Wanderlands Bali - 8 Days

I really enjoyed my time on this tour! I got to visit amazing places and participate in different activities in Canggu, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida, and Ubud. It was also great getting to know the other travellers in the group and bonding with them. Tim did an excellent job as a tour leader and I learned a lot about Bali from him. I will never forget this trip, even when I reach a hundred years old. I highly recommend Wanderlands Travel!

Classic Bali & Lombok Tour

Classic Bali & Lombok

The trip was wonderful and in a special way, where you felt welcomed and comfortable immediately. Everything was mapped out for us in a structured way. The destinations were more than clear in the itinerary printed out and given to us on the first meeting. A note to mention here is the tour guide Andri. His presence at all times made this trip the best experience I could possibly ask for.

7 Days Bali and Gili Islands Epic Experience

Such an amazing holiday. Kadek, Yustus and Tress were all such amazing guides and took us around to a range of places to see and experience many different aspects of Bali/Gili. They were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Would have been better if we stayed overnight in Canggu or ubud to save so much driving back and forth from Kuta though :)

7 Day Island Hopper Learn to Surf Adventure Tour

7 Day Island Hopper Learn to Surf Adventure

I would fully recommend the 6-day island hopper surf tour organised by Mojosurf. It is a great way to get to see different places in Indonesia, and experience different types of waves. Particularly Lombok is an amazing surf location with stunning accommodation. The camp is well suited for beginners as well as intermediates. I have done a couple of surfcamps before, so I was no longer a beginner surfer, but all teachers helped me to take my surf to the next level riding these perfect green waves. Our tourguide Kajsa was great as well, she has a real good knowledge of all the locations. Besides that she gives great tips on how to improve the surf, she also has all the great recommendations on where to get the best massages, or just where to get the functional things along the tour. This tour is great for solo-travellers. I travelled to Indonesia by myself and met really great people during this tour. In the typical package you have shared accommodation in the most beautiful locations, and you have all the meals together (which is btw delicious too). All together, an amazing surf experience which I would definitely recommend!

Reviews of small group tours to bali.

Initially a little sceptical about a tour as it was my first one abroad. However!!!! I‘m in love with Bali and its people. Stacia was the best guide. Very knowledgeable and always there to answer our questions. Sad that my trip is ending. 10/10 reccommend♥️
The itinerary was amazing. We did so much in 10 days, getting the full Bali experience from Indonesian cooking to island hopping. We met new people & experienced new things everyday, literally ticking off our bucket list. Our tour guides Ali & Rio where very efficient, helpful and great fun they did everything they could to make us comfortable while ensuring we had a great time. Having everything pre-organised for us made everything run so smoothly and the guys gave us great suggestions for our free time. The accommodation was all extremely clean and modern just as described. This tour has been a once in a lifetime trip, it exceeded our expectations and we return home with amazing new memories & new friends. Highly recommend this trip for anyone wanting to experience all Bali has to offer. Thank you !
I really enjoyed this tour, it was the first time I had travelled through any tour company and I thought it was extremely well run. Our tour guide Hendri was incredible, he made us laugh, encouraged us to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones and was available to help day or night. Hendri went out of his way to make sure that we all had the best time and always felt safe while travelling. We had one particularly difficult group member, but Hendri dealt with this without a sweat. He happily got up during the night to come to this persons aid and even swapped rooms with them because they weren’t happy. Our group became really close during our trip and I believe that is a testament to Hendri’s welcoming and light hearted nature and his ability to provide fun and engaging activities for all the group to join in on. After my experience on the intro travel to Bali tour I will definitely be looking to book another tour through intro again!

Bali Tours & Vacations

Tourists with their guide at a temple in Bali

There are 17,000 islands in the Indonesian archipelago, but none shine brighter than Bali.

