The updated Tata Safari borrows its design cues from the Curvv concept, which was first displayed at 2023 Auto Expo
Tata has officially unveiled the facelifted 2023 Safari after releasing multiple teasers on its social media handles. The 3-row SUV features a revamped design inspired from the Curvv concept. Pre-launch bookings for the facelifted Safari are now open and if you'd like a closer look at it, you can explore our image gallery, which provides you with details through 10 pictures:
The 2023 Safari facelift boasts a striking redesign, taking inspiration from the Curvv concept. Notable changes include a revamped closed-off grille with color-coded accents and LED DRLs stretching across the entire front end. Below the grille, you'll find rectangular enclosures that house the newly designed LED headlights and fog lamps, enhancing the SUV's overall aggressive and modern look.
When viewed from the side, you'll observe minimal changes, with the newly designed wheels and the introduction of Safari badging on the front doors being the primary updates.
Shifting your focus to the rear, you'll immediately notice a new set of seamlessly connected LED taillights and a revised bumper.
Regarding colour choices, it offers a range of options that includes Cosmic Gold, Galactic Sapphire, Stardust Ash, Stellar Frost, Oberon Black, Supernova Copper, and Lunar Slate.
Upon stepping inside the facelifted Safari, you'll be greeted by a redesigned dashboard with cleaner lines and design elements. It still features a floating infotainment system, now with larger 12.3-inch screen borrowed from the Nexon EV. Just below this screen, you'll find the streamlined air conditioning vents and touch-sensitive controls for the newly introduced dual-zone climate control system.
Further design enhancements include a new 4-spoke steering wheel featuring an illuminated Tata logo and a gear lever inspired by Land Rover's style for the automatic variant. The drive mode selector has also been updated, now featuring a display between the controls.
The 2023 Safari introduces a range of new features, encompassing a fully digital 10.25-inch driver's display, a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, knee airbag (totaling 7 airbags), powered tailgate with gesture-based opening, and rear sunshades.
The vehicle continues to retain desirable features, including ventilated front and second-row seats (available in the 6-seater configuration), connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push-button start, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package.
The 2023 Tata Safari retains its powertrain option, a 170PS 2-litre diesel engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. It's worth noting that the automatic transmission now comes equipped with paddle shifters, catering to those who prefer greater control over gear changes.
Also, the facelifted Safari could come with a higher price tag compared to the current model, which starts at Rs 15.84 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2023 Tata Safari facelift is anticipated to compete head-to-head with rivals like the MG Hector Plus , Hyundai Alcazar , and Mahindra XUV700 7-seater variants in the market.

The country’s third-largest carmaker, Tata Motors, recently took the covers off its new 2023 Safari facelift. The all-new updated iteration of its flagship SUV has been given a massive overhaul from the outside and inside. For the 2023 model year, the company will be offering this new facelifted model in five variants, namely Accomplished, Adventure, Pure, Smart, and Dark. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the list of features offered with the base Smart variant of the Safari.
Exterior Design
First off, in terms of the exterior, the new Safari facelift’s base variant will get the same updated styling. However, to cut costs, the company has made a few changes. With the base variant, Smart, the new Safari will come equipped with the same connected LED DRLs on the front and connected LED taillights at the rear. Apart from that, the company, instead of offering the body-colored elements on the grille, will be offering gloss black elements.

