The production will hold technical rehearsals and performances at Chicago's CIBC Theatre (November 2-7, 2021) before embarking on its 2021-22 North American Touring season. With a book by Tony and Academy Award-nominee Douglas McGrath , direction by Marc Bruni and choreography by Josh Prince , Beautiful features a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin / Carole King and Barry Mann / Cynthia Weil . On October 27, 2019, the Broadway production of Beautiful - The Carole King Musical ended its smash-hit, record-breaking run after nearly six years. The production played 60 preview and 2,418 regular performances, surpassing the original production of Annie and the landmark 1998 revival of Cabaret to become the 27th longest-running musical (and the second longest running "bio-musical") in Broadway history. On Broadway, the show was seen by almost 2,200,000 audience members (including, quite famously, King herself) and is the longest-running and highest-grossing show in the history of the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Beautiful - The Carole King Musical (Ghostlight Records) won the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and is available on CD, digitally, and on vinyl.

Sony Pictures has announced that the film adaptation of Beautiful will be produced by Tom Hanks , Gary Goetzman , and Paul Blake .

Long before she was Carole King , chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein , Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock 'n' roll. But it wasn't until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin , to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann , to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. Beautiful features a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin / Carole King and Barry Mann / Cynthia Weil , including "I Feel The Earth Move," "One Fine Day," "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," "You've Got A Friend" and the title song.

The creative team of Beautiful also includes Derek McLane (Set Design), Alejo Vietti (Costume Design), Peter Kaczorowski (Lighting Design), Brian Ronan (Sound Design), Charles G. LaPointe (Wig and Hair Design), Steve Sidwell (Orchestrations and Music Arrangements), Jason Howland (Music Supervision) and John Miller (Music Coordination).

Beautiful - The Carole King Musical is produced by Paul Blake , Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Jeffrey A. Sine , Richard A. Smith , Mike Bosner , Harriet N. Leve/ Elaine Krauss , Terry Schnuck , Orin Wolf , Patty Baker /Good Productions, Roger Faxon , Larry Magid , Kit Seidel , Lawrence S. This 592-Square-Foot Sydney Home Shows Off Compact Functionality

Yasmine Ghoniem (right), founder of design studio YSG, and her husband, Tom Swanson.

“At its core, my outlook is nourished by the layers of my culture and travels,” says Yasmine Ghoniem, founder and principal of YSG Studio . Yasmine, who has an Australian mother and an Egyptian father, grew up between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia—with a few years in-between in Australia—and almost a decade in America for postgraduate studies and work. “Like all YSG spaces, everything in my home is interconnected and there is no hierarchy.”

After renting a place in another Sydney suburb for some time, Yasmine and her husband, Tom Swanson, were ready to take the big leap toward home ownership. “Several months of online searching [brought us to] this golden find,” Yasmine says. Situated on a building’s upper level in the city’s iconic oceanside neighborhood of Bondi, the compact 592-square-foot apartment immediately seduced Tom—who is “a mad surfer,” according to Yasmine—with its beachside location. It didn’t take much more to convince the interior designer, who loved the sensible layout. “It shares no common walls and has no internal corridor, meaning absolutely no space is wasted,” she says. “Tall ceilings were the added kicker. Original timber-framed windows were also a requirement.” — Karine Monié

A Charlotte Perriand coffee table for Cassina is surrounded by Olivier Mourgue’s Djinn ottomans upholstered in a wool bouclé. A Ron Rezek green table lamp sits beside the sectional, and a Sergio Mazza’s Alfa lamp is on the coffee table.

Alan Eckstein has mastered the art of the search. As the founder of Somerset House, a Brooklyn furniture store that’s cultivated from his collection, Alan has the type of knowledge for chairs, consoles, and tables that any professor would have for a subject.

Alan and his wife, fashion stylist Haley Loewenthal , lived in a one-bedroom apartment when the pandemic hit. And though it felt like home, it was missing one detail that suddenly took on a profound amount of importance. “We didn’t have any outdoor space,” he says. “We also wanted to start a family, and there wasn’t room for an extra person to join us there. We knew that in order to grow, or to even have somewhere to exhale, we needed to move.” So, Alan began to do what he does best: search.

The 2,500-square-foot duplex in New York’s Long Island City had two bedrooms and two floors, providing more than enough space for the couple to spread out. It was almost as if Craigslist, a long-beloved treasure chest for Alan, had come through for him again. “I think it was available because of the pandemic,” he notes. “My wife and I were looking for an interesting open space with character. This apartment has that, and the best part about it is that it also has a private roof deck.” — Kelly Dawson

Noah Venezia (left) and Megan Hershman in their Brooklyn apartment.

