Taylor Swift will be making another stop north of the border as she continues her trek across the globe with her record-breaking The Eras Tour .

The pop superstar revealed Thursday that she will be playing three shows in Vancouver in 2024. The shows, presented by Rogers Communications Inc., will see Swift take the stage for three straight nights – Dec. 6, 7 and 8 at B.C. Place.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of bringing Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour to Vancouver, giving fans the experience of a lifetime,” said Terrie Tweddle, Chief Brand and Communications Officer at Rogers.

The Vancouver shows will come on the heels of six dates in Toronto. The announcement for the new West Coast dates comes almost exactly three months after Swift revealed her initial Canadian shows at Rogers Centre .

The three dates will be the first time Swift plays in Vancouver in nearly a decade. She last hit the stage at B.C. Place during her 1989 World Tour in August 2015.

Verified Fan registration is now open for the newly added Vancouver shows. Fans can register here until Saturday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m.

Tickets go on sale on Nov. 9 and only fans who received an email confirming access will be able to join the queue. Selected fans will receive a unique access code and link via text message the day prior to to the Verified Fan Onsale.

Others will be waitlisted and could be given access if there is remaining inventory.

Rogers will be offering Canadians access to premium tickets for both the Toronto and Vancouver shows. More details on how fans across Canada can win tickets will be revealed soon.

“Rogers is all about connecting Canadians and bringing them the best content and best experiences, and Taylor is simply the best,” Tweddle said.

Minutes after the announcement of the Toronto shows went live, Ticketmaster reported “heavy traffic” on their Verified Fan webpage, which the platform says is meant as a protective measure against online scalper bots.

The Ticketmaster website crashed under the weight of Swift demand last year. The company cancelled plans for its public sale, citing demand that “could have filled 900 stadiums.” So far, it hasn’t announced any plans for the public sale of her concerts since.

The American singer made headlines earlier this year when there were initially no Canadian shows announced as part of her international Eras Tour dates. The perceived snub even prompted  a personal invitation  from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and saw an MP  file an “official” grievance “ in the House of Commons “on behalf of all Swifties” in the country.

Swift began her Eras tour earlier this year, performing songs from her chart-topping career against the backdrop of an elaborate stage design for each album.

The U.S. leg of the tour kicked off in March and wrapped up in the summer with six sold-out shows in Los Angeles. The  international leg of the tour  began in late August and continues well into next year with stops in Mexico, South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.

Swift’s reimagined 2014 album, “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” was released last week . Many consider the original album to be the release that ushered in the first Peak Swift era and began her massive pop culture dominance.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Verified Fan Onsale is using registration to ensure more tickets get into the hands of fans who want to go to the shows, not buyers looking to resell them.

Only fans that receive an email confirming their access will be able to join the queue for this Verified Fan Onsale. Fans who are selected will receive additional instructions on Wednesday, November 8. All others will be put on a waitlist.

Tickets for these shows will be in high demand, therefore, a limited number of fans will get access to the Verified Fan Onsale while others will be placed on the waitlist as described below. Access to the Verified Fan Onsale does not guarantee tickets. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

Registration is open from Thursday, November 2 at 8:00 a.m. PT through Saturday, November 4 at 5:00 p.m. PT .

Key Dates to Know

Thursday, November 2 – Registration opens Saturday, November 4 @ 5:00 p.m. PT – Registration closes Wednesday, November 8 – Fans will receive confirmation if they will have access to the Verified Fan Onsale or if they have been placed on the waitlist.

Thursday, November 9 – Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Verified Fan Onsale (only fans that received an email confirming their access will be able to join the queue for this sale). All shows will be assigned specific on-sale windows, which will be communicated prior to the start of the sale.

How Will This Sale Work?

Ticketmaster is helping artists give their fans a better opportunity to purchase tickets by creating an extra line of defense against bots and professional resellers who are looking to sell tickets for profit. The process includes three steps:

Step 1: Registration

By registering for the Verified Fan Onsale, you are letting us know that you’re interested in purchasing tickets. From the registration page, you sign into or create your account, select your preferred show(s) and register your email and phone number. Once completed, you’ll automatically receive a confirmation email letting you know that we got your request. It’s quick, easy and free to sign up.

Step 2: Verification

Next, Ticketmaster vets each request by confirming it belongs to an individual — not a bot — and that it hasn’t been tied to irregular behaviors that could be a sign of a professional seller attempting to access the sale.

Step 3: Access Code or Waitlist

When demand exceeds availability, a limited number of registered Verified Fans will get access to the sale and others will be placed on a waitlist. You’ll receive an email on Wednesday, November 8 letting you know which group you’re in. If selected to get access to the sale, you’ll receive a unique access code and purchase link via text message the day prior to your Verified Fan Onsale.

While no system can guarantee that all fans will get tickets to the show(s) they’re interested in, the Verified Fan program works to significantly block bots and professional resellers from competing against fans for tickets during the sale.

Common Questions

How do i register.

  • To register, please visit: HERE
  • Sign in using your My Account or create an account if you don’t have one.
  • Tell us what show you’re interested in and submit your registration; we’ll keep you up to date with all the latest information.

We’ll send you a confirmation email to let you know your registration was successful and what you can expect next.

If I receive access to the Verified Fan sale, am I guaranteed tickets?

No. Access means you have an opportunity to join the Verified Fan sale but it is not a guarantee you’ll be able to purchase tickets. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

If I received access to the Verified Fan sale, how do I purchase tickets?

  • At the specified time, click the link you were sent.
  • You’ll enter the Smart Queue. To keep your place in line, stay on the page and don’t refresh. Do not open more than one browser window.
  • Once it’s your turn, shop for tickets by using your unique access code. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis while currently-available inventory lasts and aren’t guaranteed. Each event has a strict four (4) ticket limit per customer.
  • Then checkout!

How many tickets can I buy with my code?

You can purchase up to 4 tickets for the one show indicated in the text you received.

When will the Waiting Room open?

The Waiting Room will open 30 minutes before the designated Verified Fan sale window begins. When the Verified Fan sale begins, fans in the Waiting Room are assigned a spot in line. Once you reach the end of the queue, you’ll have an opportunity to shop for tickets. Stay on the page and don’t refresh or you may lose your spot in line.

You must use the same Ticketmaster account that you registered with to join the Waiting Room.

How do I join the queue?

Sign in through the link that we texted to the phone number you provided during registration to access the queue.

What can I do to prepare?

If you’ve been selected to participate in the Verified Fan sale, we recommend that you prepare by signing into your Ticketmaster account before the Verified Fan sale to make sure your billing information is up to date. This will help speed up the checkout process after you’ve selected the tickets you want to buy.

My link isn’t working. What should I do?

If you registered and received access to shop for tickets through text or email from Ticketmaster, but the link’s not working, try checking these things first:

  • Make sure the event is on sale. Links are sent out before the event goes on sale but won’t work until the event is actually on sale.
  • You must be signed in with the same email address you used to register for the Verified Fan sale.

