The 5 Cheapest Port Canaveral Cruise Parking Lots

Looking for the cheapest parking option for a cruise from Port Canaveral? Located about 45 minutes from Orlando (the nearest major airport and city), there are plenty of options for getting to the cruise terminal. But for many, driving is the best option.

Of course, if you plan to drive to the port, then you are going to need to park your car while you sail. Depending on where you park, that can be an expensive proposition.

Parking garage at Port Canaveral cruise terminal

The official parking lots at the port, while being extremely convenient, are pricey. You get to park right at the ship, but daily rates are $17, and you are charged for the day you arrive and the day you leave. So on a 7-day cruise, you can expect to pay nearly $140 just for parking your car while you are on your trip.

The good news is that a number of independent lots have seized the opportunity and sprung up offering lower parking rates. While these lots are all off of port property, some are very close and all will have a shuttle to get you back and forth between your car and your cruise terminal. In other words, parking at these other lots can be nearly as easy as parking at Port Canaveral, but cost considerably less.

How much less? Prices vary from parking lot to parking lot, but there are some that can be as little as $8 per day. That could save you about $75 off parking at the port for a week-long cruise.

To help you save the most money, we tracked down what we believe are the cheapest Port Canaveral cruise parking options for your next trip. If you find a lot that’s cheaper, be sure to let us know in the comments below.

Disclaimer: The lots below are what we believe are the cheapest, not recommendations. Be sure to do your homework (including reading reviews) before simply booking with a parking lot because it is inexpensive.

Cheapest Port Canaveral Cruise Parking Lots

port canaveral cruise parking on site

GoPort Cruise Parking Among the cheapest parking options is one that doesn’t even charge you by the day. The parking package from GoPort has a different spin — they officially let you park for free, but then charge for a shuttle transfer.

Here’s how it works. Instead of paying for parking by the day, you’ll simply be charged $60 total for a shuttle transfer for up to four people. That’s it. This represents the least expensive option we’ve found for parking and less than half what’s charged at the port.

The only hurdle is that at this time GoPort only offers parking for passengers sailing aboard Carnival Mardi Gras . If taking any other ship, then you’ll need to find a different spot to park.

  • Lowest Cost Seen:  $60 for a 7-day cruise
  • Distance: 5.5 miles
  • Website: https://www.goport.com/
  • Phone: 321-735-8833

Cruisetime Parking and Shuttle Cruisetime is located southwest of Port Canaveral, on Merritt Island. It’s only about 8.5 miles from the port and the ride to the terminal takes about 15 minutes. Parking rates are simple: Cruises of five days or fewer see a flat $50 charge while longer trips cost $8 each day.  Cruisetime also offers a shuttle to and from the port that’s included with your parking.

There is one thing that you should keep in mind, however. The cruise parking is charged by the day you are there, not your cruise length. (Most lots do this, including parking at Port Canaveral).

For example, if you take a 7-day cruise, you will arrive at the port on a Sunday afternoon and then get back the next Sunday morning. If you were to park at Cruisetime, you are charged for 8 total days because of both Sundays. Even if you arrive back and pick up your car early in the morning, the parking lot charges that as a full day.

Still, even paying for 8 days at $8 per day is much cheaper than paying for parking at the port.

  • Lowest Cost Seen:  $64 for 7-day cruise
  • Distance: 8.5 miles (shuttle provided)
  • Website: https://www.cruisetimeparking.com
  • Phone: 321-591-0854

Port Parking Space If parking close to the cruise port — and getting a good deal — is important to you, then Port Parking Space might be the right fit. The parking lot is relatively new, but it serves as the closest lot that’s not the official port parking. The closest terminal (Royal Caribbean’s Cruise Terminal 1) is less than half a mile away.

Using a widely advertised promo code on the parking lot’s website, the rate was just $9.95 per day to park (normal rates are $11.95 per day) and includes a shuttle over the ships. With taxes and fees, the discounted total comes out to $93 for a seven-day cruise.

One thing to note is that the parking lot does not serve the Disney terminal.

  • Lowest Cost Seen:  $93 for a 7-day cruise
  • Distance: 0.5 miles
  • Website: https://portparkingspace.com/
  • Phone: 321-353-8353

Park N Cruise Port Canaveral Parking Sitting right at the edge of Merritt Island before you cross the bridge to Port Canaveral, it’s hard to get much closer to the port than this. Still, the price won’t break the bank compared to parking at the terminal.

