The best photos of our guests., testimonials, our reviews about this tour, amazing horse back riding and cotopaxi hike to base camp.

We had an amazing tour with Pedro and Carolina! There was great communication as soon as we booked the trip. The vehicle was very comfortable and clean. Pedro arrived promptly for our tour. We started with a nice drive to Cotopaxi National Park. Pedro shared a lot of information about the history of the area which was great to learn. We started with a two and a half hour horse ride. It was both our first time riding a horse and the team was patient with clear direction. We really had a fun time Doing this. Pedro was very accommodating and let us do slightly shorter ride so that I could have an opportunity to climb to base camp of Cotopaxi! It was completely exhilarating and one of the highlights of my trip to Ecuador. After we visited a lagoon to bird watch and then had a very nice meal. Pedro also arranged to drop us off at a safe bus stop so we could travel to Ambato after the tour since we were half way there. He did offer a transfer himself but we felt safe to take the bus. Thanks for an amazing tour! Everyone needs to try! 10/10.

The colors and the mountains make the changes from “ Paramo ” to eroded land full of different color patches. At the distance, we will see the Eastern Mountain Chain . The ride continues thru several hills, arriving to a small village called Isinlivi founded in 1857. Here we will find our Lodge for the night.

In the morning, we will take a small walk to get the horses on a hill a viewpoint of the Canyon formed by several eruptions of Quilotoa volcano . We will then start our ride up hill to reach the Quilotoa crater lake Volcano. Crossing a few villages and paths we discover the same agriculture from hundred years as lupins, potatoes, quinoa and barley. Volcano pumice and dry soil hinder agriculture thus, just a few people live on this region. Quilotoa volcano erupted 1,280 years ago, the volcano summit is at 4,000 meters above sea level, where our Lodge is awaiting. At the edge of the volcano we will enjoy and amazing view of the breathtaking Quilotoa Crater Lake. The 3-kilometer-wide caldera was formed by the collapse of this volcano after the last eruption. The water color changes with the light.

Overnight: Quilotoa Lodge

We will ride through a dramatic landscape, including steep ravines. We start at 2900 meters and will ascend to 4000 meters high. Even though we can visualize where we are heading and it looks near, we will have to cross several mountains chains to get there. This area is a combination of forest, rock peaks and eroded land from the past centuries. Tasting blueberry wine at a small operation on the mountain. We finish the ride on the sacred Wingopana Rock at 4000 meters  We will make our way back to our Hacienda by car for dinner and overnight at home.

Breakfast and finish of our services. Transfer to airport.

Pace: Moderate, trots and canters.

Tack: The saddles are traditional Ecuadorian "Chagra" style and very comfortable, with a sheepskin cover and spacious saddlebags for a rain poncho and waterproof chaps. The horses are ridden with Pelham bits, but some have other styles or are ridden bitless, with bridles made from local leather/rawhide.

Horses: Most of the horses have been bred on the farm from mixed Criollo, Arab and draft horses. They are generally smaller in size but there are larger and smaller options available. These horses are sure-footed, controllable and some are even gaited.

Health: You should be fit and in good health, capable of riding long distances at high altitudes.

This trip is only suitable for riders who have previous experience and are physically capable, as there will be long days of riding lasting up to 7 hours. The terrain will be mountainous and at high altitudes, so riders should be prepared for a challenging ride.

  • S Silvana 6 Jun, 2023 about provider Honestly, it exceeded all my expectations. It's a total paradise for nature lovers and anyone seeking peace and quiet. Gabriel, his lovely wife Patty, Guido and Mauricio went above and beyond to make sure we had the best possible stay. The Hacienda is just stunning, with a huge, well-kept garden and beautiful interior. The rooms offer breathtaking views, charming touches and everything you could possibly need for a short or long stay. They made sure we were never hungry, and the food was absolutely delicious. Of course, my main focus was horseback riding. The Quilotoa Tour left me speechless at times. The scenery changed every day - from crossing fields to climbing mountains, riding through clouds, sun, rain and even hail. There wasn't a dull moment. And I have to mention the horses - they're incredible. Strong, patient, gentle and safe - they're simply amazing. Thanks, Gabriel for making each day so special! P.S.: Hope Charlie is doing well 😉 6 Jun, 2023

Horse riding Ecuador

Horse riding around Cotopaxi volcano

Horse riders will love this horse riding tour around Cotopaxi volcano. You can set the pace – we can design the perfect riding tour in Cotopaxi National Park – be you beginner or advanced or anything in between.