Will there be other ways to buy Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour tickets?

The only official way to get Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour tickets is through the Ticketmaster Verified Fan Onsale or through certain other limited tour-sponsored onsale opportunities for specific shows. Be on the lookout for information on these other opportunities where available.

I got an email saying I’m on the waitlist. What does that mean?

If you’re currently on the waitlist, stay tuned — you may still have an opportunity to shop for tickets.

When there are more fans than there are tickets, a limited number of fans will get access to join at the start of the Verified Fan sale and others will be placed on the waitlist.

More fans may get access to join the Verified Fan sale based on ticket availability. If you’re selected, you will receive a text with a link to join the Verified Fan sale. Please note, moving off the waitlist does not guarantee access to tickets. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

Can I register more than once to increase the likelihood that I am able to purchase tickets ?

Registering more than once for a specific event does not increase the likelihood that you are able to purchase tickets . If you want to change the event date you selected after you’ve registered, you can make those edits while the registration window is still open. We only keep the last registration you submitted.

I received a confirmation email after I registered, what does that mean?

The email is simply to inform you that we have received your registration and will be working to verify your account. It doesn’t guarantee that you will be selected for the Verified Fan sale access. A second email will be sent on Wednesday, November 8 letting you know if you will get access to the sale or if you’ve been placed on the waitlist. If selected, the day prior to your Verified Fan sale you’ll receive a text message with a unique access code and link to use.

I’m a real fan of this artist, and not a bot or reseller. Why didn’t I get access?

Selection is not a measure of how big a fan anybody is. Sometimes there simply aren’t enough tickets for everyone. When demand exceeds availability, a limited number of fans get access to the Verified Fan sale, and others must be placed on the waitlist. The number of fans who receive access depends on the number of tickets currently available — this is done to help create a less crowded ticket shopping experience for fans.

How will I know if I’ve been granted access to the Verified Fan sale after I’ve been placed on the waitlist?

If selected, you will receive a text with a unique access code and link to the ticket sale. In the event of any SMS/texting delivery issues, we’ll email your unique access code and link to the email address associated with your Ticketmaster account that you used to register. Access to the Verified Fan Onsale does not guarantee tickets. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis while currently-available inventory lasts. If you’re sent a unique access code and link you should join the Verified Fan sale as soon as possible for your opportunity to purchase tickets.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is finally coming to Canada with 6 Toronto shows

Taylor Swift is finally booking an Eras Tour stop in Toronto and making amends with a six-show stint in the city.

The “Anti-Hero” singer-songwriter announced on Thursday that she will be spending almost two weeks in Toronto in the fall of 2024.

  • The information you need to know, sent directly to you: Download the CTV News App

Her first string of concerts is booked at the Rogers Centre — a venue with a capacity of more than 50,000 — on Nov. 14, 15, and 16, followed by another stint on Nov 21, 22, and 23.

“Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era,” Swift teased on Twitter while announcing the second leg of her tour coming to Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis and Toronto.

The mega pop star said tickets aren’t on sale yet, but they will be on Wednesday . In the meantime, verified fan registration for Toronto shows is now open.

American musician Gracie Abrams, who Swift has called one of her favourite friends while performing together in Ohio, will be joining her on stage in Toronto.

In June, Canadian fans were left in the lurch when Swift announced 40 new dates for her Eras Tour, including Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia – skipping Canada entirely.

It seems Swift is eager to smooth over the rough patch with Canadians – the only other cities that got six shows were Los Angeles and Singapore.

The original omission pushed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to tweet at Swift with paraphrased lyrics from her own songs, posting, "It's me, hi. I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don't make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon."

Following the news of Swift's tour making it north of the U.S. border, the prime minister tweeted, "We're ready for it."

We’re ready for it. — Justin Trudeau (@JustinTrudeau) August 3, 2023

TAYLOR SWIFT WILL HAVE ‘ENORMOUS’ IMPACT ON TORONTO

Destinations Toronto Executive Vice President Andrew Weir said Swift’s shows will have an “enormous” impact on the city’s tourism and hospitality industries when they need it most.

“That's a critical time for our industry, just as the time when a lot of business travel starts to subside, leisure travel for the holidays hasn't really picked up yet,” Weir told CP24.

As the only city in the country with shows booked, Weir said he expects the geographic radius of Swifties inundating Toronto will be significant, and in turn, reflect a substantial monetary value.

On average, Era Tour fans are spending U.S. $1,300 – equivalent to more than $1,700 in Canada – on tickets, merchandise, alcohol, food, parking and hotels, Canadian music correspondent Eric Alper told CP24.

when is taylor swift canada tour

“You tabulate that, she could be raking in anywhere between $75 million and $100 million just based on these six dates alone,” Alper said.

He notes that several days linger between Swift’s Toronto shows, which could leave room for more dates to be announced, or even a quick visit to stages in another major city, like Montreal or Vancouver.

THE ERAS TOUR SO FAR

The first leg of the Eras Tour launched in March with the final date booked in Brazil at the end of November 2023.After a few months to rest her vocal cords, Swift will be back on stage in Tokyo in February 2024.

The three-hour concert takes fans through the eras of the Grammy-winner’s 17-year career, spanning from “Love Story” in her earliest era to her most recent “Anti-Hero.”

With the first stretch of the tour nearly in the rear-view, Swift wrote, “really blows my mind that we have one last city on the US leg,” on Instagram this week before heading to Santa Clara.

While Canadian Swifties are rejoicing about the new tour dates, securing tickets could be a battle in itself. When tickets for the first leg of her Eras Tour were released, Swift broke Ticketmaster with insufficient supply to meet the extraordinary fan demand.

The U.S. will not have seen the last of the Eras Tour next week after all. Taylor Swift will bring her stadium outing back to the United States and Canada in October and November… not of this year, but in 2024.

Swift announced 15 more shows in four North American cities on Thursday morning, including a long-awaited answer to the musical question: What about Canada? The Eras Tour will have what for now are its concluding dates in November 2024 with six shows in Toronto, Ontario at the Rogers Centre.

“Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era,” Swift wrote on social media. “Miami, New Orleans, Indy and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024 with  @gracieabrams ! Verified fan registration for all shows is open now – visit TaylorSwift.com for more information.”

At Swift’s website, fans are being informed that Verified Fan registration for the U.S. shows next year is open through Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. ET. The actual on-sale date for tickets has not yet been revealed but will be sent to Verified Fan registrants. Following what will likely be an instantaneous sellout, resale tickets for the added shows will also become available on sites such as Vividseats , Stubhub and Seatgeek .

Notably, Swift did not say these were the final dates, leaving the door open for possibly still more additions to the tour, after it makes its unexpected trip back to North American home territory following an existing 2024 itinerary that takes the Eras Tour throughout Europe.