When Megan Hershman, a design director at Common Living, and her husband—Noah Venezia, a graphic designer and adjunct professor at Pratt Institute—stumbled upon the top floor of this two-story town house in Carroll Gardens , it was the abundance of natural light that instantly hooked them. “The unit is north and south-facing, and gets direct sun for most of the day,” Megan says. “We immediately knew it was right for us.” In addition to good lighting, the couple appreciated the old-world charms of the building, like the tin ceilings, cast-iron built-in kitchen sink, and original hardwood floors. “We also loved the old-school charm of the pink bathroom, which felt so playful and one-of-a-kind,” Megan adds. — Monica Mendal

Not much more than 600 square feet, Fanny Singer ’s Rudolph Schindler apartment is housed in a 16-unit complex from the 1920s that has a semi-commune feeling with its interconnected living spaces and garden walkways. As each apartment was given its own identity, Fanny has loved figuring out how to live in this vision. “There is a vast array of different apartments in the building,” she says. “The one across the way is a double-height apartment with an incredible wall of windows. Mine is oriented toward the Hollywood sign—a perfect painting studio.”

The writer and cofounder of design brand Permanent Collection thinks that even though Schindler was an iconic LA architect, the space doesn’t have a particularly local feeling. “The shapes are very Russian Constructivism.” This idea rings true in the wood features, the fireplace, and the shape of the ceiling. “Schindler was very specific with his work. He designed with an idea of exactly how people should live,” Fanny says. “I haven’t become one of those people who are totally obsessed with Schindler, but he becomes part of your psyche.” — Zoë Sessums

Taking Rustic Vibes to New Heights in This Stunning California A-Frame

Bringing things right back up to date, a large floor rug from Cold Picnic injects a sense of modernism to the space. Vintage pieces, including a 1960s dome floor lamp, glass coffee table, and chairs by Marcel Breuer , are judiciously situated, layering the spaces and echoing the home’s midcentury history.

A serene rural setting where you’re surrounded by towering trees, rugged mountains, and shimmering lakes is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of city life. So naturally, when SoCal dwellers Gloria Noto , founder of organic cosmetics line Noto Botanics , and her partner, designer Ash Owens , first set eyes on the arresting 1,900-square-foot rustic hideaway that they now own, they knew it would reshape their lives. And not just in its triangular A-frame form, but by providing both a personal refuge and workspace.

Located in the remote wilderness of Crestline, California, with its cozy cabins and quaint cottages, their 1964-built midcentury marvel is the first home the creative couple have bought together. “I was in LA and Ash was commuting between there and New York, so we really wanted to find a home for all of us,” Gloria says. She shares a dog, Mio, and cats, Holly and Benny, with Ash. “I still keep a loft in the Arts District so we can go back and forth, but it’s nice having the option to step away from the city now, and to submerge ourselves into this sanctuary we’ve created.” — Kate Lawson

Patrick Janelle Transforms a Rundown Rental Into a Chic New York City Loft

When Patrick signed his lease, he thought the fireplace was functional. As it turns out, he can’t use it, but it still adds character to the place.

Patrick Janelle always dreamed of living in a downtown Manhattan loft . The lifestyle influencer, who also runs the talent agency Untitled Secret , fantasized about an airy and industrial home as he spent the past decade climbing the rungs of the New York City housing ladder. So when he grew out of his most recent abode, a compact yet curated SoHo apartment, he knew it was time to actualize his goal.

“I’m very romantic in my ideals about how I envision things for myself and my life in New York,” Patrick shares. “I’ve always made a point that I wanted to be in Manhattan—as cool as I think Brooklyn is—and I never have had this quintessential loft moment.”

Since Patrick couldn’t afford to buy the type of spacious loft he’d been lusting after, he focused his hunt on rentals that would allow him to renovate. After a handful of viewings, he found exactly what he was looking for: a generous three-bedroom in an early 20th-century factory building with a very lenient landlord. He adored the prime Flatiron location too. — Morgan Goldberg

A Charming 200-Square-Foot Apartment on Paris’s Left Bank

The beautiful 19th-century floor tiles and the fireplace were original to the building. Throughout the loft, discreetly integrated storage is present, sometimes highlighted with bronzed brass details.

You might assume that a 200-square-foot apartment would be the home of a student on a budget or maybe a short-term rental for travelers. This apartment, however, belongs to a successful businesswoman who lives outside of Paris and was in need of a small pied-à-terre in the capital.

