- SeaLink WA Wins Major Western Australian Tourism Awards
Posted by Chisa Boonmee | Nov 10, 2022 | Accolades | 0 |
The WA Tourism Awards recognise businesses, individuals and destinations across 26 categories for their commitment to excellence. The Sir David Brand Award is the highest tourism honour in Western Australia awarded to the best tourism business across all the gold medallists in the 26 categories.
SeaLink WA operates three well-known tourism brands in Western Australia – SeaLink Rottnest Island, Captain Cook Cruises on the Swan River, and Swan Valley Tours.
SeaLink’s Chief Operating Officer, Donna Gauci, congratulated all the finalists and said the industry accolades are testament to the commitment of the entire SeaLink team to deliver the best possible experience for all our customers.
“We are all extremely proud of our SeaLink team in Western Australia to win both the Major Tour and Transport Operator of the year and the Sir David Brand Award, which is the highest accolade for tourism in the state,” she said.
“Like all tourism operators over the last two-and-half years we have faced immense challenges with domestic and international border closures, and people who have left the tourism industry.
“However, our SeaLink team have consistently focused on delivering a brilliant customer experience with every guest that we welcome on board.
As a category gold medallist, SeaLink will go on to represent WA at the 2022 Australian Tourism Awards.
SeaLink WA General Manager, Andrew Lane said “I am immensely proud of our team here in Western Australia.
“We have the best job in the world connecting and sharing some of the best tourism destinations WA has to offer including Rottnest Island, Perth CBD and Fremantle, the Swan River and Swan Valley.”
“Being awarded as the best tourism operator in WA ahead of 25 of the state’s finest operators is an outstanding achievement and a testament to our team’s commitment to consistently go above and beyond for our customers,” he said.
“We look forward to representing both SeaLink and West Australian tourism at the national tourism awards,” Mr Lane said.

Mandurah Crowned Top Tourism Town 2022
Mandurah is wa’s top tourism town.
Mandurah was named the winner of the 2022 GWN7 Top Tourism Town Award at the 2022 Perth Airport WA Tourism Conference Dinner on 22nd June. Mandurah claimed the Gold Medal in the Top Tourism Town category, with Geraldton claiming Silver and Esperance taking out Bronze.
Mandurah has been crowned Western Australia’s Top Tourism Town at today’s 2022 GWN7 Top Tourism Town Awards.
Mayor Rhys Williams said Mandurah has always been a significant place in WA and is delighted to see it get the recognition it deserves.
“We are so proud to see Mandurah awarded Top Tourism Town for 2022,” said Mr Williams.
“Woven by waterways, Mandurah is a city with a village heart. Blessed with endless stretches of pristine coastline, tree lined walkways, plenty of attractions and safe swimming beaches; Mandurah is the perfect family holiday destination and it’s truly wonderful to see it recognised as such.”
The GWN7 Top Tourism Town Awards recognise and reward towns in Western Australia that demonstrate a strong commitment to encouraging tourism and increasing visitation to the destination. Mandurah competed against Collie, Esperance, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Karratha and Kununurra for the top spot.
Visit Mandurah General Manager, Anita Kane, said the recognition came at the perfect time.
“Over the last few years, Western Australians have explored their State and Mandurah has fast become a much-loved tourism destination,” said Ms Kane.
“Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, long-running tourism operators have launched new products and news attractions have opened their doors. As such, Mandurah has become a major competitor in the tourism industry and this award acknowledges this,” said Ms Kane.
With an estuary twice the size of Sydney Harbour, Mandurah is one of Australia’s most spectacular playgrounds for boating, fishing and wildlife watching. The Mandurah Estuary and Peel Inlet provide endless water-based activities including riding waterbikes, floating on BBQ boats, SUP Yoga, houseboating and many more.
This is the second time Mandurah has been awarded Top Tourism Town. In 2017, Mandurah competed against Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Albany.

Mandurah four-time finalist in Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards 2022
Mandurah's position as a top Western Australian tourism destination has been confirmed with the city being named a finalist in four categories of a prestigious tourism awards program.
Mandurah was named a finalist in the WA Tourism Awards 2022 for Tourism Marketing and Campaigns, Visitor Information Services, and Excellence in Local Government categories. The Christmas Lights Trail was also named a finalist in the Major Events and Festivals category.
Visit Mandurah General Manager, Anita Kane, said Mandurah had emerged from the pandemic "at the forefront of the tourism industry".
"Through the transformed city centre, refurbished Visitor Centre, major marketing efforts and a year-round events calendar, Mandurah is now known as a family friendly holiday destination for nature lovers and those seeking recreation along our stunning waterways," Ms Kane said.
"At Visit Mandurah, we have a strong commitment to encouraging tourism and increasing visitation to the destination. Part of this work includes getting Mandurah the recognition it deserves, so we are thrilled with the acknowledgement to date and excited to see how we fair at the finals."
The Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards recognises businesses, individuals and destinations for their commitment to excellence, providing a platform to review achievements and innovation, and an opportunity to raise their profile among the industry and consumers.
The winners will be announced at an event at the Grand Ballroom Crown Perth on November 5.
Mandurah is no stranger to tourism awards: in June, it was crowned WA's Top Tourism Town. In September, Mandurah was recognised nationally and awarded Bronze at the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards.

