Over the years, the pros in the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab have tested 45 different travel mugs for hot and cold temperature retention, durability, resistance to leakage, ease of use and more. In our most recent tests, we called in samples of the latest travel mugs and used them both in the office and on our commutes to see how well they held up. We noted how they felt, how they traveled and, unavoidably, how they held up when dropped. Ahead, we rounded up the best travel coffee mugs based on picks that performed well during testing or come from brands that we trust.

It will keep hot coffee hot — in fact, the brand is so confident that it offers a five-year warranty on heat retention. Iced coffee fans will appreciate that the mouth is large enough to handle big ice cubes for that extra chill.

Our tester noted that the vacuum-sealed lid keeps water cold all day: "I always grab it from my backpack and think, 'There's no way this could still possibly be cool anymore,' and I'm always pleasantly surprised." We also like the slim design, which is easy to grip and fits nicely into backpacks or totes. It comes in several colors and a 12-ounce version.

This stainless steel mug is a great affordable option, especially considering its large 20-ounce size. What's more, it claims to retain the temperature of your coffee for up to six hours. Online reviewers like that it fits easily into car holders and won't sweat when filled with ice. The tumbler includes two lids: The featured slider lid as well as a flip-style lid , so you can choose which you prefer for the beverage you're drinking. It also comes with a reusable straw and a straw cleaner, though we found the straw was short and inconvenient to use.

Stanley has been in the thermal carafe game since 1913. This travel coffee mug delivers the company's insulated design and also includes a push-button "trigger action" lid that keeps the mug sealed unless pushed. We liked that it means the spout stays closed when you're not hands-on . Our pros did note that it requires some level of strength and dexterity to hold the button while sipping. This mug is available in several colors (even camo!) and in a 20-ounce size.

This 10-ounce travel mug from Avana is perfectly sized for espresso-based drinks, but it's also available in 20-ounce and 30-ounce versions. Kitchen Appliances & Innovation Lab Director Nicole Papantoniou likes that the simple two-piece design is easy to clean because the lid is just one solid piece, unlike many other lids. This is particularly helpful if you like coffee drinks with foam, like latte beverages , that can gunk up lids over time. The contoured mouthpiece makes sipping easy, but it doesn't seal closed, so watch out for leaks. The double-walled insulated construction keeps drinks hot or cold and helps prevent condensation from collecting on the outside.

We love when kitchen gear comes apart for a thorough cleaning, but would rather skip the guesswork that can follow when it's time to reassemble. The OXO travel coffee mug with SimplyClean lid solves this pain point: The four-piece lid is color-coded, numbered and etched with assembly instructions . It's easy to take apart and clean by hand (or in the dishwasher), and simple to put back together for your next cup. Never mind, it's also comfortable to hold. The mug comes in four other colors as well as a 20-ounce size.

Hydro Flask has a huge following when it comes to water bottles — in fact, we named the brand our best stainless steel water bottle — and we're fans of its coffee mugs (called coffee flasks), too . GH Lab tests found that its stainless steel, vacuum-insulated body kept drinks hot and cold for hours, and it was quite leakproof. Hydro Flask also offers a separate wide-mouth lid , which can be handy for cold beverages. (The included lid twists to open and close.) But, be careful drinking hot beverages with a wide mouth as it can spill easily. It's available in a range of colors as well as 16- and 20-ounce sizes , and the little handle helps make it easier to transport.

This SmrtMugg travel mug — rated our best self-heating travel mug — has built-in heat technology to keep coffee hot. Its large battery on the bottom — the manufacturer claims a 10-hour battery life — kept coffee hot (above the target temp of 135˚F) for the full four hours of our Lab tests . Once you get the hang of the controls at the bottom of the mug, the clear digital readout is helpful in setting the temperature and turning off the mug. This travel mug also aced our leak tests. Our tester noted that while the push-button lid is easy to use, the edge of the button can bump your lip while drinking.

