Trek Verve 2 Review: Is It Worth Buying
What is the trek verve 2 review?
The Trek Verve 2 hybrid bike is made for convenience and enjoyment on errand runs, road trips, and fitness rides. A suspension seatpost, a padded saddle, and weather-resistant disc brakes are just a few of the thoughtful features that contribute to a secure and comfortable ride.
Please continue reading so I can give you more specific information about the Trek Verve 2 review.
Table of Contents
Trek Verve 2 Review
Frame review.
According to me, the frame accounts for roughly 70% of the bike’s appearance and feel, so it should be taken into account when making a purchase decision. The Alpha Gold Aluminum frame on the Trek Verve 2 represents the pinnacle of aluminum engineering for Trek bicycles.
The frame guarantees a solid ride while still feeling very light and forgiving while riding. The first time you test-ride this bike, you’ll quickly realize how important this is.
The bike has a shorter reach than other traditional fitness bikes because the comfort of the rider is given top priority when designing the frame. This also makes sure that you are riding this thing in a more upright position, which is suitable if you have ever experienced back, neck, or shoulder problems.
You can also easily look around while changing lanes or crossing streets when you’re standing up straight.
Fork Review
This bike has a steel threaded steerer tube and a Verve alloy fork for excellent handling. The frame’s inclusion of a ThruSkew axle is yet another surprise to me. This guarantees that your front wheel won’t come off while you’re riding and makes it simple and quick to access your front wheel.
The absence of a suspension is one of the choices in this new model with which I disagree. As a front suspension is something you would anticipate on a comfort hybrid bike like this one. But as it turns out, the suspension on a bike like this doesn’t really increase comfort as much as you might think.
Since this is a hybrid, you won’t be required to perform jumps or ride on trails as frequently, and riding upright means your weight is distributed more toward the back of the bike. Additionally, in order to significantly benefit from a front suspension, you would need to ride more aggressively and shift your weight forward, which is not in the best interest of a comfort bike.
But at this price, the Trek Marlin 5 will be a great option if you’re looking for something that can be used for both regular commutes and trail runs.
Additionally, you can lighten the bike up and make it more comfortable by removing the front suspension. You won’t experience any significant shocks with this fork as long as you stay on well-paved roads and ground limestone, and it has an adjustable suspension seat post and a taller stack.
Drivetrain Review
The drivetrain of Trek Verve 2 consists of
- Shimano Altus M315 8×3 shifters
- Forged alloy 3 speed 48/38/28 crank with a Shimano Tourney TY710 front derailleur
- 8 speed 11-32 Shimano HG31 cassette with a Shimano Altus M310 read derailleur
You can see that the drivetrain on this bike is made entirely of Shimano parts. It’s advantageous because it avoids the need for additional tuning and other brand-specific compatibility problems. Shimano is regarded as the best for drivetrain components and is used and adored by the top athletes worldwide, which should give you peace of mind if you are new to cycling.
You will have a wide range of speeds to choose from for any gradient thanks to the 8×3 setup. As they allow a full stroke, easier gears are ideal for riders who have been away from bikes for a long time or for those who are attempting to recover from leg injuries.
Handlebar And Stem Review
This hybrid bike has a 620mm/660mm wide alloy handlebar from Trek’s own brand Bontrager, whose products are well-known. You’ll see a lot of Bontrager components in the following. This particular handlebar has a comfort sweep, giving it a subtle “M” shape similar to what you typically see on a comfort cruiser.
Because the stem part includes a Bontrager alloy quill, you can effectively adjust the handlebar rise into any of the 64 degrees it allows. This makes the stem part a little unique. The stem is also longer—85mm or 105mm, depending on the size you choose—which is typical for road and commuter bikes because it gives you more room to turn.
Seatpost And Saddle Review
The adjustable suspension seatpost that is included with the Trek Verve 2 is made of alloy, and it is a key component of the extra comfort that it provides when riding upright. For those road bumps and shocks, this has an adjustable range of up to 27mm.
The ride quality is flawless and is undoubtedly one of the most praised aspects of the bike, along with the Bontrager Boulevard comfort saddle. Longer rides are very comfortable because of the extensive cushioning.
Brakes Review
You are fortunate in this regard because, up until a few years ago, the Trek Verve 2 only had rim brakes. Trek made a wise decision to upgrade to hydraulic disc brakes from Tektro HD-M275, giving rise to the name Trek Verve 2 Disc. which are much better in every way and more trustworthy. Even in wet conditions, where rim brakes are dangerous to operate, they function flawlessly.
Additionally, they have the highest stopping power, which is extremely helpful when you are carrying more weight. Hydraulic disc brakes have the added benefit of being very simple to use and maintain over time, which is another advantage over mechanical ones.
Wheels Review
The front and rear hubs are both made of Formula DC 6-bolt alloy (DC-20 in the front and DC-22 in the back). For a stiffer ride and greater overall strength of the wheels, Bontrager Connection rims are double-walled and made of aluminum alloy.
The Bontrager H5 Comps, 700x45c stock tires that come with this bike are wider than those you’d find on a road bike but not as much as those on a mountain bike. On well-paved roads and gravel, which is typically the case for commuting and recreational riding, they roll fairly well.
Because of these wider tires, the lack of front suspension is concealed. Since there are no power losses when pedaling, getting rid of the suspension allows for better energy transmission on the road.
Weight Review
A size medium Trek Verve 2 weighs 30.26 lbs, or 13.73 kg, and can support a rider weight of 300 lbs, or roughly 136 kg, plus any cargo.
Sizes And Colors Review
This is a typical Trek bike and is available in 4 sizes: S, M, L, and XL. Below is a table with the Trek Verve 2 size chart and geometry.
Both the stunning colors Lithium Grey and Rage Red are available for this bike.

