150VRB

The Venture Sonic Lite travel trailer was designed specifically for two people. Like the Rockwood Geo above, this lightweight travel trailer only has a sleeping capacity of two.

As you enter this camper you will see that it features a space saving murphy bed. By day it is a sofa with removable dinette table, and by night it folds down to make a great place for a couple to get a good night’s rest.

We wrote an entire article all about travel trailers with murphy beds you can check out here.

I am having trouble deciding from a travel trailer to a RV. I am lookong used and am feeling a little intimadated to whole Idea of living in and owning a travel house. Wade i think you look a lot like my cousin Braden. Uncanning. With that said what would you recommend? I am a woman, in my 40’s, with a disability looking for a home. I dont need super luxury, but I also dont want something that could potentially be a money eater. I have a variety of tools and sure i can use them and figure things out, but even i know when i shoukdnt or its beyond my knowledge. When i go camping its usually in my car or a tent. What wpuld you reccommend? Are there easier and harder options? Can i paint this rv purple and green if i would like? I have so many questions. I will keep on researching more and more i kind of liked the van home my cousin guy had two yeara ago, althoigh i never dis get to see the inside. I dont know whether to buy a dolly and tow my car behind or buy a new car to tow the home. The 4 cylinder vehicle i have may not be enoigh. I just hope it is big enough for 2 and maybe a dog. I may want to make dinner for aomeone someday. I may want to have my family visit., althoigh theu may have to find their own place to sleep. Wow i better stop, i have no idea.

What about cassita and scamp? They are 13-17 feet and feature full bath, kitchen, dinette, full bed, etc

Those are indeed great options John. Thanks for bringing them to the attention of your fellow readers!

Is there anything <3,000 that sleep 3 adults and has a bathroom? We’re a family of 4 with 3 wanting to visit the 4th at college for weekends. Car is a Chevy Traverse with max tow of 5,000-ish but understand we want to be well under for the trailer. Lots of options to sleep 2.

Dry weight does not include the cargo or the weight of the passengers. Isn’t that to be considered when towing capacity. Our towing capacity is 3,500 lbs. we were told to add our weight and everything in the truck bed and stowed inThe camper such as food appliances and dishes.

I would like to come down Monday afternoon to apply for finance Im looking for a small pull behind camper that sleeps four

Hi Courtney!

There is a lot to learn when you’re new to RVing, but I’d say the best thing you can do is head to your local Camping World to actually tour different RV types and floorplans in person. There’s really no substitute for walking into an RV when it comes to envisioning how your lifestyle might look if you owned it.

Aside from that, here are a few links to articles that address some of your questions:

https://blogcw.local/rv-basics/finding-your-rv/how-to-overcome-first-time-rver-intimidation/ https://blogcw.local/rv-basics/finding-your-rv/choosing-your-rv-towable-vs-motorized/ https://blogcw.local/rv-basics/finding-your-rv/intro-to-rvs-types-classes/ https://blogcw.local/rv-basics/inside-your-rv/what-you-need-to-know-if-you-want-to-repaint-the-inside-of-your-rv/ https://blogcw.local/rv-basics/finding-your-rv/5-rvs-you-can-pull-with-an-suv/ https://blogcw.local/rv-basics/finding-your-rv/rv-buying-guide-towing-with-a-midsize-suv/

Hi Peter, it’s not a big secret, but the price can vary dramatically depending on the deals and promotions currently going on. Because of that, they are omitted from this article. It would be silly to publish prices when you could potentially get a far better deal than the list price. I’d suggest you go to https://rv.campingworld.com/ if you’re curious about the prices on these travel trailers. The prices can be easily found there.

Yep! Check the inventory on Camping World’s website!

Hi Pam, your right. Dry weight doesn’t include the cargo or the weight of the passengers. It must be factored in. If you’re vehicle is only able to tow 3,500 lbs, then you definitely need to make sure you’re under that with the passengers and cargo included.

Hi Joda, give your local dealership a call and I’m sure they will be happy to assist you!

Hi Jerry, the price will vary depending on where they’re sold. The MSRP isn’t super representative of what you can get them for at Camping World dealerships. Your best bet is to click through to Camping World’s inventory and see what the dealers have them listed for.

5 Great Small Lightweight Travel Trailers For Couples

Although traveling with a camper is a popular pastime for families, it also provides an excellent way to bring couples closer together. You can find great smaller compact campers that will suit couples perfectly in lieu of a larger trailer.

Here’s our list of 5 compact travel trailers for couples.

2018 Lance 1575

2018 palomino puma 32rkts, 2017 forest river rockwood mini lite 1909s, 2019 winnebago minnie drop 170s, 2020 oliver legacy elite.

Table of Contents

What Makes A Travel Trailer Great For Couples?

As with any purchase, you’ll need a solid list of criteria before determining which product is right for you. Here are some of the hallmarks of the ideal travel trailer for couples.