From there, Swift will fill out the rest of this year with shows in Latin America, albeit at a less constant pace than the concerts that have had her on the go in the States since the Eras Tour opened in Arizona on March 17. She performs along with guest Sabrina Carpenter in Mexico City Aug. 24-27, Buenos Aires Nov. 9-11, Rio de Janeiro Nov. 17-19 and Sao Paulo Nov. 24-26.

The tour picks up in 2024 with four shows in Tokyo Feb. 7-10 before moving on to Sydney, Australia later in February and Singapore in March. A European leg of the tour begins in earnest with four nights in Paris May 9-12, wrapping up Aug. 17 with the last of six shows scheduled for London’s Wembley Stadium. Swift then has a two-month gap in her schedule before resuming in Toronto Nov. 14.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour coming to Canada with six nights at Toronto’s Rogers Centre

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour will make its way to Canada next year with six nights booked at Toronto’s Rogers Centre .

The singer-songwriter announced on Thursday that she will perform Nov. 14 to 16, and Nov. 21 to 23, 2024 – the only Canadian city with stops on her schedule.

Rogers Communications, which is a presenting sponsor, says the Cruel Summer singer is the first artist to perform six nights at the stadium in a single tour.

Tickets go on sale Aug. 9, with Verified Fan registration open now through Saturday at 5 p.m.

Minutes after the announcement went live, Ticketmaster reported “heavy traffic” on their Verified Fan webpage, which the platform says is meant as a protective measure against online scalper bots.

Ms. Swift began her tour earlier this year, performing songs from her chart-topping career against the backdrop of an elaborate stage design for each album.

Demand for tickets has led to outages on Ticketmaster and led to significant spikes in tourism in the markets she visits.

When an earlier tour date announcement didn’t include any Canadian dates, many Swifties expressed their outrage online, leading some observers to wonder why the performer would skip over the country when she hadn’t performed here since 2018.

Ms. Swift’s perceived snub even reached the House of Commons, with a Conservative MP saying he would file an “official” grievance “on behalf of all Swifties,” while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a plea on social media for the singer to come to Canada .

Rogers says they helped arrange the Toronto stop.

“We’ve been working on this for weeks and we’re thrilled to bring her tour to Canada,” said Terrie Tweddle, chief brand and communications officer at Rogers Communications, in a statement.

The hitmaker is set to wrap the first U.S. leg of her tour next week with six shows in Los Angeles, after which she heads abroad.

As part of Thursday’s announcement, Ms. Swift also announced dates in Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis.

Taylor Swift is coming to Canada. Whether you can actually get tickets is another matter

Ticket frenzy (taylor's version) expected as pop star has 6 shows in toronto next year.

Social Sharing

Until now, Canadian fans have had to watch Taylor Switch's ever-expanding Eras tour through clips of sold-out shows elsewhere. A fortunate few even left the country just to attend a concert.

But the pop megastar is coming to Canada after all, with six dates over a 10-day period at the Rogers Centre in Toronto in November 2024.

As news dropped on Thursday that Canada was being added to the international tour that began last March, fans wasted no time in trying to secure tickets.

"We already registered for tickets this morning to buy them next week," said one woman near the Rogers Centre, standing with a pre-teen girl who added, "I'm really excited to go. I love Taylor Swift."

  • Look what you made her do: Taylor Swift announces 6 Toronto dates for 2024

Tickets go on sale Wednesday. "Swifties" had a Saturday deadline to register for a limited number of tickets through Ticketmaster's  verified fan program  and were expected to receive an email on Tuesday either giving them an access code or telling them they're on a wait list.

The program helps filter out buyers looking to resell tickets, but Ticketmaster cautions that "registration does not guarantee tickets."

Taylor Swift fans rejoice at Toronto tour dates

"We expect there will be more demand than there are tickets available," Ticketmaster said.

Swift has already been selling out stadiums in the U.S. and Europe on her current tour. It's been a difficult ticket to get. Before the Toronto dates were announced, some Canadians bought tickets to see Swift overseas.

Blake Gill from Guelph, Ont., bought tickets to a show in France next spring, after getting tired of waiting to see if there would be stops in Canada. He also reasoned that it was a "perfect excuse to go to Europe."

In Vancouver, CBC News asked fans whether they would try to travel to Toronto for one of the shows.

"It's so hard to go there. It's so far," said one woman who still wants to try to attend because she's been a big fan since she was 10.

Vancouver Taylor Swift fans disappointed about Toronto-only tour dates

In Toronto, fans were asked whether Swift should take the tour to other cities in Canada.

"Yeah, absolutely, she should be going to other places in Canada. It's a very big country," one woman said.

Why only Toronto?

"It comes down to money," as to why the U.S. singer-songwriter is limiting her Canadian dates to the Rogers Centre, said University of Toronto business professor Daniel Tsai.

"The big issue here is you need scale. You need to have enough people in the seats to justify a trip.

"This is across the border as well, so she's got a huge entourage. She's got a lot of logistics and freight. They have to assemble equipment to do a custom show everywhere they go."

Economic impact 'tremendous'

Andrew Weir, executive vice-president of Destination Toronto, says the trickle-down effect these shows will have on other businesses in the city will be significant.

"It's more than just a concert ticket," he said.

  • Analysis Is Taylor Swift saving the economy?
  • Who's really to blame for Taylor Swift's Ticketmaster fiasco?

"They consume not only the event they're here for, the concert, but also hotels, restaurants, probably go do some other things while they're in town, do some shopping.

"So the economic impact is tremendous, and we know this is the kind of event that will draw visitors."

In June, online research company QuestionPro released the results of a study of fan spending, which estimated the Eras tour will generate $5 billion US in economic activity in the United States. It said the average concertgoer was spending $1,300 per show.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift will be spending a little extra time up north next year. Three months after announcing that her ongoing global Eras Tour will open for several shows in Toronto in 2024, the 33-year-old pop star has now added a trio of additional dates to her Canadian leg.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Taylor’s Version’ Songs: Every ‘From The Vault’ Track Ranked (So Far)

All of the new shows will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, at BC Place, with Swift set to perform three consecutive nights from Dec. 6 to 8. The Vancouver shows are slated to follow six Eras Tour offerings at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Trending on Billboard

Swift is currently on the last few days of a two-month break from touring , having finished out her first round of U.S. and Mexico shows in late August. Starting Nov. 9, she’ll pick right back up with a string of performances in Argentina and Brazil.

After that, she’ll spend pretty much all of 2024 on the road, with Eras shows planned for Asia, Europe and Australia before swinging back around to the States next October. Already, the trek has reportedly made Swift a billionaire , as projected by Bloomberg last week.

Registration for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan presale is already open for Swift’s new Vancouver dates. Find more information here .