Customers’ Review To Trek Verve 2
Excellent bike.
In my early 20s and throughout graduate school, I was an avid rider. After that, I became preoccupied with other tasks, and my bike washed up on the side. I was anxious to start riding again because I wasn’t certain that it would be comfortable or that I would still enjoy it as much as I did in the past. I chose the Verve 2 bike after doing some research and don’t regret it. The bike is enjoyable and comfortable to ride. I wish I hadn’t waited so long and am looking forward to my time spent hiking. But the real test is: Would I buy another bike if this one broke tomorrow? Yes, right away. I am incredibly pleased with the purchase, and the Bicycle Garage’s staff in Bloomington was wonderful. fantastic overall experience
The Best Bike I Have Ever Owned Is This One.
I’ve switched between a road bike, mountain bike, hybrid bike, and now the Verve 2 Disk. I have discovered the ideal fusion of comfort and speed at the age of 66. At the end of a 26-mile ride, I can get off the bike pain-free thanks to the upright position and simple gear transition. I now want to ride again because that truly makes a difference. This bike will accompany me until dusk. PS: I got lucky that Gateway Cycle in North Saint Paul had this Verve 2 Disc in Gray in stock. I rode it for a short distance as a test drive before bringing it home.
I Adore This Bike Utterly…
I just picked up my new Verve 2 Disc this morning and went for a 6 mile ride. I love it so much! I have been riding a recumbent exercise bike ever since this whole Covid thing started, so I made the decision to get another bike and enjoy the summer. I’m a 58-year-old man who is currently trying to get back in shape. I’ve had issues with various other styles of bikes in the past, but this bike is comfortable on my knees and shoulders. Despite having a factory saddle, the bike is surprisingly comfortable, light, and agile. If you’re looking for a comfortable and casual form of exercise, stop right here! I’m hoping you’ll adore yours too!
Does Not Age Well
To go along with a Specualized Sirrus that I had bought in 2013, I bought this bike in early 2021. I rode both of them over the past year (roughly the same distances and terrain). The Verve is beginning to tremble, and the frame feels less sturdy than the Sirrus, who is nine years old. The Verve appears to have deteriorated more in a year than the Sirrus did in nine years, given the same circumstances and care. I want to trade my Verve in for a new Sirrus. Who knows though; perhaps the design of simple bikes was more advanced ten years ago….we shall see…
Is The Trek Verve 2 An Excellent Bicycle?
If you’re after a hybrid bike with fantastic braking power thanks to the hydraulic disc brakes, great reviews, and lots of features – the Verve 2 is a fantastic option!
If you’re looking for a drawback, I’d say the pedals need to be upgraded. It’s not a big deal to me, though, because I can’t recall ever using the pedals that came with a new bike instead of my own.
It also boasts an alpha gold aluminum frame that keeps the kgs down to a very respectable and desirable 13kg!
How Do Trek Verve 1 And 2 Differ From One Another?
The disc brakes make a significant distinction. The disc brakes on the Verve 2 Disc bicycles are hydraulic. The Trek Verve 1 has mechanical disc brakes.
This is significant because, when it comes to cycling, hydraulic disc brakes are more dependable and easier to maintain.
The brakes and gearing will both matter if you like to travel at high speeds…
The Verve 2 disc also benefits from a Shimano drivetrain . SunRace cassette is available for the Trek Verve 1.
Does it really matter?
Your shifters’ responsiveness may be impacted by the various materials these derailleurs are made of.
Ideally, the derailleurs will react immediately when you shift gears on your shifters.
Each Verve comes with an aluminum alloy frame, which is impressive considering some of the price points!
The Verve 2 Disc scores higher in terms of versatility because it offers a wider variety of gears!
The Trek Verve 2’s Weight Is How Much?
One of the features I love about the Trek Verve 2 disc is how lightweight it is as a bike. It weighs 13.2kg.
That is impressive for a hybrid bike with hydraulic disc brakes.
Then when you factor in that you get a load of extras such as the puncture protection tires , which yes, do weigh more but we’re talking grams and These tires, in my opinion, are worth the added weight.
Let’s not forget the rack, fender, and lights that are all included!
It is a lightweight bicycle overall.
Is A Trek Bike Value For The Money?
Despite the fact that every Trek bike is unique, the company still makes some good bikes. A high-quality, reasonably priced hybrid bike is the Trek Verve.
The post focused on trek verve 2 review.
without sacrificing any effort in order to improve riding comfort on the Trek Verve. a great balance of performance and selling price in the Trek Verve 2 Disc: a comfortable, enjoyable commuter, leisure, and fitness bike. providing a ride that is secure and comfortable with many thoughtful features. So this is a great hybrid bike to buy

