Montreal has a thriving arts and entertainment scene, with several venues that have regular shows and special performances.

The Quartier des Spectacles is the city’s major cultural district.

Place des Arts is in the heart of this district, a multi-venue complex where you can watch opera, orchestral performances, ballet, musicals and plays.

Book a seat at the Montreal Symphony House (Maison Symphonique) if you like classical music.

Théâtre Maisonneuve regularly hosts local and international artists in ballet, contemporary dance and music.

The Quartier des Spectacles is where you can attend the internationally acclaimed Montreal Jazz Festival and Just For Laughs Comedy Festival and attend live performances.

Montreal got its name from this 761-foot (232 m) hill, which is also the largest of the city’s parks.

Mount Royal overlooks the downtown core and is popular during the day, but nights are when the crowd dwindles, and you will have some of the best views of the city’s skyline.

There are guided tours available in the park, of which the sunset summit walk is popular for its amazing sunset views.

The park is open throughout the year, and depending on the season, you can go jogging, cycling, boating, skating, skiing or tobogganing.

A 103-foot (32 m) cross on top of the hill was placed there in 1643 and is lit up at night.

Underground City, true to its name, is a large, sprawling network of connected subterranean tunnels running through the downtown core.

You can enter and exit easily from the roads and the metro rail system, making this a great place to hang out, even between visits to attractions like Place des Arts.

Air-conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter, this multi-level maze of passageways is packed with shops, restaurants, malls, indoor ice-skating rinks, and other entertainment options.

The Underground City is especially great during winter, where you can escape from the cold and snow outside, enjoy the warmth, and discover hidden gems.

Like Paris, Montreal transforms after sunset into a fairyland with well-lit and colourful buildings; even the Jacques-Cartier Bridge lights up in flashes of colour over the St. Lawrence River.

The best way to enjoy the sights after sunset is to buy a ticket on the hop-on hop-off double-decker bus.

If you see something interesting, you can get down at the nearest station, explore and hop back on the bus.

The areas of Old Montreal, Quartier de Spectacles and Latin Quarter are intriguing to look at and explore after sunset.

The bus tour is a must-do in Montreal, especially in summer.

Visit the Grande Bibliothèque library in Montreal not just for the books but for movies, music, video games, vinyl, and even to borrow museum passes.

The museum is quite modern looking, and gets lighted up in a unique colourful way at night, making it look even more attractive.

There are chairs to sit down, grab a book and read till your heart’s content.

The library is very close to Quartier des Spectacles, Old Montreal and many other attractions.

It is a good stop for relaxing or letting your kids enjoy comics/manga while you shop.

This is a great place for kids and adults to have fun and enjoy mind-bending illusions.

This museum is part of the global Museum of Illusions group, with over 70 exhibits, holograms, stereograms, optical illusions and fully immersive rooms designed to trick the mind.

Children will have a great time enjoying the visual and sensory illusions and brain teasers.

Children can also learn about the science behind each illusion, including how our brain processes information and what causes our senses to be deceived, so they can learn and have fun at the same time. Skip the line and book your tickets here.

Canada Hockey helmet, puck and stick

Canadians love their ice hockey.

Montreal is home to the Montreal Canadiens, one of the most storied franchises in the National Hockey League.

The iconic Bell Centre arena is where you can watch the game first hand and experience the energy of the atmosphere and spirit of the game.

You can even have a famous smoked meat sandwich or dip into the poutine while sipping beer and watching the game.

Many pubs offer special discounts and offers during the home games, drop into your local pub and enjoy the game if you can’t make it to the stadium.

You can also visit the Hockey: Faster Than Every seasonal exhibition in the Montreal Science Centre, where kids and adults can explore the science and action behind a ice hockey game.

Not far from Montreal, the thousand islands are a group of 1800 islands right on the border between northern New York and southeastern Ontario.

Your trip to these islands would involve some ground transport followed by a river cruise.

It’s worth a visit and the tour would take you through the picturesque archipelagos, world-class wineries, castles including the famous 120-room Boldt Castle, lavish villas, and historic lighthouses – all of which hide centuries of history.

Depending on your budget and interest, you can camp under the stars, book a cosy motel, rent a beautiful riverside villa, or get dropped at a full-service hotel to stay the night.

