About Hacienda Guachipelin

Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin is one of the few establishments within Rincon de la Vieja. They’re known for comfortable and reliable accommodations, with cozy ranch-style rooms and impressive spa and gym facilities. 

Aside from the ranch hotel, many also stop by Hacienda Guachipelin for their Adventure Center. They have a long list of excursions, tours, and adventures fit for all types of travellers. Waterfall rappelling, river tubing, wall climbing, and horseback riding are just some of the things you can do. And if you’re not big on adrenaline, there are hiking trails, hot springs, and even relaxation tours to check out, too. Day visitors can choose between a half-day or one-day adventure pass to experience all these.

Bordering  Rincon de la Vieja National Park ’s Las Pailas Section, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ranch hotel also boasts rich wildlife. There are lush gardens with native trees and exotic flowers welcoming wildlife and birdlife. Plus, beautiful viewpoints give you uninterrupted panoramic views of the exciting active volcanoes, the Guanacaste plains, and even the Pacific Coastline.

How to Get to Hacienda Guachipelin, Costa Rica

Driving  is the most convenient way to get to Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin, and we recommend bringing your own car. The roads getting there are paved, so it’s an easy drive for any kind of vehicle, and there’s free parking at the property.

Because of its forest location, there is no public transportation from the closest city (Liberia) or town (Curubande) that can take you directly to Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin. However, the hotel does offer transportation services at an added cost. The hotel minibus can pick you up from the airport, Liberia City, or Curubande Town, depending on the route you’re taking.

From the Liberia International Airport, drive 32km (20mi) east to the Liberia Main Intersection on the Pan-American Highway. From there, follow the directions to Curubande/Rincón de la Vieja National Park – Las Pailas Sector. The gate to Hacienda Guachipelin is 15.7km (9.6mi) away.

From San José, Liberia is 210km (130mi) away or a 4-5-hour drive. The roads are smooth, so it should be a relatively easy drive. Once in Liberia, follow the same directions towards Curubande/Rincon de la Vieja National Park – Las Pailas Sector. 

By Bus/Shuttle

From San Jose, there’s a public bus called the Pulmitan Bus Line that goes to Liberia. It leaves every hour between 3:00AM to 8:00PM, and the whole drive will take about 4-5 hours. Alternatively, you can make arrangements with other companies that provide private shuttle transfers from hotels and tourist destinations all around Costa Rica.

From other beaches in Guanacaste, Monteverde, or Arenal, it’s better to consult your hotel for the best routes to take on public transportation to get to Liberia. Once you’re in Liberia City, Hacienda Guachipelin offers hotel minivan services that can pick you up for an additional fee.

Liberia International Airport (officially known as Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport or Guanacaste International Airport) is the closest airport to Hacienda Guachipelin. From there, you can make arrangements for the Hacienda Guachipelin minivan to pick you up at an additional cost.

From San Jose International Airport, a flight to Liberia takes only 45 minutes. There are two local airlines with scheduled flights to Liberia: Nature Air and Sansa Airlines. 

Best Time to Visit Hacienda Guachipelin, Costa Rica

In Costa Rica, the dry season is from December to April. Many tourists consider this the best time to visit because it’s typically sunny and warm. Since this is considered peak season, expect tickets, accommodations, and even some activities to be priced higher than normal. However, since Hacienda Guachipelin borders Rincón de la Vieja National Park, chances of rain are much higher due to the mountain’s high altitude.

Meanwhile, the rainy season (or green season) in Costa Rica is from May to November. Rainfall is unpredictable during these months, though it usually gets more intense during the afternoon and at night. But take it from us: a little rain isn’t all that bad. The heavy rains bring out lush and beautiful foliage across the country, making it a nature wonderland. Experiencing any national park during the magical green season has its own perks, too.

Things to Do at Hacienda Guachipelin, Costa Rica

Set off on a hiking trail.

There are lots of scenic hiking trails in Hacienda Guachipelin that lead to waterfalls, national park trails, hot springs, ponds immersed in the forest, and more. Walk past exotic wildlife and flora while you head to Guanacaste’s most active volcano, stunning waterfalls, or hot springs.

