I love my Quince linen blazer ~ I use it for work, casual evenings out when I need an extra layer, and even brought it with me to Kenya! It’s so versatile.

Nordstrom has to be one of the best overall go to stores for solid staples in women’s travel wear. Tommy Bahama for me.

Susan Kayden

I have a Zara linen blazer in Taupe that I love. I wear it on planes, with a skirt to work meetings, with jeans. So comfortable and always adds some polish to whatever I’m wearing.

Deanna Debrecht

I have the Tommy Bahama jacket and the Old Navy one – both are fantastic summer jackets! Linen jackets are great for warm weather when I want to wear a layer but still need to be comfortable in our steamy NC summers 🙂

Madeline Michael

I’m addicted to blazers! I don’t often pack them while traveling, though. I should start!

I love these options, but how do people manage to avoid turning their linen blazers into a complete wrinkle disaster? I can’t imagine how I would keep a linen blazer looking somewhat presentable after traveling! 😄

Teresa Lloyd

I have the very same problem!!! I love my Jones & Co. linen (jean jacket like) navy blue jacket. It goes with everything, is lightweight and looks great…except when it is very wrinkly!! How do you stop the “complete wrinkle disaster”?!?!?!?

I LOVE this!!! Thank you for sharing.

Carol Lang

Love linen but not the wrinkled, messy look after removing it from my suitcase!

Robin Lord-Haas

I have had good success with recommendations from tholis community!

The best travel blazer for digital nomads on our list is Haggar Men’s Smart Wash Performance Blazer

  • Material: polyester/wool
  • Best Use: travel/business
  • Weight: Mediumweight
  • Security Pocket: yes

As a digital nomad, you make your living on the road. But not being tied down to an office doesn’t mean you don’t need to have smart apparel on hand to pull off a snazzy business look should the need arise. The Haggar Men’s Smart Wash Performance Blazer looks sharp and professional while catering to the needs of a nomadic lifestyle.

The fact that it’s low maintenance is a huge selling point. The polyester/wool blend packs down easily and makes it resistant to stains and wrinkles – meaning you won’t find yourself needing to make frequent trips to the dry cleaners. The elegant navy color pairs well with anything from jeans to slacks. It adds just the right amount of chic to any outfit for business or pleasure.

You’ll have plenty of space to carry your mobile phone and other personal items, with a button-tab pocket and two interior utility pockets. Stash valuable items that you don’t want to lose safely in the zippered interior security pocket.

Plus, there are three exterior pockets, so you won’t have any trouble carrying around all your business and travel gadgets everywhere you go. If you’re willing to splurge a bit for a high-quality, versatile travel blazer you’ll feel comfortable doing business in, it’s worth the money.

  • Lots of storage
  • Made of durable, hassle-free fabric
  • Dry clean only

Mogu Mens Blazer Slim Fit Sport Coat

Top pick for best travel blazer for music festivals is Mogu Men’s Blazer Slim Fit Sport Coat

  • Material: cotton/polyester
  • Best Use: travel/party
  • Weight: lightweight
  • Security Pocket: no

Who said you have to go to a formal or business event to wear a spiffy blazer? You can also use a travel blazer to make a statement and have some fun. If your travels involve a music festival where psychedelic experiences are likely to ensue, spice things up by sporting a turquoise, lemon yellow, or hot pink blazer.

If those colors don’t appeal to you, not to worry; there are 22 to choose from. If you have your heart set on a green or orange blazer, those are available too! You can have any color under the sun with this slim-fit sport coat. If the music festival you’re attending is slightly more subdued – say a classical music festival – there are less flashy colors available, like black or navy blue.

Not only can you use this travel sport coat at music festivals, but it can easily be reused during any other part of your trip; because of its slim fit, it pairs well with t-shirts, shorts or pants, and a dress shirt. Depending on how crazy you want to get with the color, you’ll likely find a variety of occasions to add this lightweight travel blazer to other outfits. And – depending on your destination – wearing a burgundy or pink blazer on a regular night out may just fit in with the latest fashion trends.

  • Available in 22 colors
  • Has 2 small sizes so can also fit younger, middle school-aged students
  • Budget-friendly
  • Very slim fit may be restricting for stockier builds
  • Chest pocket isn’t a real pocket

COOFANDY Mens Casual Suit Blazer

COOFANDY Men’s Casual Suit Blazer is one of the best travel blazer for backpacking europe

  • Best Use: travel
  • Security Pocket? yes

While we respect the typical backpacker’s desire for comfort and utility, we highly recommend having at least one fashionable outfit on hand if you’re backpacking through Europe. Some of the world’s most fashionable cities are found in Europe – Milan, Paris , London, to name a few – and, overall, sloppy-looking clothing is not the European way.

While you don’t have to look runway ready to fit in, sticking out as a “typical tourist” isn’t advised. Not only does it make you a target for opportunistic pickpockets searching for unsuspecting outsiders, but it may keep you from access to higher-end or trendy hotspots that you’d like to check out. Europe has tons of cultural offerings – from super casual to more refined – and you’ll want to be aptly prepared.

This casual sport coat is the best travel blazer for backpacking Europe because it looks stylish and polished without breaking the bank. It’s also practical, with a real chest pocket, two front flap pockets, and an inside pocket to stash away more important items.

It’s lightweight and minimalist, so it will easily pair with jeans, a simple tee, and casual shoes. It adds just enough style to give you that little bit of pizazz you need for any venue or event you encounter on your European travels.

