The announcement follows Swift’s big reveal during her recent Grammys speech that her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , will be released on April 19. (Take advantage of Target’s pre-order deal by March 16 online here .)

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) will be available to stream on-demand on Disney+ on March 14 at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET. Although the streamer doesn’t currently offer a free trial, Verizon Wireless subscribers with eligible Unlimited plans can get Disney+ for free for six months when they sign up by May 17 — so you can technically stream The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) online for free; learn more here .

Disney+ costs $7.99 per month for the ad-supported plan, but one of the best deals on the streamer is the Disney Bundle . New or returning subscribers save 44 percent off the Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu bundle compared to paying for each service separately. That brings the price to $14.99 per month, compared to $26.97 monthly separately.

You can also upgrade to the  ad-free version of the Disney Bundle for $24.99 — a 42 percent savings over paying for each service without ads individually. Lock in the price to get all three streamers mentioned above, with no ads on Hulu or Disney+. The plan also lets you download content to watch on the go (say, for when you don’t have a WiFi connection).

Fans don’t need to be a member of Amazon Prime or Prime Video to stream the movie on the platform; however, those who want to watch on Apple TV will need an Apple TV+ subscription to buy or rent on that service. If you stream The Eras Tour on Prime Video , you’ll get access to additional X-Ray content that will showcase each song as it plays in the film and the ability to connect to Amazon Music to listen to more tracks from the tour.

The link in your text will direct you to the show you were selected for — either a show that was available during registration or a show that was announced after registration closed.

If you were selected for a show available during registration, your code will enable you to shop  that  show  or any show in the same city  that was announced after registration closed. (You will not be able to shop a different show that was available during registration).

If you were selected for a show announced after registration closed — i.e., the link in your text directs you to one of those shows — your code is good for that show. We recommend you use the code for that show as it will have the greatest availability for you. If you choose, you can use your code instead for the show you prioritized first during registration; however, we expect demand for that show to be higher and your wait to be longer.

‘This Is Extraordinary’: Why the Eras Tour Is Taylor Swift’s Greatest Live Triumph Yet

By Rob Sheffield

Rob Sheffield

“Jersey, welcome to the Eras Tour!” Taylor Swift yelled on Friday night. “There is one thing that I daydream about with the childlike enthusiasm of a hundred birthday parties, and that is MetLife Stadium Night 1.” That gets the mood about right. She spent this weekend at her long-awaited MetLife Stadium shows in New Jersey destroying the hearts and lungs of 83,000 of the planet’s most godforsaken messes. All three shows were chaotic jubilation, full of songs we’ve waited years to sing. And Taylor missed this more than any of us.

This weekend I spent three consecutive nights at these shows, singing and weeping and suffering and agonizing through an emotional epic Tay-pocalypse every night. But it feels brutal that it’s over so soon. Nobody wanted it to stop. Not even Taylor, who paused on Sunday night at her piano during “Champagne Problems” to rave, “If you think I’m just coasting along thinking this is normal, I can assure you this is not the case. This is extraordinary.”

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

The communal vibe is always intense at a Swift show, but never more than at this one. I was in the Night 1 parking lot about 10 minutes before someone I’d never met gave me a BETTY’S CARDIGAN friendship bracelet that I’m still wearing right now. I brought extra packs of pocket tissues, which came in handy when the Fearless interlude inspired a few meltdowns in my row Sunday night. When Taylor began the Evermore section into “Tis the Damn Season,” the security guy came over and said, “You the guy with the tissues?” Another couple of fans were having tear-duct emergencies, sobbing to me, “I really love this album!” ONLY at a Taylor show.

Over the show, she celebrates every part of her career, except her 2006 country debut, which surprisingly doesn’t even make a token appearance, though she’s done some of the songs as acoustic one-offs. (There’s no other career where such a great debut could turn out to be Not Era Enough.) Some of the eras turned into full-blown dance parties, like 1989 , Reputation , and Midnights . Fearless was the one era where she flashed her early twangy side — she made such a statement by stepping out on the catwalk after the first verse for a triumphant power twirl. It was pandemonium when she introduced “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story” by asking, “Jersey, are you ready to go back to high school with me?”

By the time she got to the Folklore era, it was already a few hours into the show, but her emotional brutality never let up — honestly, the worst thing that she ever did was what she did to us. She sang “The One” on the roof of a mossy cottage — the line that blows up into a real audience screamer is “You meet some woman on the internet and taaaaake her hooome .” She did just the peak of “Illicit Affairs,” the “don’t call me kid” chant — a song about sordid meetings in parking lots hit hard coming an hour after “Fearless,” a very different song about a couple in a parking lot, but maybe the same girl a few years down the line. So many of the songs felt extra cathartic live, since virtually all of us in the crowd learned to sing these songs in a moment of extreme solitude and isolation. She did “Betty,” “Cardigan,” “My Tears Ricochet,” and the unstoppable “August,” pouncing on that final “get in the car!” Also, it wouldn’t be Tay’s style to forget that MetLife Stadium is literally behind a mall .

She slips acoustic surprise songs into the set list every night, one on guitar and one alone with her piano. On Friday night, she did “Getaway Car” (with Jersey boy Jack Antonoff) and “Maroon.” On Saturday, it was a pair of New York love songs, “Holy Ground” and “False God.” But the peaks were Sunday night, when she did a stripped-down “Welcome to New York,” leaning hard on the line that people chose to overlook in 2014 — “You can want who you want/Boys and boys and girls and girls.” Then she did a devastating “Clean” on piano. Her enthusiasm spilled over with quips like “You guys always give 113 per cent” or “You will get a treat for that!” Early on Friday night, she declared, “You guys are historically a great crowd. Do you think that you want to continue that tradition?” When the fans roared, she replied, “I was hoping you would say that. In case you said no, I was going to just ditch this plan completely.”

