Snugpak Insulated Jungle Travel Blanket

A lightweight quilt for around 50deg F. One side is waterproof-breathable and the other is a nice taffeta fabric that is quite soft and comfortable. It is about the same price as a MilSpec poncho liner (woobie) but pretty much better in every way. Lighter, more compressible, water resistant, just as warm.

I have used my Jungle Blanket and its close cousin the Snugpak Poncho Liner countless times. I use both far more often than I do actual sleeping bags anymore. Both are really versatile and far superior to the MilSpec poncho liner or in my opinion a warm weather sleeping bag. 

The outer shell is a soft but waterproof breathable nylon ripstop which is great. Besides being able to shed a light rain it means you can boost your temp by throwing a space blanket over top. This combo reflects your body heat back and traps air but also collects the water your body respirates during the night. You can do this with any blanket or sleeping bag but without the waterproof outer layer you end up soaked.

You can also add the blanket to boost the warmth of a sleeping bag. This works even better if you have two people. Just throw the Jungle blanket over both people and their sleeping bags and you end up sharing warmth between you. Works great as a quilt in a hammock as well.

Snugpak also makes a poncho liner as well. It is essentially the same product but it has a hood and kinda sleeves so you can wear it like a poncho. I especially love this as it is just as warm, only slightly heavier, and can replace me packing a jacket. It's also real nice on cold mornings to just throw the blanket you are already under over your head and be wearing a jacket rather than getting out and exposed to put on a cold jacket from your backpack.

I bought this as a slightly warmer alternative to the standard military poncho liner "wooble" I usually carry for summer hikes. This is a little smaller, but is also about 8 ounces lighter than the poncho liner in a stuff sack.

First test was on a cold, dreary night in my living room (smirk). I pulled the Snugpak out of its storage bag, unrolled it, and pulled it over me while watching TV. I immediately noticed it was warm—noticeably warmer than a poncho liner I usually keep handy.

Second test, outside by the fire pit on a chilly, misty 34º night. This blanket is a lot more breeze resistant than any poncho liner I've ever owned.

Third test—stuffing it. Some people might always roll their sleeping bag, down coat, jungle blanket, camp pillow etc. I usually just stuff my stuff. The Jungle Blanket stuffs perfectly into its stuff sack without worrying about any OCD roll up method. I think it has replaced my wooble!

Of note: The stuff sack uses the compression straps across the drawstring opening of the bag. While this design is likely meant to keep weight low, it's a bit cumbersome and clumsy. If the bag had a removable top cap (like other brands), it would allow for more vertical compression. Size matters!

I had read several reviews before purchasing and some complained about the stitching and batting. Mine is double stitched around the edges (new feature?) and doesn't seem to have a single flaw in construction. This will have to be a test of time, but so far, not a single issue.

I did see that Snugpak at one time may have offered an XL version. Again—Size matters! Their product distribution in the U.S. is limited, and I could find no further details other than the listing. A few phone calls to "suggested retailers" was less than successful, but I would love to have that little extra length...if I can find one!

This blanket is excellent for either an impromptu overnighter on the couch at an in-laws, as an enhancement to your existing sleep system on a particularly cool night, or just for snuggling with a good book on a winter's evening. As an added bonus, it also has anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties. Rated for temperatures down to around 40 degrees.

I bought this as an enhancement to my minimalist "cool weather" sleep system for those particularly cool nights... and it works. It has since grown to be my around the house go-to comfort/blanket for those infrequent cold fall nights. I now find it indispensable as I get older as a chill settles in more often than not, and this thing really works.

My only complaint is that as a larger person, and given how light the product is, it is sometimes difficult to stay under its 76"x64" size as I am an "active" sleeper. However, I can definitely recommend this product to any and everyone. Its uses are only limited by the scope of your imagination, and how often you get cold.

Get one...or two. You won't be sorry.

