This versatility allows you to earn rewards as you go about your daily routine, making the most of your purchases without having to compromise on your lifestyle.
Moreover, the Sam’s Club® Mastercard® Rewards Program is designed to provide transparency and convenience. You can easily track your cash back earnings through your account statements, ensuring that you stay informed about the rewards you’ve accumulated. With the Sam’s Club® Mastercard® Rewards Program, earning cash back on your everyday purchases is both effortless and rewarding. By leveraging your card for a wide array of expenses, you can steadily accumulate cash back rewards that reflect your spending habits and preferences.
One of the primary avenues for earning cash back is through your purchases at Sam’s Club. Whether you’re restocking your pantry, upgrading your tech gadgets, or investing in home essentials, every transaction at Sam’s Club using your Mastercard can contribute to your cash back rewards. This makes it easy to earn rewards while shopping for the products and services you already love and rely on.
Furthermore, the rewards program extends beyond Sam’s Club purchases, allowing you to earn cash back on everyday expenses such as dining out, filling up your gas tank, and booking travel accommodations. This versatility ensures that you can make the most of your cash back potential, no matter where your spending takes you.
It’s important to note that the Sam’s Club® Mastercard® offers tiered cash back rewards, meaning that you can earn higher percentages of cash back in specific spending categories. By understanding these tiers and their respective earning potentials, you can strategically allocate your purchases to maximize your cash back rewards. Maximizing your cash back rewards with the Sam’s Club® Mastercard® involves strategic planning and a keen understanding of how to leverage your spending to optimize your rewards potential. By implementing thoughtful tactics and embracing the versatility of the rewards program, you can amplify the value of your cash back earnings.
One effective strategy for maximizing your cash back rewards is to align your spending with the tiered earning structure of the Sam’s Club® Mastercard®. By identifying the spending categories that offer higher percentages of cash back, you can prioritize purchases in those areas to boost your overall rewards. For example, if the card offers a higher cash back percentage on gas purchases, you can make a conscious effort to fuel up at eligible stations to capitalize on this earning opportunity.
Another way to optimize your cash back rewards is to take advantage of special promotions and offers that may be available to Sam’s Club® Mastercard® holders. Keep an eye out for exclusive deals or bonus cash back opportunities, as these can provide additional avenues for increasing your rewards. By staying informed about promotional incentives, you can make informed decisions about when and where to make your purchases to maximize your cash back potential.
Additionally, consider consolidating your everyday spending onto your Sam’s Club® Mastercard® to centralize your earning potential. By using your card for a wide range of expenses, from groceries to entertainment, you can ensure that you are consistently earning cash back on your purchases. It’s also beneficial to review your account statements regularly to track your cash back earnings and identify opportunities for optimizing your rewards. By monitoring your spending patterns and the corresponding cash back rewards, you can make informed adjustments to your purchasing behavior to align with your rewards goals.
Ultimately, maximizing your cash back rewards with the Sam’s Club® Mastercard® involves a proactive and strategic approach to spending. By capitalizing on tiered earning structures, exploring promotional opportunities, and consolidating your spending, you can elevate the value of your cash back rewards and enjoy the tangible benefits of smart, intentional financial management.
Redeeming your cash back rewards from the Sam’s Club® Mastercard® is a gratifying process that allows you to transform your accumulated rewards into tangible savings and benefits. With a seamless and user-friendly redemption system, you can unlock the value of your cash back and enjoy the perks of your diligent spending.
One of the key avenues for redeeming your cash back rewards is through statement credits. This straightforward option allows you to apply your cash back earnings directly to your credit card balance, effectively reducing the amount you owe. By leveraging statement credits, you can offset your future purchases or simply enjoy the peace of mind that comes with reducing your outstanding balance.
Another appealing redemption option is to convert your cash back rewards into Sam’s Club rewards. By seamlessly integrating your cash back rewards into your Sam’s Club shopping experience, you can enhance your overall savings and purchasing power.
Furthermore, the Sam’s Club® Mastercard® offers the flexibility to redeem your cash back rewards in the form of cash. This option provides you with the freedom to receive your earnings directly, allowing you to utilize your cash back rewards according to your specific financial needs and preferences.
It’s important to note that the redemption process is designed to be user-friendly and accessible. Sam’s Club Mastercard review: Good earnings if you have a Plus membership
Sam's Club® Mastercard® overview
The Sam's Club® Mastercard® is a cash-back credit card available to Sam's Club members. Although it doesn't offer bonus earnings on Sam's Club purchases without a Plus membership, this no-annual-fee card does offer 5% back on gas and 3% back on dining. The rewards are issued within one to two billing cycles of being earned and are easy to use at Sam's Club. Card rating*: ⭐⭐⭐
*Card rating is based on the opinion of TPG's editors and is not influenced by the card issuer.
The Sam's Club Mastercard may sound appealing if you frequently shop at Sam's Club, prefer to earn cash back or don't want to pay an annual fee on your credit card. Yes, the Sam's Club Mastercard checks those boxes.
However, the card has low earning rates for everyday purchases and only provides cash back on Sam's Club purchases to those with more expensive Plus memberships. On the other hand, the card provides quality earning rates for gas and restaurant purchases.
Let's take a closer look at the Sam's Club Mastercard to see whether it deserves a place in your wallet.
The information for the Sam's Club Mastercard has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Sam's Club Mastercard welcome offer
Store credit cards usually offer rather depressing sign-up bonuses and the Sam's Club Mastercard (issued by Synchrony Bank) is no exception.
New applicants can receive a $30 statement credit after making $30 in Sam's Club purchases within the first 30 days of account opening. While something is better than nothing, $30 in value is quite low for a credit card welcome bonus . However, it is a 100% return on spending and doesn't require much effort .

