Superstar announces exclusive limited engagement arena tour

Music icon Barry Manilow has announced dates for a special seven show arena tour called Manilow: Hits 2023. Presented by World of Westgate, the exclusive run kicks off on January 13th in Sunrise, FL stopping in Tampa, Savannah, Orlando, Atlanta and Nashville before before wrapping January 21st in Charlotte.

The tour will highlight the superstar’s greatest hits. Manilow, a Grammy, Tony, and Emmy Award-winning music icon and whose success is a benchmark in popular music, will perform an array of his hit songs, including “Mandy,” “I Write the Songs,” “Looks Like We Made It,” “Can’t Smile Without You,” and “Copacabana (At the Copa).”

“We are going to kick off 2023 having fun. I can’t wait to see everyone!” states Manilow.

Presales are underway now with the general on sale set for Friday, November 18th at 10 am local time via Ticketmaster .

Manilow continues his Westgate Las Vegas residency with dates scheduled through December 2023. Manilow turns the show into A Very Barry Christmas between December 1st and December 10th.

Manilow: Las Vegas – The Hits Come Home! launched in 2018 at the International Theater stage at Westgate Las Vegas. The spectacular show is unlike anything Manilow has ever done with massive video walls, sets, and special effects – a non-stop evening of Manilow’s impressive catalog of Top 40 Hits. He has been named a “Best of Las Vegas” Best Resident Performer/Headliner by the Las Vegas Review Journal and was among the first inductees in the inaugural Las Vegas Magazine Hall of Fame. With the addition of 105 show dates into 2023, Barry Manilow firmly establishes his place as one of the greatest entertainers of all time, surpassing the record number of performances on the International Theater stage previously held by the one and only Elvis Presley.

Barry Manilow is returning to Radio City Music Hall this summer.

Manilow will hit the live stage for five nights in a row from May 31-June 4 .

The concerts will mark the singer’s 39th lifetime performances at Radio City and first since 2012.

At 79 years old, Manilow remains one of the most prolific performers in contemporary pop music. The timeless singer has dominated the airwaves with his massive hits during the ‘70s and ‘80s continues to perform all over the world and sell out major arenas. Since emerging in the mid-'70s, Manilow has dropped over 50 chart-performing singles, 13 of which reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Some of his most magical hits include “Looks Like We Made It,” “I Write the Songs,” “Could it Be Magic,” “Can’t Smile Without You,” and “Copacabana (At the Copa).”

Manilow released his self-titled debut album in 1973. The record comes after Manilow spent the later part of the ‘60s writing jingles for major brands and TV commercials. He also served as a producer for Bette Midler’s debut and sophomore album. In 1973, Manilow’s debut album made an immediate breakthrough into the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at number 28. The album, which spawned the hit “Could It Be Magic,” sold over 500,000 copies, earning gold status in the U.S.

The following year, Manilow released the massive hit single “Mandy.” The song, a cover of the original hit “Brandy” by Scott English, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and two other Billboard charts. Besides the U.S., the gold-certified single also dominated the charts in three other countries and entered the top 20 of five others. The single brought Manilow’s sophomore album, Barry Manilow II, commercial success. The album soared to number 9 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified platinum in 2020 after selling over one million copies. For the rest of the ‘70s, Manilow dropped several more platinum-selling records, including Tryin’ To Get the Feeling, This One’s For You, Even Now, and One Voice. All these albums entered the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and spawned several iconic hits, including “I Write the Songs,” “Looks Like We Made It,” and “Can’t Smile Without You.”

Over two next decades, Manilow continued to drop several highly-acclaimed albums. Some of his more notable releases include his 1998 cover album, Manilow Sings Sinatra, and The Greatest Songs of the Fifties, released in 2006. The record featured several popular songs during Manilow’s youth, such as “Unchained Melody,” “Moments to Remember,” and “It’s Not For Me to Say.” Moreover, the album topped the Billboard 200 and later sold over one million copies in the U.S.

Manilow’s exemplary works have earned him multiple accolades, including two Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, a Special Tony Award, and two American Music Awards. In 2003, he received the Society of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award. Furthermore, Manilow has been inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and earned a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2009, Manilow’s early works as a jingle writer were commemorated with an Honorary Clio Award.