See the green slopes of Mt Batur to the Bintang bodegas on Seminyak’s main party strip. Bali is a volcano-dotted, beach-fringed paradise that’s serene and sensational by turns. Beyond the mega-resorts and yoga studios, you'll find the essence of Bali, the temples, out-of-the-way mountain towns, local markets and lazy fishing villages. Our Bali tours have something for everyone. Dive the impossibly blue waters off Lovina. Be welcomed into a Balinese family home. Soak in the Banja hot springs or sip smoothies in Ubud’s cafes . As always, when it comes to paradise, the hardest bit is choosing what to do first.

Learn more about Bali

Local culture.

Between the 12th and 20th centuries, Bali has often been treated as a pawn in the games of kings, rajahs and generals. More often than not, its fate has been closely tied to neighboring Lombok with fierce battles between the two islands over the centuries as different rulers vied for regional dominance. This history of varied occupation can be seen in Bali today, with elements of Hinduism and Islam present in modern Balinese society. However, there is no historical animosity between the religions, or even between the islands of Lombok and Bali.

One of the defining moments in Bali’s history took place in the 16th century when the collapse of the Majapahit dynasty encouraged the spread of Islam from the surrounding states into the Javanese kingdom. Rather than live under Islamic rule, many Hindu elites chose to escape to Bali. These elites included many artists, dancers, musicians, actors and court-supported artisans, as well as some more artistically inclined priests. The result was an intense proliferation of cultural arts across Bali, no doubt inspired by rich Balinese folklore featuring epic battles of good and evil, gods and mortals. This reputation persists today, with many travelers falling in love with the island’s intricate temple carvings, dance performances, colorful sarongs and handicrafts.

When you combine a love of arts with world-class beaches and deliciously fiery sambals, it’s no surprise Bali’s tourism industry is soaring. It’s not unusual for someone to ask you whether this is your second, third or fourth visit to the island. Many locals rely on tourism to some extent, either by working as tour operators or running hotels, yoga studios, massage parlors, bars, cafes or restaurants.

The destination’s popularity with  Australians  means there’s a gradual cultural creep in larger cities like Seminyak, where Melbourne-style cafes and international clothing labels are particularly popular. If you escape the resorts and head further north from Denpasar, you’re more likely to encounter traditional warungs (eateries) and villages untouched by tourism sprawl.

One last word of advice: always watch where you put your feet. Locals will traditionally place small offerings on the footpaths outside their homes or businesses up to three times a day. 83.5% of the population identifies as Hindu and religion plays a large part in Balinese life. In fact, there is a small religious ceremony associated with just about every aspect of Balinese culture, whether it’s the beginning of a soccer game, celebrating the full moon or cleaning the house.

Food and drink

At first glance it might seem difficult to pinpoint Bali’s exact culinary identity. The mishmash of Indonesian and pan-Asian influences means you’re likely to come across menus that sometimes feel part Thai, Malaysian, Indian and Vietnamese. But no matter what you order, the food will always be fresh and bursting with flavor. Dishes are typically made fresh each day, with curries and pastes prepared by hand using traditional methods.

The most authentic food in Bali is usually found streetside at eateries called warungs. Warungs are common in every village and city, and a good place for a quick feed on a budget. Many will specialize in a small menu of popular local dishes.

Top foods to try in Bali

Babi guling:  This is slow cooking Balinese-style. A whole pig is stuffed with chilli, turmeric, ginger, galangal, shallots, garlic, coriander seeds and aromatic leaves and rotated over an open fire. This dish is commonly seen at celebrations.

Satay:  Sometimes spelt ‘sate’ on local menus, Indonesia is famous for its tasty meat skewers (usually chicken) cooked over hot coals and slathered in moreish peanut sauce.

Nasi campur:  Nasi campur feels like a bit of a buffet. Your plate typically comes with a scoop of nasi putih accompanied by small portions of a number of other dishes, including meats, vegetables, peanuts, eggs, and fried-shrimp krupuk.

Nasi goreng:  The old favorite among tertiary students is nothing like the local version. Nasi goreng, literally meaning "fried rice”, is a popular rice dish with pieces of meat and vegetables, and a fried egg added on top.

