Gray Line Buenos Aires City Bus, Hop On Hop Off

What means hop on hop off tour.

A Hop On Hop Off bus is a sightseeing bus that enables you to get on and off as you please.

For Gray Line Argentina it means much more than that...

It means having the freedom to do a City Tour of Buenos Aires without a time limit to take the selfies you want, wherever you want and treasure those memories of the city forever.

It means being able to get off the bus tour and visit the River and Boca stadiums, where Maradona and Messi shouted their best goals.

Or to walk among the colorful little houses of Caminito or the exclusive neighborhood of Recoleta .

It means having the chance to enjoy a delicious lunch in Puerto Madero or simply the panoramic view of the city, which is only given by the double height and the open roof of our buses.

But always with the peace of mind of knowing that every 30 minutes, one of bus will be ready to take you to the next stop.

Secrets of Buenos Aires

Hop on Hop off bus Buenos Aires: worth the money?

Maybe you’re wondering if it’s worth the price to take the Buenos Aires city tour bus also known as the hop on hop off bus Buenos Aires. You see the yellow and red double-deck buses driving in the city and pretty tempting to sit on the upper deck in the sun. Hop on hop off!

The tours of hop on hop off bus Buenos Aires

There are 2 companies that provide hop on hop off bus tours in Buenos Aires. The yellow tourist bus by “Buenos Aires Bus” and the red double-deck busses by “Grayline”. You can choose based on budget and route.

Both buses are a hop on hop off system. It means you can start wherever you want, hop off and start again at the stop of your choice. When you take the sightseeing city bus you will see most of Buenos Aires.

Both busses the yellow bus from Buenos Aires bus and the red from Grayline do have stops at Recoleta, the Teatro Colón, Avenida de Mayo, the Plaza del Congreso, Parque Lezama, Boca Juniors’ La Bombonera stadium, La Boca, the Puente de la Mujer and the Reserva Ecológica.

Exclusively for Secrets of Buenos Aires readers, I made a map of the bus routes.

Which hop on hop off bus should I take?

There is a difference in the routes between the yellow and red bus lines. For example, the yellow bus has a stop in Palermo Soho and runs to the National Congress of Argentina.

If you want to visit the River Plate stadium, the red bus line is the one to take.

There are small differences in route throughout the route, but they both have stops at the most famous places.

Where to start and buy tickets for the city sightseeing bus?

It’s possible to buy your tickets online on Buenos Aires Bus and Grayline . For your comfort, buy your tickets for the hop on hop off bus online and start wherever you want in Buenos Aires. The ticket is 24h or 48h valid from the moment you hop on for the first time on your tour.

The Buenos Aires tour bus operates every day from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

The hop on hop off bus Buenos Aires: worth the money?

Depending on what type of tourist you are, it’s an easy way to discover the city. Buenos Aires bus 24h: 6000 ARS or approx. USD 40 Grayline Buenos Aires city bus: USD 35

The quality of the audio system is moderate with a choice of up to 10 languages (Spanish, English, Portuguese, German, French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, and Arabic). The seats are plastic but quite comfortable. A pair of small disposable earphones are provided by the company. The rooftop of the bus is divided into two parts: an open area and one cabin in front with air conditioning.

Buy ticket for the hop on hop off bus

If you want to buy a ticket for the Buenos Aires bus, you have two options.

One, you head to the main office at Florida 948 and buy the ticket there.

Second, you can buy your ticket online in advance. i strongly suggest buying the hop on hop off Buenos Aires bus ticket on their website and not third-party websites. On the website of the bus company, you can print the ticket and hop on everywhere you want. When you buy the ticket on a third-party website, you need to go to the main office to turn the mobile pass into a paper one. Strange, but it’s like that?

For the Grayline city bus, you can buy your ticket online here.

  • Don’t forget to put on a sun protector in spring and summer if you sit on the upper deck. It can be hot and sunny.
  • Buy your tickets online here for the Buenos Aires tour bus.
  • Take advantage of the hop-on and hop-off. Stop at some museums or places

I rate it a 3,5 star on 5. Taking a public bus will get you everywhere but the upper-deck has its advantages.

I absolutely love the hop-on-hop-off bus experience in Buenos Aires! It’s such a fantastic way to explore the city’s vibrant culture and rich history at your own pace. I’ve had the pleasure of taking this tour myself, and it was a memorable adventure.