Trek Verve+ 2 Review: Everything You Need To Know
- by Riding With Ryan (Official)

When my wife and I went e-bike shopping we knew we wanted a mid-drive e-bike with a step-through, or low step, option. We needed an e-bike that would be fun for guests can use when they visit, and something my wife can use to keep up on longer rides. Usually the altitude limits our visitors ability to go on bike rides, but viewing the City from the trail system is too amazing to miss. This Trek Verve+ 2 review will explain how this bike perfectly fit our needs.
This bike is a perfect fit for our family, but it is not perfect straight out of the box. In fact, there was one upgrade we made before we even left the bike shop. I’m going to share all of those problems, as well as everything we love about this bike.
Trek Verve+ 2 Problems
We haven’t had any serious problems with the Trek Verve+ 2. It probably doesn’t feel like a Trek Verve+ 2 review if I don’t bash on something, but this is a really well thought out bike. There is a quick release on the seat post to adjust saddle height, a rack already included, an adjustable stem and fenders to keep riders clean
Even though we haven’t had any problems, we have made a few modifications. The first modification we made was to the tires. The trail systems we ride most often are a combination of pavement and gravel. Some of the gravel sections can be a tad chunky and loose. The Bontrager H5 tires that come on the bike are excellent for commuting around town on pavement, but they felt a little loose at higher speeds on gravel.
Best Verve+ Upgrades
We ended up making the upgrade to a 700×50 gravel tire. According to the Trek Bikes website , this is the largest tire size they recommend for the Verve+ 2. My wife loved the look of tan sidewall tires and we ordered the first available pair. I also bought thorn resistant tubes. The shop installed the tubes and tires before we picked up the bike. The upgrade was easy and it totally transformed this bike.

