Time

Are you ready for the trip of a lifetime? Cruising in the Kimberley serves up eye-popping beauty at every turn.

A rarely visited, ancient and pristine coastline, this slice of Western Australia is often referred to as one of the world’s last great wilderness areas. It’s a wonderland of secret waterfalls, rare birds and confetti-like islands.

Accessible by boat from Broome, Wyndham (via Kununurra) Darwin and Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm on the Dampier Peninsula, the epic journey is worth the effort . Whether you’re seeking a sophisticated atmosphere with butler service or an action-packed activity focused itinerary , there are a bunch of excellent Kimberley cruises out there.

1. The Great Escape Charter Company

Family-owned and run,  The Great Escape Charter Company  has a custom-built 26-metre luxury catamaran, MV Great Escape , which caters to just 14 lucky guests across seven stylish staterooms.

Kimberley Expeditions - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (2024)

Cruise Passenger

My Kimberley coast cruise secrets, by Australia’s best known expedition leader

Australia’s kimberley coast has a magnetic effect. once you’ve visited, you’ll long to return to discover –  what lies in the next bay, what awaits at the end of the next gorge or what secrets are revealed on the walls in the next cave. ponant’s expedition leader, mick fogg shares what he discovered..

Often referred to as the “Antarctica of the tropics” it’s the pristine environment, massive scale and remoteness that gives rise to the comparison. The ancient landscape is the epitome of a sunburnt country, the vast plains and rugged red sandstone gorges are quintessentially Australian and like nowhere else.

kimberley coast cruise reviews

It’s almost impossible to identify a favourite location along the coast. It’s what makes it such a remarkable voyage. Each destination is unique and has its own character that changes daily, driven by the largest tides in Australia. However, the ancient stories written in stone depicting traditions and legends are timeless. The aboriginal rock art heritage of the Kimberley is on a scale second to none, with in excess of a million sites. Here you can find the greatest collection of outdoor galleries in the world. I have worked with the traditional custodians of the land for more than ten years, watching the wonder in the faces of our guests as they bring to life the images drawn by their ancestors.

Mick Fogg examining the Gwion Gwionrock art

The most ancient of rock art styles, Gwion Gwion, is a minimum of 12,000 years old and as the dating technology improves it continues to reveal paintings of an even earlier origin. During our Kimberley Coast expedition magnificent examples of Gwion Gwion and Wandjina style rock art can be seen at Ngula (Jar Island), Warrabii (Swift Bay) and Ngumburi (Raft Point).

The spectacular 90-meter high sandstone cliffs of the King George Gorge are a definite highlight. The colours and textures of the gorge change with the light as you travel further up the river creating a continual changing wallpaper of passing scenery that is simply stunning.

The Hunter-Roe river system is lined with ancient rainforest pockets, pristine mangroves and mosaic sandstone cliffs. They are amongst the most pristine mangrove forests in the world, supporting a rich and diverse fauna. Our fleet of zodiacs, piloted by experienced and knowledgeable guides, are a perfect way to experience the diversity of life at close quarters.

There are many reminders of the bygone era of exploration. At a high tide, on a warm September afternoon in 1820, Phillip Parker King ran ‘His Majesty’s Cutter Mermaid’ onto the sands of Careening Bay for urgent repairs. During the ten days that the crew worked hard to re-float the vessel, the ship’s carpenter carved the name of the vessel and the year into a nearby boab tree. The tree is now 3 metres wide and National Heritage listed.

The King George Gorge by Nick Rains

The “Horizontal Waterfalls” are an iconic location and a great example of the massive tidal movements the Kimberley coast is renowned for. For me, the most amazing tidal phenomenon is Montgomery Reef. Having been lucky to visit ‘Monty’ more than 100 times I still cannot adequately describe this natural wonder, words simply don’t do it justice, you have to see it at least once in your lifetime. Imagine 400 square kilometres of reef emerging from the ocean before your eyes. First, the ocean appears to bend, then the edge of the reef appears, and the water starts to run.  As the tide drops further, raging torrents of water cascade off the reef forming rivers that stretch across the sea. There are days when the tide is dropping more than three centimetres a minute as the reef rises from the ocean, it is mother nature at her best.