Pauline Lorenzi-Boisrond was commissioned to renovate the studio on the rue du Cherche-Midi. “She comes to Paris regularly for work, but she had grown tired of impersonal hotel rooms where she can’t leave her things from one visit to the next,” Pauline, the interior designer and founder of Studio Ett Hem , explains. “She wanted her own little suite in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area.” Ett hem means “house” in Swedish. It is indeed a fitting name for a designer tasked with overcoming the limitations of the space to bring out its homey charms. — Nicolas Milon

Eight-foot-long drawers offer storage beneath the bed.

Like most people with internet access, Corey Kingston is obsessed with scrolling through the real estate listings on Zillow . The New York–based architect could argue that this hobby doubles as valuable market research for Le Whit , the design studio she founded with Liza Curtiss, but its most fruitful reward was the discovery of a Lower East Side apartment she could actually afford.

The 400-square-foot residence popped up on Corey’s screen during a heat wave, so she quickly put in an offer while the city was a ghost town. It was accepted thanks to the lack of competition and her instant connection with the seller, who was giving up the place to enroll in a Philadelphia architecture school. They bonded over an appreciation for the early-20th-century building’s history as a tenement and then a squatter property. — Morgan Goldberg

This Enchanting Los Angeles Apartment Was the Longtime Home of Mae West

A visual centerpiece of the apartment is Kimberly’s “wall of kooks.” It includes portraits she’s picked up through the years. Here, the small black table next to the leather chair was owned by Mary Pickford, the red pen on the coffee table was owned by Zsa Zsa Gabor, and the perfume on the table was owned by Mae West.

Designer Kimberly Biehl ’s fascination with old Hollywood began as a child. That was around the same time that her quest to discover and bring new life to old pieces also began. She started shopping at estate sales, garage sales, and flea markets in her teens. “As soon as I could drive, that’s where I was,” she says.

It’s no wonder then that Kimberly’s own home is filled with old Hollywood relics and classic furniture pieces she’s breathed new life into. What is a wonder, though, is that it’s happening in a piece of old Hollywood itself. Kimberly lives in the former apartment of Mae West, in the historic Ravenswood apartment building. — Lauren Harkawik

Art Imitates Life in This Bauhaus-Inspired Brooklyn Apartment

Vicente (left) and Audrey pose in their living room.

Raised by two aesthetes in an historic 1899 house in Hartford, Connecticut, Audrey Rose Smith had an art-filled childhood. Her father was a preservation architect, and her mother ran an art gallery, so their home was constantly host to artists and their work. It’s only logical that Audrey later became a gallerist herself.

It also makes sense that she swiftly fell in love with a fellow creative. Only eight months after meeting Ecuadorian photographer and designer Vicente Muñoz , the pair jointly purchased their prewar Clinton Hill apartment in Brooklyn. They married soon after, partnering in matrimony as well as real estate without looking back.

Eight years later, the couple has cultivated a tight-knit and like-minded community in the neighborhood. Turn-of-the-century buildings by architects like William Tubby, Montrose Morris, and Ebenezer L. Roberts pepper the streets where they frequently run into friends and colleagues. “It feels like an art world sitcom,” Audrey quips. “The farmers market is really exciting.” — Morgan Goldberg

Jewel Tones Heighten This 700-Square-Foot Rome Apartment

A green kitchen in a Rome apartment counter stools green cabinets and wood cabinets

Counter stools offer a space for guests to accompany the chef in the kitchen. Wood elements further reflect the forest-inspired colored choice for the cabinetry.

“I think of a house as a complicated machine in which something new breaks down every day: a lamp, a faucet, a lock, an electric socket, the boiler, the refrigerator …. But when we can forget about the responsibility of continuous maintenance, we feel happy. Then the other side of the coin, opposed to the responsibilities of ownership, is sheer gratitude.”

That was the thinking of Álvaro Siza, the great Portuguese architect who, at the age of 89, continues to inspire a younger generation. In their space, design duo Eugenia Rolando and Federico Patacchiola of Paros Architettura —a couple in life as well as at work—start from these very words to create subtly inventive places.

A prime example of their work is Casa Costantino, a small but elegant Rome apartment. The building, a 1960s structure in the Ostiense district , is a stone’s throw from the famous Garbatella area. The 700-square-foot apartment is all modern, and thanks to Paros Architettura, it’s been transformed from an old family home full of memories into a light-flooded environment with a contemporary feel. — Ludovica Stevan

A Rotterdam Apartment Is Filled With One Artistic Couple’s Many Vintage Finds

Jeroen (left), Stéphane, and their dog, Henry.

Stéphane Monnet and Jeroen Dijkstra either have good luck, good timing, or simply the good sense to know when something just feels right. When they were apartment hunting in Rotterdam, the Netherlands , Stéphane was seeking out distinctly European surroundings—since he was moving from Toronto—and they found them in a one-bedroom property, downtown. “With all of its flourishes, huge windows, and open spaces, it was a perfect fit,” Stéphane says. “It was already snatched up, but that deal fell through at the last minute.”