One other modification we made was to the rear taillight. Rather than try to replace the light, we simply added a second that provides an additional level of functionality.
If you’ve followed me for a while you know I am a huge advocate of the Garmin Varia RTL515 radar tail light. ( Read my Varia RTL515 Review here .)
We ended up adding the taillight and have been using the app on my wife’s iPhone for the display. I love the way it displays on my Garmin computer, but another Edge is not something we need right now and the app works great.
What Is The Trek Verve+ 2 Range?
The range of this e-bike is relative to loads of different variables. The short and quick answer is you should get 30-80 miles on a full charge. That range is so broad is because range varies by fitness level, terrain, level of assist used, rider weight, and even a strong headwind will impact range. Our personal average has been just over 40 miles. That is riding mixed terrain with two riders of mixed fitness levels sharing the bike.
There are four different modes of assist: Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo. As the name implies, Eco will use the least amount of battery, while Turbo will use the most. If you hold down the minus(-) on your control pad it will change the display settings. The default is speed and odometer, but the second option shows your estimated range.
The normal display shows the traditional battery with illuminated bars indicating life. The range is nice because it converts that “bars” display into a mileage reading.
When riding the bike in Eco mode on flat surfaces we get a range of just over 80 miles. It’s hard to find such a flat stretch here in Colorado.
When climbing up hills in turbo mode the range is under 30 miles. We do have stretches of road with 30 mile climbs nearby. Thankfully you can double your mileage by simply turning around to go downhill.
Does the Verve+ 2 Have Suspension?
Yes, this bike comes with a seatpost suspension system offering 40mm of travel. Again, we take our Verve+ on gravel and it is incredibly comfortable. The slightly wider tires we upgraded also help smooth out the ride.
This suspension is not good enough to take this bike on a mountain bike trail. The riding posture is not ideal for aggressive trail riding either. The handlebars are adjustable to lay flat or stand upright. Even in the most aggressive position the bike feels more like a cruiser hybrid mix.

My question is how did I handle Those hills. I have read that the verve 2+ is underpowered and doesn’t do well on hills. We have a few in our neighborhood so this is a big issue for me
Power is all relative. The torque doesn’t have as many newton meters as others in this price range. If you are in shape and cycle already the assist offers plenty of power. If someone is getting into it to get in shape they will probably feel it is underpowered on steep inclines. I think it’s a great bike in terms of battery life, reliability and durability. It’s definitely not a peak performance machine.

The Verve 3’s benefits from the smooth and efficient gearing provided by Shimano’s Acera components. Both the front and back derailleurs are Acera as well as the shifters. Trek has downgraded the front crank to a 2-speed ring but put a 9-speed Shimano HG200 cassette on the rear, with 11-36 cogs. This gives the rider 18 gears overall with the added range provided by the extra-large 36t rear cog.
Hydraulic Disc Brakes
Trek has also decided to go with Shimano in the braking department this time around. Shimano’s MT200 hydraulic disc brakes are a firm favorite amongst hybrid and MTB riders alike. They provide great grip, instant reaction time, and no slippage even in wet weather.
Bontrager Hardcase Wheels
Bontrager’s Hardcase Ultimate tires are the real deal when it comes to tackling hazardous city streets. These things will carve through rubble or broken rocks without trouble and should even keep you safe against glass shards or small nails. The 700c x 45 wire-beaded tires also have reflective sidewalls for safer night riding.
Alpha Gold Aluminum Frame
The Alpha Gold aluminum frame is compatible with Trek’s DuoTrap S sensor system for tracking your progress. It also has a front and rear rack and fender mounts if you wish to convert the Verve 3 into a decent touring bicycle. With the strong frame and alloy fork, the Verve 3 can carry up to 300 lbs (136 kg) of overall weight (rider and luggage).
DuoTrap S Compatible
DuoTrap S is Trek’s unique frame-integrated wireless computer system that tracks your statistics while you cycle. It can be installed neatly into the frame on the inside of the rear wheel for a clean and aerodynamic finish. The DuoTrap S device (sold separately) tracks your cycling statistics and sends the information wirelessly to a Bluetooth or ANT+ enabled cycling computer or smartphone.

