Travel Guide

  • # 3 in Best Places to Visit in Mexico for 2023

Cozumel's clear turquoise waters and powdery sands coax travelers from cold winter climates to this relatively small island off the coast of Playa del Carmen along Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula.  Cruise ships  are a constant feature of Cozumel's coastal views, and the atmosphere on this charming island is often interrupted by tourist chatter. In fact, Cozumel's charms are so effective that the shopping plazas and eateries along the waterfront stay congested much of the year – especially during the day when several huge cruise ships are in port at once.

Where to Stay in Cozumel

The top neighborhoods.

  CENTRO SAN MIGUEL DE COZUMEL

San Miguel de Cozumel is the heart of the island and the largest city. This is where the majority of hotels and restaurants are located, and it’s a very walkable town. You’ll find San Miguel de Cozumel, also known as Centro, is on the west coast of the island, roughly centered between the north and south. This is where the Cozumel Airport (COZ) and the ferry to Playa Del Carmen are also.

  NORTH HOTEL ZONE

There are a number of resorts and beachfront hotels scattered along the island’s western shore in the North Hotel Zone, just north of town. While most of the all inclusive resorts are in the South Hotel Zone, there are several great beachfront hotels and resorts in the North Hotel Zone as well. Accommodations located in this neighborhood are close to the airport and a short taxi ride (or long walk) to the town center. This also makes restaurants and shopping in town very accessible.

  SOUTH HOTEL ZONE

The South Hotel Zone is a hot spot for the major all inclusive resorts and beautiful nature reserves such as Chankanaab and Punta Sur. The south hotel zone is significantly outside of the town center, so renting a car or taking taxis will be necessary to get around the island. This is a great area to stay in if you are looking to avoid the city and just enjoy the spectacular nature and peace. There are many beach clubs and snorkeling areas in the South Hotel Zone, as the sea here is part of the Marine Preserve.

My husband and I took a vacation to Cozumel for our anniversary and stayed at Secrets Aura Cozumel. We had such an enjoyable time. The restaurants were all great and the pool was relaxing. Thank you for adding this hotel to your list.

Thank you for these great suggestions. My family and I are going to use this guide when looking for places to stay on our next vacation in Cozumel.

Happy to help. Enjoy your visit!

We decided to go on an adults only getaway with our family members and I am so glad I found your post. It was so easy to choose our resort based on your info here. Thank you. We ended up at the Explorean and it was perfect.

A friend recommended we look at your site before booking our hotel and after we read this post we decided to stay at an all inclusive. You make each place sound phenomenal so it was difficult to make a choice but we just booked the Cozumel Palace and are looking forward to our trip. Thanks for your help!

The one thing we wanted was to stay at one of the famous all inclusive resorts in the Yucatan, after searching through so many different websites this was a great find. Helpful in every way. I am sure this post will be a lifesaver for many others as well. Cheers.

The all inclusive resorts in Cozumel are some of the best in Mexico – as you might expect on a picturesque island with turquoise water and white sand!

While Isla Cozumel can easily be visited as a day trip from Playa del Carmen, we recommend staying a few days and relaxing in luxury at one of these all-inclusive Cozumel resorts.

The island is home to some of the most upscale lodgings you can find in the region, so there’s no shortage of amazing Cozumel all-inclusive resorts and this post will help you find just the one perfect for your next unforgettable vacation.

Apart from the stunning white-sand beaches and turquoise waters that make Cozumel a gem of the Yucatán Peninsula, the world’s second-largest reef system makes it a unique spot for scuba diving.

But Cozumel is not only for divers, there are so many things to do and snorkeling spots, for all kinds of adventure lovers or for those who love to bask in the sun and enjoy the perks of an all-inclusive hotel.

Cozumel Beach

Whether you’re looking for a memorable beach vacation or want to go for a once-in-a-lifetime diving experience, Cozumel packs everything from breathtaking beaches, and diving sites, to shops, restaurants, exploration, and a lot more things to do while staying here.

That only leaves the question of having a grand stay, and all-inclusive resorts are every bit as grand as it gets. So, without further ado, let’s dive into my picks of the best resorts in Cozumel.