Taylor Swift Has Some Good News for Justin Trudeau

Portrait of Justin Curto

Update, Thursday, November 2: Big congrats to Justin Trudeau. His punny plea for Taylor Swift to perform in his country was already answered back in August, when Swift announced the Canadian leg of her Eras tour, opened by Gracie Abrams, would include six dates in Toronto in November 2024. But Trudeau now has even more cause to celebrate, because Swift has announced that she is adding three shows in Vancouver in December 2024. That’s just three more potential date nights for the country’s recently-single prime minister, eh?

Original story published August 3, 2023 follows.

Twenty-four hours into the most famous separation in Canadian history, Justin Trudeau sure could use a win. Well, Taylor Swift will speak now. The pop star finally announced Canadian stops on her Eras tour , a month after Trudeau thirstily begged her to come to his country. And hey, by the time Swift rolls into town in fall 2024, the prime minister will be single and ready to mingle with the moms in the crowd. She’s currently playing six nights in the Six, all at Toronto’s Rogers Center. Guess Trudeau will have to do without an Ottawa date. The new shows are part of a second North American leg for the tour, which will also include stands in Miami, New Orleans, and Indianapolis. They’re set to follow next year’s Asian and European runs, and will be opened by Gracie Abrams. “Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era 😝,” Swift tweeted with the news. Unless, of course, you’re Justin Trudeau.

About Gracie Abrams Since making her debut with “Mean It” in 2019, Gracie Abrams has emerged as one of the most compelling songwriters of her generation. A consummate songwriter who names Joni Mitchell as her most formative influence, she penned her first song at age 8, then went on to amass a devoted following on the strength of her emotionally intimate lyrics. Her debut project  minor  was released in summer 2020. The 7-song effort features her beloved singles “21,” “I miss you, I’m sorry,” and “Long Sleeves.” In 2021, Abrams returned with  This Is What It Feels Like , a 12-track project exploring such complex emotions as self-betrayal, insecurity, and failed attempts at connection. Soon after completing her sold-out North American headline tour for  This Is What It Feels Like , she set to work on her long-awaited debut album. Released in February, and produced by  Aaron Dessner  of  The National ,  Good Riddance  finds  Abrams  opening up about a recent period of intense transformation, bringing even more honesty and depth to her lyrical storytelling.  Praising  Good Riddance  as “one of 2023’s best debuts,”  Rolling Stone  hailed  Abrams  as “one of pop’s buzziest young artists.” Upon its release Abrams set out on a sold-out North American headline tour and is currently supporting on select dates of the blockbuster Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour.  Abrams just released a deluxe version of  Good Riddance  featuring four additional songs.

Cost, stadium size, fewer options: Possible reasons Taylor Swift has skipped Canada

Taylor Swift's Canadian fans were left heartbroken and confused this week as they tried to understand why the pop superstar seems prepared to skip their country on her Eras Tour.

Swift announced nearly 40 new dates on a tour that sees her wind through Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia over the next year. Missing from the latest round of shows are stops in Canada.

It's raised questions why the "Cruel Summer" singer-songwriter, who's in the midst of an extensive summer tour in the United States, would choose not to bring her career-spanning, three-hour show to Canada.

Neither Swift nor her management has addressed the decision, while her record label Universal Music Canada declined to comment.

Some in the music industry suggest that it's hard to pin down just one possible reason.

"You're trying to get into the mind of the person who has the largest parasocial relationship with everyone in the world," said Liam Killeen, who manages Canadian acts the Tea Party and Classified at Coalition Music.

"We just don't know what she thinks."

Here are some factors that may have affected why Canadian Swifties can't have nice things:

VENUE SIZE MATTERS:

When it comes to selling out a stadium show, Canada just can't size up to the competition. Many of Swift's U.S. concerts were booked in massive venues, including the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, which was able to hold up to 73,000 people for each of the two nights she played, while the new SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles will bring in 69,000 people per show over five nights in August. Canada's stadiums don't compete. For instance, the Rogers Centre in Toronto tops out around 55,000 people for concerts, while other stadiums are the same size or smaller, meaning Swift would pull in less revenue per performance.

CANADA IS EXPENSIVE: Combine fewer stadium tickets to sell with the weaker Canadian dollar and the allure of playing our biggest cities begins to fade for some foreign acts. One local music agency representative says unfavourable exchange rates can put extra pressure on trying to balance profits without a significant hike to ticket prices. With many concertgoers facing a rising cost of living, some artists have said they don't want to carry the burden of fans thinking they're overcharging for the experience. Swift has already faced a round of negative attention over markups for her U.S. concerts that saw some fans paying thousands of dollars for resold tickets.

NO BAD BLOOD, BUT SHE DOESN'T NEED US:

Sure, it seems a given that Swift would schedule at least one concert date in Canada, especially since she's played the country on all of her previous tours. And most pop superstars wind through at least Toronto, if not other major cities such as Vancouver and Montreal. But some industry observers suggest that with Swift playing more than 50 dates south of the border this year, it's possible her tour bookers decided Canadian fans already had ample opportunities to catch her in the United States.

Todd Jenereaux, an executive at Republic Live, which organizes the Boots & Hearts country music festival in Oro-Medonte, Ont., said many Canadians are willing to travel far and wide for their favourite musicians.

"They're quite prepared, especially in the summer, to roll it into a vacation," he said. "I'll bet you the Nashville stops had lots of Canadians at the Taylor Swift shows, because it becomes part of tourism. They book a weekend, have their concert tickets, and they do Nashville stuff the rest of the time."

WE COULD STILL GET BACK TOGETHER?:

For all the fuss around the lack of Canadian dates, it's quite possible Swift hasn't written us off. Major stadium tours sometimes wind through North America for a victory lap, as Elton John did with his retirement tour. John started in North America and came back twice more over several years. Swift's Eras Tour captures her 10 studio albums to this point and comes as she re-records and re-releases her entire back catalogue. With several more albums to go, that means there could still be plenty of blank space left on her tour schedule for the coming years to hit up at least a few provinces.

Taylor Swift’s Best Bridges, Ranked

A Taylor Swift song is nothing without its bridge. The star's strongest skills as a storyteller and lyricist are on full display in that critical moment, which marks a noticeable shift in the song, whether it’s in the narrative, tone, tempo, or a combination of the three. And for Swift, the bridge is often what elevates a good song to a truly great one . Over the course of her career, she’s introduced songs with bridges that run the emotional spectrum—some are meant to be screamed at the top of your lungs, while others can be quietly sung through tears.

With over 240 songs across 10 original studio and 4 re-recorded albums , Swift has a bridge for just about every type of emotional catharsis. We decided to go through her discography to decide on the very best. To determine what makes for a bridge of superior caliber, we each compiled our own individual rankings, taking into account how the bridge fits in with each song, and then we added up those results.