Set inside a building from the 1880s, facing a busy street on one end and a verdant courtyard on the other, their home had been recently restored to reflect what existed way back when. Intricate crown molding sprawled across ceilings while wainscoting lined the lower half of the walls, and that artistry was painted in shades of green to contrast the white in between. Windows stretched over their contrasting outdoor views, and plenty of light streamed in. The couple also had a private balcony to share, in case they ever wanted a closer look at the birds, whose pleasant song woke them in the morning. — Kelly Dawson

All the proof Taylor Swift is making first major change to Eras Tour

Welcome to "The Tortured Poets Department" (Eras Tour Version).

beautiful tour videos

It looks like Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour is getting a brand new era, straight from the Tortured Poets Department .

Since the announcement of her new 11th studio album ( which dropped April 19 ), fans have been anxiously waiting to see if her worldwide, career-spanning tour would get a shakeup to accommodate the new music. While Swift is remaining mum, and a rep for the singer didn't respond to an EW request for comment, a new YouTube Short posted to Swift's account seems to provide all the clarity Swifties needed that a change is imminent.

In the video, which is part of Swift's #ForAFortnightChallenge tied to the album's first single, "Fortnight," the 14-time Grammy winner can be seen rehearsing for tour with her backup dancers. While some shots are obviously from the Folklore , Lover , and other existing "eras" of the show, several blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments have never been seen before.

In one, Swift, clad in workout gear, appears to be wearing the same boots seen in her "Fortnight" video . She's holding on to a banister that looks like it has the Tortured Poets Department emblem on it — the "P" and the "D" can just be made out.

taylor swift/youtube

Although the video is in grayscale, and therefore exact colors are impossible to identify for sure, several shots feature what looks like a new white-ish mic, which has never been seen before. The new era's color, of course, is also an off-white hue.

Perhaps the most interesting moment of the new clip, though, is one that features what looks like new choreography and costumes. Swift's backup dancers can be seen in top hats and dancing with canes, while she sings in the front middle of the group — choreography and props which have so far not been featured in the concert.

This is all speculative until the tour resumes in Paris, France, on May 9, of course, but if Swift is adding a whole new era, it would mark the first major change to the setlist since Swift began performing it last March.

Throughout the tour, she's made little swaps here or there: She added performances with some of the artists who opened for her like HAIM or Phoebe Bridgers, and she added "Long Live" to the Speak Now section when that re-recorded album released during tour. She also swapped out "Invisible String" for the "The 1" in the Folklore section after news of her split with Joe Alwyn broke.

But, nothing has majorly been added or subtracted from the show, which is already a whopping three-and-a-half hours long. Now, if anyone could pull off adding more runtime to Eras, it's the "Mastermind" herself, but it's more likely that some songs will be getting cut to make room for new material. Fans have theorized that the tracks that didn't make it into the VOD rental of the Eras Tour concert film — "The Archer," "Wildest Dreams," "Cardigan," and "Long Live" — could be first on the chopping block, but we'll just have to wait and see what Ms. Swift has up her cryptic and Machiavellian sleeve.

Monica On Motherhood, The ‘Pink Friday 2’ Tour And Finding An ‘Amazing’ Love

Monica is our may mother's day cover star..

I t’s the Thursday before the first stop on the Pink Friday 2 World Tour and Monica Denise Arnold has carved out an hour of her busy schedule to chat. She’s preparing to embark on the 59-show trek that will challenge her mentally and physically – something the Grammy Award-winning entertainer doesn’t take lightly.

Monica’s inimitable voice evokes deep emotion in regular conversation just as much as it does when she’s belting out one of her most beloved ballads. Its rich tone feels like a comforting hug. Her serene energy is palpable. This is a woman who feels at peace.

Get a Behind-the-Scenes look at Monica’s HelloBeautiful cover shoot. Tap here to watch .

Through her diary on wax, the vocalist with gospel roots has chronicled Black womanhood through the eyes of a woman who admittedly loves hard. That is easy to glean from the ATL native’s gynocentric lyrics and songs that have been the score of Black love for decades. Monica established herself as a vocal force with her debut album, Miss Thang (1995), a classic R&B disc that serves as a marker in time. Black women sing “It’s just one of them days…don’t take it personal,” in unison, like a rallying cry. She was just an emerging artist then, with pipes that would eventually impress even Whitney Houston, but Monica was born to do this.