Another remarkable aspect of the Kimberley coast is the birdlife. As you travel along the coast there is a noticeable lack of birdlife, yet just offshore, many islands are teeming with resident wading birds and migratory shorebirds. Places like the Lacepede Islands, only 25 kilometres from the coast, are home to the world’s largest breeding colony of Brown Boobies, over 20,000 roseate terns, 20,000 common Noddies, 3,000 bridled terns and a multitude of other species have also been recorded. It is a stark contrast to the barren cliffs and gorges of the coast.

It is the diversity and pristine nature of the destinations that make a Kimberley coastal expedition a truly memorable experience. From Ancient Landscapes, ancient cultures and ancient reptiles to spectacular scenery, unique tidal phenomena and amazing wildlife a Kimberley coast expedition has something for even the most ardent traveller.

Kimberley waterfall Experiences with true north cruise

Kimberley coast cruises 2024

The very best of two destinations.

An adventure that combines the very best of two equally stunning destinations – the Kimberley coast and the Rowley Shoals! In the beginning your vista will be framed by layers of ancient geology and then your every moment will be awash in the vibrant colours of a coral wonderland. See all of the coastal icons and then immerse yourself in one of the world’s most-rare habitats!

This itinerary is provided as example only – prevailing conditions, local arrangements and indeed, what we discover on the day, may cause variation. Helicopter flights can be purchased additional to the indicated tariff as a package or individually. Please refer to the sailing schedule to determine if this itinerary is available on the TRUE NORTH or TRUE NORTH II.

Welcome Aboard

Welcome Aboard

Join our coach transfer in Kununurra – your “welcome aboard” the magnificent TRUE NORTH will be in the frontier town of Wyndham. Embarkation is at 1700 – time for a cocktail with your fellow adventurers before departing at approximately 1830. Dinner is served shortly after leaving port and then it’s an overnight steam to the King George River.

The King George Falls

The King George Falls

As soon as the tide is high enough, we’ll cross the sand bar at the mouth of the mighty King George to reveal a breathtaking river vista. Our journey upstream will take us to the very ‘jewel in the crown’ – The King George Falls. Here we anchor at the base of the Twin Falls and you will find endless places to explore. Take the helicopter to the top of the falls for a Kimberley highlight. In the afternoon discover the wreck of the Koolama and take a stroll in Tranquil Bay.

Eagle Falls

Eagle Falls

Today you will have an opportunity to see the “Bradshaws” – ancient rock art that pre-dates other examples of Aboriginal culture. In fact, they are possibly the oldest ‘paintings’ known to man. The heli-picnic at Eagle Falls is always a ‘big hit’ - another breathtaking helicopter flight and, TRUE NORTH’s mouth-watering fare alongside a picture-perfect waterfall in remote far-north Western Australia! The tenders will be busy exploring the local beaches and rivers and, we also visit an isolated site in the rainforest where a lone bomber crashed during WWII.

The Mitchell Falls

The Mitchell Falls

The Mitchell River is renowned for big barra and even bigger crocs! The adventure boats will head up river to scenic Surveyors Creek – a great place for a swim (no crocs here!) The fishers will stalk the elusive barramundi and there will be more opportunities for helicopter flights over ancient land including the spectacular Mitchell Falls! Then, join the crew for cocktail hour before experiencing another unique dining experience.

The Hunter River

The Hunter River

Wake this morning in the magnificent Hunter River. The Hunter is about as far away as you can get in Australia – a stunning river system that is lined with dense mangrove forests and surrounded by rainforest encrusted mountains. And, the Hunter has it all - fishing, mud crabbing, birdwatching and simply exploring “where few have been before!” Join one of our adventure boats for a closer look, it’s a challenging hike to Jackson Falls and, there’s even more splendour from the helicopter! In the afternoon we will sail into Prince Frederick Harbour and enjoy sunset drinks on picturesque Crystal Beach – enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres as you watch the sun descend on another action-packed day in the Kimberley!

Melaleuca Falls

Melaleuca Falls

Be amongst the first on deck and join an early morning fishing expedition, see more stunning rock art or join the ship’s naturalist in one of the adventure boats – all before a breathtaking helicopter flight to another picnic to remember – this time at beautiful Melaleuca Falls! Then join us for our pearl and diamond party! Enjoy a glass of bubbly whilst trying on exquisite pieces created by the artistes at Allure, Jewels of the Kimberley and Kimberley Fine Diamonds.