“All Too Well (Ten Minute Version)” was the coup de grace, filling up the enormous space with the sound of just Taylor and her thousands of confidantes. It couldn’t help but evoke the moment when she sang it the first time she played MetLife Stadium — 10 summers ago, in July 2013. That night, it already seemed incredibly to think of how far she’d come so fast. But 10 ears later, hearing “All Too Well” in that same venue, it seemed to sum up everywhere she’s traveled in those past 10 years. Like the rest of the Eras Tour, it was a celebration of all the holy ground she and her audience has covered.

Dua Lipa Finds Her Bliss on 'Radical Optimism'

Trump lies that he can’t testify because of his gag order, randy travis lost most of his speech in 2013. how is he releasing a new song, david gilmour is touring. just don't ask for pink floyd classics.

At one point on Sunday night, during the Midnights finale, I heard voices and thought the security guard near me was arguing with a fan. It turned out they were just trading friendship bracelets. It’s THAT kind of show. That’s the world this woman and only this woman creates, on an epic scale, night after night. There’s no experience in music like being part of that world Taylor Swift creates for a few hours. And there’s no way not to feel joyful about taking it all with you when you leave.

Taylor Swift is, at long last, headed back on the road. Following this week’s monumental chart debut of Midnights , her tenth studio album, Swift announced the U.S. leg of her 2023 Eras tour on Tuesday morning (Nov. 1), confirming her first official tour in nearly five years following months of rumors.

“I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time. I’ve been planning for ages and I finally get to tell you: I’m going back on tour,” Swift said on GMA . “The tour is called the Eras tour and it’s a journey through all of the musical eras of my career.”

Taylor Swift Is ‘IN SHAMBLES’ Over ‘Midnights’ Dominating the Hot 100 Top 10

Swift said that after kicking off in the U.S., the tour will go on an international swing, with those dates to be announced soon.

Support on the tour will come via a rotating cast of opening acts including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, Muna, Haim, Gayle, Gracie Abrams and Owenn. The public on-sale date for the tour will be 10 a.m. local venue time on Nov. 18. Swift has partnered with Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program, with fans able to register here for the TaylorSwiftTix presale now through Nov. 9 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Registered fans will get a code with exclusive access to purchase tickets on Nov. 15 starting at 10 a.m. local venue time.

Previous Lover Fest Verified Fan purchasers will get preferred access to participate in the TaylorSwiftTix presale; make sure to register with the same Ticketmaster Account as your Lover Fest purchase. Capital One cardholders will have priority access to purchase tickets on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. local venue time through Nov. 17 at 10 p.m. local venue time or until supplies last.

Swift’s planned follow-up to the Reputation tour, Lover Fest, was scheduled to take place in 2020 following the 2019 release of her Lover album, but was canceled due to the pandemic. Since the Reputation tour, Swift has released four original studio albums — Lover , 2020’s Folklore and Evermore , and Midnights — as well as two re-recorded albums, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) , both in 2021.

This week, Midnights blasted in atop the Billboard 200 albums chart with 1.578 million equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 27, according to Luminate — the biggest week for any album in nearly seven years. Meanwhile, Swift made history on the Hot 100 by becoming the first artist to claim the chart’s entire top 10 in a single frame, with “Anti-Hero” debuting at No. 1 to become her ninth career chart-topper.

The full Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film is finally coming to streaming — with 4 bonus surprise songs

"Cardigan" and four songs from the acoustic set will be included in the "Taylor's Version" cut of the movie, which is heading to Disney+.

taylor swift live on tour

It's Swiftmas in February!

Just days after announcing her 11th studio album , The Tortured Poets Department , Taylor Swift has unveiled the long-awaited streaming plans for her blockbuster Eras Tour concert film .

Disney+ announced Wednesday that it will be the exclusive streaming home of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) , a cut of the film that will present the concert in its entirety for the first time. The new version of the movie, which also includes the song "Cardigan" and four additional acoustic songs, will make its streaming debut March 15. Swift shared the news on social media shortly after Disney's announcement.

The Eras Tour film, directed by Sam Wrench, grossed more than $260 million at the global box office, making it the top selling concert film of all time.

Buda Mendes/TAS23/Getty Images

In making the announcement, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, "The Eras Tour has been a true phenomenon that has and continues to thrill fans around the world, and we are very excited to bring this electrifying concert to audiences wherever they are, exclusively on Disney+."

The film debuted in theaters Oct. 13, and noticeably excluded five songs from the Eras Tour set list as it was performed in Los Angeles in August, when the film was shot: "No Body No Crime," "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer," "Cardigan" and "Long Live." When it later headed to VOD rentals on Swift's birthday on Dec. 13, a new version of the film featured the performances of "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer" and "Long Live" tacked on at the end, but not the other two songs.

Given that this new Taylor's Version of the film is being touted as being shown "in its entirety for the first time," it stands to reason that all the missing tracks will finally take their rightful place in the film, in addition to four additional acoustic songs. But since "No Body No Crime" is not explicitly mentioned and "Cardigan" is, it would appear "NBNC"will likely be the only song to not make the cut, presumably since it was a performance with Haim unique to only a small handful of Eras Tour dates, and the concert film is more inclusive of the tour as a whole.

As for the four new acoustic performances in the film, on each of the three nights the concert was filmed in L.A., Swift performed two different surprise songs during the acoustic set, meaning there were six different possibilities for the film in that section of the show. In the original theatrical and and VOD rental versions, only "You're On Your Own, Kid" and "Our Song" made the cut. That means that the remaining acoustic performances of "I Can See You," "Maroon," "You Are in Love," and "Death by a Thousand Cuts" will likely be in the film somewhere.

taylor swift live on tour

It is an objectively good bit when Taylor Swift, near the beginning of every concert, cocks her elbow to hold her microphone at the ready, then pans across her doting assemblage and tells them something they already know.

“Hey, I’m Taylor!”