Sam's Club Mastercard benefits
Even the best no-annual-fee cards don't offer many perks. However, the benefits are abnormally few on the Sam's Club Mastercard, offering only the following:
- No foreign transaction fees .
- No annual fee.
- Accepted at all Sam's Club and Walmart locations nationwide.
- Online account access, including the ability to request a credit line increase .
- Doubles as your Sam's Club membership card.
Out of these advertised benefits, only two are notable perks: no foreign transaction fees and no annual fee. After all, Sam's Club locations accept most credit cards plus other payment methods. Saying that the Sam's Club Mastercard is accepted at all Sam's Club and Walmart locations nationwide isn't notable.

Earning cash back on the Sam's Club Mastercard
With the Sam's Club Mastercard, you'll earn cash back as follows:
- 5% at gas stations (on the first $6,000 per calendar year, then 1%).
- 3% on dining and takeout.
- 1% on other purchases.
Sam's Club Plus members also earn up to 5% back on Sam's Club purchases — all Plus members already receive 2% back on qualifying purchases (up to $500 cash back per year), and cardholders earn an additional 3% back. A Plus membership costs $110 annually.
Without a Plus membership, you'll earn just 1% back on Sam's Club purchases. If you're looking for better earnings without a $110-per-year membership, consider a 2% cash-back credit card .
Earning 5% back on gas is uncommon — especially for a card with no annual fee — making this card a great option for those who spend a lot on gas. These earnings apply at all gas stations (not just Sam's Club gas stations), though there are a few exclusions: warehouse clubs that aren't Sam's Club and gas stations at grocery stores. Earning 3% back on dining is another strong category on this card.
Rewards are earned in the form of Sam's Cash. You can earn a maximum of $5,000 of Sam's Cash per year with your card. It's worth noting that you won't earn cash back on purchases of tobacco, electronic cigarettes, prescription drugs, gift cards or other cash equivalents.

Redeeming cash back on the Sam's Club Mastercard
Sam's Cash is automatically issued within one to two billing cycles of being earned and loaded onto your Sam's Club membership account. Then, you can use this cash back at Sam's Club for in-club, online and app purchases. You can also use Sam's Cash toward renewing or upgrading your membership, or you can cash it out by requesting cash back at a staffed register or Member Services.
However, you won't get any cash back — or your available cash-back balance will be forfeited — in the following cases:
- Your card account isn't in good standing.
- Your Sam's Club membership is terminated, canceled or revoked by Sam's Club.
- Your card account is canceled or closed (either by you or Synchrony Bank).
Sam's Cash does not expire as long as you remain an active Sam's Club member.
If you plan to maintain a Sam's Club membership for years to come and periodically shop at Sam's Club, this redemption scheme is ideal for its ease of use. But, if you don't spend much with Sam's Club, it may be best to check whether a different card might provide more earnings overall.

