TOUR Championship announces dates for 2024 tournament

PGA TOUR season finale to be contested over Labor Day weekend, Aug. 28 – Sept. 1, 2024

ATLANTA – The TOUR Championship will make a one-year return to Labor Day weekend in 2024 as part of today’s announcement of the 2024 PGA TOUR schedule, with the FedExCup Playoffs finale to be held at East Lake Golf Club from Wednesday, Aug. 28 – Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024. Traditionally contested during the third week in August, the TOUR Championship will be played one week later in 2024 to account for the Men’s Olympic Golf Competition in Paris from July 29 – August 4. The 2024 FedExCup Regular Season and FedExCup Playoffs schedule also marks a return to a calendar-year season, running from the first week in January through the TOUR Championship in early September. Along with the adjusted date, the 2024 TOUR Championship will create added anticipation and give fans the opportunity to be among the first to see the new-look East Lake Golf Club following the full renovation led by Andrew Green. The club announced plans for the renovation in January of 2022. “While we are hard at work preparing for an exciting week at East Lake Golf Club later this month, we are excited about a one-time return to Labor Day weekend in 2024,” TOUR Championship Executive Director Alex Urban said. “The TOUR Championship is a staple in the annual Atlanta sports landscape, and we look forward to being an inflection point in an epic sports weekend.” With the opening event of the FedExCup Playoffs beginning this week in Memphis at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, players are fighting to be among the 30 best to qualify for their spot in the season finale at East Lake Golf Club, August 23-27 . PGA Tour returning to calendar-year season in 2024, per reports: Winners and losers of the schedule

The PGA Tour schedule will see many changes in 2024, including a return to a calendar-year season and an increase in no-cut events, according to Golfweek . Here’s what you need to know:

  • The tour will return to a calendar-year season for the first time in a decade after it transitioned to a wraparound schedule in 2013 that started a new season each fall, per Golfweek.
  • The 2024 calendar will reportedly feature 39 regular-season events and eight events in the post-playoff fall series.
  • The Players Championship, the Genesis Invitational, the Memorial Tournament and the Arnold Palmer Invitational will reportedly be the only designated tour events to feature a 36-hole cut.

Notable tournament dates and changes

The season will open with the Sentry Tournament of Champions on Jan. 4, 2024, and finish at the Tour Championship on Sept. 1.

The Memorial Tournament will be held one week before the U.S. Open (June 13-16) instead of the typical two weeks before the major. Additionally, the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx Cup Playoffs will each be pushed back by one week because of the Paris Olympics, reports Golfweek.

The tour will reportedly have no halfway cuts at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the RBC Heritage, the Wells Fargo Championship and the Travelers Championship in 2024.

Who wins in this schedule?

The clear winner is AT&T, which sponsored two non-designated events in 2023 but ended its deal with the Byron Nelson. Now it has one event, but Pebble Beach will be a designated event in 2024. That makes total sense — Pebble is one of the premier golf courses in the United States, and for it to have a field strength the same as the John Deere Classic (per DataGolf.com’s measure) made absolutely zero sense. Now it’ll have the best players, and one of the PGA Tour ’s top sponsors is no doubt happier.

Keep that last part in mind with all of this — the tour asked sponsors for more and more when it was seeking to increase purses and fight off the LIV threat, but it cannot make everyone happy. The tour is going to have to move around who gets designated events, in order to keep sponsors in the boat. — Kellenberger

Who loses in this schedule?

The WM Phoenix Open loses its designated event status, which stinks. But with its stadium hole and unique scheduling (Super Bowl weekend, with the final round leading up to kickoff), it may be the rare non-major that has enough else going for it to lose some field strength. We’ll see.

Moving the Memorial Tournament to the week before the U.S. Open is of note, and I’m interested to hear what Jack Nicklaus has to say about that.

But it’s also the first of three “must-play” events in a row (Travelers Championship is the week after the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, and also designated). What that stretch does is squeeze out the events before and after it, the Canadian Open and Rocket Mortgage Classic. They’ll have a harder time attracting top names that are not there out of sponsor obligations. — Kellenberger

snooker semi-finals

The 2024 Johnstone’s Paint Tour Championship gets under way on Monday with a dozen of this season’s best players featuring in a high-profile draw.

It represents the second-last ranking event on the 2023/24 calendar, with just the World Snooker Championship to follow later in April.

Staged at the Manchester Central for the first time, only the top 12 competitors from the one-year rankings list have qualified.

Tour Championship prize money Champion: £150,000 Runner-up: £60,000 Semi-Finals: £40,000 Quarter-Finals: £30,000 Round of 12: £20,000 Highest break: £10,000

Who has won the Tour Championship?