Yes, Tay, it said that on the ticket. Now, it is an apt reintroduction.

A global superstar saying hello to 50,000-plus fans like she’s meeting each and every one of them over lattes exists at the intersection of massive and intimate, where Taylor Swift’s shows thrive. Plus, it has been awhile. Swift’s long-awaited Eras Tour kicks off Friday, marking her first concert dates since 2019 and first tour since the 2018 Reputation Tour (Lover Fest, the four-show mini-tour Swift planned in 2020, when she probably would have introduced herself again and brought out who-knows-what pyrotechnics, deep cuts, and surprise guests, was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic).

She’s kept plenty busy in the meantime—releasing five albums (three original and two rerecorded), a concert film, and the All Too Well short film, for which she won a Grammy—but there’s something special about a Taylor Swift live show I think we’ve all been missing. The wait is nearly over, but, until then, enjoy this highly subjective but also totally correct ranking of her five best live performances ever.

Honorable Mention: “Bad Blood” and “Should’ve Said No” mash-up, the Reputation Tour

We will get to the fact that she spends the first 90 seconds of this number floating over the venue in a giant snake endoskeleton in a moment. First, a note about the process here: We’re not including covers, though if you’re asking, my favorite is a tie between the version of Phil Collins’s “Can’t Stop Loving You” she did for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and just these vocals on repeat . We’re also not going to mention parodies. Why? Because I’m already cheating and including an honorable mention outside the top five because I want to talk about this mash-up from the Reputation Tour.

It’s a clear example of the time-honored Taylor tradition (Taylordition?) of taking one of her lesser works and improving it live. I am not speaking of “Should’ve Said No,” an early classic, but of the song that takes the lead in this mash-up, “Bad Blood”—which rhymes “bad blood” with “mad love” and, despite Kendrick Lamar’s best efforts , never approaches dynamism in its studio recording.

But tell Swift one of her songs doesn’t work, and she’ll find a way to switch it up and prove you wrong. (The best pure example of this is her performance of “Out of the Woods” at the Grammy Museum in 2015 , which removed the bad production and percussion that made the original sound like something off the Lion King soundtrack and better revealed Swift’s cinematic lyrics.)

“Should’ve Said No” does a lot of the heavy lifting here. It’s a juicier melody to begin with, but Swift takes it a step further by tweaking the melody for the live arrangement so that it packs an even greater punch.

In the studio arrangement, Swift sings the same notes on the line “You should’ve said no” as she does on “You should’ve gone home.” In the live medley, the melody drops so that the phrase ends with “home” on a D instead of an E. In the harmonic world of that song, the D is what gives the listener that major-chord dopamine hit and a sense of resolution. You hear it eventually on the studio version, but hearing it sooner intensifies the payoff, particularly as part of a medley where the arrangement moves quickly from each section. It’s the type of attention to detail Swift probably doesn’t have to pay at this point, except that, to her, the details are basically the entire point.

That’s not to say that “Bad Blood” isn’t doing any of the work. It ties the older track in with something more recent and better suited to the snakes-and-stones aesthetic of the Reputation Tour. It’s the right platform for her band, which shows off on the synthesizer and sneaks in a little banjo for old times’ sake. And even if “Bad Blood” isn’t the greatest song, it’s still a big one, one that allows for light shows, dancers flipping from the rafters, and, yes, Swift being deposited on stage by a chariot made of snake bones. Iconic.

5. “Death by a Thousand Cuts (Live From Paris),” the City of Lover concert, 2019

I deeply regret this exercise for putting me in a position where I have to choose between this live cut and the version of “Cornelia Street” from the same show in front of 2,000 fans at the Olympia theater in Paris, where Swift performed a 16-song set list in one of the few shows she was able to do promoting the Lover album. (“Bonsoir Paris! Je suis Taylor, enchantée!” was how she introduced herself in this one.) The whole show was an elite vibe, but the highlight was a six-song acoustic session in the middle of the show focused on tracks from Lover , which Swift used to demonstrate how they sounded in their original forms. “With this album, everything I wrote, I wrote it with one instrument,” Swift told the crowd. “I wrote with my guitar or with my piano, so I thought to myself that I wanted to try them out for you, sing them the same way tonight, live, because this is my first time playing them in front of you.” It’s just her, singing and strumming in a spotlight, listening to the crowd sing the words with her. “Death by a Thousand Cuts” gets the edge here for the way she sings “not my baby” in the second chorus.

4. “Better Man,” The Bluebird Cafe, 2018

In 2016, as she sat atop the pop universe after 1989 , Swift wrote a country song called “Better Man” for the group Little Big Town, and their recording of it spent two weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard country charts. She won Song of the Year at the Country Music Awards for writing it and was nominated for a Grammy. Solid flex.

In 2018, Swift performed the song as a surprise guest at the Bluebird Cafe, the famed Nashville music club she played at as a teenager before getting her first record deal. She sang it with just a guitar alongside Country Music Hall of Fame songwriter Craig Wiseman, and, suddenly, it felt obvious Little Big Town was just borrowing something Swift so clearly owned. The “middle of the night” references and the way her voice trembles over the words “We might still be in love if you were a better man / You would have been the one if you were a better man” is pure Taylor—she packs the entire narrative weight of a song into the final couple of lines. Swift and Wiseman followed up the performance by doing shots of Fireball . Solid flex indeed.

3. “I Knew You Were Trouble,” the Red Tour

The year was 2013, and we had reached the auteur period of Taylor Swift’s live shows. She was playing stadiums, not arenas, at this point and had learned to take full advantage of the tech, production, and design elements available to her. This performance includes: a violin solo and gymnastics routine intro, a costume change, an entire masquerade ball of dancers, smoke, a light show, a guitar solo, a throne, and a garment that can best be described as a bustle.