When it’s just the two of you, there’s no need to haul around a gigantic trailer. There are plenty of models available that measure less than 25 feet in length, and some under 20 feet.

You also don’t need to worry about additional bunk space. Just one decent-sized bed will be enough to accommodate two people.

Light Weight

This is a corollary to the size factor, but it deserves its own category because the two aren’t necessarily linked together. Look for a GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of 4000 or less.

Trailers with this weight rating are capable of being towed by a light-duty truck or SUV, so you won’t need to invest in a larger vehicle just to haul your new home-away-from-home.

Affordability

Cost is a major factor in any purchasing decision. For a major investment like this one, it’s crucial to find that perfect balance between budget and quality. You don’t want to buy a cheap travel trailer that you’ll have to replace within a few years, but it’s also important not to stray too far from what you can reasonably afford.

Bathroom Facilities

While larger families might be willing to sacrifice a separate toilet and shower area (what’s known as a “dry bath” ) for more living space, we think it’s important for couples to have well-appointed bathroom facilities.

When you don’t have young ones to worry about, it’s easier to go off the beaten path. With a decent bathroom, you can boondock for days at a time–no need to scout for a nearby RV park with comfort stations.

Personal Appeal

Look for amenities that you’re most likely to take advantage of. If you enjoy cooking out, try to find a unit that has an outdoor grill feature and decent-sized awning.

Conversely, if you don’t like to cook much at all, look for a trailer with minimal kitchen facilities. Couples who have a king-sized bed at home would be most comfortable in a trailer with a larger sleeping area.

Remember: This travel trailer is meant to be your second home . Make sure you invest in a travel trailer that suits your lifestyle and interests.

Best 5 Travel Trailers For Couples

With a total length of 20 feet and 6 inches, and a GVWR of just 3,500 pounds, the Lance 1575 is one of the most lightweight and maneuverable trailers on our list. Despite its diminutive footprint, its interior height stands at a roomy 78 inches.

Since this model can sleep up to four people, it’s a good choice for couples who might want to invite friends or grandchildren along from time to time.

The Lance 1575 offers a decently sized refrigerator at 5 cubic feet, along with a 3-burner range for cooking. There’s a tub and shower combo in the bathroom, which is another huge plus.

The bed is queen-sized, with a comfortable pillow top. We’re especially big fans of the tinted windows, which make it easier to sleep in and afford couples with an extra dose of privacy.

The one drawback to the Lance 1575 is its price, which is relatively high considering its size. If you can afford it, however, this is an excellent upscale option.

Specifications:

Length: 20 feet, 5 inches

Height: 9 feet 10 inches

Width: 7 feet-3/8 inches

Dry Weight: 2775 pounds

Sleeps: 4 people

Fresh Water: 26 gallons

Gray Water: 26 gallons

Black Water: 26 gallons

Awning Size: 12 feet

Manufacturers Website

Palomino has been in business for more than 50 years, and the Puma RKTS is a shining example of the company’s commitment to quality. With a sleeping capacity of 2 to 4, it’s great for couples but allows you the option of inviting guests from time to time.

The roomy queen-sized bed and jackknife sofa give the interior a plush, comfy vibe that make it difficult to get out and explore.

The dry bath offers plenty of storage for towels and toiletries, and the 30″ by 48″ shower is both spacious and reliable. Numerous upgrades are available, including a larger stainless steel fridge and a 15,000-BTU air conditioner .

At 35 feet and 7 inches, this is a much larger travel trailer than some of the other units we’ve listed, but we think its perks make it well worth the extra length and weight. Consider the Puma 32RKTS if you already own a heavy-duty truck and are comfortable towing an oversized load.

Length: 35 feet, 7 inches

Height: 11 feet, 1 inch

Width: 8 feet

Dry Weight: 7839 pounds

Sleeps: 6 people

Fresh Water: 51 gallons

Gray Water: 37 gallons

Black Water: 35 gallons

Awning Size: 18 feet

Forest River’s Rockwood Mini Lite 1909S is, in our opinion, the epitome of a no-frills travel trailer. With a GVWR of under 5,000 pounds and a length of just 20 feet 4 inches, it can be easily towed by a regular SUV or light-duty truck. If you don’t have much experience with towing a travel trailer, this could be the perfect fit.

The rear bed is large enough for a close couple, but doesn’t take up too much room. The kitchen has a convenient layout and is faced by the sofa, which gives the interior a nice streamlined appearance. We’re especially impressed by the stall shower, which is generously sized for a unit this small.

Forest River offers many add-ons for its travel trailers, and the 1909S is no exception. Some options include a power awning, an outdoor grill, a mounted 24-inch television, and a 44-inch dinette for entertaining.

If you’re starting with a low budget but think you might like to upgrade at some point in the future, this could be the rig for you.