King Cascade

King Cascade

The scenery will astound and there are some not to be missed fishing spots as the TRUE NORTH graces the majestic Prince Regent River. At King Cascade we manoeuvre the TRUE NORTH right under the falls. Then it’s time for more ‘adventure in the tender’ – a chance to stretch the laces on your hiking boots and an opportunity to swim in yet another picture perfect billabong, or perhaps you’d like to venture further upriver to visit the spectacular ‘Amphitheatre’ waterfall. And the helicopter will be popular again when the first group of intrepid explorers returns from Jurassic Park!

Montgomery Reef

Montgomery Reef

It’s time for some hot fishing action at Three Ways. Then join guest and crew alike for a moderate walk to Ruby Falls and be rewarded with a refreshing swim in the large natural rock pool.

You will probably be enjoying lunch as we weigh anchor and set sail for Montgomery Reef! Montgomery is a unique ecosystem that must be seen to be believed – and see it you will – as 140 square miles of coral reef rises out of the ocean right before your very eyes! Water cascades from the reef as the tide falls exposing a privileged glimpse of another world! Turtles, dugong, manta rays and every imaginable sea creature abound, and the helicopter again puts all in perspective!

The Charnley Gorge

The Charnley Gorge

Even more high adventure today – the opportunity to ‘ride the tide’ through spectacular Charnley Gorge, to where the salt meets the fresh – is one of the Kimberley’s most hand-picked experiences! This is especially so if you then get a chance to sight-cast ravenous barra as they wait for the tide to spill into their billabong home away from home! Jacks, fingermark and threadfin will also be on the ‘list’ before returning to the TRUE NORTH for your overnight cruise to the magnificent Rowley Shoals!

Clerke Reef

Clerke Reef

We will arrive early at glorious Clerke Reef.

Sample the fruit platter and maybe indulge in a cooked breakfast before discovering the atoll’s huge lagoon and extensive outer reef. Snorkelers and divers will marvel at the crystal-clear waters teeming with life – clouds of fish and corals of every imaginable colour and shape. There will be plenty of opportunity for beachcombing on Bedwell Island, relaxed snorkelling in tropical waist deep water, world-class SCUBA diving on the outer reef or perhaps some “catch and release” lagoon fishing using eco-friendly tackle. Our qualified and experienced crew will be on-hand to personally introduce everyone to the delights of this pristine environment. When you’re not on excursion, relax on-board TRUE NORTH and indulge in our renowned cuisine – the alfresco bar and lounge will definitely be ‘the spot’ to witness your first spectacular Rowley sunset.

Nature's Aquarium

Nature's Aquarium

Start the day with a visit to the Aquarium! Forget the Great Barrier Reef – this is world-class snorkelling at its very best! Even if you’ve never put your head under water before – this is an absolute must. The water is only waist deep however the experience is literally “out of this world”! Brilliantly coloured corals, giant clams and more than 600 of the world’s most beautiful fish species at your fingertips! Don’t forget your underwater camera!

After another sumptuous lunch we’ll “crank-up the action” with something unique – high-speed snorkel drifts through the outer reef! Again our friendly crew members will be on hand to ensure that everyone gets to try this once-in-a lifetime experience – as many times as you like! Our anchorage tonight is in the “swimming pool like” waters of Clerke Lagoon – 300 kilometres off the coast of Australia!

Close Encounters

Close Encounters

Another day in paradise and now it’s time to experience the thrill of snorkelling on the outer reef! Outer reef snorkelling is a totally different experience – the sheer coral walls will take your breath away!

Close encounters with humpback whales, manta rays and sailfish are also on the agenda. Finish the day with sunset drinks on the beach and one of our famous Island Parties! Then it’s back to the ultimate comfort of TRUE NORTH and another perfect night in Clerke Lagoon – 360° stars reflected in a glassy ocean!

The Outer Reef

The Outer Reef

By now you will be addicted to snorkelling on the outer reef and your wish is our command! We’ll spend the entire day exploring the outer reef of this remote and untouched wilderness.