What’s cool, though, is that it’s still true to what made the studio version of this song, which was released as a single in October 2012, so good. It’s incorrect to call the moment that the beat dropped on “I Knew You Were Trouble” truly revolutionary—Britney Spears leaned hard into dubstep on “Hold It Against Me” nearly two years earlier—but it was a significant moment in Swift’s musical evolution. This Red Tour version gives the bass plenty of time to wub, then adds to it with all the production elements and lots of vibrant harmonies when the chorus comes back around. Swift earns degree of difficulty points here too, because the jumpy melody of this song makes it a sneakily tricky one to sing live.

This song came about three-quarters of the way through the set list and was followed by “All Too Well,” which hit like a ton of bricks and is only excluded from this list because the studio versions, both the original and 2021’s 10-minute version from Red (Taylor’s Version) , hit like two tons of bricks. Together, these two songs form the clear emotional peak of the Red Tour. Both were brought back for various award show performances and tours, with good reason—the version from the 1989 World Tour could easily have gotten the nod just on the merit of the high note before the final chorus—but the Red Tour rendition deserves special recognition for being all about that bass.

2. “Long Live,” the Speak Now World Tour, Gillette Stadium rain show, June 25, 2011

I’m convinced Taylor Swift has her own weather patterns. Rain , pouring rain , rain on pavement , and various other forms of precipitation have come up at least 23 times in her songwriting catalog. In “Forever & Always,” it rains inside someone’s bedroom (fix your plumbing, Joe Jonas). So it shouldn’t be a shock that downpours seem to follow her tour bus .

“Long Live” is a great live song, whatever the weather. It’s an ode to the fans and a triumphant promise to cherish the connection between performer and audience. It was only right, then, that when the skies opened up into a downpour—at what was then the biggest venue she’d played as a headliner—Swift looked out at the crowd and decided that if they were staying, she was too. For about 30 seconds, she just stares, jaw dropped, shaking her head slightly in disbelief. This performance is lost to the streaming world other than in a few grainy YouTube videos. What those clips lack in audio quality, they make up for in footage of a 21-year-old realizing, in real time, that she was actually living out her dream.

1. “Wildest Dreams” and “Enchanted” mash-up, the 1989 World Tour

It is telling that this epic five-and-a-half-minute medley is fundamentally simple. Swift sits at the piano and starts performing “Wildest Dreams,” a song about wanting to be remembered fondly by someone who’s no longer in your life. (It’s a stunning song, also featured in a Grammy Museum rendition that’s nearly as good as this one.) The synths and some backup vocals come in to support her eventually, and the song starts to build, but there still aren’t a lot of bells and whistles.

She sounds great. Swift has had some shaky moments with live vocals in the past, but her voice has gotten stronger and steadier as she’s progressed through her career. You can hear the product of that work in the bridge of “Wildest Dreams” (“You’ll see me in hindsight”) and in the notes she holds toward the end.

After the second “Wildest Dreams” chorus, she transitions into “Enchanted,” a song off Speak Now about meeting someone for the first time and wanting them to be part of your life. Once the two songs combine, the shape of the story gains dimension, and the whole performance starts to expand until, four minutes into the performance, she goes full Lizzie McGuire Movie , rips off her floor-length tulle skirt, and finishes the medley while strutting down the stage’s runway into the crowd wearing a glittery bodysuit. And it is sparkling. Don’t you let it go.

Each night of Taylor Swift’s blockbuster Eras tour, superfan Tess Bohne gets dressed up in her best Swift-themed outfit, paying homage to a beloved song, a red-carpet look or an album’s anniversary. By then, she’s already researched the projected set time, along with the exact minute Swift is expected to play her much-anticipated surprise songs that are unique to each concert.

But as the onstage countdown clock approaches zero, signaling Swift’s entrance, Bohne, 32, isn’t cheering from a stadium. Instead, at home in Salt Lake City, she fires up her husband’s laptop, searches for feeds from fans holding up their phones in the crowd and begins to broadcast a livestream of Swift’s three-hour-plus set on TikTok to her 160,000 (and counting) followers.

Night after night, thousands of Swifties are gathering to watch the superstar perform their favorite songs through their 5-inch phone screens. For some with tickets to future shows, it’s a chance to preview the set list and better prepare for the big day. For others who enjoyed an earlier stop of the tour, it’s a way to relive cherished memories and keep in touch with the community.

And for fans who can’t afford the lofty ticket prices or live too far from a destination city, these unauthorized TikTok livestreams are the only way to get a glimpse of her billion-dollar-grossing, Ticketmaster-crashing tour.

Bohne, the unofficial “Eras tour cruise director,” has become a one-stop shop for fans looking to watch from home.

It’s a love story, L.A. just says yes: How Taylormania took over the world

Cultural dominance. History-making album sales. Sold-out stadiums. Add them up, and Taylor Swift’s current moment has little precedent in pop-music history.

Aug. 1, 2023

After attending the second show of the tour in Glendale, Ariz., Bohne watched livestreams on TikTok night after night, looking to recapture the magic of seeing Swift in the flesh. Often, the experience paled in comparison to the real thing — choppy feeds would cut in and out or drop entirely, or an overly eager fan’s earnest singing would drown out the notes from the stage. But instead of giving up, Bohne resolved to curate and improve the livestream viewing experience.

She first went live on TikTok when the tour stopped in Atlanta at the end of April. At one point, her control center included multiple iPads, allowing her to track down alternate streams and switch back and forth when videos cut off midset.

“We called it the iPad Shuffle,” Bohne said. “In the beginning it was just a place where people could see where to find these streams. It wasn’t a great concert experience. But then it turned into a seamless watching experience.”

These days, Bohne goes live from her husband’s work computer while using an iPhone and iPad to scour TikTok, as well as sites like swiftstream.gay and various Twitch accounts, for backup streams. As her reach has grown, a number of brands have reached out seeking collaboration opportunities; she’s typically more excited to hear directly from Swift fans expressing their gratitude for her work.