Trot, canter or gallop while riding past wild horses and following old Inca trails.

We can set this tour up to make it family friendly, for experienced riders to ‘de-rust’ or to spend all day out in the saddle.

More on Cotopaxi horse riding

You get a fascinating insight into hacienda farm life in Ecuador as we spend two nights at a working farm (hacienda).

We leave the hacienda, and local Chagras guide our next ride through a hauntingly beautiful landscape of scree, muddy wetlands and open grassland.

Longer and shorter horse rides in the Cotopaxi are possible, too.

Trip Highlights

Trot, canter or gallop past Cotopaxi volcano.

Experience 'Chagra' lifestyle by staying at working farms and riding with these skilled, local horsemen.

Beautiful and varied terrain throughout the ride.

Tailor made itinerary can be adapted to be suitable for families or for expert riders.

The riding week was fantastic in terms of the setting / organisation / quality of leadership / quality of horses and group composition.

Full Itinerary

Day 1: ride towards cotopaxi volcano. hacienda (l,d).

We ride out of the farm and head south towards Cotopaxi Volcano, the highest active volcano in the world (6hrs). We cross stretches of farmland as we head towards the imposing Volcano. The terrain is very varied as we make our way across highland streams, down rocky gullies and small gorges and along narrow paths in the woodlands.

We traverse the lower slopes of the foothills of Sincholagua and follow the River Pita before fording it. En route we often see the large Andean raptors – eagles, hawks and kites soaring overhead in search of prey. The last part of the ride, through part of the Cotopaxi national park, is across grassy, undulating hills, giving us a chance of some faster pace riding.

We spend the night at a charming working hacienda nestled in the lower slopes of Rumiñahui on the edge of the Cotopaxi National Park with magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and peaks including the magnificent Cotopaxi summit. Rooms with shared bathrooms (option to upgrade to have private bathroom)

Riding time: 2-5 hours riding (above route 4-5 hours), 1- hour transfer from Quito.

Day 2: Circuit ride into Cotopaxi National Park. Return to hacienda (B,L,D)

We enjoy an exhilarating circuit ride into the Cotopaxi national park. On a clear day the views of Cotopaxi – a perfect, volcanic cone standing at 5,897m/19,347ft – are quite breathtaking.

For those that wish, there is the chance for some more fast pace riding across the undulating grasslands at the foot of the volcano before we head out over the luna-like landscapes and around a shallow lake on the high altitude arid plain. (5hrs). The unique landscape is fascinating: carved out by the glaciers then filled in by volcanic eruptions.

We often see the herds of wild horses that the roam the parkland and enjoy a gallop alongside the curious stallions of the groups, their long manes and tails streaming out as they cross the rugged ground. We follow old Inca routes between Quito and Cusco, Peru and down to the Amazon and see the Inca hilltop fort.

At the end of the ride we head back to the traditionally-built working hacienda for a delicious home-cooked highland dinner then spend the night in this incredibly cosy, picturesque setting.

Rooms with shared bathrooms (option to upgrade to have private bathroom).

Riding time: 2-6 hours horse riding (above route 5-6 hours )

Day 3: Long ride high into wild open paramo. Return to hacienda (B,L)

We head up the slopes of Rumiñahui Volcano (Stoneface) with an excellent chance of close encounters with the Andean condor, fox and deer. We pass polylepis trees (‘paperbark trees’) and alisos and other native plants such as chuquiragua and valeriana and a host of colourful native flowers hugging the hillsides.

