“That’s better…”  Those were the first words muttered out of my mouth after my first strike with the UST Mamiya Proforce V2 Tour.  Like the Proforce V2 Black , I was testing the V2 Tour in my Cobra King F9 head that morning.  If I’m honest, I was struggling to adjust to the different shafts I was testing that day, but a more stout feel and penetrating flight were a good combination for me.  More importantly the Proforce V2 Tour was a much better fit for my more aggressive tempo and clicked in pretty quickly for me.

The UST Mamiya Proforce V2 Tour is a bit more of an attention grabber, albeit a good looking one.  UST went with a matte white base color with bright red graphics and a touch of black accenting.  It may not be the loudest shaft in the world, but you certainly can’t miss it.  Throw a cool red grip on there and you’re in business.

How Does it Feel?

There are a lot of similarities in feel between the UST Mamiya Proforce V2 shafts, however, the V2 Tour is definitely the firmest of the group.  Compared to the previously mentioned V2 Black, it’s fairly similar but the mid section is a bit more rigid in the V2 Tour.  I’d say the biggest feel points are that the tip stiffness is really noticeable, the mid section’s firmness, and the overall feel of being able to just let it rip.  The shaft will hold up to an aggressive swing.  Now often times, a shaft of that profile will feel a little dead.  The V2 Tour doesn’t feel that way at all.  If you’re able to load the shaft, there’s plenty of kick and strong feedback in your hands.   It’s key to make sure you have the swing for it though.  If you don’t, then you won’t get those feel points.

On-Course Performance

Here comes some full honesty here.  Going into this review, I had fairly low expectations of this shaft.  Historically, I’ve never totally mixed well with UST Mamiya shafts and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to tame the beast, so to speak.  I was proven wrong.  In fact, this data with the Proforce V2 Tour was the best I’ve had in all my testing with the new Cobra driver, albeit still somewhat limited.  As mentioned previously, I felt like I could really swing away so my swing speeds were higher .  For me personally, that usually will bring my spin rate and launch angle up a bit, but as you can see both were still down.  I love that 11.9º launch angle at this speed and spin!

The only thing I’ll say is that while I love my maximum performance with the V2 Tour, I felt like I had to be able to swing as hard as I can every time .  If I tried to take a little off or shape my shots, I had a hard time keeping up.  That’s on me though, not the shaft.  The reality is, I probably would be better off flexing down by a half to full flex.  When UST Mamiya says this is for the aggressive swinger, it’s 100% true.   There’s a reason this shaft is only available through TSPX fitters.  That’s because UST wants to make sure you have the game for it and it really meets your needs before you invest.  But man, when I’m clicking with this shaft, I like what I’m seeing…

Final Thoughts

My parting thought for this review is that the UST Mamiya Proforce V2 Tour really lives up to its claims.  You definitely need to have some power in your swing to tame it.   If you do, you’ll be rewarded with a piercing ball flight with good roll out from the lower spin.  As always, make sure you get properly fit to ensure you can actually optimize your performance with the Proforce V2 Tour.

UST Proforce V2 Shaft Overview

The UST Proforce V2 is a graphite wood shaft.

We weren’t super thrilled with the color scheme of this shaft. It has red lettering with a yellow border against a white backdrop – not the prettiest thing we’ve ever seen. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the feel of this shaft.

The UST Proforce V2 feels pretty stout overall. You can feel the stiffness of the tip section and on your downswing, you can feel that the midsection remains stable. However, this isn’t a dead-feeling shaft by any means. You get the feeling that you can load up as much as you want; but there is definitely a response.

This shaft will certainly keep up with aggressive tempos but you do get smooth feedback. That’s not to say that there is a ton of flex here; there isn’t. But the feel is commensurate with a high-quality graphite shaft. And in the end, that’s what the UST Proforce V2 is.

Why is the UST Proforce V2 So Popular?

One of the reasons that the UST Proforce V2 is so popular is because it comes in a variety of weights.

Even at the lightest weight  class, the UST Proforce V2 still feels stout and stable. So it’s easy to see why the UST Proforce V2 is popular among players with aggressive tempos.

How Does the UST Proforce V2 Perform?

One of the things that really surprised us about the performance of the UST Proforce V2 was that it produced controlled launch angles with controlled spin rates.

The spin rates were in the 2200 RPM range consistently with a mid-low launch. That’s not such a rare combination for a lot of premium shafts. What’s special though is that we were getting that launch and those spin rates when we really loaded up on the shaft.

Even our most aggressive swingers were staying within a nice launch window and were getting sub 2500 RPM spin rates. So to say that the UST Proforce V2 provides stability is an understatement. That being said, our slower swinging testers weren’t getting max benefit from this shaft. They weren’t getting optimal carry distance despite their best efforts.

The UST Proforce V2 has a stiff tip section so you can really feel your swing power go through the ball. This works really well for fairway woods and allows better players to thread the needle through narrow fairways. You get good control and workability – as long as you’re able to keep your swing speed high.

UST Proforce V2 Shaft Specs

What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.

The UST Proforce V2 is available in amateur, regular, stiff and extra stiff flex.

In reality, the UST Proforce V2 is ideal for fast swing speeds and fast tempos in pretty much any flex. Even at amateur flex, you’ll need to be able to swing your woods 80+ MPH.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The UST Proforce V2 is available in a variety of weights ranging from 56 grams to 86 grams.

Again, the lighter range (56g to about 66g) is still for moderate swingers (80+ MPH). The heavier range is better for aggressive tempos and 90+ MPH swing speeds.

Why is it So Good?

