How to Manage the Top Sites Feature in Safari

Add, delete, and organize your top sites in Safari

• Select Bookmarks > Show Top Sites .
• Add page: Drag webpage URL to the Top Sites screen, or the Top Sites icon.
• Delete page: Hover cursor over website thumbnail, then select X in the menu that appears.

This article explains how to use the Top Sites feature in Safari 7 through Safari 14—except where noted. So rather than typing a URL or selecting a bookmark from the Bookmarks menu or Bookmarks bar, you can navigate via thumbnail.

Access and Edit Top Sites

The Top Sites feature automatically keeps track of how often you visit websites and displays the ones you visit most. Still, you're not stuck with the results. It's easy to add, delete, and manage your Top Sites.

To access Top Sites, select Bookmarks > Show Top Sites from the menu bar. (In Safari 7 through Safari 12, select the grid icon at the left side of the Bookmarks bar.)

If you don't see Show Top Sites , select Safari > Preferences > General . Next to New windows open with , select Top Sites .

To edit your Top Sites, hover the cursor over the Top Sites thumbnails to reveal icons that let you delete a page or pin it to its current location, which prevents the thumbnail from moving around on the page.

Rearrange thumbnails by clicking and dragging a thumbnail to a new location on the Top Sites page. Select the X icon to delete the page from the Top Sites.

Change the Thumbnail Size

There are three options for the size of the thumbnails in Top Sites and two ways to make the changes. Beginning with Safari 7, Apple moved the thumbnail size and number of sites per page to the Safari preferences.

Select Preferences from the Safari menu.

Choose the General tab.

Select the Top Sites shows drop-down menu and select 6 , 12 , or 24 sites.

Add a Page to Top Sites

To add a page to Top Sites, open the web page and either drag its URL to the open Top Sites screen or to the Top Sites icon at the upper-left corner of the current screen.

You can also add a page to Top Sites by dragging a link from a web page, an email message, or another document to the Top Sites icon.

Delete a Page From Top Sites

To permanently delete a page from Top Sites, hover the cursor over the page you want to delete and select the X that appears in the upper-left corner of the page's thumbnail.

Pin a Page in Top Sites

To pin a page in Top Sites so that another page cannot replace it, hover over the thumbnail image and click the pushpin icon that appears in the upper-left corner. The icon changes color from black-and-white to blue-and-white to indicate it is pinned. To unpin a page, select the pushpin again. The icon changes from blue-and-white to black-and-white when it is unpinned.

Reload Your Top Sites

Losing your internet connection even briefly can cause a minor glitch in the Top Sites feature. However, it's easy to fix by reloading the Top Sites page. Open the Top Sites page in Safari and use the keyboard shortcut Command + R to reload the page.

Other Top Sites Options

You can also set it so that new tabs open your Top Sites page. If you want to open all new Safari windows in Top Sites, follow these steps:

Select the Safari menu, then select Preferences .

In the Safari Preferences window, select the General tab.

From the New windows open with drop-down menu, select Top Sites .

If you want new tabs to open in Top Sites, select the New tabs open with drop-down menu, then choose Top Sites .

How to hide or show website icons in Safari Favorites Bar

Learn how to remove or display the website icons of your favorite bookmarks in Safari’s top Favorites Bar on your iPad and Mac running iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma.

Show top Favorites Bar in Safari

Safari on Mac and iPad (not iPhone because of the smaller screen area) lets you show a thin strip of your favorite bookmarks at the top of the browser, just below the URL address bar.

This row of favorite websites is visible at all times, whether you’re on the Safari Start Page or a web page. Plus, it appears in both the Separate and Compact tabs settings.

The Favorites Bar takes a little extra screen area but makes it easy to access your favorite bookmarks without the need to go to the Start Page or open the bookmarks section.

If you have not already enabled this, you can do it by following these steps.

• Open Safari .
• From the top menu bar, click  View  and choose  Show Favorites Bar .
• Alternatively, you can press  Shift + Command + B  keys together to show (or hide) the Favorites Bar.

