Merry Christmas! We may not have chimneys for Santa Claus to slide down but his sleigh has surely made a pitstop amidst Dubai’s dunes and towering skyline (and many malls) laden with presents and a blizzard of wintry Christmassy activities to plunge into. There are so many things to do to celebrate the festive season in town, that it can be overwhelming. We took on the task of becoming elves, did all the hard work and created a guide of 12 wonderful things to do in Dubai on Christmas . Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, this list will have you fa la la la laughing with delight.

1. Celebrate a white Christmas at the DIFC Snow Park

Gate Avenue at DIFC has transformed into a picturesque winter wonderland straight out of a Snow Globe. Instead of being snowed under at work this Christmas in Dubai, hit the DIFC Snow Park and be buried in some fun. You and any kids in tow to roll around in making snow angels or ball up enough of the white stuff to make snowmen or hurl at each other and kick off snowball fights. 2. Visit Santa’s Grotto and make wishes come true

Santa’s ditched snowy slopes for sandy shores at The Beach, JBR this Christmas and set up a proper grotto to boot. year. Little kids get to meet and greet Santa and a special photobooth set in place captures a snapshot of the wonderful memory. Santa’s Workshop at the St. Regis Downtown Dubai is hosting cookie decorating workshops until December 30 at 3pm every day. You’ll find yourself decorating scrummy treats and festival-flavoured gingerbread and shortbread cookies. Reservations are required, visit the St. Regis Dubai website .

Nakheel Mall ’s Depachika food hall is hosting workshops for kids that range from festive ornaments to candy cane beads and holiday jars until Decemebr 3 1. 10. Savour eco-friendly snowfall at Green Planet Dubai

The indoor rainforest will have simulated snowfall descend on guests both inside the biodome and outdoors in the Nature Park. Santa will make appearances too ditching his traditional red outfits for a green suit to spread the message of saving the environment. Hollywood-inspired theme park Motionagte is turning into Tinseltown on myriad levels this Christmas. There’ll be street shows , parades , meet-and-greets with Santa under a 40-foot tree and more. But the piece de resistance of the festive season is a live musical stage show called ‘Home for Christmas’ about a grumpy character called Mr. Humbug who’s internet on avoiding the holiday spirit. With the festive season upon us, several places all over the UAE have turned into winter wonderlands and festive markets. With jingling bells, make-believe snow, carols, humongous Christmas trees and Santa Claus himself, residents can head to many destinations around the city to get into the festive spirit.

Here's a list of winter wonderlands around Dubai where residents can enjoy festive celebrations, indulge in delicious treats, and enjoy fun-filled activities with friends and families.

Madinat Jumeirah Festive Market

The winter festival has arrived in all its true glory at Madinat Jumeirah with several activities, including Santa’s grotto, kids’ workshops and roaming entertainment. Moreover, there is a festive train at the amphitheatre that the kids can ride throughout this season.

Winter Garden at Habtoor Palace

You know winter’s here when you see the tall Christmas tree decked up with delicate ornaments and lights while driving by Sheikh Zayed Road.

For years the winter garden at Habtoor Palace has been one of the most popular destinations to enjoy Christmas festivities. This year, there is a minimum spend of Dhs. 25 per person to enter. Visitors can shop for knickknacks or enjoy the wide variety of cuisines available in the garden.

Everything associated with Christmas, you will find at the Expo winter city. With a travelling band that performs the best carols, an ice-skating rink with faux snow and a spectacular show at the Al Wasl Dome, the city has transformed itself completely for the festive season. Food trucks and cafes serve everything from burgers to Santa cookies to cotton candy. For adventure lovers, there is an alpine zipline, a giant inflatable bag jump and rock climbing. A giant letter to Santa station is the spot for the young and young-at-heart to post letters to the North Pole. Visitors can also go to Santa's House to get a picture with Santa or Mrs Claus. With activities including cookie decorating, gingerbread house making and painting shirts, there is something for everyone in the city.

