RAMMSTEIN Announces Summer 2022 North American Stadium Tour

The North American debut of the most extreme spectacle in live music will finally take place in fall 2022 when RAMMSTEIN brings its full-scale stadium production to this continent for the first time ever. Rock and roll's most ambitious pyro-theatrical experience will be on display for a series of 12 open-air dates beginning August 21, 2022 at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal and setting seven U.S. stadiums ablaze before concluding at Foro Sol in Mexico City on October 4, 2022. The tour is produced by AEG Presents .

Due to overwhelming popular demand, the tour has added a second date at the L.A. Coliseum on Saturday, September 24, 2022 and a third show at Foro Sol in Mexico City on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Tickets for the new shows will go on sale to the public 10 a.m. local time Friday, May 28. Tickets for the original shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates. To purchase tickets or for further information, go to rammstein.com .

A year ago, RAMMSTEIN postponed its 2020 North American stadium tour due to the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping the globe. The trek was then moved to the summer of 2021 before being postponed once again.

RAMMSTEIN 's seventh, untitled album came out in May 2019 via UME / Spinefarm in Europe and Caroline Records in the U.S. The band's first studio disc since 2009's "Liebe Ist Für Alle Da" debuted at No. 1 on the album charts in 14 countries and was the band's tenth No. 1 in Germany. The LP was produced by Olsen Involtini with RAMMSTEIN and was mixed at a Santa Monica, California studio with Rich Costey , an American producer who has previously worked with MUSE , RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and FRANZ FERDINAND , among others.

The 25th-anniversary edition of RAMMSTEIN 's debut album, "Herzeleid" , was made available in December via Vertigo / UMe . "Herzeleid (XXV Anniversary Edition - Remastered)" features the album's original track listing on a single CD, housed in a lavish, cross-shaped digipak with deluxe slipcase, and, for the first time ever, the remastered album with HD sound was made available digitally. In addition, there was a 2LP version with a slipcase containing two 180-gram heavyweight black vinyl discs with blue splatter effect. The creator of the original artwork, Dirk Rudolph , was also responsible for the "Anniversary Edition" packaging. The booklets also contain the original band portraits shot by Praler . Both the CD and vinyl editions are strictly limited.

Rammstein at Foxborough Stadium

Last Friday, the Rammstein North American Stadium Tour rolled into Foxborough, MA and set Gillette Stadium on fire.  Due to the pandemic, the tour originally scheduled for 2020 to promote their 2019 self-titled album was initially postponed to 2021 and then again to 2022.  The Foxborough date was the 5th stop and midpoint in the 8-stadium 3 country tour.

The show opened up with the playing of the Music for the Royal Fireworks as a massive screen displaying the band’s logo ascending above the main stage in the darkened stadium.  As soon as the display reached its peak the stage was brightly lit and the crowd jumped to their feet cheering.  A startling set of loud explosions occurred, followed by a technobeat as the 6 band members individually emerged from the smoke to take the stage.   From that moment on, the band unleashed a 2.5 hour spectacle of industrial metal, pyrotechnics, and showmanship into the late summer air.

Rammstein’s music consists of driving bass lines, grinding guitar riffs, and Till Lindemann’s signature vocals.  Their 20+ song setlist included “ Heirate mich ” and “ Rammstein ”, played live for the first time in 18 and 14 years, respectively.

Rammstein, known for their larger than life stage productions, thrilled the crowd with multiple fire-laden mini skits throughout the night.  The first happened when Till pushed a large metal pram out on the stage and donned a live camera over his eye allowing the audience a voyeuristic view of the hideously deformed baby doll inside.  During the chorus, the pram erupts in flames while black confetti is showered over the crowd before the flames extinguish and the pram is wheeled off the stage.

The fire and flames appeared multiple times through the night from the 3 towers of the main stage to a large flame thrower vehicle blasting a large cauldron brought to the stage containing Christian “Flake” Lorenz, the band’s keyboard player.  During “Rammstein”, the first song of their second encore, Till donned a flame-throwing backpack shooting a 40 foot plume of flames around him while behind him guitarists Paul Landers and Richard Kruspe shot flames from their guitars.

