Do British Citizens Need a Visa for Morocco?

No , UK passport holders do not need a visa for Morocco for short-term tourism trips. They are one of over 70 countries that benefit from visa-free access.

You can enter Morocco with a British passport and stay in the country for up to 90 days without a visa. British citizens cannot apply for the Morocco eVisa, as this is only for short stays of 30 days.

You only need a visa for Morocco if you plan to stay for longer than 90 days . A visa must be obtained through a Moroccan embassy or consulate.

How to Get a Moroccan Visa for UK Citizens

If you intend to stay in Morocco for longer than the 90 days that the visa-free policy permits, you will need to obtain a visa for your trip.

You must go in person to a Moroccan embassy or consulate to apply for a visa.

Tourist Information for UK Travelers in Morocco

Morocco is a popular tourist destination for British travelers. In 2018, UK passport holders were the 3rd most represented nationality of all international arrivals, and the 3rd of all European countries. This is according to the Spanish economics newspaper Expansión Datosmacro.

The newspaper also states that Moroccan authorities recorded 510,516 British tourists in the country in 2018. This number has started to increase, as international travel resumes following COVID-19 restrictions.

Morocco e-Visa for UK Residence Permit and Visa Holders

The following information applies to non-British citizens with a UK residence permit or visa.

If you are from one of the 100+ countries that are eligible to apply for the Morocco e-Visa, and you are a UK resident or visa holder , then you can use the online e-Visa system.

This section also covers the electronic Morocco visa for UK BRP holders (biometric residence permit).

Only citizens of Azerbaijan, Benin, India, Israel, Guatemala, Jordan, and Thailand can apply using just their passport.

Can I apply for a Morocco e-Visa from the UK?

UK visas must be valid for at least 90 days from the day of arrival in Morocco.

What is the visa processing time?

The processing time is a maximum of two weeks. Some applications may take longer as they are processed on case by case basis. If you have an emergency you may walk in and ask the visa officer about the arrangements available. This does not mean a visa will be issued right away. You may apply one month in advance.

Very important notice: Travel documents holders are advised to apply 3 months in advance as the process may take much longer than 2 weeks.

Can I get my visa at airport on arrival to Morocco?

 All visas have to be issued by our Consulate. No visas are issued at the airports or ports of the Kingdom of Morocco.

What is the validity of passports?

All passports, including British passports, should be 3 months valid at the time of your entry to the Kingdom of Morocco and in all the cases, higher than the duration of the stay.

If you are submitting for a visa your resident permit should be 3 months valid and in all the cases, higher than the duration of the stay .

Do UK citizens need a visa?

Citizens of the UK and Northern Ireland travelling on a British passport do not require a visa to enter Morocco.

Do UK travel document holders need a visa?

Yes holders of UK travel documents do need a visa to enter the Kingdom of Morocco.  Applicants on any kind of UK travel document need a visa to enter Morocco even if married to a British citizen travelling with them.

Do I need a visa if I have leave to remain in the UK?

Citizens from countries not listed below need a visa need a visa to Morocco even if they have leave to remain in the UK and are married to UK citizens.

Can I apply if I am on a tourist visa to the UK?

Applicants on a tourist visa to the UK cannot apply to this Consulate. They need to apply at the Moroccan Embassy based on their country of residence or nearest country.

How do I submit my application?

All visa applicants are required to submit their application in person if they live in Greater London. If you live outside Greater London you may apply by post as explained bellow.

Can I apply by post?

Only applicants who live outside the greater London area can apply by post. Any application submitted from inside greater London will be resent back without a visa.

What should I do if applying by post?

If you qualify for applying by post please enclose the following:

*  The original of your passport and all required documents mentioned below (copies only), *  The amounts of £20 (one entry) £27 (multiple) in Cash enclosed in a separate envelope to be enclosed in the package with the other documents. *  Make sure you include a PREPAID (500G STAMP) self-addressed envelope special delivery with your name and address on it for return. If you do not include a prepaid special delivery envelope your passport will not be sent back to you.