Length: 20 feet

Height: 10 feet, 2 inches

Dry Weight: 3316 pounds

Fresh Water: 43 gallons

Gray Water: 30 gallons

Black Water: 30 gallons

Awning Size: 11 feet

The Minnie Drop 170S is one of Winnebago’s least expensive offerings, but don’t let the low price tag scare you off. This is a well-appointed unit with a spacious interior, despite having a GVWR of just 3,800 pounds.

Like the Rockwood Mini Lite 1909S, it measures 20 feet 4 inches in length, making it a great fit for first-timers who are nervous about towing huge loads.

Unlike some earlier versions of this model, the 2019 Minnie Drop 170S comes equipped with a dry bath, earning it extra points in our opinion. It’s capable of sleeping up to 3 people according to the specifications, but we wouldn’t recommend it unless the third person happens to be either very young or extremely short.

Length: 20 feet, 3 inches

Height: 9 feet, 2 inches

Dry Weight: 2800 pounds

Fresh Water: 31 gallons

Gray Water: 25 gallons

Black Water: 25 gallons

Awning Size: 10 feet

Oliver Travel Trailers Legacy Elite model measures just 18 feet and 5 inches long, making it the shortest trailer listed here. The interior height measures 6 feet 1 inch, so it might be problematic for taller individuals who want to stand to their full height when inside the trailer.

We found the interior to be cozy rather than cramped, with a handsome wrap-around dinette, attractive kitchen appliances, and a full bathroom.

A few important caveats: The Legacy Elite is a bit heavier than some of our other listings, with a GVWR of 5,000 pounds. It’s still towable with a full-sized RV, but it’s something to be aware of.

Second, there’s no separate sleeping area–the dinette must be converted into a bed for sleeping. While this might be economical in terms of space, we’re not huge fans of having to reconfigure the layout every night and again every morning.

Finally, this model is priced on the high end of the spectrum, especially for a small trailer. Consider the Legacy Elite only if cost is not a primary concern.

Length: 18 feet, 5 inches

Height: 9 feet

Width: 6 feet, 6 inches

Dry Weight: 3700 pounds

Sleeps: 3 people

Fresh Water: 32 gallons

Gray Water: 32 gallons

Black Water: 18.5 gallons

In Conclusion

What’s the best travel trailer for couples? Our personal favorite would have to be the Lance 1575, based on its convenient size and generously appointed layout.

Our only quibble is with the price tag, but considering the years of enjoyment that the camper is bound to provide, we think it’s well worth the investment.

Best of luck, and happy camping!

View All Heartland  North Trail Travel Trailer Floorplans!

Why we recommend the Heartland North Trail travel trailer:  If you’re looking for travel trailers that have additional space than the other choices, then the North Trail should be perfect for you. Many of its floorplans are over 30 feet and still have a sleeping capacity of 4, making it one of the travel trailers with the best space to sleeping capacity ratio. travel trailers for couples

View All Forest River  Forest River R-Pod Travel Trailer Floorplans!

Why we recommend Forest River R-Pod travel trailer:  It might seem like we’re overdoing it with travel trailers from Forest River, but the fact that the R-pod is one of the smallest, most featherlight travel trailers gives it the great credit it deserves. If it’s just the two of you, the size will be perfect! It can also handle 2 more people, having floorplans with bunk beds if you’ve decided to bring friends along.

Don’t let the small size convince you that Forest River has cut corners on features. While we liked the bunkhouse on the  R-Pod RP-172  and the U-Shaped Dinette on the  R-Pod RP-190 , they otherwise share the same features. You also have the option to add a 13,500 BTU air conditioner, a convection microwave, a 24-inch flat screen LED TV among many other features, making this a versatile travel trailer as well!

Finding the best travel trailer for a couple can be hard – there are just so many different types of RV and travel trailers on the market! Shopping around for the best travel trailer for you and your partner? Whether you’re happily married or just beginning your romantic journey together, finding the ideal travel trailer for your camping trips matters!

Travel trailers are not every family’s first choice when going camping. Often, they do not offer their large families very much room. However, it is possible to find a travel trailer for couples, and we’ve saved you the time of hunting around by revealing our best finds in this blog! So if it’s just you and your significant other hitting the road, the travel trailers on this list will be your Cinderella slipper!

But what should you be looking for when it comes to a travel trailer for couples? Thankfully, I have the experience and know what to look for, since I live full-time in a 19-foot vintage travel trailer with my high school sweetheart and our dog.

Travel trailers are amazing homes on wheels for couples, and going on a journey is what they are made for!

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Travel Trailers For Couples?

So, your partner wants the two of you to take a trip together. Sounds great, and like a magical new experience for the both of you to share together!

You decide camping in an RV will be your best bet to have a safe and fun time, and you’ve chosen a travel trailer as your style of rig. But what about travel trailers makes them a good choice for couples?