• Open the  Settings   app .
• Scroll down and tap  Safari .
• Turn on  Show Favorites Bar .

How to Enable Favicons in Safari on iPhone, iPad, or Mac

On Safari in iOS 12 to iOS 14, users have access to the Favourite icon, known as Favicon. It is a tiny visual webpage indicator on the title bar and tab bar. These little icons let you see the websites open in your browser at once. This can eventually be of great help to avoid juggling multiple tabs and trying to keep things organized. So, let’s take a look at how to  enable favicons in Safari on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

How to Turn ON Favicons in Safari on iPhone and iPad

• Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
• Scroll down, tap on ‘Safari’

• Open Safari browser on your Mac, if you haven’t yet. Locate and tap the Safari tab at the top left corner next to the Apple icon.

Close the pop-up window and continue using your browser. The feature gets active instantly.

It looks like Favicons is no longer available in Safari on iOS 15. It’s still available in Safari on Mac though.

How to hide frequently visited sites and top sites in safari.

The Safari web browser likes showing the websites you frequently visit when you open it. On an iPhone or iPad, it shows "frequently visited sites." On a Mac, it shows your "top sites." You can disable this to prevent your browser from advertising the websites you frequently visit.

This feature is customizable. You're free to remove any websites you don't want appearing here and continue using it. On iOS, you can disable it entirely. On a Mac, you can tweak it to prevent your personal information from appearing.

As of iOS 9, it's now possible to disable the "Frequently Visited Sites" feature, preventing any frequently visited sites from appearing on the new tab page in Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Only icons for your favorites will appear on Safari's new tab page.

To do this, open the Settings app, select the "Safari" category, and disable the "Frequently Visited Sites" option under the General options.

To instead just remove one or more frequently visited websites while leaving the feature enabled, open Safari's new tab page and look at the icons for your frequently visited sites. Long-press an icon and tap Delete to remove it. Safari won't show it on this page anymore, no matter how much you visit it.

The Safari web browser on Mac OS X has a similar feature. It will open to a "Top Sites" view with thumbnail previews of the websites you frequently visit when you launch Safari or open a new tab.

There's no actual way to completely hide the top sites from the interface on a Mac as there is on iOS. However, you can prevent them from appearing unless someone seeks them out, or tweak your top sites so that a specific list of websites always appears there.

The simplest option is simply clicking the star icon at the top-right of the favorites page screen. Safari will always open showing your favorite websites, and won't show top sites unless someone clicks that option. The favorites page will always contain an icon that takes you to the top sites. If you're just worried about someone seeing your top sites from over your shoulder, this will work fine.

You could also click the Safari menu and select Preferences. For "New windows open with" and "New tabs open with", select an option other than favorites -- for example, your home page or a blank page. Someone will have to click History > Show top sites to access the favorites page, and then click the top sites icon on the favorites page to access them.

Safari's top sites page is always a 4x3 grid of 12 thumbnails. You can add websites to it, remove websites from it, and lock websites in place. Lock twelve thumbnails in place and no other websites will automatically appear here.

To manually add a website to your top sites list, visit it, click the share button on Safari's toolbar, select "Add bookmarks," and tell Safari to add the page to "Top sites."

You can then visit the top sites view. Hover your mouse cursor over a top site and click the pin icon to lock the top site in place. If a website you don't want to see appears there, click the x button instead to remove it from the page.

By removing top sites you don't want to see, adding ones you do want to see, and then locking every single one in place, you can customize your list of top sites and prevent other websites from appearing here. Someone would have to start removing top sites to see other ones -- and, if that's a problem you're worried about, you should just be clearing your Safari browser history.

Many web browsers have features like this one. Ultimately, if you're worried about people seeing the websites you're visiting, you should be clearing your web browser's history and private data regularly. But you may just want to hide those sites a little bit, preventing people from seeing the websites you visit every time you open a new tab in your browser or just getting those frequently visited sites out of your way so you can focus on your favorite websites -- the websites you actually want to see every time you open your browser's new tab page.

