Whether you’re meandering along the pristine sands of Cable Beach on camelback, delving into the lustrous world of pearl farming, or marvelling at the natural spectacle of the Horizontal Falls, Broome’s tours promise to enchant and inspire.

The tranquil ride offers unparalleled views of the sun dipping below the horizon, casting the sky in hues of orange and purple. It’s not just a tour; it’s an iconic Broome tradition. Broome’s coastal waters become a sanctuary for the majestic humpback whales from June to September, making whale watching one of the most awe-inspiring tours you can experience in this region. Tips for Planning Your Broome Adventure

Planning your visit to Broome with a few insider tips can transform a good holiday into something extraordinary. Here’s some advice to ensure you make the most of your time in this stunning part of Western Australia.

Best Time to Visit: Broome basks in a tropical climate, with the dry season running from May to October, offering sunny days and clear skies – ideal for exploring and touring. The wet season, from November to April, brings rain and higher temperatures but also the beauty of the landscape coming to life. For those keen on whale watching or enjoying the natural spectacle of the Staircase to the Moon, timing your visit around these events is crucial.

Booking Tours: Broome’s popularity means tours can fill quickly, especially in peak season. It’s wise to book well in advance to secure your spot, particularly for unique experiences like camel rides on Cable Beach or scenic flights over the Kimberley.

Pack Wisely: The sun in Broome can be intense. Bring a high SPF sunscreen, a broad-brimmed hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself. Lightweight, breathable clothing is best for the daytime, while a light jacket or sweater can be handy for cooler evenings, especially on the water or during desert nights.

Stay Hydrated: The warm climate necessitates staying well-hydrated. Carry a reusable water bottle with you, as many places offer refill stations. Keeping hydrated is particularly important during outdoor activities and tours.

Local Etiquette: Broome has a rich cultural history and a diverse community. Showing respect towards local customs and traditions enriches your experience and fosters mutual respect. Listen to and follow the guidance of tour guides, especially on cultural tours, to ensure sensitive and respectful engagement with Indigenous heritage sites and communities.

Beyond the Tours – Making the Most of Your Broome Stay

I do wish we had more time at Busselton and missed the Margaret River Township. The latter was boring. Most shops shut by the time we got there. Very Ho Hum! I wished they had postcards at Busselton(of the pier) and Cape Leeuwin. The Mammoth Cave very interesting. Read more Written 25 April 2024
  • evelynw147 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A great tour, which stands out for good reasons The booking process was easy and the communication before the tour was great. Pickup place was extremely convenient and pickup was punctual to the minute. I had done a very similar tour some years ago, but the visit to the big and beautiful limestone cave was new to me. I had enjoyed the Busselton jetty and Cape Leeuwin, so I looked forward to refreshing the memories. There were changes in the places and differences in the itineraries, but the most important difference was our guide/driver Jonathan. He knows so much about the history, geography, biology and traditions of the country. His love of the land and the environment is palpable and he has a great sense of humour. I shall remember this tour with fondness. Read more Written 23 April 2024