25. “Love Story”

“Love Story,” the lead single off 2008’s Fearless , put Swift in the mainstream. It shot to the top of different Billboard charts and solidified her status as a crossover artist . In the song, Swift invokes Romeo and Juliet to tell the story of a seemingly doomed young couple with the bridge bringing down the tempo to signify her growing apprehension—that is, until Romeo gets down on one knee and the fairytale ends happily.— Moises Mendez II

Best line: "My faith in you was fading, when I met you on the outskirts of town"

24. “right where you left me”

The “evermore” bonus track feels more like a Gothic short story than a song. It tells the story of a woman frozen in time, haunting the restaurant where she had her heart broken. In the bridge, Swift shares what the rumor mill is saying about the “woman who lives in delusion” before changing the pronouns to reveal she’s talking about herself. “Time went on for everybody else, she won't know it,” she sings, perfectly encapsulating the shame that comes from living in the past while everyone around you moves on.— Samantha Cooney

Best line: "She's still 23 inside her fantasy, how it was supposed to be"

23. “Mr. Perfectly Fine”

Every major pop star needs a f-ck you anthem dedicated to someone who has done them wrong. When “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” rumored to be about Joe Jonas, reaches the bridge, it sounds like Swift is kicking a door open to a new phase of her life without her Perfectly Fine man.— MM

Best line: "Now I'm Miss Gonna Be Alright Someday, and someday, maybe you'll miss me, but by then, you'll be Mr. Too Late"

22. “Back to December”

Closing a chapter with someone you care about deeply is one of the most heartbreaking things anyone can go through, and Swift expertly details that pain in “Back to December,” singing, “It turns out freedom ain't nothing but missin' you, wishin' I'd realized what I had when you were mine ”—some of the most tragic lyrics in her entire discography. The bridge only twists the knife even deeper as she sings about how she’d do everything differently if she were given a second chance.— MM

Best line: I'd go back in time and change it, but I can't. So, if the chain is on your door, I understand"

21. “You're On Your Own, Kid”

Though this Midnights track is carried by a fast and light beat, the heart of the song, about yearning for and experiencing fame, is quite devastating. The price of celebrity is summed up in the haunting lines of its bridge: “The jokes weren’t funny, I took the money. My friends from home don’t know what to say.”— Annabel Gutterman

Best line: "So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it. You’ve got no reason to be afraid"

20. “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve”

Even though it was a bonus track, “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” quickly became a standout (if not the best song) of Midnights . Feverish and wild, the song unravels like a thunderstorm, as Swift wades through a toxic relationship over pulsing drums and haunting synths. In the eye of the storm is the bridge—a pleading call to a higher power for rest, followed by an earth-shattering line that further cements Swift’s lyrical genius: “I regret you all the time.”— Rachel Sonis

Best line: "I regret you all the time"

19. "betty"

At the center of the Betty/James/Inez teenage love triangle drawn out in the folklore standout “betty” is the question: “What if?” What if James wasn’t such a boy about things? What if he told Betty how he really felt? What if Inez never spread those “rumors” about James cheating with her on Betty? But in the bridge, where Swift often makes her biggest revelations, the “what if’s” give way to the truth about James’ restless summer spent with Inez, when he was really thinking about Betty. A moment of unbearable release—and of stinging regret.— RS

Best line: "I dreamt of you all summer long"

18. "Enchanted"

This Speak Now song had a resurgence on TikTok last year, with the bridge appearing everywhere, bringing everyone back to 2010. In the bridge, Swift blissfully blends the confidence in her feelings of falling for someone with the insecurity of not knowing if that person is in love with someone else. She perfectly describes meeting someone for the first time and instantly feeling enchanted. That someone is said to be Adam Young, the frontman of Owl City. Swift said an interview around the time the album came out that she wrote the song about a guy she was emailing and when they met, he mentioned being “wonderstruck,” which she incorporated into the tune. In a 2011 interview with Us Weekly , Young said the song is about him and responded to it with a song of his own.— MM

Best line: "Please, don't be in love with someone else. Please, don't have somebody waiting on you"

17. “Out of the Woods”

1989 —Swift’s first full-on foray into pop music—is surprisingly sparse when it comes to soul-bearing bridges. (Case in point: “Style,” my all-time favorite Swift song, has a lyrically thin bridge). The one exception is “Out of the Woods,” with a bridge that serves as the song’s emotional and musical highpoint. Swift’s voice explodes as she describes a crash, and a snowmobile accident serves as a metaphor for the breakdown of a relationship. Despite the chaos and comedowns (“Remember when you said you couldn’t take the heat?”), the bridge ends with the hope that the relationship can make it, even if only for another day (“When the sun came up, you were looking at me.”)— SC

Best line: "Remember when you hit the brakes too soon? Twenty stitches in a hospital room"

16. “Treacherous”

This song from Red starts off soft and slow with lyrics that point to how easy it is to be consumed by the promise of love, even if that love is risky. The plucky chorus gives way to a powerful bridge that is most definitely meant to be screamed: “Two headlights shine through the sleepless night. And I will get you, get you alone.”— AG

Best line: "That nothing safe is worth the drive"

15. “You’re Losing Me”

“You’re Losing Me” was released as a vault song off Midnights just a month after it was reported Swift and her longtime boyfriend had split. While the bulk of the song is underwhelming, the bridge ranks among her best-ever, with some of her most emotionally raw songwriting. The lyrics balance righteous anger about not being given attention by a partner (“I’m the best thing at this party”) with anxious resignation about why it ended. It all builds up to the barnburner of a lyric: “And I wouldn’t marry me either.”— SC

Best line: "And I wouldn't marry me either. A pathological people pleaser. Who only wanted you to see her"

14. “Dress”

“Dress” is Swift’s most outwardly sexy song: the chorus is anchored around the line, “Only bought this dress so you could take it off.” But the bridge reveals the bluff: this is really a song about revealing the worst parts of yourself to someone and still having them want you. It’s all incredibly romantic and intimate.— SC

Best line: "Even in my worst lies you saw the truth in me"

13. "Long Live"

Originally written as a love letter to Swift’s band and fans, the lyrics in this Speak Now song remind us all that there is so much beauty in living in the present, and even more beauty in being able to look back and remember how that present felt. Though much of “Long Live” is a celebration of memories, the bridge coalesces into a striking direct plea from Swift to protect and honor how the past interacts with the future.— AG

Best line: "If you have children someday, when they point to the pictures, please, tell ‘em my name"

12. “champagne problems”

Swift tells the audience at the Eras Tour that she wrote one particular song during the pandemic with the hopes she’d one day hear fans scream its bridge in a stadium. That song is called “champagne problems”—and boy did I have fun screaming “what a shame she’s f-cked in the head” in Philadelphia last May. The song is a soft piano ballad about turning down a marriage proposal, and the bridge swells with scenes of devastation. The bridge’s bittersweet end promises the heartbroken ex will “find the real thing instead.” It’s a cathartic moment in the song—and at the show.— SC

Best line: "She would've made such a lovely bride. What a shame she's fucked in the head, they said"

