Luke Combs announces upcoming UK tour. Coming to Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on 16th October 2023.
Luke Combs’ acclaimed new album, Growin’ Up , debuted at No.1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart in 2022. Produced by Combs, Chip Matthews and Jonathan Singleton, it’s his third studio album following 2019’s three-time Platinum What You See is What You Get and his four-time Platinum debut, This One’s For You . Combs continues to break records in the UK, with Growin’ Up debuting in the Top 10 albums chart, and his previous albums, This One’s For You and What You See Is What You Get being certified Gold, making Combs the first male American country artist to have their first two albums reach this threshold in the UK. During his last performance in the UK headlining the C2C Festival, he treated fans to an incredible surprise, bringing out his friend Ed Sheeran to join him on a performance of Sheeran’s hit single ‘Drive’.
Combs (the reigning CMA Awards winner of Entertainer of the Year) was announced as having been nominated again for country music’s highest honour. This year marks his fifth nomination for Male Vocalist, a trophy he’s claimed twice. Growin’ Up earns him his second nomination for Album of the Year, which he co-produced. Combs won Album of the Year in 2020 and, with this year’s nods, he has received 18 total nominations since 2017.
Midst of a record-setting and historic series of years
A member of the Grand Ole Opry and a six-time CMA, three-time ACM, and three-time Billboard Music Award-winner, Combs is in the midst of a record-setting and historic series of years. His previous release, What You See Ain’t Always What You Get , debuted at No.1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart as well as Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. With the record, Combs reached No.1 on Rolling Stone’s Top 200 Albums chart, Top 100 Songs chart, and Artists 500 chart—the first country artist ever to lead all three charts in the same week and the first to top the Artists 500. He also made history as the first artist ever to have their first two studio albums spend 25 weeks or more at No.1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart — breaking Taylor Swift’s previously held record at 24 weeks.

Luke Combs review – country star ploughs the middle of the road
OVO Hydro, Glasgow Chugging beers with the cowboy-hatted crowd, Combs is a skilled performer and musician, but the set is too slick and formulaic to be special
C ountry superstar Luke Combs is in Glasgow, and – much like when Shania Twain played here a few weeks ago – the city’s Hydro arena is a sea of cowboy hats. As country music’s biggest crossover star, North Carolina-born, Nashville-based Combs arguably occupies the same position now as Twain did in the 1990s. After more than five years of mainstream success in the US, he’s recently cracked the UK, with two top 10 albums in the last year – Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old – followed by this string of sold out UK and Irish arena dates.
If Combs has a contemporary peer, it’s his friend Ed Sheeran, who shares his down-to-earth persona and stripped-back approach. Even Combs’ origin story – he auditioned for The Voice but was told he wasn’t interesting enough for TV – plays to a desire for perceived authenticity in today’s pop scene. Striding in to 2019’s honky tonk love song Lovin’ on You, Combs is every inch the southern everyman in all-black jeans, shirt and trucker cap, swigging from a red cup like he’s been pulled up on stage for barroom karaoke. His seven-strong band emphasise the rockier edges of his sound on the rowdy Cold as You, the Eagles-lite of The Kind of Love We Make, and the full-on stomper 1, 2 Many, during which he slams a beer with a guy on the front row.
Ironically, despite Combs’ down-home appeal, his show is too slick to elevate the material beyond the middle of the road. Combs’ stylised country vocals seem effortlessly strong and his band are tight and precise, but there’s some crucial alchemy missing. The polished presentation also betrays the formulaic nature of his songwriting: when he plays the mid-tempo songs She Got the Best of Me and Hurricane back-to-back, it’s hard to tell the difference between them. The set’s ballad-heavy mid-section includes Beautiful Crazy, Combs’ somewhat saccharine tribute to his wife, during which the screens behind him show dozens of people wiping away tears. His note-perfect version of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car reveals both his mass appeal and his limits: Combs is skilled at replicating emotional beats, but lacks the specificity of a great artist.

Luke Combs – OVO Hydro – Glasgow 16th October 2023 Review
Tonight’s gig is firmly out of my wheelhouse. Having only recently discovered Luke Combs via his current album Getting Old and fell in love with it. When I was offered the chance to attend and review the concert in Glasgow, I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity. I was already intrigued as to how the arrangements on Getting Old were going to come across live.
First things first, there were no mosh pits, no walls of death, no pogoing or crowd surfing. There was however an incredibly passionate fanbase, who sang every word, danced, bopped, and clapped along. At times you couldn’t hear Luke because of his fanbase being so chuffing loud. They really were a beautiful crowd to be part of.
The intro tape piped in Sweet Caroline which of course we all were singing along with before breaking into Thunderstruck. What a way to get an audience pumped up.
Lovin’ On You opened the set, much to the surprise of a few folk in front of me who were taking bets on the opener. No one got it right, but they were not disappointed. Having chatted to them after the show, they weren’t disappointed at all by the set. They even said there were a few surprises thrown in too.
The set which included One Number Away, 1, 2 Many, Beautiful Crazy and She Got The Best Of Me , played like a greatest hits, which for me personally blew me away, as I was only familiar with the tracks played from Growin Old ( Hannah Ford Road was killer live and surpassed my expectations )
This has now sent me on a deep dive through Mr. Comb’s archives and will no doubt eventually hurt my wallet as I purchase his entire back catalog.
Tonight’s whole experience has left me with incredibly sore cheeks from smiling so much not just because of the music, but watching the way Lukes music has touched so many people. It was a very special night. I swear, there were times throughout the set that felt unreal. (and no dear reader, I wasn’t on anything illicit. I’m 5 years sober)
I loved every second of it and if truth be told, this is 1 of my top 5 gigs of all time. (1st place goes to The Sex Pistols in Finsbury Park back in 1996). I hope I get another opportunity to attend another Luke Combs show.

