The Magic of Langkawi Sunsets

Nestled just north of the equator, Langkawi boasts a unique geographical positioning that makes its sunsets nothing short of breathtaking. But what is it about these sunsets that make them so spellbinding? Let’s unravel the mystery.

Geographical Serendipity

Langkawi’s location near the equator means consistent sunset timings throughout the year. Unlike many other destinations where sunset times can vary widely between seasons, Langkawi offers a reliable window for sunset enthusiasts. This predictability is a boon for travelers planning their day around this mesmerizing event.

Kaleidoscope of Colors

Have you ever wondered why some sunsets are a soft pink while others blaze in brilliant oranges and purples? The science behind it is fascinating. The interplay of the Andaman Sea’s moisture, the scattering of sunlight by atmospheric particles, and the island’s clear horizons combine to produce a myriad of hues.

Each sunset is a unique masterpiece, with colors ranging from delicate pastels to fiery reds and deep purples.

Local Lore and Legends

Langkawi isn’t just rich in natural beauty but also in culture and legends. Local tales speak of mythical beings and age-old love stories set against the backdrop of these sunsets.

Some locals believe that the brilliant shades of orange are a canvas of love painted by ancient deities, while others tell tales of dragons and sea spirits bidding farewell to the day. Engaging with these stories adds a layer of depth and magic to the already enchanting sunset experience.

An Unchanging Witness

Through centuries, while empires have risen and fallen, and the world around has undergone transformations, the sunsets of Langkawi have remained a constant, an eternal witness to time’s passage. It’s humbling and awe-inspiring to think of the countless individuals through history who’ve stood at the island’s edge, captivated by the same natural spectacle that draws us today.

Tips for the Perfect Sunset Cruise Experience

Embarking on a sunset cruise in Langkawi promises to be one of the most memorable parts of your vacation. However, to make the most of this experience and ensure that everything goes smoothly, a bit of preparation and insight can go a long way. Here are some tried-and-tested tips that will elevate your sunset cruising experience:

Choose the Right Cruise for You

Before booking, determine what kind of experience you’re seeking. Are you after luxury and exclusivity, or do you crave a traditional, cultural experience? Do you want added activities or prefer a simple, quiet sail? Identifying your preferences will lead you to the ideal cruise option.

Dress Appropriately

While the idea is to look fabulous against the setting sun, prioritize comfort. Soft, breathable fabrics are recommended. If you’re on an open boat, a light jacket or shawl might come in handy as the sea can get breezy post-sunset. Remember, flat shoes or sandals are safer and more comfortable on a boat deck than high heels.

Arrive Early

It’s wise to get to the departure point a bit earlier than the stipulated time. This ensures a smooth boarding process, and you might even score the best spot on the boat for unobstructed views.

Pack Light, but Smart

Carry a small bag with essentials like sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and perhaps a camera. Don’t forget a bottle of water to stay hydrated. Some cruises might not allow outside food or drinks, so it’s a good idea to check in advance.

Protect Your Tech

If you’re bringing along electronics, such as a camera or smartphone, consider packing them in a waterproof bag or pouch. Sea spray can sometimes be unpredictable!

Engage with the Crew

The crew aboard the cruises, especially the traditional ones, often have a wealth of knowledge about Langkawi, its waters, and its legends. Engaging in a chat with them can provide enriching insights and fun stories.

Respect the Environment

It’s essential to remember that the beautiful waters and surroundings of Langkawi need protection. Avoid throwing anything overboard, and if you’re on an eco-friendly cruise, follow the guidelines provided to minimize your environmental footprint.

Know Your Sea Legs

If you’re prone to seasickness, consider taking preventative measures. This could be in the form of over-the-counter motion sickness pills or natural remedies like ginger. It’s always best to consult with a physician before your trip.

While it’s tempting to lean out for the perfect shot or sit on the edge of the boat, always prioritize safety. Adhere to the safety guidelines provided at the start of the cruise.

Immerse in the Moment

While capturing the sunset on your camera or phone is great, don’t forget to take a moment to simply soak in the beauty. Feel the wind in your hair, the scent of the sea, and the magic of the colors in the sky. It’s these undistracted moments that often become the most cherished memories.

In conclusion, a sunset cruise in Langkawi is a journey of the senses. With a touch of preparation and mindfulness, you can ensure that this journey is nothing short of perfect.

