LPGA Qualifying Tour to Play 20 Tournaments and Move to a Points-Based “Race for the Card”
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Epson Tour, the official qualifying tour of the LPGA, continues to grow in 2024. The Tour is entering its 44th year and boasts record-breaking numbers, including $5 Million in total prize money (the largest in Tour history) and a $20,000 increase in average purse size per event in 2024. The Epson Tour is also introducing a structural change to the Race for the Card in 2024.
New to the upcoming season is the transition from a Money-based ranking to a Points-based ranking to determine which athletes will receive LPGA Tour Cards in 2025. Following a similar structure to the LPGA Tour, the season-long Race for the Card will see Epson Tour Members compete for Points in each Official Epson Tour Tournament, with a 30% increased Points value for the Epson Tour Championship. "We’re proud of the progress we have made to the growth of the Epson Tour and can’t wait to watch these incredible athletes tee it up throughout the record-breaking 2024 season,” said LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan. “The transition to a points-based system in the Race for the Card reflects our commitment to identifying and elevating the next generation of LPGA stars. As the Tour continues to grow in prize money and depth of talent, we believe this change will add an exciting dimension to the competition and will give every Epson Tour athlete a balanced opportunity throughout the season to earn their place on the LPGA Tour.
The 20-tournament schedule will take the Epson Tour to 12 states and offer $5 million in total prize money, for an average purse size of $250,000, exceeding last year’s average purse size of $227,273. The season will tee off March 8-10 with the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic in Winter Haven, Florida, at the Country Club of Winter Haven.
“We are excited to announce the 2024 Epson Tour Schedule, which is full of opportunity for our athletes to achieve their dream of playing on the LPGA Tour,” said the Epson Tour’s Chief Business and Operations Officer, Jody Brothers. “I believe the new venues, combined with improved geographic flow and increased purses will better prepare and identify the Epson Tour athletes ready for the next level.”
“Our partnership with the LPGA has helped us provide positive inspiration to future leaders around the world,” said Yasunori Ogawa, global president of Epson. “We are honored to support these world-class athletes for the third year, and hope they can continue to challenge themselves to realize their LPGA dreams in the 2024 Epson Tour.”
As announced in November, the Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic rejoins the Epson Tour schedule for the 2024 season with an increased purse and new location. The new purse will be the largest in Epson Tour history at $400,000 with the winner taking home $60,000. The Carlisle Arizona Women’s Classic is also making the move to TPC Scottsdale’s Champions Course, where they will be the tournament host through 2026.
Two new tournaments have been added in 2024, building the Florida stretch at the beginning of the season and the Midwest stretch immediately before the halfway point. The Atlantic Beach Classic, hosted at Atlantic Beach Country Club east of Jacksonville, will be a 54-hole stroke play tournament with a $300,000 purse from March 21-23. Also boasting a $300,000 purse, at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Indiana, is the Otter Creek Championship from June 14-16.
Additionally, three events on the schedule will reach a milestone year in 2024, with the Twin Bridges Championship celebrating 40 years, the longest-running event on Tour. The Garden City Charity Classic at Buffalo Dunes and the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic will also crown their 10th and 15th champion, respectively.
In a year of change, the 2024 season will conclude in a new location than years past, with the Epson Tour Championship moving from Daytona Beach, Florida to Indian Wells, California. The Championship will remain a 72-hole stroke play format with a $250,000 purse and be played from October 3-6 on the Player Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort.
The Epson Tour prides itself on sending talented athletes to compete among the best on the LPGA Tour, and many who got their start on the official qualifying tour have found early success in their careers. In all, 480 LPGA Tour titles have been won by former Epson Tour players, including 13 major championships since 2013. Current alumnae on the LPGA Tour include Nelly Korda, Celine Boutier, Lilia Vu, Grace Kim, Hannah Green, Madelene Sagstrom and Ally Ewing.
“Epson's dedication and generous support has been inspiring," added Brothers. "Their commitment to the growth and success of women's golf has been instrumental in shaping and growing the Epson Tour and has improved our athletes' journeys."

LPGA Announces 2024 Schedule
Following yet another historic year for the world’s longest-running women’s sports organization, the LPGA Tour announced today that the 2024 schedule will include 35 events (33 official events) with the world’s best golfers competing for a total prize fund of more than $118 million, with $116.55 million in official money. The 2024 total prize fund represents the highest ever in Tour history, up from approximately $70 million in 2021, a 69% increase.
“The 2024 LPGA Tour schedule reflects our historic growth,” said LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan. “With new events and improved geographic flow, enhancing the athlete experience, our global reach and competitiveness have never been stronger. As we embark on this season, we celebrate the remarkable journey of women’s golf, anticipating thrilling competition and unforgettable moments for fans worldwide.”
The global schedule will take the LPGA Tour to 15 states in the United States and 10 countries, including two multi-event swings in Asia between February and March and again in October. The year will feature three new events – the previously announced LPGA Drive On Championship in Bradenton, Fla., in January and the FM Global Championship in Norton, Mass., in September along with the Arizona Championship presented by JTBC next March. Also, Seri Pak joins major champions Michelle Wie West (Mizuho Americas Open) and Annika Sorenstam (The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican) as an LPGA Tour event host, adding her moniker to the Seri Pak LA Open to be played at Palos Verdes Golf Club in California.