Pro: Trailers Can Be Left Behind

The main perk of travel trailers in my book is their ability to be left at camp. If you’re on a journey, seeing new sights, the last thing you want is to travel in an overly large motorhome or camper. The best part of a travel trailer is the ability to leave it behind! Once you unhitch your RV from your vehicle, you’re free as a bird!

Pro: Towable Vehicles Offer Flexibility

No matter what specific type of travel trailer you look at, you need to be prepared for one very important detail: your trailer must be towed. This might not be what you are hoping for, but there are a lot of positives to towable travel trailers versus motorhomes. However, driving with a towable rig can be a little difficult , so you may consider this a con.

Pro: They Are Lightweight

Another perk of travel trailers is their lightweight design . Motorhomes and coaches guzzle diesel fuel or gasoline , a huge drawback if you are only planning a small budget for your upcoming trip. Some travel trailers are so light that you can tow them with the smallest of cars, which means you won’t have to worry about renting or borrowing someone’s large truck to tow your new rig!

Con: Travel Trailers Are A Small Space For Couples

If you’re a fairly new couple, or you know that you both value time and space away from one another, a travel trailer may feel like fairly tight quarters . If you aren’t prepared to always be in one another’s space, a travel trailer may not be a good fit for you. No matter how long the trip, travel trailers never feel like they have enough space!

However, there’s always the great outdoors if you’re looking for some time and space to reflect, and the travel trailer will be there when you are feeling relaxed and ready to be cozy with your partner!

Con: Some Trailers Are Expensive For A Tiny Space

RVs in general are a large investment, and some travel trailers with branded names such as Airstream, can cost an arm and a leg too . The high price tag for such a small space can initially be a surprise. But the price is often due to the innovation, time, and design process of creating campers that are small, yet still contain everything a couple traveling in a travel trailer could possibly need.

What Are The Types Of Travel Trailers?

So you’re feeling confident that a travel trailer is the right move for the two of you as a couple. How exciting! However, what type of travel trailer is best suited to couples?

All travel trailers are towed behind a vehicle using classic ball hitches. But how else do they vary from one another?

Let’s take a look!

Classic Travel Trailers

The most classic travel trailer you can get may be the right fit for you. And that’s because there are so many different fits!

A classic travel trailer is towed behind your vehicle using a ball hitch and ranges in length from 10-35 feet. These classic trailers often have four tires total and are the most traditional setup when it comes to the interior (bedroom, bathroom, living area, kitchen). Slideouts are also a popular feature on nearly all newer travel trailers .

Given the range of length, weight, and specifications possible on classic travel trailers, it’s recommended you check out all of the necessary weight requirements before purchasing one. Some trailers require a heavy-duty truck for towing, despite their small size, but if you don’t own a truck, it may be worth exploring a rental option if possible . My vintage rig may only be 19 feet long but given its old metal frame, I need a V8 truck to tow it!

A classic travel trailer may give you both the space you want, but make sure your vehicle can tow it!

Toy Hauler Trailers

Looking for a home on wheels that will also transport all of your other recreational toys? A toy hauler does exactly what it says in the name, and may be a good choice for you and your partner if you have a lot of other fun vehicles!

Toy haulers are towable rigs and some of the largest travel trailers out there . They come with a fold-down ramp often at the back end of the trailer, perfect for wheeling out your ATVs, motorcycles, jet skis, and whatever else you can fit back there!

These trailers are designed as a half garage, half living space, with various different layouts affecting the style. The sky’s the limit in terms of customizing your toy hauler but at the end of the day, you need a vehicle that can tow it!

Toy haulers are often the heaviest of travel trailers, as they are carrying even more vehicles inside of them! These are the peak of recreational vehicles, allowing you the maximum amount of entertainment possible, but just make sure you can handle the weight!

Teardrop Trailers

Now that you’ve seen the biggest travel trailer options, let’s take a look at the smallest: teardrop trailers! These little guys are amazing for those of you hoping to tow with your small car, as most teardrops weigh less than 1,000 pounds to tow! What a great idea, making a camper so little! This also means it will be easy to store at your home. What’s the catch?

As I’m sure you might’ve guessed, these trailers are tiny. So much so that for the most part, teardrop trailers only have enough space for a mattress inside. A kitchen is often built off the back of the trailer, which means your cooking must be done outside. There are never bathrooms, which could be a deal breaker for some of you new campers out there.

Still, there are some very small travel trailers that  do  have bathrooms and I put together a list of my favorite here . The smallest of these is only 14′ so if you want to go small but don’t want to skip the bathroom check out that list.

However, teardrops are amazing little trailers and are so easy to tow! Their kitchens are often high-tech and amazing to have while camping, and I can’t think of a better trailer to bring along on short road trips or wonderful weather outings. If you’re not afraid to snuggle up, a teardrop trailer may be a perfect choice for you and your partner!

