Grand Junction’s third retail marijuana store is expected to open next week, with the Grand Junction Greenery scheduled for a grand opening Friday.
Greenery Executive Director Jesse Anderson said the company picked its space, located at 762 Horizon Dr., because of its location and feel.
Anderson said the company has been leasing the space for three years.
“It used to be a massage parlor, but before that it was a funeral home,” Anderson said. “The embalming room is actually our non-marijuana storage room, and it had all the creepy traps for all that and has the corpse lift in the back.”
The Greenery was first opened in Durango in 2015 by Fort Lewis College graduates Joel Cameron and Brian Capsay.

The Grand Junction Greenery is the company’s second physical retail location. The Greenery also operates a grow operation, a hash factory and a cannabis consulting firm.
Anderson said the company is still looking for employees. Fully-staffed, the store will probably have about 12 employees.
Anderson said the Greenery will be an open and welcoming space.
“Clean and simple, that’s what we’re going for,” Anderson said.
Anderson said he’s hoping to focus the Greenery’s business on locals.

“We are going more after the local base because eventually Utah will legalize,” Anderson said.
Anderson said The Greenery expands slowly and intentionally, and the company plans to be in Grand Junction for the long haul.
“It’s very difficult to figure out what to expect,” Anderson said. “We’re just hoping it’s a success.”
After The Greenery opens, seven of the 10 stores that received licenses from the city have yet to open, but five of those have received licensing from the state of Colorado as of Nov. 1.
Those that have been approved by the state are The Garage at 545 Colorado Ave., Native Roots at 683 Horizon Dr. Unit 110, Golden Rookie at 605 Grand Ave., The Buzz at 1022 North 3rd St., and The Green Horizon at 739 Horizon Dr. Unit B.

Will travel for turkey: some colorado holiday brunches (and things to do, too), take the holidays on the road in aspen, telluride, estes park, colorado springs and more.

Break from tradition and embark on a culinary quest this year for your Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, or New Year’s meal. Imagine carving into a turkey at a historic hotel with a mountain backdrop, or dominating a five-star buffet before hiking in a nearby national park.
Here’s a selection of brunch options for the upcoming holiday breaks. Pack your bags and appetite, and get ready to explore:

The Stanley Hotel’s Cascades Restaurant & Lounge has a three-course holiday dinner for both Thanksgiving and Christmas ($99-$109/adult). This makes for an easy trip to the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. 333 E. Wonderview Ave., Estes Park; 970-577-4000; stanleyhotel.com
Plus, Twin Owls Steakhouse is hosting Thanksgiving dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 23. Reservations are highly recommended as space is limited. 3110 S. Saint Vrain Ave., Estes Park; 970-586-9344; taharaa.com
Where to hike, skate, or snowshoe: Rent skates, cross country skis or snowshoes at Estes Park Mountain Shop. My favorite trails are Ouzel Falls Trail or Lake Haiyaha, but it may be icy! Or head to the skating rink at YMCA of the Rockies.
COLORADO SPRINGS
Reserve a seat at one of the renowned Broadmoor Hall brunches for either Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. This longtime annual tradition features a stunning buffet of pastries, seafood, meats, cheeses, eggs and desserts. Reservations are required (from $110/adult). Across the street from Broadmoor Main, 1 Lake Ave., Colorado Springs; 855-421-4301; broadmoor.com

Another option in the Springs is Grand View at Garden of the Gods Resort & Club , fresh off of a $40 million renovation. They will have holiday brunch buffets (from $65 per person) with items like lobster rolls, mimosa fried chicken, and eggs benedict. Executive chef Nathan Gresham collaborates with the on-site Strata Spa dietician to ensure wellness options on the menu. (The 31,000-square-foot Strata Spa also offers IV therapy, float therapy, and nutritionists.) 3320 Mesa Road, Colorado Springs; 719-632-5541; gardenofthegodsresort.com
Where to hike: Seven Falls to Inspiration Point; it costs $17 to enter, but is a beautiful canyon walk close to town. Contact the Broadmoor for tickets and shuttles. Garden of the Gods is also a local treasure to check out after dessert; the Central Garden Trail is one of the easier ones to find.
GRAND JUNCTION
On the fourth floor of Hotel Maverick , Grand Junction’s first boutique hotel, the on-site rooftop restaurant, Devil’s Kitchen, is doing a traditional Thanksgiving feast with a twist. The pre-fixe menu will be available on Thursday, Nov. 23 from noon to 6 p.m., with chef-inspired salads, entrees, sides

