Who doesn’t love a good inspirational quote?! Whether you are looking for the perfect Instagram caption for your family travel photos or simply want a little inspiration to take that trip with your kids, we’ve compiled a list of the best family travel quotes and quotes about trips with family.
These quotes about family travel capture the joy, inspiration, and even the struggle of traveling with kids.
The best family travel quotes by topic
Every family is different, and our reasons for traveling are different. Some families travel primarily for educational purposes. In fact, worldschooling, a form of homeschooling while traveling full-time, is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to a traditional education.
Other families simply travel to make memories with their children , relax, have fun, and get away from the day-to-day stresses of normal life.
Not all family travelers fit into the same box, so not all of these family vacation quotes will apply to every family. For this reason, we have categorized our list of travel quotes to make it easier to find the best quote or family travel caption for you!
Family travel quotes about making memories
One of our main reasons for travel is to make memories with our daughter. After all, we work full-time jobs, and our daughter is now in full-time school and extra-curricular activities. Our lives at home are busy. So travel is a good way for us to go off the grid and reconnect with what is most important – family. H
ere are some of our favorite family holiday quotes about making memories with our kids.
“Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.” – Charles R Swindoll
This has long been one of our favorite quotes about traveling with kids. In fact, we even have it in the footer of our website. For us, it is a reminder to try to make each day with our daughter count.
“The greatest legacy we can leave our children is happy memories.” – Og Mandino
Some of my own favorite memories from childhood are of family vacations. My family didn’t have a lot of money growing up, but those long road trips and inexpensive family camping trips are still some of my happiest memories.
(They’re even better when you have the right kids’ camping gear .)
The point I’m trying to make is that a family trip doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to be memorable. You can leave a legacy for your children regardless of how much money you have in the bank.
“Build traditions of family vacations and trips and outings. These memories will never be forgotten by your children. “ – Ezra Taft Benson
“Memories made together last a lifetime.” – Unknown
“in the end, kids won’t remember the fancy toy you bought them, they will remember the time you spent with them.” – kevin heath.
We have made it a family mission to invest in travel instead of toys. We prioritize travel because we believe that the lessons learned and the memories made will far outweigh any toy or item we could ever give our daughter.
“Fill your life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.” – Unknow n
“actually, the best gift you could have given her is a lifetime of adventures.” – lewis carroll.
Another one of our personal favorite travel adventure quotes . As the parents of a very adventurous little girl, this quote speaks directly to my heart. Parents of boys – you could easily replace the word her with he and the quote has the same valuable meaning!
“The family that travels together, stays together.” – Unknown
I’m sure this family trip quote isn’t always true. But for us, traveling is the greatest bonding experience as a family. Even before we were parents, traveling as a couple made our relationship stronger.
While traveling comes with it’s fair share of challenges, I guarantee you, all the stressful moments of a family trip are worth it!
Family travel quotes about learning through travel
We truly believe that travel makes kids smarter. In fact, there have been actual studies on this that have proven it true. But travel doesn’t just help you retain knowledge, travel teaches lessons that you cannot learn any other way.
As our society has become more global-minded, many parents have realized family travel is a form of education.
We have compiled quite a few quotes on the educational benefits of travel, because travel has been a learning experience for us and for our daughter. Here are some of our favorite educational trips with kids quotes.
“Not all classrooms have four walls.” – Unknown
“There are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.” – Walt Streightiff
We have a family travel bucket list that we created soon after our daughter was born. Basically it is a list of places we want to visit as a family. From that bucket list, we have created a plan to take our daughter to all seven continents and all seven wonders of the world.
But one of the great things about traveling with kids, is that a hiking trail just outside of your hometown can create just as much wonderment for a child as seeing the Taj Mahal.
Seeing the world through our daughter’s eyes has made travel that much more rewarding as parents.
“The best education you will ever get is traveling. Nothing teaches you more than exploring the world and accumulating experiences.” – Mark Patterson
“Travel is rich with learning opportunities, and the ultimate souvenir is a broader perspective.” – Rick Steves
This family travel quote hits me like a gut punch.
You can buy your kids lots of souvenirs from your family vacation, but the greatest gift you’re giving them comes from simply showing them the world and introducing them to new cultures, foods, languages , and people.
“Experience, travel – these are as education in themselves.” – Euripides
“of all the books in the world, the best stories are found between the pages of a passport.” – unknown.
I mean, who doesn’t love going back through your passport and looking at all the different passport stamps?! Each one brings back a flood of memories from trips you’ve taken.
“Travel is a great teacher.” – Unknown
“Travel is not reward for working. It is education for living.” – Anthony Bourdain
So many of us treat a family vacation as a reward for hard work. As a dual-income family and parents with very demanding jobs, we understand why.
While travel can be very rewarding and a welcomed break from work, it is also nourishment for the soul and the brain. In fact, our brains probably work harder on an international trip than they do when we are sitting at our desks dreaming of one.
“Then I realized adventures are the best way to learn.” – Unknown
“Travel is like an endless university. You never stop learning.” – Harvey Lloyd
Even as adults, we are still learning through travel. Every time we visit a new country, we step out of our comfort zone and into someone else’s.
Travel is the best teacher. The only way to an open mind is by taking a plane out into the open world. – C. JoyBell C.
“There is no time to be bored in a world as beautiful as this.” – Unknown
Every parent has heard the complaint “I’m bored!” from their children. But travel reminds us just how much fun this planet is!
“The world is your playground – Play with a sense of destiny.” – Edward Boyden
A great way to learn about your country is to leave it. – Henry Rollins
When you travel with your kids, they don’t just learn about other places, they learn about their homeland.
Perhaps, they will learn to appreciate the privileges and freedoms they have in their own country. Or perhaps, they will realize there is more than one way of doing things, and both may be OK, or the alternative may even be better.
“Don’t tell me how educated you are. Tell me how much you’ve traveled.” – Prophet Muhammad
“at the end of the day, your feet should be dirty, your hair messy and your eyes sparkling.” – shanti.
We probably have a thousand pictures of our daughter that perfectly illustrate this family travel quote.
Her hair is always messy, she won’t wear shoes to save her life, so her feet are always dirty, but man, do her eyes sparkle with wonder!
“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – Saint Augustine
“Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what to count is best.” – Bob Talbert
Reading is important, so is counting and math. We are strong believers in academia, but we also believe that many of life’s real lessons are learned through travel.
“A mind stretched by travel can never go back to old dimensions.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr .
“travel sparks our imagination, feeds our curiosity, and reminds us how much we all have in common.” – deborah lloyd.
This is another personal favorite family travel quote of ours. We love visiting new places that looks like settings from a Disney movie and watching our daughter’s imagination come to life. Even better, watching our child make friends at playgrounds around the world with kids who do not look like her or even speak the same language, but they find commonality and friendship regardless.
“We know that travel is essential to a complete education. Traveling abroad teaches understanding of other people, cultures, and communities, and these types of experiences offer young people a greater ability to be successful in today’s global society.” – Michael Palmer
I’m often embarrassed by the things I may have said or done as a young adult simply because I didn’t know any better. Travel has changed by perspective on a lot of things.
When you travel abroad, you are no longer ignorant to the ways of the world, to the conditions in other countries, or the views of other people. You learn, you grow, and you are better equipped for conversing or even doing business with those from other countries.
By traveling with your children you are planting the seed for a global perspective.
“Traveling is the best education. You see the world through another lens. You realize your homeland isn’t the only reality. There are many.” – Unknown
“And suddenly you realize your travels were more education than vacation.” – Unknown
And there it is friends! Even the trip that started as a family vacation can hold significant educational value for kids . New sounds, textures, and experiences all help a child’s ever-expanding mind grow!
Family travel quotes about the struggle of traveling with kids
We pride ourselves in showing the good, the bad, and the very, very ugly aspects of family travel. Traveling with kids can be extremely rewarding, but it can also be extremely tough, especially in the early years . After all, the tiniest humans have the biggest emotions!
If we had a dollar for every time we heard someone ask “ how do you do it? ”, “ Why do you do it? ” or tell us, “I don’t know how you do it!” when speaking about traveling with kids, we would probably have enough money to book a trip around the world.
Here are some of our favorite quotes and captions for family trips that may give you some encouragement through the travel struggles and stresses.
“Deciding not to travel with your children because they won’t remember the trips you take is like saying don’t read them books because they won’t remember the stories you read.” – Unknown
We have heard so many times that our money spent on traveling has been wasted because our daughter was too young to remember the trips from her early years.
Each trip and experience shapes you, no matter how young or old you are.
“Excuses will always be there for you. Opportunity won’t.” – Unknown
“you call it chaos, we call it making memories.” – unknown.
There is a bit of chaos that goes into doing anything with kids. Whether you are getting them ready for school in the morning, or boarding a flight to a new continent, some level of chaos should be expected.
Unfortunately, for many the fear of chaos keeps them from traveling with their kids. But it shouldn’t. Plan for it, embrace the chaos and make those memories!
“Having kids is reason to travel. Never a reason to stop.” – Unknown
There are two kinds of travel: First class and with children. – Robert Benchley
To be fair, we have never traveled first class. Even before children, we were budget backpackers.
With children, we are still budget travelers who often stay in hostels with kids . But this family travel quote still has a lot of truth, because once you’ve traveled with kids, traveling without your kids feels like first class!
“It is never too early to begin exploring the world.” – Unknown
“i have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” – mark twain.
We always recommend before you marry someone and have kids, go on an extended trip together to a place that feels very foreign to you. How you navigate the stress of being in a new country will teach you a lot about each other.
If you make it through traveling as a couple and still love each other, go ahead and start planning a life together. You’ve found a good one!
Family travel quotes about changing your perspective
Travel will change your perspective on a lot of things, even if you do not intend for it to. We are different people than we were before we started traveling, and we will likely continue to change, evolve, and grow with each trip we take. Your children will, too.
Except, children are like sponges, they absorb so much more, and their minds are more open because they are not yet set in their ways, so travel stands to have an even greater impact on kids.
“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
“Do more things that make you forget to check your phone.” – Unknown
The average person touches their smartphone 2,617 times per day! Each of those swipes and taps adds up to 145 minutes spent consumed by a device.
Sometimes, as a family, we physically have to remove ourselves from the constant distraction by traveling off the grid to a remote area where the WiFi is weak or non-existent. It forces us to stop checking our phone. But regardless of where you travel, travel in and of itself can make you completely forget to check your phone. And for this reason, we should all travel more!
You will never look back on your life and think “I spent too much time with my kids.” – Kimberly Mcleod
“there are no foreign lands. it is the traveler only who is foreign.” – robert louis stevenson.
This is a great lesson to teach kids early in life. When you visit a new country it is you who is foreign, not the people you meet there.
When we visited Morocco with kids , it was a huge culture shock. There was a language barrier, transportation challenges, and a lot of cultural differences that seemed “foreign” to us. However, we went to bed the first night in Morocco determined to wake up with a different outlook. Our ways of life were not their ways of life. But we were in their homeland, not ours.
We, as visitors to their country, were the foreign ones. Once we embraced that, we had a wonderful time in the North African country.
“Time is precious. Waste it wisely.” – Unknown
Traveling in the company of those we love is home in motion. – leigh hunt.
Home doesn’t have to be a physical place. It is a feeling we can carry with us anywhere as long as we are with the people who are and will always be our home.
“You are my home and my adventure all at once.” – Unknown
We had to use a picture of Iceland to illustrate this quote because the country perfectly captures the meaning for us. In so many ways Iceland was a wonderful, out-of-this-world adventure, but somehow this wild island nation felt so comfortably like home to us.
“I take my children everywhere but they always find their way back home.” – Robert Orben
Again, home doesn’t always have to be a physical place, and the concept of returning home to the people you love, is a beautiful thing.
We hope our daughter always knows, she can always come “home” to us, even as an adult, no matter where we may live.
“The world is full of wonderful things you haven’t seen yet. Don’t ever give up on the chance of seeing them.” – JK Rowling
Two of the greatest gifts we give our children are roots and wings. – Hodding Carter
Nothing will give your children the confidence to fly like traveling. And having their parents there with them on every journey will give them roots. Book. That. Trip.
“It’s a big beautiful world. Most of us live and die in the same corner where we were born and never get to see any of it. I don’t want to be most of us.” – Oberyn Martell
“don’t listen to what they say. go see.” – unknown.
Misconceptions will always exist. For example, we had always heard Mexico City was a dangerous place to visit. But after visiting the capital of Mexico, we realized that much of the city is very safe, and visiting Mexico City with kids is a great vacation!
“Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life.” – Michael Palin
Funny family travel quotes
Our list of quotes about travel with family wouldn’t be complete without a few funny ones thrown in there. Laughter and kids go hand-in-hand, so here are a few of the funniest quotes about family travel.
I wish travel therapy was covered by health insurance.
Don’t we all!?
You can’t make everyone happy. You are not a plane ticket.
Every parent knows you can’t always please your kids.
We would have to make macaroni and cheese every night in order to please our daughter. (Just kidding, she has actually always been an adventurous eater – thanks in part to traveling.) But knowing just how hard it is to please our children sometimes, this family travel quote makes us giggle.
“A road trip is a way for the whole family to spend time together and annoy each other in interesting new places.” – Tom Lichtenheld
Travel becomes a strategy for accumulating photographs. – Susan Sontag
We take so many pictures on trips, and most of them are of our kid! It basically looks like she started traveling solo at the age of 2.
If you’re like us and have 4 million travel photos, invest in an external hard drive to store your memories all in one place.
Education is important. But travel is importanter.
My favorite memory from childhood is my parents paying for my holidays. .
Travel can get expensive unless you’ve learned the art of travel hacking… Hence why we often stay in hostels as a family rather than springing for a fancy hotel.
Mondays are better at the beach.
No list of travel quotes would be complete with at least one or two beach quotes . Also, can we just make beach Mondays a thing? Please.
I love those days when my only decision is window or aisle.
Let’s be real… as a mom, you rarely get the window seat. This is a containment strategy that anyone who has ever had to fly with a toddler quickly learns. But regardless, I’ll take a day in the middle seat over a day at home!
If you look like your passport picture you probably need a trip.
All parents who travel with their kids look like their passport photo. Traveling with kids is exhausting! But it is so worth dealing with jet lag !