The Verve 1 is compatible with Trek’s proprietary DuoTrap S wireless computer system (sold separately). The system tracks your cycling statistics and sends the information wirelessly to a Bluetooth or ANT+ enabled cycling computer or smartphone.
Trek Verve 2 Disc

MSRP $670 Best Features : Hydraulic Disc Brakes, Bontrager 700x45c wheels, Alpha Gold aluminum frame, Suspension seat post
The Verve 2 is an intermediate hybrid bike for casual riders with some nice components upgrades from Verve 1. Most notably, the Verve 2 is fitted with a higher-quality Shimano 8-speed cassette that offers a wider range of gears. It benefits from the same solid aluminum frame material but with a lighter alloy fork at the front.
- Men’s Trek Verve 2 Disc comes in four sizes (S, M, L, XL) and two colors: Rage Red and Lithium Grey. Coming in at about 29 lbs (13.2 kg), it’s a bit lighter than the Verve 1 but equally strong and reliable.
- Women’s Trek Verve 2 Disc comes also in four sizes (XS, S, M, L) and two colors: Teal and Quiksilver. Weighing 28.8lbs (13kg).
Shimano Groupset
The Verve 2 has a full Shimano drivetrain comprised of Altus and Tourney derailleurs and an 8-speed Shimano HG31 cassette. Combined with the triple cog on the crank gives you 24 gears in total, enough to tackle steep hills or hit the tarmac with speed.
Hydraulic disc brakes
The Verve 2 enjoys improved braking power with Tektro HD-M275 hydraulic disc brakes. Hydraulic brakes provide quicker and more reactive braking power with less pressure required, ensuring you always stop in time and avoid accidents.
Suspension Seatpost
While Verve 2 doesn’t have any suspension on the front or rear wheels it does get a nice touch with seat post suspension. The alloy adjustable seat post has a small added spring that gives up to 27.2mm of travel that will absorb any sudden bumps that creep up on you.
Aluminum Frame and Alloy Fork
The Verve 2 has the same Trek Alpha Gold aluminum frame as the Verve 1 with a lighter 415mm alloy fork. The comfortable frame geometry puts the rider in an upright position, with a 71.5-degree head angle and an average 70-degree seat tube angle.
Bontrager Wheels
The wheels on the Verve 2 are Bontrager Connection with size 700x45c Bontrager H5 wire-bead tires. The thick-treaded, reflective and puncture-protected tires are strong and resilient in all types of weather, ensuring you stay safe and visible even in low-light conditions.
Trek Verve 3 Disc