Monica has given so much of herself to us. If it feels like we’ve grown up together, it’s because we have. After all, she’s chronicled her experiences from teenager to woman to mother, cruising through each hood with an impeccable style and a street name – Goonica — that carries weight. Her 2003 album, After The Storm , produced by Missy Elliott, was a commercial success. The platinum-selling disc spawned the hit single “So Gone” – a sonic experience of her resilience in real-time.

Today, Monica’s catalog can be heard billowing through “Gag City” – the fictitious (but very real) playground of the Barbz as an act on Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 World Tour.

Monica is centerstage as the matriarch of our May Mother’s Day cover. With her tribe thriving, a new man, and the lessons she’s learned throughout her transcendent career, everything has culminated in this moment, she is more than “ready” for what this stage of her life has to bring.

Monica ‘Pink Friday 2 World Tour’

Nicki Minaj had a vision for The Pink Friday 2 World Tour  – to transport the Barbz to a golden time in music. Ah, the ’90s.

“Once I understood the vision of it all and what [Nicki] is doing is really paying homage to an era of music that was a part of her childhood and a part of her teenage years,” said the record-setting artist. “The goal is to take everyone back to that moment and allow them to live in that space during the time that I’m on stage.”

The mention of a tour originated when Monica stepped in the booth to record with Nicki and Keyshia Cole on the laced “Love Me Enough.” Monica and Nicki built a relationship via social media when they would reach out to one another to exchange positive affirmations via DM.

“Nicki has always been extremely supportive,” explained Monica. “She always shared stories about singing my records when she was younger. We established a relationship early on. I would always reach out and say ‘Thank you for the support’ and vice versa. And over the years we’ve talked back and forth many times.”

Anticipating the “crazy hours” and the strenuous work of touring, Monica is keeping a pulse on her health. “I’m much better every performance when I’m rested.” For her, that means pulling off the ultimate balancing act by prioritizing her health, maintaining her voice, and tending to her family as a mother of four. “I’m learning to take the time and do the vocal therapy I need to do, I had a very intense surgery almost a year ago. They told me that it could very well be a two-year process to totally rehabilitate and make sure that everything was back to normal and a hundred percent.”

Monica May Mother's Day Cover - HelloBeautiful

Recharging is a self-care remedy Monica plans to implement while traveling state to state despite it not being second nature for her to ask for a break. “I’m not one that is good at saying, ‘I need time, I need a break, I need space. I need a moment.’ That was never easy for me.”

Monica has been transparent with her fans about her health and struggles with heart disease. In 2021, she shared she underwent eight-hour endometriosis surgery . According to HuffPost , Monica was diagnosed, at 18, with a heart condition called mitral valve prolapse, which doctors discovered after the “Trust” singer collapsed at a Washington D.C. show.

Earlier this year, Monica faced a similar experience . Fan footage captured glimpses of what appeared to be the singer passed out on the side of the stage before being carried out to an ambulance. While fans speculated on her condition, Monica revealed to us she underwent a hospitalization after that performance due to her long health battle.

“I passed out immediately following that show and was hospitalized in Houston. And it does come from years of me putting my body through a lot. There’s absolutely no pretending that I’m this superhuman robotic form of myself. And as you age, you start learning different things, trigger your body in different ways. And I’m learning those and listening to my body, listening to my doctors, so that, that could never happen again. That’s the goal, to never end up in that place again.”

Currently, halfway through back-to-back sold-out shows on the Pink Friday 2  tour, reviews of Monica seems to be in good health and spirits. Her performances of songs like “So Gone,” “Love All Over Me” and other classic tracks, can be summed up into one tweet, “the mic is on.”

According to the R&B veteran, her favorite track to perform is the Missy Elliott-produced hit “So Gone.” If “we ride at dawn” had a soundtrack it would sound like Monica reciting the words, “kick down your doors and smack ya chick.”

It’s almost unthinkable that Monica and Missy Elliott had to advocate to keep “So Gone” in its original cadence. The chart-topping single, which revitalized Monica’s career, became a women’s anthem and inspired a viral challenge in 2016 , that encouraged fans to rap over the Missy beat.

“It’s because I can never forget the pain that I felt when I was recording that record and being extremely transparent and honest and authentic to who I am and what I was experiencing at that time.”

Monica experienced unimaginable tragedy in 2000, when she witnessed the suicide of her ex-boyfriend Jarvis Weems. Constantly questioning what more she could have done to help him, the overwhelming weight of his death compounded with the loss of her grandmother and cousin – all within the same year — she went recluse. During her time out of the spotlight, she determined she wanted to channel her pain into her music, and her 2003 album, After The Storm, was born. The lead single, “So Gone,” is nestled in a chamber in Monica’s heart. However, it wasn’t an easy feat to get released.