Additionally, the company will be offering the base Smart variant with LED headlights. However, there will be no LED fog lights. On the side profile, the Tata Safari facelift will also be missing out on the new 18-inch alloy wheel design and will get the same 17-inch silver alloy wheels as the outgoing model. Moving on to the rear, the SUV will be missing out on a rear window wiper; however, it will get the defogger and the same LED taillights as mentioned above.
Moving on to the interior of the base Smart variant of the Safari facelift, the SUV will come with Ash Grey fabric upholstery, height-adjustable seat belts for the driver and co-driver, 3-point seat belts with reminders for all seats, central locking, all power windows, a fully automatic temperature control system, and ISOFIX. Apart from these, the SUV will also come equipped with Smart A-type and C-type chargers in all three rows, 2nd-row seats with a 60:40 split, 3rd-row seats with a 50:50 split, 2nd and 3rd-row seats with AC vents, and a perimetric alarm system. The Safari facelift will also get a tilt and telescopic steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo as well.
Safety Features
As for the safety features, even in the base variant, Tata Motors has provided the Safari with a ton of features. The list of safety features includes 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, Electronic Stability Program, hill hold control, traction control, roll-over mitigation, corner stability control, brake disc wiping, after-impact braking, panic brake alerts, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring system, rear parking sensors, and electronically adjustable ORVMs.
Just like the top-spec models, the base Smart variant will also come equipped with the Kryotec 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine. This is the same engine that currently powers the outgoing Safari. It generates a maximum power of 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque. For the base Smart variant, this engine will only be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Additionally, the base Smart variant will only come available in two color options, namely Stellar Frost and Lunar Slate.