Since 2019, the Tour Championship has been the culminating event in a series of three in which the lineups are determined by the one-year rankings.

Ronnie O’Sullivan prevailed in its inaugural staging before Stephen Maguire emerged victoriously in a delayed behind-closed-doors edition in 2020.

Neil Robertson subsequently won back-to-back Tour Championship titles, with Shaun Murphy most recently winning in Hull 12 months ago.

Murphy, Robertson, and Maguire have all failed to qualify this season – making O’Sullivan the only former champion in the 2024 Tour Championship draw.

Who is in the 2024 Tour Championship draw?

For the first time in the event’s history, the field has been increased from eight players to 12.

The reason for this is likely what materialised in 2023, when a host of marquee names endured disappointing campaigns and failed to qualify.

As a result of the change, many feel that unnecessary damage has been inflicted on the tournament’s identity and prestige.

Nevertheless, the 2024 Tour Championship draw still boasts an incredibly strong lineup comprising players ranked inside the world’s top 16.

As this season’s highest earners from results in ranking tournaments, Judd Trump, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Zhang Anda, and Ding Junhui are the top four seeds.

Their reward is an automatic bye through to the quarter-finals of the competition.

The remaining eight contenders will battle it out for the other four quarter-final spots.

One tie immediately stands out, with Mark Allen drawn to face John Higgins in a blockbuster first-round battle.

Elsewhere, there are all-English fixtures between Ali Carter and Barry Hawkins, and Mark Selby and Gary Wilson.

Mark Williams encounters Tom Ford, who like Zhang and Wilson will participate in the Tour Championship for the first time.

2024 Tour Championship Draw Round of 12 Mark Williams (8) 10-9 Tom Ford (9) Mark Allen (5) 10-7 John Higgins (12) Gary Wilson (6) 10-8 Mark Selby (11) Barry Hawkins (7) 8-10 Ali Carter (10)

Quarter-Finals Judd Trump (1) 4-10 Mark Williams (8) Ding Junhui (4) 8-10 Mark Allen (5) Zhang Anda (3) 8-10 Gary Wilson (6) Ronnie O’Sullivan (2) 10-2 Ali Carter (10)

Semi-Finals Mark Williams (8) 10-5 Mark Allen (5) Gary Wilson (6) 7-10 Ronnie O’Sullivan (2) Final (bo19) . Mark Williams (8) 10-5 Ronnie O’Sullivan (2)

What are the ranking subplots?

The race is well and truly back on at the top of the official rolling two-year snooker rankings list.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has been the world number one since mid-2022, but that status will be under serious threat in the next few weeks.

Thanks to his victories in five ranking events this season, Judd Trump has narrowed the gap considerably.

In fact, Trump is so close to O’Sullivan now that he’ll usurp his fellow Englishman if he wins the event, or if he reaches the final and O’Sullivan doesn’t.

Mark Allen, meanwhile, remains in pole position to end the 2023/24 term as the world number one, with the Antrim potter at the top in the provisional end-of-season standings.

Results at the Tour Championship will also help determine the specific seeding positions for the top 16 at the Crucible Theatre this year.

Who is the betting favourite?

With ten titles between them this season, sharing five pieces of silverware apiece, it’s hardly surprising that Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump are the two betting favourites.

O’Sullivan is just about favoured with most online bookies at about 6/4, with Trump boasting odds of around 2/1.

The two rivals are on opposite sides of the draw, which could set up a tantalising final in what would be a repeat of the World Grand Prix title decider from January.

The only other multiple champions from the 2023/24 season are Mark Allen and Gary Wilson, who have outright odds of around 14/1 and 50/1 respectively.

I’d have kept it at eight players to preserve the one table setup throughout but feel any diminishing of its prestige is marginal at best. This is my favourite event of the ITV portfolio. Every match remains two sessions.

' src=

Would tend to agree. It’s definitely a pity that it has changed to 12, but there has been a bit of an overreaction to it really. I’m looking forward to seeing what the atmosphere will be like at the new venue.

Hopefully “best friends” Ronnie and Ali to meet in last 8

2024 PGA Championship odds, field: Surprising PGA picks from golf model that has won 11 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the pga championship 2024 10,000 times and revealed its pga golf picks for valhalla golf club.

where will the tour championship be held in 2024

Brooks Koepka became just the fourth golfer in PGA Championship history to win the tournament three times over a six-year stretch after emerging victorious last year. He joined Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to do so since 1930. Koepka now will try to become the first golfer since Woods to win the event back-to-back years when the 2024 PGA Championship tees off from Valhalla Golf Club on Thursday, May 16. Koepka finished 15th the last time the PGA Championship was held at Valhalla Golf Club in 2014 and is 16-1 in the 2024 PGA Championship odds after finishing 45th at the Masters. Should you include Koepka in 2024 PGA Championship bets due to his dominance?