This sleek 16-ounce bottle has been redesigned to fit more comfortably in your hand. Though we have not tested this model in the Lab, our pros appreciate that i ts large size and wide mouth can easily fit ice cubes , which makes it a great choice for frequent iced coffee drinkers. We have also found other S'well products to be good at maintaining temperatures. It seals shut and is leakproof; plus, it will keep your drinks cold (or hot!) all day. The S'well comes in a ton of color options as well as 12-ounce and 20-ounce sizes.

This coffee mug from Contigo is super comfortable in your hands, and it has a unique locking feature that makes it leak- and spill-proof. When you want to sip (or chug) your coffee, just press the button to release the seal. During your commute, you can lock the button so you don't accidentally press it while on the go . It's also completely dishwasher-safe, even the lid. One tester did note that with hot beverages, the lid can feel too hot to handle.

This popular Yeti mug looks just like a traditional coffee mug, but it's designed to keep your drinks hot or cold and comes with a lid to prevent unnecessary spills. The sturdy and comfortable handle is large enough for even wide hands. It's available in a dozen different colors as well as sizes from 10- to 30 ounces. Another bonus is that when you buy from the Yeti site, you can customize your product with a short text, a monogram or a logo. Our tester found that the lid slides open easily but noted that it's not leakproof. The brand has also introduced the Rambler Stronghold lid , which screws on (rather than presses in), which we're actively testing in the Lab.

Fellow Carter Everywhere Travel Mug

This little cylinder makes a statement, with testers loving how compact it was. The sleek stainless steel shell contains a ceramic liner intended to keep your coffee free of metallic flavors. The screw top reveals a wide mouth that you can sip from any angle and is large enough for adding ice . It comes in seven additional colors as well as a smaller, 12-ounce size.

W&P Porter Ceramic Mug with Protective Silicone Sleeve

Papantoniou likes that the inside of this travel mug is easy-to-clean porcelain, which generally helps to prevent buildup over time that can negatively impart flavors . She also noted that it keeps coffee "nice and hot right off the bat." It includes a simple shape and a silicone sleeve for a comfortable non-slip grip. It comes in several colors and a couple of terrazzo prints . It's also available in a 16-ounce size.

Starbucks Classic Green & White Traveler Tumbler Coffee Mug

Starbucks fans will appreciate that they can purchase this mug online rather than solely in the stores. The ceramic mug is easy to use — the lid just pops into place and is surrounded by a rubber seal to help keep it (and the coffee) in place — and easy to clean . "It keeps coffee warm like a standard ceramic mug would, and the lid helps to keep things a little warmer for longer," our tester says. "I like that it's not scalding hot like in a metal mug, so I can enjoy my coffee without burning my mouth." The 12-oz size is perfect for refills of Starbucks tall drinks.

STOJO Collapsible Travel Cup with Straw

Stojo's collapsible coffee cup makes it possible to travel light while avoiding single-use plastics. The brand impressed our pros with its other collapsible offerings — the Collapsible Bowl won a 2021 Kitchen Gear Award . Similarly, this travel cup is well designed: The cup includes a heat sleeve that provides a structured grip for the squishy silicone cup, and the 16-ounce size includes a straw (which is great for iced coffee or if you prefer to bring your own cup to fountain machines). The collapsed cup is just two inches in size. It's both microwave and dishwasher safe, with 8-ounce , 12-ounce and 24-ounce sizes.

MiiR Flip Traveler

With a 4.8-rating on Amazon, this stainless steel thermos comes in a slim design and an easy-to-open lid. Though we have not tested this pick in the Lab, we like its focus on giving back: T he bottom of each travel mug is printed with a "Give Code" that you can enter at Mirr's website for details on the brand's corporate giving , which is funded through every purchase. The Flip Traveler is available in several colors and 12-ounce and 16-ounce sizes .

JOCO Glass Reusable Coffee Cup

This glass bodied Joco mug has a colorful silicone lid and a matching thermal sleeve. It's microwave (and dishwasher!) safe, which makes it a great option if you like to reheat your coffee throughout the day. Since the glass is clear, it's easy to see how much coffee you have left — and hit your preferred shade when you add your creamer. Take note that the lid does not seal shut, so while it might be handy for car commuting, this isn't one that's great for tossing in your bag.