Sambal:  A fiery paste made using a chili base smashed with secondary ingredients like shrimp paste, fish sauce, garlic, ginger, shallot, scallion, palm sugar, lime juice, and rice vinegar.

Learn more about some of the dishes to try in Bali

Eating vegetarian in Bali

Going vegetarian is relatively easy in Bali as many dishes are already meat-free. Tofu and tempeh are also a standard part of the local diet. Key vegetarian dishes to look out for include nasi saur (rice flavored with toasted coconut and accompanied by tofu, tempeh, vegetables and sometimes egg), urap (steamed vegetables mixed with grated coconut and spices), gado gado (tofu and tempeh mixed with steamed vegetables, boiled egg and peanut sauce) and sayur hijau (leafy green vegetables, usually kangkung – water spinach – flavored with a tomato-chilli sauce).

The abundance of fresh fruits in Bali means you can buy fresh coconuts and juices (or fruity cocktails) almost anywhere you go. If you're looking for something with a bit more punch then you could order a Bintang, the national larger or maybe arak – a local liquor made from fermented rice and coconut palm flowers.

Festivals and events

Many festivals in the Balinese calendar revolve around religious and spiritual occasions marked by periods of prayer or silence, and followed by lots of festivities and feasting. Some festivals might be inconvenient for travelers, such as the Day of Silence, but they’re also a great opportunity to gain an insight into local life that many don’t get to see.

Multiple surf contests are held throughout the year at different times and in different places. Check with local surfing schools for up to date information.

Top festivals in Bali

Nyepi (Day of Silence):  Bali’s major Hindu festival, Nyepi, or the Day of Silence, celebrates the beginning of a new year and is marked by inactivity. Legends say that this is a strategy to convince evil spirits that Bali is uninhabited and therefore not worthy of visiting! Jokes on them. The day involves prayer, meditation and quiet reflection.

Bali Arts Festival:  For an island with a strong history of cultural arts, it’s no surprise the Bali Arts Festival has pride of place in the annual calendar. Based at the Taman Wedhi Budaya arts center in Denpasar, travelers can see village-based dance groups competing for local pride across several traditional dance categories. The date changes each year but is typically held between mid-June to mid-July.

Bali Kite Festival:  From July to October, the skies of southern Bali fill with huge, colorful monsters, critters and imaginative creations. Scores of kites are launched by the locals as part of this special spiritual event. It is believed the kites urge the gods to provide abundant harvests.

Indonesian Independence Day:  Held on 17 August each year, this day celebrates Indonesia's independence from the Dutch in 1945. Expect to see legions of marching school children, flags, kites and fireworks. Don’t expect to get anywhere quickly either on the day or the days leading up to it.

Galungan and Kuningan:  Galungan celebrates the death of a legendary tyrant called Mayadenawa. The celebrations come to a head with the Kuningan festival, which is when the Balinese say thanks and goodbye to the gods. The exact dates of these two festivals vary as they are planned using the 210-day wuku (or Pawukon) calendar.

Geography and environment

Bali is undoubtedly Indonesia’s most popular province thanks to its abundance of beautiful beaches, leafy jungles and impressive mountains. Located just east of Java and west of Lombok, the Bali province includes not only the island of Bali but also a few of the smaller neighboring islands, such as Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan.

Bali's highest mountain is Mt Agung (3,031 m, 9,944 ft), which is also known as the "Mother Mountain”. One of the other popular volcanoes on the island is Mt Batur. Both of these volcanoes have contributed to Bali’s incredibly fertile soil, which has allowed the rice crop trade to flourish.

Bali is located just 8 degrees south of the equator, which means it enjoys a fairly even climate year-round. The average year-round temperature hovers around 86°F, with a humidity level of about 85%. It's also surrounded by coral reefs and is part of the Coral Triangle, an area with the highest biodiversity of marine species. Over 500 reef-building coral species can be found here, which is seven times the entire Caribbean.

