</a></span>"}'/> Margao is the second largest city in the Indian state of Goa , 33 km from the state capital Panaji . It is Goa's cultural and commercial capital, and is close to the central coast. The long white-sand beach stretch was rated by an early-1970s UNDP study as potentially one of the ten best beaches in the world.
This South Goa city is also the second-largest (after Vasco da Gama) by population and very busy as the administrative headquarters of South Goa.
This beach spans more than 30 kilometres, from Sancoale in the north to the Mobor Peninsula in the south. Margao lies somewhat in the middle of this beach, five kilometres eastwards. Hence, it's a convenient base station for beaches like Velsao, Cansaulim, Arossim, Majorda, Betalbatim, Colva, Sernabatim, Benaulim , Varca, Fatrade, Cavelossim and Mobor.
Like other Goan places, Margao too has got multiple names in different languages. It's called Madgaon by the Indian Railways, and the local Konkani pronunciation is Mudgannv or Modgannv. MargĆ£o is the Portuguese name and spelling.
Skirted in part by the River Sal, Margao is known for its huge Indo-Portuguese style mansions -- they are more visible around here than in other parts of Goa. Take a look around Abade Faria Road and its eastern parallel, the Padre Miranda Road, the area around the Holy Spirit Church and St. Joaquim Road that leads to Borda.
Margao is crowded and hot, but it's worth seeing. The hustle and bustle is quite incredible.
The nearest airport is Goa Airport, at Dabolim (28 km).
Margao is connected by road to other cities like Mangalore , Udupi , Karwar , Ratnagiri , and Mumbai through national highway 17. Also, there is a road which connects Margao to Ponda and other towns in Goa.
Almost all trains passing through Goa stop here, and it is the gateway to south Goa. There are direct trains from most parts of India including Delhi, Mumbai, Cochin, Mangalore and Bangalore. For a list of trains, see the main article .
Margao is also a convenient point to disembark for the beaches of Palolem (38 km) or Colva and Benaulim (about 6-8 km).
Margao is well connected with other cities of Goa by bus.
Express mini-buses run by the (Goa government) Kadamba Transport Corporation connect Margao to Panjim (Panaji), the state-capital. These mini-buses leave from the KTC Bus Stand, on the outskirts of Margao, and one needs to queue up to buy a ticket. They ply during peak hours (not after 8PM or so).
Some inter-state buses touch Margao. For instance, buses headed to Bangalore via the Karwar route, touch Margao in the evenings, and pick up passengers there. Some of the buses for Mumbai leave from Margao, but they are only a few.
Buses connect the Margao-Panjim route till 9:30PM. Margao is also connected to Ponda, Vasco da Gama, Canacona, Karwar and a number of outlying villages of Margao. Margao is a major terminus on the Konkan Railway route, and local and express trains connecting to Mumbai, Gujarat, Kerala, coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu halt here as per their schedules.
It is very easy to get a bike for rent in Goa, so go to any of the famous Motorcycle taxi guys and ask for a bike to rent and they will be happy to assist you.
Auto rickshaws are very rare to find while taxis (Maruti Omni's, ambassadors, etc.) are easily accessible. Motorcycle taxis are a great option for solo travellers.
Private buses are also very efficient for travelling within Margao and to nearby locations. Remember: unlike other states, Goa doesn't have separate men and women seating arrangements. Busses are cheap with maximum charges of around ā¹6 for a 3-5 km distance.
Intercity/interstate trains leave from the bigger junction station about 2 km from the centre of town. If you are getting a bus into the city and get dropped off here (just 2 km north of the main city square), public buses only run 7AM-7PM, but private buses run until about 11PM. They stop at the main road entrance to the bus stand, close to the middle. It's ā¹10 to the centre of town in a private bus.
Some landmarks in Margao include the Presentation Convent (Holy Spirit Church area) and the Fatima Convent (near the municipal square). They are two of Margao's oldest unisex high schools started and being run by Catholic religious congregations, for girls.
Clergy Home along arterial Padre (Pe.) Miranda Road was among the first shelters for retiring priests built by the Goa Archdiocese. Today you can see the reconstructed version. It is near today's district hospital, Hospicio , which is a unique edifice in its own right. It was founded by Rev. Antonio Joao de Miranda, a humble Catholic clergyman, after whom the thoroughfare outside is named.
Clube Harmonia was originally called the Clube de Margao (subsequently renamed as Teatro de Harmonia) operating from a house at the Borda locality. The idea of a modern building for the Teatro de Harmonia was mooted by its members in 1936. The present structure was built 1955. Together with Bernado Peres da Silva (BPS) Club, Clube ABC and Margao Cricket Club, Harmonia is today a leading social club of the town.
Hindu Mathagramasth Sabha : As the 'mathagram' in the name suggests, it's a Brahmin institution. It has provided yeoman's service in education, irrespective of creed or caste, to Margaoites. It runs the Damodar Arts & Science Higher Secondary School (not to be mixed up with Damodar College, that's run by Vidhya Vikas Mandal, a different ball game), one of the best higher secondary schools in Goa, if one goes by Std. XII science board exam results.
Aga Khan's Children's Park : Few would be aware that the northern half of the Margao municipal garden was actually developed by a businessman, Abdul Javerbhai Mavany, hailing from Margao's minuscule Agakhani community. He did that after two young sons were lost to cancer and His Highness, The Aga Khan, was visiting Goa. The park was inaugurated by Goa's last Portuguese Governor General, Vassalo e Silva, in 1959.
Margao is home to the popular deity of Damodar, as reflected in names of local educational and other institutions.
It has four churches, Holy Spirit in the central area, Our Lady of Grace adjoining the municipal square, St. Sebastian at Aquem and Rosary near the football stadium at Fatorda. The Holy Spirit, while entering the city from the North, is Salcete taluka's second-oldest (after the one first built within the Rachol Fort) built 1564-65, its present (fourth edition) edifice, re-built in 1645, being more grand.
The town has four chapels with near-Parish size following at Mungul, Ambajim, Borda and the picturesque 'Monte' hillock, all with resident Chaplains and regular daily services. In addition, there is a major church of the Carmelite order at Malbhat, besides half a dozen chapels of various religious orders from Jesuits to Salesians. A walk around this church-square reveals some grand homes, and great photo opportunities. Check the scenic chapel on the nearby Monte Hill.
Gomant Vidhya Niketan : After Portugal became a republic in 1910, Margao-based Hindus used the end of religious discrimination and their new found freedom to establish this noble institution on March 19, 1912. It was then known as Saraswat Brahman Samaj and renamed to its current name in 1962, and ran a public library at the southern end of Abade Faria road. The present building was built in 1965 and houses the library in the rear of the ground floor and an auditorium upstairs. It is the venue of most of Konkani and Marathi stage shows to this date. The society also runs a physio-therapy centre from rented premises further down the road.
A modern stage centre, Ravindra Bhavan, near Fatorda's Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru football stadium, promises to be South Goa's major centre for the performing art
Among the town's spots one could check out: the early 20th-century municipal building (CĆ¢mara) and the municipal garden lying in front of it, the municipal garden, the Anna Fonte (natural springs), the Old Market or Mercado Velho, the Hindu crematorium ('smashant bhoomi'), the Catholic cemetery and the Muslim burial ground ('kabrasthan'), all on Pajifond's Rua das Saudades.
Margao also hosts Goa's largest Nehru sports stadium, where one can run into popular off-monsoon evening football matches, and even the occasional international cricket test match.
