In a pinch, many of us have tried to protect the bottle with the clothes or contents already at hand in our luggage. Although this most commonly-used option may not seem to warrant explanation, there is a science to giving this method a modicum of impact and leak resistance.

Start by slipping the bottle in a thick sock for the first layer of protection. Next, slide the sock-lined bottle into the base of a boot, or thickly and tightly wrap with jeans or a chunky sweater. Lastly, and most importantly, the bottle needs to be in the middle of your suitcase, surrounded on all 6 sides by clothing or other articles.

Advantages: Little or no cost; takes up no additional space in luggage; no need to pack an additional accessory; can pack essentially any size/shaped bottle.

Disadvantages: Keep your fingers crossed if TSA inspects and repacks your bags; moderate risk for breakage/leakage remains.

Wine travel sleeves offer basic, but limited protection

Consider upleveling the basic option simply by bringing a neoprene wine tote/sleeve along and use in lieu of a sock as the first layer of protection. Neoprene is basically a rubber and offers much more impact protection than a cotton sock. It’s also inexpensive and easy to pack prior.

Hard cases are reliable but large

Used by wine professionals who travel with multiple bottles for business (or if you don’t mind hauling an extra bag or possibly paying excess airline fees), by far the best armor for bottles is a hard case. However you want to call it, we often find ourselves flying with wine or other alcohol. I never thought we’d become experts at traveling with wine, but here we have it. Our Experience Flying With Wine

I would like to say that we travel with wine solely because of our profession as food and drink writers. The truth is that we’ve been purchasing wine and traveling with it for almost two decades. In that time, we’ve tried almost everything.

During the early years, we would purchase a case or more from winemakers and have them shipped from Italy or Spain back to the US. We’ve on occasion stuck a wine bottle in our luggage, or a bottle of gin or whiskey, wrapped in an old t-shirt and hoped for the best. 

In recent years, though, we’ve done a lot more research on how to travel with wine. After all, wine is one of our favorite souvenirs to bring back. We are not going to stop traveling with wine. Eventually, we knew our luck would run out and one of those bottles wrapped in a t-shirt would break. Wine is delicate and it must be packed with care.

In this post, we offer a wide variety of options for wine bottle carrier bags. I include full reviews of each option below. Most of them are specifically designed for air travel. Some work well on the ground too. If you are short on time, feel free to use the table below, which includes all our recommendations. I also include travel tips on how to pack wine bottles in different ways and how to keep up-to-date on rules about traveling with wine.

The Best Wine Suitcases And Wine Luggage – Reviews

If you are a wine professional, like we are quickly becoming, you may need to travel with a good amount of wine. This option also works for wine aficionados who know when they leave home for a trip that they are bringing back a good amount of wine. A quality wine suitcase will ensure that any checked wine is well-protected to avoid any breakage. 

Most of these options are hard-sided wine travel suitcases. They are rugged and made to withstand airplane travel. Some also have a little bit of elegance or class to them.

There are a few types of wine luggage in this category. One type looks like typical wheeled luggage and from the outside, no one would know the case contained bottles of wine. Other types look a little more like they contain wine and range from hardcore to practical in style. All of these options have wheels to make them easier to move.

I don’t spend time in the wine luggage reviews below on the dimensions of the case or carrier. This is because they are all roughly the same size. It is also because they are checked luggage so there is no need to worry about carry-on luggage dimensions. 

VinGardeValise Wine Luggage

For true wine professionals, the VinGardeValise Grande 12 Bottle Wine Travel Suitcase is a great option. I like that it looks like regular luggage. This 12 bottle rolling wine bag even has 360-degree spinner wheels so it is easy to maneuver. It’s perfect for both a wine pro and a wine enthusiast.

The wine suitcase holds up to 12 bottles of wine or 10 bottles of wine and two bottles of Champagne, or similarly shaped larger bottles. The interior is flexible, meaning it can hold six bottles along with clothes, or 12 bottles. The case weighs only 13.5 pounds, which means full with 12 bottles it will weigh less than 50 pounds. 

This case includes a TSA-approved lock rather than a hard padlock, which keeps the wine secure but allows TSA inspection. This rolling wine bag has a lot of the same features as the larger version. It transports up to eight bottles and has flexible inserts to carry wine or clothes or personal items. Empty the wine luggage weighs about 12 pounds, which is a lot lighter than the 12 bottle version. 

It includes the HomingPin lost luggage locator and a TSA-approved lock. It comes in blue, silver, and burgundy all of which can be purchased with the customized nameplate. The VinGardeValie Petite has a limited 10-year manufacturer’s warranty.

OTHER WINE SUITCASE BRANDS

Casepro 12 bottle wine travel case.

The CasePro 12 Bottle Wine Travel Case takes things up a notch from the VinGarde Valise. The CasePro holds 12 bottles of wine. It is thermally insulated to maintain wine temperatures during flights. This is a great feature when traveling with high-value wines. There is also space for wine accessories, like corkscrews and aerators, which you might not be able to carry on the airplane. 

The insulated foam can hold almost any bottle size. There are foam neck caps to hold bottles in place. The case is insulated against heat, and cold, and is waterproof. It also protects against shocks and vibration, which is important with wine transport. 

The CasePro also comes as an  8 bottle wine carrier suitcase  and in larger sizes, up to  24 bottles . When comparing the CasePro to the VinGardeValise, I would suggest the CasePro is best for wine professionals whereas the VinGarde Valise would work for wine pros and wine enthusiasts. The case weighs 25 pounds, which would place the total weight filled with 12 bottles of wine at around 60 pounds.