Scottie Scheffler is the 4-1 favorite in the 2024 PGA Championship field after winning his second green jacket and Jon Rahm follows at 9-1 in the latest PGA Championship 2024 odds. Before locking in any 2024 PGA Championship picks of your own, entering PGA DFS lineups on sites like DraftKings or FanDuel, or finalizing PGA Championship props and PGA Championship Pick Six entries, be sure to see the 2024 PGA Championship golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up almost $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model correctly predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 11 majors entering the weekend and hit the Masters three straight years. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now with the PGA Championship 2024 field taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 PGA Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 PGA Championship: Brooks Koepka, a three-time PGA champion and one of the favorites, stumbles and doesn't even crack the top 10. Koepka has five major tournament wins on his resume and a reputation for elevating his level of play in big events. However, his last two major starts haven't gone well as he was 45th at the Masters, which followed a 64th-place finish at last year's Open Championship. He's failed to shoot par in each of his last seven rounds at major tournaments.

After notching three tournament wins in 2023, including last year's PGA Championship, it has been tough sledding for Koepka in 2024. He has no victories, or even top-fives, and across his six starts, he has three times as many finishes outside the top 25 (three) as he has inside the top 10 (one). He played Valhalla at the 2014 PGA Championship and finished in a tie for 15th place, but that placement ranks just eighth out of his 11 career PGA Championship starts.

Another surprise: Bryson DeChambeau, a 30-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. DeChambeau was the Round 1 leader at this year's Masters after shooting a 65 and was tied for the top spot Saturday morning after Friday's cut. However, DeChambeau tailed off over the final two rounds and finished sixth. DeChambeau showcased his strength with the second-longest average drives at the Masters (316.1 yards) to put himself in positions for birdies.

DeChambeau had eight birdies on Par 4s at the Masters, with only two golfers having more than him over the tournament. DeChambeau finished fourth for the second time over his last three PGA Championships last season and is a proven major winner, taking the 2020 U.S. Open. DeChambeau won three PGA Tour events in 2018 as a younger golfer and hasn't lost much power in his driver. Given his strong all-around showing at the Masters and finishing eighth or better in five of his last 13 major events, the model projects value at 30-1 odds to include DeChambeau in 2024 PGA Championship bets.  See who else to pick here .

How to make 2024 PGA Championship picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 25-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .

Who will win the 2024 PGA Championship, and which longshots will stun the golfing world? Check out the PGA Championship 2024 odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected PGA Championship leaderboard, all from the model that's nailed 11 golf majors, including the last three Masters .

In addition to the exciting new content coming to Samsung TV Plus, today Samsung Ads showcased its continued commitment to providing the most innovative and effective solutions for advertisers leveraging the company’s unparalleled proprietary data, vast device ecosystem, and innovative AI technology.

“At Samsung, we envision a future where intelligent, interconnected experiences enrich our lives. That’s why we’re prioritizing AI, as it is the cornerstone of our innovation,” said Cathy Oh, VP, Head of Marketing, Samsung Service Business. “Through our ongoing investment in AI, we continuously push boundaries and set the benchmark for the Smart TV industry and in turn, fuel world-class solutions for advertisers.”

Amplifying Advertiser Impact across CTV and Mobile with Samsung News

Samsung Ads is now providing advertisers new opportunities to connect their campaign messaging across both CTV and mobile. This new offering comes at a pivotal time as the Samsung News Galaxy mobile app is set to feature curated, up-to-the-minute Olympics content this summer in partnership with the International Olympic Committee. Starting next month, advertisers can now directly sponsor the Samsung News app on Galaxy devices with roadblocks that include both display and video ads in its top five editorial news sections.

Making Advertising Smarter with Smart Outcomes Samsung Ads is expanding its suite of AI-powered performance solutions, Smart Outcomes, with two new solutions. These new offerings come on the heels of the successful launch of Samsung Smart Audiences, combining the scale of Samsung’s ecosystem with the power of AI and machine learning to drive conversion:

  • Smart Acquisition : Smart Acquisition is a new solution designed for content partners seeking to acquire new users with greater efficiency and efficacy. By leveraging Samsung’s proprietary data and unique AI technology, Smart Acquisition helps content partners by delivering their ads to the right person at the right moment to deliver the highest likelihood of conversion.
  • CTV to Mobile: Designed for partners with mobile apps who are looking to acquire and engage with consumers with greater efficiency and effectiveness, this new solution enables advertisers to leverage Samsung’s unique Smart TV real estate paired with the company’s unique AI capabilities to acquire new users and drive engagement to their mobile apps. In addition, advertisers can prove more ROI by measuring return on ad spend through Samsung’s partnerships with the industry’s top mobile measurement providers.

