Jack Antonoff Isn’t Just an A-List Pop Producer and Songwriter, He’s an Emo Kid From Jersey Too

By Jon Dolan

Jack Antonoff has almost single-handedly made modern pop into a glorious safe space, an expansive, sensitive, creative biosphere where the biggest artists in the world — from Taylor to Lana to Lorde — can chase their wildest ambitions and find their most real inner selves while still making blockbuster records. Most A-list superproducers are pop scientists. Antonoff is a pop humanist.

Bleachers is the project where he works out his band side. The three previous Bleachers LPs have highlighted an Eighties-tinged refusal to acknowledge that there should be any distinction between hook-ninja slickness and unrepentant sentimentality, a quality that’s also there in Antonoff’s mega-pop co-writing.

Meet the MVP of 'Shōgun' — Ex-Punk Rocker and Japanese Movie Star Tadanobu Asano

Team trump is ready to lose the supreme court immunity case. they’re celebrating, billie eilish would like to reintroduce herself, russian mercenaries hunt the african warlord america couldn’t catch.

He gets lovably personal on the synth-rocker “Jesus Is Dead,” as he looks back on his own mid-2000s golden age of DIY tours and hanging out at the New York hipster dance night Misshapes. “I miss it, all the time,” he laments, contrasting that indie Eden with the strange vibes these days of feeling like “the man who sold the world.” He’s similarly wistful on the National-style sad-dad rock of “Isimo” and on the folky “Woke Up Today,” where Joni Mitchell acoustic chords back a tale of post-breakup bummedness.

Every element of the Bleachers experience comes together on the album’s centerpiece, “Alma Mater.” This one has sax magic and Boss mumbling too, but mainly knocks you over by subtraction rather than addition, boiling down the Born to Run  idealism you hear elsewhere to an elegiac ambiance. Even Lana Del Rey’s appearance on the track feels understated. Antonoff sings about listening to Tom Waits as he drives through Jersey looking for the heart of Saturday night. “Fuck Balenciaga/Right past the Wawa,” he mutters, slipping into his runaway American dream. His life these days is more Balenciaga than Wawa, but Bleachers is a nice reminder of the sweet suburban kid at the heart of his Top 40 win.

Bleachers will have all the "Modern Girl(s)" running to see them live!

On Tuesday,   Jack Antonoff 's alternative band announced their United States From the Studio to the Stage tour, in support of their upcoming album Bleachers .

The tour will kick off on May 18 in Salt Lake City and they'll make stops in major cities before wrapping on June 15 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The shows will feature Samia as an opener.

Fans can sign up for the Seated registration presale beginning on Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. local time at bleachersmusic.com/tour . General sale will begin on Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. local time.

As always, $1 from every ticket sold will go to The Ally Coalition — founded by Jack and Rachel Antonoff in 2013 — and their work supporting LGBTQ+ youth across the country.

“Jack here. We know there’s lots of issues and confusion when buying tickets to shows. Want to ensure you we’ve done and will always do everything in our power to make this process as clean and transparent as possible for you all," Jack, 39, said in a press release.

"We’ve had conversations from every single venue and promoter to the heads of the companies to limit fees and advertise only the total price to fans for as many shows as possible. So the ticket price you see is the ticket price you pay," he continued. "This tour means the world to me and i want to make sure everyone gets in the door feeling right."

He concluded, "Also keep me posted if you encounter anything weird because i wanna know what you guys deal with and be able to take it right to the top of these companies and do my best to make it easier for bleachers fans and everyone. love you all! see you at FTSTTS ( just wait till you see this s—)."

Earlier this month, the "I Wanna Get Better" singers announced the upcoming album and released a nostalgic new single called "Alma Mater," which features guest vocals from the frontman's friend and collaborator  Lana Del Rey .

The self-titled album is set for a March 8 release via the record label Dirty Hit, and Bleachers also announced a five-date U.K. tour in promotion of the record for spring 2024.

"Alma Mater" marks Bleachers' latest release following the upcoming album's lead single "Modern Girl," an infectious pop-rock song reminiscent of  Bruce Springsteen  that features saxophones and a catchy chorus.