  • Inexpensive
  • Lightweight and versatile enough to pair with all clothing
  • Looks higher quality than it is
  • Needs to be drycleaned
  • Thinner than an average sportscoat due to quality of material

  • Works for travel and casual business needs

Paul Fredrick Mens Classic Fit Wool Travel Blazer

Meet the best classic wool travel blazer: Paul Fredrick Men’s Classic Fit Wool Travel Blazer

  • Material: wool
  • Best Use: travel/formal event
  • Weight: year-round

If you’re looking for the most wrinkle and stain-resistant fabric for your ideal travel blazer, then wool is the way to go. Made of 100% wool, this two-button blazer will suit all your travel needs without needing much cleaning and maintenance while on the road.

It definitely fits the bill for a more classic, refined look that can be worn in all seasons. Wool is great because the fibers naturally help you regulate your temperature. It’s breathable like cotton, making it comfortable in warmer weather. It’s also insulating, so this travel blazer will also keep you warm in colder temperatures. If you’re a frequent traveler year-round – whether for business or pleasure – a wool travel blazer is worth considering.

If you’re on the lookout for a classically styled blazer for traditional events like a wedding, a formal dinner party, or important business travel, this is a solid choice. It’s available in five classic colors – one of which is a marine blue if you want to spice up the color.

Another bonus is that the Paul Fredrick travel blazer is as practical as it is timeless. There are two front flap pockets and four inside pockets, giving you plenty of space for travel documents and personal accessories. If you travel a lot in all types of weather, this wool travel sport coat is a winner.

  • Made of 100% wool that is odor, wrinkle, and stain resistant
  • Great value for money
  • Stocked with pockets

The distressed brown leather is a classic color that pairs well with anything. It’s easy to dress up for more elegant events or business or keep casual for daytime excursions.

For an all-around classically cool travel blazer, this one won’t disappoint.

  • Made of 100% leather
  • Value for money

Now, you  could spend a fat chunk of $$$ on the WRONG present for someone. Wrong size hiking boots, wrong fit backpack, wrong shape sleeping bag… As any adventurer will tell you, gear is a personal choice.

So give the adventurer in your life the gift of convenience: buy them an REI Co-op gift card!  REI is The Broke Backpacker’s retailer of choice for ALL things outdoors, and an REI gift card is the perfect present you can buy from them. And then you won’t have to keep the receipt. 😉

While we believe that the best travel sports coat choices we’ve presented above cover pretty much any traveler for any purpose, you may choose to keep looking around for a lightweight travel blazer that suits you better. If you do, we’d like to give you these things to consider to help you choose the best men’s travel blazer when doing your shopping research.

One of the main things to figure out is what material is best for the travel blazer for you –  depending on your needs and travel style. If your priority is low-maintenance in terms of washing, wool may be your best bet.

Wool is the most ready-to-wear as it requires the least amount of washing due to its natural odor, stain, and wrinkle-resistant properties. Just keep in mind that a wool travel blazer will need to be dry cleaned.

merino wool

If you want to avoid dry cleaning completely, nylon is a better choice. Nylon is extremely resilient, making it a good choice for more rugged conditions. It’s not the typical material you’ll find in more traditional blazers, and it’s probably a material you think of for windbreaker or rain jackets. Because it’s water-resistant, finding garments for travel outerwear is helpful for unpredictable weather or for more versatile use.

Then there’s polyester. Polyester is a very lightweight, quick-drying material that is very wear-resistant, which is why it’s what most sports clothing is made of. It’s usually not considered the most high-quality material for more formal wear, but it’s the material of choice for keeping the costs of items lower. If you’re looking for the most inexpensive travel blazer possible, polyester will be your best bet.

A good question to always ask yourself when shopping around for the best travel blazer is: how much do you want to spend? Thin materials – like polyester and cotton blends – will be the cheapest. For a lower price, you’ll likely have to sacrifice more advanced features like ample pocket space, zipper pockets, and quality.

If you want your travel blazer to be long-lasting and have all the bells and whistles of a top-notch travel garment, consider investing more money. A higher-quality travel sports coat will cost you more, but if you intend to use it for a long time, it will be worth the upfront investment.

Consider what you need a travel blazer for. Is it a one-off purchase to wear to a music festival, or is it a blazer you intend to use for business trips on the road? For a more professional function, you’ll want to carefully consider how the blazer looks – making sure it doesn’t look too “cheap” or ill-fitting.

men travel blazer

If it’s to look good out on the town, you can choose a less traditional style. It should look sharp but could have a more vintage look or an edgier look. If it’s a travel blazer you intend for many nights out on the town in many different cities worldwide, consider paying more for the one you like best.

If it’s for one or two nights out for a specific trip, you probably don’t need to worry as much about the quality and durability of your chosen travel blazer.

Pockets and Storage

How important are pockets and storage space to you? If you like to travel with your travel documents and personal accessories on you at all times, be sure that your travel blazer selection has ample pockets. An inside security pocket is highly recommended for stashing away more valuable belongings.

Packability

Since this garment is meant to serve you well during travel, you need to check out how well the garment packs away. Is it bulky, and will it take up a lot of space, or does it fold down compactly? Does it pack well if it’s folded up, or will it arrive a wrinkled mess if it isn’t packed in a certain way – like on a hanger in a garment bag? For business travelers, this might be okay.

linen travel blazer

Keep in mind that if you’re a backpacker, your travel blazer will be tucked into a compact pack with a bunch of other items where space is limited. You’ll be better off choosing a travel blazer that packs down easily and is as wrinkle-resistant as possible.

Keeping your garments low-maintenance will help make your travels much easier and hassle-free – especially if you’re staying in hostels, as most don’t offer services that involve an iron or clothes steamer!