Pop-Up Travel Trailers

Unconcerned about the elements and looking for the best of both worlds when it comes to trailer towing? How about a pop-up travel trailer , which brings the best of towing, size, and budget to you?!

Pop-up trailers are inconspicuous at first, residing inside a flat, easily towable frame. When you arrive at camp, the canvas sides can pop up to create your camper, much larger than teardrops and lighter weight than toy haulers or classic travel trailers. It is a perfect combo of RV and tent and is recommended primarily for camping where the weather is nice.

Some pop-ups even have more rigid sides to their tents in order to better your experience if camping in a colder climate. Given the extra interior space, some pop-ups include bathrooms and living spaces, and usually, always have a kitchen. This may make pop-ups a good fit for you and your partner.

How Much Space Should Travel Trailers For Couples Have?

This may be the trickiest question you and your significant other must answer before purchasing a travel trailer: how much space do the two of us need to comfortably enjoy our time in our new travel trailer? This is a question only the two of you can answer together, but there are some things to consider before making your final decision.

The most important thing lending to your comfortability in a travel trailer is the layout of the space . The options are endless in terms of layouts in classic travel trailers, but you will find yourself much more limited once you look into the layouts of teardrops or pop-ups. Size matters, and you may find that the best way for you and your partner to be comfortable is to have a bigger rig.

Another thing to consider if you’re trying to save space without sacrificing comfort is how long you plan to stay in your trailer . Are you only buying a travel trailer for weekend camping trips? Or are you planning a long cross-country road trip ? Or even more insane (like me), are you hoping to live in your travel trailer full-time!? This may affect your ultimate decision on how much space you feel the two of you need.

One last thing when it comes to space saving is packing less . No matter how long you plan on staying in your travel trailer, the amount of stuff you bring with you affects how much living space you will have. A trailer’s layout can even be negatively affected if you bring too much stuff! Keep your packing light, even when you’re hoping to stay prepared.

Tips For Couples Living In A Travel Trailer

Whether it’s a long and planned road trip or a quick weekend away, there are always stressors involved with towing and living in a travel trailer. Here are some easy and quick tips so you and your partner can enjoy your time in your new travel trailer!

Make A Packing List

It’s so stressful to forget something before going camping, and a travel trailer may have a more involved packing list than you’re used to! Take the time to make a packing list together before heading out. But remember, space is limited, so try to pack everything neatly!

Choose To Spend Time Together And Apart

This has been the most valuable thing I’ve learned living in a trailer with my partner. When space is limited inside, it’s tough to not always feel on top of each other. Take the time to go on a walk on your own, or carve out a portion of the day for doing separate activities if you find the trailer too cramped!

Practice Driving With The Travel Trailer

Driving a travel trailer can be a very stressful situation, let alone backing in and parking the thing! Practice this with your partner before you hit the road. Hand signals are amazing when backing in a trailer, and usually lead to less shouting at one another once you reach camp (take it from my experience)!

8 Best Travel Trailers For Couples

So you’re feeling comfortable being in close quarters with your partner and know what the two of you are looking for? Here comes the best part: shopping for your new trailer! If you’re not up for renovating a vintage rig (like me and my insane partner), here are some of the best travel trailers for couples on the market.

Best Classic Travel Trailer for Couples: Micro Minnie 1708FB by Winnebago

micro winnie for couples

  • MSRP : From $37,182 USD
  • Exterior Length : 19′ 5″ – 22′ 5″
  • Exterior Height : 10′ 5″

A mainstay and a family name, Winnebago has been regarded as one of the best in the RV business for quite some time. They aren’t reinventing the travel trailer wheel, but the Micro Minnie 1708FB is a comfortable classic I know me and my partner would enjoy, all with an affordable price tag!

I like that this is a relatively affordable option as RVing costs plenty already! There are also 10 floor plans to choose from ranging in size from 19 feet to 25 feet if the Micro Minnie plan doesn’t tick all the boxes. No matter what, these trailers remain lightweight, easy to tow, and comfortable inside; ideal for keeping couples happy on the road.

Winnebago has thought about where to place windows for the best cross breezes, as well as keeping the kitchen and living area open, which helps keep the space light and breezy. When I’m parked in a stunning spot in the wilderness, I like to spend more time outside my trailer than in it! This Winnebago takes things up a new level as it comes standard with  patio speakers, a motorized awning, and slick LED lighting at the touch of a button.

The additional exterior storage means it’s easy to get packed away and move onto a new spot. Since the Micro Minnie’s dry weight is just over 3,000 pounds, it’s a lightweight rig, but will likely still require a sizeable towing vehicle.

The price on this trailer can’t be beaten, and it’s definitely one of, if not THE most budget-friendly RV on this list. If you’re hoping to start your travel trailer journey with tradition and budget in mind, the Micro Minnie is perfect for you and your significant other!