Then all too soon, it’s time for our overnight steam to Broome. Re-live what is guaranteed to be an experience of a lifetime as the Rowleys merge into a blazing western sky! Join the crew at the Captain’s Party and then enjoy “the best sleep of your life”.

Transfer to Broome

Time to Book Ahead

Hear from someone who truly knows about the value of booking ahead. “Cheggers” has travelled on the TRUE NORTH more than anyone else!

True North Sails into 30 Years

True North Adventure Cruises - has sailed into 30 years of continuous operations. The now revered adventure-cruise operator first cruised Western Australia’s remote Kimberley coast during 1987 when founding director Craig Howson commenced fishing type charters along a coastline that was and still is largely inaccessible from land.

The Helicopter

Adding another dimension to the adventure, most cruise options on the TRUE NORTH feature an on-board helicopter! Carrying guests in air conditioned comfort, the ship’s helicopter provides unique opportunity to witness grandeur; unique opportunity to fish billabongs that have never been fished; unique opportunity to discover your very own wilderness!

Myles Pollard's Fishing Adventure

There is nothing better than a day out on the water, especially when the fish are biting! Fishing on-board the TRUE NORTH is a much-favoured activity both with guests who have never picked up a rod before and, with those who have "caught them all!” Our guides encourage everybody on-board to “give it a go” and the TRUE NORTH’s multiple adventure boats never fail to bring back a swag of ‘fishing tales’! Stories about the ladies who out-fish the boys are pretty common, humorous equipment failures also come to note on a regular basis, then there are the ‘birthday fish’, the ‘monster fish’ and of course, the ones that got away! Our guides have seen and heard it all! Watch the video to find out more about actor Myles Pollard's fishing adventure!

TRUE NORTH Impresses Again

The TRUE NORTH has once again impressed on the world stage coming second in the 2020 Traveller Made Brand Storytelling competition. Traveller Made is Europe’s largest travel consortium and its members represent the very best in luxury travel providers and suppliers. The group’s inaugural Brand Storytelling competition was an opportunity for leading travel brand’s to showcase “the story behind their brand” and, the competition attracted entries from some of the world’s most respected travel brands. In such esteemed company, True North’s marketing team was especially pleased to receive this additional acknowledgement.

Adventure En Plein Air

West Australian artist Jacob 'Shakey' Butler joined the TRUE NORTH earlier this season and discovered the Kimberley's raw beauty. As the artist in residence, Jacob set up his canvas on remote beaches, beside freshwater billabongs and on-deck surrounded by pindan-coloured gorges. Watch the video above to hear Jacob describing how the Kimberley inspires the art of adventure.

Catriona Rowntree Talks With Craig Howson

A commonly asked question is “When is the best time to see the Kimberley?” And the answer is “The Kimberley is always at its best!” However certain times of the year can make it easier to satisfy particular interest. For example, if you would like to see plenty of whale action then departures in August and September are definitely for you! From late July humpback and southern right whales reach the Kimberley after swimming-up the west coast to reach breeding grounds in the north and it’s very common for guests to get great views of whales breaching and basking on the surface.

kimberley coast cruise reviews

Loved the flexibility of the team to accommodate everyone’s interests and to get us to incredible places!

The best and most sustained performance I have encounted. It  was such a joy to feel the whole crew’s enthusiasm for their job and the love of the environment they were showing us!

They were such excellent ambassadors for KIMBERLEY QUEST II!

We would personally like to thank the whole KQ team for assisting my husband to participate in as many activities as possible. Our expectation was that he would have to spend large amounts of time on the main vessel due to his mobility issues, this couldn’t be further from the truth, the team found a way to make almost everything work! This has easily been our best holiday ever.

Beyond expectations, everyday brought new experiences and highlights. We loved the mixture of activities on offer. Loved the table decorations, sunset drinks and fire on the sandbar, all  the crew were magnificent and should be commended as they added to our exceptional experience. Laundry, bed turn downs, drink service etc were all appreciated and made us feel so well looked after.

The staff on this trip would have to be the best we have ever encountered on any trip. Really amazing. The way they made sure everyone could participate in everything, helping the ladies who didn’t think they could climb up that rock or cast that line. It was actually really nice to watch. The knowledge they all had of the area was amazing & they are all just really down to earth. You have a great ship but really the staff are without a doubt your greatest asset.

