We scheduled a tour this Memorial Day weekend, but tried to reschedule it from Saturday to Sunday due to the heavy rain. Despite emailing Lord Chaz hours in advance we never received a respond or confirmation of reschedule. We decide to show up Sunday at the same meeting spot (Johnny White's hole in the wall) at 7:00. We waited until 7:45 (tour started at 7:30) and nobody arrived. We tried reaching out again via phone call and email. Finally we gave up. I emailed Lord Chaz requesting a refund because we had to leave Monday morning. We still have not heard anything back from him, and as such, felt obligated to leave a 1/5 on Yelp. It's. Shame, because this tour was recommended by a good friend and we were really lookin forward to it

Lord Chaz was fantastic! His persona is very charming and inviting, and the tour is very theatrical. Honestly it's campy, spooky, intriguing, and just a lot of fun. Lord Chaz is an artist, weaving history, magic, and a little macabre into a very fun and easy couple of hours.

Great tour of the Lafayette cemetery #1 and mansion tour of the garden district. Our guide, Jackson, was very knowledgeable and well worth the nominal cost. A definite must when visiting the Garden District.

Our group of 4 adults took the Ghosts & Vampire Tour. We have been on many ghost tours in many cities. But this one was the most entertaining of them all. Lord Chaz' storytelling and theatrics make the tour. His booming voice makes it easy for everyone to hear, even if you are not right next to him. Many people have different expectations about what a ghost your should be. ALL the tours that I have taken have been storytelling, myths, legends, facts & occasionally some fiction. Some people expect ghost hunting and/or ghost sightings and stuff. This tour is not a ghost hunting tour. You will walk to certain buildings where something was said to have occurred and Lord Chaz will tell you the stories. We passed by other tour guides and none seemed to exude the energy that Lord Chaz did. His prices are comparable to others that are more publicized, but in my opinion he offers a better product. We actually wanted to join his cemetery tour the next day, but we did not wake up on time. Maybe next time.

Really fun tour! Chaz had a lot of personality and definitely kept everyone's attention throughout. I had previously heard about two of the stories he told but not in as much detail as he was able to give them, which was a lot of fun and a nice plus. We were also lucky (?) Enough to have a huge thunder and lightening storm pass through near the end of the tour and the lightening and thunder kept perfectly punctuating his lines. Haha. All together really fun time, great stories, unbiased opinions, and an all around entertaining evening.

Lord Chaz is the GOAT. His tour is by far the best I have ever been on. He is 100% the real deal and is so very interactive with his meals I mean guests that it's hard not to have a good time. I hope if you choose this adventure your looking for a good time. Enjoy it as people like Lord Chaz come along once in a lifetime. We have been on hundreds of tours and by far he was the most entertaining of them all. Relax and enjoy the show!!!

Chaz was a decent tour guide, but the tour was just slightly too scripted and canned. His assistant, the girl, was very theatrical and her "jokes" were on command almost. I liked the ghost stories, though, but I wish it was scarier. Chaz did some... I don't want to call it theatrics.... but a "demonstration" at the end of the tour. I'll leave it up to you guys to decide for yourselves!

A friend of ours who bartends in the French Quarter recommended this tour to us. We have been to NOLA 5 times and had yet to take a ghost tour. Our guide was Jackson and due to it being a slow week we were the only ones on the tour. It was a lucky thing for us because we got our own personal tour. Jackson was so knowledgeable and gave us facts not fiction about the history of New Orleans. Serial killers, ghosts, real life vampires and so much more. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend this tour.

I come to NOLA a couple times a year. My first time my friend and I had the luck and pleasure of getting a tour from Thomas. We've been fans ever since. We've probably been on 4 or 5 of his tours over the years and every time we learn completely new interesting things. His breadth of knowledge is vast and depending on your interest and questions, he's able to jump down all kinds of historical rabbit holes. This time we took the True Crimes tour (we've done more supernatural/haunted ones before) and learned so many new things about the French Quarter we hadn't heard before. Fascinating info given with great theatrical flair that keeps us coming back. Can't recommend him enough!

Well worth it!

Make sure to request Professor Alexander (and yes, he really is a college professor). His superb knowledge of New Orleans history made for an extra interesting tour. Not so much scary to me personally, but very informative, especially if you are a history nut like I am. He was charming and entertaining. Loved his fangs, outfit and laid back style. Highly recommended!