Rates start at $10.95 per day when booked in advance. When you include taxes and fees, the total comes to $99.73 for a week cruise during our search. That saves about $40 versus parking provided by the port.

There is a shuttle that runs every thirty minutes to get you over to the ship, so you don’t have to worry about how to get to the terminal on cruise day.

  • Lowest Cost Seen:  $99.73 for a 7-day cruise
  • Distance: 3 miles
  • Website: https://www.parkncruiseportcanaveral.com/
  • Phone: 866-706-8999

Port Canaveral Parking Port Canaveral Parking is located on Merritt Island, just about 10 minutes from the cruise ships. It charges rates of $11.95 per day for parking , which is roughly $5 a day cheaper versus parking at the cruise terminals (the lot does offer special discounts at times). There is also covered parking available.

Like other lots in the area, you are charged for both the day you arrive and the day you leave, meaning that you pay for an extra day on your cruise. As well, taxes and fees aren’t included in the headline price. During our search, we found $109.78 after all taxes and fees for a week-long cruise.

  • Lowest Cost Seen:  $109.78 for a 7-day cruise
  • Distance: 6.5 miles
  • Website: https://portcanaveralparking.com/
  • Phone: 866-456-3050

I’m looking for the best rate for a five day four night cruise parking, offsite that will transfer us back-and-forth to the Royal Caribbean cruise ship ?

Good Morning,

Need some advise as to where to park in Port Canaveral, My wife and I are driving from Miami for our upcoming December cruise with MSC. Not familiar with the port options, so any adive will be greatly appreciated. I understand there are quite a few options, but would like to hear any feedback!!!

This article should have everything you need:

https://www.cruzely.com/port-canaveral-cruise-parking/

Thank you for the information! We used to park offsite each time, but I think we’ll just go onsite this time around.

When the rates at the port were like $15 and the off site places were like $5, it made sense. Especially for a three night cruise, it now makes no sense to park offsite just to save some change. The port is $68, off site is $48ish. But then, they charge tax, some charge fees, the port does not, and they want you to tip both ways on the shuttle, which a few won’t take the entire family for the same rate. That closes that $20 gap quite a bit. I think the $10 or so (possibly less) is worth parking at the port and shaving off the time. No waiting on shuttles. No added layers.

I think it might still make more sense for a seven night cruise, but not really for anything shorter. For me, for a shorter cruise, the gap is just not worth the extra time and energy compared to the port for the very limited savings.

I tend to agree with you. It’s also really nice to walk off the ship right to your car and be on your way home.

It’s 2022 – time for updated info, peeps! First of all, the rates have changed. Cruisetime Parking is now $9 a day, up from $8, and GoPort (at least as of 1/4/22) has a whole new pricing structure: $80 flat rate for any length, which includes one shuttle rider; two shuttle riders and you’re looking at $85. But at least both of these are total prices, which brings in the ‘sticker’ price vs. ‘total’ price dimension. Park n Cruise is now generally up to $12 a day, which includes up to 4 pax, but they charge additional port entry fee (sneaky!) as well as taxes on top, which brings the daily charge to $13.50 per day for a 7-day cruise – not much of a saving off of the on-premise option! It would also be prudent in these Covid times to be in the know about cancellation policy. GoPort doesn’t even give you travel credit if it’s within 3 days, and Park N Cruise it’s 24 hours, no refund (by comparison, Cruisetime says you can cancel up to noon, day of). The most important ‘lesson’ in all this? Things change: you should use sources like this only as a guide; for the most updated information, you need to do your own search, and do thinks like make your own phone-calls.

Thanks for the update. We’ll look to update this page ASAP. Love the “lesson” too! Things are changing so quickly right now. That’s why we provide all the contact information.

Appreciate the quick updates to the page – HATE businesses that, say, post their menus on their website, and then when you visit, the selections have changed, and the prices have changed. You updated your info very quickly – good job!

Does cruisetime miami drop off at the Virgin Scarlet lady? not listed on the choices thanks

Any transport to the port will be able to drop you at any ship.

We are looking for advice. We are a family of 10 taking a 4 day cruise in January. We are flying into Orlando and are trying to figure out our best option for getting to Cape Canaveral. We arrive at 8:00 and will need to grab a bite to eat before heading to the cruise terminal. On the way back, our flight is at 3:50, so we are trying to see if there is something do to besides sit at the airport.

You can head to the beach at Cocoa (where Port Canaveral is located). It’s a nice beach and even in January you might get some warm weather. There is also the Kennedy Space Center nearby. For food, there are a number of restaurants at the port such as Fishlips and Grills.