Which cards compete with the Sam's Club Mastercard?
It's worth considering other cards for your wallet, such as those from Walmart and Costco, as well as cards that provide good earnings on everyday spending without charging an annual fee.
- If you want to earn at a warehouse club with a basic membership: The Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi (see rates and fees ) has no annual fee but requires an active Costco membership. You'll earn 4% back on gas and EV charging (on up to $7,000 of purchases per year, then 1% back), 3% back on restaurants and eligible travel, 2% back on Costco purchases (both in-store and online) and 1% back on other purchases. Cash rewards are available annually. For more information, read our full review of the Costco Visa card .
- If you want better earnings on everyday purchases: The Citi Double Cash® Card (see rates and fees ) has no annual fee and earns 2 Citi ThankYou points on all purchases: 1 point when you buy and 1 point when you pay your bill. You can redeem these points for travel or cash them out, providing options for your earnings. For more information, read our full review of the Citi Double Cash .
- If you want increased earnings at Walmart: The Capital One Walmart Rewards® Card has no annual fee and earns 5% back at Walmart.com (including pickup and delivery), 2% back at Walmart stores, 2% back at restaurants and on travel and 1% back on other purchases. Earnings can be redeemed for cash, to cover recent purchases, for travel or for gift cards. For more information, read our full review of the Walmart Rewards card .
- If you want increased earnings and will shop online: The Prime Visa has no annual fee but requires an active Prime membership to unlock its earning potential. You can earn 5% back on Amazon.com purchases and at Whole Foods Market, 2% back at restaurants and gas stations and 1% back on other purchases. For more information, read our full review of the Prime Visa .

Is the Sam's Club Mastercard worth it?
If you aren't a Sam's Club member, joining to get the Sam's Club Mastercard likely won't make sense. For existing members (especially those with Plus memberships), you may benefit from the card's earning categories. It's also worth checking whether any of the best cards for gas and dining purchases would be a better fit for you.

Bottom line
Earning bonus cash back on gas and dining is nice. The real power of this card comes from pairing it with a Plus membership at Sam's Club, which has an added cost, so check whether you're earning enough to offset this expense.
If you shop often at Sam's Club, this can be a good card. However, you may earn more with a card providing higher earnings on everyday expenses since you're probably not shopping at Sam's Club every day.

As of May 1, 2022, the Citi Forward Limited Time earns 5% cash back (on up to $6,000 spent per year, then 1%) at EV charging stations and eligible gas stations worldwide, including stations at Sam’s Club. See our review for up-to-date details.
The Sam's Club® Mastercard® is altering its rewards, and whether it's good or bad news will depend largely on your membership tier with the wholesale club.
The credit card, issued by Synchrony Bank, has ditched travel as a bonus category, and while its other big change could make up for that, not every cardholder is eligible to benefit from it:
For those with a Sam's Club "Plus" membership ($100 a year): The card is boosting your incentive for eligible Sam's Club shopping, up to a possible total of 5% cash back.
For those with only a baseline "Club" membership ($45 a year): You're getting a worse deal. Not only are you losing travel as a 3% bonus category, but you don't qualify for any bonus rewards on Sam's Club shopping either.
The card itself will maintain its $0 annual fee.

How the rewards structure is changing
The Sam's Club® Mastercard® is losing travel as a 3% bonus category but will still earn:
5% cash back on gas (on the first $6,000 per year in purchases, then 1%).
3% back on dining.
1% back on other purchases (including travel).
Beyond that, rewards with the card now hinge on your membership tier with Sam's Club and how much shopping you do there:
The card still imposes a $5,000 cap on total cash-back rewards that can be earned in a calendar year.
What it means for existing cardholders
While Sam's Club Plus members, independent of the credit card, have long qualified for that 2% back on eligible purchases with the retailer, the Sam's Club® Mastercard® itself did not previously offer any bonus rewards on Sam's Club shopping beyond the 1% base rate — unusual for a co-branded store credit card .
So this could be welcome news for members at the Plus level, assuming travel wasn't a big part of their spending.
“We crunched the numbers and we looked at how many people were using the travel benefit,” says Tony Rogers, senior vice president and chief member officer at Sam’s Club. “Under this new arrangement, 98% of our members are better off because they spend more with us than they do on travel.”
But for baseline Club members, the news isn't good. The card will still earn only the base 1% rate on Sam's Club shopping, and there's no added value to replace the loss of travel as a bonus category.
(There is no membership-related shopping bonus at the Club membership tier, either.)
Sam's Club Plus members will transition to a new card with updated art and Sam’s Club logo in spring 2021. Until then, they can continue to use their current card as normal. Account numbers will not change.

Other changes
Recently, the Sam's Club® Mastercard® has also rolled out a number of digital enchancements — perhaps most notably in terms of rewards.
Instead of receiving a paper check, cardholders now get rewards automatically loaded onto membership cards to be used for future purchases online or at a Sam’s Club location, or for cash back.