“I had two different people message me and say they had panic attacks during the shows, and sitting down to watch the stream has been healing for them,” Bohne said. “Others had really bad anxiety trying to track down these streams, and I’ve been able to alleviate that for them. It makes me feel like I’m doing something worthwhile.”

The ultimate guide to seeing Taylor Swift at SoFi Stadium

Parking! Public transit! Fan chants! Friendship bracelets! Everything you need to know before you see Taylor Swift at SoFi Stadium for the L.A. stops of her Eras tour.

Aug. 4, 2023

An essential part of the ersatz Eras-watching experience is Swiftball, a Taylor-fied fantasy football game started by Twitter user @reckedmaserati , in which fans attempt to predict outfits, surprise songs and other goings-on. Winners have received prizes ranging from Swift CDs to merchandise to handcrafted art, all of which are donated by other Swiftball players.

The most recent Swiftball on July 29 received more than 11,000 submissions on Twitter, and on a typical TikTok stream, you’ll find a jumble of fans erupting with digital cheers or boos each time an answer is revealed.

“TikTok is the pinnacle of this,” said Russ Crupnick, managing partner at marketing research and industry analysis company MusicWatch and a professor at New York University. “It helps to magnify everything that’s going on around a tour. In the old days, if you didn’t have a ticket, you didn’t get to participate. Now you can.”

At the outset of the tour, it was harder to avoid the Swift livestreams on TikTok than it was to find them. In its quest to push the most engaging live videos to its For You page, TikTok’s algorithm boosted bootleg streams of the concert nearly every night, as Swifties locked in for hours and commented away.

Eventually, TikTok removed streamers while they were live and suppressed them from the For You page.

“I feel like it’s become a lot harder to find streams,” Bohne said. “I got suspended once by TikTok, about two weeks ago, for intellectual property. That’s what’s been a little bit frustrating. I can have permission from someone who’s at the show to [use their stream], but if they’re not supposed to be streaming, I don’t know.”

A gaggle of fans at a Taylor Swift concert

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, created in 1998, protects platforms from being held liable for content that infringes on copyrighted material, as long as the platform has a mechanism for rights holders to report and take down the offending content. During the internet’s early years, it was easier for copyright holders to locate and remove such items. Now, the proliferation of content has made that game of whack-a-mole virtually impossible.

“There are dozens if not hundreds of these videos popping up,” said Tatiana Cirisano, senior music analyst at Midia Research. “There’s a sentiment that this law was built before social media really existed, and it was meant to allow for creativity, and allow platforms to host things other people had made, without worrying about liability. But this was before there was so much content posted all the time, so now, it doesn’t really work.”

Representatives for Swift and TikTok did not return a request for comment.

Don’t get stuck in traffic. How to take public transit to see Taylor Swift at SoFi Stadium

Not a lover of $100 parking spaces? There are plenty of ways to get to Taylor Swift’s concerts at SoFi Stadium by train or bus.

July 31, 2023

Since the pandemic shuttered live music in 2020, authorized concert livestreams have grown in popularity. Just about every major festival streams the majority of its sets on platforms such as YouTube or Twitch, and according to a report from Midia Research, the amount of people watching shows from home nearly doubled in the past two years, from 9.3% at the end of 2020 to 17.7% at the end of 2022.

Fans who consume the raw, user-generated streams on TikTok typically skew younger than YouTube audiences drawn to professional-quality recordings, but Cirisano believes that livestreams, whether authorized or bootleg, won’t cannibalize ticket sales.

“There’s obviously overlap between [ticket-buying and livestreaming audiences],” Cirisano said. “But there’s nothing that can replace the in-person concert.”

Crupnick argues that labels and music publishers shouldn’t prioritize filing copyright strikes against fans who are providing free promotion for their favorite acts. Instead, he says, the growth of user-generated livestreaming could become another negotiating chip in the copyright owners’ fight to extract more money from the social platform.

“At some point, they could take it all down, but fans will put it back up just as fast,” Crupnick said. “I think what the labels really want is fair compensation from TikTok.”

For Bohne, the TikTok livestreams are another way to feel connected to Swift.

“If I could talk to Taylor, my message to her would just be a giant thank you,” Bohne said. “She’s given us a community where we can find people who understand one another.”

The show was absolutely amazing! Definitely worth every cent. I have been obsessed with Taylor ever since 2010, and this was only my 2nd show, and I was SO CLOSE! It was so admirable that the show went on, even though there was a THUNDER STORM. I loved the fact that she really appreciates us as much as we appreciate her, and I hope she knows that I will be there for her no matter what. There was a REALLY tall person, almost like a basketball player in front of me, which was a bit disappointing because I'm so short, but for some reason, he got replaced just before the show started, and I was so glad #sorrynotsorry I'm pretty sure the security did that. ANZ Stadium you did amazing, sweetie! Love you Taylor, and can't wait to see what you do next! <3 <3

This concert was AMAZING!!!! Okay, so even though we got rained on and were soaking wet and cold by the concert's half-way point- that aside... I had so so so much fun. Taylor is one of my idols and role models and it was so great to see her live. She is such a performer and not only was the music and atmosphere so contagiously happy, but the actual show and set design and technology that made it all happen was also amazing. From the lights, to the LED screens, to the blow up snakes, it was definitely the highlight of my week, and I would OF COURSE either go see her again or recommend it to my friends and family. Thank you Taylor and crew for an unforgettable night!!!!!!!