Everything ran smoothly and this was all thanks to our tour guide Evan. Evan provided so much information on the way and way back from our stop off’s which was interesting and beneficial. All of the stop offs were stunning to look at and we were able to explore and photograph each with plenty of time. Myself and my partner loved this trip and it was so worth the drive. • MatAndGo 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Memorable experiences but not too much time for Pinnacles I regret to rate this experience with only 3 stars due to a significant letdown; our time at the Pinnacles was a mere 30 minutes due to schedule delays. The rest of the tour, including Caversham Wildlife Park and the exhilarating sandboarding, was enjoyable, and the lobster shack served a delightful lunch. However, the brief stop at the Pinnacles meant we had scarcely enough time to disembark and snap a quick photo of the nearest formations. It’s unclear if this rush was to manage the various tour groups efficiently, but the limited time to appreciate the stunning geological wonders was truly disappointing. • Aus4545 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles A Pinnacles trip, In Which You Spend Virtually No Time There. Please don't waste your money on this trip. I can honestly say the worst organised trip ever, I have never seen so many people upset and angry. It all stems from not having the regular driver, spent double the time at the wildlife centre, the result is less than 30 minutes spent at the Pinnacles, it should have been an hour. Majority of this trip is spent getting there and back, if you have a hire car go yourself, it's dead easy to get there from Perth and you will have a lot more time at the Pinnacles. The Stargazing is done in the Pinnacles car park. This trip is all smoke and mirrors, and leave a big hole in your pocket. Read more Written 10 March 2024
  • Lollastewart 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Don't miss this fabulous experience A long tour but well worth it. Everywhere is far in WA and, when you have a personable and informative guide like Zac, the miles go by quickly enough. Super comfy coach and good food at dinner time, two refreshments stops . The mysterious pinnacles were fascinating, sunset beautiful over the Indian ocean and and star gazing was gobsmackingly wondrous. I'll never forget seeing distant galaxies. Worth every cent. • 169hermant 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles An amazing experience with one exception Our tour guide Jamie was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and was able to point out all of the high points of the tour. We did have a semi-urgency on the bus which resulted in the AC going out while it was over 100° outside. Jamie did his best to accommodate everyone and show genuine concern. I really appreciate the way he handled the situation. Otherwise, the tour SELF was phenomenal. I really enjoyed the pinnacles, kangaroos, koalas, and lunch was amazing. Plenty of opportunities and plenty of time to rest and relax during the bus ride. You will see plenty of desert and countryside. You will also see ocean Shores. The part of the tour that I think needs to be revised or even omitted, is the chocolate factory portion towards the end. It is completely pointless and feels more like an arranged money grab. No one was interested in chocolates. The time spent traveling there could’ve been spent exploring somewhere much more memorable. My recommendation is to choose a tour without the chocolate factory. Another option is for the company to do away with it altogether. Otherwise, even with the chocolate factory, you will have an amazing time. Read more Written 23 February 2024
  • K2966SIsebastianv 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Full day tour well worth the time This is an amazing tour to do if you’re unfamiliar with the area. It’s a fantastic ‘sampler’ type tour to figure out what you’d like to come back and spend more time exploring in the Margaret River region. It runs almost 13 hours over 350km visiting mammoth cave, brewery/distillery restaurant lunch with wine, beer and cider tasting, Busselton Pier, Cape Leeuwin lighthouse with knowledgeable local guides. Time

Drag yourself away from the beach for the day on a Broome tour and you’ll be rewarded with some truly amazing experiences.

This seaside country town might be small, but it has a mighty history and even mightier modern-day experiences. To really understand how it came to be – from its multi-cultural food scene to its wild pearling history – these Broome tours are a must.

Be sure to contact tour providers before you go, as tours can be very dependent on the weather and the seasons, thanks to rapidly changing tides.

1. Broome And Around Tours

First things first, get situated and familiar with Broome on a Panoramic Town Bus Tour with Broome and Around Tours. Do this right at the start of your trip to get all the local knowledge on where to eat, where to find local art, secret swimming spots and a good overview of the fascinating and brutal history of Broome.

2. Mabu Buru Broome Aboriginal Tours

Your second stop should be Mabu Buru Broome Aboriginal Tours for the Cable Beach Cultural Talk with local Yawuru, Karrajarri, Nyul Nyul, Bardi man, Johani. Meet on the famous Cable Beach where he will walk you through some local Indigenous history and customs, a song performance, and he’ll even help you find the hidden-in-plain-sight dinosaur footprints left in the rocks. More than a tour, however, this is a conversation during which Johani creates a safe space for asking, learning and sharing.

3. Red Sun Camels

Have you even been to Broome if you didn’t ride a camel? It may be an iconic tourist activity, but it’s also a whole lot of fun. There are multiple tour providers who will line up along the beach in the mornings and at sunset, but our pick is Red Sun Camels for their friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere and camels that are far less smelly than some others (trust me on this one).

4. Moontide Distillery Tour

While there are a million gorgeous views to stop at on tours around Broome, beverage aficionados will be pleased to know Moontide Distillery is leading the way in craft liquor, even boasting a few awards for their unique gin flavours – like The Pearler’s Gin, crafted with actual oyster mantle. Take a tour to see the behind-the-scenes action, or just have a tasting with nibbles.

5. Matso’s Brewery Tour

Speaking of craft brews, Matso’s Mango Beer is a staple on the taps of pubs around Western Australia, and it all started in Broome. A brewery and a restaurant, you can book in for a tour and then sit down to an award-winning lunch.

