Ferragosto is by far one of Italy's most longingly-awaited summer holidays, where spring breakers can unwind and enjoy themselves between celebrations and out-of-town trips. Should you be stuck in the city and still not know what to do, let our extensive cultural offer inspire you, between museums, cinema, nature, music and much more.

Ferragosto... at the museum

It is a perfect time to spend it around museums: few people, air conditioning and great masterpieces. If you want to immerse yourself in the art of Bologna's museums, you'll find the Archaeological Museum , Palazzo delle Esposizioni Fava , Palazzo Pepoli, which houses the Historical Museum of Bologna , and the Pinacoteca Nazionale open on the 15th. As for current exhibitions, at the Archiginnasio Library you will find the " Kidnapping of the Child" exhibition , which tells the story of the famous Mortara case. While at MAMbo you can visit the exhibition Yvonne Rainer: Words, Dances, Films , which explores the relationship between the artist's choreographic, filmic and theoretical production through a historical reconstruction of her transition from dance to film.

Ferragosto... at the cinema

This year on August 15th let's go to the cinema! Thanks to the Cinema Revolution 2023 initiative, you will find many options for Italian and European films for only €3.50. The historic Arena Tivoli reopens its doors to present an interesting  movie agenda to the Bolognese public. In particular, the screening of the French film Sì, chef! La brigade.

The Arena Puccini , historic open-air cinema very dear to the Bolognese public, offers the preview of the Italian film Una commedia pericolosa as part of its summer showings . In the historic center, the Arena Orfonica will screen in its large courtyard Mamma Mia! , the classic film adaptation of the musical, based on the songs of the Swedish group ABBA.

Ferragosto... in nature

For an awakening immersed in nature, the " Alba di pietre e di aria " event features music and meditation at Mount Bibele . While if you are looking for tradition, on August 15th in Monghidoro you can find the Festival d'oltralpe , with food stands full of local specialties.

Plus, after the success of previous editions, Crinali returns with music and artists along the most beautiful nature trails. In particular, at 6 p.m. there will be a concert in Grizzana Morandi , with guitar and vocals; while from 9 p.m. there will be a concert entitled "Like It Used to Be" in Castel di Casio . This is an opportunity to relax and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Apennines.

Ferragosto... lulled by the music 

If you are a music lover, you can't miss the 12th edition of (s)Nodi, the festival of unusual music at the Museum of Music. On August 15th, the Flaira Ferro trio takes the stage in a show that mixes traditional elements of northeast Brazilian folk culture with rock, pop, funk and electronica in a highly original way.

If, on the other hand, you want to be swept away by a different atmosphere, we suggest you attend one of the most beloved events of the Bolognese summer, Ferragosto alla Serre , where the staff will think about offering you refreshment, relaxation and good music. Free admission and music from 5 pm.

Ferragosto... discovering Bologna

Bologna is never fully discovered! Join one of the many tours, to visit the city and its surroundings or to see it through different eyes. Ferragosto...having fun

On the other hand, if you want to satisfy the wishes of the little ones and have fun with them, Ferragosto at Villa Revedin offers shows and entertainment for children and families in the afternoon, while in the evening there will be a musical presentation in homage to the most famous soundtracks.

Finally, we suggest a visit to Fico Eataly World , the theme park dedicated to gastronomy, where from 8:30 p.m. the Dinner Under the Stars begins. In the picturesque vineyard you can immerse yourself in good food and the magic of the starry sky, thanks to expert astronomers, all accompanied by musical entertainment.