We climb above 4,000m/ 13,123ft, then drop down into a hidden valley, cantering across pumice stone to arrive at the base of impressive vertical cliffs for another delicious picnic.

Emerging from the valley, the views are unforgettable: ridges and vales as far as the eye can see – yet more indelible memories to take home on this the last day of riding.

Riding time: 3-6 hours horse riding (above route 5-6 hours)

Prices From $885 / £720 per person

Practical Information

Introduction to ecuador.

Ecuador is the second smallest South American country, and one of the most varied.

It comprises three main geographical areas: the coast, highlands and Amazon plus is home to the Galapagos Islands.

Because of its relatively compact size, it makes a great holiday destination as you can move from highlight to highlight fairly easily and rapidly.

Weather in Ecuador

Ecuador lies between latitudes 4º south and 2º north. Overall, climate varies according to time of year, altitude and region.

The Sierra

In the Ecuadorian highlands, there is little temperature variation by season as temperature depends largely on altitude.

In Quito, shade temperatures range from 6 to 10ºC in the morning and from 19 to 23ºC in the afternoon, with cool nights. In the lower basins between mountains, it gets significantly warmer.

Rainfall depends on whether an area lies closer to the eastern or western Andes. To the west, June-Sept is the dry period and Oct-May the wet (with often a short, dry spell in Dec or Jan).

The best period to visit Quito and trek and climb volcanoes such as Cotopaxi is the west Andean dry season of June-Sept and Dec/Jan. This is also Ecuador’s high season. During the Oct-May wet season, most rainfall is in the afternoons.

To the east, Oct to Feb are dry and Mar-Sept are wet. Overall, the southern highlands are drier than the northern highlands.

On the Pacific coast, rainfall becomes less from north to south. The coast can be enjoyed year-round, although from June-Sept mornings are often grey with the garua mists.

Jan-May is the hottest and rainiest time of year.

In Ecuador’s Amazonian region, rain can fall at any time, but Dec-March is usually the driest season and Mar-Sept is usually the wettest period.

The Galapagos Islands

Galapagos can be visited at any time of year.

The warm season is Jan-Jun, bringing calm, warm waters (around 70°F) and sunny days (72-9°F or 22-32°C), February and March being the hottest and sunniest months with blue skies and sunshine.

The islands receive slightly more rainfall during these months, occasional heavy bursts in the afternoon. Great for snorkelling and you can spend a lot of time in the water without wetsuits, with great, clear waters.

The dry ‘garua’ season is Jun-Dec an it’s a great time for marine life. August and September are the coolest when you may need a jacket in the evenings and the sea can be choppy and temperature drops around 15-24ºC on average.

There can be mist on the islands in the mornings (garua) which usually burns off by midday leaving overcast skies or a sunny afternoon.

Sea temperatures may drop to 60°F- 72°F (15-22°C) during this time and snorkellers will want a wet suit for prolonged periods in the sea.

FAQs about horse riding tours

Do I need to be an experienced rider to join one of the tours?

Rides are divided into those for experienced riders and those for the less experienced (a large number of which are suitable for beginners.) Guests participating on the rides for experienced riders (scheduled departures or private) are expected to be able to canter comfortably and control a horse in open terrain at all paces; intermediate level and above.

If you have any doubts please ask us.

Enjoyment from the rides can be greatly increased if you are physically fit and your riding muscles are toned. Guests are welcome to arrive before the start of a set date departure tour in order to do an extra ride with the guide to ‘de-rust’.

If NON-RIDERS wish to accompany the tour, alternative activities can be organised for them and on most days everyone can meet up for mid-day meals.

Can we design our own riding tour with your help?

Yes, no problem at all. Private tours can be tailor-made to suit guests’ wishes (more days in the saddle, shorter daily rides, days out of the saddle added to the itinerary for bird watching, hiking, visiting local markets or craft villages etc.) For tailor-made tours, departures can be any day of the week.