Best Toy Hauler for Couples: The Quicksilver VRV XTR 614 by Livin’ Lite

quick silver for couples

  • MSRP : From $25,769 USD
  • Exterior Length : 19′ 1″ – 33′ 9″
  • Exterior Height : 10′

I didn’t even know toy haulers could be made so small until I found Livin’ Lite’s designs. The Quicksilver VRV XTR 614 is an impressive travel trailer, as is the entire Livin’ Lite line. They all boast an anti-rust aluminum frame, which means these toy haulers are lightweight and built to last many generations.

The VRV XTR 614 is only 2,300 pounds and can haul two adult ATVs, perfect for the adventurous pair! It may start off a bit spartan in its layout, but Livin’ Lite leaves the specifications up to the RVer, with loads of add-ons. Some of these include a dry bath, outdoor entertainment, a screened-in back ramp, and uniquely designed fold-up furniture.

The other great thing about Livin’ Lite’s customizable design is the ability to have many different sleeping options. Even though it’s just me and my partner, I like the option to design the trailer with up to two tip-out bunks, leaving us with extra space for when friends and family meet up with us on the road.

Finding a toy hauler at just over 19 feet long means this trailer isn’t too intimidating to tow, yet still offers couples plenty of space to live and travel comfortably in each other’s company. The only downside for me is the price tag, as it’s pretty high, especially for those wanting to customize lots of features. However, it may be worth the investment for two adventurers looking for a lightweight option with many different layouts and trailer types available!

Best Teardrop Trailer: The Classic Teardrop Trailer by Timberleaf

classic tear drop

  • MSRP : From $24,150 USD
  • Exterior Length : 14′
  • Exterior Height : 5′ 5″

The name itself can’t be beaten when it comes to teardrop trailers, and Timberleaf knows teardrops like no other. Their Classic model is everything I can imagine a teardrop trailer to be, with even more customizable options than I thought possible in such a small space! It’s also attractive, which can be hard to find with RVs, as they are commonly kinda ugly!

Coming in at 1,500 pounds dry, this little guy can be towed by almost any standard vehicle.  However, I think the main perk of ordering a Timberleaf trailer is their attention to the suspension. The Classic Teardrop can come in 3 different suspensions, varying depending on the expected level of adventure. I love that there’s even a totally off-road option, as there’s no better feeling for me, than being able to park alone in nature, away from distractions and the stress that often comes with city life!

There’s no bathroom with this teardrop, but there is an amazing kitchen off the back. Fully customizable, the galley is a stunner and there’s no sacrifice in terms of comfort (except I must admit, a dishwasher!). The interior itself is clean and fits a queen bed which is perfect for couples. It includes tons of storage so that both parties don’t have to worry about bringing too much.

The best part of the Classic Teardrop for me has got to be its large skylight over the bed. Bringing the outdoors in, this skylight is the biggest offered in the teardrop industry, and I couldn’t even imagine how beautiful the night sky looks through it. What better way to feel romantic than that!?

Best Pop-Up Trailer for Couples: The Cricket by Taxa Outdoors

cricket trailer

  • MSRP : From $38,543 USD
  • Exterior Length : 15′
  • Exterior Height : 6′ 11″

I have to start off by saying that this is not your typical pop-up trailer. In fact, this little guy is the most unique trailer on this list fulfilling a classic category! The Cricket pop-up travel trailer by Taxa Outdoors is made for adventurers, outdoor enthusiasts, and designers. How can it please all of these types of people? Through one-of-a-kind building and design.

First off, this little guy is tiny: it’s only 15 feet long and less than 7 feet across and weighs 1,700 pounds dry. Can you believe that!? While there are countless non-standard features, the Cricket comes built out with a full bed, kitchen, and loads of storage for such a small space. It also has an included cafe table, a standard entry door, and a back hatch that opens, allowing even more of the outside in, which is something I love to see with trailers.

The roof pops up, as is the way of the pop-up travel trailers, allowing an extra 3 feet of headroom and windows! These little guys can also come with a portable toilet, outdoor shower, and awnings to make the most of the outdoor camping experience . I like the additional option of roof racks, as these are ideal for holding adventure gear, but these aren’t part of the standard package.

What else can be said about Cricket, besides its eye-catching good looks? It may be at the higher end of the budget and be a bit too unique for the average camper, but if you and your partner are up for the challenge, this little pop-up might be exactly what you’ve been searching for. I think it’s potentially one of the best travel trailers for couples, especially those seeking more immersion in nature.