What is Sam's Club?
Sam's Club offers members great bulk savings on a variety of items at the warehouse club including pantry staples, prepared food, household goods, electronics, tires and prescriptions. You can either find these discounts in-person at Sam's Club locations, or you can shop for them online and pick them up at the nearest Sam's club location.
Is a Sam's Club membership worth it?
In a word, yes. You can score thousands of top-rated items from food to home essentials to prescriptions and more for prices better than the usual visit to the grocery store. If you're shopping in-person, a Sam's Club membership lets you scan and pay for items through your phone so you can skip the agony of checkout lines. The perks don't stop there. Members also get instant savings on already low member prices (limited-time promotions loaded onto each member's active card), free shipping on select items, free curbside pick-up and free tire repair. Yes, regardless of where you purchased your tires, as long as they meet USTMA (U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association) guidelines, they can be repaired at any Sam’s Club.
You can even get discounts on gas, which is a no-brainer if you're heading out of town this holiday season. Most Sam’s Club fuel stations are restricted to Sam’s Club members and you must present your membership card to purchase fuel at a discounted rate. The select locations that are open to the public offer a $0.05 discount for members—so either way you'll scoop some neat savings on high-quality regular, premium and diesel fuel. Keep in mind the discount depends on your city and Sam’s Club location.
How do I sign up for a Sam's Club membership?
Visit the Sam's Club website and choose between the standard membership or the Plus membership. Standard membership will run you $50 a year, while the Plus membership costs $110 annually, with the Plus membership giving you free shipping for orders and exclusive pharmacy and optical savings.
What is Sam's Cash?
Sam's Cash is a rewards program available to all Sam's Club members that earns you cash back on future Sam's Club purchases when you complete qualifying activities at third-party merchants. If you're a current Sam's Club member, all you have to do is link your eligible credit or debit card and find third-party merchants participating in the Sam's Cash Bonus Offers program to make qualifying purchases. Making yourself eligible for Sam's Cash is totally free and once you earn rewards, you can use them on most direct purchases from Sam’s Club online, in-person or on the Sam's Club app. The cherry on top? Sam's Cash never expires.
What if I'm not happy with my Sam's Club purchase?
One of the best Sam's Club perks alleviates any fear of buyer's remorse. If you’re not totally happy with your purchase, you can return most items for a replacement or a refund under the retailer's 100% merchandise satisfaction guarantee. (Plus, if you're a credit card points junkie, Sam's may be your best bet: Sam's Club accepts Amex, Visa, Discover and MasterCard—Costco infamously only accepts Visa.)
If you decide a Sam's Club membership isn't for you, don't worry—you can cancel at any time before your yearly membership renews by contacting a member service representative via phone, through live chat online or by visiting any in-club Member Services Desk.

- Price: $89.98
Despite having more than 1,200 five-star ratings, the Keurig K-Mini coffee maker isn't a hit with all Sam's Club members. Currently, the product has 279 one-star reviews.
One recurring complaint was that the Keurig didn't work well and broke easily.
"I've bought two of these and the first one quit after three or four months," wrote reviewer FreakyGranny. "I thought maybe I just got a lemon but then when I purchased the next one it lasted about the same amount of time. Will never buy again!"
Member's Mark Rotisserie Baby Back Ribs
- Price: $12.98
Many Sam's Club-prepared foods are big hits with customers. The Member's Mark rotisserie baby back ribs, with 200 one-star reviews, is less than a crowd-pleaser. Commonly cited complaints included the meat being too dry, overcooked and tough to eat.
For You: The Best $20 You Can Spend at Dollar Tree, According to Superfans
Member's Mark Southern Style Chicken Sandwich
- Price: $19.98
There are 310 one-star reviews for the Member's Mark Southern-style chicken sandwich on the Sam's Club website. Common complaints from reviewers included disliking the taste of the chicken and the bread for the sandwich being too dry and small.
"It tasted ok in the club as a sample but it's gross," wrote reviewer Kay.
I Can't Believe It's Not Butter! Original
- Price: $9.98
No pun intended, but we could not believe this product had 510 one-star ratings.
Why are there so many complaints for I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!? It seems the majority of the negative reviews were frustrated about the brand's choice to change its recipe.
"For the past ten years, I've been a regular consumer of the product. It had great buttermilk flavor and nice consistency for eating and flavoring of cooked foods," wrote reviewer Homecooking923. "Since your new recipe was introduced I found it lacking in all areas. No flavor, too oily and its artificial appearance is unappetizing. We have consumed our last tub of your product and will be switching to a real butter product that comes straight from the cow."

7 Surprising Things You Can Buy at Warehouse Stores
You wouldn’t expect to purchase these items at bj’s, costco and sam’s club .
Donna Fuscaldo,

Toilet paper and cleaning products aren’t the only things you can buy at warehouse clubs. These days they hawk everything from vacations to gold. The warehouse clubs probably don’t make a ton of money selling these unusual items, but they do create a buzz that can drive more members to their stores.
That’s the case at Costco, which has been doing brisk business selling gold bars to its members. Demand is so strong the warehouse retailer limits it to two gold bars per member. Another reason warehouse club stores sell out-of-the-box items is to meet demand as they morph into one-stop-shopping meccas.