Antonoff, known as a go-to producer for artists like Del Rey,  Lorde  and  Taylor Swift , recently received a  2024 Grammy nomination  for producer of the year, non-classical, an award he won in 2022 and 2023 after receiving nominations in the category for two previous consecutive years.

Bleachers Announce 2024 U.S. Tour, Promises All-In Pricing

Bleachers, the Jack Antonoff-led indie-rockers, revealed “From the Studio to the Stage” 2024 U.S. tour in support of their forthcoming self-titled album, set to be released on March 8.

The band will hit the road for their nation-wide trek on May 18 starting from The Great Saltair in Salt Lake City, UT. They’ll conclude the month-long run at Shadow of the City in Asbury Park, NJ on June 15 after visiting several venues in cities like Kansas City, Chicago, Nashville, Austin, Boston, DC, and more. Samia will join the band as an opening act on select dates.

Two weeks ago, Antonoff announced the first dates of “From the Studio to the Stage” would be in the U.K., including stops in London (March 19-20), Manchester (March 22), Birmingham (March 23), and Glasgow (March 25).

Ahead of 2024 U.K. and U.S. tours, the band will also meet fans this December at Audacy Riptide Music Festival in Fort Lauderdale, as well as in Clearwater, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.

“Alma Mater,” the second single from Bleachers’ upcoming fourth studio album, dropped on November 15. Before the latest track, the band released “Modern Girl” as the first single from their album on September 20. They have delivered three studio albums so far, titled 2014’s Strange Desire , Gone Now in 2017, and  2021’s Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night.

The eight-time Grammy Award-winning musician and producer released a statement regarding the high costs consumers faced due to the added fees to the base price, ensuring, “the ticket price you see is the ticket price you pay.”

“We know there’s lots of issues and confusion when buying tickets to shows,” Antonoff said. “We will always do everything in our power to make this process as clean and transparent as possible for you all. We’ve had conversations from every single venue and promoter to the heads of the companies to limit fees and advertise only the total price to fans for as many shows as possible.”

“This tour means the world to me and I want to make sure everyone gets in the door feeling right,” he added. “Also keep me posted if you encounter anything weird because I wanna know what you guys deal with and be able to take it right to the top of these companies and do my best to make it easier for Bleachers fans and everyone.”

Back in September, Antonoff shared his views about the ongoing inflated ticket prices. He reposted President Biden’s tweet on X, which noted: “Concert tickets are hard enough to get, you shouldn’t have to pay surprise service fees on top of that. My Administration is working to crack down on those junk fees, so you know what you are paying for up front.”

“A show must be a place where an artist can set a price they believe in and can back up and then everyone can meet there at that price and enter that venue as equals,” Antonoff said in a reply to President Biden’s post.

Antonoff is the latest artist to speak-out regarding all-in ticketing. Last month, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) called-out Live Nation to make its all-in pricing view a default setting across Live Nation and Ticketmaster platforms. Live Nation responded that they had done this for the venues it owns and operates but does not have the ability to do so elsewhere.  Klobuchar, however, isn’t buying it. She told  NBC News  that the company could still be more transparent, noting, “They can show how much the ticket costs, and that’s what they need to do.”

A Live Nation pre-sale will begin on Wednesday, December 6 ahead of the general on-sale slated for Friday, December 8 via Ticketmaster. Fans can also obtain Bleachers tickets via MegaSeats (use code “TICKETNEWS” for 10% off), StubHub , or Ticket Club where members can receive a free membership with the code “TICKETNEWS.”

Bleachers is an American indie pop act based in New York City formed in 2014 by Fun guitarist Jack Antonoff.

Jack Antonoff, the talented singer/songwriter and guitarist found fame with pop group Fun and is credited as a co-writer of one of the band's most successful singles 'We Are Young'. He has also written music for pop heavyweights including Taylor Swift and Christina Perri. Whilst on the road with Fun, Antonoff found an outlet for his creative urges whilst travelling from city to city in Bleachers. His side project remained unknown until February 2014 when he released the single 'I Wanna Get Better'.

It received moderate chart success due to the singer's credibilities and notoriety as an artist formerly associated with Fun. Critics enjoyed the shimmering layer of pop gloss that had been applied to this release and the album 'Strange Desire' which came in the summer continued to accumulate accolades. It was released through RCA records and was met with chart success, debuting at #11 on the US Billboard Charts and #19 on the Canadian album charts.

