BRUNO MAJOR TOUR OF PLANET EARTH 2023

BrunoMajor_679x514.jpg

After five years,  Bruno Major  is returning to the Philippines as part of the Asian leg of his  Tour of Planet Earth 2023 .

The British singer-songwriter made his Philippine debut at Karpos Live in 2018 and was initially set to come back in 2020 to perform at the then canceled Wanderland Music & Arts Festival. In that same year, he released his sophomore album,  To Let A Good Thing Die  and by the looks of it, a third album is set to be released this July 2023.

There’s been a lot of new music yet to be heard live and lucky for us, we’ll be charmed by it all soon.

Major's music is a mixture of R&B, soul, and jazz melodies with vulnerable, straight-to-the-point lyrics and soothing vocals. He is the perfect soundtrack for falling in and out of love and finding beauty in spite of it all. You can expect to be spellbound by his old-fashioned romanticism as he pours his soul and emotion on stage this August 15 at the New Frontier Theater.

Bruno Major: Tour of Planet Earth

bruno mars tour of planet earth

The following description comes from the event organizer.

The word "authenticity" has become ubiquitous when describing artists and musicians today, but when you encounter Bruno Major, you understand just how misused that term has become. Bruno has ascended the ranks to become, by many definitions, a globally influential artist, but has done so entirely on his own terms. The antihero of music stardom, Bruno has been completely uncompromising in his craft, creating unrivaled lyrical landscapes that don't conform to the musical status quo of today, but still deeply resonate with fans, as evidenced by his billion stream career, propelled by viral hits "Nothing" and "Easily."

Bruno splices classic singer-songwriter confessionals with sleek modern electronic production, girding the entire enterprise with hints of soul. His dedication to sincerity and immediacy in his craft was solidified via his 2017 debut record A Song For Every Moon. Recorded and released independently, the record gained powerful word-of-mouth momentum internationally with key single "Easily" RIAA-certified Platinum in North America. Its 2020 follow-up, To Let a Good Thing Die was similarly far reaching, a beautifully crafted tapestry of stories of human relationships, love and heartbreak, and existential musings; one single, "The Most Beautiful Thing," emerged from a special co-writing session with producer and pop luminary FINNEAS, and another standout track "Nothing" is RIAA-certified Gold in North America. Across the two albums, Bruno has amassed over 1.5 billion collective streams to date.

Bruno is trained as a classical guitarist and has earned support from the likes of Sam Smith, Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth, Lianne La Havas, Hailey Bieber, and Kourtney Kardashian, to name a few. Prior to the pandemic, he toured extensively, selling over 50,000 headline tickets, made his TV debut on the Late Late Show with James Corden, his festival debut at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, and opened for Sam Smith's European arena tour. Now in 2023, as he divides his time between London and Los Angeles, he prepares for his first release in three years-his most ambitious album yet.

Bruno Major on his return to Asia: "It’s definitely gonna be the best show I’ve ever put on."

Bruno Major on his return to Asia: "It’s definitely gonna be the best show I’ve ever put on."

Bruno Major   is the kind of artist that really blooms on a live stage. There's more weight to his songs when experienced live, lyrics and melodies taking new shapes and forms as they unfold infront of our very eyes.

The last three years have stopped us from really experiencing the British singer-songwriter's music to its fullest; but starting this August, he's making up for lost time with his Tour Of Planet Earth . "I feel like when you write a song or you make a piece of music, it doesn't really feel like you've finished it until you've played it on stage. It’s part of the creative process for me. So I'm looking forward to completing not only my new album, but my second album because I never got to play that one live because of COVID," Bruno tells  Bandwagon .

bruno mars tour of planet earth

As he kicks of his tour—which sees dates in Manila , Singapore, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and more, Bandwagon  caught up with the  'Easily'  act to talk about his return to the region, his creative process, and going back on a live stage.

BANDWAGON TV

We can’t wait to see you in asia again what can your fans expect from your upcoming tour .

I’m currently in rehearsals at the moment putting the show together. So I’m not entirely sure what you can expect yet. But I will tell you that it’s a whole new show, whole new band, whole new set, new crew, new lighting and everything. It’s definitely gonna be the best show I’ve ever put on.

What’s it like returning to so many of these cities again? Is there anything you look forward to doing again or for the first time?