Use Safari extensions on your Mac

Safari extensions enhance and customize the browsing experience on your Mac. Here's how to install them, uninstall them, or share them across devices.

Safari extensions add functionality to Safari, so you can explore the web the way you want. Extensions can show helpful information about a webpage, display news headlines, help you use your favorite services, change the appearance of webpages, and much more. Extensions are a great way to personalize your browsing experience.

Install extensions

Turn on extensions, turn off extensions, uninstall extensions, share extensions across devices.

Use the App Store to conveniently download and install Safari extensions. All extensions in the App Store are reviewed, signed, and hosted by Apple for your security, and they're automatically kept up to date.

Start by installing the latest macOS updates to make sure that Safari is up to date. You need Safari 12 or later to get Safari extensions from the App Store.

Open Safari and choose Safari > Safari Extensions from the menu bar.

The App Store opens to the Safari Extensions page. To download and install an extension, click Get or click the price. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.

Click Install.

After the extension is installed, click Open and follow the onscreen instructions provided by the extension.

After installing an extension, follow these steps to turn it on.

Choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences).

Click Extensions.

Select the checkbox next to the extension's name. Learn what to do if you can't turn on extensions .

If you're browsing privately, or using a profile or web app

When browsing in a private window in macOS Sonoma or later, all extensions that require website access are turned off by default. To use an extension when browsing privately:

Choose Safari > Settings.

Select the extension in the sidebar, then select “Allow in Private Browsing” on the right.

Whether or not you're browsing privately, you can also restrict the extension's access to certain websites. Click the Edit Websites button to view the extension in Websites settings. From there you can allow access, deny access, or require that websites ask you for access.

When using Safari profiles , extensions for the default profile are managed in the main Extensions tab of Safari settings. Extensions for other profiles are managed in the Profiles tab, which has its own Extensions tab for each profile. By default, extensions are turned off for each new profile.

Choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences), then click Extensions.

To turn off an extension, deselect its checkbox.

If you can't determine what an extension does, or you don't expect to use it again, you should uninstall it.

To uninstall an extension, select the extension and click the Uninstall button.

Starting with macOS Ventura, iOS 16, and iPadOS 16, you can share extensions across your Mac, iPhone, and iPad:

On your Mac, open Safari and choose Safari > Settings, then click Extensions. Select “Share across devices” at the bottom of the window.

On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Safari > Extensions, then turn on Share Across Devices.

To uninstall an extension from all devices, you must uninstall it on each device.

Safari no longer supports most web plug-ins. To load webpages more quickly, save energy, and strengthen security, Safari is optimized for content that uses the HTML5 web standard, which doesn't require a plug-in. To enhance and customize your browsing experience, use Safari extensions instead of web plug-ins.

How to Customize Your Favorite Sites in Safari for iOS

Your favorite websites appear at the top under Favorites, and you can customize these bookmarks right from the start page. Tap and hold a folder or an individual site's favicon to reveal the start page's preview screen and contextual menu, where you'll find options to Edit or Delete the item.

Note that if you move a site out of your starred Favorites folder, it becomes a regular bookmark and will no longer appear in Safari's start page.

The only other thing to keep in mind is that if you have Safari turned on in your iCloud settings, any changes you make will be synced to any other Apple devices linked to the same Apple ID .

How to manage Safari’s Top Sites

One of Safari 5’s more useful features is Top Sites, which displays snapshots of the sites you visit most often on a showy, pseudo-three-dimensional wall worthy of The Architect .

But what if you want to prevent some sites from appearing in Top Sites, add sites that you rarely visit but still enjoy, or place some sites in specific slots so they’re easy to find? Fortunately, we have answers, and we won’t even make you decide between helping a loved one or saving humanity to learn them.

To make sure we’re all on the same page, Top Sites appears by default every time you start Safari. You can also open it manually from the small, tic-tac-toe-like icon in the left of Safari’s bookmarks bar.