Try Horseback Riding

Horse riding is another preferred mode of transportation at the Hacienda. Different horseback riding tours take you to the waterfalls, hot springs, national park trails, and even to the on-site spa. There’s even a  Cowboy for a Day Tour  where you can meet Guanacasteco sabaneros!

Zip Line Through the Trees

Ziplining is one of the most exciting adventure tours to try in Costa Rica. The one-of-a-kind zip line  Canyon Canopy Tour  lets you fly through trees on zip lines, rappel, rock climb, swing like Tarzan, and cross the hanging bridge over the stunning White River Canyon.

Go with the Flow while River Tubing

Feel the rush of excitement as you bounce and splash down miles of river rapids! There are a few river tubing tours to choose from, like a  quick 2.5-hour tubing adventure  down Rio Negro, or a  half-day tour  that includes lunch and ends with a trip to the natural volcanic hot springs.

Gear Up for Mountain Biking

Explore the ranch and beyond on a mountain biking tour. There’s a  single-track tour  with cool shaded trails, while an  Iron Horse tour  takes to the rugged terrain of an active volcano. If you want to go on your own mountain bike ride, there’s also an option to  rent your own bike .

Head to the Waterfalls

There are at least 7 waterfalls near Hacienda Guachipelin: some with nature pools great for a swim or a jump, while others are best appreciated from afar. If you can’t choose just one, there’s a  day tour  that covers 3 hidden waterfalls and ends at the relaxing hot springs.

Unwind at the Hot Springs

Hot springs are known to have rejuvenating and therapeutic benefits, and they’re a must for relaxation. The natural hot water is rich in minerals and is heated by the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. The hot springs offer hot volcanic mud that can be used for a relaxing volcanic mud bath.

Go on a Canyoning Adventure

Adrenaline junkies are going to enjoy this one! Rock climb, rappel, and splash into the cascading waterfalls. You can choose a tour that finishes off the canyoning adventure with a cool swim or a warm dip at the hot springs.

Combo Tours

Hacienda Guachipelin’s Adventure Center offers more than 20 adventure tours and nature tours. The best way to fit in as many activities as you’d like is to check out their  combo tours , with half-day and full-day passes to choose from.

The One-Day Adventure Pass is the most popular, starting at USD $115. This takes about 8.5 hours and includes a canopy tour, tubing, hot springs, horseback riding, and a lunch buffet. 

If you don’t have a full day to spare, there are half-day passes at great value. A 4.5-hour half-day canyon tour lets you experience the highlights starting at USD $85: rock climbing, ziplining, rope swinging, hot springs, and mud baths.

Staying in Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin, Costa Rica

Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin  is a 4-star mountain resort with a total of 79 guest rooms, mostly Legacy Suites and Superior Rooms. These are all comfortably furnished, with different configurations to accommodate various groups and special requests.

Room rates include a full breakfast buffet as well as free access to 7 waterfalls and the Rio Negro Hot Springs and Mud Baths. Other property amenities include the swimming pool, spa and sauna, room service, free wi-fi, and more. The Adventure Park is close by, too. 

The first-class hotel keeps nature at the heart of the whole stay. It’s entirely powered by hydro and geothermal electricity and uses only spring water. Apart from that, all cleaning products used are non-toxic, biodegradable, petrochemical-free, and phosphate-free.

Standard Room

This room has 1 double bed and 1 single bed, perfect for small families or groups of 3. Guests who are ready for adventure will appreciate its convenient location right by the Activities Center. The Hacienda Guachipelin Restaurant and the swimming pool are close to the area, too. The standard room comes with air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a safe box, a closet, a telephone, cable TV, a coffee maker, and hot water. 

Superior Room

This room includes 2 double beds or 1 queen (subject to availability), and is a more spacious, more luxurious version of the Standard Room. The Superior Room interiors have warm wood finishes and local art that showcase elements of Guanacaste heritage and traditions. These are great for groups looking for rooms that are right next to each other, as the Superior Rooms are set in a horseshoe-shaped formation around ancient Tempisque and Cedro Amargo trees.