I’m making sure my daughter travels a lot so when she’s older she won’t be impressed by a weekend in Miami with your dusty son.
Another great girl mom quote. Nothing against Miami, it’s more about showing your kids the world so they choose their significant other wisely. After all, you want them to marry their perfect match!
Going on a trip. Need about 5 outfits. I’ll pack 35 just to be safe.
While this quote is funny, it definitely doesn’t apply to us. Even packing for a baby, we pack only the baby travel essentials !
My mom watches a special type of news program that only reports on horrible incidents happening in places I’m about to visit.
You never stop being a mom, and moms never stop worrying about their kids. You know how I know that? As an almost-40-year-old woman, my mother still calls me to tell me about some terrifying thing that JUST happened in whatever country we are traveling to.
She was even worried when we took our child to Iceland. One of the fun facts about Iceland : it’s the safest country in the world!
Our own family travel quotes
Overtime, as you travel as a family, you develop a few of your own travel quotes. I’m sure plenty of other traveling parents have used these quotes or something similar, as well.
But for us, these are things we have said without knowing the origin. They are more so observations we have had during our travels.
Play is a universal language.
We first said this while watching our child at a playground in Prague, Czech Republic . She was playing with a little girl who spoke French, a girl who spoke Chinese, and a local kid from Czech Republic. None of them spoke the same language, yet it didn’t seem to matter.
Traveling with kids is a trip – not a vacation.
As we’ve mentioned traveling with kids can be a challenge. It is not a vacation . In fact, you might feel like you need a vacation after your “vacation”.
Of all the paths you take on life, make sure a few of them are on skis!
We are a family of a skiers. In fact, our child was only a toddler when we taught her to ski .
For this reason, we believe at least some of the life’s paths should be through snow, and preferably on skis!
How to display your favorite family travel quotes
While most people use family travel quotes as captions for family trips, you can also display your favorite family holiday quotes in several other ways.