This is our second cruise with you. We are still thrilled with the standards you provide in all aspects of the cruise. Staff helped to make the experience special.

Cannot speak highly enough about the cruise. The crew were so friendly and efficient. The boat is in excellent condition, the food is exceptional and the itinerary was everything we could have wished for.

This was fabulous, we’ve had the best time. Thanks to all the crew, you made our trip one we will never forget. The Kimberley Coast is more stunning than I ever imagined
I took 2131 photos. It’s going to be one big book!

Crew were very well versed on the environment and history of the areas we visited. They all felt an affinity with the localities. The crew went beyond the call of duty to make our holiday one of the best ever.

We could ask any questions and seek to modify the itinerary. I loved the early morning bird watching. Magic.

Having worked on outdoor experiential programs, some with Youth at Risk, I always quietly look for safety issues and leadership.

Your crew are amazing. Relaxed and thoughtful, but I could see the care and experience and I always felt safe. I could also see the great respect for being on country. It was a privilege to see the art and learn more about First Nation culture.

The skills and knowledge of ALL the crew was fabulous.

A special thank you to ALL the crew for going ‘above and beyond’ to make sure everyone was so well cared for. Nothing was beyond them, from the most experienced to the newest crew member. Quite sad to be leaving them and KQ

What a fabulous 14days adventure touring and experiencing our wonderful KIMBERLEY. Under the guidance of our Captain, the staff did everything possible to make this a safe and memorable cruise that we look forward to recommending to family and friends.

Amazing boat, food and environment. Great crew with local knowledge.

Don’t think about it, do it!

Outstanding crew bar none – Outstanding food – Outstanding itinerary – Unsurpassed scenery and amazing waterfalls!

Loved loved loved the 21 day cruise!

Can’t fault it. The boat was really comfortable, the entire team friendly and committed to their role and the scenery and excursions were beyond our expectations.

The care and consideration taken for our every need was exceptional I can’t say how much I enjoyed the company and fellowship from staff and crew, We will remember these guys for a very long time!

We would love to thank the crew for their professionalism and friendliness. Nothing was too much for them. This cruise was certainly a highlight for both of us who have travelled to most countries and extensively. Australia has so much to offer!

“Loved the entire experience. Wonderful way to see unique part of Australia. We have travelled across all seven continents. This cruise was up there with the very best.”

Staff have been exceptional. They worked extremely hard throughout the entire cruise to ensure our cruise experience is bespoke and five plus stars. Food has been delicious and so much of it! Thank you Chef for creating a varied and delicious menu each and every day. Loved the daily itinerary and how it accommodated the requests of the group! Can’t thank the Captain and KQ team enough.

Best cruise staff and chef we could have wished for, we have travelled the world and this hands down has been the best scenery and best staff.

This cruise has surpassed our wildest dreams and made my 60th birthday trip a trip of a lifetime and one to remember.

EVERYTHING from day 1 to the very end. Amazing adventure made particularly special by the crew who were all exceptional.

We have travelled the world extensively, the crew were knowledgeable and respectful of there surroundings and nothing was a problem they worked very well together congratulations to them !

Exceptional all round. Crew were all incredible from start to finish. Cannot praise them highly enough.

Would love to be able to do it all again but for us this has been our trip of a lifetime. Way beyond all expectations. Incredible. Thanks guys

Every aspect of this trip has been arranged and conducted very professionally with safety foremost. All clients were helped to participate in any activities they were keen to do. The staff are lovely and nothing was any trouble to them. The meals were amazing. the total experience absolutely awesome.

This is my first cruise and it has been absolutely fantastic. The bench mark has been set very high! Thank you all the staff on the Kimberley Quest. This has been a trip of a lifetime.

Under the Captain’s outstanding leadership all the crew displayed exceptional commitment and willingness to provide the best possible experience for guests. They went over and above in every area of experience delivery. Accolades to all.

Well done Kimberley Quest. Outstanding! Thank you so much. Cherished lifetime memories.

It was your People-Office-Capt+Crew that made this Trip Special.