Family Superior Room

With 1 single bed, 1 double bed, and 1 king-sized bed, this room is a good fit for families or groups of friends. The room includes a security box, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a mini fridge, cable TV, a coffee maker, a phone, and a solar-powered water heater. Another plus is its great location near the main reception area, keeping guests close to the outdoor pool, restaurant, and Activity Center.

Legacy Suite

Guests can choose between a Queen or King Legacy Suite, with 2 queen or king-sized beds respectively. The Legacy Suites are beautifully designed, featuring traditional Guanacaste architecture and authentic handcrafted furniture. One of the best spots here is the hammocks on the private front terrace, where you can observe all the unique bird and animal life that drop by the Hacienda. These top-quality Legacy Suites are highly recommended for guests who want a quieter, private, and comfortable experience.

The Suites are considered the “crown jewels of accommodations” at Hacienda Guachipelin. There are two premier suites, the El Cenízaro and the El Cedro, named after two iconic giant tree types found in Guanacaste. Each Suite has a spacious open-plan living area that features Costa Rican furniture and art. It comes with one king bed, a private bathroom with hot water, shower and bathtub, and a large terrace and private patio. Guests are treated to an incredible view of the volcano right outside their doorstep.

Restaurants in Hacienda Guachipelin, Costa Rica

• La Hacienda Restaurant  offers a taste of traditional Costa Rican food prepared by chefs who follow time-honoured traditional recipes from the Guanacaste region. La Hacienda serves salads, meats, pasta, snacks, desserts, and drinks made from sustainably sourced ingredients, most of which are grown right on the ranch.
• Nekajui Garden is located in the Hacienda’s old garden. There are 4 fire pits positioned around the open outdoor area where people can gather around. The gourmet Nekajui Restaurant also offers select dishes prepared in the hacienda’s old clay oven–a great way to taste some of the area’s delicious food.
• Rincón del Café gives you a taste of authentic, high-quality Costa Rican coffee with beans from Naranjo and Tarrazú, two of the most renowned coffee regions in Costa Rica. Pair your cup with their gluten-free pastries and cheesecakes, or try their empanada and tacos.
• Canopy Bar  serves savoury snacks and delicious drinks, but what sets it apart is the lively atmosphere. If you want to enjoy live music and the sunset, Canopy Bar is your go-to. Don Justo, a living legend who’s been playing the marimba for more than 50 years, is in charge of the music, and he’s sure to have you dancing the night away.

Bottom Line

Hacienda Guachipelin is a rustic, three-pearl property located on a working cattle ranch on the border of Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The ranch’s 64 rooms and suites are simple, yet appealing, and some offer mini-fridges and coffeemakers. The ranch features wonderful hiking trails, an outdoor spring-fed swimming pool, and free access to a set of natural hot springs. For a fee, guests can also enjoy activities ranging from horseback riding to river inner-tubing. While the ranch’s remote location is part of its allure, it also means that guests should be prepared for a rough, 30-minute journey to the nearest shops and restaurants (although the ranch has an adequate restaurant of its own on-site and serves free breakfast). Guests may want to compare rates and amenities with nearby Buena Vista Lodge, which offers a similar experience.

Historic cattle ranch offers guests a chance to get up close and personal with costa rica’s distinct flora and fauna.

The cattle ranch that serves as the site of Hacienda Guachipelin has been operating for over a century, and guests arriving at reception will immediately see that it continues to be as active as ever. Ranch hands work in the corrals alongside the reception area, and if you’re awake early enough, you might see them milking cows and getting fresh milk ready for breakfast. 

The ranch’s lush grounds offer gorgeous views of the Rincon de la Vieja and Santa Maria Volcanos, the Guanacaste plains, and the Pacific coastline. Pristine dry tropical forests cover part of the ranch grounds and surround the property, offering excellent trails for hikers and superb wildlife-viewing opportunities. Perhaps not surprisingly, given the ranch’s close relationship with nature, it aims to be as eco-friendly as possible. It has earned three leaves (out of five) in the Certification for Sustainable Tourism program by the Costa Rican Tourism Board, with initiatives that include solar-powered hot water heaters and reforestation programs. 