Whether you create a travel-themed nursery or kids’ room, or just want to bring a little inspiration to your home so you can feel like you’re traveling even when you can’t , a wall hanging with a decorative font is a great way to incorporate your favorite travel quote into your home decor. You can even find some pre-made on a canvas!

Family Trip Quotes with Kids:
1) “Collect moments. Not things.” - Karen Salmansohn, Author
I am starting off with one of my favorite quotes as a parent and a traveler. I have this quote hanging in our kitchen as a reminder for our family of what really matters. Traveling with kids has its shares of challenges. Its good to have reminders and inspiration as the to why behind traveling with kids.

Love these Wood Flag Pins to add to your world traveling map!
4) "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." - Helen Keller
My natural inclination is to seek safety for my kids. But, many times it is the spontaneous adventures that are the most memory-making! One time we were visiting Amsterdam with two small kids. And instead of taking a tram or taxi back to our rental apartment, we chose to walk. The walk ended up taking 3 hours but during that time we got to experience the many rings of canals, markets, and street life that we would have missed!
Family Trip Quotes about Giving Your Kids The World
5) "Travel is like an endless university. You never stop learning." - Harvey Lloyd Photographer
This is one of my favorite parts of travel for my kids as well as myself! Each new experience leads to new insights and learnings. For instance, on a boat ride in Thailand’s Phi Phi Islands, we learned about the natural wildlife (monkeys and eagles!) but also about the people who call the Islands home from our incredible guide Mars. My then 3 year old might forget the epic islands. But will never forget Mars’ kindness and that mommy monkey holding her baby!
6) “Experience, travel – these are as education in themselves.” – Euripides, Ancient Greek playwright
Well if an Ancient Greek over 2,000 years ago said it, it must be true! Many teachers have found this travel quote to be true around the world.
7) “Two of the greatest gifts we can give our children and roots and wings.” - Hodding Carter, political author
A beautiful maxim that I’ve seen throughout my life. I moved nearly every year as a child but my mom always reminded us that 2 things remain the same, our family and God. I am so thankful for our experiences to travel as a kid as well as the roots of home, wherever in the world that may have been! These family travel quotes encourage me to follow in my mom's footsteps.
8) “When you travel with children you are giving something that can never be taken away… experience, exposure, and a way of life.” - Pamela T. Chandler, author of The Adventured Star
Family travel is truly priceless!
Quotes about Stretching Your Horizon Through Family Trips
9) “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” - Oliver Wendell Holmes
This follows the famous Mark Twain travel quote about being fatal to prejudice (in the next section). Such an important aspect to traveling with our kids is that their new experiences broaden not just their memories, but their viewpoints!
10) "If we were meant to stay in one place, we'd have roots instead of feet." - Rachel Wolchin
I love this family travel quote as a reminder to us as parents that part of our role is to encourage our children to grow and explore the world they live in.
11) "Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul." – Jamie Lyn Beatty
A caveat is that many jobs can and do fill your soul! But I think this is a great encouragement to prepare our children not just for their future vocation but for their future adventures!
12) “Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.” - Dolly Parton
Of course, we had to finish this section with a Dolly Parton quote! This may not usually be on lists of family travel quotes but I think it deserves to be! She walked the talk with her various educational programs impacting hundreds of thousands. Be sure to check out her Imagination Library program which sends free books monthly to children from birth to Kindergarten.
13) "Every day we make deposits in the memory banks of our children." - Charles Swindoll
14) "Memories made together last a lifetime." - Unknown
15) "We were together. I forget the rest." - Walt Whitman
16) "Deciding not to travel with kids because they won't remember, is like not reading them books becuase they won't remember the stories you read them." - Unknown
17) "Travel is the only thing that you buy that makes you richer." - Unknown
Maybe not the only thing but makes you richer for sure!
Family Vacation Quotes:
18) “Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” - Ibn Battuta, 14th century Explorer
Maybe this is my favorite travel quote right here in the middle of the stack?! The wonder of travel and the stories that come from traveling to different lands cannot be overstated.
19) “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” – Mark Twain
This is one of my favorite family travel quotes because it gets to the heart of the impact of travel on one’s outlook on the world. For our kids, showing them the world is not just about a fancy vacation, but a broadening of their minds. We found this to be true when traveling and living in Taiwan. As a white mom raising biracial children, I assumed too much and learned more of the nuances each day.
One tiny example of my changed understanding was comments from “aunties” in our apartment building. At the beginning, I thought these well-meaning older women were being busybodies to comment if my toddler was wearing enough clothes for the weather etc. I learned though that they really saw us as part of their community and wanted to show their concern in these comments. I got so used to this that when we moved back to the States, I was slightly offended no one in the check-out aisle was commenting on if my kid had the right clothes on!
My Favorite Family Trip Quotes!
20) “To my mind, the greatest regard and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson author of many travel memoirs including one of my personal favorites, The Road to Little Dribbling
And this can be opened to local travel as well as dramatic international travel! I love the focus on not taking things for granted, truly a priceless takeaway from a family trip!
21) “What’s your favourite place?” “I don’t have a favourite place, I have my favourite people. And, whenever I’m with my favourite people, it becomes my favourite place.” - Nivaz Ahemad in Late Night Tales
Family vacations are about the people you travel with much more than the places you go to. I love this quote that makes that emphasis clear!
22) "To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries." - Aldous Huxley
This one might not be on a lot of family vacation quote lists but I have found it to be true! What we grow up thinking about a country is reflected in our first-hand knowledge and nothing can beat visiting in person!
23) "Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey." - Pat Conroy
Trips and vacations may end but you (and your kids!) will always have the memories to remember and enjoy! Family travel quotes are so encouraging to me because they help me to see the many ways travel impacts our lives.