Step 1: Add a site to Top Sites

The main way to add a site to Safari’s Top Sites is from the Bookmarks -> Add Bookmark menu. In the sheet that appears, click the drop-down bookmarks menu, scroll to the top to pick Top Sites as your link’s destination, and click OK. Your new link will take its place in the top-left slot of your Top Sites grid.

Of course, the other way to add links to Top Sites is to just use Safari. Apple designed Top Sites to keep track of the sites you browse and continually update with the ones you visit most.

Step 2: Manage your Top Sites

If you decide you want to keep a site handy in Top Sites regardless of how often you visit it, or you just want some sites to stay in specific slots in Top Sites, you can hit the Edit button in the lower left. Some new controls will appear over each Website snapshot in Top Sites: a close button and a push pin.

If you want a site to always remain available in Top Sites, click its corresponding push pin or click and drag its snapshot to a preferred slot. The pushpin will glow blue, signifying that the site will forever occupy that place until you decide otherwise, regardless of whether your browsing habits change down the road.

While in this editing mode, you may also want to give the Small, Medium, and Large buttons a try on the lower right side. By default, Top Sites uses a four-by-three grid (the Medium option), giving you 12 total slots for keeping your favorite and frequently-visited sites just a click away. If that view is too intimidating, or you simply don’t visit that many sites in Safari, the Large view slims down to six slots but maximizes the space, giving you a much larger snapshot of each site. The Small view (my personal favorite) gives you a six-by-four grid; a 24-slot dashboard of your personal slice of the Web.

Step 3: Delete a Top Site

For sites that you prefer to not see in Top Sites, click the close button to vote it off the proverbial island. The snapshot will disappear and Safari will make room to add your next most-visited site.

Be careful, though. If you banish a site this way from Top Sites, it will not return unless you say otherwise by deliberately visiting it and adding it to Top Sites with the manual bookmark process described above.

Modern versions of Safari for Mac include favicon (favorite icon) support, offering a visual indicator of webpages in the titlebar and tab bar of the Safari browser. Nearly every other web browser on the Mac (and other operating systems) has had favicon support for quite some time, but this is a relatively new addition to Safari and to show the website icons in Safari for Mac you must first enable favicon support in preferences as the feature is not enabled by default.

For some quick background, most websites have favicons that help to differentiate a website URL when a site is active in a browser, bookmarked, or favorited. The small favicon is next to the webpages name when shown in a tab or window of a web browser.

How to Enable Website Icons / favicons in Safari for Mac

• Open the Safari app on the Mac if you haven’t done so already
• Pull down the Safari menu and choose “Preferences”
• Choose “Tabs”
• Toggle the switch for “Show website icons in tabs” so that it’s checked and enabled

• Close out of Safari preferences

The website icons are immediately visible in any tabbed window in Safari or bookmark bar of Safari. Just look at the top of the tabs section of a Safari browser window to see the favicons.

Of course if you decide you don’t like favicons in Safari, you can hide them again just as easily as you enabled them.

How to Hide / Disable Website Icons / favicons in Safari for Mac

• Open the Safari app on the Mac
• Pull down the Safari menu and select “Preferences”
• Select “Tabs”
• Toggle the switch for “Show website icons in tabs” so that it is not checked, thereby disabling favicons in Safari

• Close out of Safari preferences and use the browser as usual

Hiding Favicons is the default setting in Safari, so this is just returning to that.

If you don’t find this feature available in your version of Safari it’s likely because it does not support favicons, as only modern releases of Safari support the display of website favorite icons. You can either update Safari to the newest version, or you can also download Safari Technology Preview which has the latest beta features available to it, including favicon support and other features that may appear in future releases (the tech preview is sort of like a public beta of Safari).

For anyone wondering, this works the same on the Safari final versions, as well as Safari Technology Preview and Safari Developer Preview builds as well.

This obviously pertains to the Mac, but you can enable Safari website icons (favicons) support in Safari for iPhone and iPad too if desired.

I didn’t realize I had to enable this in Preferences, thank you. I have now done so but have an additional question/comment: all the website favicons are showing up in grey & white; none are in color. Is there another setting I need to change?