T.Z. CASE INTERNATIONAL 7 BOTTLE WINE ROLLER BAG

The T.Z. Case International 7-Bottle Wheeled Wine Roller Bag is a happy medium between the CasePro and the VinGardeValise.  TZ Case International  is a specialist in travel cases, for beauty products, sporting products, and wine. 

It holds up to seven wine bottles in a rugged molded polypropylene case with flexible foam inserts. The inserts can be removed to hold clothes and other personal items. The luggage is both water and dust-resistant. It’s also lighter weight than the other options, weighing in at only 10 pounds and about 35 pounds loaded with wine. Although not specifically marketed as TSA or FAA-approved like the VinGardeValise there are no reported problems carrying it domestically or internationally. 

I actually like the shape of this, which is less bulky and would make it easier to carry along with a regular suitcase. It’s a good value option in comparison to the others. The TZ Case International is smaller, with fewer bells and whistles, but also is less expensive.

WINE CHECK LUGGAGE

The Wine Check Luggage is a great alternative to the more hefty wine suitcases, above. It is made of high-quality nylon with reinforced stitching. 

Here’s how it works. There are two pieces that are sold separately. There is a wine check bag and styrofoam inserts. Here it is sold as a complete set. The wine check bag is collapsible foldable, making it easy to store when not in use.

The bag and inserts only weigh about five pounds, making it the lightest option on our list. Even when filled with 12 bottles of wine, the total weight would be well less than 50 pounds. It is approved by the FAA and the TSA. 

WINEBUDDY BY MC CASES

Similar to TZ Case International,  MC-Cases  specializes in travel cases, but of a pretty rugged variety. They specialize in cases for high-end cameras and drones, so they are known for transporting high-value items.

The Winebuddy Wine Travel Luggage is made in Germany and stores up to eight wine bottles. It really is a dedicated wine suitcase because the inserts are not as flexible as the VinGardeValise. The inserts are made for standard 750ml bottles. Although it doesn’t come with a TSA-approved lock, it has holes in the case for one. The case is waterproof, dust-proof, and durable.

VINO VOYAGE BY WINE ENTHUSIAST

We’ve been big fans of Wine Enthusiast products for years, ever since we started collecting wine over 10 years ago. The Vino-Voyage 2.0 by Wine Enthusiast is the latest iteration of their wine suitcase. 

It comes in Bordeaux red with four spinner wheels. It’s durable and lightweight. The Vino Voyage has reinforced corner protectors to ensure the wine inside stays safe during transport. There is a TSA-approved lock for security. 

One of the most unique things about this wine luggage is that it has a built-in electronic luggage scale. This means you can always confirm the weight of the bag before checking it. Don’t worry that you will be over your luggage limit. Overall, it’s a pretty slick option.

WINE SLEEVES FOR TRAVEL

When it comes to how to pack wine in a suitcase, the biggest concern is how to protect the wine from breakage during the flight. One of the best ways to do this is to buy a wine sleeve, which acts like wine bubble wrap. Our favorite brand is  WineHero . 

This is a six-pack of bubble wrap wine bottle protectors, but it does a lot more than simple bubble wrap. It’s leak-proof and waterproof. They work for wine, liquor, beer, olive oil, and other liquids that are similar in shape. After our recent trip to  Speyside  in Scotland, we fit a rather wide bottle of whisky in ours too. 

They work by using a combination of Ziploc and velcro closures to make the wine sleeve reusable as well. What I like about these is that they travel flat, so you can add a few to your suitcase on the way out and use them if you need to on the way back. 

WineHero – 6 Pack Wine Bottle Travel Protectors

WINE TOTE BAGS AND INSULATED TOTES

The main purpose of this wine accessory blog post is to help travelers fly with wine. I wanted, though, to share our recommendations for a few wine totes. Here, I focus on insulated wine tote bags. The insulation helps to protect the wine as well as to keep it chilled. This makes it a great option for bringing white wine or sparkling wine to a friend’s house. They are also great solutions for picnics and BBQs. 

A wine tote bag makes a great wine gift, but it’s also a worthwhile investment for frequent wine drinkers. Wine bottles can break easily, even when carrying them short distances. Not only is that wasted wine, but it can destroy a purse or the back seat of a car in seconds. 

OPUX PREMIUM 6 BOTTLE WINE BAG

The Opux Premium 6 Bottle Wine Bag is another wine travel bag option. This is a super practical bag for transporting wine on the ground, but it cannot be checked onto an airplane. 

Despite that, it works well. The case has insulated, padded sides, with removable wine inserts inside. The case is insulated so it can be used for picnics and camping. It can be carried like a wine tote or carried on the shoulder. The bag is available in black, brown, and gray. 

INSULATED WINE BAG

The  Premium Insulated Wine Bag  by Opux is the perfect wine tote. It holds six bottles, although there is a four bottle option too. The bag comes in three colors: heather grey, black, and black with tan striping. 

The interior of the travel wine cooler bag includes padded wine bottle protection as well as temperature control. Although it doesn’t  chill the wine , it will keep chilled wine cool for hours. There’s a detachable shoulder strap as well as padded hand straps for easy carrying. 

TIRRINIA TRAVEL WINE COOLER

The Tirrinia Insulated Travel Wine Cooler Bag is a smaller alternative but equally functional wine tote. There’s a sturdy leather handle and an adjustable shoulder strap. It is padded and insulated. This protects the wine and keeps chilled wine cool. It holds two bottles of wine or sparkling wine. It can be used for other beverages as well. 

In addition to red, this tote comes in grey as well as black, black with colors, and white with black, all in pretty contemporary designs. It also makes a great wine gift. 