Starting the night as a Rammstein noob, I, like the majority in attendance, didn’t understand any of the German song lyrics, but it turns out I didn’t need to.  I found myself compelled by the power of their music and by the end I was blown away by one of the most spectacular shows I had ever experienced and left as a legitimate fan.

Rammstein prepares to set Gillette Stadium ablaze

The Boston area has wilted through an unusually hot summer. It’s about to get even hotter when the Berlin-based “neue Deutsche härte” (new German hardness) band Rammstein comes to Foxborough Friday for Gillette Stadium’s last concert of the year. And that’s not just hyperbole. The spec sheet for the group’s first outdoor tour of North American stadiums lists 65-foot flames and temperatures reaching up to 600 degrees.

It will be a flashing, large-scale, phantasmagorical stage show, a thunder-and-lightning amusement park of giant towers, light, explosions, fireballs, smoke, flares, confetti, and flamethrowers. A wall of heat typically hits the popular Feuerzone — basically a giant, sweaty mosh pit in front of the stage, so its occupants might want to keep a bottle of cold water handy.

Rammstein’s stage is 200 feet wide, 100 feet deep, and 120 feet high. It takes four days to build and assemble the reported 1,350 tons of equipment at every tour stop. Each show has 586 pyro effects and uses 860 pounds of confetti. It’s all run by Rammstein’s 265-person crew with an additional 260 local assistants helping at each concert.

The band’s stadium tour was originally scheduled for 2020 and 2021, but the pandemic twice forced postponement. Rammstein used the time off to write and record this year’s “Zeit” (Virgin Records). “Zeit” (“Time”) is Rammstein’s eighth studio album since forming in 1994, all recorded with the same six musicians: vocalist Till Lindemann, guitarists Richard Kruspe and Paul Landers, bassist Oliver Riedel, keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz, and drummer Christoph Schneider.

The subject matter of Rammstein’s music is usually harsher than your average radio-ready tracks. But the band has also been unfairly tied to the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School because one of the killers was shown wearing a Rammstein T-shirt. Band members responded that nothing in their lyrics or drawn from their political beliefs, which are left-leaning and anti-violence, could have influenced the tragedy. Still, they’re not shy about themes that could court controversy, and Rammstein’s music is about releasing aggression. “Should we stop making hard music because bad people might like it?” drummer Schneider once said in an interview.

“Zeit” exposes a few delicate nooks of the Rammstein musical psyche, but there’s little that is delicate about the crushing snarl of the current show. The tour’s setlist of endorphin boosters includes a handful of songs from “Zeit” and spans the group’s eight studio albums, but not before kicking off with the fanfare of Handel’s “Music for the Royal Fireworks” to announce the onslaught that’s about to begin. It’s a proudly loud metal concert in the Rammstein tradition, generating noise complaints from as far as 11 miles away.

There may be an extravaganza of extreme pyro theatrics behind the music, but the fireworks would be totally out of place without Rammstein’s gale-force rock to propel it. It’s a nearly non-stop marching machine of vicious precision, even on slightly laid-back sections like those in “Mein Herz Brennt” (“My Heart Burns”). There’s no subtlety as drum hits spark explosions for the true head-banging experience. Meanwhile, the band likes to have fun onstage; at one point in the show, keyboardist Flake appears to be boiling in a giant cooking pot as singer Till blasts it with a flamethrower. Flake later plays his keys while riding a Segway. And the band uses life rafts to surf the crowd.

The fact that Rammstein’s lyrics are sung in German hasn’t prevented American audiences from shouting along. And the Teutonic edge of the verses serves to underline the bombs-away aspects of the music while the stage explodes around the band. By the time the show ends with a medley of “Sonne,” “Haifisch,” and “Ohne Dich,” one almost expects that the asteroid that was named after the band in 2006, 110393 Rammstein , would appear for the finale.

When the North American tour ends later this month, all the heat will be packed into 43 containers and shipped back to Europe.