IMG World of Adventure

Dubai's largest mega-themed indoor entertainment destination will keep the mood festive by transforming into a winter wonderland with festive decor, entertainment and activities.

A variety of winter-themed attractions and activities including the Winter Wonderland, Fro-Zone, Santa’s Grotto, the Elves Workshop and the Bauble Giants are part of the celebrations. The Santa Express, featuring an Elf driver, will be another unique experience. The Christmas Parade will feature the full cast of characters including the Ice King and Queen, Toy Soldiers and Snowflake Dancers. Visitors can also enjoy a special meet and greet with all of the Marvel and Cartoon Network characters.

The Christmas tree lighting will also feature Christmas Carol Performances, Santa on Dino Buggy, a Dino and Santa Skit and a Character Parade.

Ibn Battuta Mall

Enter the magical world of the Northern Hemisphere and experience artificially created Northern lights and a dazzling display of aurora light. Guests can also learn about the magical myths of the Northern lights in the mini museum, all taking place at India Court until 1 January 2023.

Visitors can also enjoy Insta-worthy photo opportunities such as Santa’s Grotto located in China Court, a star tunnel, giant baubles, lit candy canes, Santa’s sleigh and more. There will also be live performances by Santa and The Elves, Musical Toy Box Ballerina, roaming carol singers and a festive pop band.

Meet Santa and his elves in China Court every day from 2 pm to 10 pm while performances and roaming entertainment on every weekend.

For those missing the snow and cold of Christmas in their hometowns can head straight to Ski Dubai where the Snow Park has everything you need for a fun outing. Visitors can buy tickets to enjoy a meet and greet session with Santa Claus which includes a gift, a hot chocolate and a printed photo of the encounter. For those who want to spend extra time with Santa can opt to either have breakfast with him.

Visitors can also choose to learn skiing or enjoy an encounter with penguins at the snow park. Guests can also choose to bundle up, grab popcorn and enjoy a unique snow cinema experience.

Winter Fun at Nakheel Mall

Start the countdown to Christmas with celebrations at Nakheel Mall, which will transform into a winter fun zone with activities such as an edible snow station, bubble spin and fishing games. Children can also decorate cookies, candies, ornaments and more through a variety of free workshops, every day from 4 pm to 10 pm.

Families can head to Santa’s grotto for a free meet and greet session with Santa or pose for a festive selfie by one of the two Christmas trees. They can also join the ‘Sea-Wonder’ parade will make its way from Al Ittihad Park to Nakheel Mall on 23 and 24 December from 6 pm to 8 pm.

If you’ve not seen this before, then you simply must see it. The Habtoor Palace which is the ground of the former  St. Regis Dubai Gardens are set to transform into an enchanted winter wonderland again this year, and there’ll be fun galore for everyone. There will be themed activities and entertainment for kids and adults alike. If that weren’t enough, a number of food stalls and retail stores wait to entertain, satiate and satisfy you. The winter wonderland is from the 04th December to 21st  December 2018.

The Dubai Winter Festival is a magical weekend of festive fun that’s conducted from December 6 th to 9 th at the Dubai Media Amphitheater. Take your family to Santa’s grotto in the white wonderland, do some retail therapy at the winter market, watch the tree lighting ceremony, join a snowball fight, experience the fun fair, build a snowman and enjoy live stage performances.

The British Business Group is kicking up its annual Great British Christmas Ball on December 7 on the British Embassy’s grounds in Dubai. Don’t miss the event which begins at 7 P.M. and is likely to run till the early hours of the morning. A full traditional British Christmas dinner awaits you, complete with Christmas pudding and Yule log.

• Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen’s terrace will be transformed into a white Christmas market, complete with snowmen, festive games, snow everywhere and picnic tables and candy cane stilt walkers

• A huge snow globe will be suspended from the ceiling that you can actually climb and snap a selfie.