Hi Glen, Thanks for this helpful Web Seite. 2 questions: 1) How much is a private Tour just for one day? 2) If we go with the yellow bus and buy the Tickets online, can we hop on everywher when we want to Start the Tour, or do we have to go to the Main Office first to get an official Ticket?

' src=

Hi Leon, a private tour depends on how long you want to have the tour. Mostly its around 3 hours. But if you want to have a private guided tour? Please contact me at [email protected] 🙂

ABout the bus, you need to watch out for what the ticket mentions. For example on Get Your Guide you need to go to the head office to get the tickets after all. You can also book tickets directly on their website. Easier.

Hello Glenn

Thank you for your website.

I am trying to find maps and a list of stops the Hop On Hop Off buses in Buenos Aires.

Is there anywhere you can suggest?

Thank you Bernie

Hi Bernie, I tried to create the map on my website because of the same reason. The maps you find on Google are outdated. The only thing they have are paper maps. But don’t have them right now with me :-/

This is Rakesh Shah from Atlanta, GA, USA. My wife and I will be in Buenos Aires 12 PM May 16 to 2 PM May 18.

Can you help us plan the itinerary to use our time best while we are in your beautiful city?

Hi Rakesh, thanks for visiting my website. I can recommend a private guide for two days to get the most out of your stay if you prefer?:-)

' src=

We are very disappointed. We bought the tickets and had to wait more than 1h to get in the bus. Next stop we had no possibility anymore to get in the bus. So we can’t recommend the busses

' src=

I will arrive AEP airport around noon time and like to take the tour bus in afternoon. Any way I can get on the tour bus from airport?

If I analyzed the map well there is no stop at the airport. It passes there but doesn’t stop.

' src=

Hi Glenn, I am a portena living in the US. My son and his bride are visiting BsAs next week. They asked me to prepare an itinerary for them. I am a bit at a loss because I know where I want them to visit but I don’t know how to design a schedule. Of course the Hop on Hop off is an important first step.

Any comments you can offer me? They’ll be staying in Belgrano.

My email is [email protected] Thanks a lot for all your help.

Hi Vera! Great that you contact me. I suggest downloading my phone app (available on Google Play and Apple Store). In the left menu you find day plannings 😀

' src=

Hi Glenn, Thank you for the information. Can we purchase tickets from bus driver or somebody at the Teatro Collon stop? Can they accept cash payment? We are going to be in the city only one full day. Which line would you suggest to see the most? Thank you. Roman

Hi Roman, you can buy tickets at the stand near the Obelisco. Normally cash and card payments are accepted. Both lines are more or less equal. The red line goes a bit further to the stadium of River Plate.

' src=

Hi Glen, FYI it looks like the prices have terribly increased as it is now 6000AR$ for 24h and 7000AR$ for 48h. Prices found on the official website. Is it normal ? Thank you! 🙂

Hi Alex, Still with 100% inflation in Argentina… this is a big price increase. I updated the page. Thanks for letting me know.

' src=

How do you recommend to purchase the bus tickets online? I tried and its saying my card is invalid, and its an Americancard. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Hi Christina, did you book online on the official website? Otherwise, Get Your Guide works too.

' src=

  • VonBadger 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Annoying Walked past a few of their bus stops on our first day and saw you could buy tickets on board the bus, which saved probably having to get something printed paying online. We got to Stop No. 5 jus after 10.00 the next morning, didn’t have to wait too long and got on the bus. Then the problems started… They don‘t take credit cards, only pesos! Virtually every small bakery or shop in the countryside, even some market stands, take credit cards, but not one of the big tourist attractions in the capital city! So, as we didn‘t have 60,000 pesos in cash, we had to get off the bus and find a bank. We then returned and managed to get on the next bus, which wasn’t very full and had room upstairs, although it got completely full by Stop No. 10. At some stops later on, there was not enough room and some people couldn’t get on. As per other reviews, the recorded text is OK but between commentary, it switches to very loud (and bad) music, so the whole bus turns the volume down until the next text and then turns it up again. Just annoying, but not as annoying as the bus changing route and going straight from Stop No. 10 to No. 14, missing out the other ones in the center of town, that we (and a lot of other people) wanted to get out at. The best was yet to come as at the next stop, they parked behind another (empty) bus and we were all told to get off and get onto the next one. We were lucky enough to get off relatively quickly and get another seat upstairs. Others weren‘t. One note if you are upstairs near Stop No. 18: Keep a look out as you will get a few low-hanging small branches in your face! Another small annoyance is that their website‘s online info on when the next bus is going to arrive is very inaccurate. Four minutes became 15-20 on a couple of occasions. Conclusion: Not that great anyway and just felt a bit disappointed with everything. Would probably take 5-6 Ubers and get everywhere quicker and cheaper. Read more Written March 4, 2024
  • Peter W 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Very happy with the yellow bus We got impatient waiting to buy tickets to the Greyline hop-on-hop-off bus took a punt on the yellow Buenos Aires hop-on-hop-off bus instead. They follow a similar route and share many stops. Each time we stopped, a yellow bus arrived for us before a red one, and at some stops there were people with tickets for the red one and they’d been waiting quite some time and the red busses were too full for them to get on. We had no such trouble. The audio commentary (we listened in English) was good and timed perfectly as we passed points of interest. Read more Written January 9, 2024

