Things to do in Norfolk

Nicknamed ‘Britain’s Magical Waterland,’ the Norfolk Broads make up a network of waterways throughout the county. The best way to see it is, of course, by boat. Either join a tour or book your own. There's plenty of things to do in Norfolk . The village of Horsey is a great starting point and it’s just 10 miles from our Great Yarmouth Acle Hotel. You’ll be treated to a windmill as soon as you get going. For something different, go to Bewilderwood. Located a 25 minute drive from our Norwich Central Riverside Hotel, this is a myths and legends themed adventure park. Expect treehouses, zipwires and boat trips.

Welcome to Alderwood self-catering holiday lodges Norfolk. We have three timber holiday lodges and one glamping pod, which are set in 8 acres of tranquil woodland & grassland, beside the river “Little Ouse”.

We are on the edge of the Brecks area in South Norfolk with its unique flora & fauna. The market towns of Diss and Thetford are 8 miles away. The lovely historic town of Bury St Edmunds with its cathedral and Abbey gardens and with many great shops is 16 miles away. Come to Norfolk and visit us soon for a unique log cabin holiday you will love.

There are now EV Car charging points at each lodge, so please request a key to unlock the charger, and then pay Leigh direct for the usage.

Silver Birch

New addition for 2024, our Glamping Pod "Silver Birch", sleeping 2 in King size bed and a sofa bed for 1-2 small children or one adult. Only one well behaved dog allowed.

The Alderwood Lodges site has just been awarded the David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation for the 10th successive year

Our holiday park is a wonderful Norfolk get away and we achieved the Gold Award for more than 10 years for the David Bellamy Conservation scheme and in 2013, we were given the Special Distinction Award for our Bird Hide we built from recycled leylandi trees felled on site, which was officially opened by Professor David Bellamy along with the children from our local primary school & the Brownies club.

Things to do on the Norfolk Coast

Wells-next-the-sea beach.

Wells Beach is easily one of Norfolk's finest. The sand goes on for miles and miles and hundreds of quirky colourful beach huts on stilts, run along the pine forest wall and back dunes. You can access the beach via the nearby carpark or it's a short walk or miniature rail ride from town along the East Fleet river.

Seaview Beach Cafe

This family run beach cafe is located next to the beach at West Runton, and has been run by the same family for over 25 years. It offers delicious hot and cold snacks/beverages, ice creams, buckets, spades, etc. The shack on the patio offers gifts, has a fossil display, and will identify your fossils/beach finds. The SUP shack offers paddle board, surfboard and body board hire, wetsuits hire and lessons. Seasonal opening times. Nearby car park.

Perched on the coast just to the south of Great Yarmouth, Gorleston has a sweeping sandy bay that stretches out below cliff gardens and a long promenade. The sea's strong currents make it a firm favourite with surfers and bodyboarders.

If you prefer less adventurous pursuits, there's bowling greens, tennis courts and a pitch and putt course. On hot days, cool off with a delicious scoop of Dimascio's ice cream right next to the beach.

Variety shows at the Pavilion Theatre

Gorleston's Edwardian theatre hosts seaside specials throughout the summer season and festive shows at Christmas, and is a popular dining and dancing venue.

Life in miniature at Merrivale Model Village

Head to the neighbouring resort of Great Yarmouth to see this brilliant miniature world set in landscaped gardens on the seafront. Spot tiny cricketers playing on the village green, a church wedding celebration and model trains running through the village. While here, you can also play crazy golf and try your luck in the Old Penny Arcade.