It was a sunset to remember. Friendly service, a fantastic boat, good food, generous amount of drinks, and a beautiful sunset creates the perfect recipe for a sunset cruise in Langkawi. And that is exactly what you get with Naam when you book their Evening Dinner Cruise .

It was the love affair with island life, the ocean, and sunsets that drew me to do a sunset cruise in Langkawi. After a full day of exploring Langkawi island, there is no better way to welcome the night than on-board an 85 ft boat sailing through the picturesque straits with islands that surround Langkawi.

The cruise was a gathering of visitors from around the world. A great way to meet other fellow travellers, share stories of the island, and enjoy the sunset and a good meal together.

The Naam Sunset Cruise in Langkawi

The verdict, getting around langkawi, loved this post pin it, it’s more fun.

It was late in the afternoon, around 4:30pm when we all met at the Jetty. The usual pick up point is usually at the Langkawi Yacht Club, but for today we met at the Resorts World jetty.

Greeting us is a very chirpy man from Naam – Mark was his name. He greeted every guest personally, welcoming them to Langkawi and offering them a pleasant journey.

With all guests ready at the jetty, it was not long before we were ready to board. For our cruise, we boarded the 85ft Blue Dolphin Yacht. And boy was the Naam yacht spacious, comfortable, and it had a touch of luxury.

Upon boarding, we were welcomed straight away by the crew who offered us a refreshing towel and a mocktail.

Naam Sunset Cruise in Langkawi - Blue Dolphin Boat | Hello Raya Blog

For me, the first item on the agenda was to explore! Upstairs, downstairs, inside and outside. There was quite a bit of roaming around. The cruise was spacious, which meant it never felt too crowded. There were plenty of areas to sit and enjoy the ride. We had about 15 on our trip and the maximum Naam will ever book onto this sunset cruise in Langkawi is 30 pax.

Off we sailed into the sunset, heading further south of Langkawi out into the Andaman Sea. After about an hour of sailing, we ancorched down and guests were given the opportunity to jump off and go for a swim. Of course, Hubby took the opportunity to splash around in the ocean. We had forgotten a towel, but it was never an issue because Naam had plenty for guest use.

From start to finish, there was never a shortage of drinks and good service. There were always Naam staff around who were attentive making sure that you were enjoying your trip and that your drink was topped up. And there was great music played on-board, which mean it was always a bubbly atmosphere on the cruise. Guests were also welcome to play their own jams…and if you really wanted to start a party, Naam even have a karaoke set on-board!

After swimming, we continued cruising further down the Andaman Sea off Langkawi. Never at high speeds, but slow and steady. This made it so much more relaxing, allowing for a beautiful cool breeze and never a feeling that you have to hold on too tight. It was truly so comfortable that I wish I could have stayed overnight on the boat.

As the sun began to the set, and the colors of the sky changed from light blue to tinges of burnt orange, pinks, and royal blue, the dinner was ready.

Naam Sunset Cruise in Langkawi - Blue Dolphin Boat | Hello Raya Blog

It was a buffet of food, offering a variety of meats and vegetarian options. My favorite item was definitely the chicken satay, which deliciously paired well with the peanut sauce. Then there was the Tahu Sumbat, which is stuffed fried tofu with fresh cucumber, bean sprouts and carrots – I haven’t had this in AGES and loved it. There was a sweet chilli sauce to match with it, but I loved the tofu with Naam’s peanut sauce…yum!

There was plenty of food for everyone, so no one had to fight over the buffet. All the food was fresh and it was quite good. A perfect way to enjoy this Langkawi cruise. And of course, to top it all off, the sunset was beautiful.

As dinner finished, everyone sat back and relaxed the remaining part of the cruise. The breeze was cooling and the air was fresh – there was nowhere else I would have rather been. All guests on-board were in wonderful spirits, so happy to end the day on a high note with Naam.

I could do this cruise over and over again and not get bored of sailing in this beautiful part of the world. And best of all, Naam have managed to take CRUISING and turn it into a memorable experience. From start to end, the service was fantastic, the food and beverage selection was great, and the boat was amazing. It’s really hard to fault this experience because it was one of the highlights of our holiday in Langkawi.

Naam Sunset Cruise in Langkawi - Blue Dolphin Boat | Hello Raya Blog

It’s best to book your sunset cruise in Langkawi in advanced. For the sunset and dinner cruise , prices start at RM325 per person (A$105 / U$80) for a 3-hour cruise experience with other guests. Naam usually host this experience on either their Sea Falcon Catamaran, or if that is not available, it is hosted on their Blue Dolphin Yacht. Buffet dinner, an open bar (including wine & beer), a fully staffed boat, towels for swimming, great music, and a beautiful sunset are all included in this experience.