“I remember one record executive saying “’So Gone” doesn’t have a hook. ‘Go back and finish it up.’” There was no doubt in Monica or Missy’s mind about the structure of the beloved song. “We understood everything that that record was because it was created in real time while I was in the middle of a real situation. And trying to express that in rooms and places where people may not be where you’re from, they may not understand it in totality, you have to fight for it.”

We pause for a moment to muse about Missy Elliott’s impact on pop culture. “Missy is one of the greatest believers in herself, and that’s important,” she said praising the hip-hop pioneer whose work behind the scenes comes out in bits and pieces.

“A big part that she played in it was being there not only as I took it to radio stations, which was necessary back then. And in those times, yeah. She made a lot of the phone calls. She did a lot of the appearances and things of that nature with me to let people know that this was far more than a unified front. We were a team. We were a unit.”

Monica May Mother's Day Cover - HelloBeautiful

Our conversation naturally drifts to the topic of motherhood, career and how Monica manages to “balance it all.” With a strong tribe surrounding her, she’s able to get it done. These days, the Brown unit consists of her preteen, Laiyah, recent high school graduate Rodney Hill Jr., Romelo Hill, and Monica’s oldest son, Ramone Hill, who is like a caretaker to them all.

A quick scan of Monica’s social media account is a glimpse into who she is as a mother – fashionable, present and proud. One caption of a photo of her and Rodney, in coordinating black looks reads, “My bond with my children is endless.” Scroll a bit further and she’s posing with her daughter. Despite her long list of accolades – including Billboard dubbing her hit song, “The Boy Is Mine,” one of the “Greatest of All Time Songs of the Summer,” a personal stamp of approval from Whitney Houston, and an incomparable catalog of music — her family is still her biggest accomplishment. Becoming a mother was sacred to Monica – an honor.

Monica May Mother's Day Cover - HelloBeautiful

“It’s a level of happiness and joy and it’s the unconditional love that you just can’t find in other places,” she passionately described. Her daughter she shares with former NBA baller Shannon Brown, Laiyah, turned 10 in 2023. “One of the things I try to consistently instill is her confidence, her belief in herself, her understanding that she is great just as she is inside and out. I push her towards her goals and her dreams,” she explained. “I’m not directing her or redirecting her away from what her goals and dreams are. We’re pushing her towards it because I think she has the right support system to be a part of whatever she wants to be a part of. But I love the joy of having a daughter. I love the fun of us being able to talk about some of the female things.”

As someone who has been transparent about her struggle with love, Monica felt a responsibility to prepare her daughter the best way she could. “I get a chance to talk to her as she gets older about relationships, about what she requires, about understanding what she deserves, how she’s treated.” She leads by example. “Her seeing the door being opened for me, her seeing me being cared for, treating and treated a certain way is really important.”

Monica May Mother's Day Cover - HelloBeautiful

When it comes to co-parenting, she said it’s “easy.” “I have no feelings there. I just have responsibilities, which is to make sure that my kids feel happy and whole. And whatever that requires is exactly what I do.”

Monica and her ex-fiance Rodney “Rocko” Hill split in 2010 , but that didn’t affect her relationship with his son Ramone. She entered his life when he was 4 years old and over the years, Ramone has become more than a big brother to his siblings, he is the leader of the gang. He is her right hand as a presence at parent-teacher conferences, traveling with the family and ultimately helping Monica “balance a lot of things.”

“It allowed me to have this unbreakable bond with him that he knows and understands that he is absolutely no different than the other children in any way.”

Through her children, she has experienced unconditional love; now, she’s feeling what it feels like to be loved by a man with her best interest at heart.

Love All Over Me

Monica May Mother's Day Cover - HelloBeautiful

For Black women, ride-or-die love, the type of love Monica sings about in songs like “Should’ve Known Better,” sometimes comes at the detriment of our hearts. Black women have notoriously suffered at the hands of our partners physically and mentally. “I love extremely hard and that sometimes has caused me to be hurt in tremendous manners.” Monica can forgive because she holds herself accountable for “her part” in any situation.

“I’ve learned the ride-or-die mentality will sometimes allow people to just ride completely over you. I found myself in my loyalty and in my dedication to people that did not share the same in return for me. For years I thought letting go was wrong because I put that in the same package as loyalty. I guess I was about 30 years old when I truly understood it.”

While in the past, Monica may have given “the right thing to some of the wrong people,” she is currently experiencing a healthy, joyous love.

“I’m in a relationship that has been amazing,” Monica gushed when asked about her current romance with manager, TV and film executive Anthony “Ant” Wilson . Her relationship with the BMF producer may be fresher news to her fans, but their feelings have been brewing; he’s a friend she never expected to connect with.