What People Are Saying About Us:

“The organization was the best of any city we have visited. You park in the lot anywhere, pay the fee, get a number so they can find your car when you return. They shuttle you to and from the ship in a smooth manner. When the ship returns, you walk to the same area where they dropped you off. They do all the baggage lifting into and out of their vehicles. Before you get back to their parking lot, they have all the vehicles moved in front so you don’t have to go looking for them. Kudos!” – Sandy B

“We kept our car with park n cruise while away for a week. Upon arrival the staff was very friendly. They loaded our luggage and we left within 10 minutes. When we returned they were already there waiting for us. I don’t know the name of our driver but she was very friendly. Would definitely use Park N’ Cruise again!” Jess F

Craig- Shuttle Drive r

Hi, my name is Craig, I’ve been shuttling cruise people for the past seven years. My wife and I moved to Florida nine years ago from upstate NY. We love to camp and do so every chance that we get. We have three children and eight grandchildren. I work this job so that I can afford Christmas presents for all of them….lol. I love my job and I love meeting all the happy cruise folks!

Joel- Shuttle Driver

I’m Joel from Kentucky. I am a retired Parole Officer and a veteran of the US Army. Driving our happy customers and sending them off to exotic destinations is the best part of my job.

Jodi- Office Manager

Hello, my name is Jodi. I am the newest member of the office staff at Park n’ Cruise and look forward to getting to know our loyal customers and meeting new people as well! I was raised in the Midwest, and have lived in sunny Florida for 20 plus years now. I cherish my children, the sunshine, and everything about the water!!! 🌴🍊🍹

Let one of our customers walk you through our Port Canaveral cruise parking process:

“Let me first say that I spent more than twenty five years in the customer service management industry, so I have experienced customer service as a provider as well as a customer.

Having said that, the customer service that I received from Park n Cruise 1700 Sea Ray Dr., Merritt Island, Fl epitomizes customer service at its absolute finest.

Their service was absolutely flawless. From our arrival to our departure I must say, proudly, they NEVER faltered. When we entered they immediately removed our luggage and instructed us as to the procedures to follow. We were checked in given further instruction prior to being placed in line and subsequently placed on the bus to the port after the driver loaded our luggage.

Upon return the buses were located just where we were told they would be, again or luggage loaded by the rep and we were returned to the PNC. When we arrived we saw our vehicle parked in one of the parking areas on the lot.

By the time we got our luggage and left the bus or vehicle had been relocated to the area where we were, keys inside and all we had to do was leave.

We cruise often and we have tried a number of providers, NONE, have been more efficient, more accommodating, nor more professional than Park n Cruise 1700 Sea Ray drive. Not only have we used a number of providers in Merritt island Florida, but in other cities and states as well and none compare.

Park N Cruise Merritt island, take a bow, you are the standard bearer. I can use this facility in the future and no matter what happens they can do no wrong… first impression that will never change.” – Charles H

Lynnea at entrance amazing! Always greets with beautiful smile, energy, explaining procedure thoroughly. Shares excitement with us making us feel our vacation has already started before even getting on the ship.

We parked here on September 17th for a cruise. We were able to park under a tree close to the loading area. It is outside parking, but we did not have any problems. The air conditioning in their van was nice and cool and the driver was friendly and drove safely. Our Cruise ship was 2.5 hours late getting in, yet there they were waiting for us! The directions when getting off the ship and finding them were clear and concise. They were much less expensive and convenient than parking at the port. We will definitely be booking with them again.

We parked here for an October cruise on Disney and there were pros and cons to this location. The pros are that it is conveniently located, the shuttles ran fairly regularly, and there are even restrooms at the parking location. The biggest con we have, was the confirmation receipt said that you show your receipt to enter the parking lot, then you drop off your luggage to a luggage valet and they assist with getting your suitcases out of your car then load the shuttle for you. Being a grandma and traveling with my sister, both of us really needed this assistance and planned to tip generously. When we pulled into the parking lot they seemed to not be aware of a valet service but told us we could find one of the guys in a blue shirt to ask for assistance. They seemed to be standing around talking to each other, so though we waited for a bit no one seemed available to help so we parked and then still could not find anyone to assist so we struggled with our luggage to the shuttle stop. In fairness when our shuttle arrived they did load for us so we were grateful and happy to tip for that. However on the return trip home there was no one at the parking location at all to assist with unloading. The shuttle driver was a petite woman about the same age as us and she said she would hand down bags but when she lifted mine, it got away from her and tumbled down the steps to the pavement. She offered to pay for anything broken inside but fortunately my souvenirs were packed careful and there was no damage, except the scuffs on my suitcase itself. Overall, would I use this location again, yes as long as I am not expecting baggage assistance.