Bali’s problems with environmental pollution are well-documented, and it’s fair to say that the nearly 5.7 million tourists who visit annually are contributing their fair share. In late 2017, Indonesian officials declared a “garbage emergency” after a tide of plastic washed up a 5.8 kilometer (3.6 mile) stretch of coastline. We encourage all travelers to carry a reusable plastic bottle with them, a reusable tote bag for carrying items and to try and minimize their use of plastics wherever possible.

While you’ll find many of the main tourism hubs, like Seminyak and Kuta, filled with international fashion labels, there are also many local boutiques offering a wide variety of hand-made goods. These include traditional wood carvings (and even some famously phallic bottle openers), silver jewelry, colorful sarongs, eco-friendly bags, bamboo satchels, recycled furniture and a near limitless range of body oils and fragrances. Of course, if you’re looking for a traditional ‘I Heart Bali’ t-shirt or Bintang singlet, these are never in short supply either.

Like many parts of South East Asia, bargaining is a big part of the local shopping experience. Getting a good price comes down to how well you can haggle, but it’s important to have fun, bargain in good faith, and remember to smile. You’ll usually find better prices, and more negotiable shop owners, away from the main tourist strips.

When is the best time to visit Bali?

Sitting a snug 8 degrees from the equator, Bali’s climate is classic tropics. There’s a dry season and a rainy season, and not a whole lot in between.

The best time for a Bali tour (weather-wise) is the July to August peak season, or from December to the first week of January.

Although if you’d like to avoid the crowds (and why wouldn’t you) shoulder months like April, May, June and September make an excellent alternative.

The weather is dry and slightly less humid, and the island in general is a lot more relaxed.

October isn’t too bad either, especially if you’re into water sports like scuba diving, surfing or snorkeling (the rainfall is much lighter than in November).

Do you need a visa for a Bali tour?

The short answer is maybe – depending on your nationality. Passport holders from over 60 countries (including the   UK ,   Australia   and the   United States ) can enter Indonesia with a free tourist visa on arrival which allows you to stay for 30 days for tourism purposes. An immigration officer will date stamp your passport when you arrive and you will not be able to extend your stay. If you overstay there are hefty fines of IDR 1,000,000 (approximately 70 USD) per day.

If there's a chance you might want to stay longer than 30 days, you'll need to pay for a visa on arrival or apply for one prior to traveling at an overseas Indonesian consulate or embassy.

To enter Bali, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  • proof of onward or return ticket
  • proof of funds to pay for your expenses during your trip
  • completed immigration card (this will usually be given to you on the plane or at the arrival terminal)

Local laws require that you must be able to show your valid passport at any time when required to do so by an immigration office. We recommend taking a clear photocopy of your passport photo page, and visa (after arriving), to carry with you.

This page is for general information only and may be subject to change. It is your responsibility to obtain relevant visa and travel information required for entry, departure and travel to each country or region you visit on your trip. You should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates.

Should I tip on a Bali tour?

Tipping isn’t compulsory in Bali, or anywhere else in Indonesia. But, like most countries, it’s very much appreciated.

Remember that many Balinese rely on tourism as a main source of income, and a tip is always appreciated.

What is the internet access like in Bali?

In tourist centers like Kuta, Seminyak, Denpasar, and Lovina internet access should be fine, and there will be plenty of internet cafes (or cafes with free internet) to choose from if your Wi-Fi isn’t up to scratch.

In more rural areas, there could be little or no coverage, particularly during homestays. Just remember to plan ahead.

What are the toilets like in Bali?

Restaurants and hotels in developed tourist centers will have Western-style flush toilets.

In more rural areas the traditional squat toilet will be more common.

We recommend packing a bottle of hand sanitizer if you plan to visit rural parts of Bali.

What will it cost for a...?