“When you fall in love with someone that’s been your friend for a very long time, I think it’s different. This is the first time it’s ever happened to me. I’m new in the space, but I’m definitely enjoying it. I’m enjoying being supported. I’m enjoying being really loved in a way that allows me to be a lot softer than I typically am. There are a lot of firsts happening for me right now.”

Monica May Mother's Day Cover - HelloBeautiful

“One of the things that stands out to me most that he consistently does, he fixes things. And I don’t mean physically fixing them, but I mean, in any capacity, if I’m looking for it, it helps that he’s very knowledgeable about the business and he runs several businesses of his own, but he’s able to help me do things that I’ve always had to do alone. And taking some of the burden off my back on a daily basis allows me to be more free, even with the children or in other places. I can think about so many other things because if he calls me and he hears the slightest bit of stress in my voice, whatever I tell him is wrong. He fixes it. And that’s something I’ve never experienced before, ever.”

Wilson arranged for Monica’s kids to visit her at the Denver stop on the Pink Friday 2 World Tour , a surprise that moved Monica to tears. Being from Georgia, Monica naturally considers herself “submissive,” when led properly. She’s enjoying this soft era.

“In my relationship now, I don’t have to take over. I don’t have to overthink anything really. I can just be myself, express myself, explain what’s happening in my daily, and he just fixes it. He can tell you where all of my children are most of the day. He loves to make sure that his relationship with them is intact. Not in a way that seems forced but natural. Whatever it is they love, he goes to that, meets me, meets them where they are.”

Led By Faith

Monica May Mother's Day Cover - HelloBeautiful

Monica is blessed to be surrounded by family, her partner who pours into her, and the love and support of her friends through Christ. The divine voices –Yolanda Adams, Whitney Houston and Kim Burrell– which make up her R&B Mount Rushmore, have been guiding lights in her life. Monica credits the gospel powerhouse, Yolanda Adams, with being instrumental in her growth and faith.

“She addresses me with no judgment. She has never made me feel as if I’ve fallen from grace. She’s always the reminder that he’s constantly forgiving and he’s watching, and he’s a part of evolving into the woman that I desire to become.” If there’s anyone who could get Monica to commit to a gospel album, it is Yolanda.

Monica and the late Whitney Houston’s relationship has been well-documented in the media. A grainy clip on TikTok captures the nostalgic moment Whitney Houston, holding her daughter Bobbi Kristina, called Monica to the stage to show off her captivating vocals. But it is the moments behind the scenes that Monica reminisces about during our interview. “Anytime something really difficult transpired in my life, she would show up.” And by showing up, she means any place, any time. Imagine, Whitney Houston just popping up like an angel at your toughest moment to offer a consoling line of wisdom. “Her consistently telling me, ‘Always be who you are. Don’t let them change you,'” played a pivotal role in Monica’s personal life and career. She has carried that mantra like a gem in her watch pocket.

Thanks to her friends, family and man, she is on the very deserving end of the love she has continually poured out. While Monica is still a work in progress, she seems fulfilled; that’s all anyone can ask for.

Taylor Swift releases YouTube short that appears to have new Eras Tour dances

beautiful tour videos

Taylor Swift  released a new YouTube Shorts video and fans believe clips are signifying a "The Tortured Poets Department" number or set during the Eras Tour.

After the double album was released Friday, fans wondered if the singer would fit any of the 31 songs into the three-plus hour set. In the quick 15-second video, fans pointed out a couple of suspect shots, including Swift leaning against a railing that seems to have the "TTPD" logo and a quick scene where her backup dancers hold poles and wear top hats.

Swift has been on a two-month break from the Eras Tour and has spent much of her time in Los Angeles.

If there is a new Eras Tour set, the next question is where would she add the era? "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince's" opening line is a perfect opening for an artist who has released seven albums and hasn't seen fans: "It's been a long time coming."

She could end the show with the "TTPD" set, but "Karma" is also a good show closer. Other than those two options, she could place "TTPD" after "Reputation" and before "Speak Now" or also right before "Midnights."

"A fortnight til Paris 🤍," Swift says in the caption. Her next tour stop is Paris, France on May 9. Swift will tour in Europe for 51 shows until she takes a break and heads back to the United States and Canada.

Guyton’s new single, a gentle ballad about a mother’s fierce love, opens with the heart-touching lines, “I see pictures of my mama, hangin’ on the wall/ She’s never looked so happy, and I’ve never looked so small/ Now I’m holdin’ you and I know what they say is true/ When a baby’s born that’s when a mother’s born too.”