For us, the UST Proforce V2 was great at keeping spin rates down on very aggressive swings.

This will give heavy hitters the stability they need to maximize distance. The UST Proforce V2 also kept shot dispersion nice and tight on the same hyper-aggressive swings.

The first thing that stood out to us about this shaft was the stiff tip section.

You can feel your swing power move through the ball and the club head control allows for improved accuracy.

Who Should Buy it?

The UST Proforce V2 should only be gamed by players with an aggressive tempo and a swing speed above 80 MPH.

While this shaft is marketed as one that works for all tempos, our testers with deliberate tempos were struggling to get adequate distance from the deck and the box. If you are a strong swinger, expect low spin rates, straight shots, low-medium launch and a shaft that will keep up with you no matter what.

Overview/Technology-

The Proforce V2 from UST emerged on the scene and has been an extremely popular shaft, especially on the PGA Tour, since. Proforce V2 is designed for players seeking a flatter, more penetrating ball flight. The firm tip section produces a medium launch condition and increased ball speed. The shaft is known for its extremely low torque readings putting stability, consistency, and accuracy a premium.

The Proforce V2 definitely stands out in a crowd… you can easily recognize it on TV by the bright yellow and black. It’s a sharp looking shaft. Two of the players currently using the shaft include Rod Pampling and Davis Love III. Both have been a long-time user of the shaft with rave reviews.

UST claims the Proforce Tip Technology is the heart and soul of the shaft. The company engineers spent countless hours developing a proprietary method that earned desired launch angles and spin rates. Following the shaft introduction in 2005, the UST Proforce V2 has been one of the most popular shafts available on the market today.

Pros/Positives-

The Proforce V2 has unparalled stability and control. This is its strength and they’ve apparently passed the test as most all PGA tour players lay claim to control and consistency when playing with the shaft.

Cons/Negatives-

The only thing I could scrounge up negative about the shaft is it tends to feel “boardy” to some players.

Overall Rating-

Love this shaft so much, I put it on my 3 wood and my 2 hybrid ( the hybrid version of course). I can’t play this anything else anymore. You will increase your distance with this one just because you won’t be afraid to lose it left or right. The most accurate shaft I’ve played and the feel is perfect for me!

First tried a V2 in a hybrid (Reg 86gr) loved the shaft hated the head, so took out the head and put in a TM Rescue head 17º. A perfect combination!! Have done the same with my other 2 hybrids (19º and 22º). The feel is excellent, flight is straight down the middle, excellent shaft and have added plenty of distance.

My pro golf teached tried them last week – he hit 3 balls and was grinning from ear to ear!! He was totally amazed. Have also installed it in my 5 wood and it really goes some. Am now looking to install one in my driver – should have done it months ago!!

By the way I would say the flexes are about half a flex strong. My driver swing speed is around 99 – 102 and I’m going to install the Reg flex. It works very well in my 5 wood and hybrids.

Would highly recommend to many people. These shafts are NOT expensive and perform SOOOOOOOOO well

I was lucky enough to win this shaft on UST's Instagram feed a few weeks ago. I went with the 7F4 model and go it in last week, put a TM adapter on it and got to testing this week with the TM M5 driver head. Here are some of my thoughts.

If you are looking for clean, simple shaft graphics design, look no further. The PROFORCE V2 Tour CB features blue and white graphics with a bit of a shine to it. The colors look great outdoors in the daylight. Both the white and blue colors are bright and vibrant, but are in no way distracting when addressing the ball or swinging. The fonts used on this shaft really draw me in. The large V2 logo looks great, and really goes well with the white section of the shaft towards the butt section. The paint has somewhat of a rough finish, which is a nice change from most other shaft offers with the normal smooth finish.

STABILITY, FEEL, AND PERFORMANCE

Unfortunately, the only local Trackman was not available for testing currently, so driving range and on-course testing were used. When testing the 7F4, a few first impressions jumped out. The tip stiffness was a bit stiffer than most shafts I have played in the past, including my current Fujikura Pro73 gamer. At first it felt a fit harsh, but the more I swung, the better the feel at impact. I found it helped better feel the club face at impact, and know exactly where the strike occurred, which was welcomed feedback. The counterbalanced feel of the shaft was another noticeable feature of the shaft. Many new drivers feel head heavy these days, and the PROFORCE V2 Tour CB shaft really helped even out the swing weight for me.

The typical ball flight from the shaft was a mid launch, penetrating draw. I am typically a higher ball flight player, and the PROFORCE V2 Tour CB did lower my flight slightly compared to the Fujikura Pro73. The lower spin on this shaft was evident from range and course use as the roll out was longer than the current gamer. I had a similar carry distance, but found I got around 5-10 yards of additional roll out, which was extremely great for me at the home course. There was a bit of wind during testing, and the shaft had absolutely no issues with ballooning. The flight was on a preferred launch line, and had a draw biased line, while penetrating through the air without much continued lift.

When will prices on this shaft drop? The ProForce V2 is only $59.99 but the CB version is $190. Really? I play counterbalanced shafts and want to try this one. Looks like it’s only offered through TSPX fitters too. Why?

SST PURE identifies asymmetries that exist in every golf shaft and locates each shaft's most stable orientation. This results in more consistent performance and uniform feel from club to club.

Tip Prepping - $2.95

Shafts are tip trimmed (if required) to manufacturer’s recommendations. For steel shafts, we abrade the tips. For graphite shafts, we remove the polyurethane coating. When you receive your shaft, all you need to do is mix epoxy, install and align. After the epoxy is cured, cut to your final playing length from the butt end and install the grip.