What can you tell me about the horses you use and the type of ride I can expect?

It is incredibly important that you provide us accurate riding ability details – we try to put a lot of work into selecting suitable horses for each rider.

The horses are mainly ‘Criollo’ -descendants of the Spanish Conquistadors’ stock, developed in each country depending on the environmental conditions. These horses are ideal for the terrain we ask them to ride over and often crossed with warm/hot blood lines (English, Spanish, Arab, Pasos) for a taller, more responsive horse. They are specially selected, well trained and good natured.

As mentioned, great attention is paid to matching horse and rider and on most rides 14.2-15.2hh horses are available.

Riders normally change to fresh horses at least once during the longer rides, depending on the ride. The pace is very varied due to the great variety of landscapes. On most rides, each day there are opportunities for faster paced riding.

In Ecuador, on the second part of the scheduled tours, much of the ride can be fast-paced, depending on guests’ wishes – so please let us know what style of riding you like so we can make some suggestions.

All rides of more than 2 hours include regular breaks and all-day rides normally include a lunch break of approximately one hour. Please refer to individual itineraries for more details.

Set date group departures: no more than 8 guests (Ecuador) per group, maximum 10 in Chile, maximum 12 in Uruguay. Private groups: 1 or more guest(s).

What tack is used?

Western tack is used. In Ecuador US cavalry saddles with sheepskin seats are used.

English riding style is possible in Ecuador, English saddles are normally available upon prior request.

Ecuador: English and western style bridles (let us know your preference: direct rein or neck reining).

What can you tell me about the terrain & climate I’ll experience on the ride?

For challenging riding in the remote, high Andes. Parts of Ecuador are at high altitude. Please contact if you have any concerns.

What do I need to bring with me? Do I need any special equipment?

We provide the following in Ecuador: riding helmets upon prior request (but we do recommend that you bring your own), ponchos, saddlebags. Half chaps also available on prior request.

On tours in Ecuador a vehicle brings on guests’ belongings to the Hacienda/Estancia. Luggage storage can often be organised during the ride -please contact us.

All bed linen and towels will be provided on the tours.

What additional costs are involved in the price of the tour?

There are very few expenses not included in the overall price of the trip. You may need to bring money for:

  • soft drinks & alcohol (provision of drinks varies on each tour; as a minimum, water is provided while riding).
  • meals & accommodation pre/post tour
  • sundry expenses such as telephone calls and laundry bills.
  • discretionary tips

Good kit is vital for every trip.

Book with Andean Trails and get 15% off Páramo’s  fantastic ethical and high performance outdoor gear.

Guests are kindly requested on all rides/treks to take a  minimum  of personal belongings with them. Vehicles bring on guests’ belongings to each nights’ lodgings. Luggage storage can be organised in Quito during the ride/trek.

Please note some trips involve overnights at high altitudes where temperatures sometimes fall below freezing. Please do bring clothing for COLD weather (riding and for evenings).

Contact lenses and glasses

The rides can be dusty at times and the air is very dry therefore contact lenses can irritate. Guests have experienced problems with contact lenses. We suggest bringing a pair of glasses to replace lenses if necessary.

Guests are strongly advised to bring and use their own riding helmets.

Give plenty of thought to kit selection, and try to keep weight down.

Below is a more detailed kit list.

A family-owned estate winery and stables

Garrod Farms is a family-owned and operated estate winery and stables. We offer wine tasting, horseback riding, and horse boarding in the Saratoga foothills, just minutes from Silicon Valley.

The Garrod family began its involvement with California agriculture and open space in 1893, purchasing 66 acres from the Mount Eden Orchard and Vineyard Company. For decades we produced dried prunes and apricots, like much of Santa Clara Valley, which was known then as “The Valley of Heart’s Delight.” In the late 1950s, the valley started to become less agricultural and more developed. Our aging orchards were replaced by an equestrian center, providing boarding for privately owned horses as well as trail riding and lessons for the general public.