Guyton and husband Grant Savoy welcomed their first child, son Grayson, in Feb. 2021 and the acoustic ballad’s moving lyric video features home movie footage of Guyton in the hospital cradling her then newborn and spending time with the now toddler. “Cuz I felt it before, but it wasn’t like this/ Ain’t a thing I wouldn’t do, ain’t a thing I wouldn’t give/ It’s the kind you fall into and never hit the bottom of/ It’s a scary love,” she sings on the chorus.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are showing up to support Patrick Mahomes ’ charity.

The couple made an appearance at The 15 and Mahomies Foundation Golf Classic gala in Las Vegas on April 27, joining Patrick, 28, and his wife Brittany Mahomes for the auction event along with guests.

Swift and Kelce, both 34, were described as “super adorable” and “down to earth and kind” in the caption of a video taken by an attendee at the event that was shared on X (formerly Twitter) of the pair holding hands on arrival at the gala as they made their way to their table.

"NBD. Just T Swift and her man Travis Kelce," the attendee wrote over the video of the couple, adding, "And they are super adorable together. So down to earth & kind.... Just super cool badass human beings."

At the event, Swift also took a selfie with auctioneer Harry Santa, who appeared to host the auction portion of the gala on Saturday evening, which saw a surprise item up for grabs.

In a video posted from the gala on his Instagram Stories, Santa wrote in the caption that Kelce had “convinced” Swift to put four tickets for her Eras Tour up for auction.

In the clip, the NFL star appeared onstage with him, and referred to Swift as his “significant other” as he revealed to guests the singer’s surprise contribution to the auction.

“I was just talking to my significant other and uh,” he said as the room cheered. “We might have one other auction item that wasn’t on the docket — has anyone heard of the Eras Tour?” More cheers were then heard from guests in response.

Swift was seen in another video posted on X waving what appeared to be a red napkin along with other guests ahead of auctioning off the tickets as she sat beside Patrick and Brittany.

The camera then panned across the room over to where Kelce stood as Santa said to him, "Who would actually pay hundreds of thousands just to know Taylor Swift is actually cheering you on as you're winning 4 of her tickets — this is insane! Let's go!"

Kelce, who waved what appeared to be a yellow napkin, laughed in response along with the guests as Santa walked to the far side of the room and began the auction. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end could be heard shouting after, “Let’s go baby!”

Santa revealed in another video from the auction that Swift’s tour tickets ended up being sold for an “insane” $80,000 as guests were seen in the clip cheering while waving their flags.

Swift — who released her 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department on April 19 — and Kelce’s appearance at the gala comes after the pair had another double date with the Mahomes' at Easy's Cocktail Lounge inside the ARIA Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip on April 26.

They also embarked on a getaway together with Bradley Cooper and girlfriend Gigi Hadid at Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, as shared by Kelce’s mother Donna .

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

{{tournament.sponsortitle}}, player results, sinner storms past sonego in madrid.

Jannik Sinner arrived at the Caja Magica with a 3-2 record at the Mutua Madrid Open , but the top seed did not show a lack of confidence Saturday.

The Italian star cruised past countryman Lorenzo Sonego 6-0, 6-3 in just 69 minutes to reach the third round at the ATP Masters 1000 event. He will next play World No. 72 Pavel Kotov .

“I know Lorenzo quite well. We have a good friendship off the court, we play Davis Cup together, we practise a lot together,” Sinner said. “Also the mental side was a little bit different than it used to be, so I'm just happy how I handled the situation. He didn't play at his best. I think we saw this. I wish him all the best for the rest of the season.”

Sinner, playing as the top seed at an ATP Masters 1000 for the first time, took a 5-0 lead in his Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Sonego with a dominant display inside Manolo Santana Stadium. The 22-year-old did not face a break point while he broke his opponent’s serve four times according to Infosys ATP Stats.

The No. 2 player in the PIF ATP Rankings won a higher rate of second-serve points (62%) than Sonego did first-serve points (54%) and was never in difficulty.

Sinner is now 26-2 on the season, which has been the best of his career. He won his first major title at the Australian Open and also triumphed in Rotterdam and Miami.

Kotov set his maiden tour-level clash with Sinner with a topsy-turvy 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 triumph against 32nd seed Jordan Thompson . He saved two match points when trailing 4-5 in the deciding set before pulling through to a three-hour, 16-minute triumph. The 25-year-old Kotov had not won a Masters 1000 main-draw match prior to his first-round victory against Albert Ramos-Vinolas .

Did You Know? Sinner has lost just one of the 12 Lexus ATP Head2Head sets he has played against Sonego. None of their past nine sets have been extended past 6-4.