reputation Stadium tour Seattle, 9/10. It all started when Charli XCX started singing. She was pretty good. But she probably shouted “SEATTLE!” 10 times. But the reason why I gave the whole thing a 9/10 was because Camila was not there. She had dehydration. And Taylor didn’t make up for it. Then it was TAY TAY! She came on stage with a “bad girl effect.” Singing Ready for it, I did something bad, and Gorgeous. Then it was a mashup of Style, Love Story, and You Belong With me. Then she sang look what you made me do. A HUMONGOUS SNAKE. Came out. It was so cool! Then with a gold jacket/background came End Game and King Of My Heart. Then she flew to the B-Stage while singing delicate. When she got to the B-Stage, we were SOOO close!!! She sang Shake it off with Charli. And then she got a guitar. And I freaked out. She sang Dancing with our hands tied and the mystery song. The mystery song ended up being “Holy Ground”. Then she went to the OTHER B-Stage and sang Dress and Blank Space. Then she flew on a snake cage to the main stage while singing bad blood. Then she sang SHOULDVE SAID NO. FROM 2006! I was freaking out. Then she came out and showed everyone her vocal range with Don’t Blame Me. Then she went to the piano and sang Long Live and New Years Day together. Then came purple jacketed GetaWay Car. Then there was a fountain and a mansion background and she sang Call It What You Want. Then came the last song. We are never ever getting back together/This is why we can’t have nice things. She got soaking wet in the fountain. And there were FIREWORKS!!!! It was truly amazing. Recommend it so much.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Setlist Has Over 40 Songs — Does She Ever Lip-Synch?

Chris Barilla - Author

Mar. 20 2023, Published 3:30 p.m. ET

On March 17, 2023, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour kicked off near Phoenix, Ariz., and fans are already going wild over the singer's expansive new setlist for the concert series. With a whopping 44 songs that stretch from her earliest days of fame to her most recent releases, there's something for every kind of Swiftie at Taylor's new shows.

The Eras Tour spans roughly five months of stadium touring across the U.S., which is quite a lot of performing for anyone, even someone as experienced as Taylor. Naturally, that much work could take a toll on someone's ability to use their voice to its fullest potential. With that being said, does Taylor actually sing at all of her live shows? Can fans anticipate any lip-synching when they see her perform? Keep reading to find out what we know about the situation.

Does Taylor Swift actually sing at her live shows?

Questions surrounding if Taylor actually sings live at her shows or not have been around for at least the singer's last three tours. While there is no way for fans to know for sure, it is fairly known that the singer does utilize a backing track, which contains her vocals.

Why would Taylor do this? Well, her music contains many layers and often multiple vocal tracks. It would be physically impossible for Taylor to sing over herself, so she allows the backing track to carry the background vocals that she has layered into the studio recording while she helms the lead via the mic.

All-in-all, Taylor has jokingly lip-synched in the past, but likely not during her live concerts. One instance of that was when she was partying and mouthed the words to "Shake It Off" in a viral video .

If Taylor wants to lip sync for some of the 53 shows we gonna let her! 3hrs 44 songs and choreography for 53 shows is 🫣🫣🫣 #TaylorSwift #erastour — Lavender Haze ate (@bobaonmymind) March 18, 2023

Regardless, whatever Taylor decides to do, Swifties understand either way.

"If Taylor wants to lip-sync for some of the 53 shows we gonna let her! 3hrs 44 songs and choreography for 53 shows is [face with peeking eye emoji] #TaylorSwift #erastour," wrote one fan on Twitter.

"I know Taylor sings live at her shows as much as she can rather than lip-syncing, but I would honestly be OK with her lip-syncing for a few songs during the show to rest her voice if it meant a longer show," wrote another fan on Reddit.

‘Running tens of thousands in debt from the tour and I’m being told that it’s normal’ … Arooj Aftab performing in Brooklyn in June 2023.

‘The working class can’t afford it’: the shocking truth about the money bands make on tour

As Taylor Swift tops $1bn in tour revenue, musicians playing smaller venues are facing pitiful fees and frequent losses. Should the state step in to save our live music scene?

W hen you see a band playing to thousands of fans in a sun-drenched festival field, signing a record deal with a major label or playing endlessly from the airwaves, it’s easy to conjure an image of success that comes with some serious cash to boot – particularly when Taylor Swift has broken $1bn in revenue for her current Eras tour. But looks can be deceiving. “I don’t blame the public for seeing a band playing to 2,000 people and thinking they’re minted,” says artist manager Dan Potts. “But the reality is quite different.”

Post-Covid there has been significant focus on grassroots music venues as they struggle to stay open. There’s been less focus on the actual ability of artists to tour these venues. David Martin, chief executive officer of the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC), says we’re in a “cost-of-touring crisis”. Pretty much every cost attached to touring – van hire, crew, travel, accommodation, food and drink – has gone up, while fees and audiences often have not. “[Playing] live is becoming financially unsustainable for many artists,” he says. “Artists are seeing [playing] live as a loss leader now. That’s if they can even afford to make it work in the first place.”

Potts, who works at Red Light Management – home to everyone from Sabrina Carpenter to Kaiser Chiefs and Sofia Kourtesis – feels like there is an industry equivalent of the Spider-Man meme in which they are all pointing to one another. “People who work at labels think bands make loads of money touring, while booking agents think they make loads of money on publishing and so on,” he says. “Everyone thinks artists make money from the other side of the industry they’re not involved in.

“Artists are the biggest employers in the industry. They pay for the tour manager, session musicians, agent, manager, crew, insurance, travel, accommodation, equipment, rehearsal space, production. Everything. I don’t think people know this is all the stuff that the artist pays for and does.”

Lily Fontaine of English Teacher performing in 2022.

“Greater transparency is needed,” says Lily Fontaine, lead singer of Leeds band English Teacher. On paper, the four-piece appear to have made it. They are signed with a major label, Island, have played on Later With … Jools Holland, get healthy BBC Radio 6Music airplay, their debut album has received five-star reviews and they are about to embark on their biggest tour to date, which includes an 800-capacity home-town show.

“The reality is that it’s normal for all of these achievements to coexist alongside being on Universal Credit, living at home or sofa surfing,” says Fontaine. During the making of their debut album, she and bandmate Lewis Whiting did the latter while unable to afford rent.