24) “Wanderlust: a strong desire to wander or travel and explore the world.” – Wikipedia definition
Doesn’t get much clearer than that! Wanderlust may be overused as an Instagram hashtag but I will never get tired of exploring the world with my family.
25) "Having kids is reason to travel, not a reason to stop.” – Author Unknown
This gets to the heart of the “why” for family travel. We travel because we have kids not in spite of them!
26) “We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” – Anonymous
My 7 year old just came in and picked this as her favorite quote of the bunch! Sometimes the simplest is the best!
27) “Travel is not a reward for working, it’s education for living.” – Anthony Bourdain (seen attributed to him or Anonymous)
Oftentimes, I’ve said to myself or others that I need a family vacation or I deserve one. This is one of the family travel quotes that flips that over and says travel is part of our living!
Family Trip Quotes about Travel Expanding Your Mind
28) “Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” – Scott Cameron
What an important thing for our kids to understand. Their place and space in this world as they grow up!
29) "Remember that happiness is a way of travel - not a destination." - Roy S. Goodman
I probably need this reminder on my living room walls! Focusing on contentment in the present is so important for travel and the rest of life!
Family Travel Quotes from Famous People
30) “Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind.” – Seneca, 1st century philosopher
Don’t mess with Seneca on pithy to the point quotes! I think this is one of the great family travel quotes because it gets to the heart of a well rounded childhood.
31) “Don’t count the days. Make the days count.” - Muhammad Ali
This could be a life quote in addition to family travel quotes! In other words, even during the harder parts of travel (jet lag, I’m looking at you!), we can focus on the parts that will be lasting for our children.
32) “Travel, in the younger sort, is a part of education; in the elder, a part of experience.” – Francis Bacon, Sr.
This may be the only family trip quote that I would disagree with. I think for both kids and adults, travel is both an education and an experience! (But hey, I’m no 16th-century philosopher!)
33) "We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open." – Jawaharial Nehru, former prime minister of India
It is truly a wonderful world whether across the ocean or in our own neighborhood backyard. We can teach our kids to appreciate everything with wonder and curiosity!
Wise Words from Terry Pratchett
34) “Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.” ― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky
This is another variation of the Bill Bryson quote. Like the previous one, traveling with kids helps them to see the world but also changes their view of their home too!
35) “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” - Robert Frost, Poet
Yes, this is one of the most famous American poems, but for good reason! It evokes the wondrous spirit of being spontaneous. Family travel quotes can help encourage us to see travel as not just in the exotic trips but also in our everyday life.
Travel Quotes from Philosophers
36) “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” - St. Augustine
I didn’t know whether to include this one in the family travel quote list because it sounds a little judgmental. I understand the ability to travel is a luxury. Especially if someone lives in a country that doesn’t allow movement, doesn’t have documentation or financial resources. I don’t think travel is the only way to expand your mind. Education and reading and an open spirit to learning from all can as well.
37) “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” - Marcel Proust
Travel doesn’t have to be a huge expedition. It can simply offer a new perspective on a walk in your neighborhood.
38) “Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Can’t add much to this encouragement to see the beauty around us.
And now I leave you with 3 final travel with kids quotes:
39) “Not all those who wander are lost.” - J.R.R. Tolkien in The Lord of the Rings
Perhaps the most Instagrammed quote and the one with the most Etsy prints! I couldn’t not include this quote.
40) “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
I cannot add anything better to this Mark Twain quote. If I could, I would tattoo this to my arm! (little long and I don’t like permanent things lol!)
41) "Travelling in the company of those we love is home in motion." – Leigh Hunt, English 18thcentury poet
This is the newest family travel quote I added to my collection, and one of the most poignant. It brings together our love for our families and our love of travel!

25 Inspiring Travel With Kids Quotes For Families
Looking for inspirational travel with kids’ quotes? I have put together 25 of my favorite family vacation quotes below, and I hope they inspire you as much as they inspire me!
As working parents, we prioritize spending our free time adventuring with kids to create a strong family bond and memories.
Having kids inspired us to travel more with them and learn together as much as possible about the planet we live on. For example, exploring the beauty of Grindelwald and the underwater world of Turks and Caicos through little eyes was much more meaningful and joyful than the trips we took without kids.
I do not claim that traveling with kids is easy. But with a positive mind, the right resources, and some practical tips for flying with your little one , you and your children will create memories and experiences that will last forever.

Travel With Kids Quotes
1. ” There are no seven wonders of the World in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.” – Walt Streightiff.
This quote can go to the top of the list because it highlights the feelings I experience when looking into my son’s eyes when exploring something for the first time, whether it is a new toy, plant, or a real-life airplane.
The excitement in his eyes completely changed my mindset about traveling with kids. We aim to bring out the curiosity and excitement in our children’s eyes through exploring and adventures as much as possible.
Exploring does not always mean traveling with your passport. Simple road trips and getaways close to your house are as meaningful.
2. “Two of the greatest gifts we can give our children are roots and wings.” – Hodding Carter
This picture was taken in a Swiss Gondola while visiting The First Mountain in Grindelwald. Our 3-year-old son may not have understood our daily excursions, but he was undoubtedly excited about riding the gondolas and trains, and that was enough for us to feel joy.
3. “Not all classrooms have four walls.” – Anonymous While I am not against school education, they spend too much time inside classrooms and so little outdoors. Kids are much better off learning more about our world, different cultures, and a little bit of everything through real-life experiences combined with classroom education.
4. “Each day of our lives we make the deposits in the memory banks of our children.” – Charles R. Swindoll
5. ” Where you live shapes how you see the whole world, but when you see the world it shapes how you see yourself.” – Richie Norton
6. ” Kids don’t remember their best day of television” – Unknown

16. “In the end, kids won’t remember the fancy toy you bought them; they will remember the time you spent with them.” – Kevin Heath
17. “Of all the books in the world, the best stories are found between the pages of a passport.” – Unknown
Family Travel Quotes
18. “May your adventures bring you closer together, even as they take you far away from home.” – Trenton Lee Stewart
It’s one of my absolute favorite family quotes. If you are a working parent, you know how much time we spend away from our children.
We all need help with daily schedules and responsibilities to ensure enough time for family gatherings and playtimes. Day trips, weekend getaways, and longer destinations are crucial for reconnecting with each other.
19. ” Don’t just tell your children about the world. Show them.” – Penny Whitehouse
20. “You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance.” – Franklin P. Jones
Traveling with kids will undoubtedly test your patience at some point. You may have already had a moment when you wanted to give up trying to make it a perfect holiday.
We could not believe it was so challenging when we first went on a small road trip within the first year of my son’s life. But guess what? It gets better. One trip after another, we learned to be more patient, accommodate each other, and learn how to enjoy the journey still.
No trip is the same, but we lowered the expectations, which made the traveling so much better!
21. ” Traveling in the company of those we love is home in motion.” – Leigh Hunt
22. “Travel is not a reward for working. It is education for living.” – Anthony Bourdain
23. “Travel sparks our imagination, feeds our curiosity, and reminds us how much we all have in common.” – Deborah Lloyd
24. “Deciding not to travel with your children because they won’t remember the trips you take is like saying don’t read them books because they won’t remember the stories you read.” – Unknown 25. “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” – Anonymous.
Is it worth traveling with kids?
Speaking for my family, traveling with kids is worth it. For working parents like us who have limited vacation days, we use most of the time as a family to create the best memories.
You may ask, but will they remember any of it, or is it a waste? Maybe they will, perhaps they won’t. However, the point is to create shared experiences and learn throughout the travels as a family.
There are so many benefits of traveling with children. As Nicola has summarized in her article Benefits of travel for kids, you can expect your children to become more adaptable, patient, diverse, responsible, and more.
In conclusion, these quotes encapsulate the adventure, challenges, and priceless family travel experiences, highlighting the lifelong memories and lessons children and adults gain.
Here are some of the Key Takeaways that I believe are true when traveling with kids:
- Shared travel experiences can strengthen the bonds between family members, creating deeper connections through shared adventures and challenges.
- Both children and adults can experience significant personal growth while traveling, gaining confidence, independence, and a sense of adventure.
- Exposure to different cultures and ways of life during travel helps children develop a greater appreciation for diversity and understand their place in the world.
- Traveling with kids is an invaluable educational experience, offering lessons far beyond the classroom walls. It opens young minds to new cultures, languages, and histories.