Still have some questions? No problem! We’ve listed and answered the most commonly asked questions below. Here’s what people usually want to know:

Men’s travel blazers provide style and function throughout your trip, not just in transit. Anytime you are away from home, you tend to carry more stuff around. Which is why you’ll be glad to have three to five extra pockets on you. You can’t always predict weather in your final destination, so having an extra versatile layer comes in handy. The best advice for any travel is to be prepared for the unexpected, so having a semi-formal jacket on hand is always clutch.

What really sets men’s travel blazers apart from traditional jackets are fabrics and construction designed for comfort and wrinkle resistance. Instead of traditional suiting wool or chino cotton, you’ll find fabric blends that provide stretch, breathability, and hold their shape. The fits are often cut looser, with seams moved around to allow better range of motion. Whether you wear it during travel or unpack it when you get to your destination, once you’ve experienced the benefits of a men’s travel blazer, you won't leave home without one.

Functionality is key to a great travel blazer, and Relwen has it in spades. The three exterior patch pockets are similar to any casual blazer, but the large interior pocket has a zip closure with a vertical opening for easy access. It is ideal for stashing valuables. On top of that, a discrete snap closure pocket is tucked into the back along the right hand vent.

A four button design plus a throat latch allow you to button all the way up to your neck like a true jacket, while functional buttons on the sleeves allow you to roll them up. That means this blazer covers a very wide range of temperatures.

What impressed us most was the look. At face value, this is a just a great looking cotton blazer, appropriate for work or semi-formal events. All that function is cleverly tucked away in a stylish package.

If you prefer a more traditional sports coat look, then hopsack is the way to go. It is a special type of weave designed to resist wrinkling and enhance breathability. Brooks Brothers has been making hopsack blazers since your grandfather wore them, and they still make one of the best out there. Essentially, this is a classic sport coat built in a light and flexible fabric.

It is fully lined, which is actually great for keeping the shape of the jacket intact. Standard three exterior and two interior pockets provide plenty of cargo space. Double vents allow the jacket to drape comfortably when you sit.

We loved having this traditional look on vacation, because it allowed the rest of our attire to skew even more casual. A proper suit-esque jacket can elevate shorts and a polo with near mystical ability.

This style is also available in a slim fit as well as blue .

Carry it on or wear it, either way, this is one of the most comfortable blazers we've ever worn. Buck Mason, one of our favorite menswear brands , built an unstructured jacket that feels closer to a shirt in the best way. The sleeves are cut like a shirt with a soft shoulder and no buttons on the cuff. No vent was added to the back because honestly the fabric doesn't require one. A three-roll-to-two button button design allows you to wear the front relaxed and open or close it up with a lifted collar.

The fabric was the true standout to us. The cotton with a touch of spandex is incredibly light and flexible, really driving home the shirt-like feel of this jacket. If we had to pick a single jacket on this list to wear on a long flight, the Carry-On would probably be our choice.

So admittedly, Wills doesn't advertise this jacket as a travel blazer, but from our field testing, we found that it definitely performs like one. The key factor is the stretch wool fabric, which is actually 60% wool, 38% polyester, and 2% elastane. That particular blend makes the jacket lighter, softer, and more flexible than a standard wool blazer. Other than that, it is tricked out with all the features you would expect from a traditional blazer.

That said, we recommend reserving this one for travel during colder months. It is still mostly wool, half canvas, and fully lined, which is great when you need a light outer layer for brisk weather. The bottom line is that we loved this blazer for the traditional look and we were pleasantly surprised by the comfort on the go.

For those trips that require you to look your best - be it business or pleasure—you need a travel blazer that looks like a proper suit. Fortunately, Charles Tyrwhitt has you covered with the Proper Blazer. A strong shoulder, eloquent pocket design, and kissing cuff buttons all portray classic tailoring. So what makes this a great travel blazer? A combination of the fabric and the interior design.

Charles Tyrwhitt uses a loose basket weave wool that adds breathability and flexibility while fighting off wrinkles. The interior is only half lined and features a front panel canvas, which means the back is only a single layer of fabric. So you have less weight and more ventilation.

We wore this blazer with a hoodie and jeans on the way to a wedding. Then we outfitted it with a shirt, tie, and pinstripe slacks and nailed the "formal attire" dress code.

Haggar went with a tried and true classic here. A patch pocket sport coat in stretch cotton chino is the fundamental travel blazer. There is no lining, canvas, or vent because there doesn't need to be. The cotton is sturdy enough to hold its shape, with just enough stretch to move with you. A boxy shoulder makes more free range of motion. Three patch pockets provide easy access.

Honestly, the feature that impressed us the most here is the price. A well built causal chino blazer for under $100 is a steal. We've tried our fair share of similar jackets that cost much more, and the Smart Wash Performance Blazer more than holds its own.

There are few looks more elegant than a pinstripe blazer. Todd Snyder created one that is actually part of a suit but we argue works even better solo. The 100% linen fabric is breezy and leaves you unencumbered. A partial and vented lining provides just enough structure without limited any flexibility. Large patch pockets allow for easy carrying.

What really sold us on this blazer is the overall look. The indigo blue pops, especially in sunlight. We wore it with linen trousers and a t-shirt on vacation and felt like billionaire going low-key. It matches perfectly with jeans and loafers . You can even make a proper suit out of it if you get the matching pants.

Lulelemon's put their signature touch on the travel blazer. We have to start with the fabric, which lives up to the brand's reputation as unbelievably soft and stretchy. With snaps instead of buttons and side vent pockets, there is inspiration from a coach's jacket here. Where there isn't much pocket space, the comfort factor more than makes up for it.