and desserts. Expect beetroot and apple salad, roasted turkey breast, Colorado whiskey-glazed ham, sweet potato gnocchi, creamy mashed potatoes, roasted sunchokes, harvest dressing, acorn squash or green bean almondine on the side. $60/adult. Reservations are recommended. 840 Kennedy Ave., Grand Junction; 970/822-4848; thehotelmaverick.com
Where to hike: Where else? Devil’s Kitchen is a short out-and-back within the Colorado National Monument and, yes, the restaurant at Hotel Maverick is named after it. If you have a pooch, hike to Mica Mines instead; it’s on BLM land and allows dogs.
At St Julien Hotel & Spa , choose from two Thanksgiving options: brunch in the hotel’s ballroom from 12 to 5 p.m., offering a grand affair with a variety of dishes, or a three-course prix fixe dinner in Jill’s Restaurant, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Think seafood bar with smoked salmon, Alaskan king crab legs and shrimp; a carving station with turkey, prime rib and Verlasso salmon; and plenty of vegetarian options (from $109/adult, inclusive of bottomless sparkling wine, Bloody Marys or mimosas). A three-course prix fixe Thanksgiving dinner is served in Jill’s Restaurant from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Reservations recommended. 900 Walnut St., Boulder; 720-406-9696; stjulien.com

Where to hike: Hiking is a year-round sport in Boulder. If there is snow or ice, pick up some YakTrax or spikes for your shoes at Neptune Mountaineering in south Boulder, then choose from so many trails, starting at trailheads at NCAR or Chautauqua. Or hike to the summit of Green Mountain via the West Ridge, which is not so big a climb and has amazing views in any season.
Hotel Jerome is offering a four-course Harvest Feast that blends traditional and non-traditional Thanksgiving. They’ll also do Christmas Eve and Christmas Day “Chef’s Feasts.” 330 E. Main St., Aspen; 855-331-7213; aubergeresorts.com
Tucked away on 40 acres in Aspen’s West End neighborhood, The Aspen Meadows Resort is throwing a Thanksgiving Feast and then creating a winter wonderland with a reindeer village, Hanukkah celebrations, plus an outdoor bar with hot cocoa and mulled wine, sleigh rides, and gingerbread house and cookie decorating. 845 Meadows Road, Aspen; 970-300-2786; aspenmeadows.com
Where to hike and snowshoe: For hiking, strap some spikes onto your boots and head up Maroon Creek Road (closed to cars in winter) to Maroon Lake, for a stunning winter adventure. There are plenty of snowshoe and cross-country ski trails of all difficulties around town. The Aspen Cross Country Center is a full-service ski and snowshoe center, located at the Aspen Golf Course, with equipment rentals and access to the Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail System.

Madeline Hotel & Residences , a ski-in luxury resort at the base of Telluride Ski Resort, will offer holiday feasts at Black Iron Kitchen and Bar for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve dinners. Reservations can be made on its website. There’s an annual prix-fixe Thanksgiving Dinner ($120/adult), and also Christmas Eve and New Year’s feasts. 568 Mountain Village Blvd., Telluride; 855-923-7640; aubergeresorts.com
Where to hike, snowshoe and ski: Head to the Telluride Nordic Center (telluridenordic.com) in the Town Park for cross-country ski lessons, gear rental and trail maps. Bear Creek Trail is a popular snowshoeing route in winter, starting from Town Park — and it’s not too steep.

KREX Grand Junction
New Colorado Weedery Location opens in Grand Junction
Posted: November 2, 2023 | Last updated: November 2, 2023
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ( KREX ) — Among several new businesses opening up in town, including the clothing store Burlington in just a few days, is Colorado Weedery’s Grand Junction store, which opened today.
For owner Jesse Loughman, this is his third building in operation.
So, what makes this debut special?
Jesse’s is just the second dispensary to open in Grand Junction, the first was Lucky Me. The city drew ten winners from a recent dispensary-license-lotto…and the process is challenging.
He tells me regulations continue to change in the industry, primarily because of how new the legalization of it is.
One of the new regulations is a bit different than what Jesse is used to…he tells me each night; he and his crew must lock up each product in a safe.
This requirement to store every last product away does have some benefits, like reducing the chance of crime and robbery.
Jesse tells me his store is guarded by upwards of 75,000 dollars’ worth of security measures, from cameras, safes, locks and more.
So far, Jesse is happy with the turnout. We’ll see soon enough just how well cannabis manages to set the local economy…ablaze.