11. “You Belong With Me”

“You Belong With Me” is the quintessential country-pop song of 2009. It’s the type of song that gets you out of your seat. It begs to be scream-sung at the top of your lungs with your best friends by your side, especially the bridge, which captures the yearning of wanting your crush to see that you’re perfect for him.— MM

Best line: "I know your favorite songs, and you tell me 'bout your dreams. Think I know where you belong, think I know it's with me"

10. “Death By A Thousand Cuts”

A Taylor Swift bridge ranking would not be complete without one that kind of feels like a rant—and “Death By a Thousand Cuts” is it. A song about an agonizing death of a relationship, what’s most interesting about this bridge is that it’s a stream of consciousness, with every line as cutting as the next, as Swift’s staccato delivery accentuates every dig. While her lover might’ve fired the first shot, Swift is here to deliver the final blow.— RS

Best Line: "Paper cut stings from our paper thin plans"

9. “illicit affairs”

Most of this folklore song is a slow and often unsettling dissection of the true cost of infidelity. But Swift’s crooning turns much louder as she cries out in the bridge how, exactly, this relationship has broken her apart (she literally references needing to scream). It’s these lyrics that really crystallize how confusing it is to love a person who never really belonged to you.— AG

Best line: "You showed me colors you know I can’t see with anyone else"

8. "Fifteen"

When Swift set to write the devastatingly vulnerable ballad “Fifteen,” she started with the bridge. “I started everything with the line ‘Abigail gave everything she had to a boy who changed his mind’ and wrote everything else from that point, almost backwards,” Swift said of the song in her track-by-track explanation of the album on Big Machine Records’ website. That line makes not only the bridge, but the entire song—honest and searing, yet overflowing with sisterly love and empathy for her childhood best friend Abigail Anderson, as she goes through a brutal breakup.— RS

Best Line: "Abigail gave everything she had to a boy who changed his mind. And we both cried"

7. "the last great american dynasty "

Of all the “mad” characters that exist in the folklore universe, Swift’s sharp retelling of American heiress and socialite Rebekah Harkness’ story and her notorious parties at the “Holiday House” mansion in Rhode Island takes the cake. Steeped in fascinating tidbits about her life, Swift recounts how Harkness, who inherited the riches from her oil tycoon husband’s untimely death and even became the richest woman in America at one point, was considered an outcast and a madwoman for her unconventional choices and lavish lifestyle. Swift, of course, is not-so-subtly making connections to her own life here—and really lays it bare in the bridge: Swift bought Holiday House (now called “High Watch”) in 2013, a place where many of her own dalliances have resulted in serious drama , too. A kiss-off to the haters, Swift is the new madwoman in town, and she doesn’t really care what anyone thinks. Rebekah would, no doubt, be proud.— RS

Best line: "Free of women with madness, their men in bad habits. And then it was bought by me"

6. "Last Kiss"

Talk about emotional catharsis! This Speak Now song describes a terrible, consuming breakup, and what it feels like to obsess over the final moments of a relationship. The steady beat swells up at the bridge and suddenly the full intensity of the track emerges as Swift’s voice explodes. The desperation and yearning is palpable—and so is the belief that one day those memories won’t feel so crushing.— AG

Best line: "So I’ll watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep. And I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe"

5. "Getaway Car"

There’s a reason the behind-the-scenes video of Swift and Jack Antonoff writing the “Getaway Car” bridge has become Swiftie lore. It’s exhilarating to watch Swift and Antonoff compose a cinematic bridge with strong storytelling in real time. The song turns Swift into an outlaw running from the heart she broke. In the bridge, Swift takes some responsibility—but also tells her partner he shouldn’t be surprised she ditched him in a motel bar. Try not to have fun belting this (especially when Swift goes full Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan on “when I switch to the other si-i-i-i-ide).— SC

Best line: "It's no surprise I turned you in. 'Cause us traitors never win"

4. "Dear John"

The blueprint for Taylor Swift’s best bridge (more on that later) is all over this Speak Now song, one of Swift’s best breakup anthems, ever. As she unpacks a relationship with an older man (famously rumored to be John Mayer), Swift takes aim at how it feels to be taken advantage of by someone so manipulative and deceitful. In the bridge, Swift crucially reclaims the power she lost, directly calling out this toxic behavior, and rising above it. This is a moment of supreme clarity—impressive for anyone to capture so acutely, let alone from someone so young (Swift was just 21 when this album was released).— AG

Best line: "You are an expert at sorry and keeping lines blurry"

3. "august"

By the time “august” gets to the bridge, there’s an explosion of emotions. It’s the part of the song where, if you’re listening in the car, no matter who you're with, you turn the volume up to scream, “Back when we were still changing for the better!” The song sounds like a balmy summer day, capturing exactly how it feels to fall in love with someone who makes you feel warm inside, but ends up breaking your heart by slipping away.— MM

Best line: "So much for summer love and saying us, 'cause you weren't mine to lose"

2. “Cruel Summer”

Is there anything better than screaming the bridge “Cruel Summer” at the top of your lungs? Screaming the bridge while you have a new crush for the summer, maybe. “Cruel Summer” is definitely one of Swift’s sweatiest numbers—a song that is best played on a hot July day as the sun sets and the night has promise of meeting up with someone you’re “just texting,” but that no one knows about yet. The hushed secrets and that hurts-so-good feeling at the start of a relationship is what she’s getting at—that is, until she blurts out her biggest secret of all in the bridge: “I love you, ain’t that the worst thing you’ve ever heard?” Truly, the Queen of Catharsis.— RS

Best line: "I scream, ‘For whatever it’s worth, I love you, ain’t that the worst thing you’ve ever heard?’"

1. "All Too Well"

It should come as no surprise that Swift’s magnum opus contains her best bridge (and we’re not talking about the 10 minute version ). All Too Well is not so much a breakup song as it is an in-depth postmortem on a past relationship. In cutting specificities, Swift holds to the light the seemingly small, everyday moments that come from sharing a life with someone else, revealing how much love can be derived there. While much of the song focuses on these little flashes of memory (the scarf, the twin sized-bed, the refrigerator light), the bridge takes stock of the damage that’s been inflicted in the aftermath. It’s her best bridge because it’s so vulnerable. Her rage and confusion are crystal clear as she questions how everything came crashing down.— AG

Best line: "And you call me up again, just to break me like a promise. So casually cruel in the name of being honest"

Canada's budget 2024: The government wants to help you get Taylor Swift tickets and avoid your boss

The budget contained several measures that won't make big headlines

OTTAWA – Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland unveiled a budget with new taxes on wealthy Canadians, a bundle of new spending initiatives, and lots of red ink on Tuesday, but also contained several measures that won’t make big headlines.

The government wants to help Canadians get Taylor Swift concert tickets, disconnect from their jobs and cancel their cellphones online, among others. Here are some key policies and under-the-radar spending items in this year’s budget.