In their four years of existence, English Teacher have yet to turn a profit from touring. “We’ve never directly paid ourselves from a gig,” says Whiting. “A headline tour usually comes out with a deficit. The only thing that we ever make any kind of profit on is festivals, because the fees can be higher, but any money left over just goes towards the next outgoings.” A successful show for the group in the past has been defined by whether they can flog enough merch to afford a supermarket food shop.

So how do they survive? “In the world of artists, we’re in a lucky position,” says Whiting. “We try to pay ourselves £500 a month each from the band pot.” However, they’ve been reliant on their advance for this, which is now gone. “We’re now in that stage where we’re gonna have to figure out where that £500 a month is gonna come from,” says Fontaine. “Because the gig fees won’t be able to cover that.” The band estimate that their 16-date UK tour in May will generate roughly £800 profit. But, says Fontaine, “realistically, I don’t think there will be any profit because things always go over budget”.

For many artists, fees aren’t increasing in line with costs. “There’s been no real incline at all,” says Potts. “For support slots, I don’t think the fees have changed in the last 10 years or so that I’ve been managing, whether that’s £50 at the smaller end or £500 quid for some of the biggest shows.” Fees for headline shows can vary enormously for bands, even on the same tour. Playing a 200-capacity club in Newcastle may land you £600, while a 1,500 cap in London may net you £3,000.

And fewer people are coming to shows at the small-to-mid-sized end of things. “In our audience data, we see there is a gap in new audiences coming through post-pandemic,” says the FAC’s Martin. “As well as a bit of a drop-off in some of the older audiences returning to live shows.” However, despite stagnant fees and shrinking audiences, touring activity in the UK is at a peak. Due to the costs of touring Europe (which can be thousands in taxes and carnet alone) 74% fewer UK bands are now touring Europe post-Brexit. “It’s much more difficult to tour in Europe so there are more artists trying to perform domestically,” says Martin. “That creates a saturation problem.”

For this article, the Guardian has seen 12 tour budget sheets for various bands and artists varying from up-and-comers to firmly established and successful acts, all of whom regularly undertake headline tours across the UK in venues ranging from 150 to 2,500 capacity. Almost all of these result in losses. Understandably, most shared their balance sheets on the condition of anonymity. One four-piece indie band, whose last two albums went Top 10 in the UK charts, reported a loss of £2,885 from a six-day UK tour. The only tour that shows anything resembling healthy profit was a 29-date tour for a solo artist who came away with £6,550. Not bad going for a month’s work but, as Martin points out, “that’s then his touring done for the next six months. So it’s not enough money.”

‘It’s getting more difficult, without a shadow of a doubt’ … Nubiyan Twist.

Nubiyan Twist are a nine-piece Afro-jazz outfit who have a loyal following and tens of millions of streams on Spotify, “We pride ourselves on being able to put on a big show, like your Fela Kutis or James Browns, these epic spectacles,” says bandleader Tom Excell. “But it’s getting more difficult, without a shadow of a doubt.” For an upcoming eight-show tour of Europe, they are predicting a loss of £4,931.28. The only way they can justify doing it is because they got funding from the BPI Music Export Growth Scheme. “I would have just pulled the plug if it wasn’t for that,” says Excell. “I’ve got a two-year-old and I can’t be away from home for that long and come back with a loss.”

Even when the band get more lucrative fees for festivals it’s still tough. They will be paid £5,000 for a festival performance this summer but the total profit after band wages (as Excell pays all his band members in full first) expenses and commissions are paid out will be £277.60. “After four albums and 15 years doing this, to still be having to gamble on whether I’m going to make anything, while everyone else gets paid a guaranteed amount, is a struggle,” admits Excell.

Such thin margins leave little wiggle room, as the space-surf band Japanese Television (who headline 100-300 capacity venues) found out when their booking agent reduced their 13-date UK and EU tour to eight shows with a five-day gap in the middle that will add a further loss of around £1,200 to a tour that is already set to lose them around £700. “Records and T-shirts are basically what keeps us going,” says the band’s Tim Jones. “The only way this tour is working for us is because we just put out our second album and we did about 60 presales on the vinyl and that was basically enough to pay for the van. It’s a hobby that just about pays for itself.”

after newsletter promotion

The question is: who else will be able to afford to pursue music as a hobby? “It depresses me how many middle and upper class people there are in the music industry,” says manager Potts. “Because the working class just can’t afford to fork out £150 a day for van hire. The only artists doing that are people who have deeper pockets and can afford to take the hit.”

Of course, every act is different in terms of what they justify as reasonable outgoings and not everyone has the same costs, but Potts says from his experience, generally speaking, bands with four or five members now need to be playing 2,000+ capacity venues nationwide to “really start to see things tip”. That tipping point is out of reach for the majority. “Most people don’t actually get to that level,” Potts says. “Just look back at any festival lineup from 10-20 years ago and see which names are still on festival bills and how many you’re like: what happened to them?”

The gap between those who are flying and those who are floundering has become even more stark. “It feels like the top 1% have become the top 0.5%,” says Martin. “The level of artists we’re talking about here that are struggling to make things stack up financially would really surprise people.”

In 2022, the Grammy-winning Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab posted on X: “Touring has been amazing. We headlined a ton, had massive turnouts and have proven ourselves in all the markets. Yet still, running tens of thousands in debt from the tour and I’m being told that it’s ‘normal’. Why is this normal? This should not be normalised.”

I’m told that one US artist – who released one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2023, which went Top 10 and placed very highly on numerous year-end polls and was nominated for a major award – worked out that the only way she could make her UK tour work was by sub-letting her home.

Workers in Singapore prepare the merch stand for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour earlier this year – the tour is set to break a billion dollars in revenue.