So I can't wait to come and meet all my fans from all these different countries, even now it's still mind blowing to me that I get to come to places on the other side of the world and there are people who want to hear my music

Hopefully I'll have a little bit more time, last time I was there, I didn't really get much time to hang out because I was in the show and then I left so yeah. Hopefully this time I can maybe go to some restaurants and check out some places and experience a bit more of the culture.

What do you hope your fans take away when watching one of your concerts?

It’s been three and a half years since I played a show and I can't wait to come and play for you all and thank you so much for your support over the years cause it really means a lot.

Your songs have always been so intimate and bittersweet, what is it like performing them in front of a large crowd?

I'm looking forward to playing these songs to people. Because I feel like when you write a song or you make a piece of music, it doesn't really feel like you've finished it until you've played it on stage. It’s part of the creative process for me. So I'm looking forward to completing not only my new album, but my second album because I never got to play that one live because of COVID.

What are some of your favourite songs to perform live and why?

Well, I don't really know, because I haven't done any shows for three and a half years. So I haven't played any songs from my second album. So we're going to have to see which one is my favorite one. But I do know that the new stuff is a lot more fun to play. And we just started rehearsals last week. So yeah, it's going to be great.

Bruno Major returning to Manila this August 2023

It’s been a long time coming.

After five years, Bruno Major is returning to the Philippines as part of the Asian leg of his Tour of Planet Earth 2023.

The British singer-songwriter made his Philippine debut at Karpos Live in 2018 and was initially set to come back in 2020 to perform at the then canceled Wanderland Music & Arts Festival. In that same year, he released his sophomore album, To Let A Good Thing Die and by the looks of it, maybe the third album this 2023 as he just released a new single, We Were Never Really Friends.

There’s been a lot of new music yet to be heard live and lucky for us, we’ll be charmed by it all soon.

Bruno Major quickly caught the spotlight when he completed his 12-track debut album, A Song For Every Moon, after releasing a song every full moon, a.k.a. every month. It was a very unconventional and personal project for Major but was a testament to his dedication, talent, creativity, and overall brand as an artist.

The whole astronomical concept to his brand is so cohesive, his album covers have well thought out meanings and stories to tell as well, as very intricately designed by Rob Shuttleworth.

When it comes to Major’s music, you can tell that he’s an old-fashioned romantic. The mixture of R&B, soul and jazz melodies with vulnerable, straight to the point lyrics and soothing vocals runs through his entire catalog. He is the soundtrack of falling in and out of love and finding beauty in spite of it all.

If there’s something we remember about being in a Bruno Major show, it feels exactly like that–a confident charming crooner singing delicately about love with the audience clutching their chests as he pours his soul and emotion on stage.

“The beauty of Major’s music can truly be found in its simplicity,” the L.A. Times says and we couldn’t agree more.

Get to know Bruno Major through his songs!

Bruno Major is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist. He first gained attention with his 2016 debut single Wouldn’t Mean a Thing , which was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist.

Since then, he has released several extended plays (EP) and two full-length albums, A Song for Every Moon in 2017 and To Let A Good Thing Die in 2020.

He dropped his newest single called We Were Never Really Friends several hours before the announcement of his world tour.

Major’s music is often characterized by his soulful and smooth voice and acoustic guitar-based instrumentation.

His lyrics frequently explore themes of love, heartbreak, and the human condition. He has cited artists such as Jeff Buckley, D’Angelo, and Radiohead as influences on his music.

For instance, in his debut song Wouldn’t Mean a Thing, the lyrics express a feeling of uncertainty about a relationship, with Major singing lines such as “Tell me why you love me, I don’t know / If it’s for real or just for show.”

He also acknowledges the possibility that the relationship might not last, singing “Maybe we’ll crash and burn, maybe we’ll leave a legacy.”

The song’s simple yet emotionally resonant lyrics, combined with Major’s soulful vocals and understated guitar playing, have helped to make it one of his most popular and enduring tracks.

Meanwhile, another fan-favorite track, The Most Beautiful Thing, describes a person’s profound sense of love and appreciation for someone.

The song’s chorus features Major repeating the phrase “I love you” over and over, with the intensity of his voice increasing with each repetition.