The ranch attracts a diverse mix of couples and families, as well as a few solo travelers. It's also a popular destination for group tours and day visitors, so the facilities can get busy in the high season. However, the ranch is large enough that it’s rarely difficult to find a quiet spot. As most guests are focused on active pursuits during the day, it’s not uncommon to have the pool completely to yourself when you’re in the mood to relax. 

At the foot of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano

Hacienda Guachipelin is located in northwestern Costa Rica, on the outskirts of Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The ranch is set on a 3,400-acre ranch, where it’s surrounded by dry tropical forests and other stunning natural scenery. This location is quite remote, with the nearest outpost of shops and restaurants located a 30-minute drive away in Liberia. While part of the route between the ranch and Liberia is paved, around eight miles of the journey takes guests along bumpy, unpaved roads. Even guests with rental cars generally have dinner at the ranch’s restaurant in order to avoid a challenging nighttime drive back to the ranch from Liberia. Liberia’s airport is around a 45-minute drive away. 

Pleasant rooms have local art 

Guest rooms at Hacienda Guachipelin are large and inviting, featuring off-white walls, terra-cotta-colored tiled flooring, and dark wood furniture. Ochre-toned blankets are folded neatly at the end of beds made with white linens and matching ochre bolster pillows. Walls are decorated with a few nice pieces of artwork depicting local animals and plants. All rooms have simple desks, as well as wardrobes or shelving units that hold personal safes. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout, but the signal can be spotty in some rooms. Superior Rooms add TVs, telephones, and coffeemakers. Suites further add living areas with sofas, chairs, and dining tables. Additional amenities in suites include mini-fridges and hairdryers. Suites also have pretty terraces with nice views of the grounds, which are furnished with a pair of rocking chairs.

Basic bathrooms, some of which have yellow or blue accent tiles, offer pump bottles of soap and shampoo. Roomy showers with older fixtures are covered by shower curtains, or enclosed by partial walls. Guests with rooms near the corral sometimes complain of odors and animal noise. 

During our visit, the ranch was in the process of constructing a new set of renovated rooms, which have lighter wood furniture and more modern bathrooms with vessel sinks. 

Wide array of adventure and nature tours, access to natural hot springs, and an uncrowded pool

Hacienda Guachipelin’s Adventure Center is its stand-out feature, offering over 20 adventure and nature tours both on the property and in nearby Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Popular options include whitewater river inner-tubing on the Rio Negro Rapids, horseback riding, and zip-line canopy tours. There are also tours that introduce guests to cowboy life on the ranch. These tours and excursions come at an additional cost. The One Day Adventure Pass is a favorite of both guests and day-visitors, which includes lunch as well as many as different tours as the pass holder can fit into a single day. 

Regular shuttle service runs to the Rio Negro Hot Springs, where guests receive free admission. The site consists of several small, man-made hot spring pools of varying temperatures, surrounded by scenic forest. The pools are found on both sides of the river, connected by hanging bridges that stretch through the forest canopy. There are a couple of pots of warm volcanic mud that guests can rub on their bodies as a free natural spa treatment. Changing rooms, bathrooms, and lockers are provided. Simbiosis Spa offers open-air spa treatments, such as massages and aromatherapy, near the springs. 

The ranch has a modest kidney-shaped pool which is fed with natural spring water. It’s bordered by an attractive strip of greenery, and lined with a range of different seating areas, including wooden loungers and patio tables. 

Guests also have access to a variety of hiking and nature trails that wind through the partially-forested property, some of which lead to waterfalls or swimming holes. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. A pair of computers are offered in the reception area for guests' use. There are two free self-parking lots on site. 

All-Inclusive / Food

Nice restaurant and bar overlook the ranch’s beautiful grounds.

Hacienda Guachipelin’s restaurant is airy and offers picturesque views of the surrounding forests and valleys. The interior features rose-colored walls, wood beamed ceilings, and tablecloths spread over four-top tables. A bridge arches across one section of the restaurant, connecting two seating areas. Free buffet breakfast is included in the room rate, and the restaurant also serves a la carte and buffet options for lunch and dinner. Meals are primarily made with ingredients sourced on the property, including dairy and beef from the ranch’s own herd, as well as an array of herbs and veggies. 

