We have already reported to you numerous interior and exterior spy images of the upcoming Tata Safari facelift, but for the first time, we have a completely undisguised look at the dashboard of the updated SUV. And as was expected, it gets a complete design overhaul that looks notably more premium and packs in a lot more tech.
- Safari facelift interior will have very few physical controls
- Infotainment screen likely larger than 10.25-inches
- Will get new two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel
Tata Safari facelift interior spied undisguised
The first impression looking at the image is that it appears a lot richer. Tata has even incorporated a few design elements from the Curvv and Sierra EV interior concepts here into production with the Safari facelift. The four-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel, for instance, is exactly what it was on the Sierra EV concept at Auto Expo 2023. It features a couple of toggle switches and haptic buttons at either end, while the centre portion gets a gloss black finish that’ll likely also have an illuminated Tata logo.
We can also clearly see the gloss black panel for the HVAC controls – it features two bands of haptic buttons with two toggle switches that’ll likely be for temperature and blower controls – again, identical to what Tata had previewed with the Curvv and Sierra EV concepts. The infotainment system on the Safari facelift also seems all-new; it has sharp edges as opposed to the rounded edges on the current 10.25-inch screens on the Safari Red Dark Editions, and as such, appears larger too. Tata could also provide an updated software interface with the new infotainment system.
Additionally, we can notice leatherette padding with contrast double-stitching for the lower portion of the dashboard, while the upper portion gets a full-width, coloured, gloss dashboard insert as opposed to faux wood-like trim on the current model. The central AC vents continue with a trapezoidal shape, but are now inverted and a lot sleeker as well, and there’s also a full-digital instrument cluster replacing the semi-digital unit on the current model.
Tata has also majorly revised the centre console area – the gear lever is smaller, stubbier and appears more sophisticated, while the rotary dial is larger and looks similar to the knurled unit on the Nexon EV Max with a circular digital screen. The grab handles, meanwhile, have been retained as is. There’s also no major change to the door pads either.
Notably, the updated SUV will have very few physical interior controls, but thankfully, key functions like temperature and blower settings, volume controls and drive modes appear to be operated by physical dials and toggle switches. You can expect the interior design to be mirrored in the Harrier facelift, while a lot of these elements will also be shared with the Nexon facelift . The Safari will also be majorly updated on the outside, more about which you can read here .
Tata Safari facelift powertrain options
At launch, the Safari will remain mechanically unchanged. It will carry over the current 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine that’s offered with 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Tata’s new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that's currently under development is only expected to join the line-up much later.
Tata Safari facelift launch timeline
Tata Motors has a slew of SUV launches lined up for the upcoming festive season, and the Safari facelift, along with the updated Harrier, is expected to arrive around September 2023. However, given the step-up in quality and equipment, expect a significant step-up in the pricing as well.

Safari (facelift): Know all changes coming to Tata's flagship SUV
The upcoming Safari (facelift) has been generating excitement as Tata Motors continues to unveil teasers leading up to its eagerly awaited debut in India. The latest teaser showcases the SUV's new dual-tone alloy wheels, which seem larger than before, giving the vehicle a more assertive stance. This represents the first major design update for the rugged four-wheeler since its initial launch in February 2021.
The SUV will feature design enhancements for an upmarket look
The refreshed Tata Safari will feature several design enhancements, such as a new grille, full-width LED DRLs, and automatic LED headlights. Additionally, connected LED taillamps and revamped bumpers will also be included. While the interiors are under wraps, it's expected to resemble the recently teased Harrier (facelift), which will offer numerous high-end features such as a panoramic sunroof, a premium sound system, and a large infotainment panel with connectivity options.
Powertrain options will likely include a new turbo-petrol motor
The Safari (facelift) is anticipated to retain its current 170hp, 2.0-liter diesel engine, with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, there are rumors that Tata may introduce an all-new 1.5-liter T-GDI turbo-petrol engine option, which could likely be offered with a Dual Clutch Automatic (DCA) and 6-speed manual gearbox. The new petrol motor might lure in more potential buyers.
When will the Tata Safari (facelift) launch in India?
The launch of the new Tata Safari is expected to occur in the coming days, with pre-bookings scheduled to begin today. The updated model will carry a premium over its predecessor, which ranges between Rs. 15.85 lakh and Rs. 25.21 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). Once launched, the refreshed model will rival the likes of the MG Hector Plus , Hyundai ALCAZAR , and Mahindra XUV700 .