How do I know my application is being processed?

When submitting by post, keep your special delivery for tracking. If you see that your mail has been received by the Consulate it means we are processing it and you do not need to call us as we will contact you if something is missing.

Do not submit any original documents (except the passport) as none of them will be returned to you.

The application below is good for all kinds of visas (tourist, study, business....). You just need to specify the type of visa on the application.

  • Or of a Moroccan partner or foreign investor branch in Morocco.

  • A mission order for  governmental applicants;
  • An invitation from the entity that invites and organizes the event. (Instructions are usually issued by the Ministry in such cases, otherwise refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for possible verification)
  • Entry visa application form to  the Kingdom of Morocco;
  • Passport validity: The validity of the passport or the travel document must be longer than 90 days and in all the cases, longer than the duration of the stay;
  • A photocopy of the passport (pages indicating the personal identity and the validity);

For student:

  • A certificate of enrollment and/or scholarship granted by the Moroccan Agency for International Co-operation (AMCI) or any other official organisation financing the training schemes in Morocco;
  • Making sure that the name of the applicant is on the list, communicated, beforehand, by the Moroccan Agency for International Co-operation to the appropriate diplomatic or consular mission , listing the names of the foreign students selected by the above-mentioned Agency to follow studies in a Moroccan public university and/or the foreign trainees willing to carry out Internship in the Kingdom;
  • A certificate of enrollment in a Moroccan public university or  higher  education Institute;
  • A certificate of enrollment in a Moroccan private higher education Institute. In this case, the request for visa must be subjected to the preliminary approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, except for the students enrolled at Major Moroccan schools, approved by the proper Moroccan authority.
  • The applicant must justify sufficient means of subsistence during the period of his/her university course (vigilance is recommended for fictitious support documents) ;
  • A care provided by a close relative or a guarantor who resides in Morocco, duly signed and legalized, mentioning the following elements:

      - The guarantor should regularly reside in Morocco and must guarantee student's accommodation            and financial expenses.

      - There must be a commitment to adjust their residency status, as a foreign student, with the                      competent authority at the General Directorate of National Security;

     - There should be a commitment to cover the repatriation costs in case the student is expelled from           the Moroccan territory.

      - Commitment to leave the territory of Morocco as soon as the validity of the residence permit                    expires.

For trainee: An original copy of the internship agreement signed by the host organisation. 

For researcher: The hosting agreement signed with an approved Moroccan research organisation.

  • he members of aircraft crew or sailing personnel, working for commercial airline companies departing and arriving into airports of the Kingdom of Morocco  which must remain for short periods on the territory of Morocco, within the framework of their occupation, will be granted transit visa, if they are subjected to this formality, by the qualified services of the Directorate-General of National Safety.

  • With regard to the merchant marine sector: Contract of engagement or registration on the crew role, endorsed by the Moroccan Ministry of Employment and the head of the competent maritime representation.
  • Identity card or residence permit or any document with present address;
  • A mission order from the body providing technical assistance; 
  • Or a recommendation from the State body benefiting from cooperation and technical assistance with, where appropriate, a copy of the contract;
  • In the case of after-sales service, a copy of the contract and documents of passage through customs or the bank credit card, as well as a certificate of quality of technician.

What if I am not working?

A spouse who is not working may submit husband/wife bank statement and work verification and enclose a letter for explanation.

Processing your application:

Your application will be processed only if you provide all the items listed by the above guidelines. The processing time is within two weeks. But it may take longer depending on the application.

The visa section is open Monday to Thursday: from 10 am to 11:30 am. Please book your online appointment before attending. Collection of passports: at 1:00 pm on the day specified by the visa officer.

Can I take a pet to Morocco?

Yes you may take a pet to Morocco provided you do the following: Get a vaccination history from your Vet which should be legalized by the British Agricultural Department and then by the British Foreign Office.