The Colorado Wine Train Pairs Memorable Scenery with Local Wines
Colorado Group Tour Planner , Food & Beverage

The three-day Colorado Wine Train experience shows off Colorado’s stunning beauty and introduces passengers to some of the state’s best wines.
On the surface the Colorado Wine Train looked to be a fairly logical concept. Grand Junction has wineries, and Amtrak’s California Zephyr stops in Denver and Grand Junction on its journey from Chicago to San Francisco. But logic sometimes needs some hard work before it becomes reality. Barb Bowman and Debbie Kovalik, formerly with the Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau, were up to the task.
Bowman states, “We needed to convince our board of directors that a Wine Train was a good marketing idea. One train ride and they were convinced.” A need for a strong marketing partner to handle the reservations was also a necessity, so AAA Colorado came onboard. The final challenge, Bowman continues, “was convincing Amtrak that adding a private car in Chicago for the round-trip made good business sense.” Forty wine trains later, there’s as much excitement today as there was on that first train.
The experience begins with a continental breakfast before the Wine Train departs Denver’s Union Station. The legs of the journey are a Rocky Mountain climb and stops in Winter Park, Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. Passengers will travel through numerous tunnels and view the Colorado River through the Rocky Mountains. Many of the sites are otherwise inaccessible. To say the scenery is spectacular may be an understatement. From mountain vistas and occasional wildlife to peach and grape vineyards, there is wonderful variety to the landscape. The train ride is just the beginning.
Joining the ride in Denver is Dave Tewksbury. A retired restaurateur and well-recognized sommelier, Dave’s Wine 101 seminar is informative for both newcomers and connoisseurs. Talks by representatives from the Colorado wine industry share the viti-cultural history of the region.

Toasting on the Royal Gorge Route
Lunch is served near Glenwood Springs, where the Zephyr will stop and representatives from local wineries come onboard and join the fun. Two or three wines from the region are paired with cheese and chocolates. Passengers get off the train in Grand Junction and check into a local hotel for a two-night stay. Dinner tonight is at any of Grand Junction’s award-winning restaurants.
Following breakfast the next morning, six of the more than 20 Grand Valley wineries are visited. Tours and tastings are a wonderful introduction to this American Viticultural Area. Tonight, participants are hosted at a local winery for a Wine Maker’s Dinner. The vineyard owner or winemaker will share why which wines were paired with every menu item.
The third day provides an opportunity to explore Grand Junction, including local downtown shopping, the nearby Colorado National Monument or the Museum of Western Colorado.
There may even be time to sneak in more vineyard visits. Small groups will have van transportation to local vineyards and attractions in addition to motorcoach transportation back to Denver.

Colorado Weedery opens second location in Grand Junction
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - Two cannabis stores have officially opened out of the ten applicants who were granted applications.
The Colorado Weedery is the newest cannabis store in Grand Junction, offering high-quality recreational cannabis products. This is the second store in the city and the second location for the weedery. The first location established was in Palisade, and the owner said that he plans on keeping it open. According to the owner, the Grand Junction location will have a majority of the same products as the Palisade location.
The rest of the licensed cannabis stores must open for business within a year of the randomized selection process that awarded the licenses, but there is a process available for extending that time for an additional year.
The new Colorado Weedery is located at 879 Struthers Ave Unit A, Grand Junction, CO 81501.

Dave was a great tour guide for a girl's birthday party weekend in Palisade. We booked the safari truck for a 4 hour wine tour. Dave took us to 4 great wineries based on our tastes. Then he came back and picked us up for dinner in a van. Super great service!

"We stopped in for a restaurant recommendation but spent time with Rondo showing us biking trails on Mesa Top. He is a wonderful resource for information. We look forward to our return."
"Thank you Rondo for an amazing family adventure. Your customer service, knowledge and enthusiasm made our trip to Palisade just perfect. We all had a great time riding your cruisers between vineyards and the Wine Country Inn. We'll definitely be back to get out on the SUP boards in the river. Till next time! Maces, Colorado Springs."
"One of the owners, Rondo, was extremely helpful and friendly! Because we had some rain on day 1 of an all day rental, he let us have it the following day- all day! That is what I call good business!! Bikes were excellent. Return girl was very friendly too. I would rent again in a heart beat."
"What a great place to rent paddle boards or bikes. On a last minute idea with no reservation on a Friday, I rented a sweet Ibis Carbon mountain bike, hit the Palisade rim trail and will not forget it. They took care of me with helmet and bike in no time, tuned up bike and out in minutes at a good price."