Sharper Measurement and Targeting Powered by Proprietary Data For “Optimal Reach”

Optimal Reach unlocks insights across linear and streaming to identify gaps in reach, unexposed audiences, and target “missed audiences’ at scale using machine learning through a single source solution that leverages a myriad of proprietary Samsung Ads data sources including its TV & You panel data, linear and in-app ACR data, as well as other data signals. Optimal reach can be used for reporting and targeting.

“In the realm of advertising, audience and first party data reign supreme. At Samsung, we possess the largest audience and the most profound understanding of them. Fueled by our proprietary first party data and AI prowess, these solutions drive outcomes across the entire sales funnel, offering enhanced efficiency, heightened discovery, outcome-based performance, and deeper engagement. Leveraging billions of data points across screens in-home, in-hand, and on-the-go, our extensive proprietary dataset integrated into our machine learning engine stands unrivaled,” said Travis Scott Howe, VP, New Products & Solutions, Samsung Ads.

Samsung to Launch New Interactive Gaming Experiences

Samsung continues to make significant investments in gaming initiatives to remove barriers and ensure everyone can “ Just Play ” on their Samsung devices, creating more value for owners and choices for players to decide how and what they play.

Samsung will be expanding games in a whole new way – transforming an ordinary ad break on Samsung TV Plus into a game break: an engaging, interactive gaming experience. With this new innovation, Samsung will allow more people to play and offer every kind of game for every kind of player, with no game controller required.

Later this year, Samsung will soon roll out new games to kick off new ways to play without a controller:

  • Rivals Arena: A cinematic card game from Return Entertainment coming exclusively to Samsung TVs using any smartphone as a controller. Players can jump right in by grabbing their phone and scanning a QR code. Advertisers can sponsor Rivals Arena with interstitials in between gameplay and endemic brands will have an opportunity to cobrand the entire game experience.
  • The Six: The Six is an interactive trivia game built directly into a Samsung connected device. Anyone with a Samsung TV remote can play The Six directly on their TV, while advertisers can cobrand the entire experience to drive brand engagement and recall.

Samsung’s gaming offerings will continue to evolve with the introduction of new games that can be played in entirely new ways, with more on Samsung’s gaming initiatives, as well as how advertisers can get involved, coming soon.

Samsung Ads’ presentation was held at Lavan Midtown in New York City. For more information on Samsung Ads and the services available on Samsung Smart TVs, please visit samsung.com/us/business/samsungads.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Grace Kim stumbled to a 5-over 76 on Saturday in the LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship — and still held onto a share of the lead.

It was that kind of a day at Wilshire Country Club, the tree-lined layout made difficult by bumpy poa annua greens and tricky wind conditions.

“It’s tough for everyone today,” Kim said. “It was just one of those days. It’s just golf.”

Four strokes ahead entering the day after rounds of 64 and 66, Kim was tied with fellow Australian Hannah Green, the defending champion who saved par with a 12-footer on the par-3 18th for a 70. They were at 7-under 206.

“The putt that I made on 18 almost felt like I birdie,” Green said.

Maja Stark, playing alongside Kim in the final group, bogeyed the 18th for a 73.

“You know that you can’t take every missed putt too personally because that’s going to happen for everyone,” Stark said.

The Swede was a stroke back with Jin Hee Im, the South Korean player who had a back-nine 30 in a 63 for the best round of the day, and Germany’s Esther Henseleit (71). Nasa Hataoka of Japan was 5 under after a 64.

Kim bogeyed the par-5 second hole and had a double bogey on the par-3 fourth. She also dropped shots on the par-4 10th and 16th holes.

“I tried to stay in the present of just the next shot, giving myself good chances,” said the 23-year-old Kim, The LOTTE Championship last year in Hawaii for her first LPGA Tour title. “I know I had a few three-putts in there, but just keeping my head in the game and not losing that shot focus.”

The 27-year-old Green rebounded from a 2-foot par miss on the par-4 17th with the par save on 18. After bogeying three of the last six holes on the front nine, she played a four-hole stretch on the back nine in 4 under. She eagled the par-5 13th and birdied 14 and 16, then missed the short putt on 17.

“I didn’t really have many full swings. Had a lot of half-shots in,” said Green, the winner in Singapore early last month for her fourth LPGA Tour title. “With the greens firming up and getting bouncy it kind of made it hard to completely trust that shot.”

Stark finished second last week outside Houston in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda in the first major of the year. Korda withdrew Monday, a day after her record-tying fifth straight victory.