Best Overall: R-pod RP-180 by Forest River

rpod trailer

  • MSRP : From $25,503 USD
  • Exterior Length : 20′
  • Exterior Height : 9′ 7″

As an Oregon state camp host, I see these little R-pod trailers everywhere. Ranging in size from 17 feet to 20 feet, r-pod trailers are all the rage right now. I can’t help but wonder why, and now I know. Forest River has been in the business a long time, and they know what RVers are looking for, especially couples camping!

The R-pod RP-180 is the smallest trailer of this model that still comes with a bathroom. I had no idea how lightweight they could be, coming in at under 3,000 pounds dry! 18 feet shouldn’t be too difficult to control on the road, and you’re getting every amenity you need for you and your significant other. However, there are around 11 different floor plans to choose from, most all very lightweight and easy to tow.

With a powder-coated steel frame able to resist corrosion, this trailer requires little to no maintenance, but I’d still advise winterizing over the cold period! It can also be designed and ordered with many upgrades such as an entertainment system, solar panels, and even a screened-in awning. This is a game-changer for me, as I love to spend as much time as possible outside, but this can be difficult if the sun is beaming down or it’s raining.

With an awning, one easy-to-operate slide-out, and boasting tons of interior and exterior storage, this trailer is a comfortable camper for exciting cross-country road trips for couples. Even if you’re simply camping for the weekend, this R-pod has everything needed to provide a cozy space to enjoy the great outdoors, all on a relatively affordable budget!

Best Mid-Range Option: Sunset Park RV Sunray 149

  • MSRP : From $26,849 USD
  • Exterior Length : 16′ 2″
  • Exterior Height : 9′

Built on a powder-coated steel chassis, the Sunset Park RV Sunray 149 , is a travel trailer well-suited to couples, offering an immaculate blend of durability and comfort. This trailer comes in at a relatively mid-range price, yet somehow doesn’t lack any features. There’s even a 100W solar kit installed to make off-gridding possible for a few days, so you and your special someone can enjoy some time under the stars together.

With a portable speaker and LED lights, it isn’t hard to create an ambient mood in the Sunray 149, and with several color choices, it’s possible to create the aesthetic you and your partner want. I’ve mentioned before how much I love to camp out in nature, and the option of adding off-road tires to this trailer makes this even more possible – just try and avoid dry rotting!

The roof rack has a 500-pound capacity alone, so there’s no need to leave adventure gear behind – couples can bring along whatever equipment they want, without having to worry about making the interior space of the camper feel cramped, messy, or disorganized.

Although there are several different floor plans available with the Sunray, I chose to add the 149 to our list of the best travel trailers for couples as it includes a toilet! Not everyone is happy to grab a shovel and head into the woods, and bathroom time in an RV can be awkward and tricky to navigate. Having a private space to go to the restroom helps make everyone feel comfortable, especially if you’re a couple in the early stages of a relationship!

Best Luxury Teardrop Trailer For Couples: Nucamp TAB 320 S

Tab Camper

  • MSRP : From $41,615 USD
  • Exterior Length : 15′ 3″
  • Exterior Height : 7’8″

There are plenty of reasons why this Nucamp TAB 320 S is our best luxury travel trailer option, not just the high price tag! This trailer definitely isn’t a budget-friendly travel trailer option for couples, but it is jam-packed full of high-end finishes and detailing to make any RVers feel like they’re in a sleek, modern, space, such as the deluxe Ohio-Amish cabinetry and glass top stove that acts as additional countertop space when the stove isn’t in use.

The galley kitchen is surprisingly sizeable, and the U-shape dinette cleverly converts into a spacious bed when it’s time to rest after a long day of hiking in a forest or bathing in natural pools. I like the full wet bath, and can’t believe Nucamp managed to fit so much in such a small space!

I travel in my trailer no matter the weather. Even if it’s scorching or freezing outside, I’ll be in my trailer, hunkering down somewhere! This can get hard, especially when camping in summer , so the central air conditioning and power roof fan are game-changers that will definitely make for happier couples on the road!

The only downside to this trailer in my eyes is the price. But with such a modern aesthetic, classic teardrop shape, and abundance of features, you do get a lot for your money with the Nucamp TAB 320 S, making it hard to resist this luxury!

Smallest Travel Trailer For Couples: Happier Campers HC1 Studio

lightweight travel trailers for couples

  • MSRP : From $39,950 USD
  • Exterior Length : 13′ 5″
  • Exterior Height : 7’9″

It was hard to pick a title for this travel trailer, as it’s one of the most innovative creations I’ve seen in the RV trailer world, but it’s also the smallest option on our list! Don’t be put off by the humble size of this Happier Campers HC1 Studio trailer , however, because with a queen size bed, bathroom, and kitchenette, it still has everything needed to be one of the best travel trailer options for couples out there!

Now, let’s get into the sheer innovative masterpiece that is the Happier Campers signature Adaptiv modular system with a unique rear hatch. Beyond the bathroom is a space that can be configured in whatever way suits you best at that time, whether it be a dining area, lounge space, or comfy queen-size bed – all it takes is a bit of reshuffling, and voila !