Walter Suggs of Phillip O Berry Academy of Technology High School Set for Backstage Award Presentation by  Barry Manilow  

January 4, 2023 (Charlotte, NC)  - Music icon Barry Manilow announced today Walter Suggs of Phillip O Berry Academy of Technology High School has won The Manilow Music Project Music Teacher Award in Charlotte.    

The Grammy Award winner previously announced a one-night-only concert set for Saturday, January 21st, at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center.    

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board and Spectrum Center participated in the contest by suggesting schools and teachers in their area that they want to be considered for this award. In each city, the winning teacher will receive 5k cash award and another 5K in “Manilow bucks” presented by Barry Manilow to purchase musical instruments for their school’s music program. The winner will also receive VIP tickets to the concert. Walter Suggs of Phillip O Berry Academy of Technology High School will meet Manilow at the show on January 21st for the award presentation. 

“It is wonderful to partner with our concert venues to identify schools and music teachers in their neighborhoods that deserve this small token of my gratitude, said Manilow. “Many school music programs have either been terminated, or their funds have been severely depleted. I always want to do my part through The Manilow Music Project to keep music in schools.”   

 The Manilow Music Project has given away over ten million dollars’ worth of funds and music instrument donations.

Barry Manilow sets performance record at New York’s Radio City Music Hall

By now, most people know that Billy Joel has played the most performances at New York’s Madison Square Garden. But a new record has just been set at another iconic New York venue: Radio City Music Hall.

On Saturday, April 20, Barry Manilow notched the record for the most lifetime concert performances at Radio City: 42. During the show, Barry was presented with a plaque commemorating the achievement by the Radio City Rockettes.

Manilow’s ongoing residency at Radio City started in May 2023 with five sold-out shows; he just wrapped up five more, which ran from April 17 to April 21. He’ll be back in October to do an additional five shows, after which he’ll have done 48 performances at Radio City.

“Radio City Music Hall is one of the greatest venues in the world,” Barry said in a statement. “What a thrill and an honor to receive this distinction.”

Barry returns to Las Vegas in May to resume his residency show at the Westgate Resort & Casino. He’ll then start a long run of shows in London, billed as his final ones in that city. He also has various U.S. arena dates scheduled throughout the summer.

Rick Astley took to the stage at the new 23,500-capacity Co-op Live arena, which opens officially on Tuesday, to perform to 11,000 arena workers, VIPs and press at a free test event.

However, it is thought as many as 4,000 tickets were cancelled, some just one hour before the show, leaving people “fuming”.

One gig-goer, Byron Edwards, posted on X: “Invitational tickets to the test event tonight cancelled just 90 minutes before doors open. What kind of shit show is this?”

Alison Stafford-Bentley said: “Thanks for cancelling tickets for tonight less than an hour before event is due to start. Absolutely fuming.”

Other teething problems included long queues for food, rows of seats not being ready and problems moving the crowds around the venue.

A Co-op Live spokesperson said: “We’re busy putting the finishing touches on Co-op Live, and we are looking forward to Co-op Live becoming the pre-eminent arena in the UK upon opening.

“As a part of the opening process, we are in the midst of an extensive protocol of testing critical procedures. To enable us to test the spaces effectively, we have made the difficult decision to reduce overall capacity for today’s test event. We apologise to affected guests and look forward to welcoming them to the Black Keys.”

Sited on the Etihad Campus next to the Manchester City football ground, the £365m venue will officially open on Tuesday with two shows by the comedian Peter Kay, for which there are still tickets available.

Take That, the Killers, Eric Clapton, Barry Manilow and Olivia Rodrigo are all due to perform in the coming weeks, with plans to hold the MTV Europe music awards there in November.

Construction began in 2021 on the new venue, which is financed by the City Football Group – owned by the billionaire Emirati royal Sheikh Mansour – and the US sports and commercial real estate giant Oak View Group.

Harry Styles, who grew up 30 miles away, has a minor stake and advised on aspects of the design, which features four stacked black boxes with a similarly black interior.

The arena was welcomed by Manchester council, its leader, Bev Craig, saying the venue would “deliver a huge boost for our local economy and result in significant commercial and wider benefits for the city”.

However, questions were raised over whether there was a need for another large-scale music venue just two miles from the 21,000-capacity Manchester AO arena.