While the song is undoubtedly a love song, its meaning is open to interpretation. Some listeners may interpret the lyrics as being about romantic love, while others may hear it as being about a deep sense of connection with a friend, family member, or even a higher power.

Overall, The Most Beautiful Thing is a powerful and emotionally resonant song that showcases Major’s ability to capture complex emotions in simple yet profound lyrics.

In addition to his solo work, Major has also collaborated with other artists, including producer SG Lewis on the track Times We Had and singer-songwriter Liv Dawson on the song Hush .

He has also performed as the opening act for artists such as Sam Smith, Nick Mulvey, and Lianne La Havas.

NASA admits plan to bring Mars rocks to Earth won’t work — and seeks fresh ideas

NASA announced today that it is abandoning its long-standing plan for ferrying rock and soil samples from Mars to Earth . Instead, the agency will seek proposals for quicker and cheaper ways to deliver the samples to Earth.

An independent review board concluded last year that NASA’s Mars sample return mission could cost as much as US$11 billion , more than the cost of launching the James Webb Space Telescope . In a report released today , a separate NASA review team concluded that even if the agency spent that much money, the samples would not reach Earth until 2040. The agency had originally sought to drop the samples on Earth in the early 2030s.

The $11-billion price tag is “too expensive”, said NASA administrator Bill Nelson at a press briefing, and “not returning the samples until 2040 is unacceptable”. Nelson said the agency “is committed to bringing at least some of the samples back” and later said NASA would return “more than 30” of the 43 planned samples.

Scaling back

NASA’s Perseverance rover has already collected more than 20 rock samples from Jezero Crater, where the rover landed in 2021. Scientists think that the crater was once filled with a lake of water, and samples from the crater and its surroundings could provide a window into the planet’s history and, perhaps, evidence of past life on the red planet.

In the agency’s original vision , a NASA spacecraft would have flown to Mars carrying a two-part retrieval system: a 2.3-tonne lander — which would have been the heaviest vehicle ever to land on Mars — and a rocket to fly the lander and samples into Martian orbit. There, they were to meet a spacecraft launched by the European Space Agency that would fly the samples to Earth.

Now, NASA plans to solicit proposals — from companies as well as NASA centres — for a streamlined system, perhaps using a lighter lander, said Nicky Fox, the associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, at the briefing. The deadline for proposals is 17 May, and the revised mission will be chosen later this year. Fox did not respond directly to reporters’ questions about when the samples will reach Earth under the new scheme.

NASA recommends spending $200 million of its planetary-science budget for 2025 on assessing alternative architectures for Mars sample return, Fox said. Dedicating any more money to the mission threatened to “cannibalize” other planetary science missions, Nelson said.

Back to the drawing board

Vicky Hamilton, a planetary scientist at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado, expressed disappointment that almost eight months after the independent review board released its report, the agency still lacks a solid plan for “a very valuable science goal.”

Returning these samples would also demonstrate capability for a two-way trip to Mars before astronauts make the journey, says Bethany Ehlmann, a planetary scientist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California. “The sample-return technology is here, it exists,” she says. “It’s a matter of putting the pieces together.”

But scientists were relieved about one announcement: Fox said the revised timeline for sample return will not affect the science goals for Perseverance, including plans for it to explore terrain beyond Jezero Crater .

bruno mars tour of planet earth

NASA’s Mars rover makes ‘fantastic’ find in search for past life

Among samples collected outside the crater will be “some of the ancient crust of Mars, representing rocks older than we have seen yet in Jezero Crater, some of which may have been altered by near-surface water”, says Meenakshi Wadhwa , a planetary scientist at Arizona State University in Tempe and principal scientist for the Mars sample return programme.

So far, the only Mars samples that scientists have been able to study on Earth are bits and pieces ejected from the red planet that made it to Earth as meteorites. All known Martian meteorites are igneous rocks, meaning that they solidified from lava, and all are very old. They provide valuable timestamps for parts of Mars’s geological evolution, but carry little information about how the planet’s surface was shaped by the water that once flowed across it.

To achieve the mission’s main goal of searching for signs of past life, the real treasures are layered sedimentary rocks formed by minerals and organic matter deposited over the eons by water. Perseverance’s instruments have already detected organic molecules in Martian samples , but whether those molecules are a marker of past life can be determined only by closer scrutiny in laboratories on Earth.