The Best All Inclusive Cozumel Resort

It’s difficult to pick just one, which is why I’ve detailed 14 of them below, but if I had to pick, I would say the Presidente InterContinental is the best for its private beach, while Cozumel Palace excels in luxury and hospitality. My personal favorite, however, is the intimate The Explorean.

Read more details on each of those Cozumel resorts, and 9 others, below to see which is the best for you!

1. Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort

Aerial view of President intercontintental one of the best all inclusive resorts in Cozumel

Starting our list with the very best, the Presidente Intercontinental is one of the few all-inclusive resorts in Cozumel with a whole private beach for its guests.

The resort belongs to the IHG chain of hotels and resorts, known for luxurious suites and rooms along with a refined experience in the form of delicious cuisines and amazing service.

The resort consists of 218 suites and rooms, each one featuring tastefully modern furnishings and offering exquisite views of the mesmerizing waters of the Caribbean sea and delightful indoors of the resort.

With an endless list of amenities, including superfast wireless internet, flat-screen TVs, minibars, coffee makers, and interiors mixing contemporary designs with Mexican accents, the lodgings prove very upscale and modern while still maintaining a home-like feel.

Inside the Cozumel Palace suite

Cozumel Palace is another grand oceanfront all-inclusive resort famous for its gorgeous suites and rooms. The resort is every bit as splendid as its name suggests, so if you enjoy being surrounded by luxury and unparalleled hospitality, you’re in for a pleasant surprise.

The resort comprises some of the most luxurious guest rooms you will find in town, with each spacious suite featuring double whirlpool hot tubs for you to relax in.

The fine-dining experience of Cozumel Palace is also quite remarkable, with four different on-site restaurants serving mouth-watering cuisines from around the world.

All-inclusive Cozumel Palace Hotel Pool

The immediate surroundings of the resort might not be much, but since Cozumel Palace is close to a lot of popular sites, many of the island’s attractions and diving shops make up for it, and you can also have the staff arrange tours and diving trips for you.

The treatments offered by the spa here are also worth a mention. The Cozumel Palace is perfect for a relaxing vacation, especially if you want to fill it with lots of water sports and touring.

3. Iberostar Cozumel

Iberostar Cozumel Overview

Iberostar is a very large and upscale all-inclusive resort on the shores of the Caribbean, with Playa del Carmen right opposite it. The 306 bungalow-style lodgings of this resort are very unique in their design and surroundings.

Since Iberostar is a chain of hotels focused on preserving the essence of the region its hotels are situated in, their Cozumel resort features a touch of Mexican architecture and tradition. The surroundings of the guestrooms are also very natural and refreshing.

With a location ideal for both seeing around town and getting a wonderful scuba diving experience, the historical Mayan sites, amazing nightlife, and everything else offered by Cozumel is just a short distance from you.

Melia is a relatively smaller all-inclusive resort located on one of the most beautiful Cozumel beaches . The resort blends its home-like vibe with the exquisite beauty of Santa Pilar Beach to make for a very gorgeous oceanfront stay.

All of the luxurious splendor of Melia Cozumel is displayed in its amazing suites. The idyllic suites have all the amenities of modern lodging, along with some featuring whirlpool tubs on terraces, unlimited golf or free spa credit, and many other such services.

The rooms in Melia Cozumel are very spacious and clean and feature minimalistic interiors, so expect comfortable and simple lodgings perfect for taking in the views of the ocean. Melia also has two pools with fabulous ocean views, one of which is adult-only and features cabanas beside it.

Melia cozumel aerial view

The many restaurants and bars of the resort are focused on the all-inclusive philosophy followed by the hotels’ chain, so expect some of the best food and services during your stay here.

Tours and watersport activities are quite frequent, so you can have some arranged for yourself during your stay here. Rest assured, the management is pretty good at taking care of the planning while you relax and enjoy your vacation.

8. Fiesta Americana Cozumel

Fiesta Americana Room

Fiesta Americana Cozumel is another relatively small but intimately designed all-inclusive resort on my list. The smaller size only means a better experience in terms of the luxury and quality of your stay.

The oceanview and pool rooms of Fiesta Americana are complete with lavish furnishings, charming decors, and modern luxuries. The furnished balconies of these rooms offer views of the ocean, while some rooms have terraces with pools.

The restaurants of this all-inclusive resort each specialize in a different cuisine, making your overall experience remarkable.