Indonesia is one of the world's favorite budget travel destinations. Here's what you can roughly expect to pay for a:

  • Street food snack = 0.15c USD
  • Fresh juice = 0.40c USD
  • Bottle of beer in a bar = 1.50 USD
  • Souvenir sarong = 1.80 USD
  • Dinner in a restaurant = 3 USD

Can I drink the water on a Bali tour?

Drinking water from taps isn’t recommended in Indonesia, but for environmental reasons try to avoid buying bottled water every day. There are a number of filtered canteens you can purchase or bring a supply of water filtration tablets that you can drop into your bottle wherever you go.

If you’re traveling on an Intrepid Travel trip, we always carry with us a large drum of water in our truck to refill your bottles on the road. Our hotel operators will also provide water free of charge to refill your bottles.

Are credit cards accepted widely in Bali?

Major credit cards are widely accepted by large shops, hotels and restaurants in Bali.

T hey may not be accepted by smaller vendors such as small family restaurants, market stalls or in remote towns and rural areas.

Make sure you carry enough cash for purchases since credit cards aren't always an option everywhere in Bali.

What is ATM access like in Indonesia?

ATMs are found widely throughout Bali, so withdrawing cash shouldn't be problematic in most areas. Some smaller villages and rural areas may not have ATM access, so be prepared for this before venturing too far from a city or major town.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?

Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

For more information on insurance, please go to: Travel Insurance

What public holidays are celebrated in Bali?

Public holidays may vary from year to year. Find out more information on current public holidays in Bali.

Are Intrepid trips accessible for travelers with disabilities?

We are committed to making travel widely  accessible , regardless of ability or disability. We do our best to help you see the world, regardless of physical or mental limitations.

We are always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them toward the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

Is Bali safe for LGBTQIA+ travelers?

Homosexuality is legal in most of Indonesia, however, revisions to Indonesia’s criminal code are currently being considered that would criminalize gay sex and same-sex relationships. Advocacy groups fear this would represent a profound setback to human rights in Indonesia as a result. The LGBTQIA+ community has also been known to be targeted and harassed by police.

Bali, with its Hindu majority, has always been more liberal, tolerant and relaxed in attitude, however, public displays of affection are still not the norm for any couples anywhere in the country. Upscale hotels will likely not have any issues with same-sex travelers sharing a bed, however, if you are staying in budget or family-run businesses and are allocated separate beds, you might feel more comfortable not drawing attention to your relationship.

Because sex, in general, is a taboo subject in Indonesian society, the issue of sexuality is unlikely to arise while traveling here. Indonesia is generally safe for queer travelers, provided you are willing to be discreet and cautious with public behavior.

For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting  Equaldex  or  ILGA  before you travel.

The 7 Best Group Tours To Bali For Bucket List Adventures

best group tours to Bali

Group tours to Bali promise to be an experience like no other. These are guided packages that whisk you off to the legendary Isle of the Gods of Indonesia, a mystical land of waterfalls, emerald rice paddies, glassy surf breaks , and otherworldly Hindu temples that we think just about every traveler should see at least once in their life.

With thousands (and we really do mean thousands) of tour providers out there, there are now all sorts of itineraries on the menu these days. You can pick four-week odysseys that take in hidden Balinese villages, include hardcore volcano treks, and surf days to boot. Or you can do quick whistlestop tours of the island’s main POIs, from Kuta Bali beach in the south to the dolphin-watching haven of Lovina in the north.

This guide to the seven best group tours in Bali runs through a selection of what we think are the crème-de-la-crème of the options currently out there. We’ve picked an array of packages that suit the hikers, the beach lovers, the surfers, and even those who like to stray a little off the beaten path. Let’s get started…

Table of Contents

Beautiful Bali with Intrepid Travel

Ubud Bali

We think the Beautiful Bali package with Intrepid Travel is almost perfectly calibrated to give you a taste of all aspects of the fabled Isle of the Gods in the short space of just nine days. It’s a fantastic fly-in, fly-out adventure that will whisk you from the sparkling beaches of the south coast to the misty rice paddies under Mount Agung.