2022 Governor’s Smart Communities Award winners announced - Washington State Department of Commerce
2022 governor’s smart communities award winners announced.
- August 16, 2022
- Commerce News , Press Releases
OLYMPIA, WA —Eight Washington cities have been named Smart Communities Award winners for 2022. Launched in 2006, the Governor’s Smart Communities Awards program annually recognizes local governments and their partners for exceptional work in implementing the state’s Growth Management Act (GMA) to shape future growth, economic vitality and quality of life in communities across Washington.
Award winners can serve as models for other communities on solutions to issues of statewide significance including housing shortages, climate resilience and equity in community development.
“With so many good examples of creative and collaborative planning in our state, it is hard to select ‘winners’,” said Commerce Director Lisa Brown. “Local communities are employing a wide variety of strategies, tools and ingenuity to develop their own unique answers to the challenges of equitable and sustainable growth and economic development.”
The 2022 Governor’s Smart Communities Awards announced today:
SMART VISION AWARDS – for a comprehensive plan, subarea plan or planning policies.
The La Vogue building is Hoquiam’s key commercial building and part of the Downtown and Olympic Stadium revitalization plan that will include a new restaurant, additional commercial space and 20 vacation rental units, and renovation of the historic all-wood Olympic Stadium.
Hoquiam – Downtown and Olympic Stadium Revitalization Plan is one of two Smart Vision Award winners. Completed in June 2021, the City of Hoquiam developed a strategic, tactical implementation plan to revitalize the historic downtown and Olympic Stadium, leading to local engagement, new investment and significant increases in downtown accommodations.
Renton – Rainier/Grady Junction Transit-Oriented Development Subarea Plan also received a Smart Vision Award. It provides a vision and strategies to guide growth and achieve a holistic, people-oriented mixed-use neighborhood around Sound Transit’s planned bus rapid transit line and transit center. This significant investment will create a true transit hub for the South King County region and the first step toward realizing a vibrant new district of opportunity.
SMART PARTNERSHIP AWARD – for a joint public project that implements a comprehensive plan.
Kenmore – Kenmore Public Boathouse project. Rowing is a cultural icon for Kenmore, both for local pride and commercial tourism. The boathouse is a jointly developed project that began as an advisory committee in 2017, consisting of the city, Northshore School District, Kenmore Community Rowing Club, and the George Pocock Rowing Foundation. Since completion, the district’s school rowing teams have swelled in numbers and in the first four months of operation, the rowing club has provided programs including low-cost youth summer camps, competitive adult training and learn-to-row programs at the boathouse.
SMART PROJECT AWARD – for a project implementing a comprehensive plan.