Fiesta Americana’s services and amenities are some of the best, with a full-service spa, game room, kids club, fitness center, gift shop, swimming pool, on-site ATM, and all the facilities of a 5-star resort available to you.

The spa offers modern treatments as well as ones inspired by Mexican traditions, and you will also have the option of hydrotherapy to rid you of any stress and fatigue, making your stay filled with relaxation and healing.

Fiesta Americana has a very nice location, with the cruise port just a few minutes from it, and is surrounded by the lush jungle on one side and the blue waters of the Caribbean on the other. This natural beauty is complemented by the hotel’s modern interiors.

9. The Explorean Cozumel

The Explorean Cozumel pool

Just behind the Fiesta Americana, and owned by the same parent company, is The Explorean Cozumel. But what makes this all-inclusive special is its entire focus on travel and scuba diving, so if you’re all about those two, this is the resort for you.

It is actually my favorite all-inclusive hotel in Cozumel.

Surrounded by the jungle, The Explorean features 56 rooms, each one very unique and incorporating the rich nature around the property in its interiors.

The Explorean is a more intimate property compared to its neighbor, but you will have access to the restaurant, pool, and beach of Fiesta Americana during your stay here. The on-site restaurant and bar are pretty good, too.

The focus on exploration isn’t only in the resort’s name, The Explorean includes so many activities like archeological site tours, jeep tours of the island, water sports, and more in the price for your room.

The Explorean also has lots of on-site experiences, ranging from connecting with nature, swimming in the pool, getting treatments at the spa, and much more.

10. El Cid La Ceiba Cozumel

El Cid La Ceiba Cozumel overview

Located very near the Cozumel downtown is the El Cid La Ceiba resort, and it features some of the most amazing rooms for lodging.

The suites at El Cid La Ceiba are large and modern, and smaller rooms with fully-equipped kitchenettes are attached to each one, giving your stay an upscale touch. You will have air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs in them, and views of the ocean as well.

Adjacent to the jacuzzi is a swim-up bar where you can couple your swimming with unique drinks and double the enjoyment of your day. There are also two man-made beaches at the property to complement the two towers of the resort.

The beachfront of El Cid La Ceiba features a gorgeous waterfall and has a snorkeling area as well. Across the street, many of Cozumel’s restaurants and shops are within walking distance of the resort’s guests.

El Cid La Ceiba

The all-inclusive and partial-inclusive packages of this resort are divided into tiers, so your services and freebies will depend on the tier you purchase. I recommend going all out because the lower tiers aren’t as enjoyable an experience.

The resort is practically next to the cruise port, so you will also see many day-pass guests around during your stay, which might not prove a relaxing experience on very busy days.

11. Cozumel Resort by Wyndham

Wyndam Cozumel Resort

Wyndham Collection hotels are widely popular, and the Cozumel resort belonging to this chain is no exception. Just a short distance from the city center, the Wyndham Cozumel Resort is a luxurious hotel perfect for a fun-filled stay on the island.

The rooms of Wyndham Cozumel Resort feature luxurious interiors accentuated with subtle touches over pristine whites, and each one has air-conditioning and balconies. The interiors of the resort have similar decor.

The spa treatments of Cozumel Resort by Wyndham are some of the very best, so you can get that stress massaged away any time you like. Or, if you feel like taking a dip, the outdoor pools at the resort are also quite nice.

The Wyndham Cozumel Resort also features a beach club, and a gym to keep you fit and healthy regardless of your indulgences at the amazing restaurants there. Nightly live entertainment is another aspect of a delightful stay at this resort.

Many shops and restaurants are nearby, and the city’s nightlife, as well as deep-sea experiences, are easily accessible from the property, and the on-site tour desk ensures you get to explore the island to your heart’s content.

12. Sunscape Sabor Cozumel

Sunscap Sabor Cozumel pool

Sunscape Sabor is an AMR collection resort in Cozumel, and it’s pretty popular for a family visiting the island. With refined rooms, tons of modern amenities, and unimaginably fun activities for kids, it’s the ultimate vacation destination on the island.

There are 218 rooms and suites for guests here, and every one of them is luxurious, to say the least. You will have minibars, safe deposit boxes, and televisions included in the room price, and the exquisite wooden furnishings are a cherry on top.