Konkan Railway is working on a Skybus (elevated rail system) which can be seen in Margao, amidst challenges on the fronts of costs and technology. Konkan Railway claims its Skybus, which technology it has patented, will follow the existing roads without taking "road space and be as flexible as a bus". It will have rail-based mass transit capacity, not divide the city, be derailment and collision-proof, free from vandalism, noise-free and pollution-free, and non-invasive (requiring the "least amount of scarce land space and not come in the way of development").
Margao's name is believed to come from "matha-grama" (the village of religious maths) as it was a village of temple schools (mathas) -- including the principal Vaishnavi 'math', Jeevottam, before it was shifted to Partagal in Canacona half a millennium ago. Margao's main Matha, Jeevottam, was shifted to Ordhofond, Partagal in Canacona in 1475, as political battles took on religious tones in those medieval days. Margao was also a temple town, with as many as 13 temples in 1544 when the population was around just five thousand, according to writer and former Margao municipality chief S Valmiki Faleiro.
Margao's Holy Spirit church square is also known for its baroque architecture church. It also is lined by palatial mansions around it. Structures in this area are low-rise, adding to the stately nature of the locality, with a maximum of two floors. Many have balconies (the balcao or balcoes) and verandas facing the square.
Running parallel to the Church Square is the Old Market's commercial street. Next to the church is a landscaped area called the Praca da Alegria (Square of Happiness).
Another landmark in Margao is the commercial shopping area around the municipal garden and the old bus stand. Part of the garden was developed by the Mavany business family, and dedicated to the Aga Khan, during a visit of his to colonial Goa. Swami Vivekananda is also known to have stayed in the home of another business family, the influential Narcinva D. Naik residence, during a visit to Goa way back in 1892. The mansion also houses Margao's well-known temple-hall Damodar Sal.
In Aquem Alto, Arlem was Goa's first brewery started by the Chowgules at a locality of the same name (Arlem), on the outskirts of Margao. Incidentally, Goa's second brewery was the Mallya's, at Bethora-Ponda. Former politician Monte Cruz must have been the last to join the club with his brand of Kings.
Goa Bottling, better known locally as "Gold Spot" after the popular aerated softie it bottled in the yesteryears, was a latecomer to Goa. It straddles the corner junction of Margao-Ponda NH-4A and Margao's Eastern Bypass road. Among Goa's very first aerated soft drink bottlers was a seaman from Velim, who, immediately in the post-liberation years, started his Crunet bottling unit at Borda, in Margao. Coke's Goa franchise, the politically prominent family of the Sequeiras, later started their unit in Borim. The mining-based Modu Timblo group later started Goa Bottling. It's now owned by Pepsi's Delhi-based principal franchise in India.
Cupid's Haven is a nearby open air event venue. It hosts dances and wedding receptions.
Goa's second plant that makes industrial and medical oxygen gas from thin air, Goving Poy Oxygen, is nearby. (The first was Gas Carbonico, on Margao's outskirts at Nuvem, a village that was once part of Margao. The company was taken over by Margao Govind Poys, once a smalltime hardware establishment that diversified into multi-purpose gases with factories in Cochin, Nashik and Goa.)
Also part of the city's map are places like the Pandava cave (near the current St. Sebastiao Church at Aquem, Torsannzor -- a healing mineral spring, more famous than Ana Fonte in yesteryears -- among others.
Some of the buildings are still styled in a colonial way, from the Portuguese past. Some places to visit in and around Margao are:
Margao also has a 'covered' market (earlier Mercado de Afonso de Albuquerque, near Pimplapedd or Pimpalakatta in Konkani), along Francisco Luis Gomes Road (a.k.a. Old Station Road), even if the town's main market today adjoins the Kadamba bus terminus near its northern reaches.
There are markets all over the place.
Margao isn't as rich in decent eating places as the touristic coast nearby. But because Margao is a town rather than a tourist destination, the restaurants are open year-round.
Check some on these list: the restaurant at Hotel Nanutel (Indian/Chinese/mixed). Longuinhos (Goan/Indian/Chinese). Hotel Woodlands' bar. The restaurant of Hotel Saaj (Malayalee specialities). Shahi Durbar along FL Gomes (Old Station) Road for Mughlai/Indian, with nice cuisine even if a crowded area. Gaylin along Varde Valaulikar Road (behind the Collectorate) and Rice Bowl at Reliance Park, along the Margao-Colva Road, just beyond the municipal limits (Chinese), which is worthy of a recommendation.
Places to stay include the GTDC-run Margao Residence (fair place to stay on a budget), behind the municipal building; Hotel Woodlands; Nanutel; Hotel Saaj (behind Fatima Convent), Miguel Loyola Furtado Rd (behind Fatima Convent); Government Rest House, Monte; and Gold Star Hotel (Isidorio Baptista Road).
Others: Woodlands, Margao's first multi-storeyed modern hotel (the ones before were lodges and traditional pensoes that almost went to rot), Hotel Saaj and the slightly upper middle-end Nanutel which stands on part of the Cine Metropole property, opposite Ana Fonte.
There are of course numerous lodges farther away from the city centre, (ā¹300-500), and with corresponding facilities. Milan, Goa Lodge, and a sprinkling around the Khareaband road leading to Benaulim, are generally patronised by outstation travelling salesmen. But there are better places to eat and stay outside of Margao proper.
Move on to the nearby beaches of Colva , Benaulim or Palolem .

I’ve lived right bang in the heart of Margao for most part of my life. It is the place that I call home and no matter how many times I head back, I find myself following the well worn trail, exploring the same old sites and tracing some really important memories.
Margao is the place that I call home. For this reason alone, the city evokes a whole trove of memories. So if you are looking for things to do in Margao, you are talking to the right person!
Most people who visit Goa, tend to head straight to the beach. I get it. Goa has an impressive coastline. It also has a lot of other interesting things to offer.
Take Margao for example. This city is often not on many people’s radar because it does not have the same party scene that the Northern cities of Goa have. It does not mean that there are any less things to do in Margao mind you.
So today my agenda is really simple. I’m going to give you a tour of the city and let you look at it through the eyes of a local.

Visit the religious monuments.
Like any part of Goa, you will find that one of the top things to do in Margao is to visit the religious monuments in the area. The most popular ones are the famous churches but there are also a couple of temples that are also very beautiful.
The Holy Spirit church is one of the oldest churches in the area. This beautiful structure was the main church way back in my grandmother’s time as a child. It catered to the entire Christian population in Margao.
As the city expanded, the need for more churches came up and they were erected in other parts. Grace Church is a notable example.
The Holy Spirit church is the only church in the heart of Margao that has the old Portuguese architecture. It was originally built in 1564. Interestingly enough, it was destroyed in 1571 and later rebuilt in 1645. The structure took almost three decades to complete and it was finally fully functional in 1675.
The white baroque architecture is certainly prominent from the outside. Step indoors if you get the chance and you will be wowed by the detailed workmanship on the inner sanctum. Wooden benches, gilded altars and a high arched roof are the first parts of the Holy Spirit church that will capture your attention.
While for people who visit, this church is just an attraction. For us, this church holds a lot of memories. It is a very iconic part of the Margao Christian culture and its feast days are something that have to really be experienced!
Exploring the church is one of the things to do in Margao.
Grace Church is a relatively newer church compared to Holy Spirit church. It is located just opposite the Magao garden and is as iconic as its counterpart. Way back in 1812, Grace church was originally a chapel. It was called, Capella da Batalhao which can be translated to Chapel of the Batallion. This is because it was founded by the 1 st regiment.
The chapel was part of the Holy Spirit church. It was only in 1959 that it was elevated to the status of a full-fledged Parish.
If you head to Grace church, you will notice that the architectural style of the church is very different from Holy Spirit. Since it was built very recently (relatively speaking), this church has a more modern appearance.