“We rely on our wholesale clubs for our jugs of cooking oil, giant spices, flats of canned goods, and all the paper plates we’ll need all summer, but wholesale clubs often carry items that we don’t expect,” says Trae Bodge, a shopping expert at TrueTrae.com. “I think in the Amazon age, many retailers are trying to be all things to all people and this is evidence of that. I think for the senior customer, that one-stop-shop approach is a real draw and might help to retain that shopper even after all their kids have left the nest.”
With that in mind, here are seven surprising things you can find at warehouse retailers .
1. Weight-loss drugs
GLP-1 RA medicines are all the rage with countless people using Ozempic and Wegovy to lose weight. That hasn’t been lost on Costco, which last fall got into the health care market via a partnership with Sesame, a low-cost health care provider. Costco began by offering members online primary care visits starting at $29. In April it announced that members will get access to Seasme’s weight loss program, which includes Ozempic and Wegovy, for $179 for three months. Customers have to pay extra for the medicine. A prescription for Ozempic 1mg dose costs $962 in store at Costco and $964 for in-home delivery. Wegovy costs $1,340 in store and $1,342 for home delivery.
2. Musical instruments
Want to channel your inner Jimi Hendrix with an electric guitar or your inner Louis Armstrong with a trumpet? The good news is you don’t have to scour the music stores or look online for your next musical instrument, you can purchase it at BJ’s or Costco. A Jean Paul TR-430 intermediate trumpet goes for $380 at BJ’s, while a Washburn Festival EA15ATB acoustic electric guitar at Costco costs $230.

3. Gold bars
Unique to Costco, gold bars are in demand and the warehouse retailer is answering that by selling 1-ounce gold PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna Veriscan bars via the Costco website. Delivery time is about two to three business days. The gold bars are not eligible for returns or refunds, can only be purchased online and are limited to two gold bars per member.
4. Engagement rings
It’s never too late to get married or remarried , and what better way to buy an engagement ring than when you are stocking up on paper towels and food? Remarriage rate statistics for older adults vary but are generally high. According to Bowling Green State University’s National Center for Family & Marriage Research, 28 percent of 45- to 64-year-olds and 31 percent of those 65-plus are remarried. All of these warehouse club retailers sell engagement rings at various price points. Take BJ’s: An engagement ring can set you back $500 for a .33-carat total weight princess-cut solitaire ring in 14k white gold or $1,200 for an Amairah 1.00-carat total weight diamond halo four-prong engagement ring in 14k white gold.
Coupons for Local Stores
Save on clothing, gifts, beauty and other everyday shopping needs
Sam’s Club prices a 1.45-carat total weight emerald-shape diamond ring in 14k white gold at $1,629, while a superior quality VS Collection 4.07-carat total weight round diamond solitaire ring in 18k white gold can cost $80,000.
Costco’s diamond rings range from $1,000 for a round brilliant 0.40-carat VS2 clarity, I color diamond platinum solitaire ring to $300,000 for a round brilliant 6.55-carat VS1 clarity, G color diamond platinum solitaire ring. The warehouse retailers also sell cheaper engagement rings with a variety of precious stones from onyx to sapphire.

5. Hearing aids
Roughly 1 in 3 people in the U.S. between ages 65 and 74 have hearing loss, yet only about 30 percent of adults 70 and older who could benefit from hearing aids use one. That’s despite the many benefits , including staving off dementia and lessening your chances of falling. So maybe it is not surprising for some warehouse retailers to cater to a large share of their customer base by selling hearing aids. Costco and Sam’s Club sell a variety of hearing aids and hearing aid batteries.
Interested in taking the grandkids to Disney or going on an Alaskan cruise? Well, the warehouse clubs can help. From cruises to escorted tours, BJ’s, Costco and Sam’s Club members can save on vacations by booking through their travel services. They often come with more perks than just a discounted rate. Take BJ’s travel packages, for example. With some of the trips you get double bonus points, up to a $500 BJ’s gift card and free upgrades.
Taxes and death are life’s two certainties, and if you want to keep costs down for the latter, consider purchasing a coffin from BJ’s, Costco or Sam’s Club, although the choices are limited. Sam’s Club sells two: the Titan Casket Heritage Steel Funeral Casket for $1,149 and the Titan Casket Opus XL Oversize Funeral Casket for $1,399. Costco sells a variety of coffins for $1,150.