The trip starts in the arty town of Ubud. That’s often hailed as Bali’s cultural capital but has emerged as a bit of a backpacker and shopping haven away from the beaches. This is the place to partake in a bit of quintessential Balinese massage and Zen yoga overlooking the green countryside, and to see an amazing Kecak Fire Dance in a local temple once the sun goes down.

After that, you’ll push on through the highlands of south-central Bali to the lesser-known valley of Sidemen. That’s one of our secret picks, offering waterfall hikes and volcano views. Later, you’ll head north to go dolphin watching in Lovina and then back south for the white-sand beaches of Sanur. Overall, it’s a cracking package for culture vultures and adventurers, even if it skips much of the hipster south coast and – crucially – the surf.

Bali Beaches with Real Gap

Nusa Penida Bali

This 8-13-day adventure in the Isle of the Gods might by called Bali Beaches , but it’s not limited to just the one island. It’s basically a whistlestop tour of some of the finest sands and coves that this corner of the Indonesian Nusa Tenggara can muster, with more turquoise lagoons, surf breaks, and snorkeling sessions than you can shake your peanut satay sticks at.

The black-sand strands of ever-vibrant Canggu start things off. You’ll begin with evening sunset drinks in the hip bars down there, followed by a morning at the eye-watering Tanah Lot Temple. Then it’s off Bali itself to hit the next-door isles of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan, which host the Insta-worthy locations of T-Rex beach and the famous drift dive sites of Tojapakeh reef.

If you pick the longer version of the trip, there’s even time to squeeze on a trip to the island of Lombok (which many say is a bit like Bali from 20 years back, only it has a rich Muslim heritage and even higher volcanos at its heart). Plus, those 13-day tours include a pitstop on Gili Trawangan, the party paradise of the Bali Strait!

Classic Bali with G Adventures

Kintamani Bali

The Classic Bali tour with G Adventures is another attempt to squash all the necessities into a single week. Again, this one transports you from coast to coast through the remote and lush hill landscapes and jungles of south-central Bali, ticking off everything from surfer spots to coffee plantations along the way.

We’d say there are one or two things that help it stand out from the crowd. First, you’ll drop by the coffee growing region of Kintamani. That’s a spectacular corner of the Isle of the Gods with tasty brews plus jaw-dropping views of Mount Batur (Bali’s second-highest volcano). Second, you finish up on the lesser-known beaches of Candi Dasa on the east coast, which are great for escaping the crowds (and, sadly, water pollution) of the south coast.

This is a fully planned itinerary that will set you back around $750 per person. It includes all accommodation in midrange hotels and a mix of public and private transportation options throughout.

Indonesia 360 with We Road

Monkey Forest Ubud

Just as the name implies, the Indonesia 360 tour is about much more than just Bali. It’s a 13-day adventure that takes you through the very heart of the most populous Muslim nation on the planet, crossing the jungles and reserves and volcanic mountain massifs of Java before hopping to the Isle of the Gods and then pushing on even further.

The portion of the trip on Bali itself lasts only three days. That might not sound like all that much but it’s enough time to fit in a walk through of the magical Monkey Forest of Ubud, a clutch of ancient teak trees and Hindu shrines that’s been colonized by cheeky crab-eating macaques. It’s also enough time to hit the beach bars of Kuta.

What’s really great about this trip, though, is that it puts Bali the destination in the context of greater Indo. You’ll see the stark difference between the Hindu cultures of one and the Muslim traditions of the other, get to explore cities like Yogyakarta (a cool hipster and backpacker hub on Java), and watch the sunset over Bali itself from next-door Senggigi.

Bali Experience with Intro Travel

Gili Islands

Intro Travel’s flagship Bali adventure is one that we’d say really homes in on the younger crowd out there. It’s a flashpacker trip extraordinaire, offering a chance to hit Old Man’s et al (AKA the coolest beach bars on the island) with plenty of chill time on the side.