I find that comparing the architectural styles of the different churches is one of the most interesting things to do in Margao. It tells you about how the whole society in a sense evolved.
The Nossa Senhora da Piedade Chapel holds a really special place in our hearts. This was the place where we got married so I guess it is also a spot that we will never forget.
The Nossa Senhora da Piedade chapel is attached to the Holy Spirit parish. It is a gorgeous little chapel that is located at the top of a hill in the center of Margao.
I always recommend driving up here because it gives you an amazing view of the whole city. Plus the chapel in itself is really worth the visit.
Both the inner and outer part of the chapel are done up in the old Portuguese baroque style. One that you will see in most of the old chapels across Goa.
The Nossa Senhora da Piedade chapel is normally closed. So unless you are really lucky or you head there for mass, you probably won’t catch a glimpse of the inside.
There are a lot of Maruti mandirs but the one that I am talking about is located very close to the Damodar college.
I have passed by this temple so many times as a child and always found it interesting and beautiful.
Lately the temple has been renovated and painted. The bright yellow color is visible from afar and really gives the whole temple a new vibrant look.
I did not know a lot about the temple but when I was doing my research for this article, I learnt that Maruti is another name for the Hindu god Hanuman. This temple is dedicated to him. I highly recommend taking a walk towards it while you are in the city because it is by far one of the most fascinating religious structures here.
Despite the fact that the city has developed and expanded over the past few decades, there are still a lot of things to do in Margao that revolve around the old heritage. Taking in the views of old but iconic buildings is one of them.
The best part is that you don’t really have to go out of your way to visit them. You are bound to pass them as you wander around.
If you love architecture then check out the Margao Municipal building.
You can’t come to Margao and not see the Margao Municipal building. For me, it would evoke an immediate sense of nostalgia the moment I entered the city and saw it after very long. The old building isn’t the central part of the government work as it used to be today. It still does house some of the government offices in it so it isn’t in disuse either.
The iconic building is very prominent. It has large arches, high roofs and is painted a prominent yellow and white. Intriguingly enough, the building is almost 120 years old!
One of the coolest things to do in Margao is to check out the old houses in the area.
The number of old Goan houses have certainly dwindled over time. Most of them have been replaced by high rise buildings. There are however some really pretty ones that are still in good condition. Most of these can be seen very close to the Holy Spirit church.
If you are looking for offbeat things to do in Margao then you should visit the vibrant Margao market.
I have always been in love with the Margao market. It gives you a feel of the local community. For me it evokes a great deal of nostalgia. Wandering in the Margao market is by far one of the best things to do in Margao in my opinion.
The market has everything you could possibly need. From spices to clothes, from fruit to meat. You just need to know which part of the market to head to. After over 30 years of exploring the market, I still get lost!
Visiting the Margao garden is one of the easiest things to do in Margao.
The Margao garden is another iconic part of the city. Located right at the center of the city, the garden acts as a lung for the city. It has a lot of different varieties of trees and flowers inside it. One part of the garden has slides and other activities for kids.
This was the place that our parents and grandparents took us to play as children. Today, most of the people who live in the city use the path for early morning or late evening walks. I love the canopy of trees above my head. In fact, most people prefer to choose to scoot through the garden and use it as a shortcut when they are walking around the city.
There are loads of places to visit near the city and since the distance isn’t really far, many people consider most of these activities as an extended things to do in Margao list.
Colva is one of the most popular beaches near Margao.
Colva has been one of the top things to do in Margao as far as I can remember. This beach sports some gorgeous white sand, shallow water and a myriad of different shacks/restaurants to choose from.
It has always been popular and during the peak tourist season, you will find that this is also one of the most crowded beaches near Margao.
One of the reasons why this beach is extremely popular is because it is very accessible. There are frequent buses that ply to and fro. Back in the old days, there used to be a yellow and black taxi service that was in use. They would cram you into the taxi and could literally fit as may as ten people into the car!
That however was back when people did not have cars and Colva was a picnic destination. Today however almost everyone has their own mode of transport.
One of the best things to do in Margao is to head to the beach and Benaulim is one of the top picks.
Benaulim beach is a little bit less crowded and a little bit further from the city. That however does depend on which route you take. The beach is still close enough that you can easily walk to Benaulim beach from Colva.
It is by far one of the things near Margao that people love to do. When I say this, I refer to both locals and tourists. The beach is usually pretty clean and there are loads of places to catch a bite at.
If you are headed to Benaulim then another interesting thing to do near Margao is the Goa Chitra museum. This ethnographic museum focuses on the old age traditions of Goa. It is an interesting glimpse back into our culture.
A number of the different tools used here are very familiar. Many of which you may still find in use in the villages. We found that this is a very cool place to take children to. It helped us explain a lot of the Goan culture to them/
If you are looking for other museums that explore the cultures of Goa, then Big Foot in Loutolim is definitely something that will catch your attention. This museum/ theme park is designed to take the visitor right into the heart of Goan village life.
Big Foot Loutolim has a gallery, a restaurant, a rubber plantation and a yard to explore. It should take you about an hour to explore the whole museum.
The cultural walk in margao.

If you are traveling to Goa and are looking for offbeat tours, then you should really check out Soul Traveling. They take you through the cities and offer a local perspective of the city. The beauty about it is that this tour is often taken by the locals too so that we can learn a bit about our own history.
The tour starts out at one of the oldest churches in the city, namely Holy Spirit church. From there you will walk through the narrow streets while your guide tells you stories about the neighborhood. On the way, you will even get a chance to taste some of the local snacks. The best part is that it is a small group so it caps at 8 people per tour.
Note: This tour requires a lot of walking so make sure that you don a good pair of walking shoes.
There you have it. These are some of the top things to do in Margao that I would recommend. Are there any things that you love doing in the area? Let us know in the comments below.

Whether youāre an amateur or a marine life photographer, these are the best cameras for all kinds of budgets and hobbies.
With so many options today, choosing the best point-and-shoot camera can be a trying task. But there are a few general qualities to consider. Ā Ā
āFirst, Iād look for a high-resolution camera. Try for 20 megapixels or above, if youāre looking for a camera you can print large photos from,ā says professional photographer and educator Erin Sullivan, who started out on a point-and-shoot camera herself. āNext, look for a wide aperture around [f/] 2.8. This means you can achieve nice bokehāthat pretty blur in the background.ā Ā
Size, weight, weather-proofing, and price are important features too, adds Sullivan. āWhatās most important is that you will actually use the camera you buy,ā she says. āI always try to picture how a piece of gear will fit into my kit and my lifestyle prior to purchasing.ā Ā
To make shopping easier, we dug deep, poring over research and analyses. After weighing the pros and cons, we chose the Fujifilm X100VI as the best overall point-and-shoot digital camera. We found more great options too. Here are our favorites, plus our expert tips on how to shop for the best point-and-shoot camera. Ā
The best point-and-shoot cameras Ā , best overall: fujifilm x100vi Ā .