The country superstar’s acclaimed new album ‘Growin’ Up’ debuted at No.1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart this past June. The record was produced by Combs, Chip Matthews and Jonathan Singleton and is his third studio album to date following 2019s 3x Platinum ‘What You See is What You Get’ and 2017s 4x Platinum debut ‘This One’s For You’.
He continues to break records in the UK, with ‘Growin’ Up’ debuting in the Top 10 albums chart, and his previous releases achieving Gold certification – this makes Combs the first male American country artist to have their first two albums reach this threshold in the UK.
The reigning CMA Awards winner of Entertainer of the Year was recently announced as having been nominated again for country music’s highest honour. This year marks his fifth nomination for Male Vocalist, a trophy he’s already claimed twice before. Furthermore, ‘Growin’ Up’ has earned him his second nomination for Album of the Year. Combs took home Album of the Year back in 2020 and, with this year’s nods, he has received 18 total nominations since 2017.
In addition, he made history as the first artist ever to have their first two studio albums spend 25 weeks or more at No.1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart—breaking Taylor Swift’s previously held record at 24 weeks.
A member of the Grand Ole Opry, he is also a 6x CMA, 3x ACM, 3x Billboard Music Award-winner.

Exclusive: Luke Combs Kicks Off 'Growin' Up And Gettin' Old' Tour With His Iconic Miller Lite Hat Collection
Combs gave us all the juicy details on his tour and awards nominations!
"I’m just excited to be touring again. My crew had a well-deserved break and I enjoyed time off with my family, but I love playing shows—that’s my favorite part of this whole thing, so I’ll love being back out on the road and getting to play two shows a week," Combs told Country Living.
Combs Shares the Motivation Behind Gettin' Old
A lot has changed for Combs since his country music debut, including marrying his wife Nicole , welcoming two sons into the world, and amassing millions of fans. As he's growing up and getting older, his music has evolved from light-hearted party anthems and breakup songs to more heartfelt and mature country ballads (don't worry, there are still a few party songs in the mix).
"I mean, just as I get older and as things in my life change—being married and having two boys—my music seems to follow that in more of a serious aspect when it comes to what I’m singing about. Of course still some party songs thrown in there, but definitely a lot more songs with a deeper meaning," Combs said of his musical evolution.
Life on the road looks a little different now for the husband and father of two, and he admits that he values family time on tour above all else. "I bring my wife, Nicole, when I can. That’s the best thing. And my dog sometimes. And of course the boys when we can. Anytime they’re out or my parents and family, the road feels like home," Combs explained.
He's Still the Same Luke Combs We Know and Love
While Luke Combs may be growing up, there's a few things that haven't changed about the "Beautiful Crazy" singer: his love for Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car," trucker hats, and Miller Lite.
Of course, we had to confirm whether "Fast Car" made the cut for the "Growin' Up and Gettin' Old" Tour setlist. Fans, breathe a sign of relief: "Yes, we'll definitely be playing 'Fast Car.' Tracy's song has really resonated with my fans so I love playing it for them as much as I love the songs myself," Combs said. Now that that important fact is cleared up, we can move on to Combs's other mainstays: his hats and his beer.
Luke Combs's Hat + Miller Lite Obsession: A Series
It's rare to catch Luke Combs without a trucker hat on his head, whether he's on the red carpet, performing, or out on the town. Seriously, we think he may have an entire closet devoted to hats, but possibly the largest portion of his collection rep his favorite beer, Miller Lite. "I keep it casual most of the time. I love Miller hats. I have a huge collection of them and wear them all the time," Luke admitted.
Creating a Miller Lite x Luke Combs Tour Trucker hat was an absolute no-brainer. "Miller came to me about creating my own—it was perfect. We made sure to add elements of my album art and Miller Lite's design throughout. I really love the design that we pulled together," Combs continued.
Not only can you rock the same hat as Luke Combs for the price of a Miller Lite 24 pack, the hat could also end up being your ticket to a Luke Combs concert! When you buy The Miller Lite x Luke Combs Trucker (available April 17 at shop.millerlite.com ), you're entered to win two tickets to a Luke Combs concert, beer money, and two tickets plus free travel to Luke's Bootlegger Bonfire Weekend.
"I love Miller Lite and it's as simple as that. Miller Lite has been my go-to beer for years now and I love working with them to bring more beer and more music to fans," Combs concluded.