Leaving for my cruise today, I pulled up to the booth in your parking lot and was greeted by Lynnea. she made us feel so welcomed and so valued! I drive a Jeep and have the ducks on my dashboard. She promptly told me she loved my ducks! I told her we were going on Royal Caribbean and she said let me give you a Royal Caribbean Duck. it made my day that someone would be so kind! Lynnea is definitely the right person for the booth! Thank you so much!!!

State Rep. Tyler Sirois excited about Brightline station in Cocoa despite 'work to do'

There is no set timetable yet or fixed cost for Brightline's planned train station in Cocoa . Construction on a similar project in the Martin County city of Stuart is expected to begin in 2026.

But that hasn't quelled the excitement surrounding a chance for Space Coast residents to utilize the high-speed passenger rail currently going from Miami to Orlando International Airport and back multiple times daily.

"I'm very interested in prioritizing our community's desire to see a train station in Cocoa," Florida Rep. Tyler Sirois recently told the FLORIDA TODAY Editorial Board. "I think that's something that will be transformational for the Cocoa area. But I also believe it will serve the entire Space Coast and not just not just visitors. I know I'm looking forward to getting on the train and going to Orlando to catch a flight."

Have a transportation complaint? Our John Torres wants to hear about it

In March,  Brightline announced intentions to have a  Brevard County train stop  at what's known as "the Cocoa curve," on land it owns in north Cocoa, although it hasn't yet said when construction of a station would begin. The announcement came on the heels of the Cocoa City Council unanimously voting to commit $5 million in city money for the project.

Additionally, the  Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization  has said it will set aside a total of $15.5 million in federal grant money it is set to receive in the 2026-27 and 2027-28 budget years to help cover design and construction work for the station. And Brevard County Commission Chair Jason Steele said he plans to push for a tourism grant for the station, using revenue generated from Brevard County's 5% tourist development tax on hotel and motel rooms, vacation rentals and other short-term rentals.

The Brevard County Commission will vote on May 7 on a proposal to have a $5 million tourism grant added to the mix. Funding for the proposed county grant would come from revenue generated by the county's 5% tourist development tax on hotel and motel rooms, vacation rentals and other short-term rentals. The advisory Brevard County Tourist Development Council on April 24 recommended approval of the grant, in an 8-0 vote.

Cocoa and Brightline plan to apply for a federal Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement Program grant of up to $50 million from the Federal Railroad Administration to help pay for the station.

Sirois acknowledged there was still "some work to do" to further advance the project, which he feels will also be good for Port Canaveral, especially for those going on cruises.

"What a great amenity for us to have," Sirois said. "I certainly think Port Canaveral would benefit from a train station in Cocoa. I know that they've (the port) got challenges with parking out there and their limitations. Having folks fly in and get on a train and go to Cocoa and catch a ride share or something to the port, I think it would be a great solution to their growing pains out there."

Best of Moscow by high speed train

By shuguley , February 15, 2014 in Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Cool Cruiser

Sure would appreciate someone who has taken "Best of Moscow by high speed train" from St. Petersburg could please share their impressions of this shore excursion. From the description this sounds like a very long day.

Wondering how the 4 hour train trip was in terms of accommodations, etc. Also what time did you leave the ship and what time at night did you return? Were both legs of the trip on the high speed rail (I read that slower trains also travel the same tracks)?

My wife and I are considering this excursion. We thought that if we are making all the effort to go to Russia then how could we pass up going to Moscow, walking in Red Square, seeing St. Basil, etc.

Link to comment

If you are considering this on the 2015 June Baltic cruise on Voyager; my suggestion is don't. There is so much to do in St. Petersburg and although a train is one of my favorite ways to travel the time would be far better spent in St. P.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, this would be on the Voyager during the 2015 season but not yet sure exactly which cruise.