MSRP $820 Best Features : Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes, Bontrager Hardcase wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano Acera Groupset
The Verve 3 is Trek’s top-dog in this range of hybrid bikes and ensures you get all the best quality parts for an excellent price. The inclusion of a full Shimano Acera groupset really gives the Verve 3 an extra touch of class .
- Men’s Verve 3 Disc comes in four sizes (S, M, L, XL) and two colors: Metallic Gunmetal and Mulsanne Blue. It weighs on average 30.2 lbs (13.7 kg), making it slightly heavier than the Verve 2 and about equal to the Verve 1.
- Women’s Verve 3 Disc weighs about 13.54 kg / 29.85 lb, comes in two colors: Quicksilver, Purple Abyss. Four sizes: XS, S, M, L
What Can Be Better?
It’s hard to find any cons about those bikes, and we really couldn’t find anything major. If you are willing to sacrifice the speed and ease of riding, you might want to swap the rigid fork to a front suspension with at least 50mm travel.
Another not-so-good fact about these bikes is that they look really nice and glossy, which means you have to take good care of it by not getting the frame scratched. We also recommend investing in a solid bicycle lock too as this bike simply won’t get unnoticed!
Trek Verve Disc Sizing Chart
Conclusion: why is the verve so popular.
- Built by Trek
- Outworldly beautiful design
- Unbeatable value in terms of geometry and components
- Super comfortable and easy to ride
- Rack & fender ready for maximum versatility

It is almost impossible to fit a front rack on the verve 3. There’s only a mid fork eyelet, and the fork is too wide for the little options there are for mid-fork mounting front racks.
A friend bought a Verve 1in black. It is labeled as a “1” yet it has much up-graded components. It’s more like a “3”. It was purchased and put to together by Trek employees. Is this possible?
Hi, could you recommend a specific brand of a front suspension fork that I could buy to replace the rigid front fork for the Trek Verve 3 disc lowstep with a medium frame?

Trek Verve+ 2 Review: The 2022 Commuter Model
If you are a lover of the Trek brand, then you should look at the Verve+2 ebike 2022 model. But, is it worth it?
We know the company is well known for building quality and good-looking bikes.
With the slight Trek Verve+ ebike success in 2019 , the brand decided to improve some of its components, such as motor efficiency, battery performance, and ride’s comfort.
On the price side of things, it may not be an affordable electric bike . Nevertheless, this review will uncover some of its secrets to conclude if it is worth or not the investment.
Table of Contents
How Riding the Verve+2 Feels Like?
One of the outstanding things we saw with the bike improvements is how smooth and balanced the whole system feels.
Part of that is the addition of the seat-post suspension, which also can be adjusted to the rider’s needs.
On the power side, if you get annoyed with motors that are noisy, no matter what assistance you are riding in, this will be not the case.
Another thing to consider is the requirements of the motor for optimal performance.
The latest Bosch motors have many sensors included so they deliver what the rider needs.
Having said that, if you want to get the best out of the Bosch technology, you are better putting in a more active pedaling than just cruising with not much use of your legs.
A couple more things:
– The bike now has a chain plastic guard, which is fantastic for commuting if you want to ride with office clothes on.
– No front suspension. This could be an important factor if you are looking for more comfort but also, think that it will add to the overall weight.
What Tech The 2022 Model Brings?
Pedal assisted system.
This electric bicycle is classified as pedelec with power assist cut-off limit at 20 mph (32 km/h ).
The beauty of this model is that you can keep on pedaling for more speed without any motor resistance (freewheel).
Depending on how much assistance you need, you can get four (4) levels: eco, tour, sport, and turbo .
What does it mean for you in terms of power?
Well, the Eco mode will provide 40% power; the tour mode will be 100%; the sport level will be 170%, and last but not least, the turbo will be 250% of the power.
What does 170% or 250% power mean?
For those that love speed, these numbers won’t refer to it.
It means that the torque provided by the motor will be more intense when the sensor detects a reduction in pedal cadence if going uphill so that to maintain the desired momentum.
As you may infer, these two (2) modes are better applicable if climbing up hills.
Bosch Purion display
The display is a very straightforward controller that shows all the basic features including speed, traveled distance, battery range, and assistance level.