Don’t worry – there’s a good dose of culture in there for balance. You’ll see the Hindu shrines of Ubud to finish off, where you can watch Kecak dances and go shopping for batik and specialty coffee. Lovina is also there, with its quieter sands and days of dolphin spotting. The whole itinerary reaches a penultimate zenith with between six and nine days on the Gilis . That’s perfect for partying on Gili T and getting hard-earned massages on Gili Air.

The Bali Experience is hardly a bank-account-bolsterer. It comes in at a cool 1.4k in total. It’s also two full weeks of travel. For something shorter and easier on the wallet, consider picking the nine-day Bali Intro option instead.

Luxury Bali Tour with Jacada Travel

Infinity pool Bali

Calling all A-listers. Calling all lottery winners. Jacada Travel offer some of the most bespoke and tailored Bali experiences out there today. Their packages differ from client to client, but are always based in five-star accommodations, usually tucked somewhere between the rice paddies of Ubud with infinity pools that have 180-degree views of the smoking volcanos.

And just because it’s on the higher end of the scale, it certainly doesn’t mean there’s any compromise on the activities that are included. Itineraries with these guys can include heart-thumping ziplines above the rainforests, cycling jaunts that take you through grass-green farm terraces in the company of water buffalo, and hikes to the top of Mount Batur’s hidden caldera lake.

Cost wise and timing wise, there’s really no knowing what you’ll get until you reach out and start piecing together your curated travel plan. Exciting, eh? Just be sure there’s enough dosh to get it all booked!

Bali Boutique Tour with Bali Bucket List Tours

Beach Gili T

If you’re not one for mainstream tour companies and prefer to keep things independent, then the guys over at Bali Bucket List Tours might have just what you’re after. They run just two curated itineraries that are all about sharing the hidden gems of the island that they’ve fallen in love with over the last several years or so.

We’re focusing on the Boutique Tour here since that’s the crème-de-la-crème of what they do. It’s a touch more upscale than the basic 10-day romp, with ultra-lux accommodation on offer to start things off in Seminyak.

After that initial hit of margaritas on the beach, you’ll move onto the common plan of heading north to Ubud and then over to the Gilis. The finale is on beautiful Nusa Penida , with a bout of snorkeling and swimming in appropriately named Crystal Bay followed by a group meal with the sunset.

The best group tours in Bali – our conclusion

With so many outfitters currently offering group tours to Bali, it can be tricky to know where to begin when you come to book your adventure around the iconic Isle of the Gods. That’s okay – we’re here to help. We’ve been coming to this wave-bashed, jungle-topped rock in the Indian Ocean for more than 10 years, so we know a thing or two about what destinations really should make it onto tour itineraries. This list runs through the seven top choices for 2023, with short romps around Ubud and the Bukit beaches next to longer trips that take in the complete island.

Bali Trip FAQ's

When is the best time/month to travel bali.

What's awesome about Bali is that it's hot most of the time, making it a destination that can be travelled throughout the whole year. There are two main seasons in Bali: from April to September when it's hot and dry, and from October to March when it gets a little cooler and there's a higher chance of some rain. The tropical showers don't usually hang around for long; they pass through, cool you down, and then the sun comes back out! We run our small group tours in Bali all year round.

How many days in Bali is enough?

We suggest putting aside 2-3 weeks if you’re planning to travel to Bali for the first time alone. There is much to see and do, and you’ll need time to understand how things work as it can get a little tricky with all the different transport options. Our tour in Bali is just under 2 weeks and takes away all the hassles and worries of travelling alone. We’ll handle all the tough/boring stuff, giving you the freedom to enjoy each and every day to the fullest 🙌🏼

Do I need a visa to travel to Bali?