More Travel Blazers that We Love

line break

In an effort to max out comfort, Faherty made a blazer out of a stretch jersey knit. This is seriously the most comfortable blazer we've ever worn. However, it comes off more like a cardigan-blazer hybrid, which we think is the point. You could just as comfortably lounge around the house as travel the world in this blazer.

For year now, J.Crew's cotton-linen chino suit jacket has been in regular rotation for us at the office and pretty much everywhere else. This blazer embodies the idea that if you nail the simple things, you can't go wrong. Three exterior and one interior pockets are all large, allowing for plenty of cargo space. The fabric is super soft and has plenty of give. Best of all, it just goes with everything.

Emporio Armani Techno Jersey Blazer

Techno Jersey Blazer

Armani is famous for top-of-the line suiting, but its take on the travel blazer is a complete reinvention. The fabric is a unique blend of polyamide and elastane that feels more like workout gear than a suit. Cuff buttons were removed from the sleeves and the chest pocket is gone too. There are exterior pockets, but with vented openings and no flap. No canvas, no vents, and hardly any lining make for a featherweight feel.

We loved the sleek, high fashion appearance that you would expect from Armani. However, the ridiculously comfortable feel of this blazer stole the show. Think of a track jacket mixed with your favorite cardigan sweater, and you're getting close to how cozy this blazer is. It is the blazer equivalent of flying first class—in look, feel, and price.

Richard James Navy Spirit Slim-Fit Wool-Hopsack Blazer

Navy Spirit Slim-Fit Wool-Hopsack Blazer

Richard James makes a gorgeous hopsack blazer. An unlined back allows the jacket to breathe and your body to move easily. Classic horn buttons and a wider lapel make for a more formal look. We loved the supple feel of this high end hopsack wool.

Reiss Kin Two-Button Blazer

Kin Two-Button Blazer

Reiss built a blazer out of 100% viscose fabric, and we're absolutely here for it. The material that you usually find in aloha shirts, makes for a super lightweight and soft jacket. Thanks to the pearly white color, this is the perfect beach vacation jacket.

Mr. P Garment Dyed Cotton-Twill Blazer

Garment Dyed Cotton-Twill Blazer

Mr. Porter offers a luxe version of the patch pocket chino blazer from its in-house brand. While the blazer-meets- chore coat look is similar to other brands out there, the fabric really set this one apart for us. We loved how soft it felt and the slightly boxy fit made for great layering.

Original Madras Trading Co. Madras Check Unlined Sport Coat

Madras Check Unlined Sport Coat

Everything that we love about madras shirts is on full display with this madras blazer. The fabric is soft, breathable, and vibrantly colorful. This jacket got compliments literally everywhere we wore it, from the bar to a wedding.

You don’t necessarily need to wear a travel blazer while traveling to your destination but it will certainly come in handy when you get there. Two great travel tips are to always have lots of pocket space available, and always be prepared for unexpected weather. Not only will you look more stylish, you’ll be able to stash any items you accumulate along the way. If the weather turns, you can button up and even flip up that collar.

How Do You Wear a Travel Blazer?

Think of your travel blazer more like a lightweight jacket. Any blazer in a dark, neutral color or simple pattern can go on top of pretty much any outfit. Whether you wear a button down shirt or a hoodie, throwing a blazer over it instantly levels up your look. Alas, we tend to not use the pockets of suits or formal blazers very often, but you should utilize all the pocket space of travel blazers.

What Is the Best Material for Men's Travel Blazers?

Comfort is key here. Men’s travel blazers are built to look like traditional blazers, while providing the feel and function of athletic outerwear. You can go the traditional route with linen or cotton hopsack, linen actually looks better with a little rumple to it and hopsack is the original anti-wrinkle fabric. Or you can go the modern route with tech fabrics that are stretchy and breathable, often woven in with wool or cotton.

The best travel wardrobes hinge on a few pieces of gear that work everywhere for every occasion. When you’re ready to take your travel style to the next level, invest in a great travel blazer and you’ll be wearing it on adventures for years to come.

Every now and then you find a piece of travel gear or clothing that’s so useful and versatile it can change the way you travel. A good belt, the right merino t-shirt, battery case for your phone, stretchy travel pants, and even a good pair of packable shoes are all straight up game changers once you cross the Rubicon and embrace something that might not be in your typical travel wheelhouse. Recently, a travel blazer has joined my list of oddly useful, good-for-every-trip, must-have packing items for my travel backpack .

Carry-On-Sized Travel Backpacks

Pack for trips of one week or more without checking a bag.

  • Thick comfortable straps
  • Easy to organize
  • Durable, waterproof fabric

Whether you frequently travel for work, are on your way to a wedding, or simply want to see a new destination, a travel-ready blazer is a great addition to your packing list . Unlike the blazers you wear every day, a travel blazer is wrinkle-resistant, breathable, lightweight, and machine washable, so it can look good throughout your entire trip (no expensive, overnight dry-cleaning required). Below are our picks for the best men’s travel blazers, as well as tips on how to pack them.

Best travel blazers for men

The Best Men’s Travel Blazers

Bluffworks Gramercy Slim Fit Travel Blazer review

Bluffworks Gramercy (Slim Fit) Travel Blazer  ($295)

If you’ve read anything else I’ve written about travel clothing , it’s no secret that I’m a big Bluffworks fan. They make excellent, stylish travel clothing that not only takes an absolute ass kicking on the road, but looks great while it’s doing it. I get comments on my  Bluffworks travel pants  nearly every time I wear them, and the same holds true for the travel blazer.

This  wrinkle-resistant travel blazer  fits great, looks awesome, with all the right stretch and give to take everything from airport lounges to after hour raves. Machine washable (which is a surprisingly rare feature for travel blazers) and super comfortable, thanks to the stretchy polyester, the Bluffworks travel blazer features 10 pockets, many with zippered enclosures, to keep your stuff safe and organized while in transit.