5,000+ Club

We did the Moscow excursion "on a different luxury line", but from your brief description it sounds very much like the same trip, so I will operate on that assumption. It is a VERY long day! We left the ship at 5:30 AM and returned at 12:30 AM. The highspeed train trip is comfortable, and while they call it "Business Class" it does not compare well to the equivalent class on say Rail Europe. When we did it in 2011, we did have highspeed both ways, and the trip back seemed much longer as the adrenaline and excitement had worn off!:D

Moscow itself is not that terribly different from any other big city in the world, but this Cold War kid never thought he would ever stand in Red Square, never mind walk the grounds of The Kremlin, or tour The Kremlin Palace, or see (but not visit) Lenin's Tomb, or visit The Armoury. But he did, and he loved every minute of it! Yes, it is a long day, and you barely scratch a scratch on the surface, but it is worth it. There is a tremendous amount to see in St. Petersburg, but every Baltic cruise goes to St. Petersburg, so you can go back if you choose to. Not every cruiseline offers you the chance to see Moscow.

RachelG

I have not personally done this tour, but our last time in St Petersburg, the private guide that we hired for a day was leading the regent tour to Moscow on the high speed train the next day. He said it was way better than the previous alternative, which was flying to Moscow and back. He said that you actually got to Moscow faster because you didn't have to deal with airline checkin etc. it did seem like a very long day to me, and there is so much to see and do in st. Petersburg that I didn't consider doing it.

We toured to Moscow from St. Petersburg via the hi-speed SAPSAN train last September, from a Baltic cruise on the Oceania Marina. You need to have a two-night, three day port call in St. Petersburg to take this tour because the tour typically leaves the ship around 5:00 - 5:30 AM and doesn't return until after midnight the next day. We didn't take the ship's tour; we made private arrangements with TravelAllRussia for three days of touring, the first and third days in St. Petersburg and the second day the tour to Moscow by train. Our cost for the private tour for three days was about the same as what the ship charged for the excursion to Moscow alone. There are a number of private tour agencies that operate in St. Petersburg and offer the Moscow train tours; we would strongly recommend them over the ship's tours.

All three days had private guides with car and driver. The second day, the driver picked us up at the ship and took us to the train, but we were alone on the train, and met in Moscow by the guide on the station platform. After our tour and dinner, we were brought back to the train and after the return train trip met by the driver and taken back to the ship. Because you are alone on the train you must have your own Russian visas.

If this is your first visit to St. Petersburg, I would agree there is much more to see there. We found Moscow somewhat a disappointment, particularly Red Square. The Kremlin and the cathedral in Red Square were also worth seeing. But the best thing we saw was the Moscow subway! I worked for the Washington Metro system back in the 1980s as it grew from 40 to 80 miles and although I was in the computer area, I learned a lot about the challenges of running a subway system. We used the Moscow system to get across the city from where we had dinner to the train station, and I was amazed at the cleanliness', speed of operation, the short headways maintained, and the courtesy of everyone involved. A very impressive experience!

We had been to St. Petersburg before, and so had the time to take a day and go to Moscow. Also, I really like trains, and the SAPSAN is a German train set running on Russian rails. Seats are like first class domestic air, spacious but not too plush or comfortable, but with enough room. Not too much recline, and almost 8 hours on the train in two shots is a lot for an old man. They come through and sell drinks, candy, etc. but the sellers don't speak English and no one around us helped, so we had just poor coffee once coming, and brought stuff with us for the trip back. Not too much to see from the train either, particularly on the return when it is night the whole way.

If you decide to go, take a private tour and avoid the overly expensive ship's tour. I'm glad we did it, but wouldn't bother to repeat the tour; we've seen Moscow.

Thanks so much to all of you for the thorough and thought insight. Yhe information you have provided is most helpful.

countflorida: Your detailed post is very helpful. We are not quite ready for a Baltic cruise but should do so within a year. Time enough to do our pre travel research, bookings and visa gathering.:) Thank you!

Basil, etc.

I did this on Seabourn. IMO DONT. Take Aeroflop (er Aeroflot). The train has non folding seats where you are literally knee to knee with your fellow passenger (facing each other). Further they don't believe in air conditioning. It's also the worlds slowed bullet train. I think I would have found more enjoyment wandering around the St. Petersburg and Moscow airports.

Countflorida,

This is a little off topic,, however we had planned a river cruise in Russia but decided we would rather stay on land and have booked about two weeks with Travel-All-Russia using the private guide and driver. I'm curious as to how you found them as a tour company.

The guides they provided were fine. We had a different guide each of the days in St. Petersburg, but both were flexible, pleasant, knowledgeable and spoke English very well, as did the guide in Moscow, incidentally. She was a bit aloof, distant, not too friendly, but otherwise fine. In fact, she was the one who suggested taking the Metro, which unexpectedly became one of the highlights of the Moscow excursion. If I have a complaint with AllTravelRussia, it is with their plan and its execution (more later).

