About the Orange Blossom Classic

Founded in 1933 by the son of Florida A&M University’s president, J.R.E. Lee Jr. The Orange Blossom Classic quickly became the postseason’s must-see game. The inaugural Orange Blossom Classic welcomed 2,000 fans to the “blacks-only” ballpark in Jacksonville, Florida, where FAMU beat Howard 9-0 and successfully established the foundation of HBCU classics. From 1933 -1978, the Orange Blossom Classic reigned supreme as the postseason’s premier HBCU classic event. After a 43-year hiatus, The Orange Blossom Classic made its return to Miami Gardens in 2021. 

The OBC was re-established to enhance Historically Black Colleges & Universities’ exposure in the enriched community of Miami Gardens. It promises to attract thousands of fans, alumni, school members, and family members from these respected communities, highlighting interest in HBCUs and their roles in educating aspiring professionals and developing our future leaders. With a goal to raise scholarship funds for the participating schools for years to come, the reinvigorated HBCU Football Classic will help to support the knowledge and experience offered by the discipline, commitment, and dedication it takes to be a Historically Black College & University student.

Orange Blossom Review 2023 Lineup, featuring JJ Grey & Mofro, The Wood Brothers and more

Lake Wales, FL (May 22, 2023) – Returning to Lake Wales, FL this winter,  Orange Blossom Revue  is proud to announce the lineup for its ninth annual festival spanning the weekend of December 1-2, 2023.

Hosted by illustrious American roots outfit  The Wood Brothers , the intimate celebration of music, community, and nature has quickly grown to become a beloved tradition for residents of central Florida and enthusiastic visitors alike.

This year’s marquee includes performances by southern soul-rock icons  JJ Grey & Mofro , virtuosic guitar prodigy  Molly Tuttle and her band Golden Highway , distinguished singer-songwriter  Brent Cobb , neotraditional country hitmakers  Mike and the Moonpies , rising Americana star  Kaitlin Butts , and more. 

Conveniently nestled midway between Tampa and Orlando, the close-knit community of Lake Wales, FL has long been known as a best-kept secret for culture and outdoor recreation.

Its bounty of Spanish moss, palmetto trees, and fragrant citrus groves makes it a choice location for two full days of entertainment and leisure, and the charming grounds of Lake Wailes Park provide a picturesque backdrop for the weekend-long celebration. 

Wide Open Country has dubbed the festival “an enchanting pre-holiday celebration of song,” while Music Fest News cited OBR’s 2022 event as “another superb outing.”

Each year, a portion of ticket proceeds from Orange Blossom Revue helps to support its nonprofit beneficiary,  Blossom Charitable Foundation .

The organization was established in 2021 by festival founders Rusty Ingley and Reid Hardman as a means for promoting arts and culture in Lake Wales year-round. Through its initiatives, Blossom Charitable Foundation has provided significant support to numerous local organizations including Lake Wales Charter Schools, Lake Wales Pram Fleet, Lake Wales Arts Council, Warner University, and others. Known for its family-friendly atmosphere, eclectic roster of musical talent, and spotlight on Florida’s homegrown culinary scene, Orange Blossom Revue continues to shine as a can’t-miss annual destination.

Orange blossom tour: experiencing hidden gems and blissful back roads.

Most people don’t believe us at first when we say that Florida has beautiful country roads with curves and hills that can compete with those in any other state.

That’s part of the reason why we created the Orange Blossom Tour : to show the skeptics what our home state has to offer, both in terms of driving roads and non-Disney attractions.

And while our 2020 Orange Blossom Tour primarily welcomed return guests, we managed to convert a few new friends into fans of Florida’s fine features.

This year’s Orange Blossom Tour was a hub-style tour based in Howey-In-The Hills, Florida, at the beautiful Mission Inn Resort. Guests arrived Sunday, March 1, and got comfortable in their rooms without worrying about packing up again until Friday morning.

Our first day’s route took us through rolling hills, orange groves and quaint old towns toward a mind-blowing car collection so private that we had to sign an NDA just to be allowed in. 

From there, we headed to old downtown Lakeland for lunch and walked in awe among the large collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings at nearby Florida Southern College.

The next day we awoke with visions of mermaids in our heads and followed a winding road through mangroves and salt marshes to a delicious seafood lunch in the Crystal River area and a visit to the famous Weeki Wachee Springs. There, we watched from the underwater theater as mermaids and synchronized swimmers frolicked and sang in the spring. 

That night, we ventured out to charming Mount Dora for dinner at Pisces Rising, a restaurant built around a historic home with stunning sunset views.

Wednesday, we set our sights on DeLeon Springs, one of many locales in Florida once said to be the legendary Fountain of Youth, now a popular watering hole and breakfast destination for locals. 

For lunch, we headed into the Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp for lunch at a century-old hotel and received a few spiritual readings from a local medium because, well, when in Rome….

After lunch, we headed for Blue Spring State Park, known for its large winter population of manatees. There, we had time to walk through the historic Thursby House and along the manatee viewing boardwalks (or just enjoy some ice cream in the picnic area) before boarding our nature cruise to see American alligators, white ibises, great blue herons, sandhill cranes and turtles galore.

On the final day of the tour, we wove through Ocala National Forest, one of the world’s largest contiguous sand pine scrub forests, toward Cross Creek to tour the historic home of “The Yearling” author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and enjoy lunch at the Yearling restaurant. 

From Cross Creek, it was a hop, skip, and a jump to old downtown Micanopy, the home of another famous Marjorie (Marjorie Harris Carr) who led the fight against the Cross Florida Barge Canal in the 1950s and 1960s. After a brief walk through ice cream shops and antique stores, we began our final timed rally stage back to the hotel for our farewell dinner.

It was hard to say goodbye after so much fun, but we look forward to seeing many of our Orange Blossom Tour guests again on our other tours this year and in 2021.

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.