Honestly, one of the best parts of a travel blazer is how it performs in airport security. No more dumping everything in that little tray. Put your phone, wallet, passport , boarding pass, headphones, and even a snack in the pockets and breezing through security looking dapper as heck.

Wear it with:    Give your travel wardrobe a versatile pop of color with the  Bluffworks Harvest Gold tailored fit travel chino pants  ($100) and you’ll always look great.

Alfani Tasso Elba travel blazer review

Alfani Tasso Elba Travel Blazer  ($119)

The Tasso Elba linen blazer from Alfani is a surprisingly lightweight travel blazer perfect for as a pure fashion accessory. Think the Azores, or “lunching” on a sloop with a dude named Bryce. Linen doesn’t pack as well as polyester, wool, or cotton, but it looks great, and won’t weigh you down.

Wear it with:   Bluffworks travel dress shirt ($125) . This lightweight, breezy style blazer pairs well with the clean stylish look of the performance travel shirt from Bluffworks. If the blazer gets wrinkly, whip it over your shoulder and still look like a boss.

Orvis Traveler's hopsack blazer review

Orvis Traveler’s Hopsack Blazer  ($329)

The wool blend fabric makes it great for fighting wrinkles, hiding stains, and resisting odor from a few too many hours on the road. (I’m kind of a wool nerd).

The Orvis buttons are flashy as heck, it’s tailored to look like a “3-roll-2” jacket meaning it has a sweet deep V when you only button the middle button—which is the only way to wear a blazer.

Like the Bluffworks blazer, the Hopsack travel blazer has the right amount of pockets (a button-tab pocket, zippered security pocket,“utility” pockets) making it a great jacket for keeping tickets, passports, and your phone organized, safe and still handy in transit.

Bonus Feature:  The lapel button hole is actually really good for holding your headphone cable and keeping your earbuds organized if you haven’t gone for  bluetooth headphones  yet.

Wool & Prince travel blazer review

Wool & Prince Travel Blazer  ($258)

This might just be peak travel blazer. Wool & Prince hand-picked a blend of Italian merino wool and added 25% nylon for the right amount of stretch—which is perfect for the road. Then they added five pockets to keep your stuff handy without ruining the jacket’s lines.

If you’re looking to upgrade your style on the road (or even at the office), this  travel blazer  is designed for sleek, hassle free travel that will impress. And it comes in regular or long length so you can really dial in your fit.

Wear it with:  Outlier slim dungarees  ($198). This blazer is fashionable enough to wear with jeans or other non “slack” travel pants. I’m a big fan of a the darker Outlier dungarees or a darker wash jean for a rugged clean look.

Travel blazers

Custom-Made Suits and Travel Blazers

Another great option is to get a travel blazer—or even an entire suit—made while you travel. I picked up a tailored three-piece suit in Vietnam for $150 a few years ago. Obviously, prices vary based on the fabric you choose (wool is more pricey, but definitely worth it), but it can be a great way to see if a suit or blazer is right for you.

I’ve upgraded my suit and blazer since those early days, but I really did get a lot of mileage out of that custom suit. There’s really no substitute for a tailor fitted jacket, and it’s nice to get one at an affordable price when you’re traveling. Just make sure you leave a little room for growth—I was a tad underweight when I got the suit made and it didn’t age all that well.

Thailand, Vietnam, China, and India are all known for their  inexpensive tailors .

How to pack a blazer for travel

How to Pack a Blazer for Travel (aka How to Fold a Blazer)

Packing a suit or a travel blazer isn’t hard. It’s just kind of weird. Here’s how you  pack a suit jacket or blazer in a carry on bag :

  • Pull one of the jacket sleeves inside out  (the lining should be facing out—including the shoulder pad).
  • Tuck the other shoulder pad  (the normal one) into the pulled out shoulder pad sleeve.
  • You should only see the lining right now .
  • Lay it down flat in your bag.  It’s ok that it drapes over the outside of your backpack.
  • Fold it in half .
  • You’re done .

The best part about folding a suit jacket or blazer like this is that you can “army fold” a pair of pants in with it, and keep everything wrinkle-free. If you want to add a pair of trousers, just fold them in half, then in half again, and lay them down on the jacket before you fold it up to fit in your bag. You now have a bundle packed suit that won’t wrinkle—even in a carry on backpack .

Travel Blazer Sizing Guide

The whole point of a travel blazer is to have a layer you can wear anytime, to any event. That means it has to fit well, and by that I mean snug where you want it, and comfy where you need it. A floppy mess will make you look like you borrowed your grandpa’s old coat and if it’s too tight… well you’ll look like an idiot. Here’s how to make sure your travel blazer fits well:

Determine your chest measurements

First, determine your chest measurements. You can do this by:

  • Looking in a blazer you already own.
  • Having a professional measure you, such as a tailor or dry cleaner.
  • Measuring yourself using the instructions below:

linen travel blazer

Maintain the same height of the tape measure all the way around your body.

Make the tape measure snug, but not tight when you read the measurement.

Relax your arms (Natural arm stance is slightly bent, never straight) Take measurement in 3 steps:

  • Start at the bone at the top edge of your shoulders down to the elbow
  • Land tape measure slightly back towards the elbow bone
  • Continue down to below the wrist bone for final measurements

linen travel blazer

Every blazer is different but typically blazer sizing follows these general criteria:

  • Small: 35”-37”
  • Medium: 38”-40”
  • Large: 42”-44”
  • Slim Fit: Typically 1” slimmer than a regular cut blazer
  • Long: Typically 1” longer sleeve length than a regular cut blazer (for men over 6’0” tall)

Those aren’t hard fast rules, but they’re a great starting point. To make sure you have your measurements correct, use a cloth measuring tape (not that one in the tool box), and measure your chest at the largest point, or your midsection if that’s a little bigger, then use the largest number. No judgement if your belly is bigger than your chest, you just need to use that as your measurement so that the blazer fits.

