The Travellers Rest

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

In this world of cororate alcohol dispensaries it has become harder to find a real, traditional British inn but here is a perfect example of that rarity. Wonderful location opposite woodland and countryside walks through lush farmland, dog friendly (another rairty) , great range of... hand pulled cask ales, wide selection of wines and spirits, ice cold lagers, perfectly pulled Guinness and delicious home cooked food. Top it all with a pub full of atmosphere, friendly regulars, great staff and a Landlady and Landlord who know exactly how to treat their customers well. If you have not visited yet, now is the time to! More

My wife and I (as previously commented) now visit the Travellers Rest on a semi regular basis. Beer is of a high standard, and choice of lagers, etc very good. The food is excellent, and good value. Aside from the usual array of pub favourites,... the (boxed) Pizzas are awesome. I have raved about pizzas in several of my reviews, some in the uk, and some overseas. I now find the highest of standards and top 5 pizzas are available on my doorstep (fresh ingredients, home made base). Like pizza? Like the Travellers :) More

Visited on Monday and booked sane table for Friday on arrival people sitting eating at table we had booked . Accepted apology by barnan until table who left spoke to barmaid on 1st name terms. Pkease don't treat paying customers as fools you obviously gave... table to regulars. More

We booked as a family of 4 to go for a roast dinner. Was thinking it would be lovely home cooked food but it was the opposite. I had a beef roast dinner. Vegetables where all watery -frozen and The beef looked like it was... out of a packet. My partner had the chicken dinner and the chicken was so dry he could hardly eat it. The roast potato's had to be aunt bessies frozen ones. Nothing fresh and home cooked about it. It could be really improved as it’s such a gorgeous home feel cosy pub, but the food didn’t match that vibe at all. On a plus side it was £9 give or take per meal so wasn’t overly expensive but we didn’t know the price per meal before we went. We would of preferred to pay more for a better quality, more enjoyable meal More

I’ve been here mid week and it has been great because I can take my dog in. But went today (Saturday) and there appears to be all new staff or at least different to my last few visits. When I sat at my table I... noticed it was sticky and dirty. On the table next to me a girl spilled some of her food on the table, she did a quick wipe with her serviette so it didn’t look too bad. When they left, the barman removed their plates and glasses and put some more condiments on the table. Not only did he not spray the table, he didn’t even wipe it. I thought he’d come back to it but no. I watched two further groups of people leave and watched the barman repeat the exact thing, not even a cloth in hand. New customers arrived and sat at these tables and I just wondered to myself if I was being fussy or is it because when we had Covid about, we were concerned about hygiene but now it’s gone, so have the standards. More

Great in here. We live locally and wander up for a pint or two and some food quite often. Usually get the nachos and there is plenty to keep two people happy. Loads of salsa etc which is usually my gripe with other places. Great... atmosphere. Dog friendly too. Tried a pizza the other day and it was lovely, my only tip to improve would be to swap cheddar for mozzarella. More

We came across The travellers Rest after a walk in the woods. The bar staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food is excellent & value for money. Highly recommend the lasagna or beef pie, large portions and delicious. The pub is very dog friendly,... with water bowls and treats available. Beer is well kept. Overall a very good pub with excellent food More

We booked a Christmas party for 17 of us on Saturday. We were allocated a side room next to the bar. All went really well, food, drinks, table decs and service superb. Good genuine, no nonsense pub. Thoroughly recommend.

Partially refurbished during the Covid lockdown, the Travellers is vastly improved. First and foremost as a pub, the choice and quality of ales is impressive, (likewise all beers, lagers and wine) the food is very good, quality pub grub. Our visits have increased 4X since... lockdown, and will continue. More

Ok for drinks. The bar staff are attentive and good. The quiz man however made me uncomfortable. Every week at the quiz he would tell everyone on the microphone how he would smash all the women on the picture round. I just sat there disgusted.... He does the quiz with his wife, and other family members and he says things like that? When it came to the tickets. One of them was a pink ticket and he kept saying "i love a pink rim". The man was a creep and looked like one aswell. Also the pub is so old fashioned and is suited to decades ago when everyone was thinner. Now most people are obese or overweight, one huge man was blocking the way out. It was a health and safety hazard to be honest. I put a review on here because the owner takes offence to any constructive criticism, just look at the reviews on google More