I have multiple 100% wool blankets, several Coleman stadium blankets, and a myriad of various fabric "throws"...and this beats them all, in every circumstance, hands down.

Awesome alternative to a sleeping bag! Weighs nothing, compresses small.

We started hammock camping this season and I am usually a hot sleeper anyway, so I have been looking for something not quite as heavy as my Cat's Meow  bag and at the same time, something warm and taking up less space than the sleeping bag in my pack.

I was reading reviews on the Sea to Summit liners on this site and someone mentioned this Jungle Blanket in their review.

I purchased it on Amazon and was able to take it with me on a long hike in March 2016.

I LOVE IT! Our nights were down to about 45 degrees and I was perfectly warm with just this and my base layer of clothing (and an under quilt). I was not cold whatsoever. I personally sleep hot so I feel that I would even be warm in this in a bit colder temperature possibly down to 40 degrees or so.

It comes with an nice compression bag and I was able to get this down to about a 5x5 size to fit in my pack.

It is water resistant (not waterproof) and that was put to the test when we encountered a night of thunderstorms while in the hammocks. One of the tarps was holding water and the wind lifted it, pouring cold water into my hammock and onto this blanket. It resisted fine (as did my hammock) and after shaking it off I was nice and dry again.

Highly recommended as a sleeping bag alternative and even a couch throw.

It did exactly what I wanted it to. It provided a small package and a nice, big, perfect temp and performance item. It can be kept in the car for a blanket to lie on or watch the stars or used sitting around on those chilly nights around the campfire or even by the fireplace. The uses are endless.

I had seen the previous post and I already am a fan of Snugpak and own the jungle bag. Well, I found one for $24.50 and to be honest just needed a temporary blanket for my bed, so why not?

It was instant love! It's so comfortable and I knew I had to get it up to the cabin and as always we all arranged to go up during or while still happening a meteor shower. I used this around the campfires at night or let some others use it a blanket most every night and after just following the washing instructions it's back on my bed.

For $24.50 it's hard to go wrong, and with all its potential uses it's hard not to buy! I'm sure with this blanket and my Jungle bag I've extended my camping season this year, so it's definitely proven its worth to me.

Looking for a super compact alternative to a sleeping bag?  I’m here to share with you my Snugpak Jungle Blanket review.  I bought mine back in early 2016 and have used it on most every overnight camping trip I have had since then.  But I’ve also used it on family vacations when we have rented cabins or houseboats we have stayed in.

It’s a great blanket.  Compresses into a small sack, easy to pack, weighs very little, and big enough to cover you up.  It will also keep you comfortable in temps down to the mid 40s (Fahrenheit).  I’ve tested it, and it works.

Snugpak has been around since the 1970s.  They not only manufacturer this blanket, they also manufacture tents, clothing, sleeping bags, and a variety of other gear for the military and outdoor enthusiasts.

All of their products are considered top quality and have excellent reviews wherever you find their items.  I have a couple other pieces of kit they make that I am also highly impressed with, such as a hammock under quilt.

Here are the main details of the Snugpak Jungle Blanket:

What I like About My Snugpak Jungle Blanket

There are many things I like about this blanket.  It is an important part of my overnight outdoor kit since I bought out back in spring 2016.

First and foremost I like the compact size when I compress it down to carry in my backpack.  At only around 6″ x 6″ and 25 ounces, it travels well and takes up little space inside my Medium Alice Pack .

I’ve used it on a few cold nights at my cabin and camping when temps hit the upper 40s.  It’s rated down to 45 degrees, and it did keep me nice and comfortably warm.  I’ve also used it as a cover on warmer nights to great affect.  I didn’t wrap up in it on those ‘warmer’ uses, and it was comfortable then as well.

Another thing I like about this item is that it is water repellent.  It also dries out fast if it does get wet, just hang it out in the sun and breeze.  It also blocks the wind excellent as well (windproof).