Can You Take Wine On A Plane

This is really a two-part question. The first question is whether you can bring wine in carry on luggage. The second question is can you pack wine in checked luggage? We will answer both questions, in great detail, and hopefully, this will answer all of the questions that plague travelers who want to pack wine. Taking wine on a plane is not all that difficult once you understand the rules. 

Can You Carry Wine On A Plane

With all the restrictions on liquids, you cannot bring liquor or wine in carry on luggage unless it is less than 100 ml (3.4 ounces). That means travel-sized wine bottles, which do make good souvenirs, can be carried on in your luggage. But, they need to be placed in a small plastic bag, alongside your shampoo and other toiletries. It’s possible, but it’s a real pain.

The only other way to carry on a wine bottle is if you purchase it from Duty Free. We always hear stories of travelers being caught off guard and leaving Champagne behind for the security guards! Check out the TSA rules  here .

Traveling With Wine Pro Tip

If you purchase duty free liquor in Europe before traveling to the US, if you have a connecting flight there are additional rules. For example, if you fly from London to New York and then connect to Detroit you will need to collect your checked luggage in New York. Then, you need to re-check your bag to continue on to Detroit. You will need to add your duty free liquor purchase into your checked bag before continuing on to Detroit. Just be warned.  

Can You Check Wine In Luggage

This is where it gets interesting when it comes to bringing wine on a plane. If you travel with wine, it has to be in your checked luggage. There are a lot of factors that go into packing wine. These rules apply to flying with wine, Champagne, or any other bottle of alcohol. You don’t need to do anything special with the airline when you travel with wine. The real question is how to pack wine in luggage. 

We will cover each of these options in detail. If you are a wine professional or frequently travel with wine, then a wine travel suitcase is probably a good investment. These would be checked as additional pieces of luggage, so be sure to check what your luggage allowance is.

On average, a bottle of wine weighs about three to four pounds. This works well if you don’t want to ship a case of wine directly from the winery. 

If you only generally travel with a couple of bottles of wine there are some wine sleeves for airplane travel that are best. 

People ask us all the time if it is okay to place Champagne or sparkling wine in checked luggage. Cargo holds, and the space underneath the plane is pressurized. The way sparkling wine is produced, the bottle, and the cork are made to withstand that kind of pressure.

Things To Consider When Purchasing Wine Carriers For Travel

In order to determine which wine bottle travel bag is perfect for you, it helps to ask yourself some questions in order to determine your needs. I can certainly give my opinion on which is the best wine travel bag, but if it isn’t the right one for your needs, it’s certainly not the best.

Are You A Wine Pro?

If you are a wine pro or find yourself traveling with wine on a regular basis then something like a wine bottle suitcase is probably best for you. This is particularly true if you travel with samples to conferences or bring samples home from winery visits.

These suitcases are specifically designed to carry wine. The inside of the suitcase is layered with wine bottle protectors to prevent breakage and other damage to the wine while in transport. Some of the wine luggage options are dedicated only to wine whereas in others you can pack clothes and wine. These rules and suggestions also apply to someone who is an avid wine collector.

How Often Do You Transport Wine? 

If you are not a wine pro or wine collector, whether it is on a plane or on the ground, think about how much you travel with wine. Are you visiting one winery a year and bringing home a few bottles? Or, do you make several trips a year with the intent of bringing wine back each time? Do you bring a bottle or two of something back on every trip you take – domestic and international? Do you find yourself taking wine to people’s houses for dinners or picnics or BBQs? 

When answering these questions, if you fly with wine often, wine bottle luggage might be worth the investment. If it is only once or twice a year, then wine sleeves for travel might be sufficient. If you want to transport wine locally, a wine carrier tote or insulated wine carrier might be best. These protect bottles when you carry them with you or keep them cool for picnics or BBQs. We share recommendations for each of these options below.

How Many Bottles Are You Carrying?

The most important of these questions come down to how many wine bottles you pack or travel with regularly. If you plan on packing six or 12 bottles on a regular basis, then it is worth it to invest in a quality wine luggage carrier or suitcase. Particularly from a reputable brand that will last for years to come. If you only pack wine on occasion, then some of the more casual options are probably best for you.

FAQS – HOW TO PACK WINE BOTTLES

When talking about shipping or packing a case of wine, people often start by asking how many bottles of wine are there in a case. In the US, a case of wine often includes 12 bottles. In Europe, though, the standard is six bottles in a case.

There are a couple of rules when it comes to wine transport into the US. I spoke above about the liquid limitations in the US, which are the same as much of the rest of the world. According to the TSA, for alcohol that has below 24% ABV (alcohol by volume) there is no limit on how much you can carry in your checked luggage. This includes wine, which is normally no more than 15% ABV. For alcohol that is between 24-70%, there is a limit of five liters per person. The average bottle of alcohol is normally 750ml. The ABV of most rum, gin, vodka, whisky , etc. falls within this range.  That said, there might be tax charged on anything over one liter according to the US Customs And Border Patrol. If they stop you at the airport you might need to pay $1 or $2 per liter for wine, but possibly more for liquors. 

In the past, travelers could bring wine on a plane. Today, it’s only possible to travel with a wine bottle in checked luggage, with one exception. When traveling internationally, it is possible to purchase wine at an airport’s duty-free shop. The wine will be sealed in a pre-approved clear plastic bag. This bag then can be carried onboard the plane. Once onboard, neither the bag nor the bottle can be opened.

It’s been 30 years since the Eurostar first connected London to mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel. As an Australian living in London, I cannot tell you how excited I was the first time I arrived at St Pancras “International” to board a Paris -bound train. 

A few trips later, including a recent long weekend in Amsterdam with my kid to celebrate a milestone birthday, I have put together a first-timer’s guide to riding the Eurostar.