Nope. Still won’t use it. I want FavIcons on the mofo Favorite Bar, where they’re actually most useful, so i don’t have to keep text names and waste space. Unbelievable those dumb f**ks still won’t at least give us the god-damn choice like every other mofo web browser on earth

How to turn on and edit the Favorites bar in Safari

A few weeks ago, I received a panicked call from my sister. "My Favorites are gone! I don't know where they went and I don't know how to get them back." The favorites in question weren't Instagram likes or Twitter stars — no, her new work Mac had come with its Bookmarks favorites bar disabled.

It's not uncommon to see this in new OS X Yosemite Macs; Safari's default view sports as few buttons and switches as possible, so as to immerse yourself in the Web browsing experience. But it's an easy fix to reenable the Favorites bar and even edit it.

How to turn on and edit the Bookmarks bar in Safari

Turning the Bookmarks or Favorites bar on is a relatively simple process.

• Open Safari .
• Select the View menu
• Find Show Favorites Bar

(If you like keyboard shortcuts, you can also use Command-Shift-B to show or hide the bar.)

How to add new sites to your Favorites bar in Safari

Once your Favorites bar is visible, there several ways to add new sites and folders to it.

The easiest way to add a website is to drag its icon from the status bar to the Favorites bar; you'll see a green plus button to let you know it's safe to drop it onto the bar.

You can also add or edit favorites by doing the following:

• Click on the Sidebar icon in the upper left corner of Safari.
• Select the bookmarks icon .
• Open the Favorites section by clicking on the arrow.
• Click Edit .

Inside the Bookmarks editing screen, you can add folders to group bookmarks together, or simply drag bookmarks from their current location into the Favorites toolbar.

How to quickly edit your Favorites bar in Safari

If you'd prefer not to launch the full Favorites editor, you can tweak your favorites in a few different ways.

Rename them or their website: Want a different name for your new bookmark or need to update the address? Control-click (or right click) on a bookmark in the Favorites bar and select Rename Bookmark or Edit Address .

Delete: Don't want a bookmark on your Favorites bar anymore? Just drag it off the toolbar and it'll disappear in a cloud of pixel smoke.

Copy for later: Need to share an address with someone? Control-click on a bookmark and select Copy to save it to your clipboard.

Safari 14.0. Missing Top Sites!

I absolutely hate that there is no longer Top Sites for the new Safari. I will not be updated on MacBook Air for this reason. It is stupid to have Favorites on the Home Screen when Favorites is also listed on the top bar. Come on Apple! Why did you do this?

Come on Apple, at least give us the Option to use Top Sites. You could have at least informed us you were deleting the Top Sites option prior to the release of the update. I have NO USE for the crap you put on Start Page. The icon is still in the Favorites Bar but it only goes to this New Crappier Start Page. Like Tim0 said above, I had 8 or 9 links that I hadn't book marked and now no way to get them back as they appear to be lost. Give me back Safari 13.0!!!!!!

Well as I mentioned earlier I think it was a very bad idea and will either try to find a way to roll back to a previous version......or as I am doing now, just use Google chrome and bye bye Safari “Come on Apple let people at least have an option”

I did some research last night and the Top Sites file is still there if anyone needs their links: ~/Library/Safari/TopSites.plist It may look a bit confusing at first (my file starts with lots of "banned URLs", but the links that you need are located towards the end of the file. They are marked with TopSiteIsPinned key. Still hopeful they will restore TopSites in future updates. Is there any way to send Apple feedback for the new versions?

I am missing all of the sites that I previously stored as "Top Sites". Apple screwed the pooch yet again.

I had my Top sites bookmarked so I am still able to access them, but this Frequently Visited Sites does not work the same and I do not think I can arrange the icons like I want. It also throws stuff in there that I do not want. I hope Apple returns the Top Sites as well.  

I guess I lucked out. I still had the same stuff that was in Top Sites show up under Frequently Visited. The view is a bit cluttered but oh well. I never did get access to the 'siri suggested' sites that was supposed to be a hallmark feature in Catalina...It just never worked.