2023 Tata Safari review - a new chapter in Tata's SUV evolution
Tata Motors has been making significant strides in reshaping its SUV lineup. They recently introduced thoroughly refreshed models of the Nexon and Nexon EV, and the eagerly-anticipated Punch EV seems to be just around the corner. What is creating headlines of them at the moment though is the flagship Safari and its 5-seater counterpart, the Harrier - both of which have been updated significantly. We have a detailed review of the Harrier , too, but now we delve into the new 2023 Tata Safari 's most striking features, starting with its design.
The 2023 Tata Safari introduces a range of exciting design updates. Most notably, a large grille with a single-piece design sets it apart from the Harrier, giving it an imposing stance. Subtle 'Safari' branding on the doors with an updated logo adds a touch of class to the SUV.
One design element that particularly caught our eye is the stunning 19-inch wheels. Their two-tone finish and intricate hexagon centre design not only look fantastic but also injects a sporty element into the overall design. Regrettably, these wheels are not transferrable to the older Hexa, but they can be retrofitted on both old and new Harrier models.
The straight lines on the bodywork emphasise the Safari's upright stance and length, clearly distinguishing it from the Harrier. Even the grille protrudes forward a bit more, adding to its upright fascia. The tie-pin-like Safari badging in the headlights adds a touch of sophistication.
The front end is dominated by a full-width LED strip, vertically stacked headlamps, and two-pot fog lamps, creating a commanding presence. The startup animation for the headlights and taillights further enhances the premium appeal. Moving to the rear, the design strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and ruggedness, with horizontal lines and vertical sculptural elements. Notably, there's a distinctive light signature that sets it apart from the Harrier.
One standout feature is the use of hot foiling technology in the grille, a first in the segment, which adds an extra layer of sophistication and establishes a stronger visual connection with the Land Rovers.
Stepping inside the 2023 Tata Safari, you'll be further impressed. The cabin retains its spaciousness, but now, there are pinstripes in the inlay panels, reminiscent of luxury cars. While these pinstripes provide a nice touch, it's worth noting that they are printed and not actual metal veins.
The cabin is loaded with screens, featuring a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, and even a tiny screen for the terrain mode selector, akin to a smartwatch. These screens are controlled by a new standalone processing unit, ensuring smooth performance and a more intuitive user interface. Soft-touch materials throughout the cabin add to the premium feel. Electronic touch controls for the air conditioning and a four-spoke phygital steering wheel with an illuminated logo make it clear that this is a high-tech cockpit, though some switches and plastic touchpoints in less common areas still feel somewhat basic.
However, there are a few downsides to consider. Glossy surfaces in the cabin are visually appealing but prone to scratches. Some of the controls, like the stalks behind the wheel, can be a bit of a reach, which might be inconvenient while driving. In the instrumentation, there's no MAP view for Google Maps on Apple CarPlay, only Apple Maps. The suede panels around the windows tend to accumulate dust, and the large wing mirrors create wind noise and affect cornering visibility. The shift-by-wire gear selector in the automatic variant, while a step forward, could be smoother. These are personal nitpicks and may vary from one person to another.
Tata has placed a strong emphasis on safety, offering six standard airbags, with a seventh available in top trims. The inclusion of features like 'Boss Mode' for the rear left passenger adds convenience, and various exterior and interior trim combinations known as Personas allow for a somewhat personalised experience while making colour and upholstery choices.
The lighter upholstery option may soil easily, so keep that in mind. On the tech front, the integration of Alexa Car2Home is a welcome addition. If you have compatible Alexa devices at home, you can use voice commands to control various home functions, adding convenience to your daily routine - like starting the coffee machine, switching the home lights or air conditioning etc as you are arriving home.
Connectivity is a strong suit then, and you also get voice-controlled dual-zone automatic climate control. However, it's worth noting that there are no individual microphones to detect driver and passenger commands, so you'll need to specify whom you're addressing. Rear window blinds and ventilated seats in the second row create a comfortable atmosphere. Ambient lighting extends to the panoramic roof too, which can be opened using voice commands, offering a convenient experience much like the competition. Additionally, the JBL audio system is upgraded with a tenth speaker placed on the dashboard. There are 13 audio modes, including one that activates only the front speakers, perfect for keeping the rear passengers undisturbed.
Driving Dynamics
In terms of driving dynamics, too, the 2023 Tata Safari has made some strides. New driving modes affect the weight of the Electronic Power Steering, addressing past concerns about the heavy steering feel with the hydraulic setup. Sport mode continues to provide the weighted feel, while Comfort or Eco modes make the steering significantly lighter and more convenient for daily chores.
The Sport mode enhances throttle and engine response too, making it especially useful on mountain roads and inclines, even for non-enthusiasts. The introduction of three terrain modes - Normal, Wet, and Rough - allows for adaptability in various driving conditions. Although the Safari is front-wheel drive and lacks all-wheel-drive options, the tire choices and suspension setup mitigate the need for frequent traction control interventions. Most mild off-road trails can be tackled in Normal mode itself.
The safety features are well-rounded, including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), and the addition of Adaptive Cruise Control that adjusts speed to match the vehicle in front, with a 3-second acceleration delay built in to anticipate unexpected obstacles. In panic situations, the vehicle uses automatic emergency braking and includes features such as pre-brake fill. Even in non-emergency braking, the Safari activates hazard lights when the rear radars detect a tailgating vehicle. Some features like Lane Keep Assist, are expected to be added to the production model.
Powertrain Performance
As before, the Safari continues to use the Fiat-sourced 170PS diesel engine, which is inherently a bit noisy and unrefined, but there are no pedal vibrations to complain about. It delivers a decent performance with a punchy midrange. There's some turbo-lag, but it's manageable and the crisp response of the Sport mode shadows that shortcoming.
The Hyundai-sourced automatic transmission now comes with a shift-by-wire as mentioned and you also get paddle shifters, marginally improving the driving experience. It's not the quickest, but the shift times are respectable.
Aerodynamic efficiency is improved in the updated exterior design, with wind curtains near the headlights contributing to slight gains in overall fuel economy, but we will verify that later with a road test.
Suspension tweaks ensure that ride quality remains excellent despite the large wheels. The handling is quite good too for such a large car and the aforementioned Electronic Power Steering helps shrink the perception of the car's size.
In conclusion, the 2023 Tata Safari is a compelling SUV. With its refreshed design, impressive features, and a strong safety package, it marks a significant step forward for Tata Motors. While the front-wheel-drive configuration and the absence of an all-wheel-drive option may not cater to Safari purists, the new Safari distinguishes itself with its rich feature set, connectivity options, and striking design, tailored to meet market demands.

Pick from popular cities, tata safari facelift interior fully uncovered.
Several interior elements from the Sierra and Curvv concepts have been carried forward into production.