The right to disconnect

Up to half a million workers in federally regulated sectors like banking, telecommunications and the transportation industry may soon have a right to disconnect from work after hours.

The latest budget commits to invest $700,000 per year for five years to amend the federal Labour Code that would require federally regulated employers to implement a right to disconnect policy that limits all work-related communication outside of an employee’s regular working hours.

“As the nature of work in many industries has become increasingly digital, workers are finding it increasingly difficult to disconnect from their devices and inboxes after hours and on weekends,” the budget reads.

Taylor Swift tickets for all (except resellers)

A budget geared towards Gen Z and Millennials wouldn’t be complete without a reference to Taylor Swift. So, when thousands, if not millions, of Canadians failed to secure tickets to the pop megastar’s Eras Tour stops in Toronto and Vancouver, the Liberals decided they had to act.

In the budget, the government promises to work with provinces to crack down on “fraudulent resellers” who “maliciously” snatch up desirable tickets and boost prices using bots and other unfair techniques.

It will also work towards unspecified “stronger protections” against excess ticketing fees and ensuring people get timely refunds for cancelled events.

But the credibility of these government commitments is cast into doubt when the budget cited the hypothetical example of Toronto Maple Leafs fan “Nick” struggling to get a refund for unnecessary playoff game tickets because the Leafs swept through the first round of the playoffs in four matches.

One government source told National Post that the original example had the Leafs losing in four, but the blurb was edited in the days before the budget. Presumably to avoid any further municipal-federal confrontation.

Capitalizing on capital gains

If you’re anything like the author of these lines, capital gains are just an abstract notion that has little to no bearing on your annual income.

But for 40,000 wealthy Canadians (0.13 per cent of the population), they represent over $250,000 of income yearly and the government says they are undertaxed.

As of now, half of all capital gains (which come from the sale of assets like stocks or a second home) are exempt from taxes. The Liberals say that’s not fair because the wealthier you are, the more your income is made up of capital gains. So, they’re proposing to reduce the tax-exempt amount to one-third for capital gains that exceed $250,000 in a year.

The lower exemption would also apply to businesses but for all capital gains, not just those over $250,000 in a year.

The additional capital gains taxes are expected to rake $19.4 billion into the government’s coffers over the next five years.

Halal mortgages

The number of Muslims in Canada is rising yearly, meaning so is interest for “halal mortgages” which trade interest payments (which are not allowed under Islamic law) for “profit rate.”

In March, the government launched consultations with financial institutions and ethnic communities on how federal policies could be better adapted to their needs. One key finding was expanding access to “alternative financing products” like halal mortgages.

“This could include changes in the tax treatment of these products or a new regulatory sandbox for financial service providers, while ensuring adequate consumer protections are in place,” reads the budget, which promises more details in the 2024 Fall Economic Statement.

CRA fighting the people who don’t want to give up documents

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is tired of fighting for suspected tax dodgers’ documents.

“Limits to existing information gathering powers provided to the CRA under the Income Tax Act impede the effectiveness of the CRA’s compliance and enforcement actions,” the government admits in the budget.

A key solution highlighted in the budget is a new tool called a “Notice of Non-Compliance” that the CRA could issue if a taxpayer being audited or verified has not provided information required by the agency.

The notice recipient would then be fined $50 each day they do not provide the required information to a maximum of $25,000. The notice would be reviewable by both the CRA and the Federal Court at the request of the taxpayer.

If the taxpayer who is suspected of owing over $50,000 in unpaid taxes in a year continues to refuse to comply with a CRA request, the budget also promises to impose a 10 per cent penalty if the government successfully goes through the costly process of getting a compliance order from a judge.

“The proposed penalty… would create an incentive for taxpayers to comply with the original request for information or assistance,” reads the budget.

Cancel your cellphone plan online

Annoyed by the constant barrage of hoops and retention offers cellphone companies throw at you after forcing you to call them to cancel your service? So is the government apparently.

The budget promises to amend the Telecommunications Act to compel cellphone carriers to provide “self-service” options like an online portal to allow customers to change or end their plans with their provider.

The changes will also bar cellphone companies from charging customers a fee to switch to another carrier and they will also have to inform their clients of other plans when their contract is coming to term.

Coachella 2024: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce spotted at Bleachers, Ice Spice sets

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Just as was rumored earlier this week, Taylor Swift opted to use a Blank Space in her schedule this weekend to attend the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in support of pal Jack Antonoff .

It all became clear when Antonoff's band, Bleachers, was performing an energetic set in Coachella's Mojave tent Saturday night, and many attendees had their cell phones trained not on Antonoff, but on the wings stage left.

Caught a glimpse of that oh-so-famous power couple bopping along and having fun while watching Bleachers and Jack Antanoff perform at #Coachella on Saturday. #TaylorSwift #TravisKelce pic.twitter.com/TPtP3D1var — Shad Powers (@shad_powers) April 14, 2024

That’s because there, amid the smoke machine fog, stood two figures with the body size and musical enthusiasm to match Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs player  Travis Kelce . It soon became clear it was the world’s biggest power couple bopping along to the band led by Swift's longtime friend and collaborator Antonoff. The long-held rumor that the two were attending Weekend 1 of Coachella was finally confirmed.

As fans with the right angle scrambled to capture an image or video of the two, Swift and Kelce danced and fist-pumped to the lively Bleachers’ set.

Coachella Weekend 1 live updates: Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish surpise; Taylor Swift spotted

There was no mention of them during the set, nor did the video cameras catch them in the background, but eagle-eyed fans were quickly aware of their presence, thanks mostly to the bright-white baseball cap and oversized glasses being worn by Kelce.

Swift and Kelce were also spotted later Saturday evening catching another Swift collaborator, Ice Spice, performing in the Sahara tent.

The Eras Tour singer  is on a two-month break from her massive three-plus-hour concert and has been spending most of her time in the Los Angeles area.

Antonoff is one of four artists on the Coachella lineup who Swift has worked with. After she didn't pop onstage with Eras Tour (international leg) opener Sabrina Carpenter or "Snow on the Beach" collaborater Lana Del Rey yesterday, many people wondered if Swift would show at all, but the Swifties will be glad to know she and Kelce appear to be living their best lives as spectators this weekend.

Girl in Red is back, baby!

Three years after her first album, the norwegian pop star and taylor swift eras tour opener returns with a polished new record.

when is taylor swift canada tour

Girl in Red’s new album is downright cheerful, and if that doesn’t sound quite on brand, you’re not paying attention. As the title track, “Doing It Again Baby,” unravels from an upbeat, synthy groove into a banjo-forward breakdown, those less in the know might ask: What happened to the homemade bedroom pop that launched Girl in Red (a.k.a. Marie Ulven) from indie stardom to opener for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour?