Lord Chaz's Ghost and Vampire Tour was so good, we actually left the the other haunted tour we paid for and just followed his tour from a distance listening eagerly. I will definitely sign up for his tour the next time I'm in New Orleans so I can get the full experience...and hear everything he's saying LOL!

Don't bother looking at any other tours to do - this was the BEST. We did it on a Sunday evening with Alexander, and the knowledge he shared combined with his storytelling abilities and humor, made him so credible and for the best evening. I actually felt bad for those on the other tours - huge groups, I don't even think they could hear their tour guide. We had a small, intimate group and I felt comfortable asking questions and just had the best experience. If you want the real story about the city of New Orleans, look no further than here. He encouraged us to come back as the tours are always different. I can't speak more highly of the tour. You will not regret it!!!!

First time in New Orleans, wanted something different and it was recommended to do a Ghost Tour. After research on Trip Advisor, Lord Chaz was the favorite! I had originally booked it for 2/6/15 but, I received a call that Lord Chaz was snowed in up north and could not make it so we changed it for the next night which was my daughter's 21st Birthday, even better. We were a party of 5 and there were others that joined in, the wait was worth it, what an interesting and capitivating evening! We met on Bourbon Street at Johnny's and Lord Chaz greeted the Birthday Girl and escorted her across the street to a gift shop and told her to pick out a gift of her choice....a birthday gift from Lord Chaz. After all parties arrived we went on our tour of the French Quarter and were told famous chillin stories of the past. As we toured, we noticed other Ghost Tours on the streets and those patrons seemed bored, they did not seem interested. Lord Chaz told us of the quarter's history and always stayed in character. We did stop at the Quarter's Oldest Tavern for a restroom and drink break and then carried on. We enjoyed taking his pulse and were entertained by his pencil trick....can't tell you about it, you must experience it for yourself!

We took this tour and had Alexandar Adams as our guide! The contacts and fangs were a great addition, but his knowledge of history and his descriptions of the reality of New Orleans were scarier than any hyped-up tour. I was so scared by the actual events and documented murders/serial killers/fires/skeletons that by the end I was sure I was being stalked by some sort of evil type. Worth every cent - and belive me, I've done ghost tours in many cities. This was the first I would do again. Absolutely the best!

Husband and I took the ghost tour tonight with professor Alexander. He did a great job of keeping tour participants invested in the tour. Alex was dressed as a vampire, down to the teeth. He took a historical standpoint but was not boring at all. We learned many things about New Orleans culture that were new despite several trips here in the past.

Joshua and Katrina were an absolute pleasure on our tour! They were extremely knowledgeable about the history behind the stories they told, and they obviously LOVE New Orleans and it’s culture, which I think is SO important when you’re dealing with drunk idiot tourists all the time. I wish we could have covered more locations, but I’m sure it would take days to get into the thick of the ghastly, gory, gruesome (alliteration there) that is New Orleans history. I would pay to hang out with them just to hear more! Not to mention Katrina is a bombshell with a personality and intelligence to match! We really will recommend them to everyone 🙂

Ghost and Vampire Tour in New Orleans

NAFB members covering the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 100 th annual convention, held January 2019 in New Orleans, were treated to a ghost and vampire tour of the French Quarter by the Big Easy’s premiere vampire Lord Chaz . New Orleans boasts a colorful and often-tragic history. Tour participants heard of infamous murders, suicides, and other tragedies that have inspired such famous authors as Anne Rice , Poppy Z . Brite , and Robert Lynn Aspirin .

Carey Martin (Voice of Louisiana Agriculture Radio Network) organized the two-hour tour on both Saturday and Sunday nights of the convention. The tour took broadcasters and Farm Bureau media staff through the streets of New Orleans’ French Quarter to explore many unsolved murders and haunted buildings on the original streets of the Crescent City. Tour participants also learned about the origins of many vampire-related stories and legends that have made New Orleans famous in both literature and movies. The tour was led by Lord Chaz , who started the very first tours of the French Quarter’s dark side nearly 30 years ago. “He put on a show for the nation’s ag communicators, including a blood-letting finale that can never be forgotten,” Martin says. Martin adds he is happy to host another tour for farm broadcasters who may have missed out on the experience. “Any time a farm broadcaster is in New Orleans to cover a meeting, please contact me and I’ll be happy to set something up,” Martin adds.