To measure your sleeve length, start at the center back of your neck with your arm slightly bent and follow the tape measure around to your wrist bone. If that sounds weird, welcome to the world of tailoring.

I’m a relatively slim, tall guy so I always make sure to get a slim fit (I’ll drop an inch in a regular cut blazer), and get the long sleeve length. Play with your fit until you dial it in, but once you do  write those numbers down . Your accurate measurements are your new social security number. Oh, and always go single breasted. This isn’t a suit jacket, you fancy bastard. Keep it stylish.

Why You Should Pack a Travel Blazer

What a blazer does for your travel gear is weird. No really. When you first start backpacking it’s all about “performance” gear. Zipper toggles and pockets inside of other reinforced pockets. Goretex everything. Then, a strange thing happens: you realize that you’re not spending that much time in the great outdoors.

A large part of modern travel is spent in cities (or on the beach if you’re lucky!) and you just don’t need survival style travel gear for that type of trip. So stop packing it.

Over the years, my wardrobe has gotten smaller while becoming (oddly)  better  for longer trips. And it’s largely due to getting better gear that just does more—like a travel blazer. When you embrace carry on packing you have to up your game with better quality fabrics (i.e. clothing that doesn’t stink or wrinkle after a few days) and outfits that look good in every setting from destination weddings, and co-working spaces, to  pub crawls  “walking” tours.

Fashionable travel isn’t just about looking cool when you’re on the road. It’s about feeling comfortable, traveling well, and getting stuff done—in a carry on bag . Bulky travel jackets can be tough to to pack. They take up a lot of space, wrinkle easily, and the worst part about most travel jackets is that unless there’s terrible weather (or it’s winter), you might go the entire trip without using one of the largest items in your backpack.

Travel blazers are different. They acts as an extra layer for chilly plane rides and windy walks to the coffee shop or that co-working space downtown. But what’s more, you free yourself up to enjoy your trip without a massive coat weighing you down or making you look like you just got back from Everest.

  • Best Linen Blazers

Meet the Fashion Expert

Emma Childs

We are in a new era of workwear dressing. With the adoption of flexible and hybrid schedules, office dress codes have become marginally laxer. Your stiff power suit and pointy pumps collect dust in your closet because you're now reaching for more casual and comfort-driven alternatives (your sweatpants, however, still stay home). Lightweight linen separates, in particular, have become the MVPs in many workwear rotations, as the flax-made material offers impressive breathability and ease. Marie Claire  editors have previously rounded up their favorite linen pants , dresses, and linen suits , but this space is dedicated to the very best linen blazers, as the tailored style epitomizes easy polish.

For summer 2023, luxury brands like Polo Ralph Lauren and Jacquemus offer their takes on the suiting staple, utilizing the season's leading color trends and contemporary silhouettes. Of course, there's also a bevy of must-see options from affordable retailers, with J. Crew, Banana Republic, and Quince leading the charge with their sleek yet subtle blazers that you'll want to add to your summer work outfit rotation ASAP. Ahead, find our picks for the best linen blazers for women and insight from a fashion expert to guide you through your shopping decisions.

What to Keep in Mind

"Linen is an incredible fabric," says Alison Bruhn , stylist and co-founder of the fashion and culture media group, The Style That Binds Us . "It’s timeless, elegant, breathable, and very versatile. It can be dressed up or down, hand washed, and the fabric gets softer with wear."

When it comes to finding the best linen blazer, Bruhn explains that "first, you need to decide what look you’re going for. Do you want a classic double-breasted tailored look or a more relaxed-fitting blazer?"

"How do you feel about fabrics that wrinkle with wear? The only negative that some people find with this fabric is that it can wrinkle easily," the stylist shares. "However, there are ways to get around this if wrinkling feels sloppy and is causing you to pause when buying a linen blazer. Consider choosing a blazer with a lining, as they don’t wrinkle as easily and keep their shape better. When going this route, be aware that, depending on what the lining is made of, they may not be as cool in very hot, humid weather."

Ultimately, though, "as long as you take care of the one hundred percent linen [by] hanging it after wear and giving it a quick steam to freshen before the next wear, the natural wrinkles will only enhance the fabric's beauty, " says Bruhn.

"Linen blazers come in a multitude of colors, as the natural fabric holds dye really well," explains Bruhn. "Once again, you must decide the look you’re going for because the selection is endless! One hundred percent linen is a natural fiber made from flax, and because of this, soft neutrals like ivory, beige, and khaki are a natural fit for linen in the summer, but if you are someone who loves color, a beautiful melon, lavender, Kelly green, or royal blue will create a statement look that is very on trend for summer 2023."

Reformation The Classic Relaxed Linen Blazer

Traditional with its single-breasted silhouette but contemporary in its oversized and relaxed fit—this navy blue, 100 percent linen blazer by Reformation is our top pick. Simply put: It's a piece you'll gravitate towards for years to come. "When wearing a blazer like this, pay special attention to the other parts of your outfit," advises Bruhn on ensuring you achieve the maximum sleek impact from the style. "To avoid looking like you just rolled out of bed, style with a smooth top under, a cute mini skirt, shorts, or a pair of pants or jeans that aren't visibly wrinkled."

