It’s quite tricky to write an article about things to do in Angeles City. Maybe this is the reason we’ve put the idea on hold for a while. Angeles City in Pampanga is not only a place we visited for a few days or weeks, it’s our home and it’s where I grew up, and where I met Ruben.

Maybe a simple things-todo-in-Angeles City will never do what we feel about this place justice. Nevertheless, here we are, writing this Angeles City travel guide, to introduce this place to all of you.

Angeles City is one of the places where international influences once stayed and ultimately affected our local culture here and way of life, until today. Some of these foreign influences were the American Air Force, WWII Japanese invaders, and the Spanish conquistadors.

HOW TO GET TO ANGELES CITY

How to get to angeles city by plane.

There are flight companies going to Clark like  Cebu Pacific  and Air Asia . You can get cheap flights from  Singapore and Hong Kong.  Also inside the Philippines there are cheap flights going to Coron and  Cebu  from  Clark International Airport.

HOW TO GET TO ANGELES CITY BY BUS

Angeles City is 90 kilometers far from Manila. There are buses leaving from  Pasay and Cubao , the trip will take 2-4 hours depending on the traffic. Prices are starting  $3 USD .

The main buses companies going to Manila are Victory Liner and Five Stars getting to Dau and Marque Mall in Angeles City. There are buses coming from  Baguio  the summer capital in the Philippines. The trip last 7 hours and it costs around  350-400 PHP .

HOW TO GET FROM CLARK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO ANGELES CITY

There are taxis, jeepneys and even  Grab.  The cheapest way to get Angeles City is by  Grab , especially if you choose to share with 2-3 passengers, the trip can cost  180-240  pesos and you will reach the city within 20-30 minutes. By public transportation, a shared  jeepney  from the airport costs  100 PHP each person until Main Gate .

From Main Gate you have to get to another jeepney and it will cost only 8 pesos. You will reach the city in 40-50 minutes.You can choose the option that works better for your budget and comfort.

DAILY BUDGET TO VISIT ANGELES CITY

Those visiting Angeles City are in for a treat. Many of the food and hotels in the city are inexpensive but more than satisfying. A full meal in the city can go for as low as  80 PHP  per person while a bottle of beer can be bought for around  50-65 PHP .

Restaurant food can be bought for around  500-800 PHP  for two people. Pretty cheap, right? And if you only have  20 PHP  in your pocket and you’re feeling pretty hungry, you can even buy plenty of street food with your cash.

Transportation is also pretty cheap with jeepneys going all over town at a flat rate of  9 PHP . If you want to travel to Manila from Angeles, the ride will also be convenient and cheap at around  150 PHP .

Those who are looking for budget hotels in Angeles and can find one on a promo for around  600-900 PHP . Three-star establishments go for around  1,000-2,000 PHP . That’s only $19-38 USD! TRANSPORTATION AROUND ANGELES CITY

Jeepneys  are the most common form of transportation in the country and all over Angeles City. This may be an option not preferred by many tourists, but adventurous travelers will surely enjoy riding one as you get to interact with locals and experience the city from their point of view.

As mentioned, a ride can cost as cheap as  9 PHP  and increases depending on the distance of your destination.

A more convenient way of going from one place to another in Angeles is to ride a  taxi . They’re actually not that common around the city, though, but can be used to go around Clark and Balibago.

Tricycles  are also a safe and commonly used way to travel. This is perfect for going to nearby places or along low-speed roads.

1. VISIT HOLY ROSARY PARISH CHURCH

Holy Rosary Parish Church is one of the most iconic place here in Angeles City, the locals calls it “Pisambang Maragul”. Santo Rosario Church, or now known as the Holy Rosary Parish Church is a beautiful sight to visit having two tall towers and castle-like structures.

This house of worship carries a lot of controversial history that was held during the Spanish era. It’s a must in the things to do in Angeles City.

2. NAYONG PILIPINO CLARK

Nayong Pilipino Clark is a walk through park where you’ll be able to pass by significant buildings such as old charges and house of national heroes. This park has it all from bits of Philippine culture to its history to nature.

So, if you’re looking to spend an hour or two for enjoyably decade worth of Philippine culture and history, then visit Nayong Pilipino Clark. In addition to that, it’s also a great place for kids with plenty of action to keep them entertained and to keep them satiated, where there a lot of snacks available to buy.

Pamintuan Mansion is also one of the historical landmarks in Angeles City. It was built in 1890 by Don Mariano Pamintuan and Valentina Torres as a wedding gift to their son and was later transformed into a museum.