Why we like it: TikTok largely made the Fujifilm X100VI famous, but the deviceās myriad features, from powerful 40.2 megapixel images to 20 film simulations for creative aesthetics, helped it nab the top spot. The Fujifilm X100VI is intuitive and easy for beginners, with subject detection autofocus that harnesses AI to zero in on everything from animals and cars to airplanes. And with the deviceās f/2 aperture, photographers can use blurred backdrops to help their subjects stand out. Ā
The Fujifilm X100VI is more than a good point-and-shoot camera for photography. Its capabilities extend to filmmaking, with 6.2K video at 30p. Ā
Keep in mind: The Fujifilm X100VI is not weather sealed. To help repel dust and moisture, you can purchase the PRF-49 filter (roughly $50). Ā
Who is this camera for? Ā
This point-and-shoot camera is a great investment for beginner and mid-level photographers who want a feature-rich camera that will grow with them. In particular, the wide lens and f/2 aperture enable a wide range of shooting possibilities: landscape, travel, street, portrait, and even night-sky photography. Ā

Why we like it: The 20-120mm lens makes the Panasonic FZ80D a rare point-and-shoot camera with a powerful zoom range. That glass includes an impressive aperture for the versatile focal length: f/2.8-5.9. It also grants beginners the freedom to experiment with all sorts of imagery, from wide shots of sprawling landscapes to close-ups highlighting wildlife. With 10 frames-per-second shooting, you can test out action photography too. Ā Ā Ā
Accurate auto focusing via face-detection AF helps nail the focus, while the option for shooting in RAW files lets you dabble further into post-processing. The cameraās 4K video allows for top-notch film production as well. We love that you get all of this for around $450. Ā
Keep in mind: The Panasonic FZ80D doesnāt come with weather sealing, so youāll have to be extra careful around water and dust. While the 18.1 megapixel sensor results in impressive photos for your phone or small prints, the files lack the data for large wall prints. Ā

The 16 megapixel sensor is about as good as it gets at this price. The 1080p video isnāt quite pro level, but it works well enough for recording vacations or babyās first moments. Novice photographers may also find that the intuitive design makes it easy to navigate the menu and buttons. Ā
Keep in mind: While the compact construction makes the Kodak Pixpro FZ55 ideal for travel, the camera is not weather sealed. Take care in less-than-ideal conditions and around water or dust. Ā
The Kodak Pixpro FZ55 is a true beginner camera, built for those who care less about the frills and more about capturing important memories without breaking the bank. Ā Ā Ā

Why we like it: The Sony ZV-1 II is lauded for features like its fully articulating LCD screen and portability that help enhance vlogging. It earned our ābest point-and-shoot camera for videosā rank for the high-resolution 4K recording and directional three-capsule microphone. Whatās more, an 18-50mm lens allows flexibility for setting the scene, while a wide f/1.8 aperture helps create that polished blurred background aesthetic that directs the viewerās eye. The lensā built-in ND filters combat tricky lighting scenes, helping to ensure image quality isnāt lost in bright sunlight or high contrast situations. Ā
The Sony ZV-1 II may have made a splash among videographers, but it doubles as a photo camera. A 20-megapixel sensor and 24 frames-per-second shooting support action shots and wildlife photography. Ā
Keep in mind: Itās not weather-sealed, so photographers should be mindful when using this point-and-shoot in more rugged situations. Additionally, the camera doesnāt have a viewfinder. Youāll have to get comfortable using the LCD screen. Ā
The Sony ZV-1 II is a video-first camera. Itās great for travel and documentary filmmakers, as well as vloggers, given the fully articulating LCD screen and wide aperture for blurred backgrounds. The camera is especially primed for videographers who also need high-quality photo capabilities. Ā
Product details: Ā Megapixels: 20.1 megapixels | Flash type: No flash (sold separately) | Lens type: Zoom | Camera body dimensions: 4.1 x 2.4 x 1.8 in. | Weather resistant? No Ā
Why we like it: The Olympus (now rebranded as OM System) TG-7 is as good as point-and-shoot underwater cameras get. According to the manufacturer, the TG-7 is waterproof down to 50 feet without any housingāthatās almost the maximum depth for general scuba certifications (60 feet). If you want to dive deeper, the Olympus TG-7 pairs with the PT-059 underwater housing ($350), which the manufacturer claims supports photography down to nearly 150 feet. Ā
Weāre especially impressed by this cameraās macro capabilities. According to the company, this point-and-shoot can focus as close as a centimeterāideal for capturing images of interesting marine flora and fauna. While the 12 megapixel sensor may leave photographers craving better image quality, the lensā flash and quick aperture (f/2-f/4.9) allow for as much low light versatility as one can expect from a camera that costs $500. Ā
Bonus: With a crushproof rating of up to 220 pounds and shockproof capacity up to seven feet, this camera is built for land too. Ā
Keep in mind: The 12mp sensor hinders this cameraās printing capabilities, particularly for larger sizes. Ā
This camera is perfect for hobbyists who want to capture their underwater adventures without spending thousands. That said, photographers who want to level up their game or sell images may want to invest in a higher-cost, mirrorless system with an underwater housing. Ā
Product details: Ā Megapixels: 12 megapixels | Flash type: Built-in | Lens type: 25-100mm | Camera body dimensions: 4.5 x 2.6 x 1.3 in. | Weather resistant? Yes Ā
Why we like it: Despite its compact, travel-friendly size (it weighs less than a pound), the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II packs a big punch, starting with its powerful lens. The 24-100mm glass has a quick f/1.8-2.8 aperture, which means travelers can take portraits with bokeh backdrops and highlight a gourmet dish in low light without compromising quality. The 4.2x optical zoom also promises versatility, whether youāre narrowing in on a red-tailed squirrel or zooming out across Tokyoās Shibuya Crossing. Ā
The 20.1-megapixel sensor captures high-resolution images with realistic colors that require minimal grading or editing time. The single-shot autofocus performs well on stationary subjects, while the built-in āpicture styleā function gives photographers eight presets, including portrait and landscape modes, for experimenting. Ā
Keep in mind: The video capabilities on this travel-friendly camera are noticeably lacking. It only shoots up to 1080p and the film-time is limited to 30 minutes. Ā
The compact Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II is best for travelers who donāt want to invest in (or lug around) high-end mirrorless or DSLR cameras. It works well for beginners and hobbyists who prioritize capturing memories but may want to experiment with creative photography down the road. Ā Ā

To compile our list of best point-and-shoot digital cameras, we pored over online resources, including product descriptions, photography blogs, and YouTube videos. We also incorporated personal knowledge from professional photographer and educator Erin Sullivan and our own work as professional travel photographers and filmmakers. We also considered the following during our analysis: Ā Ā
The type of zoom you need largely depends on how you plan to use your camera. Photographing wildlife or a sports game requires a longer focal length (think at least 200mm). If youāre taking photos of street scenes or architecture, you can get by with a wider focal length of around 35mm. For portraits, try around 50mm. If youāre not sure how you want to use your cameraāor want to capture everythingālook for a versatile zoom that offers wide angle to telephoto. Ā
Megapixels (MP) denote the number of pixels in a cameraās sensor, with each MP used to mark one million pixels. The more pixels, or the higher the megapixel count, the greater the detail in your image. Higher megapixels increase image quality while giving photographers more flexibility to crop in when editing without losing quality. Ā
In addition to megapixel count, several elements play into sensor size. First, large sensors let in more light and create higher-resolution images. Look for sensors that are around an inch or larger. The camera lens design also plays a role. Prime lenses typically produce better quality images. If you need a zoomāwhich is essential for versatility and ideal for travelālook for a lens with a wide aperture across the zoom range, typically around f/2.8-f/4. (However, high-end lens options tend to be more limited with point-and-shoot cameras.) Ā
This back-of-camera eyepiece helps you compose the image, focus on the subject, and navigate settings. Many photographers look through the viewfinder when creating their images; in bright sunlight, the viewfinder can work better than the cameraās LCD screen. However, some point-and-shoot cameras only come with LCD screens, not viewfinders. If you plan to grow as a photographer, you may want a point-and-shoot with a viewfinder. They can help in creating composition and reducing shake. Most higher-end cameras have one. Ā
Flashes can help you create higher-resolution images in low-light conditions, particularly if you donāt have a tripod handy. Most point-and-shoot cameras come with built-in flashes that produce harsh, unflattering light on your subject. Indeed, professional photographers typically use off-camera flashes for a more natural look. Ā
If your goal is to capture a memory around sunset, a built-in flash will help. However, if youāre aiming to photograph a landscape after dusk or before dawn, youāre better off using a tripod and experimenting with long-exposure photography, which is available in the best point-and-shoot cameras. Ā
Nearly all point-and-shoot cameras come with autofocus, which enables the camera to put the most distinct subject into focus automatically. Some higher-end models offer manual focus, which is operated via a ring on the lens that you twist until you achieve the focus you want. For beginners or on-the-go photographers, autofocus usually suffices because manual can take time to perfect in the field. Some digital cameras offer touch focus, which allows you to touch the subject you want in focus on the LCD screen, just like on some smart phones. Itās a quick, in-between option for photographing on the go. Ā
Battery life is another important consideration when choosing a point-and-shoot camera. The higher shots per battery charge, the better. Most point-and-shoot cameras offer around 300 to 400 or more shots. However, more budget-friendly options may dip below that. If you plan on taking a lot of photos on a safari, for example, look for a camera with a longer battery life. If youāre just taking a handful of casual photos here and there, battery life shouldnāt be as much of a concern. Consider a spare or more, however, if you plan to travel. Ā
In addition to the camera and lens, consider add-on purchases like a tripod for stabilization or long-exposure shots, a camera bag for protecting your investment, and extra batteries. Memory cards are also essential, as are cleaning kits with lens wipes. A dry bag is a must for taking a non-weather-resistant camera on an adventure. Ā
With cameras, you largely get what you pay for. Thatās why itās important to know how you want to use your camera. If you hope to capture family memories but care less about large prints or honing your craft, you can find an easy-to-use camera for around $100 to $200. If you want to excel in your craft, consider investing $500 to $1,000 or so on a high-quality point-and-shoot camera. It can be a large investment, but these cameras will help your images stand out and grow with you as you practice. Ā
Whatās the difference between a digital and film point-and-shoot camera Ā .