At the Irish Village pub and restaurant, an enormous traditional Christmas tree is put up with all the decorations by the first week of Christmas. On the 4 th of Christmas, a traditional Christmas Tree Lighting takes place where your entire family can participate. String the lights, create your own fun light combinations and enjoy the seasonal mulled beverages and home-baked mince pies while you have fun. Everyone sings Christmas carols as well, so join in! Get your cheesiest festive sweater ready for December 14 th annual McGettigan’s Christmas Jumper Party. You can buy a cheesy sweater or make your own but make sure it’s cheesy as all hell. Madinat Jumeirah welcomes its annual Festive Market this year, from December 15th to 27th. It’s a 1,750 square meter winter wonderland that’ll welcome you on the 15 th at Madinat Jumeirah. It will feature a Germanic Festive Market complete with girls dressed as Gretchens, and beer frothing from the mouths of real German steins. There’ll be all these thrills to look forward to:

• A north pole train for kids

This Christmas and New Year, there’ll also be a shimmering interactive LED Christmas tree. Santa will make an appearance all the way over from the North Pole between 5 to 7 P.M. every night.

Be sure to get your kids to Vida Downtown on the 16 th for some festive cookie making. Let them get their hands sticky and yucky decorating giant gingerbread cookies. They can make cookies for themselves and for Santa who’ll be visiting Vida Downtown at Christmas. Of course, there’ll be tons of toys, balls, plenty of edible glitter, yummy colorful icing, and holiday chocolates.

Get to La Farine on December 3 rd and participate in the building of the giant gingerbread house, to be prepared from more than 600 kilograms of flour, 150 kilograms of sugar, 500 kilograms of honey, 30 liters of milk, and 60 kilograms of spices, 250 kilograms of icing sugar, 150 eggs and five liters of lemon juice. The whole place is going to smell like spicy gingerbread!

The gingerbread house is expected to be completed within a day. The La Farine festive market sells roasted chestnut carts, hot chocolate vans and other hand-crafted cakes along with delicious spiced mulled grape by Gelly Kalouta.

Dubai is holding Ripe Markets at various places, such as the Zabeel Park, Al Barsha Pond Park and Le Méridien Mina Seyahi markets. From Wednesday December 7 all the way to Christmas Eve, all these daily markets will be selling Christmas-themed items and will be decorated for Christmas. There’s going to be craft workshops, and stalls selling all manner of Christmas goodies. Santa’s Middle East reps, the BabySouk Soukettes will be collecting letters from the kiddies to send on to the North Pole. What’s more, each kid will receive a personalized response from Santa himself and soon!

Dubai Parks and Resorts is gearing up for the Christmas and New Years’ season in every possible way. Don’t miss the Fireworks by The River event that’ll be on every Friday in December. Riverland Dubai is all set to light up the sky as night approaches. Watch this amazing show from one of the 40 restaurants and shops in Dubai Parks and Resorts. The stretch of 1 kilometer of manmade river will be lit up all along with colorful fireworks to ring in Christmas and New Year. Legoland is also planning gala events every day and gifts galore to winners. The whole of Dubai Parks and Resorts will glitter with white like a magical Christmas snow land. Take a boat tour on the river and enjoy some amazing views of the fabulous fireworks at Dubai Parks and Resorts.

13.  Admire the gingerbread replica of the iconic Burj Khalifa 

Those of you who will be travelling though Dubai International Airport can join the festive season in Dubai upon arrival. This season you can admire the gingerbread replica of the iconic Burj Khalifa by Address Dubai Marina.

A 14 meter high gingerbread replica of the Burj Khalifa is decorated with gift boxes and lights, occupying a central place in Concourse B at Terminal 3.

The project created by Address Dubai Marina’s culinary team lead by Head Chef Avinash Mohan and six engineering professionals meticulously constructed the show stopping replica in 432 hours. The tasty replica is made from over 30,000 gingerbread panels, using 180kg of flour, over 1,600 kg of icing sugar, 216 litres of honey and 23kg of ginger powder.