The bar area found on the lower level of the restaurant is a smaller and more casual space. It offers a separate menu of light a la carte fare, along with drinks. Live music performances are often featured here.

Itinerary of Hacienda Guachipelin Adventure Volcano Combo Tour

First you will get strapped in your harness and start the ziplining course through the canopy and canyons! The course takes you into a steep canyon over a turbulent river, where you will zipline, rappel and rock climb, cross hanging bridges and ride Tarzan swings. You will go down 8 zip line cables, 18 platforms, a climbing wall, a hanging bridge, “via ferrata” (cable) rappel, and a tarzan swing!

After ziplining, you will return to the tour base to prepare for a 45-minute horseback ride through the forest viewing the local flora and fauna of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano

River Tubing

You will arrive on horseback to the changing rooms to get ready for your river tubing adventure. There will be a short briefing about safety on the river. Then it’s just a short walk to the foot of the Victoria Waterfall where the tubing adventure begins. You will have the time of your life bouncing down Rio Colorado’s crystal clear and fun rapids in your individual rafting “tube” for over 5 kilometers. The guides will be riding down with you to ensure your safety.

You will then be driven back to have a plentiful full buffet lunch. There are plenty of options for dietary restrictions such as vegetarians, gluten free, and vegan. Includes a salad bar, many choices of entrees and sides, dessert bar, fresh juice, coffee and tee.

Hot Springs & Volcanic Mud Bath

After lunch you will driven to the Hot Springs. Surrounded by tropical dry forest, the Río Negro (Black River) Hot Springs feature ten pools with thermal waters heated naturally by the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano.The soothing mineral waters are crystal clear and all natural, and the river flows through the pools constantly refilling them with water. Relax and enjoy luxuriating in our healing waters. You can also try our volcanic mud “bath”, where you smooth volcanic clay mud all over yourself like a spa “masque,” then after it dries, wash it off with a cool river water shower. The hot springs water will feel great afterwards!

About Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin

Hacienda Guachipelin is a hotel and adventure tour operator located near Liberia, Costa Rica in the Guanacaste province. The property sits on a vast expanse of land in the Rincon de la Vieja National Park, situating it in some of the most pristine dry tropical forests in Central America. 

We first discovered Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin on a trip we had taken to Casitas Tenorio followed by La Carolina Lodge when we were visiting the Rio Celeste area. I wanted to head to the beach after the time on both family farms, but as luck would have it, it was absolutely pouring rain for days on end, so the beach wasn’t going to be much fun.

We had found Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin online and I was intrigued by the fact that they had so many gorgeous hot springs and great excursions right on the property.  Then as I was talking to some friends who live in Liberia, they mentioned that the food at the restaurant was super delicious and they would drive out just to eat traditional food. 

Well, that sealed the deal. We spent two nights and three incredibly rainy days at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin, and I can say that the experience was phenomenal and I can highly recommend it. What I most loved is that everything offered at the resort is true to Costa Rican culture and traditions, making it a great place to experience the “real” Costa Rica.

Location – Getting There And Away

One thing that is super great about Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin is how incredibly easy it is to arrive. It’s only 40 minutes northeast of the Liberia Airport, and only about 20 minutes from the Liberia town center. This means that it is also super close to many of the northern Guanacaste beaches (we love Playa Nacazcolo , Playa Cabuyal , and Planet Hollywood Costa Rica. )

The property is just steps from Rincon de La Vieja National Park, and avid hikers and mountain bikers will find the location perfect for park arrival at dawn. This is also near the newly famous La Leona waterfall which I think is a must-visit for families on their way to Hotel Hacienda Guachepelin.

You may want to rent a car to explore Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin as the hot springs and the national park are a short drive from the hotel proper. There are on-site shuttles, but you do need to wait for them and we enjoyed the flexibility of having our own car. 

Accommodations

There are a total of 79 guest rooms on the property. There are several types of rooms- standard room, superior room, family superior room, legacy suite, and a suite.  

The rooms are located all over the property, and some are driving distance from the main pool and lobby, so if you do not have your own car it might be good to check where your room will be located, or prepare to do a lot of walking. 