There are three on-site restaurants here, one of which is a buffet restaurant, and the remaining two are formal restaurants serving amazing food. You can also grab great drinks from the three bars of Sunscape Sabor.

The kids get to enjoy hotel-issued passports, red-carpet receptions, and lots of treats to make their experience here special and memorable. For you, the spa and outdoor pool are there to take care of all your distress and worries.

The gorgeous white-sand beach of Sunscape Sabor is only for the guests staying here and it’s the longest strip of beach, so that’s another pro for an ideal family trip.

There are also kids’ and teens’ clubs on the property.

The use of snorkeling and kayaking equipment is completely free from the on-site dive shop at Sunscape Sabor, which means getting the best of Cozumel’s famous underwater experiences.

13. The Westin Cozumel

Westin Cozumel Overview

The Westin is a beautiful optional all-inclusive in Cozumel with elegant suites and guest rooms. Both the property and the beach it is located on our pristine and white, with plenty of spacious rooms for a comfortable stay.

The indoors of Westin are furnished with elegant interiors and designs, and there is a pool, fitness center, sun terrace, and on-site restaurant for the guests to enjoy.

Rejuvenating treatments offered at the Zazil Spa of The Westin are made special with air-conditioned cabins featuring ocean views, and guests have access to the sauna, steam room, polar pool, and jacuzzi as well.

Because of its focus on luxury and comfort, The Westin is rated very highly when it comes to the top all-inclusive resorts in Cozumel, Mexico.

Westin Cozumel aerial view

The service at Westin Cozumel is incredibly good and the friendly staff is always there to accommodate your needs with a smile on their faces.

Last but not least is the culinary experience offered by the restaurants here, ranging from the Caribbean to Mediterranean cuisine including signature dishes for a renewed sense of joy for your tastebuds.

14. Secrets Aura Cozumel

Secrets Aura Suite Cozumel

One more AMR collection all-inclusive on my list is an adults-only resort in Cozumel. This one is definitely my pick for a romantic vacation for couples.

Secrets Aura is truly a Caribbean oasis with its ultra-luxury suites and world-class amenities. Each one has a private balcony or terrace, the decor is very elegant, and the modern amenities of a five-star lodging are all there.

The interiors combine wood, stone, and marble to create an exotic style of interiors, blending the aesthetics of Secrets Aura’s surroundings with comfort and space.

The flowing pool at Secrets Aura is another one of the resort’s unique amenities, where you can take a refreshing swim with the turquoise waters of the Caribbean in your view.

Secrets Aura’s surroundings consist of nightclubs, shops, restaurants, and many activities like snorkeling, diving, golfing, and touring the archeological sites are very nearby.

If you have a car rental, the resort also offers free parking spaces for its guests.

Cozumel Mexico Resorts FAQs

If this is your first trip to Cozumel or your first time staying at an all-inclusive resort, you may have a few more questions as you plan.

What does all-inclusive mean in Cozumel?

All-inclusive resorts in Cozumel include your hotel room, food, and drinks all in one price. Note that the price is typically per person and not per room as it may be in a standard hotel. Each resort offers different dining and drink options. Some are available anytime, as much as you want, while some fancier restaurants may be reserved to 1 meal per X days (usually 3 days). Additionally, top-shelf liquor is usually an extra charge as well.

Some resorts go above and beyond and include activities like diving and snorkeling. Some also have free nightly entertainment, kids’ programs, and more.

Is it worth paying for all-inclusive?

It depends on whether you take advantage of the activities food and drinks the all-inclusive resort has to offer. I am not much of a drinker for example and I prefer a la carte eating to the buffet.

Also, I would be all day out exploring. So for me, it wouldn’t be worth it.

But for other people, it would. It really depends on what kind of vacation you are planning to have.

What is the average price for an all-inclusive resort in Cozumel?

Prices for an All inclusive resort in Cozumel range from 130 USD to 350 USD per person per night.

How much should I tip at an all-inclusive resort in Cozumel?

Normally the expected tipping % goes from 10 to 20 % but it’s difficult to determine in an All inclusive hotel where everything is basically included.

I would just leave 50 MXN a day in the room for the housekeeping staff and 100 MXN at the restaurant if you feel the service was exceptional but you are not expected to tip there.

How many days do you need in Cozumel?