I'm aggravated about Top Sites too, but I've found an okay — not great — solution. If you open Safari preferences and click on the General tab, you'll see "Favorite shows." It allows you to create a folder where you manually add your Top Site URLs. Then choose that new folder for "Favorite shows" and at least you'll have the icons there. It pales in comparison to Top Sites, but it's way better than nothing, at least for me. (I've attached a screenshot.)

Man I'm glad I read this - I live and die by Safari, I'm planning on sticking with Catalina for a while, and jumped on the forum to check out some of the feedback, I'll stick with 13 for now.

I get mad every time I need to use Safari. I am definitely going to change browsers. Worst update ever. I wasn't even given a choice. It updated on its own.

So why did they do this and who do you complain to? Woke up this morning with a completely different computer. I'm very unhappy. I'm not technologically savvy and this is ridiculous for me. I have favorites of things I'd like to get back to - not that any of those were frequently used. This is shameful.

How to Manage the Top Sites Feature in Safari

The top websites function in safari shows thumbnail pix of the websites you visit most often. Instead of kind in a url, or pick a bookmark from the bookmarks menu or the bookmarks bar, you may just click on on one of the thumbnails to quickly go to a website.

There are three options for the size of the thumbnails in pinnacle websites, and two ways to make the changes, depending at the version of safari you are using.

In safari five or 6, use the edit button within the backside left corner of the pinnacle web sites page. You may then pick from small, medium, or massive thumbnails; the default size is medium. The dimensions of the thumbnails determines what number of websites will in shape on a page (6, 12, or 24). To change the dimensions of the thumbnails, click the small, medium, or large button in the lower right nook of the top web sites page.

Later variations moved the thumbnail length/number of web sites according to web page to safari choices.

Pick out options from the safari menu. Click on the general tab. Use the drop-down menu next to the item labeled top web sites shows: and pick out 6, 12, or 24 sites.

Upload a page to pinnacle web sites

To add a web page to top sites, open a new browser window (click the file menu and select new window). When the target website online masses, click on and drag its favicon (the small icon to the left of the URL in the deal with bar) to the top websites web page.

You may additionally upload a web page to pinnacle sites by dragging a link from a web page, an e-mail message, or some other document to the top websites web page. (notice: you should be in edit mode in safari five or 6 to feature pages to the pinnacle sites.)

Delete a web page from pinnacle web sites

To completely delete a page from top sites, click the close icon (the little “x”) in the pinnacle left corner of the web page’s thumbnail.

Pin a page in pinnacle websites

To pin a page in top web sites, so that it can’t get replaced by any other page, click the pushpin icon in the top left corner of the page’s thumbnail. The icon will exchange from black-and-white to blue-and-white. To unpin a page, click on the pushpin icon; the icon will exchange from blue-and-white back to black-and-white.

Rearrange pages in top sites

To rearrange the order of the pages in pinnacle web sites, click the thumbnail for a web page and drag it to its goal area.

Reload your top websites

Dropping your net connection, even for a brief time frame, can cause a minor glitch in the pinnacle web sites function, however it’s smooth to restore with the aid of honestly reloading top sites.

Top sites and the bookmarks bar

The pinnacle web sites icon isn’t a permanent resident of the bookmarks bar. How to Show and Hide Website Favicons in Safari’s Favorites Bar

In Safari 17 and macOS Sonoma, Apple has introduced support for displaying favicons in the Favorites bar. Keep reading to learn why favicons can be useful, and how you can disable them if they aren’t for you.

Favicons can usually be found next to anything in a browser’s interface that identifies a website. This can include bookmarks, tabs, history results, and search bars.

How to Add, View, and Manage Favorites in Safari on a Mac

If you visit the same sites all the time, follow these tips to set up Favorites in Safari on your Mac.

While most of us know how to add websites to the Bookmarks folder in Safari, it's pretty easy to add too many, forcing you to scan through the list before you find the site you want to visit. Adding a few sites to Safari's Favorites list allows for faster access. Here's everything you need to know about how to use Favorites in Safari.