A digital point-and-shoot camera captures images via an electric sensor, while a film camera cements the images on a strip of film. Digital photography has myriad advantages. Itās significantly less expensive to take heaps of photographs on a memory card than paying for rolls of film, and you can monitor and adjust your work in real time. That said, film photography is making a comeback for its ability to capture rich imagery and aesthetics as well as the slow, intentional process of photographing without real-time feedback. Ā
What you should pay depends largely on what you need out of a camera. If youāre looking for a quick and easy way to record memories, expect to pay around $100 to $200 for a reliable, functional camera. However, lower-priced cameras will have fewer features and image quality will be so-so compared to higher-end devices. For those looking to harness their photography skills or dabble into future careers in the field or to push their creativity to the limit, aim for a camera on the higher end, around $600 to $1,000. Ā
Higher-end cameras, such as mirrorless and DSLRs, typically offer better image quality, versatility for interchangeable lenses, more control over settings, and a better battery life. But todayās point-and-shoots are pushing the envelope of whatās possible. Some photos created with these compact devices rival those shot on higher-end DSLRs or mirrorless cameras. Ā

We love transferable credit card points here at TPG.
The ability to transfer your rewards to a wide range of airline and hotel loyalty programs at a moment's notice provides valuable flexibility to maximize your travel. You're not locked into a single redemption scheme as you plan your trips. If you can't find the seats available in one program, you can choose another program before transferring any credit card points. If a program devalues without notice, you can simply switch to a different program for your next points transfer.
With dozens of different transfer possibilities, it can be difficult to remember just how many options you have.
Here's a handy guide that breaks down which credit card points can be transferred to which airline and hotel programs ā including their respective transfer ratios. We also list our valuation of each transfer partner so you can get the best value to maximize your hard-earned points.
Related: What are points and miles worth? TPG's current monthly valuations
Citi ThankYou Rewards points also transfer to Virgin Red (airlines and hotels) at a 1:1 ratio.
There are a few important notes to highlight regarding these transfer partners:
Finally, except for EVA Air Infinity MileageLands and Finnair Plus, you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to all airline partners listed above at a rate of 3 Bonvoy points to 1 airline point or mile. You will receive an additional 5,000 airline points or miles for every 60,000 Bonvoy points transferred except for the following airline programs: American AAdvantage, Avianca LifeMiles and Delta SkyMiles. Additionally, United MileagePlus awards 10,000 bonus miles for every 60,000 points transferred.

Like airline partners, most hotel transfers are instantaneous, though you can read more in our previously mentioned guides to transfer times for Amex, Bilt, Capital One, Chase, Wells Fargo and Citi.
The best way to earn transferable credit card points is with the right credit card. Here's a look at your best options.

Bilt offers one credit card, the Bilt MastercardĀ® . Cardmembers earn rewards on rent payments (up to 100,000 Bilt Points in a calendar year), 2 points per dollar spent on travel (airfare, hotels, cruises and rental cars) and 3 points per dollar spent on dining. Citi ThankYou Rewards has 18 airline and hotel transfer partners. Currently, only a single card is available that offers transfers to all of these programs: the Citi Strata Premierā Card (see rates and fees ). Note that if you're still holding on to the Citi PrestigeĀ® Card , which is no longer open to new applicants, you also have the full transfer benefits.
However, like Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you can combine your Citi ThankYou Rewards points into a single account for select products. This allows you to effectively convert your fixed-value earnings from cards like the Citi Rewards+Ā® Card (see rates and fees ) or the Citi Double CashĀ® Card (see rates and fees ) into fully transferable ThankYou points.

[dropcap]G[/dropcap]oa is the smallest state of India . And even though all the distances here are relatively short ā itās only about 100 kilometers from North to South ā most of tourists choose not to travel by local bus in Goa. I can understand why. Because they donāt know how theses buses in Goa are operating.
But let me help you to understand it better!
As chaotic as it may look at the beginning, especially if it’s your first time in India,Ā there is nothing too complicatedĀ about local bus system in Goa , I can assure you. I have been using Goa local bus service to travel back and forth all across the state. And in this article Iām going to share with you all the basic things you need to know to take a local bus in Goa .
Why to use public bus service in Goa? How to find the bus you need? Where you can get using local bus in Goa? How to get to and from Goa International airport using public bus? Answers to all these questions you will find in this article.
[x_blockquote type=”left”] TRAVEL INSURANCE: For travelers to India we recommendĀ World Nomads Explorer Package! Ā [/x_blockquote]
Table of Contents
1. itās a very cheap way of getting around in goa.
Price of the ticket ranging from 10 INR (about 0,15 EUR/USD) for a shorter ride to 40 INR for a half across the state journey on an express bus, where everyone has a seat (that’s our experience) and where bus is going directly without any stops.
Using public bus you can get to all the main tourist attractions as well as to most of this stateās beautiful beaches. It will be harder to get to the most secluded ones, though, but sometimes even on a motorcycle you can’t make it all the way to these beaches, as you might need to walk at the end anyway. Think of Cola beach or Butterfly beach, for example.
Even though itās cheap to travel around in Goa by bus, and you can almost everywhere, it may become expensiveĀ in some cases. Especially if you are traveling together with someone, when you could share costs of taxi or tuk-tuk, auto rickshaw. And also when it’s some more distant place where you are going to. In latter also time necessary for a trip may be a point to think about.
For example, getting to Ponda by Goa local bus (most popular spice farms of Goa are there) will cost you only some 20 INR or 0,3 EUR (depends from where you are coming), but a taxi ride from the bus stand to farms, for those few last kilometers, could be around 200 INR or more. Maybe it’s better to take a taxi for the whole trip? Maybe.
But again, you can walk to these spice farms. It’s not that far away.