In London, it’s St Pancras International, which is right next to King’s Cross Station. There’s plenty of public transportation and dozens of places to eat and drink before you board, whether inside the train station or nearby at Coal Drops Yard (north of the station). Heading south over beyond Euston Rd, the area has a slight ghost town feel after dark.

In Paris, the train departs from Gare du Nord, which is located in the 10th arrondissement . Queues to buy tickets for onward travel on the metro are notoriously long, but you can buy tickets on the Eurostar. Be aware it’s also a prime target for pickpockets and scam artists. Don’t be distracted or, like me, you may lose a handbag while being asked a seemingly genuine question by a stranger.

When catching the Eurostar from Amsterdam Centraal , you’ll find the outbound platform is tucked away. Although in 2024 the station is having an upgrade, so watch this space. Stock up on provisions before you go through passport control. The area around the station is busy so take normal precautions, including looking out for trams and cyclists , who have right-of-way no matter what.

At Brussels Midi Station, you may notice a police presence due to heightened security in Europe. The station area is fairly safe, but it can feel less so after dark with fewer people around.

For Lille and Rotterdam , both smaller cities, the stations where the Eurostar alights are centrally located with shops, cafes and sights nearby. Public transport is easy to navigate, but these are also very walkable cities (if you're not carrying a lot of luggage).

What can I take on the Eurostar?

You can take two bags up to 85cm/33.5in (at its widest/ longest point), plus one piece of hand luggage on the Eurostar. There’s no weight limit, but you do need to be able to lift your bags onto the train and potentially up to the rack above your seat.

There is luggage storage space at the end of carriages, but be aware that as we passed through Brussels on our way to Amsterdam, announcements were made to keep an eye on your belongings as thieves have been known to lighten the train’s load.

The best bit of traveling by train compared to flying: there are no restrictions on liquids. You can take all the products and bottled water you like (note that there is nowhere to refill on board). And if you’re up for a tipple, you can take one bottle of wine or bubbly or four cans of beer on board – except for during some major events, but you’ll get notified if that’s the case. 

What else should I bring on the Eurostar?

There are UK and European plug sockets to recharge phones and laptops, although there are no USB sockets with Standard class seats. BYO book or download content to your devices in advance as the wi-fi and phone signal drops out regularly.

Can I buy food onboard the Eurostar?

There is a cafe carriage selling snacks and light meals for Standard class travelers (Premium classes get a meal delivered to their seats like on a plane). The menu changes twice a year, but the options are limited, so it’s often better to bring your own food, especially if you have dietary restrictions.

Buy your train supplies before you pass through passport control as the options inside the terminal at St Pancras were very busy the morning we traveled, while at Paris and Amsterdam they’re virtually non-existent.

What can’t I take with me on the Eurostar?

There’s a list of things you cannot take on the Eurostar on the website , most of which follow common sense: firearms, flammables, illegal drugs…. Perishable items like meat, fish and dairy are also on the list, but I am sure I could smell some scrumptious Dutch cheese in somebody’s bag on our way home! 

Sadly taking a bike with you is a lot harder than one would hope, given the increase in interest in cycling to get around and cycling holidays in Europe. For full-sized bikes, you need to pre-book passage and disassemble your bike to check it in as luggage. Folding bikes and children’s bikes can be brought on board with you, but they need to be in a protective bag.

Do I need to print my Eurostar tickets?

Print your ticket out if you want a paper back up, but you can scan tickets directly from the Eurostar app at arrival gates. If your seat has changed for whatever reason, a fresh paper ticket will be printed for you at the gate.

Next, you move onto border control via security, like you do at an international airport.

Do I need a visa as well as my passport?

Make sure you are up-to-date on what documents you need for European travel, which varies by nationality. 

As well as your passport, from late 2024 biometric information (a face scan or fingerprints) will be collected at European borders, which is expected to slow down the check-in process and may have a knock-on effect on the number of passengers that can be booked and processed per train.

Also note that from 2025, all non-EU citizens (that includes the British, obviously) will need an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) – a €7 visa-waiver scheme like the US ESTA – to enter Europe.

Do you really need to get there 90 minutes before your Eurostar train departs?

Yes, you really do. Cutting it fine can work out, but there are sometimes multiple trains from St Pancras, so queues can build quickly. Also seating inside terminals is limited, so do yourself a favor and get there on time.

What happens if I miss my train?

This has happened to me (or should I say, yes, I did this to myself), and Eurostar kindly rebooked our group on the next service headed to Paris. However we did lose our seat bookings and found ourselves in the backward-facing seats with no window views on the later train. Luckily the cafe carriage has large windows, so we congregated there for most of the journey.

How do you choose seats?

You’ll be allocated seats with your booking, but you can change these online or via the app. I recommend you do that as soon as you can because (as mentioned) there are seats on the Eurostar with no or partial views, and while 30 minutes is under the Channel, the rest of the journey is a chance to see the changing landscape.

Some Eurostar travelers also recommend bringing some kitchen towels or wet wipes and giving your window a clean – inside and out if you can – to improve the view.

Are there sleeper trains from London?

You’ve probably seen the headlines about Europe’s new golden age of train travel with more passengers embracing the greener alternative to short-haul flights. In 2024 there has been an uptick in sleeper train services in Europe, with new overnight routes from Paris to Berlin and Vienna to Hamburg on ÖBB's Nightjet. 

There’s talk of the European Sleeper company connecting London to its night services via the Eurostar, so watch this space. And a sleeper train direct from London to further European cities may well be on the horizon.