The guitarist has been touring the US tirelessly throughout 2014 to promote the album's release, including at stop off at Austin City Limits. Despite the success and time that Antonoff has invested into this project, he has made it clear this is not a departure from Fun and he still remains committed to the band.

Live reviews

Although Bleachers only recently found their way into the public eye, their infectious melodies and truly impressive live show are tempting music fans of all generations to don the sweatbands and leg warmers characteristic of the iconic time the band represents: a near revival of sorts. At the helm is fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff: deer-in-the-headlights turned rockstar, whose 80s hipster persona and unusual presence lend themselves to the palpable happiness felt by everyone in attendance. The real highlights of any Bleachers show, however, are the live renditions of “I Wanna Get Better,” “Rollercoaster,” “Shadow,” and other crowd favorites, which feature melodies that are simply begging to be shouted without any regard for auditory well-being.

Bleachers is unique among its counterparts in that it boasts two drummers that, when paired with the band’s signature synthesized pop rhythms, create a fuller sound and more intense live experience. Each blistering guitar solo leaves Antonoff in some transient state of bliss achievable only through true musicianship, and the performance is truly captivating. Within minutes, Jack’s taken off his first layer of clothing, sweat is flying, and he’s replaced his initial reserved demeanor with one of confidence and passion.

For those on the fence about attending a Bleachers show, it is important to note that all aspects of it — the lights, the energy, the nostalgia-inducing sing-a-longs — are contagious and will undoubtedly leave you in that lovely state of post-concert haziness for weeks to come.

Seeing Bleachers in concert was a down-right euphoric experience. I stumbled upon their music in the fall of 2017, and I really liked their sound -- energetic, upbeat, tinged with melancholy, but ultimately optimistic -- it suited me. I generally connect more with indie folk, so I didn't put Bleachers in my listening rotation. Still, I was excited when I saw they were coming to my hometown, because had a feeling that their music would lend itself well to live performance.

Holy crap, was I ever right! The band had a ton of energy and seemed like they were having a hell of a good time. And so was the crowd -- everyone around me was singing and shouting the lyrics and dancing and jumping around -- it was impossible not to get swept up. Lead-singer Jack Antonoff was very personable with the audience, and I was especially touched when he talked about his relationship with music, how it connects people. It may not have been the most original speech, but he seemed genuine, and, yeah, I could relate (looks like I have a new fan-crush!). I definitely feel more of a personal connection to Bleachers' music now!

I've been going through some stuff recently, but this concert filled me with joy. It was, without a doubt, the best concert I've ever been to.

I've been to a number of concerts before, but that was honestly one of the best I've ever been to. With such a small venue, we were three people from the front and the up close experience was amazing. Royal Tongues was fantastic(!), the first time I've ever truly loved an opening act. The looong wait between the two bands was a bit rough, but it paid off with the show that Bleachers put on. For only 99 cents a ticket, this must have been one of the greatest concert values in history for what we got. With such an electric environment,I am so pumped to get back to Higher Ground for the Odesza concert in March!

The opening act was awesome and got the crowd involved and pumped for the Bleachers. As soon as the lights went out, the crowd went nuts. They knew what was about to happen. They were about to experience one of the best bands around. From the moment they stepped on stage to the second they stepped off, the Bleachers were nothing but perfection. They interacted with the crowd so much and played the perfect set list. They even came back on stage for two more songs! They were absolutely phenomenal and I hope to see them again and meet them the next time they come back here. Hawaii loves you Bleachers!

haley-lambert’s profile image

I saw the Bleachers @ the Crystal Ballroom which was amazing because we were able to get super close to the stage (one or two people away). I loved their energy & you could really see their passion in their performance. The crowd loved them and almost pulled Jack Antonoff into a crowd surf. However the openers, Miss and Bob Moses didn't really pump up the crowd and there were awkward transitions between acts.

ectobey3’s profile image

Absolutely the best concert I’ve ever been to. They were amazing live and performed a new song as well as all my favorites, even some off of old albums. The freestyle they did was also incredible. I for sure will be seeing them again as soon as they come anywhere near me. The only issue I had was how short it was (which isn’t their fault because it could never be long enough).

sierrawise97’s profile image

As always Jack and his supporting cast put on a great show. They bring great energy and good vibes. Jack makes the crowd feel accepted and his effort to make the people who come to his shows feel appreciated. I love how the band will have a mini jam sesh where Jack and Evan go back and forth trying to one up each other. Overall great experience and an awesome show!

jarom-nelson’s profile image

Unbelievable! They had insane amounts of energy, and the venue was surprisingly good! The crowd got so into the music, in big part due to their humor, their attempts to engage the crowd, and the amount of fun they looked like they were having up there. Easy to say I have to see them every time they come to town now!

