7. Sawai Madhopur

Sawai Madhopur was built by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh of The Kachwaha Rajputs and was founded in 1763. While the town itself doesn’t have any notable tourist attractions, just two attractions have made this city a must visit place in Rajasthan. They are the Ranthambore Fort and the Ranthambore National park . Both of the two places are a must visit and will take up around 2-3 days for one to explore properly. The Ranthambore forests were the hunting grounds for the Kachwaha Rajputs of Jaipur till the time India received its independence. After independence it was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary and it rose to being a tiger reserve in 1973 and got its national park status in 1980.

One should also visit the Ranthambore fort, which is a part of the UNESCO world heritage site. The fort is situated in the forests of the Ranthambore National Park. The construction of the fort predates the reign of the Kachwaha Rajput Clan and was founded by the Nagil Jat Ruler Raja Sajraj Veer Singh Nagil in 944 AD. The fort housed many different ruling clans till it finally fell to the Kachwaha Rajputs of Jaipur. The vast cultural history imbibed in this ancient architecture is a must visit indeed.

8. Chittorgarh

The ancient city of Chittorgarh also known as Chittor , was said to have been founded by the Maurya Dynasty. However its significance rose when the Ruler of the Sisodiya Rajput Clan of Mewar captured the city in 734 Ad and made it the capital of Mewar. The place is known to be the birthplace of many great warriors and historical figures like the Great Maharana Pratap and the Hindu saint, Meera Bai. The city being an ancient place contains many different palaces, temples and forts which display some of the most advanced architectural designs and artistic mastery.

One of the major places to visit in Chittorgarh is the Chittorgarh fort, which is the largest fort in India. The fort was the former capital of mewar before its relocation to the more secure city of Udaipur. The fort was founded in the 7th century by the 1st Sisodiya Rajput Ruler Bappa Rawal and spreads over an area of 2.8 sq kilometers and its highest elevation point is 1,075 meters above sea level. Upon visiting you will experience and witness the Rajput style architecture at its best. The fort complex itself contains several palaces, gardens and temples most of which have a great historical significance.

A First Class Tour Company in Every Respect.

Have just returned from an 11day tour of ‘The Golden Triange’, arranged through Trailfinders, but had Trans India looking after us there. In our view Trailfinders is THE best holiday company in the UK by far, and they & Trans India have been partners for 20 years, which says everything. The were absolutely spot on with everything, lovely modern cars, great drivers & guides, they took care of everything, even down to finding porters for you at airports & railways stations & paying the porters. If you have a rail journey, you aren’t just dropped off at a station, your personal guide takes you to the train, finds your seat & watches till the train pulls out, the next guide is standing right by your carriage when you arrive at your new destination. They did not miss a beat in all 11days. We highly recommend them.

Trans India were so amazing

Trans India were so amazing - they are Trailfinders’s partners in India. They ensured our wonderful 13 day tour of Rajasthan was just perfect. It was truly seamless and we cannot fault them. We had the most fabulous driver , Mr Singh, who was driving us every day. He was so hardworking and caring. The guides in each city we visited were all superb and highly trained. We will be rebooking - do not use anyone else! Trailfinders and Trans India are an unbeatable team.

Trailfinders had booked our trip and Trans India were facilitating it. The trip was tailor made and Trans India were there at every point, from airports to train stations, there was someone to meet us and help us on our way. The staff were always helpful and wanted to make sure we had a good trip. We went to Ranthambore and the representative was helpful and looked to make our trip exactly how we wanted. Trips around Mumbai and Delhi where we were well looked after and the tour guides were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended and would happily use again.

This company is gold star, brilliant

We are two couples in our 60s who were supported by this tour and guide company whilst in India. We can only say brilliant, fantastic, looked after us with great care and attention. They supplied mini buses to accommodate us 4 people all through the tours various destinations and two separate cars on the narrow roads down from Shimla. They always picked us up on time, drove us to our tourist destination of train station, paid for entry or train tickets and then the guide escorted us and briefed us on all the history or journey instructions. We really felt special. On request they took us to ATMs to draw money which made us feel safe and if we asked they helped us get money change or water. This was very helpful as many stalls would charge more to tourists. They never interfered with shopping bartering but made us feel safe with their presence. All Tuk Tuk’s and Rickshaws required within our booking, they sourced and paid for us so that we did not have the haggle pressure. Without exception our drivers were brilliant Ranjeet Roy, Hitesh Soni, Rakesh and Ranjeet of Leela tours. Unfortunately we did not need to write all our guides names down as we had so many different ones for different monuments but once again their English was brilliant and they looked after us and explained history very clearly, also happy to help take photographs for us. Our guides that took us around the Taj Mahal and escorted us back from Shimla to our train where above and beyond good. We remember one name as he was in my car in Shimla - Shatrughan Sharma. He was exceptionally kind, proud of his area and so respectful towards us older people. Also we had to change our flights because of the Corona Virus and it was a bit scary. Our guide Saurabh stayed at the Airport door until he knew we had our boarding passes. He stayed incase we got into difficulty as the airport was very crowded with people trying to get home before all flights shut down. Thankyou Trans India Holidays for making our holiday so enjoyable and hassle free from Mr& Mrs Trusler and the Walter couple. 🙂

Speaking about the destinations most frequented by travellers from Kolkata, Arunodoy Dey, director of a city-based travel agency, said, "During summer vacations, people always opt for hill stations. In Kolkata, Darjeeling and Gangtok are the most opted tour packages for short trips. Additionally, Kashmir is the most coveted choice, especially this year." Nandini, Head Relations at a city based travel agency adds that Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala and Kashmir are a few more hill stations city travellers are in love with apart from North Bengal when it comes to long vacations.