- The Safari Facelift will be launched in India on October 17, 2023
Twenty-five years is a long time – and if you are an early millennial like me, back in 1998 you were just about in your teenage, and in awe of this sensation called the Tata Safari . Now I am closer to my mid-life crisis and a large, in-your-face SUV is just what the doctor has prescribed, but in the last 25 years, the Safari too has evolved. This child prodigy that we all fell in love with has also come of age. So, I spent a day with the new Safari to figure out how this facelifted version fits the needs of someone looking to buy an SUV, today.

The Safari has moved on from the angry look; that is just the Harrier now. Tata with this facelift has created more distinction between the two SUVs. While the Harrier continues to get horizontal and angular lines, the Safari has more vertical elements. What this has ensured is that instead of looking like a fighter about to enter the ring, the Safari now carries itself with the charm of an army officer!

In terms of design updates, this now gets a full-width LED bar with welcome and goodbye animation. While I am not a big fan of this new trend, to be honest, it does look nice on the Safari. The profile is more or less the same, but the new 19-inch alloys are very cool looking and fill up the wheel wells nicely.
As for the rear, the LED taillights also get a connected pattern, in line with the Safari’s design theme with vertical lines. Having said that, the rear isn’t the most appealing angle to look at the safari; the design makes it look a little smaller than it is.

I like the way the new Safari looks – sophisticated! One of the key reasons for that is also the choice of colours – the Cosmic Gold that I drove is quite unique, I am also keen on looking at the Supernova Copper and Lunar Slate.
At first glance, the inside looks very different from the earlier model. Though the layout is very much the same, to ensure that the SUV feels more premium Tata has played with the styling. The dashboard gets faux wood inlays with a pinstripe pattern, which helps in creating this upmarket image. And I think it looks particularly nice.
Although a bit gimmicky, the new steering, with the illuminated Tata logo, does get its fair share of attention and the infotainment system is a 12.3-inch unit on this top-end Accomplished persona. The instrument cluster is also big, 10.25-inch to be precise, with many customisation options. The Safari also gets a piano black panel for capacitive buttons for AC and other in-car controls, along with a rotary dial with a built-in screen for the terrain modes.
New features on the Safari include a powered tailgate (finally!), a 10-speaker JBL system, 7 airbags, wireless charger dual-zone AC, and rear sunshades. The system also comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with JBL modes that allow you to select between different predefined music settings.
The space in the car remains unchanged. If you intend to use the Safari as a chauffeur-driven car, then the boss mode at the back is handy. Also, the cooled seats at the back are a very valuable feature that not many in the market offer at this point. The third row is for children and has its own storage pockets, air vents and charging points with USB and type-C ports.
Performance
There is no change to the powertrain of the Safari. It runs on the same 2.0-litre diesel motor that makes 168 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The key updates here are the paddle shifters and the switch to electric power steering, which make driving this relatively large SUV easier.
In city mode, it lacks bottom-end, this though can be quickly addressed by the use of paddle shifters or Sport mode. There are a few tweaks to the suspension as well and the ride is marginally better than before, not that it was ever too bad!
While overall I like the way Safari drives, I am not a big fan of the ADAS for everyday usage. It feels intrusive and the cabin is always ringing with one alert or another, since driving sense in our chaotic cities is abysmal.
On the highway, though it is a different story, with the adaptive cruise control, expressway driving becomes a lot easier.
With the ground clearance and the torque, some amount of soft-roading too is easy for the Safari. For those still looking for AWD, I think the wait will continue at least till 2025.
Safety and Variant Details
Six airbags are standard across all five personas of the Safari. The base is the Smart Persona which comes with 17-inch alloys and 6 airbags. The Pure Persona gets a touchscreen infotainment system with 6 speakers, Android Auto, Apple Carplay and a reverse parking camera.
Also Read: Tata Safari Facelift: Variants Explained
The Adventure Persona above it, gets 18-inch wheels, 360-degree view cameras for parking and optional ADAS which is not updated to offer adaptive cruise control. The top-end Fearless and Dark persona gets 19-inch alloys, a bigger display and a music system along with 7 airbags.
For the ones looking at the Safari as an answer to their midlife crisis, they will have to look somewhere else. Without the AWD, the Safari is not a toy. This is a serious car for a mature buyer. For someone looking for a 6- and 7-seater family car with solid features, modern tech like ADAS, decent space and acceptable safety, the Tata Safari makes a very compelling case. Prices for the SUV will be announced on October 17, 2023, and I think a premium of Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh, depending on the variant, would be a reasonable ask.