Juan D. Nepomuceno Center for Kapampangan Studies, serves as a museum, research center, gallery and more, since so many changes have occurred to Angeles City, from its history to the rules in the city.

This comprehensive library archived important files that anyone can dive through Angeles city’s history and learn about the native Kapampangan people. It is located in the main building of Holy Angel University, Sto. Rosario, Angeles City.

Korean town in Angeles City is located in  Friendship Avenue.  You can enjoy unli buffets and unli samgyupsal with your friends and family. There are a lot of Korean store and restaurants to choose from what and where you would like to buy or dine.

Unlimited food and ice tea are included if stated. Even though prices are little bit expensive, the food is delicious.

MILA´S TOKWA BABOY

It is a must try food in Pampanga, and  Kapampangan’s are known to be a good cooks.  Sisig is the most popular dish in Angeles City. Ears and head of the pig mixed with fried onions and chili. It´s served with rice and calamansi. This restaurant is always full and maybe you need to book in advance.

SUSIE´S CUISINE

We love this brand for local food. Our favorite one is  palabok, empanada, halo-halo and ube.   Where to eat in Angeles City?  In Susie´s you will find many different Kampangan´s options. Prices are very affordable.

MISTER FROSTY

Our  favorite local restaurant quality-price  in Angeles City. The food is delicious, big portions and very affordable prices. Good for adults and also great menu if you are traveling with kids.

SHAKEYS AND NEW YORK PIZZA

Rachel´s favorite is pizza , and she always craves for pizza. These are our favorite places for pizza, service is good, portions are good and delicious! It´s little bit expensive comparing with the other locals restaurants.

COFFEE ACADEMY

It´s our favorite coffee shop in Balibago, there are different options for  coffee and smoothies . And when our internet isn´t working, it’s the place that we choose to work in. Regular price and they  open for 24 hours , which we love about. You can visit the place anytime!

STREET FOOD

We can´t forget our favorite street food; mami, lugaw, fish and chicken ball, hot dog and calamari are the  most popular street food . If you dare you can try  balut , a developing bird embryo that was boiled.

It´s always a challenge for Filipinos to make foreigners try it. Prices are very affordable, and you can have it as dinner for  $1-2 USD .

If you’re looking for exotic meals and traditional cooking; Apag Marangle is right for you. This Kapampangan restaurant will certainly give you a fun dining experience.

15 Best Things to Do in Angeles City (the Philippines)

Formerly home to the largest American Air Force Base outside of the states, Angeles city has been hyper-kicked into full urbanization. There has been a lot of international influence here throughout modern history by the American Air force, WWII Japanese invaders, and Spanish conquistadors. You’ll see this reflected in monuments, street names, food, and more.

When you visit, expect to see lots of historical memorials honoring American forces and plenty of neighborhoods that were once the stomping grounds for American troops. When the air force base closed down, many Americans stayed. That is why you’ll find a heavy expat community here and plenty of American food, restaurants, and shops that cater towards western desires.

The climate here is categorized as “Tropical Savanna” and “Tropical Monsoon”. You’ll find the wettest times of the month between May and October, with the remainder of the year relatively dry. The hottest month that Angeles City experiences is June- it typically reaches around 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

1. Join a Festival

Angeles City has festivals kicking off all year round, with October being one of the liveliest months.

Start with La Naval Fiesta on the second Sunday of October that honors the Spanish fleet of Navy ships that have protected the country from the Dutch.

Also in October, you can join in on 3 days of the Big Bite Northern Food Festival held at Marquee Mall. Enjoy over 100 food stalls serving food from the Northern Philippines- with Sisig as the main event.

On the last Friday of October, thousands of devotees migrate to the Apu shrine to pay tribute to Jesus Christ in the Apu Fiesta.

2. Holy Rosary Church

Also known as Santo Rosario Church, this Roman Catholic Church is a beautiful sight to visit with two tall towers and a castle-like structure. But this church is more than just a pretty building and house of worship; it also carries a lot of controversial history.

During the Spanish era, this church was filled with Filipino slaves. The Spanish would take Filipino people of “peasant” status and submit them to forced labor in the name of the church. Countless murders have been committed in this spooky place.

3. Juan D. Nepomuceno Center for Kapampangan Studies

With so much history and so many changes of rule in this city, it’s hard to keep up with what happened when. Luckily, there is a comprehensive library that has archived it all.

Thanks to the Holy Angel University, anyone can come and take a deeper dive into the history of Angeles City and the native Kapampangan people. This place serves as a museum, research center, gallery, and more.

Nearby, you’ll also find the Museum of Kapampangan Arts that houses works by locally famous Filipino artists.