Another great visit from 8000 miles away to this absolute gem of a traditional English Inn! As usual a warm and friendly welcome from Gill, Keith and all the staff. The customers are friendly too and add to the great atmosphere. The menu is extensive... and home cooked and while a small wait might not suit those people who are happier and more suited to eating chicken nuggets at a fast food restaurant, the true connoisseur of good fare will more than appreciate the end result! What is the tastiest menu item? Impossible to say but the fish and chips take some beating! Simply the best I have ever eaten! More

4 of us took my mum for her 67th birthday in early Feb. We're not "locals" but we live local and the Travs has always been good for lunch so we thought we'd try an evening meal. Small-ish menu but there was a nice sounding... mixed grill on there. We were told it wasn't available so we ordered 3 steaks and a Thai chicken curry. Can't complain about the steaks but we ordered 3 x posh sauces which didn't arrive. When we asked about them, we were brought 1 very small pot of weird gravy-granules-mustard sauce and told "that's 3 portions!". Ok, it's not the end of the world. Until our friend eating the Thai curry bit into a piece of tough wrapping plastic in his meal. We mentioned it all to the nice girl who was serving and she just said "I'm so sorry". That was it. Genuine review from a genuine Bebington resident. I brought my old Mum there for a nice time and they let us down. Sorry. More

I have had a brilliant night at the Travs. We have had lovely food that is of a really high standard of quality and the service was excellent . My husband wants to say the ale is well kept with a good range. We will... definitely be visiting again. The staff looked after us really well and the atmosphere in here is kind and welcoming. It’s a rare find that you can still visit a pub that doesn’t have that corporate feel and has kept it originality. More

If you like simple home cooked wholesome food served in generous portion sizes by friendly staff backed up by all the usual drink choices but especially 6 top quality real ales look no further. One of my favourite Wirral pubs - am grateful I live... too far from it to walk there as it would then see too much of me! Roaring fires in winter are another attraction. Large TV in the bar area showing sport with sound muted is a concession to modern life that is forgivable given that everything else is just what a pub should be. More

I went here with friends for lunch. It’s very hit and miss with the food depending who’s on. I wouldn’t recommend going here, most of the staff are pleasant but the owner Keith does not like anyone giving constructive criticism. If the food is poor... and you complain he is not happy. Shame really as if he listen to his customers then they might come back. The young lady with the blond hair in the kitchen is very rude and her food prep is very poor , I can only presume she must be Keith’s daughter, relative or family friend. If she was just employed , I think she would have been sacked by now. I would do yourself a favour and go somewhere with better customer service and better food. More

I was more than delighted to have a very good dining experience with my wife & son in what is our local. Despite drinking in the Travellers for over 30 years, I have rarely dined there (mainly due to the fact that until recently food... More

Typical old fashioned pub which could do with freshening up (but still keeping the atmosphere, after all it is an old site). Positives include the surprisingly good food, fairly quick service, good range of beers. Negatives include staff need to come across as welcoming and... More

I had had many lovely meals here over the last year , but the last time we visited the quality was poor . So much so we have decided to draw a line under it and have switched to new local Indian restaurant instead

More

Really enjoyed our meal last Monday lunchtime. Staff were really helpful and friendly. We didn't have to wait long at all.

Enjoy poping inn. Great now food times extended. Great range of beers. Layout great for couples and small groups

Having lived in the area all our lives and having passed it hundreds of times, we decided to go for a midday meal at the the Travellers Rest, once just a pub but now serving meals as well. A good decision. Very friendly host. Lovely atmosphere. A typical olde worlde place. Food was great for us all with no complaints. I enjoyed my homemade apple pie. I wanted to try a new beer, and without hesitation the host offered me a sample in a glass to see if I would like a full pint. Prices are also very good. We will certainly go back..

Great food but make sure you don't eat all day as the portion are big . All home made food . Had steak pie served with chips and veg it was to big to eat . Well worth the money the team and customer serves is brilliant can not fault them . The range of cask ale is also good .
