The Tata Nexon, Harrier and Safari Red Dark Editions gets a list of new features, including Carnelian Red leatherette seats, #DARK emblem on headrests and red grab handles on doors. Along with these, the updated Harrier and Safari SUVs now comes equipped with a 10.25-inch HARMAN touchscreen infotainment system with 200+ Voice commands, a 7.0-inch digital TFT instrument cluster, 6-way powered driver's seat with memory and a 360-degree camera. Furthermore, the Safari also gets 4-way powered co-driver's seat with electric Boss mode and mood lighting around the panoramic sunroof.

Tata Safari Red Dark Edition Revealed – Key Features Explained

Tata Motors has unveiled the Safari Red Dark Edition at the ongoing Bharat Mobility Global Expo in Delhi. Introducing the model, the carmaker says that its “an all-new #DARK Persona that exudes sportiness and magnetism”. The Tata Safari Dark Edition has been painted in an Oberon Black paint scheme and Charcoal Black R19 alloy wheels, with striking red highlights on the fender badging, fog lamp inserts, and brake calipers.

Inside, the Tata Safari Red Dark Edition features a Carmelian Red and Steel Black theme, complemented by red leatherette upholstery and dark chrome inserts throughout. The dashboard showcases a steel black finish with a contrasting red LED strip running across it.

This Dark edition of the SUV is based on the top-end Accomplished + 6-seater automatic variant and is equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Read: Tata Harrier EV Production Model Unveiled; Launch In Late 2024

The interior also features a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, a 10-speaker JBL sound system, a panoramic sunroof, a gesture-enabled powered tailgate, an air purifier, ventilated front and rear seats, a 6-way powered driver’s seat with a memory function, wireless phone charging, 4-way powered co-driver’s seat with an electric boss mode, dual-zone climate control, and ambient lighting. In terms of safety, the Tata Safari Dark Edition comes with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology, seven airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and more.

Under the hood, no changes have been made, and the Tata Safari Dark Edition retains the 2.0L diesel engine paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This setup delivers a claimed power of 170PS and 350Nm of torque.

While the launch date has not been specified, the Safari Red Dark Edition is expected to soon hit the roads. Regarding pricing, it is anticipated to be slightly premium compared to the regular top-end Dark edition, which is priced at Rs 27.34 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors is known to introduce limited edition variants of its models, however, this time, Tata Motors has introduced limited edition variants of a limited edition variant — the Tata Safari Red Dark edition. These new variants were launched recently, priced at Rs 22.61 lakh onwards, ex-showroom .

The new Tata Safari Red Dark edition is offered in two versions — six and seven-seater options, while they are further split into three trim levels — XZ+, XZA+, and XZA+(O). The XZ+ and XZA+ share the same features, however, the XZA+(O) gets a few additions. Here is the detailed list of features in each variant of the Tata Safari Red Dark edition.

Before we get into more details, the Tata Safari is powered by a sole 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 168bhp and 350Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.

Auto Expo 2023: Tata Harrier, Safari Red Dark Edition Debut With ADAS, New Features

Tata Motors rounded out its Auto Expo 2023 product offensive with the unveiling of the Harrier and Safari Red Dark Edition. While on the exterior changes only appeared to be limited to just cosmetics it was what is inside that is the bigger news. Both Red Dark Edition models feature additional kit over the current Harrier and Safari range including getting Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Upgrades to interior include a new digital instrument cluster and larger 10.25-inch touchscreen

Both SUVs on display received autonomous emergency braking, forward & rear collision warnings, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot assist, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, lane change alert and high beam assist. This was accentuated by 6 airbags and an “enhanced electronic safety program with 17 functionalities”.

Moving to the cabin, the Dark Red Editions also debuted new 7.0-inch digital instrument clusters replete with overhauled graphics as well as larger 10.25-inch touchscreens (up from the current 8.8-inch display). Both models also feature over 200+ voice commands in 6 regional languages along with packing in iRA-connected car tech. Both models also received new 360-degree cameras.