For most travellers, Bali is a very easy country to visit with a simple 'Visa on Arrival' process. There are over 40 countries eligible to travel to Bali through the VOA scheme, and the visa can be obtained on arrival for a small fee. Be sure to do your research as each country/passport can have different rules. It's your responsibility to ensure you've ticked all the necessary boxes to enter Bali hassle-free.

What injections/vaccinations do I need for Bali?

Similar to visas, we are not medical professionals and would hate to give you false or misleading information. We recommend you book an appointment with your doctor or local pharmacy to discuss your travel plans and what precautions you need to be aware of. They will provide up-to-date official guidance and will no doubt have your vaccination and immunisation history on file. All destinations and areas we travel to are generally low risk but best to be on the safe side. Click here for a useful resource provided by the UK NHS website .

What about COVID-19 travel restrictions in Bali?

It's always a good idea to check whether your destination or airline requires you to be COVID-19 vaccinated or tested to travel. It's your responsibility to stay up-to-date and ensure you join us on the Bali tour without any issues. Click here for a useful resource provided by the UK government .

What kind of people join these group tours?

It doesn't matter whether you're travelling solo, with a friend, or adventuring as a couple. Our trips are full of different people from all corners of the world with a common goal to have the BEST time with like-minded people. Our trips are super popular for people looking to explore a new place but don't want the worry of doing it alone or don't have the time to plan it themselves. Jumping on a group tour in Bali is a super convenient and hassle-free way to travel!

Are group tours in Bali worth it? Why would I not just travel solo?

Travelling alone is a big commitment and often requires a significant amount of planning both before you set off and when you arrive. It can be nerve-racking and often very overwhelming. Joining a group trip can remove all those worries and leave you completely worry-free with everything planned for you from the moment you arrive. Our Bali group tours include an airport pickup upon arrival, comfortable hotel/guesthouse accommodation, transport between locations here in Bali, local activities and experiences, and a bunch of meals to get you started.

I am looking to come alone, do many people travel solo?

Yes, absolutely! Most people actually come alone, with there often being a few people travelling together either as friends or as a couple. Our trips are perfect for solo travellers as you'll make friends from the moment you arrive, and you'll have the confidence and security of doing it as a group.

How much money do you need for 2 weeks in Bali?

Once you've booked your flights, paid off your trip and got some solid travel insurance you'll be all set for that Bali adventure. We suggest bringing no less than £300/$400 but this should be the bare minimum. Some people can spend less but the average will be looking at around £400-500/$500-700 to cover shopping, drinks, extra meals and anything else you fancy treating yourself to... maybe a few massages!?

What should I book first, the flights or the tour?

Great question! We always suggest getting the trip locked in first before booking flights. This way, you won’t be left disappointed if the trip goes full and you’ve already booked your flights. There are usually plenty of flight tickets available, but with our trips, the spaces are limited and the trips fill up pretty fast. We suggest booking your trip first, followed by your flight, and then purchasing your travel insurance to cover all eventualities. It’s a good idea to get these three out of the way as soon as possible.

How far in advance do you recommend booking my trip to Bali?

The average traveller typically books their trip 3-4 months in advance, which usually means there are plenty of options when it comes to dates. If you decide to book last minute, be prepared for limited availability. If you have your heart set on a specific date or trip, you should consider placing a deposit right away.

I’ve been looking at a few companies, what makes Feel Free Travel different?

If you're asking this question, you've probably not read what our incredible travellers are saying in the reviews . You would have noticed already that we are insanely passionate about sharing life-changing experiences with our groups. When we travel, it's more like a group of mates with that one friend who thankfully knows where they're going. Our group sizes are small and intimate, averaging 12-16 travellers. If you've not yet already, click here to join the 'Feel Free Family - Facebook Group' .

Is it possible to book a private tour of Bali with a group of friends?

We primarily specialise in bringing solo travellers together that arrive as complete strangers and soon become best friends/extended travel family. With that being said, we have been known to offer private tours subject to availability. If you send us an email to [email protected] one of the team will be in touch and see what we can do… no promises!