  • Clarron 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Very Nice Indeed! Yes, you’re on a tour bus. I say that because it was not too abundantly clear if that were the case when I initially read the description; and there are a number of walking tours. It rained the day that my husband and I did the tour, so it was a perfect day to be on a bus as opposed to being stuck inside somewhere. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and easygoing. You didn’t feel overwhelmed nor bored with the information that she shared. The bus driver was personable and delightful. It was just the right amount of time designated, appropriately 3 1/2 hours, or so…not too long nor too short. We covered a lot of ground in that amount of time and got to see a lot of Montreal. There were opportunities to get off the bus and take pictures at certain points of interest. We even stopped at a market to buy fresh fruit, baked goods, coffee, etc. I would recommend this tour if you want a good overview of the city without having to commit your entire day. I have visited Montreal and this city is incredible with his monument. The package offered by TripAdvisor is awesome. It's not too expensive and perfect for a family of four. I have travelled to Canada before, but this is like discovering a new country. I highly recommend it. Read more Written April 15, 2024
  • GeorgeM926 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Average It’s a good trip to get the layout of the city but after the first couple of stops they really run out of interesting things to say and you spend a long time on the coach just heading for the Olympic park and some run down areas Our guide was ok but the driver continually interrupted and took over His joke about Murder rates in the city was in poor taste He said we had on last week so your safe to walk around for the next three weeks . You don’t want murder jokes on a tour as I say you do get a good idea of the city bu5 at only one stop do you get guide commentary the rest is mostly driver rambling telling not funny jokes One final point I know this is a French speaking city and the arrival of the British was not welcome but if your a guide giving historical information you need to understand where people come from French came from France English came from England Scots came from Scotland You don’t say British and Scottish settled here . British is the combination of the home nations someone who is Scottish is also British It’s correct to say the English and Scottish settled here Read more Written April 6, 2024

  • N5630EWirenem 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles What an incredible day it turned out to be! Traveling alongside our companion was a joy as they kept us engaged throughout our journey to various destinations. Despite the initial uncertainty in the weather, it cleared up beautifully by the time we reached our first destination. Montmorency Falls left us spellbound, and Quebec City captivated us with its charming atmosphere! When we met our tour guide, we were impressed by her extensive knowledge of the area. With a friendly demeanor and a hint of humor, she shared captivating insights into Quebec's history, making our experience both educational and enjoyable. All in all, it was a remarkable day brimming with unforgettable moments. Read more Written March 27, 2024

  • Lara H 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Good tour to get the lay of the land My teens and I took this tour as the first tour in Montreal. We really liked that it showed us around the entire city so we could get the lay of the land. The tour guide had helpful recommendations for places to see and restaurants to try. The only complaint I have is that I booked and English speaking tour. Not sure why but the tour was given in both French and English as some French only speaking folks joined the tour. It was a little chaotic to be switching back and forth in languages while passing sites - some of which we learned about after passing the site. I feel like the flow of the tour was not as ideal as it could’ve been. If the tour was advertised as both French/English I would not make this comment. But I specifically chose one that was English only. Read more Written December 28, 2023
  • 375antoinetteo 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Informative Tour This was a great trip despite the wet and cloudy weather. We made four stops where we were able to take photos and stretch our legs. The tour was great and she spoke both in French and English, which I thought was a little challenging cause she speaks in one language as the bus drives by a building and by the time she switches to the other language, we're on to the next building. She did her best 👌. The tour was very informative and I'd take it again only in one language. Make sure you check the language you want during reservations Read more Written December 28, 2023
  • I2144VUjudithk 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great tour of the city! This sightseeing tour was really great. Reservations were easy to make online. We had no trouble finding the location of the building where the bus departs and the people running the tour were friendly and helpful. The bus was comfortable and the guide and driver were also friendly and very approachable for answering questions. The bus made several stops along the way to allow for pictures and bathroom breaks. We saw and learned a lot of very interesting things about the beautiful city of Montreal. Would highly recommend! Read more Written December 20, 2023

  • PhilipLeic 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Replacement bus service! We have done hop on/off buses all over the world and was looking forward to another in Montreal but had finished for the season! However, we were lucky to have arrived at the starting point at 1030h and was told there was a 3h coach tour of the city as a winter replacement for the hop on/off tour. We decided to go for this and the tour was very good including a walking part by the cathedral and stops near the olympic park and Mount Royal for photos. The live commentary was bilingual and very informative. We got a good overview of the city and was quite reasonable value for a 3h tour. Read more Written December 8, 2023