Zoku Instant Iced Coffee Maker

For iced coffee fiends, this mug is for you. Get your cuppa in flash: Simply store the inner core of the mug in the freezer, then slip the frozen cup into the protective plastic sleeve and pour in hot coffee. Our tester found that the travel mug will chill your coffee rapidly without watering it down with ice cubes. (The brand actually uses the same concept for its ice cream maker .) Slide in the lid with the provided straw, and you're ready for undiluted iced coffee — though you can add ice if you prefer. One caveat is that the freezable core holds only 11 ounces, which some might find too small.

How we test travel coffee mugs

When the experts in the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab test travel coffee mugs, they use thermocouples to track the temperature of the liquid inside the mug over time. Many of the mugs on this list were tested at home over months (even over commutes) to assess their durability, ease of use and temperature retention.

Our pros also evaluate the mugs for stability, cleanability and comfort of both holding and drinking. They test whether the mug is easy to open and close, and they drop each mug to assess its durability. To test for leaking, our pros roll the mug around on its side as well as turn it upside down and shake it vigorously.

How to find the best travel coffee mug for you

✔️ Material : Many travel coffee mugs are stainless steel, though our list also includes porcelain, glass and silicone options. Double-walled construction is common with stainless steel mugs, and that can help keep your beverage hot or cold longer. Other materials may not be insulated. If you opt for a glass mug, consider borosilicate glass, which is tempered to prevent shattering with hot liquids and can be more durable if dropped. Porcelain mugs are generally easy to clean, and because the material is nonporous, the mug is unlikely to develop odd flavors. Silicone is a great lightweight option, but it can get warm if it does not have a heat sleeve.

✔️ Lid : Some lids are more spill-proof than others. Our Lab experts particularly love the locking feature on the Contigo Luxe Autoseal Vacuum-Insulated Travel Coffee Mug , which adds a level of safety if you plan to toss your mug in your bag. Lids that screw on are also often leak-resistant. Those who prefer a more traditional-style mug with a handle may find that slider lids are common; evaluate those for leaking, as some are prone to dribbles (or worse). Note that spill-proof lids often require more care to clean.

✔️ Washability : Check to see if the mug is dishwasher-safe. If it needs to be washed by hand, make sure you can thoroughly clean it with a sponge or bottle brush .

Travel Mug For Nespresso, Which Mugs Fit Your Machine?

When you’re trying to decide which Nepresso machine to purchase, one thing you might be considering is whether the machine will be compatible with your cups and travel mugs. Or you may be looking for travel mugs for your Nespresso and trying to find a travel mug that fits under Nespresso machines. Nespresso don’t appear to publish this type of information, so hopefully you find this article helpful to find a travel mug for Nespresso! 

I’ve also included a solution below to workaround the height limitations of the machines for those who want to brew into large cups. 

We detail the dimensions of each mug/cup in our reviews so you can also compare those with the information here. This should help you to find a matching cup or travel mug for Nespresso.

• Travel Mug for Nespresso Vertuo Machines

I put together the chart below for your reference. It shows the various brewing sizes for Nespresso machines. To allow for cream and milk, your coffee cup should be roughly twice the volume of these brewing sizes e.g. a 16oz cup may be required for an 8oz brew. The size of mug needed will really depend on how you like to brew your coffee. See my full article about Nespresso Pod Sizes for more details. 

Each of the Nespresso machines will have a limited spout height, either with the drip tray installed or removed. Because of this, you may have to brew into a smaller cup first and then transfer your coffee to your cup. This problem may arise if you want to brew a large drink or drink from a larger cup. 

If you do want to brew straight into your larger mug, you can still do it by using this solution. With each of the Nespresso machines, by placing the machine on a stand rather than the countertop you can increase the height of the spout. One way to achieve this is to place the machine on a Nespresso pod drawer (or more than 1), or alternatively any stand which can support the width and depth of the machine. When using this setup, you will need to position the machine right at the front of the stand. This will mean that the spout is overhanging the stand and can pour into a mug placed in front of the stand. I’ve included a couple of photos here to show the setup. 

This will only be an option when you can remove the drip tray and there is no other non-removable base on the machine. You should be careful to get the positioning right so that the machine remains stable and the machine does not pour coffee over your counter. 