We stayed in a standard room which was very comfortable- there were large Spanish tiles on the floor, two very comfortable beds, air conditioning, cable television, free access to wireless internet, a hot water shower, and a coffee maker. A Costa Rican breakfast buffet was included with our stay. 

I think almost all of the rooms are basically the same except some are bigger to accommodate larger groups. The suites have private terraces and are a bit more spacious. 

Overall I would describe the rooms as comfortable but not luxurious. They were extremely clean and comfortable for what we needed. And we spent a lot of extra time in them because of the torrential rains when we were there (note- this was not typical for the time of year of the region- we just got lucky, haha).

All of the dining options at Hacienda Guachipelin are in the main lodge, and there are several options- a buffet, a sit-down traditional dinner, and a sports bar. 

The food is mostly traditional Costa Rican food , and the buffet is all-you-can-eat. We really enjoyed the food, and there were marimba players playing traditional Costa Rican folk songs while we ate. Waiters wore traditional dress, and the dining experience was really relaxed and nice. All the food is locally sourced and super fresh. 

What I most loved is that children under 6 ate free at the buffet, and there was a kid’s menu with prices under $5. That helped us to splurge a bit on food as we didn’t have to pay for our kids when we were there. 

A reader recently told me that the hotel also offers an extensive gluten-free menu and that the gluten-free offerings were really good.

There is a small store on site with a few snacks, etc, but the area is pretty much in the middle of nowhere so if you want extras or specific foods it’s best to get them when you drive through Liberia.

The tours are the crown jewel of Hacienda Guachipelin. There is so much to do ! Guests of the hotel can experience the Rio Negro hot springs at no extra charge- they are gorgeous hot springs and mud baths located super close to the volcano. 

The hot springs are situated next to a gorgeous river, and you hike into the forest, cross a natural hanging bridge, and then arrive at the natural hot springs. The experience is awesome. You can bring your own beer or buy some at the trailhead, and you just relax and enjoy the natural hot water.

Guests of the Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin can also hike (endless hikes!) and chase waterfalls at one of the 7 waterfalls located right on the property. Trails are well marked and we often saw employees walking around just to make sure everyone was safe and didn’t get lost. The girls adored hiking the property- even in the rain. There are lots of mosquitos deep in the forest, so make sure you have some great bug repellent.

When I was at the hot springs I heard a lot of people talking about their amazing day- they have purchased the Day Adventure pass and done all of the above with lunch. It sounded amazing, but we didn’t do it because we had a three-year-old at the time and she was too small to go on the excursions. 

Many of the beach hotels will book your adventure tours through Hacienda Guachipelin for you, and some include transportation. If you have your own transportation I recommend that you book your own excursions directly through the website here and then just drive up on your own. It’s really so easy to find that there’s no reason not to just get there on your own.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Day 3 - Tour to Kremlin

Waking up today morning, visit The Armoury, which is a treasury museum. Some parts of this museum houses artefacts and other historical pieces of interest like gowns and thrones, gold and silver items created by Russian and European jewellers as well as the armour worn by knights.

In addition to all these, you will also get the opportunity to visit Cathedral Square, Assumption, Archangel’s and Holy Annunciation Cathedrals in addition to the Tsar Cannon, the Tsar Bell, Alexander garden and take a ride on the Moscow metro train.

Day 4 - Cultural & Religious Tour in Moscow

New Maiden Nunnery, New Maiden Cemetery

Today will be the last day of the great Moscow tour. On this day, you will be visiting the New Maiden Nunnery, a convent known for housing sacred relics while also serving as a safe house for exiled girls who come from noble households if they get pregnant out of wed lock. Also visit New Maiden Cemetery, the burial ground for a number of powerful Russian and Soviet politicians, World War II heroes, musicians, authors and actors. Spend the rest of the day indulging in some personal sightseeing.