What I Don’t Like About My Snugpak Jungle Blanket

There is only one issue I have with the Snugpak Jungle Blanket, and it’s actually pretty minor.  I’m six foot one inches tall (73 inches), the blanket is 76″ x 64″.

It would have been nice for me if the blanket was perhaps 79″ to 81″ tall.  But it’s really not an issue, and here is why: When it’s cold outside I wrap and curl up in it to conserve body heat (like in the picture further above), and I stay plenty warm and cozy.  It’s plenty big enough for me when I curl up…so it’s not really an issue.  When its warm outside I just use it as a cover and don’t worry about covering my head.  If I get warm I just uncover a little.

While it would be nice if it was a handful of inches taller, it really is not an issue or concern for me when I use it.

Snugpak Jungle Blanket Review – In Conclusion

I’ve been meaning to write a review on my Snugpak Jungle Blanket since I started this website, but have never gotten around to it until now.

The Jungle Blanket is lightweight and much less bulky than most alternatives for your outdoor sleeping needs.  It’s warm, and a great piece of three season kit.  I wouldn’t count on it to keep you warm under 36 degrees… it could help insulate, but for really cold temps you would want something else or in addition to it.

For Spring, Summer, Fall months… Snugpak Jungle Blanke t for the win!

I have put mine through some rugged use at times, and it has help up perfectly well.

You mentioned that a larger size Jungle Blanket would be nice. Snugpak is now offering the Jungle Blanket XL. This model is the same great quality at a larger size. 72×90 inches, 6×10 in the stuff sack, weight 32 oz.

It will be interesting to see how many companies pull back from doing business in China after the Covid 19 Pandemic. But then again, the bottom line of what money can be made seems to rule the world… If companies do pull out I wonder how long before they are back in China.

Man this really does look amazing.  I was simply researching sleeping bags as i need an new one and Bam!  Came across something i never knew existed.

When it comes to the average life span how does the snugpack stand up to traditional sleeping bags?

Thanks for reading!  I’ve had mine now for a couple years and use it on every camping trip I go on or just when going up to my cabin for the weekend.  It has held up incredibly well – but it all depends on the person and how they use it.

I have no complaints regarding the durability of my Snugpack Jungle Blanket.  Even the compression bag is held up fantastic.

About the size ,I think the company has other size depending on the length of the customers.

They do also sell an XL version.  I’m six foot one inches tall and currently around 250lbs, and the standard Jungle Blanket suits me perfectly.

This is definitely something that I would use, and the size would be the perfect fit for me.

What I like most about this blanket is that it packs up so small. There are several options of blankets and sleeping bags that can handle cold weather, but to be able to withstand cold, be wind and water resistant, and pack up that small is incredibly useful. Good price point as well.

What I’m wondering, is what kind of material is it made out of? I can’t sleep good if my blanket slides around too much or makes too much noise. Is the outside slippery?

It is not noisy at all.  One of the things I love about it that is travels so small and is pretty darn warm.  I use it on all my spring, summer, and fall camping trips.  The Jungle Blanket makes a great Holiday Gift.  I was gonna buy another one and give it to my wife among other things this season.

I bought 1 used it a few times and bought another and am considering a project to combine them into a light sleeping bag. As for the durability, I have had no issues. I’ve used them on pads in tents, in my hammock both an under quilt and over blanket (under quilt being I just layed it out in the hammock and was on top of it, while my other one was my blanket). I have also used it in colder weather inside my heavy sleeping bag, which made me toasty warm. I would reccomend picking 1 or 2 of these up. They pack down pretty small as well.

I agree – they are a very nice addition to any camping gear. Sometimes my Snugpak is all I bring along, and it packs down well. Other times like you do, I use it in addition to some other gear for warmth when camping in colder temps.