Nespresso Machine Stand Examples

These options are all handle-less across the front of the drawer so that a cup can sit right up against the stand. Most of the Nespresso machines will fit on top of these, but it is best to check the dimensions of your preferred machine. These would raise the height of the machine by up to 3.5 inches. 

Travel Mug For Nespresso Vertuo Machines

Below I’ve looked at some of the most popular Vertuo machines and provided some information that will help you to select a cup or travel mug for Nespresso. 

Vertuo Plus

The Vertuo Plus machine can be used with cups measuring up to 6 1/4″ (16cm) with the drip tray on the lowest setting. With the drip tray removed, cups measuring up to 7 1/2″ (19cm) in height can fit under the coffee outlet or spout on the Vertuo Plus machine. 

In either of these modes, the Vertuo Plus should accommodate most typical coffee cups and mugs at home. Shown below is the Lifver 20oz mug. This is quite a large wide mug, which fits ok but demonstrates that wider mugs may have issues with resting on the drip tray or with the spout not being properly positioned over the opening.

If you want the convenience of brewing straight into your travel mug, some may be too tall. I tried a selection, including Nepresso’s own Medium Nomad and Touch travel cups, which fit without issue with the drip tray fitted. With the drip tray removed, most mid sized travel mugs should fit under the spout, however larger volume mugs like the YETI 30oz mug will not fit under the spout.

The Vertuo Pop machine is designed to be compact. As a result there is limited space beneath the spout to place your cup. With the drip tray in place, cups with a maximum height of 3 1/8″ (8cm) will fit, which makes this most suited to an espresso cup.

With the drip tray removed, the machine can be used with cups up a maximum height of 4 3/4″ (12cm) which will allow most standard size coffee cups to be used. 

Vertuo Next

The Vertuo Next is another popular Nespresso machine and has very similar dimensions to the Vertuo Plus. 

The Vertuo Next machine can be used with cups measuring up to 6 1/4″ (16cm) with the drip tray on the lowest setting. With the drip tray removed, cups measuring up to 7 1/4″ (18cm) in height can fit under the coffee outlet or spout on the Vertuo Next machine. Again this means it will likely be compatible with most of your cups and mugs.

Travel Mug For Nespresso Original Machines

The Original range of coffee machines offers a classic espresso experience and for these machines only smaller travel mugs will likely fit under the machine. Most of the spout heights on these machines are low and most have fixed bases so the workaround above would not apply. 

Nespresso Lattissima Touch

The Lattissima Touch machine can be used with cups measuring only 3 1/2″ (9cm) with the drip tray installed. With the drip tray removed, cups measuring up to 5 3/4″ (14.5cm) in height can fit under the coffee outlet or spout on the Lattissima Touch machine. 

The base of the machine is fixed so you cannot remove it, the maximum cup height is 5 3/4″, you may be able to get a slightly taller cup under the spout by tipping it to manoeuvre it under. 

As shown below, the Fellow Carter Move Mug (8oz) and Nespresso Touch Travel Mug (11oz)  are examples of the size of travel mug which will work with this machine.

Nespresso Travel Mugs

The TOUCH Travel Mug is an attractive, stylish and functional Nespresso mug. It keeps your coffee warm and your hands cool. Its innovative urban design makes it a great choice for the commuter. It holds up to 345 ml and is dishwasher safe. It is not microwave- or freezer-safe, so make sure to wash it before using it. The TOUCH Travel MUGS are dishwasher-safe, but are not microwave- or freezer-safe.

The PS2 is a reusable mug that makes a great gift for your loved one. It features a PS2 and a cork-lined handle for comfort and control. It also has vacuum insulation and excellent temperature regulation. The only downside is the grip band which gets hot when it is filled. It’s dishwasher-safe, but you can wash it by hand. You can also purchase an extra lid, which you can use for another purpose.

A Nescafe travel mug is the perfect companion to your portable coffee machine. The insulated mug will keep your drink hot or cold for 11 or more hours. Its double-walled construction keeps it from sweating outside, which prevents it from losing heat. It can be a good option for those who frequently travel by car. You won’t have to buy a separate travel mug and will save money while drinking your coffee.