I can picture how perfect the rear hatch would be at a beach-side location, where the salty ocean breeze can dance through the trailer. The rear hatch is such a wonderful feature in this camper, and it truly brings a new meaning to bringing the outdoors in, as a new sheltered space is effectively gained through opening the hatch, as shown in the video below:

This Happier Campers HC1 Studio has d-rings and tie-downs for transporting items securely, which is one of my golden rules for towing any vehicle safely.  With a 17-gallon fresh and 17-gallon gray water tank, the HC1 holds a substantial amount of water, however, this may not be enough for several days off-grid in the mountains, so I’d advise bringing another container along just in case!

Finding the best travel trailer for couples is a big task, but hopefully, our list has brought some clarity with exactly what you and your partner need from a travel trailer. My biggest piece of advice would be to practice towing, know how much you can fit, and bring a nice bottle of wine as a treat after you’ve finished setting up camp! The two of you can only grow closer with a travel trailer in your life.

  • RV Trailers and Motorhomes

Relaxing with family and friends while enjoying all the amenities of a home is why a good travel trailer makes RV outings so special. Add in the ability to tow one with a vehicle that’s likely already in your driveway—plus the opportunity to drop the trailer at the campsite and use the tow vehicle to explore the surrounding area—and it’s easy to see why the popularity in lightweight travel trailers has been at an all-time high for the past few years.

The Year Ahead

According to the RV Industry Association (RVIA), more than 60 million Americans are expected to take to the highways, byways, and backroads in the coming year, all in an RV of some type. About one in five of those doing so towing a travel trailer.

“Travelers continue to choose RVing as a top travel option because of its affordability and ability to bring family and friends closer together,” said RVIA President & CEO Craig Kirby. “Our research shows that consumer interest in living an active outdoor lifestyle remains strong, and there are RVs available at every price point for consumers eager to get outdoors.”

Why are Lightweight Travel Trailers So Popular?

Travel trailers with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 6,500 pounds or less are especially popular because they are considered lightweight travel trailers and are easily towable by half-ton pickups and full-size SUVs. They can also be towed by properly equipped vans, mid-size pickups, and smaller SUVs, making it simple to plan your RV trip , whether months in advance or the week before your vacation.

There are more than 50 brands of travel trailers, and within those brands are dozens of lightweight travel trailers that have a multitude of floorplans, amenities and options to suit different lifestyles. This can make choosing the perfect lightweight travel trailers for your camping needs a little mind boggling, so we’re highlighting 10 of the best lightweight travel trailers of 2024 (in alphabetical order) to help you find your perfect RV.

Russia's Nuclear Deterrent Command Center Imperiled by Winter Freeze—Report

A Russian nuclear deterrent command center in Moscow has been imperiled by power outages that have impacted more than one-quarter of the region's cities amid freezing temperatures, a Russian Telegram channel has reported.

The VChK-OGPU outlet, which purports to have inside information from Russian security forces, reported that the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings—part of the Russian Space Forces, a branch of the country's Aerospace Forces—near Solnechnogorsk in Moscow is without power.

It serves as the space forces early warning network against potential ballistic missile attacks.

The development comes as Russians are reported to be suffering from power outages in their homes in the Moscow region caused by technical issues at plants amid subzero temperatures.

On January 4, a heating main burst at the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant in the town of Podolsk, which is about 30 miles south of central Moscow. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians are reported to have no heating in their homes.

Affected areas include the cities of Khimki, Balashikha, Lobnya, Lyubertsy, Podolsk, Chekhov and Naro-Fominsk, a map published by a Russian Telegram channel and shared on other social media sites shows.

Other Russian media outlets reported that in Moscow, residents of Balashikha, Elektrostal, Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Troitsk, Taldom, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Krasnogorsk, Pushkino, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Losino-Petrovsky and Selyatino are also without power.

The Telegram channel said that at the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings, "the crew...is on duty around the clock."

"It is here that the decision on a retaliatory nuclear strike is executed," the channel said.

Newsweek could not independently verify the report and has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry by email for comment.

Power outages have also been reported in Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, in the country's western Voronezh region, in the southwest city of Volgograd, and in Rostov, which borders Ukraine, a country that Russia has been at war with since February 24, 2022.

On Sunday, two shopping malls in St. Petersburg were forced to close because of problems with light and heating, reported local news outlet 78.ru. Hundreds of other homes in the city have had no electricity, water or heating for days amid temperatures of -25 C (-13 F).

Russian authorities have also been forced to compensate passengers of a train that ran from Samara to St. Petersburg (a 20-hour journey) without heating during -30 C (-22 F) temperatures. Videos circulating on social media showed carriage windows frozen over. A passenger also said the toilet didn't work during the trip because of frozen pipes.