I saw Bleachers I think 2 years ago in Boston and they impressed me. They put on a very fun, interactive show. They played all of their songs and their cover selection was spot on. This show was no different, amazing from beginning to end. My wife loved them so much, we hope to see them up in Portland again!

Of course the Bleachers gets its name from the bench-style seating with no back. For regular season games the entire area is general admission meaning fans are able to sit anywhere in the outfield. Front row seats near the baskets and aisle seats are typically among the most popular options for those who arrive early.

Things to Know When Sitting in the Bleachers

During day games, fans are exposed to the sun all day and should come prepared. For night games, those seated in right field will be looking into the sun until it sets.

There is only one location of restrooms for the entire bleachers section located down the ramps in center field. This can lead to long lines at times, but if timed right a trip can be made quickly.

There are several options for concessions in both the upper and lower concourses. Concessions located underneath the center field scoreboard offer some of the most unique food options at Wrigley. You will find long lines at stands located on the same level as the seats. However, take a trip down to the lower concourse near the restroom and you will find less of a wait.

While in the past this was a location that would be discouraged for families due to its party reputation (Bleacher Bums), Wrigley has made strides in becoming more friendly out in the outfield. Some fans will still seek out these seats for that reputation however.

Are Bleacher Seats at Wrigley Field Assigned?

No, for regular season games bleacher seating at Wrigley Field is general admission. Be sure to show up early to claim the best spots. Spots in the front row and along the aisles will be taken quickly. Left field will typically fill up faster as well since is is out of the direct sun for the start of night games.

For post-season games seating becomes reserved. The bleachers on the seating chart will convert to 500 numbered sections and tickets will be given a section, row and seat number.

Note: These seats are highlighted on the map

Bleachers Reviews

Better the earlier you arrive.

Baseball Review Bleachers, Row GA

I frequent the bleachers at Wrigley Field. I am a big baseball fan and enjoy arriving early and watching batting practice. The opportunities to catch batting practice home runs are endless if the wind is blowing out. It is also pretty easy to get the attention of the players catching the balls in the outfield. Since I arrive early, I never have a problem getting a spot just a couple rows behind the outfield fence. However, arrive closer to game time and your options could be limited. Much of it depends on the weather and who the Cubs are playing that day. If you're in a large group and want to sit together get there early. If you're choosing between left or right field, always choose left field. The left side is less affected by the sun for both day and night games. The Cubs bullpen is also located below the left field bleachers and the relievers are not shy about throwing balls to fans. There are some down sides. None of seats in the bleachers have a back rest, so be careful if you're someone with a bad back or bringing someone elderly. There is only one restroom location for the entire bleachers section located down the stairs or ramp at ground level. If seeing the videoboards is important to you, right field or the low rows in left are the best options.

NEVER AGAIN IN THE BLEACHERS

Baseball Review Bleachers

Worst idea in a long time. Sounds great, stinks in real life. If I had 30 people I would do it because it is your only chance to be near each other, the problem is we showed up 20 minutes before first pitch and there wasn't a seat in the bleachers. Fans in the know said we needed to get there hours before first pitch. We stood the entire time and watched the game on tv by the concessions. A complete waste and we had 2 older people with us who left and got seats from a scalper so they could sit. Maybe if I was 21, but not at 43 and definitely not if you are a senior or have a child.

These seats have a great view with close proximity to all the necessary amenities!

These seats are great for going with a big group, because it is not assigned seating so you can easily all sit together. It is close to food, beverages, and bathrooms. I have also never experienced a long line when trying to get in. But, if you are on the older side, I would recommend a different section, because this section tends to be filled with loud energetic young people, and there is also no back support because the seating is benches.