Madewell The Larsen Linen Blazer

Bruhn shouts out this stark white, 100 percent linen option from Madewell as being one of her personal faves. "There are a multitude of ways to wear this quintessential summer piece," she describes. "Linen pairs well with a crisp white jean or a beautiful pair of summer pants and a heel. You can also pair a linen blazer with a T-shirt and shorts for a casual summer vibe or throw it over a  slip dress  for a night on the town. The possibilities really are endless."

Quince 100% European Linen Blazer

"This blazer by Quince is 100 percent natural linen and much more unstructured, making it the coolest option for hot weather. It is a perfect choice for staying cool in the heat," shares the fashion stylist. "The single-breasted blazer's vibe is relaxed and European, creating a very casual look. This is a nice option if you are comfortable with a slightly rumpled look," she adds, praising this affordable (only $70!) linen blazer for creating a lived-in, effortlessly elegant effect. Try teaming it with Quince's matching elastic-waist linen pants .

J. Crew Linen Bristol Blazer

"Another option for solving the wrinkling dilemma with linen blazers is the material used. Blazers made with a mix of linen and other materials wrinkle less," explains Bruhn. "This pink linen blazer by J.Crew is made of what the brand calls 'stretch linen;' it is made of a blend of mainly linen, but with some polyester added to give it the stretch and help ward off wrinkles. You can find this type of material with multiple brands at different price points."

Banana Republic Alva Linen-Cotton Blazer

Go for a graphic look with Banana Republic's striped linen-cotton blend blazer. Its sharp lapels, luxe-looking gold buttons, and double-breasted design deliver a classic, almost nautical effect. This blazer is available to shop in sizes 0 through 20 and also offered in specifically tall and petite sizing, which ensures you can find the style that fits you best. And for a low-effort look with a high-style impact, team this striped style with Banana Republic's coordinating linen shorts .

H&M Linen-Blend Tie-Belt Dress

This linen-blend dress from H&M is the ideal balance of feminine and masculine style codes. It boasts front buttons and padded shoulder pads, which give the dress structure and polish, while the tie belt offers a more casual feel. The tailored blazer dress is offered in sizes small to extra large and in white, as pictured, dark black, and khaki. Plus, it's a top-rated find at H&M with a four-point-seven out of five stars. "Perfect for a work convention in a very hot climate," describes one reviewer. "Excellent quality [and] looks more expensive than what it is."

Abercrombie & Fitch Cropped Linen-Blend Blazer

Bruhn shouts out fresh melon shades as being a fruity color palette to consider trying for summer 2023. Abercrombie & Fitch's honeydew-hued blazer is a perfect example of how refreshing the bright, citrus-y shades can feel. Plus, the cropped silhouette is ideal for those not partial to the longline look. "This cropped jacket is perfect: the fit and crop are great," writes one Abercrombie & Fitch reviewer, saying "don't wait" to buy it for yourself. "I'm weaving this into my summer office and informal wear."

Polo Ralph Lauren Linen Blazer

"Some blazers are partially lined"—like this crisp option by Polo Ralph Lauren—to offer slight structure and give you greater control over how wrinkly your piece gets, Bruhn says. This blazer is made of 100 percent linen, while the lining is 100 percent cotton, offering much-needed breathability on the interior. It comes in a size range of 0 to 10 and boasts a slightly cinched waistline to create shape definition. And as the stylist describes, "if you are going for a classic,  quiet luxury  look and like a longer blazer, you cannot beat this style."

Eileen Fisher Notch Lapel Longline Organic Linen Blazer

When you want sustainable fashion with a sophisticated, minimal, and no-fuss look, turn to Eileen Fisher. The label is known for its sleek and eco-conscious offerings, with its notched-lapel blazer being a particularly smart buy for summer 2023. It's crafted from 100 percent organic linen and boasts an open silhouette to create an understated and free-flowing look. Take it from this pleased Nordstrom shopper: "I adore this jacket. It is  so  oddly hard to find a piece like this: casual and chic at the same time [and] very high quality. Wear with jeans and a white tank for day or with trousers for evening."

DOLAN Linen Boyfriend Blazer

Here's another linen blazer that offers a balanced combination of feminine-masculine vibes. The pink and orange floral print offers a romantic element, while the oversized, relaxed fit—a major  summer 2023 trend , by the way—provides a more traditional boyish slant. However, reviewers note you might want to size up if you like a dramatically roomy fit. "Perfect, easy-fitting blazer in optimistic colors," writes one Anthropologie shopper. "Size up if you're searching for more of a "boyfriend" look. Cute stripe lining [and I] love styling this with rolled sleeves, back to denim, cargo, shorts/skirt, or over a dress! A classic option for the season!"

Jacquemus Tibau Linen-Blend Blazer

"For the fashion insider, this blazer and matching pant by designer-of-the-moment Jacquemus is divine," Bruhn says. Simon Porte Jacquemus, the creative at the helm of the eponymous French brand, is a master at low-key luxury. His pieces—like this sunny yellow Tibau linen-blend blazer—epitomize  French fashion  in that they possess a refinement that's simultaneously nonchalant. It's that classic, trying-but-not-too-hard, je n'ais ce quoi look. Admittedly, this nipped-in blazer is quite the investment, but it's worthwhile if you're fond of an unassuming and carefree aesthetic.

Great for summer

I got this blazer in 2 colors. It is nice and comfy and breathable.perfect for summer days. The price is also very good. Can be styled casual and more formal. I am happy with the purchase. I am 5’11 and 165lbs and used to alternation of my wardrobe. I have a short and slim torso and very long arms. At first I ordered M and it fit nicely around waist but the sleeves were way too short for me. Then I exchanged to size L and sleeves are great, but I had to take it to my seamstress to make it more fitted around the midsection. I recommend this blazer wholeheartedly and I think it will fit great on most people.