Tata Safari EV Car Specifications
Tata safari ev summary.
The Tata Safari EV prices are expected to range between Rs. 26.00 Lakh - Rs. 30.00 Lakh, depending on the variant selected.
When will the Tata Safari EV be unveiled?
The Tata Safari EV is expected to be revealed in early of 2025.
What variants will it get?
We expect that when Tata showcases and eventually launches the Safari EV, it will be offered in the XM, XZ, XZ+ lux variants. However, with the launch of the Nexon EV facelift, Tata introduced a new nomenclature for its cars along the lines of Creative, Fearless and Pure. The Safari EV could move to this at the time of launch.
What features will be available in the Tata Safari EV?
We expect the Tata Safari EV to take up the shape of the Harrier EV but with a different face, different alloy wheel design and lighting package. It’s expected to be offered in both single-tone and dual-tone colour schemes.
The Safari EV will copy most of the Harrier EVs cabin including the elements, layout and colour schemes. We also expect most of the feature list like the touchscreen infotainment system, instrument cluster, power driver’s seat, level-1 ADAS and lighting package to be carried over. The Safari EV will be the first three-row vehicle in the segment and we expect it to be offered with both six-seat and seven-seat options.
What will be the powertrain of the Tata Safari EV?
Like its five-door sibling, the Safari EV will be underpinned by Tata gen-2 architecture and possibly AWD via a dual motor set-up. There are no details as yet on the battery pack or motor output.
Is the Tata Safari EV a safe car?
The Tata Safari EV has not been tested for a BNCAP or GNCAP Crash test rating.
What will be the rivals for the Tata Safari EV?
The Tata Safari EV will take on the likes of the models from Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia and Mahindra all of which will arrive from 2025 and beyond.

Hyundai’s formal exit is in the final stages in this country: Report
- The negotiations are said to be in the final stages and will need the green signal from the Russian authorities to mark a smooth exit for Hyundai from the market.
South Korean auto giant Hyundai will be the next automaker to cease its business in Russia. According to a recent report by a European publication, a deal between Hyundai and a Kazakh company is currently underway that needs approval from the local government. The negotiations are in the final stages and will need the green signal from the Russian authorities to mark the brand’s smooth exit from the market.
Hyundai suspended its operations in Russia in 2022 and a formal exit hardly comes as surprising. The automaker, much like several other players, took the decision after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which prompted several economic sanctions and trade bans on the country.