The two venues came to blows during the planning process, when the AO arena objected numerous times to Co-op Live proposals, including to what it described as a “simply unlawful” licensing application that would allow the new arena to serve alcohol until 2am at weekends and 24/7 on 25 occasions every year.

Co-op Live’s lawyers argued it was a “ludicrous and disingenuous” objection, at the meeting at Manchester town hall in February.

Co-op Live also faced criticism from the Music Venue Trust (MVT) for its potential impact on live music in Manchester. The venue had previously “declined” to sign up to a £1-per-ticket levy that funds the MVT’s “pipeline investment fund” for grassroots venues.

The MVT recently warned of the crisis facing grassroots music and arts venues, telling the Guardian “the whole ecosystem is collapsing” .

Radiators fail once more: Moscow suburbs residents appeal to Putin

R esidents across the Moscow suburbs are besieged by a heating problem, for which they plead direct intervention from President Vladimir Putin. These individuals have yet to experience any semblance of home heating since winter started due to a dwindling supply of heating oil. The issue, one largely avoided by local authority communication, has left residents desperate to the point of directly appealing to the president.

While plots have been uncovered to disrupt Ukraine's infrastructure for a second consecutive winter, thus depriving civilians of heating, it seems Russians are now mired in their crisis. Irony drips from the fact that those under Putin's leadership are looking to cause turmoil in Ukraine, yet at home, they face a similar predicament.

Many dwellings within the Moscow agglomeration are presently without heat. The capital's residents are desperate, directly appealing to President Putin due to a perceived lack of alternate avenues for assistance. The absence of suitable heating functionality since winter commenced pushes them towards desperation with no relief in sight.

This seems improbable, but in Russia, it appears that anything can happen.

It remains uncertain if Vladimir Putin is actively addressing the heating crisis. Some experts suggest that Russia's heating oil reserves are depleting, which negatively affects residents' quality of life. Plagued by cold radiators and plummeting winter temperatures, these citizens have directly addressed their pleas to their head of state.

This heating crisis is happening in Elektrostal, a town approximately 71 miles from Moscow.

Ironically, Russia has constantly aimed to destroy the Ukrainian infrastructure since war broke out, deliberately trying to leave Ukrainians without heating during the harsh winters, aiming to break their strong will. It's an irony they now struggle with a domestic heating crisis, particularly near Moscow, their largest and most pivotal city.

Desperate individuals are reaching out to Vladimir Putin. They question his knowledge of the heating infrastructure conditions in the Moscow suburbs and the dire situations residents face there. Sundown brings no relief from the harsh Russian winter and without heating, their houses turn cold. With elections nearing, more and more residents find themselves reaching out directly to their president.

"Since winter's start, we've been without heating. This has been a yearly occurrence for the past three years. Despite paying for heating, we don't have enough. We implore you, help us!" - these are the desperate pleas from the heavily dressed populace dealing with the Russian winter conditions.

Experts attribute the heating oil shortage to international sanctions and surging demands for diesel fuel, pivotal to military operations. Russia now grapples with a dearth of raw materials essential for boiler and heating plant operation. As supplies dwindle, houses grow cold with little hope of any immediate corrective intervention.

It would be adequate if the war ceased, residents were prioritized, and attention accorded to their welfare.

“ Billy Joel : The 100th — Live at Madison Square Garden” reached 5.7 million viewers on Sunday night.

Calculated from Nielsen’s measurement of linear viewers on CBS and live streaming via Paramount+ , this makes the Joel concert the fourth-most-watched special of 2024, ranking only behind the Oscars ( 19.5 million viewers on ABC ), the Grammys ( 16.9 million viewers on CBS ) and the Golden Globes ( 9.4 million viewers on CBS ). It outpaced shows like the Emmys, which Fox aired to 4.3 million viewers in January.

High engagement was already clear before numbers came in for “The 100th,” evidenced by the fan outrage that sparked across social media after the telecast was accidentally cut off two minutes early in the Eastern and Central time zones, interrupting Joel as he sang “Piano Man.”

“We apologize to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song,” CBS said in a statement the next morning, also promising a second broadcast “due to the overwhelming demand from his legion of fans.”

The encore will air on April 19 at 9 p.m. The special is also streaming on Paramount+.