ALL YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

1. What is linen?

So you’ve pinned those classic linen pants and breezy linen shirts on Pinterest. But what is linen made of , exactly, and where does linen come from ? At Quince, our famously soft linen comes from European flax, a plant fiber that’s actually less resource intensive and more sustainable than cotton. Flax linen has lots of benefits—it’s breathable, lightweight, hypoallergenic, helps regulate heat to keep you comfy, and only gets softer with every wash. It also has a natural crinkle that gives it the laidback-luxe vibe it’s loved for.

2. Does linen shrink?

This is a “yes, but…” answer. Yes, linen does shrink. But we intentionally pre-wash our linen to minimize shrinkage—you shouldn’t experience anything major once you have your linen at home. Bonus: The extra pre-wash helps boost softness straight away.

Worried about how to care for linen ? Don’t be—it’s super easy! Read the next question below for our washing and drying recommendations.

3. How do I wash linen?

The golden rule about how to wash linen is to avoid washing in hot water (which can cause shrinking) and opt for a cold or warm wash instead. Linen likes a gentle cycle with similar colors, and you’ll want to take it out of the washer asap if you want to downplay the natural crinkled look.

Maybe washing feels like no big deal, but you’re still anxious about how to dry linen shirts or other linen pieces. If you guessed that hot dryer temps might be best to avoid, you’re right. We recommend a tumble dry on a low setting or hanging your linen to dry. Add our 100% New Zealand wool dryer balls to your dry cycle to help, and if you want a smoother look, you can use a warm (not hot) iron or steamer.

4. Does linen wrinkle?

Wrinkles are to be expected and are actually a sign of quality, 100% unadulterated linen. Part of the allure of linen is that gorgeous rumpled aesthetic—those natural wrinkles give it the lowkey-luxe vibe that makes it recognizable.

When it comes to linen, we’re definitely team ‘embrace the wrinkles.’ But if you still prefer a smoother look, here’s how to keep linen from wrinkling and how to get wrinkles out of linen once they’re already there. First, make sure you remove anything linen asap once the machine wash cycle is done—sitting in the machine too long will make more wrinkles stick. If that happens, you can use a warm (not hot) iron while the linen is still a bit damp, and keep it moving so you don’t burn the fabric. If ironing is a task you avoid at all costs, here’s how to get wrinkles out of linen without ironing : a gentle steam can release the biggest ones. Or you can try the hack we swear by—toss a couple of ice cubes in your dryer with your linen to create a quick, no-fuss steam session.

5. What do I wear with linen?

Yay! You bought your first piece of linen. Now what do you wear with your new linen? Here are some basics:

How to style linen pants : Wear linen head to toe on vacay with a matching cropped tank or team with a tucked-in cotton tee and a blazer for the office.

How to style linen shirts : Endless potential here, but we love leaving one unbuttoned over a textured tank and crisp shorts. Or take it to work by tucking into a high-waist trouser.

How to style linen jackets : These are a natural with linen pants but look just as good with jeans and heels.

How to style linen dresses : We love contrasting the laidback feel of linen with the polished shimmer of our essential gold jewelry . Slip on a comfy shoe and add a cotton cardigan if the weather’s cool.

Staying in? Don't forget to get some linen loungewear so you can relax at home in style.

6. How do I store or pack linen?

Our linen clothing is so versatile, we’re hoping you’ll use it for more seasons than one—but if you’re wondering how to pack linen away, we’re here to help. If you have the space, keep it hanging with a padded hanger. If not, you’ll want to store in a moisture- and bug-resistant container in a spot that’s dry and cool.

And while we’re on the topic, here’s one last tip about how to fold linen , whether you’re storing it or packing for vacation: roll it instead. This will help limit wrinkles during storage and should save you space, too.

Princess Charlene of Monaco Made a Rare Appearance in Her Engagement Ring

The princess opted for a sporty chic look, accented by some serious sparkle, at the Sainte Devote Rugby Tournament.

This weekend, Charlene proved her sporty status—and her flawless spectator style—once again when she attended the annual Sainte Devote Rugby Tournament.

Ralph Lauren Collection Skye Pinstriped Cotton & Linen Blazer

Ralph Lauren Collection Skye Pinstriped Cotton & Linen Blazer

Organized in partnership with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, the tournament brings together rugby players under the age of 12 for a day of fun and competition. In keeping with the theme of the day, Charlene brought her best prepster athlete chic in a navy-striped cream blazer by Ralph Lauren with dark, ankle-length skinny jeans. She paired the style with saddle brown Manolo Blahnik pumps and an Hermes belt in a matching shade.

However, perhaps her most remarked upon touch was one accessory that she's not often seen in nowadays—her engagement ring. The pear-cut diamond ring, with its sizeable central stone and gem-studded band, has not been seen often on the princess's finger in recent years, but it made an appearance at the tournament, worn in conjunction with a simple band—presumably the Cartier band that her husband, Prince Albert , slipped onto her finger at their 2011 wedding.

The jewelry choice, of course, immediately garnered speculation about whether Charlene was attempting to send a message about her marriage. Last summer, rumors circulated widely that the royal couple had separated and were considering divorce —while the palace never directly commented on the stories, last September, Charlene and Albert began making a series of appearances together , which many inferred as an attempt to quell the speculation. Since then, the couple have been seen together at events regularly. It's unclear whether Charlene's ring choice over the weekend was the latest salvo in a public relations effort, or simply a sentimental style choice to accent her outfit.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.