Bellevue – Bellevue Mobility Implementation Plan (MIP). The plan is a transportation implementation framework developed by the Transportation Commission and approved by the city council in April 2022. It is designed to accommodate growth and supports the city’s Growth Management Plan, and regional connectivity. Tapping their Capital Investment Program Plan and the Bellevue Transportation Department general fund, the city was solely responsible for all resources needed to develop the MIP – a great example of integration, advanced planning and locally driven funding.
Langley – Multi-family Infill Form Based Code. Adopted by the city council in June 2021, this new code is intended to increase alternatives for “missing middle” housing while ensuring development fits in with Langley’s historic small-town feel and complements regulations in the underlying zoning. Rather than using poorly understood regulations, the intensity or density of a project is controlled by a combination of building height, setbacks, lot coverage, and parking requirements. Existing infrastructure is being used so the utilities do not have to be extended, making this a more sustainable form of development as well.
SMART HOUSING STRATEGIES AWARD – for creative plans, policies, programs and/or actions.
Seattle – Affordable Housing on Religious Organization Property planning. In 2020 and 2021, the Seattle Office of Planning and Community Development and Office of Housing partnered to create a development bonus for affordable housing on property owned by religious organizations. This fulfilled state statutory requirements in SHB 1377 and responded to advocacy and direction from faith-based and housing stakeholders, including historically Black churches in Seattle’s Central Area where residents face displacement. Long-term affordable rental and ownership are primary goals for this process. All housing developed using the bonus must be affordable to eligible residents for at least 50 years.
SMART CLIMATE STRATEGIES AWARD – for plans, policies, programs and/or actions addressing community climate impacts.
Lakewood – 2021 Comprehensive Plan, Energy and Climate Change Chapter. In 2020, Lakewood began proactively developing climate change policies, incentives and voluntary actions, and potential regulations ahead of state or regional mandates. Leading the way, city staff prepared the document over 12 months using data on city-specific greenhouse gas (GHG) sources and anticipated climate change effects as it plans for thousands of new residents by 2050. Most new residents will be able to locate in planned new missing middle and higher density housing in the Downtown and Lakewood Station District subareas. Planning also accounts for thousands of new retail, commercial and industrial jobs.
JUDGES MERIT AWARD – recognizing success in more than one judged category.
The 2022 Judges Merit Award goes to the city of Lakewood for their Lakewood Station District Subarea Plan, Code and Planned Action (LSDS Package). Adoption of the LSDS Package is the realization of a community vision included in the Lakewood Comprehensive Plan for the subarea since incorporation, as well as the city council’s strategic plan. Prepared between November 2019 and May 2021, it serves as an outstanding example of smart visioning, housing, and equity strategies that other jurisdictions can follow.
The Station District is a racially and ethnically concentrated area of poverty, and a high percentage of households that are cost-burdened. The LSDS package addresses these issues by supporting more options for low and moderate income housing, a variety of housing types, and aims to prevent economic displacement for existing residents. Since the vision and concept for the Lakewood Station District had been a longstanding part of Lakewood’s Comprehensive Plan, the city sought updates from the community through multiple formats and in-person meetings. In addition to being an area of risk for economic displacement, the launch of this project coincided with the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Knowing this, the city used remote outreach engagement options to solicit and collect community input. Bilingual social media messages encouraged survey participation as well as a self-guided walk-shop exercise that asked participants, including children, to walk the subarea and record their impressions. The sheer scope of work and Lakewood’s efforts to engage their community, even amidst a global pandemic, earned the judge’s praise.

Miami dolphins | hustle and effort help magic earn game 7 shot in cleveland, miami dolphins, miami dolphins | dolphins signing former pro bowl pick odell beckham jr. to be no. 3 wide receiver.
The Dolphins, after fielding a visit from Beckham in March and making him an offer , are signing him, according to a league source Friday.
The deal is for one year and worth up to $8.25 million, according to NFL Network . That figure is less than he was reportedly offered elsewhere, as Beckham proved Miami was where he wanted to go.
Beckham made $15 million last season with the Baltimore Ravens. It was known the Dolphins, pressed on salary-cap space after letting homegrown talents Christian Wilkins, Robert Hunt and Andrew Van Ginkel walk in free agency and bringing in their own slate of outside players, wouldn’t meet a comparable price. But the two sides reached a compromise Friday.
The addition of Beckham gives the Dolphins a certified third receiving option behind standouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle after the team already signed pass-catching tight end Jonnu Smith to the roster in early March.
Beckham, 31, is a three-time Pro Bowl selection, but those were in his first three seasons in the NFL, from 2014 to 2016, as an elite talent out of LSU that was taken with the No. 12 pick 10 years ago by the New York Giants.
A pair of ankle injuries slowed the 5-foot-11, 200-pound pass-catcher in 2017, but he bounced back for 1,000-yard seasons in 2018, his final year with New York, and 2019, his first with the Cleveland Browns.
Suffering two significant knee injuries in the years since, that was the last time he put up those kind of numbers. His 2020 season with the Browns was cut short with a torn ACL.
Waived midway through 2021 and then picked up by the Los Angeles Rams, he contributed to a Super Bowl title, but he tore his ACL again in the big game, costing him the 2022 season.
Beckham returned with the Ravens for 2023 and posted 35 receptions and 565 yards. His 16.1 yards per catch were a career high.
The Dolphins lacked a No. 3 wide receiver in 2023, and Cedrick Wilson Jr., who fled to the New Orleans Saints this offseason, ended up taking on the role by season’s end.
Miami also has Braxton Berrios, River Cracraft and Erik Ezukanma as veteran wide receivers on the roster. The team drafted rookies Malik Washington from Virginia in the fifth round and Tahj Washington from USC in the seventh round in last weekend’s NFL draft.
Fellow wideout Chase Claypool was with the Dolphins last year after an early-season trade. He signed with the Buffalo Bills on Friday.
Miami was also in the mix for Tyler Boyd, but ultimately reached Friday’s agreement with Beckham, who was their top target at the position.
This story will be updated.