So be smart and do some calculations ā both of time and money – before refusing offer of a taxi driver willing to take you to [ put here a name of any attraction or place you want to get to ] straight from your beach shack or hotel. It might be overpriced as hell, but it may be alsoĀ the best deal you could possibly get .
[x_blockquote type=”left”] BEST HOTELS IN: Baga , Calangute , Vagator , Palolem .[/x_blockquote]
Most of the buses in Goa are old. So it gets pretty hot inside as there are no fans or air conditioners. And mostly it’s also a very bumpy ride, too, haha. But what could be even more important for you is that most of them donāt run before 7 AM and after 7 PM.
So, yes, local bus service in Goa in most of places starts at about 7 AM, but after 7 PM it could be tricky to find a bus.
So here you are, standing on the side of the road. Bus is coming in the right direction, but you are not sure if itās the one you need. Not a problem!
Raise your hand, the bus will stop (not all of them, though) and you will have a chance to ask the bus conductor, if the bus is going to a place where you need to get to. Most probably bus conductor will be the one who will open the doors for you. If there is no bus conductor just ask anyone near the doors or the driver.
Local buses in Goa connect most of the stateās cities and villages.
There are buses of state transport corporation and then there are private buses. Last ones are those which will stop to pick you up wherever you will be standing. And schedule of those buses for most of the time is written just by the doors of the bus .
Though, all you will see there is the time of departure from one and another end of the route. Anyway, it gives you an idea when and how often you can expect it coming.
Once you enter the bus, find a seat, if there is a free one, and sit down. After some time bus conductor will come to you and you will buy a ticket . In private buses mostly it means, that you will pay money and thatās it. No one will issue any ticket.
At the same time, when using shuttle bus service in Goa, operating between stateās largest cities Ā – Panjim, Margao and Vasco da Gama, you need to buy a ticket at the ticket counter before getting on the bus . From our experience, shuttle bus starts to drive once all the seats are taken. And then arrives the next bus. So don’t worry if you miss a bus!
Speaking about Goa local bus timing most of the buses in Goa are running between 7 AM to 7 PM .
Your chances of getting anywhere triples once you are in one of the bus stations. So go there first, especially if you are in some village right now, and look for the right bus from there. Biggest bus stations in Goa are ā Mapusa, Panjim, Vasco da Gama, Margao (known also as Madgaon) and Canacona.
Look around and if you canāt find any bus going in direction where you need, ask any of the bus conductors, and they will help you. Chances are pretty high, that once out of the firstĀ bus you will be approached by one of the conductors from some another bus asking you where you want to go next.
As annoying as it may feel at first (thinking about all these taxi drivers asking meĀ where I amĀ going), these men at bus stations of Goa have been nothing else than a huge help to us. As a result not even once we have been looking for the next bus for more than 5 minutes. Because there always was someone, who could show us where to look for it.
Using local bus in Goa you can get almost everywhere. And that includes also most of the tourist attractions, beaches of Goa, as well as Goa International Airport.
Here Iāll give you an example with few popular tourist attractions in Goa and how to get to them.
Go to Margao and take a bus to Canacona or directly to Palolem beach. Canacona bus station is about 3 kilometers from the beach. You can get to the beach either taking an auto rickshaw or motorcycle taxi, the last one isĀ the cheapest option.
Go to Margao or Panjim and take a bus to Ponda. Last few kilometres you can either walk, take a taxi, auto rickshaw or motorcycle taxi. There are two spice plantations nearby ā Sahakari Spice Farm being the closest one and Tropical Spice Plantation further away from Ponda. Bathing with elephants is possible in both of these places.
How to get from Panjim to Calangute? It’s very easy since there are direct buses from Panaji to Calangute.
Getting from Panjim to Baga beach is the same as easy. Because both beaches – Calangute and Baga – are next to each other. There are direct buses from Panjim to Calangute. Depending on where exactly in Baga you want to get you may need to walk or take a tuk-tuk or taxi.
In order to bet from Panjim to Anjuna beach you need to take a bus from Panjim to Mapusa, and then there is a bus Mapusa – Anjuna.
Once on Anjuna beach you can take a boat for about 100 INR to get to the Baga beach . As Calangute beach is next toĀ Baga beach, you can walk there.
In order to bet from Panjim to Vagator beach you first need to take a bus from Panjim to Mapusa, and from there there are buses going to Vagator.
To get from Madgaon to Calangute, go to Panjim (Panaji) first. There are both regular and express buses. From Panjim there are direct buses to Calangute.
To get from Madgaon to Baga beach, go to Panjim (Panaji) first. As already mentioned, there are both regular and express buses from Madgaon to Panjim. From Panjim there are direct buses to Calangute. And Baga is next to Calangute. We can also say that it’s the same beach, only different part of it.
It will take some time to get from Madgaon to Anjuna beach, as there are no direct buses. Take a bus from Madgaon to Panjim, then ā Panjim to Mapusa, then Mapusa – Anjuna.
Same like with Madgaon – Anjuna, getting from Madgaon to Vagator beach will take more time, as there are no direct buses. Take a bus from Madgaon to Panjim, then ā Panjim to Mapusa, then Mapusa – Vagator.
Go to Margao. Take a bus to Panjim, then take a bus from Panjim to Old Goa. If you are in Panjim already, it’s even better for you. And, here you are, in Old Goa.
There are no buses leaving right from the Margao (Madgaon) railway station.
But if you are ready to walk for about 10 minutes, here’s where is the nearest place they are leaving from – Google Maps .Ā Standing next to Hotel Raviraj, situated close to the overpass, you’ll be able to catch buses going in both directions.
The ones going north most probably will stop at Madgaon bus station where you’ll have to change the bus.
Go to Margao or Panjim. Take a bus to Vasco da Gama, but not the shuttle bus this time, as they donāt have any stops between the cities. AndĀ you will need to get out in between, because the airport is few kilometers before Vasco da Gama.
To make sure, that you will get toĀ the airport, when getting into the bus ask conductor or driver if the bus is going to the Airport!
It total this ride to Goa International Airport will cost you about 10 times less than with taxi or moto rickshaw.
I hope no.Ā Anyway, if you have any questions, do not hesitate and ask them here in the comments or in any other ways!
I remember reading about public transport in India prior to our first tripĀ to India, in autumn 2013. Every time I stumbled upon some article or forum thread about public transport in India, I read the same thing ā it’s impossible for a touristĀ toĀ use local buses in India.
Because you donāt know, when and where to expect them. True, not always itās easy to find a bus stand or bus stop, but itās far from impossible if you ask locals. And the fact, that many of them stop in between the stops, may lead to confusion as well.
What else I read is –Ā these buses are so full all the time, that you canāt even get it. Even more – because Indians will fill it up before you will notice that the bus is approaching you. Iām sure you have heard about it. Yeah, in Goa itās not like in Hong Kong , where people are waiting in queues to take a bus and they donāt even get in if there is no free seat left, taking a bus in India isnāt too hard either.
Prepare for your trip to Goa by reading also these:
This was really helpful.
Hope all your experience and finding works for me.
Sir, Which bus we have to take from madgaon railway station to airport.
A bus going to Vasco da Gama. Ask driver or conductor to stop near the airport.
I want to know whether there is any connectivity to morjim in goa of local buses.
There are bus stops in Morjim. Probably you can get a bus to Mapusa.
There is new airconditioned bus service from Madgaon to airport and is reasonably priced.
Sir which bus I can prefer from airport to sinQ beach resort, Calangute?
I have read that now there is a direct shuttle bus from the airport to Calangute beach for 150 INR. I haven’t used it.