As demand surges, Indians prefer destinations about 5 hours away

Dubai: How do you tap the tourism potential of Indian travelers?

The fifth largest economy in the world, India is home to 1.44 billion people - and 27.3 million people travelled out of the country in 2023. That number is expected to reach 30 million this year, which is why there’s so much interest in Indian tourists. And became a talking point at the Arabian Travel Market on Monday.

At the session – ‘Unlocking the true potential of Indian travelers – the moderator Virendra Jain, co-founder and CEO of Videc, set the ball rolling, saying that the Indian travel market is a $49 billion opportunity that is estimated to grow to $72 billion by FY-2026, driven mainly by a young and digitally-savvy population.

Jain said: “India right now has 93 million active passports. 14 million of them were issued in 2023, seven times the number of passports India issued in 2000, which is symbolic of the upward trajectory of travellers coming from India.”

Jain was joined by Ross Veitch, CEO and co-founder of Wego, Raj Rishi Singh, CMO and CBO-Coporate of MakeMyTrip, and Ankur Garg, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India Express.

At the end of 50 minutes, they were sure that the profile of Indian travellers had changed, with leisure and tourism forming a critical avenue for spending.

Within 5 hours

One uniform observation was the preference of Indians for destinations that require only five hours of flying time. That makes the UAE a destination of choice, and Dubai is seen more like a domestic destination.

How do you attract the Indian tourist? Five ways, maybe.

Cheap and easy visas, affordability, direct flights and payment systems are among the factors travellers take into account before deciding on a destination.

Ease the visa regime

Veitch insisted that the visa regime is a critical factor in attracting Indian travellers. A Schengen visa will take 30 days, if you are lucky, and a US visa appointment would take up to 365 days, he said.

“The best thing you could do if you want to stimulate this market is to rationalise your visa policies,” Veitch added.

Garg concurred, saying visa policies do matter. “The visa cost starts having a lot of product impact. We have seen countries with visas on arrival and countries where the visa cost is low. When the international destination is cheaper or at par with the domestic destinations, the decision will depend on the ease of getting the visa and the cost of visa,” the Air India Express official said.

What spurs Indians to travel abroad? Veitch says income is one of the main drivers.

“More than 50 million households in India are on more than $10,000 a month today. That number is growing at a rapid pace, and in another four years, it will add another 30 million households.

“So, with overall incomes going up, the number of people who can afford to travel outside is also going up.”

Garg said Indian travellers no longer come from only the metros but also from smaller cities around the country. “From Amritsar Jaipur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Indore and Goa, we have seen that kind of traffic in the last two to three years. I feel that a lot of growth is going to come from having non-stop connectivity from the next set of towns and cities in India to international destinations,” the chief commercial officer of Air India Express said.

Changes to travel patterns

Even the pattern of travel has changed. Rishi Singh pointed out that Indians now readily opt for weekend travel.

“Earlier, the Indian scenario was one long and one short vacation. This changed to multiple short vacations, and at times people skip long vacations. And so I think it’s affordability and how fast you can reach that place [decides the destination],” the MakeMyTrip official said.

Rishi Singh said one of their surveys showed that 85 per cent of the respondents were first-time outbound travellers, which translates into 27 million outbound passengers.

“When you are travelling internationally, there is this external anxiety, especially if you’re a first-time traveller. So it’s important to have someone to support you during the journey. So we’ve been trying to build journeys, both through digital and otherwise, where we deal away with this insanity,” the MakeMyTrip official said.

Jain noted that the payment system is one area that requires more attention. “Founded in 2016, UPI in 2022 accounted for six times the value of transactions compared to debit and credit cards combined [in India]. It’s way ahead in growth right now; there are seven countries that accept UPI as a payment mechanism,” he said.

“Travel is a lifestyle revenue that grows as the economy grows. So, there’s a correlation between outbound departure and GDP per capita. There is a very clear trend over 30 years as the per capita income has grown, and so have the outbound departure numbers,” Jain added.

“The Indian government is doing the right things, from a macroeconomic point of view, to sustain the sort of growth needed to drive this sort of outbound numbers,” Veitch said.

South African Tourism to host over 40 Indian trade partners at Africa’s Travel INDABA 2024

South African Tourism is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated ‘Africa’s Travel INDABA 2024’, set to take place in the picturesque province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