Despite the challenges Brexit has put in its path, Eurostar maintains its ambitions to reach 30 million passengers by 2030. Given the London-to-Paris train journey emits 10 times less carbon per passenger compared to flying (22kg of CO2 per person versus 224kg of CO2), it really does make sense to get to and from Europe by rail.

Let’s face it—some of us have travel anxiety, and we take it out on our poor suitcases, stretching those zippers to their limits. But with ever-increasing fees and weight limits , maintaining an overpacker’s lifestyle (which requires at least a checked bag) is dubious at best. The solution? Forcing yourself to travel with just one bag, with advice courtesy of r/OneBag . When we’re faced with a problem nowadays, most turn to the internet for an answer. And there’s no better way to crowdsource a solution than via the communities of Reddit. Here, visitors can find dozens of subreddits devoted to travel, like r/DigitalNomad , r/TravelHacks , r/SoloTravel , r/Shoestring and, of course, r/OneBag, which describes itself as “a minimalist urban travel community devoted to the idea of lugging around less crap.” Getting input and reading about the experiences of seasoned travelers is critical. But learning how to get the most out of those experiences while not drowning in excess toiletries and clothing? One might call that advice invaluable. So, get out there with the freedom to travel unburdened, and remember, don’t pack your fears !

What is one-bag travel?

One-bag travel is self-explanatory: It’s traveling with one bag. No check-in suitcase—just the one piece of luggage that you carry on to the plane. What’s the point? There are several benefits to one-bag travel:

• Freedom: Traveling with one bag physically frees you up and allows you to more easily navigate your new, exciting destination.
• Peace of mind: There’s less of a chance that your luggage will be lost by the airline (or that you may simply lose track of a suitcase) if you stow it in an overhead compartment.
• Budget-friendly: Forget about checked bag fees.
• Save time: No need to mope and sigh around the baggage carousel anymore. Simply disembark, bypass the baggage carousel, and go straight to your hotel with all of your stuff. Plus, since you’ll be traveling lighter, it will take less time to pack and unpack.
• Safety: For those who like to travel solo, packing your things in one bag is a great way to keep you and your personal belongings as safe as possible. With everything all in one place, it will be easier to keep track of your things.

Of course, there is a small con when it comes to one-bag travel: Since you’ll be traveling with carry-on baggage only, you’ll have to abide by TSA regulations when it comes to liquids. So, don’t plan on bringing back a souvenir bottle of wine or liquor when one-bagging.

How do you even travel with only one bag?

Chronic overpackers might find the idea of using just one bag while traveling absolutely preposterous. But all it takes is some savvy planning .

Of course, not everyone will be able to comfortably take a monthlong European vacation with one Fjällräven Kȧnken backpack. But for those who master the art of traveling as free as can be, the pros outweigh the cons.

The bulkiest thing in everyone’s luggage is clothing. And though it’s not advisable to bring just one outfit for a trip, there are ways to bring less. Consider packing fewer pairs of underwear than you need and washing dirtied unmentionables in the hotel bathtub or in a wash bag . These biodegradable, pocket-sized detergent sheets make the chore easier. Investing in a few pairs of merino wool socks or other clothing items is also a great idea; thanks to wool fiber’s hydrophobic properties , B.O. particles have a hard time absorbing into wool clothing, so you can wash them less often.

It’s a good idea to wear your biggest and bulkiest items, such as jackets or boots, on the plane—they’ll keep you warm in that chilly cabin air. To save room inside your bag, invest in a few synthetic-fabric pieces , which are easier to roll or fold compactly (rolling is believed to save even more space than folding, but to each their own) than traditional fabrics, have greater moisture-wicking properties, and tend to dry more quickly. For environmentally friendly alternatives (polyester, acrylic, and nylon fabrics are some of the biggest contributors to microplastic pollution ), you might purchase plant-based linen, Lyocell, rayon, bamboo, or viscose clothing, which behave a lot like their synthetic cousins.

Since shoes cannot be folded, we suggest you make do with the pair you’ll wear on the plane. Pack a compact pair of slippers or sandals if you’ll need them.

As for toiletries , solid shampoo, lotion, conditioner, and bar soap are your friend. Lush has a wealth of bar-based beauty products, but brands like New Zealand–based Ethique (which also happens to be 100 percent plastic-free) and vegan-friendly Obia are great options. Not only do solid bars pack neatly, but also you won’t have to worry about them exploding in your bag. Plus, rather than bring all the toiletries you need with you, pack the essentials and buy anything else you might need at a local pharmacy at your destination. Who knows, you might find yourself a fan of a new Italian toothpaste .

Electronics also pose a packing problem—it might be worth it to invest in low-weight laptops and tablets if you know you’ll be on the move a lot. A multiport adapter is allows you to bring a single charger for all of your tech. As you’re packing, ask yourself: Do I really need this piece of electronic equipment? Do I need to bring my handheld gaming system? Or should I focus on connecting with the culture around me?

The best luggage to buy to one-bag travel

While the internet can give you all the tips in the world, what luggage to buy for one-bag travel is a decision that only you can make.

One way to make it easier, per r/OneBag , is deciding which camp you fall into: Would you rather “buy a bag and tailor your packing list to fit into it, or box up your finalized packing list and measure L x W x H of it all and look for a bag with similar dimensions?”