Hyundai was said to be in the process of reviewing its options as far as the Russian business is concerned over the past year, and it seems winding up its operations seems to be the way to go. The Creta maker was one of the top three OEMs in the country alongside Renault and sister brand Kia. It has a production capacity of 200,000 vehicles annually, which is about four per cent of the brand’s global production capacity.
It’s likely that Hyundai’s exit from Russia will be formalised in a few weeks from now. This should free up more resources and funds allocated for Russia to be utilised in other markets. It will be interesting to see which market Hyundai shifts its focus and funds after formalising its exit from Russia.
Also Read : Demand for pre-owned cars rise in Russia as global brands shun auto sector
Apart from Hyundai, other carmakers who have discontinued operations in Russia include Toyota, Renault, Suzuki, Nissan, Honda, Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and more. Renault’s 100 per cent stake was bought out by Moscow City, which renamed the automaker’s Moscow manufacturing facility to Moscow Automobile Factory Moskvich. The plant now produces rebadged vehicles sourced from Chinese manufacturer JAC under the revived Moskvitch brand.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen’s exit saw a legal tussle after local player GAZ dragged the automaker to court over allegations of breaking an existing arrangement for producing VW vehicles at the Nizhny Novgorod facility. Mercedes-Benz chose to divest its 15 per cent stake in Kamaz and sold off its shares in the local subsidiaries to Avtovaz.
The exit of global automakers from Russia has made way for Chinese players to find footing in the country. OEMs including Geely, Chery Automobile, and Great Wall Motor (GWM), grabbed 17 per cent of Russia’s auto market in 2022. It’s noteworthy that Geely is the parent company of the Swedish auto brand Volvo, which also announced its exit from Russia last year.

Moscow’s growing appeal for business tourism: India prominent player
In 2023 alone, moscow welcomed 3.7 million business travelers, marking a 7% rise from the previous year..
Moscow is rapidly emerging as a key destination for business tourism, with a significant increase in the number of business tourists visiting the capital. In 2023 alone, Moscow welcomed 3.7 million business travelers, marking a 7% rise from the previous year. Among the leading nations contributing to this growth, India stands out as a prominent player in the non-CIS category.
Recognizing the importance of fostering partnerships and showcasing Moscow’s potential as a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination, the Moscow City Tourism Committee organized the Shaping MICE Future Conference in Delhi. The event aimed to introduce Indian MICE industry representatives to the diverse offerings of the Russian capital.
Anastasia Popova, Deputy General Director for International and Industry Cooperation, emphasized Moscow’s established reputation as a hub for business tourism on the global stage. She highlighted the city’s mission to demonstrate to Indian partners the wide array of opportunities for organizing MICE events, coupled with existing tourist programs.
At the conference, industry experts from Russia and India delivered presentations and insights into the future of MICE events in both countries. A detailed overview of Moscow’s MICE potential was presented, alongside an analytical report on the outbound MICE market in India. Panel discussions and brainstorming sessions enabled participants to assess current market dynamics and develop recommendations for enhancing MICE cooperation.
Representatives from Moscow’s MICE industry, including Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and hospitality partners, actively participated in the event. B2B negotiations facilitated the exploration of new partnerships and collaborations within the Moscow business ecosystem.
Dmitriy Saraykin, co-founder of Global Transfer Provider i’way, highlighted the significant increase in demand for transfers between Russia and India, indicating growing interest from both sides in exploring business and leisure opportunities.
The conference served as a platform for the Moscow City Tourism Committee to engage with MICE industry stakeholders and prioritize incoming event requests. Indian participants gained insights into Moscow’s safety measures and attractions, fostering potential partnerships with Russian counterparts.
Mudit Mathur, director of Tours DeliteIndia, shared optimism about Moscow’s prospects as a top-choice destination for Indian tourists. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and strategic initiatives in tapping into the Indian outbound market.
Furthermore, the conference addressed the demand for unique MICE venues, such as museums and theaters, to enhance participants’ experiences. Offbeat locations like the State Historical Museum and Moscow Planetarium are gaining popularity, enticing business travelers to return with their families as leisure tourists.
In addition to the conference, initiatives like the Moscow MICE Ambassadors Program are driving growth in tourist traffic. The program, launched in collaboration with NIMA (Network of Indian MICE Agents), aims to certify representatives of the Indian market as ambassadors for promoting Moscow as a MICE destination. With plans to expand the program to 200 ambassadors by the end of 2024, Moscow is poised to further establish itself as a premier choice for business tourism.
The Shaping MICE Future Conference underscores Moscow’s commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation in the MICE industry. With its diverse offerings, strategic initiatives, and collaborative efforts, Moscow is well-positioned to cater to the evolving needs of business travelers from India and beyond.