How to Add a Favorite in Safari

If visiting certain sites has become part of your regular browsing routine, you should consider adding them to your Favorites in Safari. Doing so lets you access the site with just a click. Here's how to favorite a website on your Mac's Safari browser:

Click the Add (+) Button

Say you're wondering how to add Google to Favorites in Safari. All you need to do is launch Safari, type google.com into the address bar, and once the page loads up, hover your cursor over the address bar until the Add (+) button appears. Then, long-click on it and choose Favorites from the dropdown.

Click the Share Button

You can also simply click the Share button at the top-right corner and choose Add Bookmark from the dropdown. Then, when you get a pop-up make sure Favorites is selected as the bookmarks folder. You can also rename the website and add a description.

Drag and Drop to the Favorites Bar

Let's say again that you want to make Google a favorite on Mac. Another easy way to do so is by directly dragging it to your Favorites Bar. To do this, be sure that the Favorites Bar appears in Safari by clicking View > Show Favorites Bar from the macOS menu bar .

Now, drag the URL from the address bar and drop it into the Favorites Bar right below. You'll see a green Add (+) button when you do this.

Visit the desired website in Safari and open Safari's customizable Start Page by opening a new tab. Now, drag the website URL you want to favorite and hover it over the Start Page tab until it opens. Then, drop it under the Favorites section of the Start Page.

How to Favorite Several Tabs at Once

You can also bookmark several Safari tabs at once . If all your favorite sites are opened in Safari, go to the menu bar, click Bookmarks > Add Bookmarks for [X] Open Tabs (X indicates the number of open tabs).

Type in a name for the group and select Favorites. This saves the tab as a Favorites folder. Click it to open the tabs simultaneously.

Where to Find Your Safari Favorites on a Mac

There are many places within Safari where you can find the websites you've added to your Favorites.

In the Sidebar

Click the Sidebar icon at the top-left corner of the Safari window if it doesn't appear already. Then, click Bookmarks > Favorites from the sidebar to see all the sites you've added there.

In the Favorites Bar

You can also immediately find your Favorites in the Favorites bar. It appears right below the address bar, but if you can't see it, click View > Show Favorites Bar from the menu bar.

In the Smart Search Field

You can also see your Favorites when you click the Smart Search Field or address bar. However, note that you won't see it in a new tab or window. This method is great for accessing your Favorites when you're already on another webpage.

On the Start Page

To make it easier for you to access sites you often visit, Safari shows your Favorite whenever you launch the Start Page. If you can't see it, open a new tab to see the Start Page . Click the Options button in the bottom-right corner of the window, then check the Favorites option.

In New Windows

You can also set up your Favorites so that they automatically load on every new window you open. To do this, head to Safari > Settings . Click the General tab. For the dropdown next to New windows open with , choose Tabs for Favorites .

How to Manage Your Safari Favorites

Since the Favorites feature is supposed to make it easier for you to access your favorite sites, you can also organize your Favorites to make navigating through them much easier. Here's how to manage your Favorites:

• Arranging Favorites: Whether you're on the Start Page, Favorites bar, or Sidebar, just drag and drop Favorites to your preferred placement.
• Renaming Favorites: Control-click or two-finger tap a website, then select Rename . Alternatively, force-click or click-and-hold a website until it's highlighted to rename it.
• Remove Favorites: Just Control-click or two-finger tap a website and choose Delete from the context menu. Alternatively, select the website you want to remove, then drag it out of the Safari window. Ensure that you don't see any plus (+) icon appear, as this may just move the webpage somewhere else.
• Show a Different Bookmarks Folder: Technically, Favorites is just a different kind of Bookmarks folder. If you want Safari to show another folder, go to Safari > Settings , go to the General tab, then select another folder for the Favorites shows option.

Use Favorites to Get Around Safari Easily

Favorites in Safari is a ubiquitous feature, and you have several ways to access and manage this bookmarks folder. Make sure you make the most of it by customizing your Favorites folder to ensure easy and fast access to your most visited websites.