Either way, there are a couple of things to consider when choosing a single bag. Do you have a format preference: a backpack, a duffle bag, or a suitcase? If it’s the latter, is it important to you to have four wheels over two? Would you prefer a soft or hard shell? Regardless of what kind of bag you choose, consider which airlines you commonly fly. • Backpack: Scrolling through the subreddit, you’ll notice that backpacks are the preferred system for one-baggers. And there are so many choices. One that pops up frequently is the Bellroy Transit Backpack Plus because it meets carry-on restrictions, has a removable sternum strap and hideaway waist belt to take the strain off your shoulders, and boasts internal compression straps to reduce bulk. Another much-loved option is the Osprey Farpoint and Fairview family of travel packs . For those looking for a hybrid roller/backpack, the wheeled versions of these bags also have good reviews . For something smaller, Redditors suggest Cotopaxi’s Allpa 35L Travel Pack because it’s lightweight and features a full-wrap zipper like a suitcase.
• A hybrid backpack/suitcase: Baboon to the Moon ‘s collection of Go-Bags comes in a wide array of seasonal colors and sizes. Both the Small and Mini comply with TSA’s carry-on requirements while the Big would best be suited for local trips that don’t require a flight. The Go-Bag can be either worn as a backpack or carried like a duffel bag.
• Suitcases: r/OneBag enthusiasts aren’t super keen on suitcases—the wheels make the bag heavier, and they’re not as easy to move through crowded streets or over cobblestones. But, if they were to pick one, it would be the Briggs & Riley Compact Carry-On Spinner or Away’s The Carry-On . Both have sizes that meet the carry-on limits of most airlines and lifetime limited warranties.

One-bagging travel hacks

• Use packing and compression cubes : Easily keep your clothes separate from your power cords (or, more important, your dirty from your clean underwear) with these organizational bags. They’re particularly handy because they make it easier to pull out exactly what you need (as opposed to emptying your bag in search of your tweezers). The compression bags also help squish items into more manageable packages—it won’t save you any weight, but it’ll give you more space.
• Choose a rectangular-shaped bag : Because compression cubes are usually rectangular, it’s better to use a similarly shaped bag to maximize packing efficiency.
• Bring a carabiner : A carabiner clipped to the outside of your bag can be useful; it can hold an extra pair of shoes, a water bottle, a hat, or a jacket.

Above all, remember that you don’t need to pack for every eventuality. Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you’re going to be a radically different person than at home, so pack what you’ll use—and nothing more.

She jokingly called that section of the show Female Rage: The Musical . Most concertgoers already knew and sang along to every word of all the songs she sang from the album even though it was released just a few weeks earlier on April 19. Such is the power of Swift.

In her long career of riveting live shows, her stunning performance of “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” may very well be her masterpiece so far. Swift is enjoying unprecedented success with her latest albums and tour, which showcase how she can tell a story like no other artist. Both her singing voice and her literary voice are stronger than ever, and it’s joyful to watch Swift embody and embrace her mightiness as a performer.

It's no wonder many fans are willing to travel hundreds or even thousands of miles for the chance to see Taylor Swift perform live. Since tickets sold out so quickly for the few remaining U.S. tour dates and resellers are aware of the intense demand, some fans discovered it was more doable to attend one of her international shows.

Consider Your Lodging and Transportation Choices First

Before buying a ticket, be sure that you will have accommodations available. If you can book a hotel that’s within walking distance of a stadium and know the area is safe, that is ideal. Otherwise, check bus and train schedules for the night of your venue, then look at hotels that might be close to bus or train stops.

With tens of thousands of fellow concertgoers leaving at the same time, transportation can get tricky. If you book a room that’s farther from the venue, try to get a rental car instead of vying for a taxi or rideshare after the show. If you do that, just be sure parking will be available. You may need to buy a parking pass from the venue.

Also be aware that hotel room prices skyrocket when Swift is in town because there is such a high demand. If you are renting a car and don’t mind a longer drive, you can save a lot of money by booking a hotel room that’s a longer drive from the venue.

Enjoy The Moment

Amy Wilkinson, a 49-year-old Swiftie from Tucson, AZ, went viral in December 2023 for her reenactments of The Eras Tour performances using Elf on the Shelf dolls. She posted them to her Instagram, @Tswizzle_Momma , and found thousands of people watching each time she posted her videos. Like many other Swifties in the US, she is flying to Europe for The Eras Tour.

Wilkinson told me she had this advice for fellow fans going to the show abroad, “Enjoy the entire experience, from the moment you get on the plane until the morning after. You may be going for the concert, but the memories are made in the details. See the sights. Enjoy the food. Meet other Swifties. This is at the heart of what international travel is about.”

Make The Friendship Bracelets

Rebecca Bartley, a Swiftie from Nova Scotia, Canada, is going to Sweden to see The Eras Tour. She advises bringing friendship bracelets to share with fellow concertgoers on the night of your show. Wilkinson suggested making friendship bracelets in the language of the country where you’ll be seeing the show.

It’s easy to learn how to make friendship bracelets. I had never dabbled in making jewelry before, but now I find great joy in creating friendship bracelets. I created dozens and handed them to fans at The Eras Tour movie.

To make friendship bracelets, I start by choosing the colors I want and which word or phrase I want the bracelet to express. Then I choose colorful beads and pick out all the necessary letter beads.

Next, I cut off elastic string. I find it’s best to use Stretch Magic elastic string because of its strength and durability. To make the bracelets, I cut off a piece of string that’s twice as long as I need so that there is ample room for cutting and tying multiple knots.

Then I tape one end of the string to my workspace, string the beads I have set aside until I feel like the bracelet is complete. Being careful to not let any of the beads slide off the string, I then wrap it around my wrist to see how it fits and then consider whether I am making the bracelet for a wrist that’s likely larger or smaller than mine. (Also, with elastic string, there’s room for a flexible fit.) I adjust accordingly.

As a last step, I make four to five knots in the string to tie off the bracelet. Many fans choose to add a dab of fabric glue to the end of the knot, but I found that got really messy and wasn’t necessary if you make multiple knots. Then I tuck the knots into one of the beads so that it doesn’t show on the bracelet. Then the bracelet is concert-ready!