• Mark Twain Travel Quotes
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one’s lifetime.
To do something, say something, see something, before anybody else — these are the things that confer a pleasure compared with which other pleasures are tame and commonplace, other ecstasies cheap and trivial. Lifetimes of ecstasy crowded into a single moment.
It is the loveliest fleet of islands [ Hawaii ] that lies anchored in any ocean.
No alien land in all the world has any deep strong charm for me but that one [ Hawaii ], no other land could so longingly and so beseechingly haunt me, sleeping and waking, through half a lifetime, as that one has done. Other things leave me, but it abides; other things change, but it remains the same. For me the balmy airs are always blowing, its summer seas flashing in the sun; the pulsing of its surfbeat is in my ear; I can see its garlanded crags, its leaping cascades, its plumy palms drowsing by the shore, its remote summits floating like islands above the cloud wrack; I can feel the spirit of its wildland solitudes, I can hear the splash of its brooks; in my nostrils still lives the breath of flowers that perished twenty years ago.

If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it is lethal. — Paulo Coelho
Most of us abandoned the idea of a life full of adventure and travel sometime between puberty and our first job. Our dreams died under the dark weight of responsibility. Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. — Edward Abbey
Once a journey is designed, equipped, and put in process, a new factor enters and takes over. A trip, a safari, an exploration, is an entity, different from all other journeys. It has personality, temperament, individuality, uniqueness. A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless. We find after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us. Tour masters, schedules, reservations, brass-bound and inevitable, dash themselves to wreckage on the personality of the trip. Only when this is recognized can the blown-in-the glass bum relax and go along with it. Only then do the frustrations fall away. In this a journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it. — John Steinbeck
What is that feeling when you’re driving away from people and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing? – it’s the too-huge world vaulting us, and it’s good-bye. But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies. — Jack Kerouac
A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for. — J.A. Shedd
It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any. — Hugh Laurie
Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the Earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white. — Mark Jenkins
The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. — Christopher McCandless

Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. — Unknown
I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can’t reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses. — Bill Bryson
The true fruit of travel is perhaps the feeling of being nearly everywhere at home. — Freya Stark
When you’ve managed to stumble directly into the heart of the unknown – either through the misdirection of others, or better yet, through your own creative ineptitude – there is no one there to hold your hand or tell you what to do. In those bad lost moments, in the times when we are advised not to panic, we own the unknown, and the world belongs to us. The child within has full reign. Few of us are ever so free. — Tim Cahill
No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow. — Lin Yutang
He travels the fastest who travels alone. — Rudyard Kipling

Personally I like going places where I don’t speak the language, don’t know anybody, don’t know my way around and don’t have any delusions that I’m in control. Disoriented, even frightened, I feel alive, awake in ways I never am at home. — Michael Mewshaw

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road. Healthy, free, the world before me. The long brown path before me leading me wherever I choose. — Walt Whitman
• Anthony Bourdain Travel Quotes
If you’re twenty-two, physically fit, hungry to learn and be better, I urge you to travel – as far and as widely as possible. Sleep on floors if you have to. Find out how other people live and eat and cook. Learn from them – wherever you go.
Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life — and travel — leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks — on your body or on your heart — are beautiful. Often, though, they hurt.
It’s an irritating reality that many places and events defy description. Angkor Wat and Machu Picchu , for instance, seem to demand silence, like a love affair you can never talk about. For a while after, you fumble for words, trying vainly to assemble a private narrative, an explanation, a comfortable way to frame where you’ve been and what’s happened. In the end, you’re just happy you were there — with your eyes open — and lived to see it.
Travel is about the gorgeous feeling of teetering in the unknown.
I’m a big believer in winging it. I’m a big believer that you’re never going to find the perfect city travel experience or the perfect meal without a constant willingness to experience a bad one. Letting the happy accident happen is what a lot of vacation itineraries miss, I think, and I’m always trying to push people to allow those things to happen rather than stick to some rigid itinerary.
Do we really want to travel in hermetically sealed popemobiles through the rural provinces of France, Mexico and the Far East, eating only in Hard Rock Cafes and McDonalds? … I know what I want. I want it all. I want to try everything once.
It seems that the more places I see and experience, the bigger I realize the world to be. The more I become aware of, the more I realize how relatively little I know of it, how many places I have still to go, how much more there is to learn. Maybe that’s enlightenment enough – to know that there is no final resting place of the mind, no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom, at least for me, means realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.
I think food, culture, people and landscape are all absolutely inseparable.
Food is everything we are. It’s an extension of nationalist feeling, ethnic feeling, your personal history, your province, your region, your tribe, your grandma. It’s inseparable from those from the get-go.
Southeast Asia has a real grip on me. From the very first time I went there, it was a fulfillment of my childhood fantasies of the way travel should be.
I wanted adventures. I wanted to go up the Nung river to the heart of darkness in Cambodia . I wanted to ride out into a desert on camelback, sand and dunes in every direction, eat whole roasted lamb with my fingers. I wanted to kick snow off my boots in a Mafiya nightclub in Russia. I wanted to play with automatic weapons in Phnom Penh, recapture the past in a small oyster village in France, step into a seedy neon-lit pulqueria in rural Mexico. I wanted to run roadblocks in the middle of the night, blowing past angry militia with a handful of hurled Marlboro packs, experience fear, excitement, wonder. I wanted kicks – the kind of melodramatic thrills and chills I’d yearned for since childhood, the kind of adventure I’d found as a little boy in the pages of my Tintin comic books. I wanted to see the world – and I wanted the world to be just like the movies.
At this point I think my body is like an old car. Another dent ain’t gonna make a whole lot of difference. At best it’s a reminder that you’re still alive and lucky as hell. Another tattoo, another thing you did, another place you’ve been.
Without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, and moribund.
If I’m an advocate for anything, it’s to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food, it’s a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move.
Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.

Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow is my favourite. It’s so true
I love travel quotes. They are so inspirational. Since I’m a solo traveller, #35 really resonates with me.
This is a hard one! Which would my favorite be…? I’m between my compatriot Rosalia de Castro and the unknown “Live your life by a compass, not a clock”. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, quote number one hit differently! Pieces of my heart have been left in nearly every place I’ve ever visited, any place I’ve ever made a memory with new or old friends.
“I’m in love with cities I’ve never been to and people I’ve never met.” I think that pretty much sums up why I’m driven to travel 😀 Great list!
Thanks for sharing these quotes! “Somewhere on your journey, don’t forget to turn around and enjoy the view.” is one that resonates with me most strongly. It is such an important reminder that sometimes when we’re traveling we need to put down our tour book and busy agenda and just stop to appreciate the new and exciting surroundings around us. Thanks for the reminder!
Absolutely! It’s easy to get swept up in all the “must sees” instead of what the destination is trying to show us!
Traveling is an adventure that comes with a breathtaking view is my favorite. Cant wait to travel again. Hope this pandemic ends soon
I completely love the first quote you mentioned!! I can see why you got it tattooed. After reading them all, the other one which stands out to me the most is the one about us being the foreigners!
So many beautiful quotes! I can’t wait to be able to travel again
Oh I just loved these quotes. Thanks for the great post!! I miss traveling so much!
Same here! Glad you enjoy them!
I love these! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
This is so inspirational! Love it!
Love these inspirational travel quotes! My favourite is number 11. It’s so true that a destination stays with you long after you leave it whether it’s a smell, a dish etc.
So many beautiful quotes! Love the positivity and inspiration during this crazy time we are in 🙂
So many great quotes, thanks for sharing. It reminds me of travel days.
This is a fantastic list of inspiring travel quotes! I’ve heard of most of them but also there a few that are new to me, so I really appreciate this! This one is one of my all time favorites –“Travel is not a reward for working, it’s education for living” – Anthony Bourdain
Thanks for including that one on this ultimate list!
Haha that’s my favorite reminder that work is just work. – Which (at least in America) is often forgotten.

95 most inspirational travel quotes ever penned
Our favourite inspirational travel quotes have encouraged us to travel with abandon over the years. Perhaps they will do the same for you…
For us, there is no such thing as luxury travel; travel is, by default, a luxury. It is a privilege provided by the country of our birth, a privilege that many are not as fortunate to enjoy.
Sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves at just how ridiculous our lives have become: an ex-teacher and jobbing writer travelling the world for a living. It is absurd, it is astonishing, it is luxury.
When I first went travelling at 21 years old, my father gave me this quote scrawled on a piece of card.
It infused me with wanderlust. It encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, make the most of my time, see the world and enjoy the freedom that comes with being on the road. It remains one of the most inspirational travel quotes I’ve read (even if Twain did not actually say it).
Today, 20 years and almost 100 countries later, it’s still in my wallet. Despite its tattered and dishevelled appearance, it’s every bit as important to me now as it was then.
With that in mind, we’ve collated our most beloved inspirational travel quotes to encourage readers to “explore, dream and discover” for themselves.

“Kari is an incredible photographer who takes beautiful photographs, but more important is how she makes you FEEL during the shoot. You can tell she truly cares and wants to understand your goals for the shoot, what matters to you, all the while making the experience really fun, and not awkward (even for my teenage son). We never felt rushed, she provided excellent tips on posing, discovered fun new pockets of Central Park, and overall I just felt like I was in great hands throughout the shoot. I could not recommend her more, she is a true professional and I love every single photo! She also shared great local restaurant tips after the shoot. Thank you, Kari!”

Jon Bon Jovi’s Son Jesse Marries Girlfriend Jesse Light at Same Las Vegas Chapel as Parents: Report
Jon Bon Jovi ’s son Jesse Bongiovi has seemingly married longtime girlfriend Jesse Light .
Bongiovi, 29, and Light, 30, obtained a marriage license in Clark County, Nevada on Tuesday, May 7, Us Weekly can confirm. The couple tied the knot at the same Las Vegas chapel where Bongiovi’s parents, Jon and Dorothea Hurley , eloped in 1989, People reported the following day.
Light, who is an executive producer on reality TV shows including Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise and Southern Hospitality , previously shared photos from her Bachelorette Party.
“Can I hear a little commotion for the dress?” she captioned April Instagram snaps of herself posing and dancing on a table in a little white bedazzled dress and sheer veil.

Bongiovi and Light announced their engagement in August 2022.
“⚠️Time to BeReal⚠️,” Bongiovi jokingly wrote via Instagram at the time alongside photos of the pair kissing during the proposal. He set the scene with bouquets, flower petals and candles at the outdoor locale.
Bongiovi, who cofounded the wine company Hampton Water with his dad, previously showed his support for one of Light’s career wins. In a January Instagram photo dump he included a snap of himself wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with Light’s appearance on Forbes’ 30 under 30 list.
The twosome’s wedding comes ahead of Jesse’s brother Jake Bongiovi ’s nuptials to fiancée Millie Bobby Brown . Jake, who turned 22 on Tuesday, and Brown, 20, announced their engagement in August 2023.
“I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, I want ’em all,” Brown captioned an Instagram photo of her diamond engagement ring at the time, quoting Taylor Swift ’s song “Lover.”

Jon, 62, who shares Jesse, Jake, daughter Stephanie, 30, and son Romeo, 20, with Dorothea, 61, was asked whether he thought Jake was too young to get engaged during a May 2023 appearance on Andy Cohen ’s Sirius XM Show.
“I don’t know if age matters , you know, if you find the right partner and you grow together,” the musician answered. “I think that all my kids have found the people that they think they can grow together with and we like them all.”
Jon and Hurley know a thing about young love, as they are high school sweethearts. The Bon Jovi frontman has recently been candid about the mistakes he’s made in his marriage.
“I got away with murder. I’m a rock and roll star, I’m not a saint,” Jon recalled during an April 2024 interview with ABC News. “You know, I’m not saying that there weren’t 100 girls in my life – I’m Jon Bon Jovi. It was pretty good.”

“There is no doubt in my mind that this world revolves because of her,” he said. “Because of what she did to keep the kids right, what she does to keep me right, what we do together to keep it right. No doubt about it.”
Later that month, Jon cited “mutual admiration” as the secret to his lasting marriage.
“You wake up in the morning excited to be with each other,” he said. “And you admire each other. And you respect each other. It’s a pleasure to do. It’s a pleasure to be.”