It’s a far cry from Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras jaunt. “The very high end of the live industry is reporting record profits,” says Martin. “You can’t have a healthy music ecosystem where at one end you’ve got people going ‘we’ve made more money than we’ve ever made’ and at the other end you’ve got relatively successful artists that are sofa-surfing while signed to a major label.”

Is there an answer? “When you’re touring Europe, you realise how much state funding in the arts there is,” says Excell. “It really needs more state funding and support from the top down.”

Martin echoes this. “The government needs to start looking at spending money on the music industry as an investment rather than as a cost,” he says. “But you also need to support a sector in a time of crisis. And this is a time of crisis.”

To determine the most affordable Eras Tour stops, Islands.com researchers compared the cost of a two-night trip, including one cheap ticket on StubHub.com, two nights at a four-star hotel, six inexpensive meals, two five-mile taxi rides, and one domestic beer. Travis Kelce auctioned 4 tickets for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour — and made $80,000

  • Travis Kelce auctioned off four Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets for $80,000 at a charity event.
  • The auction took place at Patrick Mahomes' 15 and Mahomies Foundation Golf Classic gala.
  • In 2023, Swift's Eras Tour contributed significantly to her estimated earnings of $1.1 billion.

Travis Kelce sold four tickets to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour for $80,000 at a charity auction hosted by Patrick Mahomes.

Kelce and Swift attended the auction at The 15 and Mahomies Foundation Golf Classic gala in Las Vegas on Saturday, which raised money for health, wellness, and community resources that impact the lives of children.

Swift seemingly decided to auction off the tickets spontaneously, as they weren't included in the docket.

"I think, um, I was just talking to my significant other, and uh, we might have one other auction item that wasn't on the docket," Kelce said in a video posted to TikTok , cited by People .

"Has anybody heard of the Eras tour?" he said. The crowd cheered in response.

Kelce went on to say they had four tickets for the Eras Tour's US dates in New Orleans, Miami, Oregon, and Minneapolis later this year.

Harry Santa-Olalla, the auctioneer, confirmed in an Instagram post that the tickets sold for $80,000.

Santa-Olalla also documented the moment Kelce "convinced" Swift to auction the four tickets in an Instagram Story, according to People.

Several videos circulating on social media showed Swift and Kelce entering the event , and later, Swift was filmed waving a red napkin as the tickets were auctioned.

Bloomberg estimated that Swift earned $1.1 billion in 2023, largely due to the success of the Eras Tour.

An analysis by research company QuestionPro, cited by a Business Insider report , found that the average Swiftie spent $1,300 to head to the Eras Tour in 2023.

Some fans who spoke to BI's Juliana Kaplan admitted to spending up to $20,000 on expenses relating to Swift's tour, including flights, accommodation, costumes, and tickets.

Last year, data from the research company QuestionPro provided exclusively to CNN estimated Swift's tour will gross $2.2 billion in North American ticket sales, and that is before the resale market.

Footage From Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Rehearsals Hint She’s Adding ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Songs

Taylor Swift European Eras Tour Rehearsals Seemingly Have Tortured Poets Department Clues

Taylor Swift might be gearing up to hold a Tortured Poets Department board meeting in the middle of her European Eras Tour concerts.

Swift, 34, uploaded a video of her tour prep to YouTube Shorts on Thursday, April 25, with the caption, “A fortnight till Paris.” In the clip, Swift practiced her setlist alongside her backup dancers.

While eagle-eyed fans noticed that Swift had run through performances of the likes of “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” and “Karma,” they also noticed snippets from a few numbers that had seemingly never been seen on stage.

In one instance, Swift played a white guitar and fans clocked that ivory hue matches the iconography of her new album , The Tortured Poets Department . There also appears to be a desk positioned on stage at one point in the video that could be another reference to the department. In another clip, Swift — wearing her now-viral PopFlex Active skort — leaned against a railing with white letters in the center. Fans have speculated the letters spell out “TTPD.”

“That’s the TTPD logo on the railing,” one user pointed out via X. “Omg TTPD is getting her own set at The Eras Tour !”

Swift also wore black lace-up heels as she posed on the railing, which other social media users compared to the similar Victorian-inspired pumps she sported in her “Fortnight” music video with Post Malone . (“Fortnight” is also the lead single off of TTPD.)

Another moment in the YouTube clip shows Swift surrounded by her backup dancers, the latter of whom are wearing circus-inspired top hats. Fans believe it is teeing up a TTPD performance of “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” because of the big top lyrical reference, “I was tame, I was gentle ’til the circus life made me mean / ‘Don’t you worry, folks, we took out all her teeth.”

Another social media fan speculated: “Why do I feel like these are definitely rehearsal pics for TTPD songs ‘cause when have we ever had the dancers with hats and sticks.”

A selection of Swifties even think that they figured out the entire TTPD set that will be added based on an Instagram post by Pandora. The streaming station posted a “What song are you listening to next from The Tortured Poets Department?” graphic, specifically naming “Fortnight,” “The Alchemy,” “But Daddy I Love Him” “Down Bad” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” Swift’s official fan account, Taylor Nation, reshared the upload onto its Instagram Story page on Thursday.

One of Apple Music’s Swift-themed playlists, aptly titled “Taylor Swift Essentials,” has since been updated to include “Fortnight” and “Down Bad,” which other fans think further tease setlist plans. Apple’s official Eras “Setlist” playlist, however, has not been updated to include any TTPD hits.

Swift kicked off her Eras Tour in March 2023, traversing the United States and Central America to perform her sold-out show before beginning the international leg. Following overseas shows in Japan, Australia and Singapore earlier this year, Swift has currently been on a month long hiatus.

The Grammy winner’s next show is in Paris on Thursday, May 9, but she has not publicly revealed if or how the set list is changing to accommodate TTPD . It is also possible that the newly released tracks could pop up during her acoustic “surprise song” section .