After two and half days getting acquainted with the city, we’ve set time aside for you to explore Moscow your way and discover your own favourite hang-outs in a city overflowing with hidden treasures

3-Day Moscow Tour Highlights:

• Panoramic Tour of Moscow: See Moscow beyond the postcard images on a private excursion by car through the city streets including a drive along the banks of the Moskva River. Visit the famous Bolshoi Theatre, pass by Gorky Park and the Novodevichy Convent, and admire the city from on high at the Sparrow Hill observation platform.
• Moscow Historical City Centre Guided Walking Tour : Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of one of the world’s biggest metropolises and discover local haunts on foot, including the Red Square, the Kremlin and the multi-coloured domes of St Basil’s Cathedral.
• Armory Chamber tour: Explore the endless treasures of this unique museum, displaying the wealth accumulated by Russian rulers from the 12th century until the October Revolution of 1917. Walking through the exhibition halls is a journey through the centuries.
• Moscow Metro Tour : Go deep underground on a subway tour of the famous Moscow metro. The world’s deepest metro system is renowned for its palatial, art-adorned stations, complete with marble columns and chandeliers.

On your first day, you’ll be treated to a panoramic, drive-by tour of Moscow to get a feel for the immense scale of one of the world’s most rapidly developing urban centres. The city’s history unfolds in real-time as you pass lavish imperial mansions, solemn Soviet structures and luxurious modern shopping centres.

Day two kicks off exploring Moscow’s historic centre on foot, followed by a tour of the Kremlin, the seat of Russian power and political intrigue for centuries. Stand in the Red Square, surrounded by the stunning architecture as you hear stories of the people and events behind many of Moscow’s most iconic landmarks.

On your final day, we’ll head beneath the city for a tour of the Moscow Metro and its famously ornate underground stations. History fans can follow a Soviet trail through the city including Stalin’s Bunker, while those seeking a more indulgent experience can browse trendy neighbourhoods like Kitay Gorod or shop for everything from fashion to kitsch souvenirs at the enchanting Izmaylovo Flea Market. Foodies can head to one of the countless speciality stores sampling vodka, caviar and chocolate.

Day 1 Panoramic city tour

Welcome to the glorious capital of Russia, Moscow! You’ll be met by your driver at the airport and taken to your centrally located hotel.

After check-in and rest, meet your private guide at the hotel lobby for a comprehensive tour of Moscow by car. Visit the starkly contrasting Theatre Square to see the stunning Bolshoi Theatre, pass Tverskaya Street, the city’s main boulevard and home to the landmark Yeleseyevskiy Grocery Store.

You’ll enjoy a panoramic drive along the Moskva River, where a huge, controversial state of Peter the Great was erected. Pass by the legendary Gorky Park and the White House before a stop at the architecturally stunning Novodevichy Convent, and the observation platform at Sparrow Hills, for a bird’s eye view over this staggering megalopolis.

Day 2 Red Square and Kremlin

After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the historical city centre. Stroll through the Red Square, the hub of cultural life in Moscow, with its elaborate ‘stone flower’ fountain and fantasy-like St Basil’s Cathedral – a postcard-perfect symbol of the nation. Admire the grandiose façade of GUM, the city’s most luxurious shopping centre, and visit Alexander’s Garden, with its eternal flame and the chance to watch a changing of the guards.

Break for lunch before continuing on a tour of the Kremlin and Armoury Chamber, famous of its collection of tsarist fashion, with regalia such as jewel-encrusted crowns, orbs and sceptres as well as arms and armour, exotic gifts from the leaders of faraway lands, and an illustrious case of Imperial Faberge eggs.

As an option* spend an evening on a sumptuous dinner cruise, taking in the stunning sights and city lights of this mesmerising metropolis by night.

Day 3 Metro and Arbat Street

Start a day with a tour of Metro, stopping on the way to marvel at some of the most elaborately decorated stations of the world-famous Moscow subway system. Take a stroll along Old Arbat street - the most famous street in Moscow. Through the centuries Arbat used to be one of the most bohemian places in Moscow. Today Arbat is a promenade full of small cozy cafes and street life.

The afternoon is free for you to either enjoy the rest of the day on your own or choose among optional excursions to explore more of Moscow. Visit the Tretyakov Gallery or Pushkin State Museum to admire Russian art. Join locals for a stroll at the Gorky or VDNH park.

Visit beautiful Kolomeskoye Estate or Izmailovo Kremlin, or spend a day exploring the beautiful city of the Golden Ring (Russian province) - Sergiev Posad. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your departure to your next destination.