Nationwide has been around close to 100 years after being founded in 1926. The Ohio-based company has many different products in the insurance and finance space, including coverage for trips. Nationwide Travel Insurance policies are available for single or multiple trips and can cover cruise trips too.
- Trip cancellation coverage of up to 100% of trip costs (for cruises) or up to $30,000 (for single-trip plans)

Nationwide Travel Insurance offers many of the standard benefits you might see with a travel insurance policy. This can include things like trip cancellation coverage, so you can recover pre-paid costs or trip interruption in the event your vacation is interrupted by an unexpected event. There's also baggage delay coverage and medical coverage.
- Cancel for any reason coverage available
Nationwide is one of the leading names in insurance across various areas of coverage including life, auto, and travel insurance. Nationwide's coverage is also as comprehensive as it is varied. It tops our list of the best travel insurance companies and best cruise travel insurance , also ranking among the best cheap travel insurance companies for the value it provides.
With single trip, multi trip, and cruise-specific policies along with an abundance of riders, there's a good chance Nationwide will have the coverage you're looking for.
That said, Nationwide lacks some of the niche coverage that other companies can provide. For example, Nationwide doesn't insure trips over 31-days long. Its annual travel insurance only applies to trips 30 days or under. Additionally, Nationwide lacks specific adventure sports coverage.
Ultimately, Nationwide is the company to beat. If you're shopping for something a little more specific, use Nationwide's quotes as your baseline as you search for something more tailored to your trip.
Coverage Options from Nationwide
Nationwide offers many of the standard benefits you might see with a travel insurance policy. This can include things like trip cancellation coverage, so you can recover pre-paid costs or trip interruption in the event your vacation is interrupted by an unexpected event. There's also baggage delay coverage and medical coverage.
The travel insurance policies offered by Nationwide are available to consumers and are divided up by the type of trip: single trip, multiple trips, or cruise coverage.
Single-trip travel insurance policies
Nationwide offers two single-trip travel insurance policies: the Essential plan and the Prime plan.
As the name suggests, Nationwide Essential travel insurance covers the basics. It offers some protection should anything happen ahead of your trip or while you're on your trip.
The Prime plan takes your coverage to the next level, with higher coverage limits and the option to add on the coveted cancel for any reason (CFAR) coverage at an extra cost.
Both plans include trip cancellation or interruption coverage in the event of terrorism in your destination city, travel assistance from Nationwide at no additional charge, and refunds with a 10-day review period (except in Washington and New York). Note that for baggage and personal effects coverage, there is a $500 combined maximum limit for valuable items (see your policy's terms and conditions for details on what's considered valuable). It also covers damaged or lost sports equipment.
Here's how the two plans stack up in terms of coverage limits. For trip delay coverage, you'll be eligible for reimbursement for delays of six hours or more.
Annual and multi-trip travel insurance policies
If you're looking for travel insurance coverage for more than one trip and want to cover your partner and children, the Travel Pro Plan may be an affordable option. It's important to note that this policy only covers events after departure, not pre-departure events. This policy could be as low as $59 as of the time of writing.
The Travel Plus Plan is another multi-trip policy from Nationwide that has flexible term limits for trip interruption and cancellation coverage, up to $10,000. This covers the gaps from the Travel Pro Plan, which only covers post-departure events. So if you needed to cancel the trip due to a covered illness or other reason, this is the plan for you.
If you want to increase the level of benefits for your after departure coverage, the Travel Pro Deluxe Plan does just that. It builds on the Travel Pro Plan, hence the name, and includes higher coverage limits for just $20 more.
All plans include the same travel assistance from Nationwide that's included with the single-trip policies. Here's how the multiple-trip plans compare:
Cruise coverage
Nationwide offers three cruise travel insurance plans.
If you're going on a short cruise or going for the first time, the Universal Cruise Plan may be a good starting point if you want added protection and to recoup nonrefundable costs. Just make sure that you qualify based on your state, as cruise coverage isn't available in all states.
If you're going on a longer cruise and want added coverage to protect your trip, the Choice Cruise plan is an option to consider. And if you're looking for the most benefits and go on many cruises, the Luxury Cruise plan offers the most coverage options.
All three policies can be refunded with a 10-day review period, except in Washington and New York.
Here's a comparison of the coverage you'll get with Nationwide's three different cruise travel insurance policies:
Additional coverage options from Nationwide
Nationwide has a number of additional coverage options that can add more protection to your policy but also add to the cost as well. These include:
- Financial default coverage , in the event your travel supplier ends up in default or bankruptcy. This is available with the Essential and Prime single-trip policies.
- Pre-existing condition waiver, which may offer coverage for pre-existing illnesses or diseases if certain conditions are met. This is available with the Essential and Prime single-trip policies.
- Accidental death and dismemberment, which can have limits of $5,000, $10,000, $25,000 or $50,000 depending on the plan. This is available with the Essential and Prime single-trip policies.
- Accidental death for flights only, which can have limits of $100,000, $250,000, or $500,000. This is available with the Essential and Prime single-trip policies.
- Rental car collision or loss coverage, in the event something happens to your rental car, you can add on this coverage for up to $25,000 or $35,000 depending on the plan. This is available with the Essential and Prime single-trip policies (except in Texas or New York).
- Cancel for any reason (CFAR) , which must be added to a policy and is available through the single-trip Prime Plan, the Choice Cruise Plan, and the Luxury Cruise Plan.
Nationwide Travel Insurance Cost
The premium you pay will depend on various factors, including the age of the travelers, destination, and total trip costs. The average cost of travel insurance is 4% to 8% of your travel costs.
After inputting some personal information, such as your age and state of residence, along with your trip details, like travel dates, destination, and trip costs, you'll get an instant quote for Nationwide Insurance plans available for your trip. And from there, it's easy to compare each option based on your coverage needs and budget.
Now let's look at a few examples to estimate Nationwide coverage costs.
As of 2024, a 23-year-old from Illinois taking a week-long, $3,000 budget trip to Italy would have the following travel insurance quotes:
- Essential: $89.55
- Prime: $129.19
Premiums for Nationwide Insurance plans are between 3% and 4.3% of the trip's cost, well within the average cost of travel insurance.
Nationwide insurance provides the following quotes for a 30-year-old traveler from California heading to Japan for two weeks on a $4,000 trip:
- Essential: $113.01

- Essential: $571.62

- Essential: $248.56
- Prime: $352.44
Premiums for Nationwide plans are between 4.1% and 5.9%, which is well the average cost for travel insurance. While its certainly more expensive than coverage for younger travelers, it's on the lower end of what travel insurance companies tend to quote for older travelers.

Nationwide refrains from promising a specific response time frame. However, customers have reported waiting several weeks before hearing any updates.
Since Nationwide offers such a wide breadth of insurance types, it's difficult to separate its travel-specific customer reviews from reviews on its other products. It received an average of 1.16 stars out of five across over 340 reviews on its BBB page, though most customers are writing about experiences with Nationwide's auto and health insurance.
On SquareMouth, a travel insurance-specific aggregator, Nationwide has an average of 4.01 stars across 570 reviews. Reviewers reported unresponsive a claims team and long wait times. Additionally, while insurance companies often engage directly with customer reviews on SquareMouth, Nationwide doesn't respond to customer reviews.

Nationwide Travel Insurance vs. Allianz Travel Insurance
Much like Nationwide, Allianz Travel Insurance insurance offers many different types of insurance coverage. While the company may be most well known for auto insurance, it offers travel insurance as well and has eight options. Allianz Travel Insurance, a major player in the travel insurance space, has 10 options listed.
Allianz Travel Insurance may offer higher coverage limits for the policies offered and have a streamlined process for filing a claim online. Where Nationwide wins out is the fact that you can add cancel for any reason (CFAR) for an added cost, whereas CFAR coverage isn't available when purchasing an online policy via Allianz Travel Insurance.

Nationwide Travel Insurance vs. John Hancock Travel Insurance
John Hancock Travel Insurance is similar to Nationwide in that it provides a wide range of insurance offerings and financial services. One of those offerings is travel insurance. John Hancock travel insurance offers travel insurance through Bronze, Silver, and Gold policies.
When comparing policies, the budget option may be slightly more affordable with Nationwide. However, mid-tier and higher coverage options may be more affordable with John Hancock travel insurance. It depends on your policy, trip details, and age. One good thing is that you can add cancel for any reason (CFAR) coverage under all John Hancock travel insurance plan options.