Now if you do prefer something more private or if you have a group of friends who would like to charter a boat, get in touch with Naam as they can put together the perfect package for you.

The best way to get around Langkawi is truly by hiring your own car. There’s minimal public transportation and taxis are limited. It’s quite easy to drive in Langkawi, so if you have your license, I highly recommend hiring a car. And if you do so, you definitely should check out GoCar.

What a special and unique way to get a different perspective on a city- I can only imagine how beautiful the water was in the evening light. Plus, that food looks absolutely delicious. If I ever visit Langkawi, I will be sure to hop aboard a sunset cruise!

Well the sunset looks very worth taking this cruise. But reading your review has piqued my interest to try the vegetarian dish you mentioned – the Tahu Sambat! Good to hear it was so enjoyable you’d do it all over again!

What a coincidence. I am actually planning a trip to Singapore and Malaysia. And I don’t have time to take an overnight kind of cruise but I did want to include a cruise experience. Sunset cruise with dinner sounds just perfect and seems you had a good time at this Langkawi cruise.I will check this out for my trip

First of all, you look amazing in that orange romper and your lipstick was on point. I would love to be on this sunset cruise because the atmosphere was so good. I love a place with amazing service and the fact they were topping off your drink sounds like heaven! The cruise ship also looked clean, well maintained and the staff looked so nice!

Ohh this looks amazing Soraya!! I was in Langkawi earlier this year but didn’t think to do a cruise! You’ve made me want to go back!! Kristie – you.theworld.wandering

On our last night with Naturally Langkawi we were treated to a Langkawi sunset dinner cruise on the Blue Dolphin departing from the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club with NAAM Adventures . We had already spent a full day with NAAM Adventures on Paradise Island 101 so we knew that this cruise would be top notch.

You’re also welcome to join my South East Asia Travel Planning Facebook group – it’s a great resource for all things travel in SE Asia!

Paradise Island 101 is a man made adventure island where we spent the day with the whole place to ourselves. The kids played on the aqua park, zip lining over the water, jet skiing, and had a go on the banana boat. How much fun can you fit into one day! The kids loved every minute of it.

PINPOST

Having experienced one adventure with NAAM I was keen to experience their Langkawi Sunset Dinner Cruise. We arrived at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club and were greeted by NAAM staff and taken to our 80ft yacht, the Blue Dolphin. This was the biggest vessel I had ever been on that wasn’t a ferry or a ship! I don’t know much about yachts but I can tell you this one would have cost a few dollars!

Sunset cruise - NAAM Adventures

The Langkawi sunset dinner includes welcome refreshments and a cool towel, buffet dinner, soft drink, beer and house wine. The cruise duration is approximately 3 hours.

To book your own experience I highly recommend using Klook Luxury Sunset Cruise , you’ll secure a competitive price and it will ensure you get the date that you are looking for, particularly if you only have a short stay planned.

Our Experience

We boarded with 7 other guests and were greeted by the lovely NAAM hosts. As you board, the crew place your shoes in a box that you don’t see again until the end of the cruise. We were then greeted by the rest of the crew with a refreshing juice and cold hand towel. It was a warm evening so the kids really enjoyed the hand towel and placed them around their necks.

Enjoying our pre-dinner drinks up top of the Blue Dolphin

The kids were keen to explore the cabin and were off as soon as they had finished their drinks. First up they headed straight to the bridge and checked out the captains spot and then up the stairs to the fly deck. This area had lounges around the perimeter with a roof and a great view across to the Yacht Club. There was a table in the middle to rest your drink on. By now I was relaxed and enjoying an ice cold beer which I helped myself to on the bench inside the cabin on the way through.

The kids of course weren’t happy to stay put so were off to investigate again, they were the only kids on the cruise and the crew where fantastic with them. The crew had welcomed all the guests by this time and we were heading out of the marina towards the open sea. Craig and I decided it was too warm on the roof deck so headed inside for some respite.

The inside of the cabin, the living area!

We headed inside to the lounge room that was set up with a lounge and coffee table and an 8 seat dining table with ample bench space around the sides, we soon decided the scenery outside was to good to miss so headed back out and sat at the table on the rear deck.

Beautiful scenery, too nice to stay inside.