The new touchscreen also brought with it tweaks to the centre console with the single piece housing for the air-con vents and touchscreen replaced by a new split unit housing fewer control surfaces. Also new to the equipment list was a memory function for the driver seat in both SUVs while the Safari also offered an electrically adjustable passenger seat with captain seats in the second row (with ventilation function). Both SUVs get ventilated front seats.

Cosmetically, the cabin featured a dual-tone black and red interior with the dark finished elements from the current Dark Editions now paired with Red upholstery. The Safari additionally featured ambient lighting in the doors and along the edges of the panoramic sunroof.

Coming to the exterior, the Harrier and Safari Red Dark Editions came finished in Oberon Black paired with blacked-out wheels and red accents in the grille and on the Dark Edition badging along with red brake calipers.

Mechanically, both SUVs continued to use the same 168 bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine as the current models though the Harrier did receive an update. The Harrier Red Dark Edition featured all-wheel disc brakes – up from the current front discs and rear drums.

Tata is expected to launch both Red Dark Editions in India in the coming months.

Along with the updated iterations of the Harrier and Safari SUVs that are due to launch next month, Tata Motors seems to be preparing market introductions of the Red Dark editions of both these SUVs, as well as the popular Nexon . Latest teaser from Tata Motors confirms that the price announcement of the Nexon, Harrier and Safari Red Dark edition will take place tomorrow, February 22, 2023.

Tata Red Dark editions: What are they?

At Auto Expo 2023 last month, the brand showcased Harrier and Safari Dark editions but with additional red accents and more features. The SUVs shown at Auto Expo were christened Tata Red Dark editions and had an all-black exterior, 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers and a subtle red insert on the grille.

Equipment-wise, the SUVs had a better touchscreen infotainment system, ADAS and a fully digital instrument cluster, and added safety in the form of six airbags. Other unique cosmetic bits include Carnelian Red seats with a quilted pattern, red grab handles, ventilated front seats, unique grey trim on the dashboard and a piano black theme on the steering wheel. They also had red ambient lighting and a few other bits.

While the brand has not confirmed what all from this will actually make it to the production-spec Tata Nexon, Harrier and Safari Red Dark editions, we expect the feature list to be more or less similar to what was shown at Auto Expo 2023.

As reported earlier, Tata Motors recently upgraded its entire passenger vehicle line-up to comply with the Bharat Stage 6 Phase-II norms, and this means there won’t be any mechanical changes seen on the updated Harrier, Safari or Nexon, or even on their Red Dark iterations.

Tata Safari Red Dark Edition launched in India at Rs 22.61 lakh

- Equipped with ADAS features and BS6 Phase 2 powertrain

- Gets larger touchscreen unit with digital instrument cluster

Tata Motors has launched the Safari Red Dark Edition in India at a starting price of Rs 22.61 lakh (ex-showroom). Based on the existing Dark Edition, it is available in two variants and benefits with ADAS features for the first time. Interested customers can now book the SUV from the nearest authorised Tata Motors dealership against a token amount of Rs 30,000.

Visually, the Safari’s aesthetics are enhanced with the Oberon Black exterior hue with splashes of red accents on the front grille and on the brake calipers. It rides on the same 18-inch Charcoal Black alloy wheels, and the #Dark badge on the fenders gets red detailing.

The cabin gets a host of changes with the Carnelian Red leatherette upholstery with a quilting pattern and #Dark motifs on the headrests as its major highlight. The Safari Red Dark Edition is now equipped with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a seven-inch digital driver’s display.

Another talking point of this Safari special edition is the set of ADAS features, which is a first for Tata models. The active safety tech includes a blind-spot monitor with a 360-degree camera, rear cross-traffic alert, forward and rear collision warning with autonomous braking, lane departure warning, and traffic sign recognition.

Under the long bonnet, the Safari Red Dark continues to be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The motor is BS6 Phase 2-compliant and produces 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. The transmission options include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission.