True, the 25-year-old’s early days as an artist in her native Norway were marked by the wistful singles that have since amassed hundreds of millions of Spotify streams (and also by a relatively successful fingerboarding career ). Dreamy tunes like 2018’s “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend” still haunt the playlists of the young and pining: “I don’t want to be your friend/ I want to kiss your lips,” Ulven sings, her muffled voice emoting all the tortured artistry of a teenager in love.

But in the six years since, Ulven has grown up — as a songwriter, as a producer and as a human.

The Style section

“It’s like I need to update my profile picture, but I need to do it with my entire discography,” she says over Zoom with a slight SoCal surfer inflection. It’s early April, and Ulven is in Nashville rehearsing for an arena tour that’ll take her across the country before summer and throughout Europe in the fall. She continues talking between bites of room service pancakes. “I feel like this new album is the thing that’s going to set that,” she says. “So that when people think of Girl in Red, they don’t think of a demo I posted in 2016.”

Released last week, “I’m Doing It Again Baby!” is a maximalist sophomore album that, while delivering 27 minutes of polished pop, veers into strange and satisfying new territories for Ulven: Her voice stretches like bubble gum over danceable tracks with hints of Rodrigo-esque punk . She’s joined on one by fellow Eras alum Sabrina Carpenter. In short, it’s a lot of fun.

That’s not to say there aren’t songs like 2018’s gentle yet discomforting “Summer Depression” — songs that deal head-on with Ulven’s struggles with mental health. On “Ugly Side,” there’s a particularly vulnerable spoken-word example: “The people I love the most are the ones who get the worst of me/ And I don’t like that.”

So despite a swing between genres, for Ulven it’s the right next step. That’s in no small part because of her growth as a producer; she’s now worked with such big-name producers as Finneas (Billie Eilish’s brother) and, most recently, Norwegian composer Matias Tellez.

“I hear things differently now,” Ulven says. “It’s a natural progression for me, sonically, because I’m just better at what I do.”

Sharp. Witty. Thoughtful. Sign up for the Style Memo newsletter.

Ulven has kept busy despite the three-year gap between albums. For one, she’s been hitting the festival circuit hard. For another, she was scooped up by reigning pop queen Swift for her record-breaking Eras Tour last summer. Although she had conflicting headlining shows, she couldn’t say no. By June, she had jetted off to Chicago to embark on a string of Northwestern shows.

“If [Swift] comes knocking, you do whatever she f---ing says,” Ulven says, half joking.

As Ulven herself notes, we live in a time when the biggest names in pop belong to women. And although she is eager to join those ranks, she’s hesitant to be put in a box with queer contemporaries. It’s true that explicitly gay female artists are having a moment in pop: Look no further than Reneé Rapp or Chappell Roan. But there was a time not long ago when the internet memed the phrase “Do you like Girl in Red?” meaning, “Are you gay?” For Ulven, it got tiresome.

“I would constantly get messages from people being like, ‘I’m not gay, but I really like [your 2018 single] “We Fell in Love in October,”’” she says. “I was like, ‘Why are you saying that? That’s so weird.’”

Instead, her sexuality has been a background to her art only insomuch as her love songs are about women — such as the new album’s delicate “A Night to Remember,” a hopeful, drum-driven bop about meeting her girlfriend at a bar.

But Ulven’s favorite song on the record, she says as she clutches a vinyl copy to her chest, is the opener, “I’m Back,” which explains her absence from music (“I was gone for a minute ’cause I went to get help”). It’s just gentle enough to ease listeners in to the rest of the track list’s high-energy bangers, a sort of introductory lullaby to an album that has an explicitly eager name. Ulven says she cries when she listens to it and cries when she plays it. “It feels like the song that most correctly and truly reflects my reality,” she says.

“I’m Back” is also cheery, certainly, but in a way that feels earned. “Sometimes I get bit by the dark/ It spreads into my heart, takes over me,” Ulven sings, then answers her own doubts: “I believe I will laugh/ I believe it will pass/ I believe there’s hope for me.”

What Taylor Swift Demands On Tour

Taylor Swift performing

When you're Taylor Swift, selling out stadiums night after night on the Easter Egg-packed "Eras Tour" (and bringing in an eye-watering $13 million per performance in the process), you can certainly make a few demands when it comes to what you need backstage to make you feel comfortable. And, it sounds like Swift is making the most of her star power.

Ahead of Swift's wildly successful "Eras" shows heading down under in February 2024, one Australian journalist shared her backstage requests, known as a rider, with the world. And you may be a little surprised at some of the things she asked for. Showbiz reporter Dean McCarthy told 7News that one of the "Love Story" hitmaker's biggest asks when she's on the road is for an iced Americano from Starbucks to be brought to her every day around 11 a.m. McCarthy also claimed Swift asks for at least one chauffeured silver SUV to drive her around and sometimes even has a decoy car in her entourage to divert attention. As for what she asks for in her dressing room before a show? McCarthy shared that Swift apparently likes to have Red Bull and some macaroni and cheese on hand.

Taylor Swift's rider has changed some since the beginning of her career

Dean McCarthy claimed on 7News that Taylor Swift's show rider is a little more extravagant now than earlier in her career. "[Swift] used to be really humble and chill—she used to just have edamame [beans] and some water and some snacks," he said. "Now, she's gone to another level."

However, we know that's maybe not strictly true. That's because Swift has had a few requests on her rider for a while now. The Smoking Gun posted what it claimed was Swift's rider from back in 2008, which likely would have been used during her "Fearless Tour." The list had quite a collection of different items on it, including at least two things she still asks for today: mac and cheese and Red Bull. Swift also asked for cottage cheese, shredded lettuce, red licorice Twizzlers, and two kinds of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. When it comes to her drink requests before a show, Swift's list included Smart Water, Corona beer, and Diet Coke. She also reportedly slurped on chocolate milk and grape juice.

Flowers and cushions have also been amongst Taylor Swift's dressing room demands

As for what else Taylor Swift has been reported to have asked for in preparation for her shows? Flowers and cushions. Metro claimed that when the star was across the pond in London for Capital FM's Summertime Ball in 2013, she had the biggest dressing room at the venue for her entourage of 16 people (via Digital Spy ). The outlet reported that Swift, or at least her team, had requested white lilies, seemingly to make the dressing room feel a little more like home, as well as cushions emblazoned with the Union Jack flag. Though we're guessing she may forgo those now following her split from Brit Joe Alwyn in 2023.

But Swift herself has admitted that she's actually pretty easy to please when it comes to her backstage requests. When asked by Kiss UK in 2015 what she likes to have behind the scenes at her shows, Swift gave a pretty easy answer. "Fried chicken? That's good to have. I'd pick that. I have water and Diet Coke," she said (via Express ). And that makes total sense, seeing as chicken tenders are the one food she wishes she could eat every single day . If that's what it takes for Swift to put on such a sensational show, we're sure everyone is more than eager to give her anything she wants.