Felt totally ripped off, staff on the buses were extremely unhelpful, waiting for over an hour in several places and could not get on buses, avenida de mayo, awful, had to take a taxi in the end, at least a boca - caminito, it was horrendous with queues down the street, again waited hours only having to pay for a taxi in the end. We didn’t get an advance ticket as I had read here they sometimes are a problem. Well when we arrived we were told the tickets we’re all sold out and the manager couldn’t be bothered to Talk to a queue of people all upset including us. However it got worse as 5 busses all half full at most stopped and left, he didn’t care - they were sold out tough! • MannyG2000 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Wrong City for this Concept There are just not enough sites of general tourist interest to justify the hop-on hop-off concept in Buenos Aires. For about US$ 30 per head, you can go all around the city for a day. But don’t be fooled by the three separate routes covered by Buenos Aires Bus. Unless you are going to live here, at most you will be interested in two or three destinations out of the 30+ stops, and so you would be far better off taking taxis at about US$ 4 a trip, especially if there are two to four in your party. There are no compensating factors in the bus, which is inadequately air-conditioned, offers only the barest of audio commentary, has uncomfortable seats, and is often full of screaming, whining children. And most of the time you are in heavy traffic staring at bland city-scapes. Read more Written January 6, 2020

Sightsee Buenos Aires On A Double Decker

Yellow double Decker bus

The Yellow Bus. Hop-on hop-off Buenos Aires City Tour.

Whether you are visiting Buenos Aires for just a few days or a few months, you won’t go wrong by taking the yellow bus , or officially the Buenos Aires Yellow Bus , as your first activity to get a feel of the city. It is a hop-on hop-off tour service on a double-decker bus organized by the city government.

Since its inauguration in 2010, the route has grown from 12 stops to 33 stops plus a separate extension of a 5-stop northern route. With the expansion of its fleet, the buses run much more frequently too at every 10-20 mins. The bus route covers all the must-see spots in the city and the whole tour lasts around 3-4 hours depending on traffic (we are in a busy city after all!). Audio guide in 10 different languages with headphones are also available on board, so you know what you are looking at when you are passing them by.

tour buenos aires bus

If you have the time to hop off, definitely get off to walk around and explore more. Even if you don’t, after this bus tour, you can check off, if not all, most of the attractions mentioned in your guide books. The roof is always off during good weather, and on a sunny day, it’s really a perfect way to cruise around town and get a tan. If you like the rain, or not, you don’t have to cancel your plan to take the yellow bus either because they will put the roof up. No uncomfortable poncho raincoat necessary.

Buenos Aires is a very walkable city but there are also a lot to cover (I know because I have entertained many visiting friends and family during the pre-yellow-bus era). So, whether you’re already or soon-to-be in town, check out the Buenos Aires bus, it’s an enjoyable way to get (re)acquainted with this beautiful city.

Recently, especially on weekends, the buses were leaving full from the first stop at the pedestrian street of Florida. Obviously, the company released they had a huge demand for the service and did what many would do in the same situation, increased the price.

What was once a bargain 50ARS in 2010 ticket will now set back a foreign tourist 670 ARS or USD 33 per person. Personally, I think, if you are only in Buenos Aires for short amount of time, the big yellow bus is still a good deal for a three-hour tour of the city, just no longer the bargain it once was.

I took a four-week course at Vamos and was delighted with the experience. The course is conversation-intensive, which was incredibly useful given that speaking tends to be the most difficult skill.

Vamos Spanish Academy offers an outstanding educational experience. I spent a total of 12 exceptional weeks at the school.

I can also recommend highly the home stay feature of the course. I stayed with an Argentinian in the next suburb who only spoke Spanish, but who was very patient with me as I improved.

My Spanish improves by the hour! The staff and academic director do everything in their power to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