We enjoyed the intimacy & attention to the small details by the staff which made the experience special -Thank you to all on board – Food fabulous as well!

The level of expertise and luxury on board is above expectations. All of the staff were so accommodating and professional and we were made to feel very special. The food was outstanding and would certainly book again.

Staff have been so obliging & professional, skipper picked up on guests interests & tailored itinerary to suit!

Loved the whole experience with a small group and helpful, dedicated staff who obviously enjoy and take pride in their work. Would love to come back for another trip, when the timing and itinerary suits!

One of our best holidays ever. The staff are amazing, the landscape wild. We did & saw things we had not previously experienced!

How do you rate perfection!

Loved every minute of every day . Such full exciting days. One fabulous activity to the next but for those who wanted a quieter time it was relaxing and peaceful if you choose that.

The crew were faultless . Lovely young people who took on the role of caring for our welfare with enthusiasm and professionalism. They were always there with a helping hand and a lovely smile . They could never do enough.

Great staff, great boat, great local knowledge, great food, great time!

Outstandingly run operation. The team working in sinc, like clockwork. The balance of activities so wonderfully thought out. Nothing was too much trouble and then there was more, we couldn’t believe it. We loved every moment.

Always telling my family and friends it’s one the best holidays l have done and l have traveled to a lot of places in the world . Thank-you for a fantastic holiday with a great group of people .

Great botanist on board, incredible enthusiastic fishing guides, the relaxed atmosphere and extraordinary cuisine, open bridge, seriously polite and attentive house keepers, and above all relaxed and fun staff have made this a ripper cruise. Thanks all crew on our cruise… you all nailed it! You are a credit to the KQ team, thank you.

Loved it all – The crew were perpetual motion, nothing was too much trouble, food was outstanding. We have had an absolute ball, the crew and the passengers were loads of fun so sorry it is over!

An unforgettable experience, made extra special by being looked after so well by a welcoming, professional crew.

Amazing, exceeded all expectations, every day held the right mix of adventure and relaxation. I can’t express how impressed I am with every staff member, the culture and absolute professional and fun spirit lead by the Captain made the holiday!

I really enjoyed the whole experience from the itinerary which was tailored to suit. The whole experience was amazing, particularly the King George falls which was absolutely amazing!! The tender excursions were great, something different every day and on most days we would experience 3 or 4 different locations! All the crew gave 100% to all the guests on the cruise and their attention to detail cannot be faulted. Amazing chef, all his meals were presented on time and amazing. The food that he delivered was top class, amazingly tasty, made me waiting for more!

Have never been on a trip and been so spoilt. All the crew were amazing…went beyond there duties.

I can’t speak highly enough of the wonderful crew, totally made the trip!! Thanks a million.

It was a wonderful way to explore an area of the country that is not easily accessible.

Often you go on holiday and the experience isn’t anything like the brochure or website. However, every single day on KQ we were consistently amazed by how much “better than the brochure” everything was. This trip truly exceeded our already very high expectations in every aspect.

Congratulations on a fabulous experience. Exceeded our expectations. You deserve your awards!

Have travelled extensively and have to say that this has probably been one of the best travel experiences ; the crew, without exception have been amazing, hard working and both professional and friendly. I am particularly grateful for the consideration shown my elderly mother and my dietary requirements which can often be tricky. In all honesty, from the office staff to the crew, I have no complaints at all; On the contrary, I am extremely impressed. Just as impressive were the ship and facilities- 12 out of 10.

This has been if not the best, equal to any other experience I have had in my 72 years of life. Initially thought expensive, but now feel worth every cent & more, thank you sincerely for the opportunity to experience the Kimberley’s, we are hooked!

A huge thank you to every single staff member for their amazing service, coming from management of a service industry, would kill to have these guys work for me!

Absolutely fantastic and would recommend to all our family and friends.

Again our thanks and heartfelt appreciation to every crew member whom extended a hand to scramble over a rock, provided information on the flora, fauna and history of the area, smiled early in the morning and last thing at night.  The girl’s ensured the rooms were immaculate and well stocked and I appreciated the personal insights the crew all shared on their lives and what lead them to be working on Kimberley Quest, it added such a personal touch to our trip.  Bill enjoyed the fishing and we were both impressed with the skill and confidence displayed by the crew responsible for the Express and tenders.