Keep in mind that there are a lot of other ways to make friendship bracelets that are for more involved and creative that mine. And, if the idea of making friendship bracelets doesn’t sound fun to you, don’t worry. You can buy premade friendship bracelets on Etsy. Some Etsy shops like RainFoxx13 and BonniesBracelet have elaborate, beautiful friendship bracelets that you may want to keep for yourself. Others sell packs of friendship bracelets in bulk.

If you don’t want to trade friendship bracelets, that’s okay, too. The Swiftie community is accepting and supportive, and you still may get several bracelets as gifts.

What To Wear To The Eras Tour

There are no rules for what you should wear to Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour beyond the guidelines from the venue. Some fans go casual, and others choose to dress to the nines for the show. Some fans choose to wear merch from Taylor Swift’s official store . Many fans choose to dress up in costumes inspired by Swift’s songs and lyrics.

With the release of The Tortured Poets Department and its video “Fortnight,” some fans are choosing to imitate some of her looks from the video. Others are wearing their interpretation of the incredible costumes she wears during The Eras Tour concert. Others look at past eras for inspiration. You are likely to see every era represented in fan costumes at a show.

What You Should Bring To The Eras Tour In Europe

Wilkinson advised me that the number one thing to bring is a portable phone charger. If you plan on recording video and taking photos, your phone’s battery may die down quickly, and a phone charger can ensure you can keep capturing the memories all night.

Earplugs are a good idea if you’re sensitive to loud noise. If you’re bringing kids along, they are a must. They ensure you can enjoy the music while protecting your ears.

Bring along a cardigan or jacket. Layering is a good idea for a concert during the summer. Although it may be hot in the stadium, you might be chilly on the way home from the show.

You can’t go wrong bringing along hand sanitizer and a travel pack of tissues. Even if you can get through “All Too Well” without tearing up, you may cry at the sheer excitement of the experience. It can be intense in the best way.

If you have tickets that are far back, bring along binoculars to see close-up details.

What To Avoid At The Eras Tour

Don’t come to the stadium with a big bag. If you haven’t attended stadium concerts before, you may not know that you need to carry a clear bag if you want to bring a purse. It also has to fit within the measurements allowed in the stadium, so you can’t just buy a clear backpack and expect to get in the show. Check with your show’s venue to make sure you follow their rules for what you can bring.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Archewell Foundation has been labelled "delinquent" in the US for failing to submit annual records.

A letter was sent to the charity on 3 May by by California's Registry of Charities and Fundraisers, saying it has been "listed as delinquent" for "failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees".

The letter said an organisation listed as delinquent is banned from "soliciting or disbursing charitable funds" and its registration may be "suspended or revoked".

It is understood that a physical cheque was sent by Archewell Foundation but not received, and a new one has been sent to resolve the issue.

It is believed the charity was only made aware of this when the delinquency notice was published.

Shares of US video game retailer GameStop have soared again today, fuelled by the return of online influencer "Roaring Kitty" to social media.

Real name Keith Gill, the influencer's first online post caused shares to jump yesterday, with another surge reported today.

The retailer's shares rallied 132% in pre-market trading before falling back to about 80% up as US markets opened. 

Mr Gill shared a meme and more than 10 clips from movies including The Avengers and Tombstone. Though the posts didn't mention any company names, GameStop and US cinema chain AMC were the most-traded stocks by investors yesterday and today, according to data from JP Morgan.

He is credited with helping to fuel the "meme stock" craze during the COVID pandemic, which saw GameStop shares rise more than 1,000%. They later collapsed as interest faded.

Tesco's managing director has seen his pay deal more than double to almost £10m. 

That's 431 times the wage of the average £23,010 salary for a Tesco worker. 

Ken Murphy received a pay packet worth £9.93m for the year to February, the supermarket's annual report revealed.

His pay deal came to £4.4m in the previous financial year. 

The rise was driven by £4.91m from his performance share plan (PSP) after he helped lead the company to higher profits in the face of challenging inflation.

This PSP payment will be paid out in Tesco shares and is based on the company's performance since 2021.

It comes on top of an annual salary of £1.64m and an annual bonus of £3.38m. 

The group's chief finance officer, Imran Nawaz, also saw his annual pay package more than double.

He received a total £4.95m for the year, jumping from £2.27m in the previous financial year.

The retailer was criticised for revealing a £2.83bn profit for the year to February when many customers had been impacted by rampant food and drink inflation. 

Alison Platt, chairwoman of the Tesco remuneration committee, said the pay boost reflects the fact "Tesco has delivered for all of its stakeholders over the last year".

She added: "Tesco remains committed to a competitive and fair reward package for all colleagues and over the last two years we have invested more than £800m in colleague pay, as well as significantly enhancing the range of wellbeing benefits we offer."

Sony's operating profit  has climbed 5% this business year - even as it forecasts lower PlayStation 5 sales. 

The Japanese entertainment and electronics company said its operating profit is expected to come in at 1.28 trillion yen (£6.5bn) in the year ending March.

Sony, a major supplier of image sensors for smartphones, said its chips business is expected to book a 40% rise in operating profit on higher sales and lower costs.

At its gaming unit, revenues are expected to fall with the PlayStation 5 in its fourth year, but Sony said user engagement and cost control could drive future profitability at the business.

It predicted PlayStation 5 sales will fall to 18 million units from last year's 20.8 million. 

Cheaper energy deals for new customers could potentially return in October, with the industry regulator announcing a review of their ban. 

Ofgem is consulting on removing the block on acquisition-only tariffs in an attempt to encourage competition between suppliers. 