We have already reported to you numerous interior and exterior spy images of the upcoming Tata Safari facelift, but for the first time, we have a completely undisguised look at the dashboard of the updated SUV. And as was expected, it gets a complete design overhaul that looks notably more premium and packs in a lot more tech.
- Safari facelift interior will have very few physical controls
- Infotainment screen likely larger than 10.25-inches
- Will get new two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel
Tata Safari facelift interior spied undisguised
The first impression looking at the image is that it appears a lot richer. Tata has even incorporated a few design elements from the Curvv and Sierra EV interior concepts here into production with the Safari facelift. The four-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel, for instance, is exactly what it was on the Sierra EV concept at Auto Expo 2023. It features a couple of toggle switches and haptic buttons at either end, while the centre portion gets a gloss black finish that’ll likely also have an illuminated Tata logo.
We can also clearly see the gloss black panel for the HVAC controls – it features two bands of haptic buttons with two toggle switches that’ll likely be for temperature and blower controls – again, identical to what Tata had previewed with the Curvv and Sierra EV concepts. The infotainment system on the Safari facelift also seems all-new; it has sharp edges as opposed to the rounded edges on the current 10.25-inch screens on the Safari Red Dark Editions, and as such, appears larger too. Tata could also provide an updated software interface with the new infotainment system.
Additionally, we can notice leatherette padding with contrast double-stitching for the lower portion of the dashboard, while the upper portion gets a full-width, coloured, gloss dashboard insert as opposed to faux wood-like trim on the current model. The central AC vents continue with a trapezoidal shape, but are now inverted and a lot sleeker as well, and there’s also a full-digital instrument cluster replacing the semi-digital unit on the current model.
Tata has also majorly revised the centre console area – the gear lever is smaller, stubbier and appears more sophisticated, while the rotary dial is larger and looks similar to the knurled unit on the Nexon EV Max with a circular digital screen. The grab handles, meanwhile, have been retained as is. There’s also no major change to the door pads either.
Notably, the updated SUV will have very few physical interior controls, but thankfully, key functions like temperature and blower settings, volume controls and drive modes appear to be operated by physical dials and toggle switches. You can expect the interior design to be mirrored in the Harrier facelift, while a lot of these elements will also be shared with the Nexon facelift . The Safari will also be majorly updated on the outside, more about which you can read here .
Tata Safari facelift powertrain options
At launch, the Safari will remain mechanically unchanged. It will carry over the current 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine that’s offered with 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Tata’s new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that's currently under development is only expected to join the line-up much later.
Tata Safari facelift launch timeline
Tata Motors has a slew of SUV launches lined up for the upcoming festive season, and the Safari facelift, along with the updated Harrier, is expected to arrive around September 2023. However, given the step-up in quality and equipment, expect a significant step-up in the pricing as well.

Tata Safari facelift interior leaked in new spy images
The interior of the new Safari will have multiple touchscreens with fewer physical buttons.
The Tata Safari facelift is set to receive major design changes both inside and out. Now, new spy images have emerged that reveal the SUV's interior in full detail.
At first glance, the interior of the Safari looks truly modern. The dashboard has a layered design with the central section finished in a contrasting shade.
A large floating touchscreen sits atop the centre console, while the HVAC controls have been integrated into a sleek touch-based unit. Below that is a rotary dial possibly for the drive modes and a stubby gear lever for the 6-speed automatic.
On the driver's side, the Safari facelift will get an all-new 4-spoke steering wheel first seen on the Sierra EV Concept and a digital instrument cluster.
The new interior design adopted by Tata does look upmarket, but the piano black surfaces and screens are a fingerprint magnet. Also, some may prefer to have physical buttons for some of the most basic operations.
The 5-seater Tata Harrier is expected to get a similar interior. Both SUVs will also receive several design updates on the outside.