The schedule features a record 16 tournaments with purses of at least $3 million, including 10 non-major and non-Tour Championship events (an increase from four in 2023 and only one in 2021). To date, the four tournaments to elevate their purse size to $3 million in 2024 are the Mizuho Americas Open ($2.75M to $3M), the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give ($2.5M to $3M), the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G ($2.3M to $3M) and the LOTTE Championship presented by Hoakalei ($2M to $3M), which will be contested in November for the first time. The CME Group Tour Championship’s purse saw the biggest increase, from $7M to $11M, which was announced earlier this week.
So far, a total of 10 events have announced elevated purses for next year, including the Seri Pak LA Open ($1.75M to $2M), the LPGA Match Play at Shadow Creek ($1.5M to $2M), the Portland Classic ($1.5M to $1.75M), and the CPKC Women’s Open ($2.5M to $2.6M).
Additional purse increases are expected to be announced throughout the season, building on the historic growth the Tour has seen over recent years. Since 2021, prize funds for the non-major and non-Tour Championship tournaments have grown 61%, with major championship purses up 78% over that period. The schedule also features 19 events with either travel stipends for athletes or guaranteed minimum payouts.
The LPGA Tour major championship season kicks off this April in The Woodlands, Texas, at The Club at Carlton Woods for The Chevron Championship, followed by the U.S. Women’s Open in May at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania, where In Gee Chun first broke onto the scene with her 2015 victory. The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will take place outside Seattle at Sahalee Country Club in June, the site of Brooke Henderson’s maiden major win in 2016. The Amundi Evian Championship at Evian Resort Golf Club in France, where countrywoman Celine Boutier raised her first major trophy in 2023, is back in July, and the Tour returns to the famed Old Course at St Andrews – the home of golf – for the AIG Women’s Open, the third time the iconic course has hosted the championship.
LPGA Tour athletes will have the opportunity to compete for their home countries between the Portland Classic and Women’s Scottish Open at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will feature a women’s golf competition for the third-straight Games at Le Golf National from Aug. 8-11, three years removed from Nelly Korda’s gold-medal performance in Tokyo. Qualifying for the 60-player field ends following the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (June 24, 2024), with the top-15 players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings automatically qualifying for the Games (no more than four players per country), and the remaining sports awarded to the highest-ranked players from countries that do not already have two qualified players.
A year after a dramatic showdown between the United States and Europe that led to the first tie in its history, the Solheim Cup marks its return to the United States at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. next September as the U.S. Team looks to win back the Cup on home soil for the first time since 2017. The Grant Thornton Invitational, where LPGA and PGA TOUR players will team up and compete for a combined $4 million purse, will round out the year in December in Naples, Fla.
There will also be increased network television broadcast opportunities, up from 10 in 2023. ESPN+ will also add featured group coverage to four events, which includes the 2024 CME Group Tour Championship. The other three tournaments will be announced next year. The newly inked deal with ESPN+ will also extend through 2025.

Other notable women’s golf events held in Massachusetts include the 1954 and 1984 U.S. Women’s Opens at Salem Country Club in Peabody, the 1967-1968 and 1970-1974 KPMG Women’s PGA Championships at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, and the 1960 U.S. Women’s Open at Worcester Country Club in Worcester.
TPC Boston, located 25 miles south of Boston, opened in 2002 with an original layout by Arnold Palmer, followed by a 2007 redesign by Gil Hanse and Brad Faxon. 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson Full Field: Jordan Spieth Headlines in Texas
Four players in the top 30 are playing one week before a signature event and two weeks before the PGA Championship.
- Author: John Schwarb
The PGA Tour rolls on to one of its most historic events, albeit one that won’t exactly have a historically strong field.
The CJ Cup Byron Nelson is an interesting Tour amalgam of a name, with the CJ Cup originally having been a Tour stop in South Korea before moving back to the U.S. Rory McIlroy won the last two, in 2021 in Las Vegas and 2022 in South Carolina. But after AT&T discontinued its sponsorship following the 2023 event (AT&T continues to sponsor the Pebble Beach Pro-Am), the CJ Cup name found a new home.
Byron Nelson needs no introduction. The legendary Texan ranks sixth all-time in Tour wins with 52, including 11 in a row in 1945. In 1944 he won the Texas Victory Open, which in 1968 became the Byron Nelson Golf Classic. His name has been affixed to the Dallas-area stop ever since, and for years he greeted the winner off the 18th green. He died in 2006 at age 94.
His namesake event continues but in a compromised part of the Tour schedule. The second week of April of course was the Masters and immediately after that was the signature event RBC Heritage. Next week’s Wells Fargo Championship is another signature event, followed by the PGA Championship.
All that means there aren’t many household names teeing it up at TPC Craig Ranch. Native Texan Jordan Spieth is the highest-ranked player in the world rankings at No. 20, and Jason Day, Tom Kim and Will Zalatoris are the only players inside the top 30.
But valuable FedEx Cup points and a $9.5 million purse are up for grabs for the field of 156, plus the ability to play one’s way into Wells Fargo and the season’s second major.
Here’s the full field for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson from the PGA Tour. Keep an eye on this Twitter post all week for any field adjustments.