This is a billion-dollar question. It really depends on the activities you have in mind. However, to see the most beautiful parts of Cozumel you may need 3 full days when you can drive around the island, take a diving trip , or a Cozumel boat trip , relax in one of the Cozumel Beach Clubs , and enjoy the spectacular views on the east coast.

👉 Also, check out the top Adult-only all-inclusive resorts in Cancun

What do you pay for at an all-inclusive resort?

Usually, in an all-inclusive resort, everything is included, from the room to the drinks and food, and non-motorized watersport activities. In some hotels like Secret resorts, even scuba diving is included.

What is not included are the following activities: motorized watersports, premium drinks, diving (sometimes) spa, transportation, and tours.

Is Cozumel better than Cancun?

It’s really hard to say. They are equally beautiful destinations and yet very different. Saying which one is better is very personal.

However, you can read about their differences and similarities in my detailed blog post Cancun vs Cozumel .

One of the best all-inclusive family resorts in Cozumel is the El Cozumeleño Beach Resort , a mid-range resort set on one of the largest stretches of sand in the area.

The property has 252 rooms but the decor isn’t really the highlight of this resort.

Instead, its location, the private pier that offers rides to Playa del Carmen, and the host of activities that are offered by the property are the reasons why it works so well for families.

You can make the most of the diving lessons given at the pools — for free — while the kids enjoy some time at the kids’ club.

There is also mini-golf and a gaming arcade, but babysitting will cost you extra.

If you are in the mood for some adventure the staff at El Cozumeleño will be happy to arrange scuba and snorkeling expeditions closeby.

These include the basic rooms and suites, meals during your time on the property and activities for the family in the set price that you pay.

Ideal for people who prefer the feeling of a cozy, authentic vacation destination rather than a large chain of hotels, this hotel is close enough to San Miguel for you and the family to walk down to town for a short shopping spree or dinner.

Vacationer’s Guide

Comparing resorts: which one is right for you.

Choosing an all-inclusive resort can be a daunting task.

But we should always remember that each resort offers unique perks, and it’s important to compare them before making a final decision.

El Cozumeleño Beach Resort is a popular choice for travelers on a budget.

This resort offers excellent value for the money with its extensive amenities, including a pool, beach access, and a variety of dining options.

But, some guests have noted that the resort is a bit outdated.

On the other hand, the Cozumel Palace is an excellent choice for those looking for a more luxurious experience.

With its world-class spa, gourmet dining options, and breathtaking views, this resort is perfect for couples or those seeking a romantic getaway.

However, the price point may be a bit high for some travelers and doesn’t give you direct access to the beach.

Lastly, the Royal Club at Occidental Grand Cozumel offers an outdoor pool and a kids’ club.

However, its location may be too secluded for some travelers.

For those who want to experience the best of both worlds, IBEROSTAR Cozumel offers a perfect balance of luxury and affordability.

How I Picked The Resorts

As a seasoned travel writer, I have a lot of experience in selecting the best resorts for my readers.

Firstly, I extensively research different all-inclusive resorts, reading reviews from past guests and checking out their amenities and services.

Once I have a list of potential resorts, I also reach out to locals about any insider tips they like to share.

This comprehensive approach helps ensure the authenticity of my review, bringing you the most reliable and informed guide possible.

Our Resort Rating Method

I rate these properties based on the following criteria:

  • Kid-friendly Activities: I use this to evaluate the availability and variety of family-friendly amenities at every resort. Does it feature water parks, playgrounds, and kids’ clubs? Does the resort organize events designed specifically for kids? I ask myself these questions whenever I rate kid-friendly activities.
  • Family Accommodations: This is used to assess the family accommodations of the resort. Are the rooms spacious? Does it offer family suites with connecting rooms? Can it accommodate families of different sizes? Is there a crib or baby-proofing in every room? These questions are essential whenever I rate family accommodations.
  • Dining Options: This evaluates the dining options at the resort. Are there kid-friendly menus or buffet-style dining at the resort? Can the on-site restaurants cater to everyone’s dietary preferences and needs? I use these questions to assess the dining options of every property.
  • Safety and Security: I use this criterion to assess the safety and security of the resorts. Are there lifeguards at the swimming pools? Are the premises secured? Is the staff trained to handle any emergency? I consider these factors when rating safety and security.
  • Value for Money: This is used to evaluate the value for money of every resort. Are the room rates reasonable? Are the services, activities, and amenities suitable for the price? I ask myself these questions to rate the value for money.
  • Location and Accessibility: This measures how accessible the resort is for families. How far is it from the popular family attractions? Is it easily accessible via public transportation? Does it offer airport transfers? These are the questions I ask myself when evaluating the property’s location and accessibility.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Cozumel