Tata Safari Facelift Explained In 13 Pics

The Tata Safari has undergone its first major refresh, giving it a sharper appearance inside and out, with an even more expansive features set
Tata’s flagship 3-row SUV, the Tata Safari, has just received its first major makeover. The carmaker has unveiled the updated SUV and while we await its prices, here’s how the Tata Safari facelift looks inside and out.
The Safari’s fascia is a lot busier now, while carrying on with the split-headlight setup. However, the SUV now has more visual appeal than before thanks to the revised grille with chrome studs (colour-coordinated on the Cosmic Gold paint option ), vertically stacked LED projector headlights, and a connected DRL strip, and a chunky skid plate. On a closer inspection, you can also find the ‘Safari’ moniker between the headlight and fog lamp housings.
Its side profile is largely unchanged save for the provision of the ‘Safari’ moniker on the lower portions of the front doors. The new SUV also has black roof rails, while retaining the floating-roof effect.
Tata is also offering the Safari facelift with a new set of 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels as an option, a first for the third-generation model. With the facelift, the carmaker is offering alloy wheels right from the base variant, ranging from 17-inches to 18-inch units on the mid-spec trims.

Being a facelift, changes to the back are minimal as well and the SUV has continued with the same upright tailgate, but with a redone bumper and a new skid plate. The new Safari now has a connected wraparound LED taillight setup with slightly tweaked interior lighting elements. It also gets a fresh font for the ‘Safari’ badging on the tailgate.

Cabin And Features
The SUV’s cabin has undergone a thorough update, now featuring a layered design for the dashboard and revised central AC vents. The Safari facelift has been equipped with a new 4-spoke steering wheel featuring a backlit 'Tata' logo in the centre. Tata is now offering the SUV with exterior-colour-coordinated interior theme, depending on the variant chosen.
Another revised feature is the touch-based climate control panel (the SUV now gets voice-enabled dual-zone AC), finished in gloss black and having just two toggle switches.
The biggest talking point in the Safari facelift’s cabin is the dual display setup (a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and the other a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster). It gets wireless smartphone connectivity, connected car tech , and a 10-speaker JBL sound system. The new Tata Safari also comes with Alexa connectivity and Harman AudioworX with JBL audio modes.
Tata hasn’t made any revisions to the seating configuration of the SUV. The new Safari will also be available in both 6- and 7-seat versions. While front ventilated seats are on offer with both, it’s only the 6-seater variants which get seat cooling feature in the second row.

The Safari facelift has a boot space of 420 litres with the third row folded down, which expands to 827 litres by folding down the second row as well.
No change has been made to the powertrain of the SUV. Tata is still providing it with a 2-litre diesel engine rated at 170PS and 350Nm, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Safari, along with the Harrier, has even gotten more frugal with the midlife update .
Expected Price And Rivals
We expect the Tata Safari facelift to go on sale in the coming weeks, and its prices could start from around Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated SUV will rival the MG Hector Plus , Hyundai Alcazar, and Mahindra XUV700 .

Apple Releases Safari Technology Preview 193 With Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements
Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview , the experimental browser Apple first introduced in March 2016. Apple designed the Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.
The current Safari Technology Preview release is compatible with machines running macOS Ventura and macOS Sonoma , the latest version of macOS that Apple released in September 2023.
The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences or System Settings to anyone who has downloaded the browser . Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website .
Apple's aim with Safari Technology Preview is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. Safari Technology Preview can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download.

I'm always curious about these Safari Tech Preview posts. Are they just a quick way to add another headline? I suspect so, as I don't see many people trusting these builds as their daily driver. I've tried that in the past, but it never stuck.

NASA HQ picked their best photos of the year. Here are our 13 favorites.
From space rock chunks to rocket launches, NASA had a big year.
By PopSci Staff | Published Apr 24, 2024 5:03 PM EDT
On September 24, 2023, a capsule from NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission floated back to Earth , landing safely in the Utah desert. The mission was the first time the U.S. brought back a piece of an asteroid and a big moment for the space agency. The history-making success of OSIRIS-REx features prominently in NASA HQ’S Best of 2023 photos album , recently curated and shared on Flickr.
Other milestone moments documented in the photos include the Psyche spacecraft launch, the SpaceX Dragon Endurance landing, and the Earthly return of Frank Rubio , the record holder for longest single spaceflight by a U.S. astronaut.
NASA HQ shared 100 photographs, but we’ve selected our 13 favorites.