If you use a regular bus it can be difficult, because there are no direct buses. You need to walk a little bit – maybe 5-10 minutes, to get to the highway. From there you can catch a bus going to Vasco da Gama. From there – a bus to Panjim or directly to Calangute.
It’s very helpful. Thanks
You’re welcome :)
Thank you for these bus information in goa.where do you stay in each place can i know.
You’re welcome! I have stayed in 3 places – 1 week in apartment near Benaulim, 1 month in apartment near Carmona beach, 1 month in Lazy Frog Hotel near Carmona. Lazy Frog is a great hotel for good price, best budget hotel in India where I have been (I’ve stayed in about 100 places).
Hey Kaspars! Thank you for this article. I was wondering if there was a bus service from near Madgaon Railway station to Anjuna? Which bus would that be?
I’m not sure if there is a direct bus. Go to Madgaon bus station and ask. But there definitely is a bus to Mapusa or Panjim, from where you’ll get a bus to Anjuna.
Thanks for this helpful artical, It will be really helpful if you give us some info about any prepaid taxi or any other way to reach arpora from panjim in term of fares. I have heared that taxi’s are supre high in fare even for small distence , my hotel is arround 19 km from panjim , I am travelling with my family and looking for a point to point trip. thanks in advance.
I’m glad it’s helpful. In my opinion your best bet would be to ask around – ask taxi or tuktuk drivers about prices. You can do it already few days in advance, so you get to know prices. We have traveled some 20 kilometers (from Colva to the airport) for around 500 INR. In places like Colva they have price list printed out and visible for everyone. So you know, how much all the most popular routes will cost you.
For 3 people or more taxi most probably will be better choice, also price-wise.
Sir how can i reach thivim railways station from calangute
Take a bus to Mapusa. And from there ask for a bus to Thivim (maybe you will need to walk 5-10 minutes in the end, if there is no direct bus).
What is the best way to reach south goa from callangute?
Thanks for thus blog. Very nice. Do you know if it s easy to go to baga beach from the air port bu bus ?
Thank you! Iām not sure how is it now. I hear there is direct bus from the airport to Calangute, and thatās next beach to Baga.
Otherwise you need to leave the airport, go to the road and get a bus to Panjim or Vasco da Gama first. And then from there a bus to Baga. This option will be uncomfortable if you have a lot of luggage.
Thank you for this. 1)Can you tell me which bus I take to go to Flying Lotus Tattoo from St. Michael’s church? 2) where do I catch the bus? Flying Lotus is on the way to Arambol. St. Michael’s is in Anjuna. Thank you in advance.
Sorry, I missed your question! Don’t know about this particular region, where exactly there are the nearest bus stops. I would just ask the locals.
Thank you for the help full article.. I want to know the bus route for travelling from palolem beach to anjuna beach. how many buses I need to change and is there ant direct connectivity?? Thanks in advance
I’m happy to hear that! I’m not 100% sure about this, but try – Palolem – Margao – Mapusa – Anjuna. So 3 buses most probably.
Kaspars your article is very very helpful…please suggest sm nice n clean beech in south goa..also sm affordable hotel ..
Anand, if you want to go to a peaceful area I recommend to look for something between Benaulim and Mobor. Lazy Frog Goa is a very good hotel near Carmona beach. It’s more expensive than the cheapest hotels, but it’s very much worth the price.
how do i reach by bus from madgaon railway station to mobor beach
Either walk to bus station and take direct bus to Mobor or wait for the bus at the train station. Only ask someone where do busses go.
Want to commute from Mapusa to Thivim railway Station (reach by 10.00 am) in morning hours.
Kindly provide details.
You’ll need to ask at your hotel or go to the bus station and ask there, because we don’t know it for sure. There might be a bus going there. Or you’ll need to either walk or take a rickshaw.
how to reach candolim beach from thivim railway station from bus in morning 6 am
Bus stop is some 5-10 minute walk away from railway station. There you’ll be able to get a bus to Mapusa. And from Mapusa to Calangute, which is right next to Candolim.
Hi, I have small query how frequent buses available from Karmali Railway Station to South Goa (colva beach) and is bus station on walking distance from railway station?
Hi! You’ll have to ask about that in the station.
how to reach agonda beach from north goa?
Easiest (but not the fastest) way woould be to go to Palolem first. And from Palolem you can take a bus to Agonda. You can read about getting to Palolem in the article.
Thank you for writing this. Very useful!
My pleasure.
Is there bus available to reach cola beach from madgaon?
2 years ago there was no direct bus. I don’t remember for sure, but I think we first took a bus to Canacona and from there a bus to Cola.
Great article. I am travelling to Goa on 31st March. Is there any bus from ‘Goa Airport’ to ‘Baga Beach’ around 5.30 PM?
Hi! I haven’t tried it myself, but I hear that there is a direct bus from the airport to Calangute. Calangute is next to Baga. I’m pretty sure you should have no problems to get one at 5:30 PM.
Thanks for Useful Information, Sir Can u help me Which bus from GOA Air Port to Panjim at Evening 5.15 pm & Travel Time Please .
You can take a bus going from the airport to Calangute, and get out in Panjim.
Very useful information…do you have any idea what is the convinient way to reach zalor from madgoa. Also are there any bus service from zalor to mapusa?
There’s a bus to Fatrade & Zalor from Mapusa bus station. To get to Mapusa you’ll have to take a bus to Margao and from there a bus to Mapusa.
Hey kapars hi, thanks for the article, it is very useful. now tell me, in Panjim where should i get local buses to reach calangute
You’re welcome! Search for Panjim Bus Stand on Google Maps, and you’ll find where it is.
Sir how can we go from madgaon ktc bus stand to railway station? Is there any local bus services available??
Yes, take any bus going to South Goa (Benaulim, Colva, Mobor, Zalor, Canacona,…). But to be on the safe side ask the conductor/driver if they will be passing railway station. Most of them are passing by railway station.
Hi Is there any local buses from panjim to vasco da gama railway station. Regards, shivaraj
Hi sir, pls.suhgest is there a direct bus to reach to Pissurlem Goa from madgaon?
Hi! I don’t know. Because I haven’t been there myself and there are no information anywhere online or offline on all routes. At the bus station you can ask and they will defintely tell you which bus to take.
Can you suggest best, clean and less crowded beach in Goa for monsoon season ?
All beaches in the south are going to be less busy than the ones in the north. Not sure about cleanliness, though. As in my opininon all of them get the same as dirty during the monsoon… It’s just my experience, though.
Hello! Thanks for sharing this informative article. My question is do we have any bus service from Madgaon Railway station to Sinquerim, Candolim beach area?
My pleasure! There are no any buses right from the bus station. Here in this article I have marked a place on Google Maps where is the nearest place where any bus stops. You can take a bus going to Calangute/Baga. But you may need to go to Panjim and possibly Mapusa first.
Hi Kaspars, Your article is very informative. We are going Goa this month. Hope this will be useful during our stay in goa.
My pleasure!
Sir how do i reach calangute beach from vasco da gama railway station.
Sir, are there direct buses from panjim bus stand to candolim beach?
You can take a bus going to Calangute. It’s close.
you are great man……. really great. From latvia guiding indians in india.
Thank you! :) I’m happy to share my knowledge.
Sir,can i get bus from Madgaon Railway Station to Colva at 6AM?
On a workday and Saturday – maybe, but you might need to wait some time, on Sunday – most probably no and you may need to wait for more than an hour.
Sir, can I get a bus from Castel Rock to Vasco or Madgaon , how much is travel time & frequency?
Unfourtunately I don’t know about buses between Karnataka and Goa.
Hi . On 1st may , labour day , do buses run ?
I’m not sure. But I would suppose that yes, like on any holiday. Only less frequent, probably.