Cozumel, a frequent cruise stop, is a Mexican island in the Caribbean. Along the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, it’s popular for snorkeling, scuba diving, and visiting Mayan sites. For those travelers heading to Cozumel wanting to simplify their vacation by eating at the on-site restaurants and utilizing hotel-offered activities, all-inclusive resorts are a great option. Here’s a list of our favorite all-inclusive resorts in Cozumel!

voyage all inclusive cozumel

Cozumel Palace

Cozumel, quintana roo, mexico.

The Cozumel Palace is a largely upscale though relatively small oceanfront resort situated on the west coast of Cozumel island. Its location means super-easy access from the ferry port and it is close to local amenities -- though the immediate area isn't particularly attractive. Rooms are impressively spacious with large spa tubs, sea-view balconies, and plenty of free liquor. Service is a real highlight with friendly staff providing excellent poolside attention and round-the-clock room service, while dining options are adequate. Although the resort caters to kids, the focus is far more on couples, and the beach is small and man-made, so families looking to spend some time on a postcard-perfect stretch of sand might want to look elsewhere.

Melia Cozumel Golf – All Inclusive

The Melia Cozumel is a mid-range all-inclusive resort located on one of the best beaches in the North Hotel Zone and across the street from a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. It features 147 spacious rooms with furnished balconies and marble bathrooms with shower/tub combos -- but decor is a little bland, and technology could use an update in some units. There are several dining options on-site, two pools -- one of which is adults-only and has a swim-up bar -- a kids’ club, and a small spacomplete with a fitness center.

El Cozumeleno Beach Resort

El Cozumeleño is a mid-range all-inclusive resort located directly on a long, narrow beach in northern Cozumel. Its 252 rooms are no-frills and some have dated technology, but all units are spacious (especially those in the original building) and have furnished balconies with ocean views. The pools are the highlight here (one has a popular swim-up bar), but golf is also draw due to the resort's location across the street from the island's only golf course (guests get discounted rates). Breakfast and lunch are pretty average, but dinner is tasty and the menu changes every few days. Overall, the hotel is a solid pick for families and value travelers.

Iberostar Cozumel

The 306-room Iberostar Cozumel is an all-inclusive, mid-range family-friendly resort that is a haven for scuba divers on the southwestern coast of Cozumel, with the world’s second largest coral reef just off the resort’s beach. The beach is rocky, but a pier extends past the surf, and guests can use ladders to reach the water for world-class swimming and snorkeling. The Iberostar Cozumel is unique for a big all-inclusive in that the rooms are in rustic, bungalow-style buildings with private decks or balconies, each with its own hammock. Occidental Cozumel

The Occidental Grand Cozumel is an upper-middle-range, all-inclusive hotel on a nature preserve at the southern end of Cozumel. The white-sand beaches are gorgeous, and the incredible offshore reefs make for memorable snorkeling and diving adventures. The resort has Hacienda-style circular buildings built around fountain-filled courtyards and decorated in bright shades of red, yellow, and blue. Rooms are no-frills with flat-screen TVs and stocked minibars; some touches are quaint, if a tad dated, like patterned bedspreads. There are six restaurants and four bars. The resort also has three big pools, a hot tub, tennis courts, fitness center, spa, and kids' club. Evening entertainment includes a disco with dancing. There is a pesky fee for Wi-Fi.

voyage all inclusive cozumel

El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel

El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel is a three-and-a-half pearl resort that seems to offer the best and worst of an all-inclusive beach vacation. Deluxe Rooms, which need updating, and Suites, which are spacious and pleasant, are divided between two buildings connected via the lobby that overlooks the outdoor pool and beach. Guests can choose between different tiers of all-inclusive packages and are required to wear a wristband so staff knows how to charge them. Upsides include excellent snorkeling right off the beach, an on-site dive shop, and outdoor massage hut. Downsides are rowdy day visitors, a 10-minute drive to San Miguel, and annoying time-share pitches. Your best bet for a seamless vacation is to book a non-tower Suite, pay for the upgraded all-inclusive package, and forget about checking email anywhere other than the lobby.