A windproof and water-resistant blanket can be one of the most used pieces of gear you have. Much like a poncho liner, the added windproof and water resistance allow more versatility. The Jungle Blanket is a warm, lightweight, but less bulky alternative to a traditional blanket made specifically to be compact yet warm and easy to travel with. Snugpak has engineered the Jungle Blanket using Travelsoft Insulation, designed for exceptional performance using ultra lightweight, high loft fibers that work even after being compressed into a small, compact size for lightweight carry. The Jungle Blanket also has an Antibacterial and antimicrobial treatment. A great blanket alternative for travel, emergency use, hammock camping and more.

The Insulated Jungle Travel Blanket by Snugpak is a must when you want that alternative to a sleeping bag or a quilt to keep you warm.

Ultra-lightweight but very warm Micro diamond Paratex fibres along with Travelsoft insulation helps make this blanket perform.

Whether you want to use it for camping, fishing, on your bed or as just a wrap-around this blanket will become your best friend when you start to feel the cold.

Lightweight and compact the travel blanket compresses into a small stuff sack for easy transportation.

The Micro diamond outer helps to keep the blanket water repellent while the Paratex inner is antibacterial and antimicrobial helping to prevent odours and bacterial growth.

Ideal for camping, hiking, travelling, fishing or even just as a throw at home.

Next working day delivery is available for orders placed before 2pm from Monday to Friday. Friday orders will arrive on the following Monday - not Saturday.

Orders placed after 2pm will be dispatched the next working day. On a Friday this means the order will be dispatched on the following Monday for a Tuesday delivery.

Love this travel blanket - we now have 2 and son has his as a summer duvet as he can roll up on it as it’s huge (got the xl). Washes and dries quickly too. Bought as extra for camping but used daily. Fast delivery. All good 👍🏻

Seems to be rather thin but surprisingly effective wrapped around you. Tiny in compression sac so definitely useful bit of kit.

Bought two for Grandkids who will use them for camping with their Dad. Seem to be good quality and pack easily into to carry bags.

The snugpak jungle blanket is a good size and packs so small that I will always have it with me if required

Thanks for the prompt service, arrived quickly. Light weight summer blanket, it's quite thin, yet surprisingly warm, packs small. At 6'4" the XL is just long enough to comfortably fit lying stretched out. I'm very happy with this blanket, well worth the money.

Great store to deal with, superfast dispatch, and it arrived next day......i live in the Highlands and they don't charge extra postage unlike many others who seem to think we are not uk mainland! I like Snugpak, and have several of their items from clothing to tent, I like the brand so maybe a little biased. This blanket is a useful bit of kit. I bought the xl and it is huge (I’m 1.76m) at 2.2m by 1.8m, so you really can wrap it to keep out draughts. I would recommend this size for the little extra cost unless pack size is an issue. It comes with a camo stuffsack which is well constructed, not flimsy. The blanket is similar in make and texture to the US poncho liners, but does feel like it has an additional micro lining. It has no tie loops like poncho liners so it really is just a blanket. The camo is a jungle camo in that it is grass green dominant, not the browns on mtp or multicam. That said, no problem in temperate climates. The camo is only on one side, the other being coyote brown (tan) so it’s reversible if sand or desert is your thing. Warmth? Ive used it in 5 degrees and it was warm enough with just a pair of pants....which surprised me frankly but i was very well insulated from the ground. The large size means you can cover up properly to reduce leaks. Haven't tried it wet yet. I would be happy in three seasons as a vehicle or base camp item, and certainly use it in summer, if you don't like mummy sleeping bags. Overall, i like it. If you just want a bit of a sofa blankie.......works there too. Recommend it, and certainly recommend Military Kit as a retailer.

Snugpak has engineered the Travelpak Blanket using Travelsoft Insulation, designed for exceptional performance using ultra lightweight, high loft fibres that work superbly even after being compressed into a small, compact size for lightweight travelling. It also has an Antibacterial and anti-microbial treatment as well as is windproof and water resistant. The Travelpak Blanket XL will become your best friend when the temperature drops!