Great seats but...

Had a great view of the game from the bleachers, but on super sunny and hot days, it could become uncomfortable. Also, our seats were in the front where there was a small wall obstructing some the view slightly if you were sat down.

Perfect views, perfect area in the bleachers to take in a game.

Seating & ticket questions, how are the bleachers configured for the postseason at wrigley field.

During the regular season all seating in the Bleachers is general admission, with the only exceptions being the Budweiser Patio seats near the right field corner (Sections 516-518), and the Bleacher Suite just above the batters eye area in Center Field....  Read More

Where is BLCHR4 row GA seat 3699 located on the seating chart? Is there anything else we should know about these seats?

These tickets are located in the Bleacher section at Wrigley Field. This is a very large section that takes up the entire outfield seating area. During the regular season, bleacher tickets are general admission, meaning your ticket does not have a reserved seat. Instead, seats are done on a first come first served basis and you can sit anywhere within the section. Of course, the earlier you arrive to the ballpark the better selection you will have for your seats. Gates will open 2 hours before game time. You should also be aware that bleacher seating does not have seat backs. The only seats with back rests are those in the last rows. For day games, there is also no protection from the sun so come prepared!

Recommended inexpensive seats for first time Wrigley attendees?  September game. At this point, I realize seats are limited.

The cheapest seats at Wrigley Field will always be found in the upper deck (300 and 400 level) and the back rows of the 200 sections. The upper deck was renovated before the 2019 season bringing more restroom and food options for fans sitting in these seats. Sections 303-331 will be free of obstructions and have a great view overlooking the field and taking in the entire Wrigley atmosphere. Moving up to the 400 level, there are poles that come in at the first row in most sections. To guarantee an unobstructed view, we suggest only looking in the front row of these sections. The bleachers are one of the most unique places to sit in all of baseball and can be on the cheaper side, but are not for everyone due to the fact there are no seat backs and it is first come first served....  Read More

I think the whole stadium has atmosphere. The bleachers are party central, so if that is your scene, it could be fun, it was for me when I lived near the park when I was in my 20's. Today I wouldn't choose bleachers because no vendors come to you, you have to go wait in line for food and drink at the concession stand. When you get back, your seat may be taken because it's just benches, not reserved seats. And only one bathroom.

Also I know you're going to SF as part as your road trip within the US so you can use stubhub for reasonable tickets when you see the Oakland A's, hope this info helps you!

Yes you can get season tickets for the bleachers. Yes all is true about the atmosphere at a game there. I still enjoy the bleachers. You do need to be there very early for the best spot. Crazy $90! I would wait till closer to the game.

The bleachers at Wrigley are very popular so tend to have high prices. They are in the sun and a lot of people Treat it like an outdoor sports bar. Look at Stubhub.com to see if you can get cheaper prices. Or pick a different day. Prices vary by opponent and day if the week, although anything in July will be busy.

@post1 there’s more bathrooms now. With a bleacher ticket you can now access the concourse in the grandstand, too.

How early do you need to arrive to secure a decent seat?

It's the White Sox game that I'm looking at so that might ex p lain the price?

People line up 2 hours before the game.

Two hours before game when the gates open, and, yes, if it’s a Sox game that will be more expensive.

Anyway I know you'll be in Chicago 4-5 days before your road trip but I don't know What days you'll be here so I was looking at the July 18th game versus Cincinnati and the cheapest seat is $49 with the bleacher seats being $76 and the July 19th game versus Cincinnati has the cheapest seat at $59 and the bleacher seats at $89 so you do have options, keep an eye on stubhub and depending on your dates in Chicago the Chicago White Sox has a home game on July 23rd with seats starting at $7.

In case you don't know the Cubs and White Sox each year play games against each other at Wrigley Field and Comiskey Park (yea, I still call it that even though it's Guaranteed Rate Field), it's known as the Subway or Red Line series because the CTA's Red Line trains stops at both stadiums so with that said whether you see a Cubs or White Sox game from downtown you can be safe taking the train and not worried about paying $$$ for parking. I hope this info helps, any other questions do ask!

Oh he's putting out more. I'm sure the west coast will be getting love in the fall. There no way he's going to only have a tour this small.