The ban was introduced as a short-term measure in April 2022 to protect consumers during the energy crisis, and was due to be lifted in March next year.

Now, the regulator has said that it is the right time to consider removing it as the energy market continues to stabilise.

MoneySavingExpert Martin Lewis welcomed the consultation, saying: "We need anything possible right now to stimulate competition and bring prices down." 

"In normal times, I wouldn't call for firms to be allowed to offer new customers cheaper prices than existing, yet these aren't normal times." 

Melinda French Gates has left the charity she set up with her former husband, Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, after the couple's divorce. 

In a statement, she said she would step down from her position at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on 7 June.

An AI-powered mortgage lender has cut rates for a second time this week. 

MPowered has reduced all its two and five year fixed deals, with rates starting at 4.37% down from 4.59%. 

"The swap markets are moving at pace at present, and it is important that as a responsible lender we are able to react and pass on any savings we can to borrowers," said Matt Surridge, sales director of MPowered Mortgages. 

"I'm therefore really pleased we are one of the first, if not the first, to cut rates this week, having already cut rates once in the past week." 

The company uses AI in its mortgage process and is a fully digital platform. 

McDonald's has decided to remove the iconic smile from its Happy Meal box in a bid to teach children about their emotions. 

Instead, a sheet of stickers depicting different moods will be placed inside, which children can use to express their feelings. 

A QR code for a mental health hub will also be placed on the red packaging to provide its younger customers with different resources about emotional wellbeing. 

The move comes as part of Mental Health Week, with research by the fast food chain finding nearly half of children feel pressure to be happy all the time. 

Football legend Rio Ferdinand has teamed up with the company to support the campaign, which runs until 19 May. 

The father-of-five said: "It's our job to empower our children to express themselves freely and support them every step of the way in understanding that it's okay to not be happy all the time." 

The Traitors' winner Harry Clark has revealed he's only spent some of his prize money so far, and it's gone towards clearing his relatives' debts. 

The 23-year-old won £95,150 after successfully convincing his fellow contestants that he was a faithful in the second season of the show. 

Speaking on the TV BAFTAs red carpet, the former British Army engineer said his dad has stopped him from spending the cash and has been looking after him. 

"He's got his head screwed on. He's been making sure I can get my first place," he told reporters.

"I've just given my family some dosh, just to pay off their debts and stuff like that, so they don't have to worry anymore. 

"That's all I've wanted to do in my life." 

Police are no longer interested in dealing with shoplifting and retailers are being forced to spend "a lot of money" on protecting themselves, the chairman of M&S has claimed. 

Archie Norman said stores have resorted to installing new camera systems and employing store detectives to try to keep crime rates down. 

"We get very little help from the police," he told LBC's Nick Ferrari at Breakfast.

"I think we have to accept that the police are not interested in this sort of crime any more. Whether we like it or not, that's the way it has gone." 

Shoplifting is at the highest levels since records began in 2003, according to the Office for National Statistics. 

It has risen by 37% since last year.

Mr Norman said thefts had surged since the pandemic, and the rising cost of living crisis was also causing problems. 

"When people are hard up, or particularly when there's a growth in other forms of crime, particularly drugs-related crime, then one way of financing it is to go and steal from shops… it's understandable given what we've been through in the last couple of years, we've seen more of that," he added.

A change to the law in 2014 now means shoplifting goods worth less than £200 is only a summary offence. 

This may have prompted police to pay less attention to it, and it has been on the rise since.

Home Office data also show the number of shoplifting charges has fallen in recent years. 

Taking further action wasn't considered to be "in the public interest" in most cases.

The prospects for a Bank of England interest rate cut are almost 50/50.

That's according to the latest financial market expectations in reaction to this morning's employment figures.

They showed the pace of wage growth remaining stubbornly high - overshooting the expectations of economists.

Strong wage growth is not what the Bank wants to see, as it fears a surge in consumer spending power driving a new wave of inflation.

There is a further set of wage data before the Bank's next rate-setting meeting on 20 June.

That may not help those seeking a cut in borrowing costs, however, as it will reflect the impact of April's big rise in the National Living Wage.

Away from the interest rate cut speculation, the FTSE 100 has opened flat for a second day.

Currys is among stocks doing well on the wider stock market.

The electricals retailer saw its shares trading almost 8% higher in early deals after it raised its annual profit outlook.

Those of Greggs, however, were down almost 1% despite a leap in sales.

The bakery to fast food chain said its performance was in line with expectations and, as such, it had no impact on its forecasts for the full year.

Wages grew by 6% in the three months to March, excluding bonuses, according to the Office for National Statistics.

This is slightly above economists' expectations - bad news for the Bank of England, which wants to see wage growth fall to help ease inflation as it weighs when to cut 16-year-high interest rates.

The Bank is watching wages closely as it looks to bring inflation back to its 2% target, and cooling earnings growth is seen as being key to paving the way for it to begin cutting rates.

In real terms - taking Consumer Prices Index inflation into account - pay rose 2.4% across the period.

In March alone, that figure was 3% - the highest level of growth since July 2021, when it hit 3.9%.

"Earnings growth in cash terms remains high, with the recent falls in the rate now levelling off while, with inflation falling, real pay growth remains at its highest level in well over two years," said ONS director of economic statistics Liz McKeown.

Meanwhile, unemployment ticked up to 4.3% from January to March, compared to 4.2% in the previous three months, December to February. 

The number of job vacancies remains about pre-pandemic levels, but has been declining for 22 consecutive months, said Ms McKeown.

"With unemployment also increasing, the number of unemployed people per vacancy has continued to rise, approaching levels seen before the onset of COVID-19."

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