Although the controller is easily accessible for on-riding operation, I think it is better to set what you need beforehand as the display may be a bit hard to read on a sunny day.
Other things about its pedelec configuration
The brand decided not to include a walking mode feature within the Bosch Purion display, most likely for simplicity. I believe you won’t need it as this 2022 model is not as heavy as it looks.
Although, some users believe the display is terrible because of its small size, still does much better than what more expensive brands offer. Besides, what else do you need the controller to do?
Mid-Drive Bosch Motor
Compared to the 2018 Verve model, this mid-drive motor is basically the same. Nevertheless, there seems to be more sensors sensitivity, therefore giving a more accurate power based on your pedal cadence.
Read More: Electric Motor Bike Guide – What to Know About It .
As mentioned before, this Active Line is a 250Watts motor that delivers 40Nm of torque .
The watts and torque may not be so impressive to me, but it is good enough for commuting in any city setting.
Another thing I like about this motor is its small size, which is ideal for bikes that may be generally heavy.
Lastly, if you are more inclined to pedal on low gears, be mindful that the RPM has been limited to only 100, meaning that the motor won’t give power passing this point.
Any Battery Changes?
The brand hasn’t changed much on the 400W lithium battery side either, as this new model comes with a standard one.
If you want a better capacity, you can always get a better one.
Read More: eBike Batteries – The 2021 Beginner’s Guide .
One thing that I appreciate about the brand is its weight, which is about 2.45 kg (5.4 lbs) , so it would be easy to carry anywhere if you need to.
And, it is good as well to avoid your bike being stolen.
Read More: eBike Anti Theft Guide: Best Ways to Secure an Electric Bike
One thing that I notice is how hot it gets if charging on a hot day. I’m not sure if this is normal for 36v batteries but, it is better to pull it out of the frame and charge it in a cool room (if you can).
What can you get for range?
As mentioned before, you have four-pedal assistance levels. Depending on the selection, you will roughly get:
– Eco-mode: ~ 90 miles.
– Tour: ~70 miles.
– Sport: ~55 miles.
– Turbo: approx. 35 miles.
This range estimates are not 100% accurate because there are other factors, such as route topography and cadence, that will affect it.
Also, the ranges are estimated assuming you are assisted by the motor all the time.
Other points to know about it
This ebike comes with a standard charger as well, which for you means the battery will be charged in about 5 hrs .
Other elements the battery powers are the front and rear lights and the controller. No need to be worried here is the power drawn by these elements is minimal.

The Non-powered Elements
The Trek Verve 2 Plus 2022 had to include quality elements to be considered a medium to high-class ebike.
Let’s see closer some of its elements.
Braking performance
Like the previous model, this one also comes fitted with Shimano hydraulic brakes.
The 160 mm rotors were designed to perform well with the dual-piston Calipers.
One thing I like here is the three (3) level adjustable finger , so people with small hands like me can reach easily the brake lever.
Not many electric bicycles come with a dual-piston system, so rest assure you will have a great braking performance in any type of weather.
Seat and lights
There have been many changes with this 2022 model and are more noticeable with the seat design, the light position, and the fenders.

The saddle comes fitted with a 30mm travel spring suspension , which is great for long-distance rides. I like the fact that they kept its width and added a small ventilation point for comfort.
One of the biggest changes, after many riders’ feedback, was the front and rear light position.
The front light now is attached to the fork rather than the actual frame. For many, this was a downside when steering and not having any light brightening the way.
As for the rear one, it is attached to the rear rack rather than the fender. This doesn’t look like a big change.
Tires and gearing system
Not much was changed with the tires this time. They kept the same Bontrager brand to provide the quality required on any hard terrain.
One thing to notice is the quality of the tires’ carving.
It is more smooth on the center, so there is less friction when riding and also, the side pads are bigger to keep a good grip when taking corners.
Read More: Electric Bike Tires Buying Guide .
As for the gear system, it is the same Shimano quality that many other brands use.
On this occasion, 9 gear are available to reach the top speed without pedaling too much.
I’m pleased to see the addition of the plastic guard to cover the chain. This is not also great to avoid your long pants being wrapped by the chain but also getting them greasy.
This was very thoughtful from Trek considering it was designed for commuting.
Design and Comfort for Men and Women
When commuting is involved, the company knows that they had to design thinking about men and women.
Structure design
There are two (2) frames available, where one is a high-step and the other one is step-thru.