4. Lily Hill

What was once a lookout point during World War II to monitor the movements of the Japanese, Lily Hill is now an unofficial historical museum. Here you can find WWII relics such as the skeleton of an old Japanese airplanes. On your visit, you’ll also find a 5-ton granite statue of the Tibetan monk, Kannon along with smaller monuments in remembrance of these tough times.

The land itself is worth a walk with greenery all around, blossoming flowers in the spring, and a mysterious feeling while imagining what has taken place right where you step.

5. Kamikaze East Airfield

During World War II, the Japanese fought dirty with suicidal airplane pilots that would crash their Kamikaze planes into the ground at great speeds, killing those around them.

At the Kamikaze East Airfield, you can visit a thought-provoking monument describing the attacks and depicting the intense nationalism of the Japanese military soldiers. The monument serves as a reminder to the reality that once was upon the Philippines and to promote international friendship and positive relations so that history is never repeated in this way.

6. K-9 Cemetery / Military Working Dogs Cemetery

During the era of the Clark Air Force Base, any and every service dog that passed was given an honorary burial and ceremony.

The K-9 Cemetery / Military Working Dogs Cemetery has not been well maintained, but to be honest, the over growth has only added to the intrigue. You’ll walk through tall grass, parting the reeds to read the headstones with doggie names engraved on each one.

7. Air Force City Park

Geek out at this outdoor air force museum home to multiple air force jets, propeller planes and helicopters. You can get an up close look to touch at the planes and helicopters once used by the American air force during their stay in Angeles City. A entertaining alteration, many of these planes have been repainted with the Philippine Air Force Logo, but have never actually been used by the Philippine military.

Nearby, you’ll find the barracks for soldiers and a couple of small monuments paying tribute to the American troops. If you come from a military family, you will especially appreciate the opportunity to take a step back in time to see how these soldiers once lived.

8. Zoocobia Fun Zoo

Whether you are a family with kids or just a couple of grownup kids yourselves, a day at Zoocobia Fun Zoo in Angeles City is one you’ll never forget. There are so many thrilling activities for fun-lovers of all ages.

There are super-extreme slides, superman-style ziplining, gravity car racing, pony rides, and an impossibly huge garden maze.

After you’ve worked up an appetite, pop into their tree house restaurant with beautiful views of the jungle. Nibble on western bites such as grilled chicken, burger steak, or breaded pork. There are also set menus that offer a little bit of everything for a reasonable price!

9. Midnight Rodeo

It might look a bit intimidating at first with a cloudy front door and crowded scene, but Midnight Rodeo is the place to go for live music. Talented Filipino cover bands play nonstop from evening til 2:30 in the morning. Your eardrums will be treated to country, reggae, oldies, alternative, pop, and more. You’ll be singing along with practically every song.

The vibes are really friendly here with everyone wearing a smile and many people wearing cowboy hats and big belt buckles.

The music isn’t overwhelmingly loud so you can still have a conversation with your pals while you sip on an ice-cold beer.

10. The Living Room

On the 7th floor of the Queen’s Hotel you will find the coveted establishment dubbed ‘The Living Room’.

Chill out with your friends by playing a game of darts or billiards. There are plenty of TVs around to catch a Philippine boxing match, and lots of laidback seating where you could easily spend hours taking a little ‘me time’.

Head out to the patio for some fresh air and spectacular views of the city. When events or festivals are taking place in Angeles city, this is one of the best spots to watch the fireworks.

11. SM City Clark

SM City Clark is a one-stop mall shop for all your needs and entertainment. Anything you need or miss from home is right here under one roof.

Fill up on tons of great food from Filipino fast food restaurants, traditional pot stalls, Japanese cuisine, or western spots with burgers. The most popular Angeles city Starbucks is here, along with a theatre playing IMAX movies. There is a Nike store along with many more familiar western brands. Take a walk through this park where you’ll pass by significant Angeles City buildings like old churches and the house of national heroes. Then, enjoy an hour-long cultural show in the afternoon. Mosey on over to the Aeta Village where you can watch traditional dances. There is also an Orchidarium with indigenous plant species. Wednesdays are Ladies Day where girls get Php 250 to spend on drinks and on Fridays, come for the pool party with a live DJ and beer pong tournament. The grand debut will take place at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City from Dec. 7 to 17, offering an outdoor market-style festival with faux snow, delicious treats, activities and games. 

All month long, guests can also enjoy photos with Santa in his Workshop, indulge in holiday-themed food and drinks at FIVE on The Hill's Jingle Bell Tavern, and savor extended brunch and buffet services at Cafe Sierra with unlimited champagne and lobster.