The cruise headed out towards the southern islands off Langkawi towards Pulau Tiba and the Danang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park. Langkawi is comprised of 99 islands that create a dramatic backdrop of lush forests covering rocky mountain formations. The landscape is just as big a draw card as the sunset cruise itself.

From the back of the Blue Dolphin

Buffet Dinner

The Blue Dolphin headed out and pulled in close to Pulau Tiba, the crew had set up the buffet dinner and the guests were encouraged to help themselves. The buffet consisted of chicken, rice and salads, there was also a napoli pasta that the kids enjoyed.

Buffet dinner is served!

The kids again ate their body weight in satay chicken sticks. It was a lovely and relaxing atmosphere and we had the perfect table at the back to enjoy some shade while eating our dinner with the sun setting between the islands.

Perfect spot to eat dinner on the Blue Dolphin

Mobile Pool

As we were finishing up dinner, I noticed another boat approaching the rear of our boat with a large inflatable square attached to it. We were all very eager to see what was happening and what this inflatable would be used for. One of the crew members jumped onto the back of the vessel and grabbed some ropes from the crew on the other boat. They clipped the ropes to the back of our vessel and pushed the net into the water.

Here's our mobile pool!

The crew then explained to the kids that it’s a floating mobile pool to swim in! We obviously didn’t read the brief too well and didn’t bring our swimmers. You can imagine the look the kids were giving me right now hey!! I suggested they jump in with their undies and life jacket on as no one would see anything anyway.

Having fun in the ocean pool with Dad

After much bewildering angst, they decided mum was right and changed into their life jackets and jumped on in. Dad had his quick dry shorts on and jumped in too. I on the other hand did not but was happy enough to have 30mins to myself and enjoy the sunset while I watched the kids having fun off the back of the boat.

I had a nice relaxing 30 mins to myself!

Towels are provided by the crew when you get out so the kids took off their life jackets and got dry with the towel around them. It was still very warm so they dried very quickly. The little boat returned and the mobile pool was unclipped and the ropes handed back and the little boat headed off to where it had come from!

Langkawi sunset

By this time the sky was starting to turn a lovely shade of pink. It was a vivid sunset in the end but it was more your soft pastel pink mostly. As long as its not raining I’m sure all the sunsets would be lovely. We sat and had some fresh fruit and watched the sky dance with a number of different pinks. Last drinks were called and I grabbed a Tiger beer for the ride back to the marina.

We loved a sunset cruise with NAAM Adventures, it was a lovely way to finish our holiday in Langkawi. The crew were very friendly and great with the kids and the whole operation ran like clockwork. The Blue Dolphin was an impressive vessel. With 4 ensuite staterooms below deck I was quickly hatching a plan to stowaway underneath there for a while. I’m sure they would never notice 5 people missing from disembarkation at the end of the cruise!!

I loved the quirky mobile pool just a add a touch more to the already awesome experience. It was fantastic and was of course a great way to entertain the kids. Who doesn’t love swimming in the ocean in a giant inflatable pool! It’s things like this that the kids will remember for years.

Langkawi sunset

Most sunsets are pretty spectacular unless its raining so you are pretty much guaranteed a decent show each night. I’m glad we went on our last night as it was a nice relaxing way to finish our Langkawi journey. The trip back to the marina seemed to go so much quicker than the trip out, funny how that always happens.

Kids with the awesome crew from the Blue Dolphin

We were greeted by Mark, the manager of NAAM Adventures, when we disembarked. Its a long story that you can read in our Paradise Island 101 post that is linked above. Mark had our drone that we had lost during the day at Paradise Island (Craig’s fault!), I was so overwhelmed with emotion that they had gone to so much trouble to retrieve it from the ocean for us. It just shows what type of business NAAM Adventures is. We can’t speak more highly of the NAAM Team, I am certain any experience you have with them will be fantastic.

With Mark from NAAM Adventures, he's an absolute champion

We loved Langkawi and found that there were so many things you can do in Langkawi with kids including, Langkawi’s top tourist attraction SkyCab and Sky Bridge , Kilim Karst Geological Park , Paradise Island 101 and Aseania Hotel Cultural Show . We can confirm that the kids loved all these experiences, click the links to read our full reviews.

While in Langkawi we stayed at the Meritus Pelangi Resort and Spa and I highly recommend it as a family friendly resort with a beautiful beach with even better sunsets.

Are you a sunrise or sunset kind of person? Tell me in the comments below.

Safe travels,

Sal & Co.

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).