There aren’t enough adjectives to describe how wonderful this experience was-from the warmth & efficiency of all the crew to the extraordinarily comfortable facilities on the boat, the mouth watering cuisine served at every meal & the incredible off boat experiences all done with the safety & well being of all the passengers of uppermost importance.

The crew made this trip memorable! They rocked!

The professionalism and friendliness of the staff was outstanding and a credit to themselves and the business

Absolutely every aspect of the trip was sensational. We were very grateful for the small boat, guest numbers and knowledgeable crew.

The most integral part of this cruise was the most amazing landscape that the excellent crew were able to share with the entire guest group. The connection and meeting the small guest group was more than we would have hoped for, as every single person comfortably embraced all. The staff became our friends, which was very special, we will certainly miss their expertise, attention to detail, passion and warmth exhibited to all the guests. Jeff gave all guests the most amazing time with his info and passion of the entire Kimberley area we travelled. We will forever treasure this trip and the forward friendships we have made, made complete by the best Cruise we have ever experienced. Thank you to all involved at the Kimberley Quest.

KIMBERLEY EXPEDITION CRUISES

Welcome to the otherworldly Kimberley. Tucked along the northwestern corner of Australia, the Kimberley is one of the world’s last wild frontiers, from rugged sandstone peaks and gushing waterfalls, to desert expanses, sunken mangrove forests, and everything in between. Cruise through Montgomery Reef as the tides rush out, leaving sea turtles dotting their heads in its midst. Search for a lustrous, masterfully cultivated pearl on a local pearl farm. Splash through the spray of King George Falls, or take to the skies in an amphibious Mallard aircraft to watch tawny sharks swim below. Better yet, engage with the original land-owning communities and their cultural rites, including guided showings of the unique Gwion Gwion artwork they have curated for centuries.

Crystal-clear waters and gleaming pearls aside, our Kimberely expeditions stand out to guests who want to travel Australia, but also desire to expedition off the beaten path. Whether you are a well-seasoned traveler, wildlife enthusiast, natural history buff, or are simply seeking a new adventure in one of the most pristine places on Earth, experience this unique corner of the world with Seabourn.

King George Falls

Prepare for the highlight of your trip, cruising with our Expedition Team on a ZodiacŸ to explore the highest twin waterfalls in Western Australia. This stop is full of beautiful, secluded beaches and tiny islands to explore. The real draw, though, is seeing the Gwion Gwion or Bradshaw rock art galleries that cover walls and caves in the area. Take a ZodiacÂź ride to Jar Island to see some of the oldest art in the world. Your Expedition Team will give you an interpretation of the drawings and a look at the fascinating history that accompanies them.

Montgomery Reef

Contemplate the raw transformation of the world’s largest inshore reef as you witness it appear and dip beneath the surface in some of the biggest tidal changes on Earth. 7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024

I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.

After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary

Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.

The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.

Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.

Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises

The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.

What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.

Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.

Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.

SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing

Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.

SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.

Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.

Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage

Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .

Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.

Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).

Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises

Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.

Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.

Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.

The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.

New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia

Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.

In 2022, Carnival announced its Costa by Carnival concept after revealing it would be transferring ships from its Costa sister brand to the Carnival fleet. Now, when travelers visit the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse or check out the island's renowned pink-sand beaches during a sailing on Carnival Venezia, they can enjoy both the Italian style of the ship and Carnival's fun atmosphere and high service standards.

Details: Voyages kick off on May 22, 2025. Prices start from $429 per person ($108 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a four-night cruise departing Sept. 18, 2025.

Disney Cruise Line's Lighthouse Point itineraries

Disney Cruise Line 's new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , a private destination on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, is set to open in June with a three-night preview sailing on June 6 aboard Disney Magic. Following the initial voyage, the line will run regular three- to seven-night voyages to Lighthouse Point on Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.

The island will feature a dedicated family beach and water play area, an arts and culture pavilion focused on Bahamian culture, 20 family cabanas, an adults-only beach and a selection of shore excursion options.

Details: Prices for itineraries that include Lighthouse Point start from $624 per person ($208 per person, per night) for a three-night cruise on Disney Magic. The cruise departs Nov. 5 and sails from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