6. Broome Tours Mudcrabbing Adventure

To brag about catching your own dinner, you can join a Mud Crabbing Adventure with Broome Tours. Follow your guide through the mangroves of Roebuck Bay on a hunt for the prized Kimberley Mud Crab, then cook up your catch for the freshest of seafood lunches. Be prepared to get dirty as you leave the catamaran and wade in shallow water, and also be aware that this tour is weather dependent.

7. Broome Tours Sunset Cruise

Join Broome Tours for the mud crabbing, but stay for a Sunset Cruise along Cable Beach to catch the shoreline from a different perspective. Broome subsets have not been overhyped, and an unforgettable way to experience it is with a beverage in hand, being served snacks, while sitting on the back of a 42-foot catamaran.

The crew know many Broome tours require concentration, so they’re here to bring the chill vibes and relaxed fun – you can even go swimming in a boom net off the back of the boat (April to early October).

8. Salty Plum Social

Thanks to the unique immigration history in Broome, it’s an unexpected foodie haven. Locals are more than happy to offer up their favourites, but a Small Bar Walking Tour of Broome’s historic Chinatown with Salty Plum Social is the perfect way to hit all the best spots in one afternoon.

Eat, drink, walk and talk your way through the town, discovering the truly unique background of the area, stopping along the way for drinks and canapes.

9. Horizontal Falls

Described by David Attenborough as “one of the greatest natural wonders in the world”, the Horizontal Falls near Broome are caused by the rise and fall of the tides, as water rushes to get through two narrow gaps into the seas beyond.

Join Horizontal Falls Adventures to see this phenomenon from all angles – from your seaplane flight into Talbot Bay, to a jet boat ride through the falls themselves and even a swim with the Tawny Sharks that call this area home.

There’s a huge range of tour options, from day tours to the brand new luxury overnight epic during which you stay aboard The Jetwave Pearl and get to see this incredible part of The Kimberleys at all times of day.

10. Pearl Luggers Tour

If you don’t have time to visit Willie Creek Pearl Farm 38 kilometres north of Broome, you can still get an insight into the wild history of pearling in Broome on their Pearl Luggers Tour , located in Chinatown. Hold a pearl, taste pearl meat, hold original diving gear and even see a fully rigged and restored pearl lugger, originally built in 1903.

11. Broome Dinosaur Adventures

Before there were people in Broome, there were dinosaurs, and you can’t leave without discovering the evidence they left behind. Journey across Roebuck Bay with Broome Dinosaur Adventures’ Dinosaur Adventure Tour . Explore secluded bays, creek inlets and beaches to find 120 million-year-old dinosaur tracks, with cocktails, of course.

You’ll need a moderate level of fitness for the walking portions of this tour and be sure to pack your reef shoes. Tour dates depend on the tides.

12.  Greg Quicke’s Astro Tours

See far beyond Broome with Greg Quicke’s Astro Tours , which focus on what’s said to be some of the best stargazing skies on the planet. Using massive telescopes and lasers, guests will see planets, galaxies and moons visible from both the southern and northern hemispheres due to Broome’s proximity to the equator.

For two to three days a month between March and October, you may even get to see the phenomenal ‘Stairway To The Moon’, caused by a full moon’s reflection rising over the mudflats of Roebuck Bay.

13. Broome Trike Tours

Bikes and buses are nothing new; but a trike or better yet, being chauffeured in a limo trike is certainly unique. This is one of the options with Broome Trike Tours , which takes guests around the local area. Other tour options include meeting crocodiles at the Croc Feeding Tour at Malcolm Douglas Wildlife Park and taste-testing bush tucker .

14. Broome Aviation Tours

This is The Kimberleys for the time poor: Broome Aviation’s Gorgeous Gorges Tour is a full-day adventure – starting and ending in Broome – that encompasses the region’s must-dos, with scenic flights over gorges, waterfalls, red ranges and remote islands that make up the Buccaneer Archipelago.

But what makes this experience so special is the opportunity to travel on land too. Among the many stops is Windjana Gorge, home to the revered Johnstone River Crocodile and an ancient reef system that’s significant to geologists. Passengers can cool off with a swim at Bell Gorge waterfall.