Its lid has a silicone gasket around its rim to prevent spills. It also comes with a built-in tea hook, which will work with most tea infusers. You can easily remove the lid from the mug if you need to use it for making tea or a hot chocolate. You can even use it for a cup of espresso. The lid is dishwasher-safe, but it should be washed by hand.

The lid is also made from stainless steel, which is good for durability. It can keep your drink hot or cold for up to five hours. It is dishwasher-safe and has a silicone grip band. However, it has a plastic handle. Those who want a coffee handle should look for a coffee mug that features a silicone grip. You don’t want a plastic mug with a thin silicone band.

The S’well mug is another popular coffee mug on the market. It features triple-walled technology to keep your beverage hot or cold. It also doesn’t sweat. This means that you can drink your coffee anytime, anywhere, without worrying about spills. If you have a Nespresso machine, this mug is an excellent choice for you. It allows you to set the temperature for your cup and not have to worry about your drink.

The Scoop is another feature that will make you want to buy this travel mug. Its lid is made of bamboo fibre and is biodegradable. Its silicone grip band can get very hot when the cup is full. The swivel tab makes it easy to remove the spout, but it can’t be removed easily. The Scoop is another feature to look for. This spout is easy to clean.

The S’well mug is a great choice for frequent travelers. Its double-walled mug will keep your drink hot or cold for up to 11 hours. If you need a tea infuser, it has a built-in tea hook. Its lid also has a lid lock that can be opened or closed by pressing the lever to the left or right. This mug is made to be portable and durable, so it is worth the investment.

The S2 is a popular travel mug for frequent travelers. It has a sleek, traditional enamel finish that’s appropriate for outdoor adventures. It features a comfortable silicone grip band and an extra disk that moves when you open and close the lid. Its silicone grip band gets hot when filled with liquid, but the silicone grip is easy to remove. The mug is dishwasher safe, and it comes with a warranty of five years.

The S2 is the perfect size for your Nespresso coffee. Its maximum capacity is 345 ml. The S2 is the perfect size for a travel mug. City tours in st. petersburg florida: museums, wildlife & more.

Life bounces in museums, cafes and boutique shops along the city's waterfront. But in minutes, the urban yields to the pastoral.  

Drive down Beach Drive in St. Petersburg and you'll see a city in action. Customers sit at café tables outside busy restaurants and watering holes. Shoppers cruise boutiques selling clothing, tea and gifts. The city's Museum of Fine Arts dominates the park next to Tampa Bay, while just a block away the popular new Morean Arts Center welcomes visitors to a display of the vibrant glasswork of Dale Chihuly. This is the essence of the urban experience. But drive for a few minutes and you can take yourself on a city tour in St. Petersburg or go back to nature, complete with wildlife, foliage, flowers, water and solitude. In these places, the noise of traffic yields to the chatter of birds, and the man-made all but disappears. The urban yields to the pastoral; life slows down. Within 15 or 20 minutes from Beach Drive, you can find yourself in these urban refuges:

Florida Botanical Gardens

As though nature weren't beautiful enough, cultivated gardens occupy 30 acres of the Florida Botanical Gardens' sprawling 120-acre preserve, which opened in 2000. The patio garden, for example, features a bridge and gazebo as well as artful arrangements of landscape plants. The herb garden features familiar plants as well as medicinal and ceremonial herbs. Other gardens display tropical fruits as well as plants native to Florida, while other gardens are devoted to succulents, bromeliads, palms and plants that attract butterflies. The remaining 90 acres of the Botanical Gardens are given over to the conservation of fragile ecosystems teeming with wildlife. If you go: 12520 Ulmerton Road, Largo. From downtown, take I-275 north to Roosevelt Boulevard North exit. Turn left at stop sign and continue to Ulmerton Road. Turn left on Ulmerton and continue west to the Botanical Gardens.

The gardens are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day, and the buildings from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Admission is free. Call 727-582-2100 for information or visit www.flbg.org .