I had requested emphasis on World War II (in Russia, the Great Patriotic War) sites and info. In scheduling us, they weren't careful about dates and a couple of the sites we wanted to see were scheduled on the third day, after we'd been to Moscow. But both sites were closed that day of the week, and that info was readily available, right on web sites describing them. Also, the included meals (lunches in St. Pete, dinner in Moscow) were not what we asked for: light meals with some choices, so we could avoid things we didn't like and choose things we did like. My request was ignored; we were given full Russian meals with a fixed menu, no choice. On the first day, a fish dish was the entre, but I am allergic to fish. Fortunately, I had the e-mail I'd sent with me and showed it to the guide, and she was able to change my entre to chicken, which was very good actually. But we didn't want a 3-4 course lunches or dinner (in Moscow). We had the guide drop the lunch the third day, although we never got any credit or refund. But, particularly in contrast to the ship's tours, the prices were so reasonable we didn't worry too much about it.

The people who were on the ship's tour to Moscow saw us boarding the same train for which they were forced to queue up and wait on the way back, and asked us what we had done. I was candid and open so they were not happy when I explained what we had arranged and particularly what it had cost. Also, when we returned to the ship, we found they had laid on a late supper for those who had gone to Moscow, so up we went and had something. Well, it turns out the late supper was supposed to be just for those on the ship's tour, but we and others on 'independent' tours, there were a dozen or more of us, crashed the party, actually got there first, and they didn't realize it until the larger group arrived and there weren't enough tables/places set. By that time, the 'independents' had all gotten served and were eating; what could they do?

A couple from the larger group sat down with us and asked us about our tour, and they were the ones I told about our arrangement and its cost. They turned to others who’d been with them and announced the details, loudly enough so the whole room heard, which started a lot of bitching and complaining. I gathered they weren't very happy with the ship's tour to begin with, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. We finished up and beat it out of there, but overheard later that one of the excursion staff came to check on something and ran into a real mess. I caught a cold on the trip, which forced me to bed the second day following in Tallinn, so by the time we reappeared we heard about the contretemps' but apparently no one recalled who started it, thankfully.

Because of what happened to us, I would probably not use AllTravelRussia if I were to go again, or if I did, I would be sure to get confirmation of every detail of the tour. They do have good reviews generally, and we were certainly helped by their visa department and liked the guides and drivers. Their weakness, I say now with full 20:20 hindsight, is that once the sales person who plans the tour, sells it to you and collects your money, he (or she) transfers the plan to their Russia office for implementation; there is no follow-up to make sure it gets done right. And that is where our problems arose; we paid for a custom tour but got a standard package with a few destinations switched, and no one checked them out, even to see when they were open the day we were scheduled to go. If you check every detail that’s important to you, it should be OK, but that’s a hell of a way to have to do business, in my opinion.

Thank you for the 20/20 hindsight observation on your Russian tour operator, and better priced than the ship's excursion cost.

Thanks very much for the feedback.

We had the same experience as you so far as price. We originally booked a Viking Cruise but, hearing some things about the river cruises that made us unhappy, looked into other options. T-A-R cost the same or less than a cruise and had us in hotels for 11 days. We opted for the private tour. They have three tour levels, based on hotels. We originally opted for the four star as it did not cost much more than the three star hotels. Finally we decided to throw it all in and upgraded to five star. In Moscow we will be at the newly opened Kempinsky which is two blocks from Red Square. In St. Petersburg it is the Grand Hotel Europe, one of the most vaunted luxury hotels in Russia. Location is important for us as the tours use up only part of the day so being in the center of everything for our independent touring is important. As with many other cities, the less you pay, the farther out of the center of town you are.

We have been working with our salesman in D.C. and he seems to get back to us with the changes we want. He recently returned from Russia so is up on everything. When I asked they said they paid the full TA commission if I wanted so I got my usual TA on board so he is watching our back and giving us that extra level of comfort. He also set up our air, which I know pays him little or nothing, and got us business class for much less than T-A-R wanted for economy, though it took working for a while with a consolidator. He's happy to get his 10 percent on this trip without having booked it. He also took care of the trip insurance. We've been doing a lot of research on the CC sister site Trip Advisor and will write a report there. We will, I guess, become a source of info for CC members after having spent 5 days in Moscow and 6 in SP.