The visa officer reserves the right to ask for more documents if necessary. The satisfaction of these requirements does not necessarily entitle the applicant to a visa to enter Morocco.

The Decision to issue or decline a visa is made once the applicant documents are checked at the Consulate by the officer in charge.

  • An application for immigration to the Kingdom of Morocco or for establishment for a long stay (greater than one year), mentioning the place of residence, resort or contemplated retirement; 
  • A bank statement justifying sufficient means of subsistence covering the period of residence in the Kingdom of Morocco;
  • A written declaration stating no professional activity throughout residence in the Kingdom of Morocco;
  • Adjustment of situation of stay in the capacity of “visitor” by the qualified services of the Directorate-General of National Safety;
  • A medical cover and/or certificate of insurance covering period of residence in the Kingdom of Morocco.
  • Identity card or residence permit or any document with address.
  • A medical certificate;
  • A certificate of coverage for hospitalization costs and possible repatriation by a health insurance organization or a bank guarantee;  
  • Admission agreement to a hospital structure on the basis of the assumption of responsibility or the bank guarantee.
  • 2 recent photos in colour on a white background showing the features of the face clearly;
  • Document proving financial resources.
  • he members of aircraft crew or sailing personnel, working for commercial airline companies departing and arriving into airports of the Kingdom of Morocco  which must remain for short periods on the territory of Morocco, within the framework of their occupation, will be granted transit visa, if they are subjected to this formality, by the qualified services of the Directorate-General of National Safety.
  • Two recent photos in colour on white background (4 x 3 cm) clearly showing the features of the face
  • Passport validity: The validity of the passport or travel document must be longer than the duration of the stay
  • The Crew Member Certificate (CMC).
  •  A photocopy of the passport (pages indicating identity and validity); 
  • Entry visa application form for the Kingdom of Morocco;
  • 2 photos in colour on a white background clearly showing the features of the face;
  • Passport validity: The validity of the passport or travel document must be longer  than the length of stay;
  • A photocopy of the passport (pages indicating identity and validity);
  • Booklet of sailors.
  • With regard to the maritime fishing sector: Maritime employment or technical assistance contract, issued by a Moroccan ship-owner or company, endorsed by the Moroccan Ministry of Employment and the territorially competent head of the maritime fishery representation.
  • With regard to the merchant marine sector: Contract of engagement or registration on the crew role, endorsed by the Moroccan Ministry of Employment and the head of the competent maritime representation.
  • Identity card or residence permit or any document with present address;
  • A mission order from the body providing technical assistance; 
  • Or a recommendation from the State body benefiting from cooperation and technical assistance with, where appropriate, a copy of the contract;
  • In the case of after-sales service, a copy of the contract and documents of passage through customs or the bank credit card, as well as a certificate of quality of technician.

  • Passport Validity: The validity of the passport or the travel document must be longer than the duration of the stay;
  • A photocopy of the passport (pages indicating the identity &  the validity;
  • Invitation from the department organizing the event. In the case of a private organization, the document must be endorsed by the supervising Ministry.
  • Copy of the contract of service;
  • The issuance of visa is subject to the preliminary approval of the Directorate of Consular and Social Affairs (MFAIC).

Observation

Important observation:.

In accordance with the regulations in force, the change of type of visa already obtained is  not allowed once its holder enters the Moroccan territory. A new visa must be requested  from the country of residence of the person concerned.

The form of request for visa of entry to Morocco

To fill carefully, in Latin characters capital letters.

The form can be filled in Arabic but the surname, first name, affiliations and Birthplace must be in Latin characters for technical reasons.

  1. Morocco Visa Requirements for the UK Citizens

    Debit or credit card. Your passport must be from an e-Visa eligible country and valid for at least 3 months from the intended date of arrival in Morocco. Your residence permit must be valid for at least 180 days. The Morocco e-Visa requirements for UK BRP holders are the same as those mentioned above.