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Located on the shore of Lake Maggiore, Boyd Hill has the feel of a land that got overlooked as St. Petersburg grew up around it. Five ecosystems flourish in this 245-acre refuge, home to turtles, gators, coyotes and other Florida wildlife, including enough birds to make Boyd Hill one of the 500 sites on the 2,000-mile Great Florida Birding Trail. More than two miles of trails wind their way through the preserve, facilitating guided tours. Tram tours begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. Overnight camping sites are available. Activities for children take place throughout the year. If you go: 1101 Country Club Way S, St. Petersburg. From downtown, head south on 4th Street S to 6th Avenue S. Turn right (west) to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street (9th Street S). Turn left and head south about three miles to Boyd Hill.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday. Closed Monday. Admission to the preserve is $3 for adults, $1.50 for children 3-16 and free for children under 3. Weedon Island Preserve

Straddling both the Howard Frankland and Gandy bridges, this huge preserve encompasses about 3,700 acres, and provides two ways to explore nature – by water and by land. Two self-guided paddling trails for kayaks and canoes navigate the mangroves and also offer expansive views of Tampa Bay. An interpretative boardwalk trail, opened in 2007, allows visitors to walk comfortably through this coastal ecosystem. Weedon Island also contains a three-story Cultural and Natural History Center featuring exhibits, activities and other events. The Center organizes interpretative tours and hikes, and maintains a library containing materials about the archeology, history and ecology of the area. No longer an island, the preserve takes its name from a doctor named Leslie Weedon, who received the property as a wedding gift from his bride's father, W.B. Henderson, a former Confederate cavalry officer who purchased it in 1886. If you go: 1800 Weedon Drive NE, St. Petersburg. From downtown, head north on 4th Street N to 83rd Avenue N. Turn right (east). The road becomes Patica Road NE, and then San Martin Boulevard. Continue to the entrance to Weedon Island Preserve.

The preserve, part of the Great Florida Birding Trail, is open daily from 7 a.m. to about 15 minutes before sunset. The Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday to Saturday. Call 727-453-6500 or visit weedonislandpreserve.org .

Sawgrass Lake Park

You could get lost at Sawgrass Lake, with its 400 acres of maple swamp, but a mile-long boardwalk keeps visitors out of the water and away from the gators, often found sunning themselves on the bank. An observation tower at the edge of the lake provides a panoramic view of the park. Although located along I-275, the hum of high-speed traffic is barely audible within this spacious preserve, which offers an accessible back-to-nature experience just minutes from the urban bustle. Bring your binoculars if you're into birding. Sawgrass is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail and offers refuge to migrating birds during the fall and spring. You may even spot armadillos, snakes and small mammals such as gophers and chipmunks. If you go: 7400 25th St. N, St. Petersburg. From downtown, take I-275 north and exit westbound at 54th Avenue N. Turn right (north) onto Haines Road, and take a soft right onto 28th Street N. Turn right onto 62nd Avenue N, and then turn left on 25th Street N, which leads right into Sawgrass.

Fort De Soto Park

The fort, built at the start of the 20th century and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, still stands, and visitors come to see the hefty mortars and the Quartermaster Storehouse Museum . But what attracts most people to this 1,000-acre refuge spread over five islands are the opportunities for swimming, fishing, hiking, boating, picnicking, bird watching, kayaking and just plain relaxing. The snow-white beaches lining the 1,100-acre park topped the 2005 list of best beaches compiled annually by “Dr. Beach,” also known as Stephen Leatherman, the director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University in Miami. Even the “Paw Playground” – a 2.5-acre dog park – has a quarter-mile of beachfront. A barrier-free nature trail features six interpretative stations. Permits for metal detectors are available at the park headquarters. If you go: 3500 Pinellas Bayway S, Tierra Verde. From downtown, take I-275 south to the Pinellas Bayway (exit 17, Florida 682 west). Take the Bayway (also known as 54th Avenue S) west to State Highway 679. Turn south (left) and drive until you see the entrance to Fort De Soto Park (about 6.5 miles).

The Quartermaster Museum is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the park itself from 7 a.m. until dark. Fishing piers are always open. Group tours of the fort can be arranged by calling 727-552-1862. For general information, call 727-582-2267 or visit pinellascounty.org/park/05_ft_desoto.htm .