A nice family vacation

sll23 (Fremont, Michigan) on Jun 27, 2024

My husband and I stayed here for a week with our 2 teenage sons, and we all had a great time. We had 2 rooms in building 16. While they could definitely use some updates, the rooms were clean and comfortable. We did have issues with water backing up in the toilet and showers due to all the rain, resulting in us not being able to shower or use the toilet. This happened at least 3-4 times during our stay. I was concerned about the reviews regarding the lack of AC, but our rooms stayed cool enough for us with the temperature ranging from 22-23 Celsius. We had the thermostat set at 21 and it never got that cold. The restaurants were always too warm and had tons of leaks in the ceiling. The food was decent, and we were all able to find plenty to eat. Service was good at all the restaurants and bars. However, the main pool bar could use more bartenders, as the line was always long. It’s definitely more adult oriented, and they didn’t have a ton for teenagers to do, especially after dinner. This wasn’t a big deal to us, but could be a problem for some. Overall, it was a great trip, and I would likely return.

Different type of resort

Mark E on Jun 19, 2024

Set in a jungle vibe, the resort is large and spread out. You will get plenty of steps in but beautiful, scenic walk ways. Rooms are nice but a/c struggles to cool them down. In room refrigerators are slightly better than worthless and only one building’s ice maker worked. Rooms are stocked with a couple Corona and Corona Light beers, but bars only serve Modelo. Pools are very nice and kept clean. In fact, the property is kept nice overall. Just need more maintenance work.

More About Cozumel

The island of Cozumel is a kinder, gentler version of Cancún. It has its fair share of big resorts, but the streets aren't quite as chockablock with tourist traps. The world's second-largest barrier reef lies just off the coast, which makes this a top snorkeling and diving destination. A few Mayan ruins provide what limited sightseeing there is (aside from the island's glorious natural attractions). On the mainland is Playa del Carmen, a charming beach town that's the unofficial capital of the Riviera Maya, a string of beaches that is quickly becoming the next big destination. As you head south toward the ruins of Cobá and Tulúm, you'll find tiny fishing villages as well as a couple of ecological reserves. A few well-placed resorts mean that this area isn't entirely off the beaten path, but some areas are quite secluded.

Sargassum/Seaweed Advisory

Sargassum is a free-floating seaweed that is especially prolific in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. While beneficial to ocean life, these large free-floating seaweed mats often wash up on beaches. The amount of seaweed on the beaches fluctuates based on the time of year and ocean currents. While resorts do their best to maintain the beaches for their guests, you may experience some inconvenience during your stay.

Top Experiences

Scuba Diving : Explore the world-famous 20-mile Maya Reef, where a profusion of fish and other underwater creatures reside. Underwater enthusiasts are drawn to the clear water, abundant marine life, and exquisite coral formations.

Taking in the Culture : Watch beribboned traditional dancers at the annual Feria del Cedral festival, one of the island's most colorful celebrations.

Partying, Local Style : Join the locals at the Plaza Central in San Miguel on Sunday nights for music and dancing that has more in common with the Caribbean than Mexico.

Exploring : Ride a jeep along the wild, undeveloped eastern coast. When you get hungry, stop for a picnic at any of the secluded beaches.

What makes cozumel good for all-inclusive vacations.

The island of Cozumel is perfect for travellers looking for fun at the beach with opportunities for exploration under the water's surface. This Mexican island is famous around the world for its dive sites and proximity to the splendour of the Mesoamerican reef system, the second-largest of its kind in the world. All-inclusive stays here make it easy to take advantage of the extensive diving opportunities or simply relax at the beach, so it's easy to customise your vacation as you see fit.

What are some of the best regions for all-inclusive vacations in Cozumel?

Cozumel isn't all that large compared to a lot of other destinations, and anywhere on the island is fairly easy to access from anywhere else. Still, you'll want to make sure you book your stay in the right area to get the most out of your all-inclusive trip. The central area around San Miguel de Cozumel, however, is one of the most perfect spots for families and other travellers who are just looking to relax during their stay. Plus, the shore is on the west side, so local beaches are excellent for watching sunsets.