How I can reach from Colva beach to Calangute. I will be in calangute from 2712/18 to 30/12/18 and then from 30/12/18 to 01/01/18 at Calangute annexe. So, How I may plan my visits.
You can go from Colva to Margao (Madgaon), and then take a bus from there to Calangute. You might need to take a bus from Margao to Panjim first, if there are no direct buses.
I m planning to take a bus from Calangute to Mapusa and from there to vagator tomorrow. As its Sunday, will it be hard for me to find a bus tomorrow?
There are less buses on Sundays, but you should be able to get one anyway.
Hi Kaspars, I’m in Porvorim, near Mall de Goa. Would you know if buses stopping along (there’s a bus stop or two on that stretch) there go to Candolim?
Yes, there is a bus stop next to the mall, maybe 1-minute walk away. From there you can get to Mapusa, and from there to Candolim.
CAN WE GET THE LOCAL BUS FROM AIRPORT TO BAGA AT 9.10 PM ???
I would assume, that no. But ask at the airport once you arrive.
Is there a bus service from Airport to Benaulim…….Thanks for your response in advance.
How to reach karmali station from benaulim by bus? Plz suggest.
Thnx Kaspars Misins. Great work. Could you please help with the name of bus stops of major routes? Some kind of time table.
Unfourntunately, but you can’t find any timetables online. Major bus stops are bus stations mentioned in the article. By far most of the stops don’t have any stop sign, so you just have to know where to wait for the bus. Or just stand by the side of the road.
Hi,How do we get local buses from Thivim to Anjuna Beach in cheaper price.
I have booked a hotel at calagunte beach. Can I get a bus to go to River cruise evening and back to hotel.
Great work, helped me a lot.
Thanks for the feedback! :)
Sir how can I go calangute to madgoan railway station
You can find the answer in this article.
Really useful, thanks! I don’t ride scooters, travel alone and it is costing a lot to pay for all these taxis. One question, what about luggage, is it possible and safe to take luggage in the bus? I’d like to go from Mapusa to Madgaon. So I’d need to transfer in Panjim. Is the train a better option? Thank you so much!
Thank you for the kind words! :) It just might be difficult to get on the bus if you have too much luggage. Otherwise – it’s as safe as walking on the street :) I would go for the bus instead of train. In my opinion that’s a better option.
Hi Kaspars, I would like to have your suggestion for best possible options for our below trip on Local bus planned next month. Day-1 Morning 6:00 AM – Thivim Railway Station to Calangute / Calangute BEach… Day-2 Morning 11:00 AM – Calangute/Calangute BEach to Colva Beach Day-2 Evening 7:00 PM – Colva Beach to Madgaon Railway Station
Also appreciate if you can let me know the frequency of BUses and expected duration for each of the above trips..
Thanks…..
I’m not sure about number 1. You might need to wait for an hour or so. There are no timetables, so it’s hard to predict. Locals just know the times approximately (I also learn after a while after staying there longer). But as they may change it’s hard to predict anything.
Number 2 shouldn’t be a problem.
Number 3 – ask locals, when is the last bus. Maybe you would need to go a bit earlier.
Hi Kaspars, I would like to have your suggestion for best possible Local bus for below route: Day-1 ā Colva to Arpora Day-2 ā Arpora to Immaculate Conception Church Day-2 – Immaculate Conception Church to Bessilica of Bom Jesus Day-2 – Bessilica of Bom Jesus to Arpora Day-2 – Arpora to Panji Day-3 – Arpora to Dabolin Airport
Hi kaspars! Lovely article. I’m reaching madgaon station at 4 30 am. I need to reach bambolim from there to join my friends who are staying at an Airbnb. Can you suggest any cheap mode of transport at that time?
Hi! Motorbike taxi will be the cheapest mode of transportation this early. Or maybe a tuk tuk.
Hi, How to reach morjim from panaji?
Hi. There are a couple of options. Check out the “Getting there” section: https://www.travel-india-goa-guide.com/morjim_beach.html
Mr. Misins,
Thank you for the much needed info!
Are there local buses from Goa to Gokarna? A friend of mine is reaching Goa airport quite early in the morning and needs to take a bus to reach Gokarna. We looked at train timings and they clash with the flight timings. Taxis are too expensive for one single person. Hence, local bus is the only option.
Go to Margao bus station and get a bus to Karwar (hourly). From Karwar you can take another bus, to Gokarna. Unfortunately the bus schedule isn’t available online. Safe travels!
Good afternoon
I’m portuguese, and my boyfriend has just traveled with this bus a few hours ago (from Goa to Mapusa) and is luggage was lost (or stolen). He lost over 1000ā¬ of paragliding material he had inside it. He couldn’t stay because he has to catch the plane on time at mumbai tomorrow, so he had to follow his trip. I’m trying to contact the bus company, but I can’t reach any phone number or email. Do you have any you could give me please?
Can you please reply to my email address?
Thank you so much. We are kinda desperate.
I sent you an email.
Hi, I was wondering if there were bus facilities to places like Aguada Fort and Chapora Fort as well?
To get to Aguada fort take a bus to Sinquerim (from Panaji). If I remember correctly one has to walk to get to the fort as the stop is not in front of the fort.
There also should be regular bus to Chapora fort as well. Also from Panaji.
I wanted to know if there are any bus services available from Goa airport to Bogmallo beach resort as the taxi service is costing 900-1000 for return trip.
I am not sure about the Goa airport but you can get a bus to Bogmalo from Vasco da Gama which is a city not too far away from the airport. You can get there by a local bus from the airport.
Sir which bus i can prefer for parra to mapusa taxi stand.
There should be a local bus from Baga to Mapusa bus stand. Unfortunately, I don’t know where exactly the bus stop in Parra is. The taxi stand in Mapusa is not far away from the bus stand. You can walk there. It takes a few minutes.
Hi, please help me on this.. I want to travel from thivim railway station to Calangute or Anjuna.. how I do get local bus for these sector.

Hello there, Please do let me know if there is a direct bus from Madgaon to Assagaon.
I don’t know for sure.
how to get to Arambol(Harmal) beach from Pernem or Thivim using local transport.
HI Kaspars,
Thank you for your article. I was seeking some further advice: I need to get from Goa Airport to Palolem. My plane lands at: 7:45 AM on Thursday. According to your article, I would have to go to Margoa and then catch a bus to Palolem / Canacona.
(A) How can I get to Margoa from the airport? (B) Do you recommend going by bus vs taxi for this trip?
Would you also know how to get from Palolem to Calangute beach during the day?
(A) How can this be done by bus (or by train)?
Advice much appreciated.
A) A bus will be cheaper, but you will have to walk to the road. And then take a bus going from Vasco da Gama to Margao.
B) It’s up to you. Bus ride is maybe 10x cheaper, but do you want to use simple local bus and wait on the side of the road.
Excellent blog, it was very helpful during my trip last week. Thank you!
Cool :) Thanks for kind words.
Very handy, thanks a lot. Got here 2 days ago and already using them. Great respect towards woman as solo travellers. Cheers
Cool! I’m glad it was useful for you :)
Hey, I need to reach madgao junction at 2:00 AM. Are there any reasonable options available? Or, for that matter, any option available at this time other than UBER? I’ll be travelling from Vasco Da Gama.
Only taxi or a motorbike taxi. Probably you’ll have to arrange it beforehand, as it’s during the night.
The last time we were in Goa (last year), there was no Uber.
Hey, How can we go to baga beach from mapusa by local bus? can you please help me to get bus name, number i have to get into? Thanks
There is a bus to Baga beach. Go to Mapusa bus station. There are no bus numbers, just ask around for the right bus.