Nationwide vs. credit card travel coverage
Rewards credit cards come chock full of benefits for cardholders, some of which they might be unaware of. One such perk can be travel interruption or cancellation coverage as well as rental car coverage. Credit cards may have sufficient coverage for quick trips. However, if you want the peace of mind of having solid medical coverage or higher limits, going the traditional travel insurance route may be a better fit.
For frequent travelers, credit card travel protection may be appealing as the coverage is constant. If you're looking for a comparable travel insurance plan with more comprehensive coverage, some companies offer annual travel insurance.
You can find our guide on the best credit cards with travel insurance here.

Samuelsson and Montreal’s Marcus Restaurant + Terrace.
To some, Atlanta is the urban music center of the world. To others, it’s the Hollywood of the South. To chef Marcus Samuelsson , the Dixie metropolis is a vibrant culinary hotbed that was missing his personal stamp.
“I think it’s important to respect each city,” says Samuelsson, who opened Atlanta’s Marcus Bar & Grille , in March 2023. “Otherwise, don’t mess with it. Atlanta has its own cuisine, its own history. It’s the biggest city [in the South] and such a connecting city, particularly for people of color in terms of the incredible universities and all it does in terms of culture.”
The Ethiopia-born, Sweden-bred talent now has successful restaurants all over the globe, stretching from Harlem to Eastern Africa. “When we decide to go somewhere, my ‘why’ is very different than other people’s ‘why,’” Samuelsson says. “But I know, as a person of color again, that I have a responsibility, and I take that with me.”
The best-selling author, TV personality and James Beard-winning toque is taking his love of cooking to Upstate New York’s Catskill Cuisine from May 10 to 12. There, he’ll be paired alongside longtime friend and chef Scott Conant for a memorable multi-course experience. In the following chat, Samuelsson tells us about their bond, the common thread between his eateries and the vital role music plays in it all.
The Bahamas is a favored vacation getaway for Samuelsson's family.

Where in the world are you?
How’s New York treating you today?
Always good, man. In New York, you gotta go get it. Gotta make your own shot.
I was on your Instagram recently and saw you and the family were on the water near a beach. Where were you?
A couple of days ago, we were in Sag Harbor [on Long Island]. But two weeks ago, we were on a cruise. I was cooking on a cruise, so I took the whole family to the Caribbean.
Did you have a good time when you weren’t working?
That’s one of the fun things with the kids. They come with me to so many of these events. My son has been to so many different countries, and he always makes some type of memory, food-wise or experience-wise. I think his favorite [destination] is the Bahamas . We go down there or Jamaica a lot. I would say those two.
How are you doing with the whole “work hard, play hard” balancing act?
I love working. I really enjoy the craftsmanship, dealing with my team, the creative challenges and the financial challenges. I like the challenges, what it means to be in business and the opportunities. It’s literally what we make out of it. Let’s go at it. I enjoy that process. But the minute I’m on my way home, it has to go away. With a two-year-old and seven-year-old, it gives you no option. You got to be all in there. But that’s fun, too. [My son] Zion likes swimming and biking and I got to keep up with him on that. And every time I think I’ve figured it out, he’s [moved on to something else]. I taught him swimming a couple of years ago. Now he wants to do butterfly. I don’t know how to do that. There’s always an itch that keeps you on your toes.
Prepping for a good time at Catskill Cuisine.
What drew you to Catskill Cuisine?
It’s Upstate. You forget sometimes as a New Yorker how stunning and how beautiful it is just a couple of hours north. [Nearby] Woodstock is such a historical place. We think about it, of course, from a music scene but also from a food [perspective]. When you drive just an hour or two north of New York, it’s the Hudson Valley. It’s just stunning. I grew up with a lot of forests and foraging. I’m always reminded [that a similar setting is] just two hours away, particularly where we do our [Catskill Cuisine] demos. It’s right where the Woodstock music festival happened 50, 56 years ago. This is an incredible place. And for us to cook there, engage there [is amazing].
Also my friends like Scott Conant are there. We’ve been buddies forever. Anne Burrell, Melba Wilson and Andrew Zimmern [will be there as well]. And we’re doing it with Resorts World, who’s such a great host. There are so many reasons why it’s such a special place. It’s okay to be a tourist in your own state.
You mentioned Scott Conant. What makes him such a special chef?
Scott is like a brother to me. We came up in New York at the same time. He had incredible restaurants there at a very early age: L’Impero, Scarpetta, just to mention a few. To see him evolve and become such an incredible American chef [is great]. We were two young bucks coming up in the city with all the ups and downs that happen. To be here 25 years later, to share the stage [is incredible]. That’s probably what I share with all of these guys—[Geoffrey] Zakarian, Anne, Melba. Melba is a big reason why I’m in Harlem. I think it’s the work ethic, the camaraderie and all the ups and downs. Think about it. We were in food when 9/11 happened. We were in food when the financial crisis of 2008 happened. We had to navigate through the pandemic. There’s a lot that has culturally happened. We’re still here and I think we celebrate that. When we see each other, sometimes we don’t even say anything — we just laugh — because I know what we’ve been through.
You’ve brought up music a few times. If you could put together your dream concert, give me three or four acts, alive or dead, who’d be at your show?
Oh, that’s easy. I would have Prince close it. Michael Jackson would be in there. David Bowie will be in there. And oh wow, just the voice of Whitney Houston. I can hear that forever. And throw in some Gap Band.
Oh, so the late ’70s and ’80s are your wheelhouse?
No, I love music. I just love music in general. There’s not really an era that I like more. I like the creativity. I’m even so impressed with Beyoncé’s country album. The homework she did, just the reference points and everything. The music isn’t just incredible; it’s the past, present and future.
I’ve always gone to musicians for inspiration since I was a child. It could be Bob Marley or whatever. I feel like, food-wise, I’m in my own head. I don’t want to look at other people that much [for ideas]. Music has been the outlet.
Be it the music, the look or the feel, tell me the things that connect all of your restaurants.
I would say the love of people because I think about the customers, what we want to say and how we want to share [the experience] with the customers. Also, the staff that are part of the restaurant make it special. And then the vendors, which you guys, the customers, don’t normally see. The vendors are a huge part of the community. Those three areas, for me, are special. I have respect and love for all three. Without the vendors, we can’t cook.
And then, being able to tell a story [is important]. At [New York City’s] Hav & Mar , we can talk about female leadership, and we have Derrick Adams doing his thing with the art program.
Metropolis sits on the land where 9/11 happened. That’s a very special place to me. It tells a story about New York City.
Red Rooster is the epicenter for Black comfort food, where families come together. And on Sundays, I want to listen to gospel or jazz there.
And [New Jersey’s] Marcus is just all about comfort with a twist. It’s in the neighborhood. It’s of the neighborhood. And it’s familiar. It’s very familiar.
What does the rest of 2024 look like for you?
All I know is that in May I got my hands full. With the food festival in Catskill, that’s going to be fun. It’s really about just watching the team grow. And not just my team, but the individuals that I know who have personal goals and watching them grow. I take a lot of pride in that. We have a couple more fun projects coming up that I can’t speak on yet, but ’24 and ’25 are going to be fun. Gonna keep it creative and keep it delicious.