If you are more inclined to the low-step design, I see that there was no allowance for a bottle holder to be installed. This is definitely a downside .
No suspension?
Many riders believe that not having a front suspension will result in an uncomfortable ride. This could be true depending on where you ride it.
I know the Verve 2 Plus doesn’t come with a suspension system, aside from the saddle of course, but looking at the bigger picture, not many dedicated commuter electric bikes have suspension at all.
Just think that the overall weight will increase when adding more fancy elements.
If you want added comfort, I suggest looking at hybrid electric bicycles.
Available sizes
Last but not least, it is good to know what sizes are available. From the old days model, these numbers haven’t changed:
Even if your height is good for one of their frames, I strongly suggest having a test ride and making sure you can touch the ground comfortably.
Should you Buy this Trek Commuter eBike?
It is clear that other bike companies are launching good quality commuter models for an affordable price.
When comparing the two models, 2018 and 2022, I saw there were not many changes done. To be honest, the modifications were more esthetic than mechanical.
Some of the modifications included a set of plastic fenders, a plastic guard chain (awesome to prevent your long pant from getting dirty), and a more versatile light system.
The one thing I definitely like is the improved responsiveness of the sensors when pedaling. This translates into a more efficient motor and an improved range for the battery.
Overall, I would have no second thoughts about investing in the Trek Verve+ 2 2022 model , considering the technology used and the focus on commuting purposes.

Trek Verve+ 2
Frame & components quality, braking performance, speed & torque (motor), controller & assistance, battery range, overall weight, portability & maneuverability, what we like.
- ✅ Motor sensor more responsive, which is great for uphill adventures.
- ✅ Improved lights system for night rides.
- ✅ Plastic fenders and chain guard included.
What we do not like
- Fenders could rattle more but won't affect your ride.
- Cadence sensor limited to 100rpm. After this, assistance will cut off.
- No fork suspension but this is not a hybrid ebike.

One of the most important things to consider when buying a bike is the wheel size. The Trek Verve 2 comes in two different wheel sizes: 700c and 27.5 inches.
The 700c wheels are larger and more commonly used on road bikes. They offer a smoother ride and are better for longer distances and higher speeds. The Trek Verve 2 with 700c wheels is a great choice for commuting and fitness riding.
On the other hand, the 27.5-inch wheels are smaller and more commonly used on mountain bikes. They offer better traction and stability on rough terrain and are better for off-road riding. The Trek Verve 2 with 27.5-inch wheels is a good choice for those who plan to do some light trail riding in addition to commuting and fitness riding.
It’s important to note that the Trek Verve 2 with 700c wheels comes in a larger frame size than the one with 27.5-inch wheels. This means that if you are taller, you may be more comfortable on the 700c version.
If you plan to do mostly road riding, the 700c wheels are a good choice. If you plan to do some off-road riding, the 27.5-inch wheels may be a better option.
Which Wheel Size is Right for You?
When it comes to choosing the right bike, one of the most important factors to consider is the wheel size. The Trek Verve 2 comes in two different wheel sizes: 700c and 27.5″.
The 700c wheel size is the standard size for road bikes and is great for commuting, touring, and fitness riding. These wheels are larger in diameter, which means they roll more easily over rough terrain and maintain momentum better on flat roads. They also tend to be faster than smaller wheels, making them a good choice for riders who want to cover long distances quickly.
On the other hand, the 27.5″ wheel size is a bit smaller and is often used on mountain bikes. These wheels are great for riders who want more control and stability on rough terrain. They are also more maneuverable than larger wheels, making them a good choice for riders who need to navigate tight turns and technical trails.
When it comes to choosing the right wheel size for you, it really depends on your riding style and the terrain you plan to ride on. If you’re mostly riding on smooth roads and want to cover long distances quickly, the 700c wheels might be the better choice.
