The AF is okay a median distances 1.5-5m a bit soft but I've seen worse. I found it not so good closer to the alleged 0.8m close point. The Trip AF 50 is a compact auto focus 35mm camera introduced by Olympus in 2002. A quartz date version was also available called Trip AF 50 QD. It was launched with 3 other models a similar but higher specified Trip AF 51 and 2 fixed focus cameras ( Trip 500 & Trip 505) which were all intended for emerging markets in the developing world.

The wide-angle 27mm lens has a maximum aperture of f/6.3, which is hardly a benefit -- so it's pretty much similar to the simple Vivitar PN211 in that regard. I am not sure how much automation is in the camera -- The flash operates in all conditions, and there is no way to turn it off in daylight. The shutter speed is 1/100 sec. for everything.

The AF30 has a sliding cover that protects the lens when it's not in use, a hallmark of Olympus compact cameras stretching back to Yoshihisa Maitani's groundbreaking XA rangefinder of 1979.