I lived in the Memphis area for two years. When my sister and gourmand brother-in-law came for a visit, they asked to eat barbecue. We ate at every popular barbecue place including Germantown Commissary, Rendezvous, and Corky’s in a weekend for every lunch and dinner. I’ll be honest, I haven’t enjoyed barbecue since. During my same stint in Memphis, a cousin and his family stopped by for a visit in their RV. They were doing a music tour of Tennessee. You get where I’m going with this. Whenever I visit a city, I approach it from an artistic aesthetic. I want to see art galleries and museums, street art and buskers (a street performer who does his shtick for gratuities), the weirder the better.

I had the good fortune of spending this past week in New Orleans, in the French Quarter, with a quick trip out to Houma for a swamp tour. I love traveling to cities that have cool cultural scenes and New Orleans didn’t disappoint. It is a delicious, dirty, theatrical city with tons going on. For Chicagoans, it’s only a fourteen-hour drive. If you make stops at places like Two Sisters Kitchen in Jackson, Mississippi, the drive is almost fun!

Once I arrive in a new city, I have found that one of the best ways to see it is on the back of a bike. You cover a lot of ground but can easily stop to look at something or take photos. We went on an Esplanade bike tour with Bob of Big Easy Bike Tours . He was the first of many characters that we would meet in New Orleans. He was knowledgeable and interesting but did not appreciate stupid questions, which seemed to be how he viewed every query that came out of my mouth. There was one thing he said that stuck with me and that I found to be true: New Orleanians are into self-expression as exemplified by its colorful architecture. We told Bob we were going on a ghost and vampire tour later in the week and he rolled his eyes.

On our first afternoon, we walked around the French Market District with the kids. We looked at dried alligator heads and alligator foot back scratchers. We bought a flask for my eleven-year-old to use as a water bottle. We listened to musicians in Jackson Square and others tucked away in store entrances and on street corners. My daughter went into a swoon when one busker took off her shoe and hammered a nail into her nose. Another performer jumped on broken glass with his bare feet and swallowed two swords at once. We saw a workman, carrying a piece of wood climb a ladder to nowhere.

We traveled out to Houma for Annie Miller’s Son’s Swamp Boat Tour . I imagined we’d be gliding through a swamp while alligators thrashed about and we’d see those cool fishing huts with a boat tied out front. It was quite different. We froze our butts off and did not see one alligator. The saving grace was Jimmy’s fabulous stories about his mom cracking alligators on the back of the heads with an axe handle and then skinning them. I would’ve paid to sit with him in the warm Bayou Delight or better yet, a dark bar in the French Quarter, drinking a cold Abita Beer, and listening to his tales of Annie in the swamp!

I’ll admit that I love vampire stories. I’ve read Bram Stoker’s Dracula and seen a few Dracula movies. I’ve read the Twilight series and seen those movies as well. But my all-time favorite vampire stories are still The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, which I read back in the 80s. Walking around the French Quarter at night with gas lamps burning, gives you the eerie feeling that maybe vampires do exist.

My husband booked us on a Lord Chaz Ghost and Vampire Tour . We all met at Johnny White’s Hole in the Wall on Bourbon Street where I got a Kir Royale to go. If you’re a drinker, you can walk around the city of New Orleans with an open container of booze. Lord Chaz is a 6’7″ (with his black platform shoes), vampire-looking guy with pale eyes, long black hair and a flair for drama. He implied that he was a vampire, because of his eyes that never blink and the fact that he can stop his pulse. He had himself declared dead and has his death certificate is posted on the wall of the bar.

One of the things I love about all artists is that they make something out of nothing with just an idea and energy. I especially admire the tenacity and ingenuity of street performers. Lord Chaz has a love of the occult and New Orleans lends itself to that. Chaz has created a persona, which has apparently been successful for over twenty years.

The walking tour was fun and loosely based on folklore. The coup de grace of his lengthy story-telling tour was when he dug his own very long, painted fingernails into his arm and drew blood. He then wrapped his arm in a cloth, which he later removed and showed that he had completely healed, as vampires are wont to do.

The image that sticks in my mind as the evening ended is this: Lord Chaz walking off down a dark street, his top-hatted silhouette in the distance. It was that image that made me think that perhaps he is a vampire. As we headed back to our hotel, slightly spooked, a pale man in Victorian era clothes and a top hat strolled past us on the street. Busker or vampire…