Sophia and David Garrod immigrate from England along with their three children: R.V., Harold, and Maisie.  They purchase this property, then known as the Mt. Eden Orchard and Vineyard Company, and begin farming.  They produce dried prunes and apricots.

Garrod Farms switches from being an orchard operation to being a Stables, providing boarding, lessons, and trail rides.

Come ride a horse! Garrod Farms Stables offers horseback riding lessons, trail rides, and pony rides to the general public, plus boarding for privately owned horses.

Come taste wine where the grapes are grown! Cooper-Garrod Vineyards offers daily wine tasting of select 100% estate-grown, produced, and bottled wine.

The Cooper-Garrod Wine Club offers quarterly releases with a 20% discount, as well as complimentary tastings for members and up to three guests when they visit our winery, plus access to special Club events throughout the year.

Garrod Farms has five riding arenas (one covered), two longing arenas, a round pen, three horse wash racks, limited trailer parking, and access to over twenty miles of trails! Rates are per month, per horse, and include feed twice daily.

Summer Camp

Horse Camp is a wonderful opportunity for your child to learn about horses, including grooming, saddling, bridling, general horse knowledge, and most importantly, riding! Camps include riding lessons, trail rides, and the chance to try the sport of vaulting.

Our lessons are provided in both Western and English styles. We recommend that all students begin with the Western-style; they may switch to English when the instructor deems them ready. All of our instructors are CHA-Certified, therefore trained in both safety management and teaching techniques.

For little riders under eight years old, 20 minute Pony Rides are available. Children must be old enough to sit-up with control and comfort. All pony walks will have a handler. Each child must be accompanied by an adult.

Horses for Courses: Team chemistry counts in Bayou

Horses for Courses

Change Text Size

Team golf returns this week for the eighth time at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The 2017 edition changed the format from stroke play to 80 two-man teams.

Battling Pete Dye’s TPC Louisiana, located in the suburb of Avondale, will be split into Four-ball (best ball) and Foursomes (alternate shot). Rounds 1 and 3 will consist of Four-ball, while Rounds 2 and 4 will use Foursomes. The top 33 teams and ties after 36 holes will play the final two rounds.

The par-72 provides 7,425 yards and wanders through the marshlands and swamps of the Bayou. Protected by 106 bunkers and water penalty areas on eight holes, TPC Louisiana lurks with danger at every turn. Decisions, commitments and execution will keep teammates on edge throughout the round.

Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele (+450) sit at the top of the BetMGM Sportsbook board this week and will be the team to beat. The 2022 champions joined forces in 2021 for T11 and shared fourth in their title defense last year. Over three editions, they have rewritten the record books. Setting the tournament record of 29-under in 2022 was buoyed by an opening round 59, another record, in Round 1. Signing for 60 in Round 3, they matched the old scoring record and set the new Four-ball record of 119. The California duo matched the Foursomes scoring record in 2023 with 63 in Round 2.

Players listed are in the field this week; 2024 season stats.

Fighting the temptations of Pete Dye again this week will be different with a partner along for the ride. Having two balls in the fairway is better than one, and the same goes for birdie-or-better chances on the greens. Spraying it off the tee will come with two inches of TifSport Bermudagrass to navigate, plus the strategically placed bunkers. Closely mown areas around the greens, water penalty areas, and bunkers can halt the birdie barrage required to win. In a shootout, the more fairways and greens hit, the more chances to score, and that’s what’s on the cards this week.

Defending champions Nick Hardy and Davis Riley (+5500) rolled in last year as a pair for the first time and set the tournament scoring record on 30-under-par. Circling 30 birdies and one eagle against only two bogeys, the new duo matched the par-4 scoring record 14-under set by Cantlay and Schauffele in 2022. More impressively, they played the par 3s in 6-under, three shots better than any other winning twosome over the previous five editions.

Birdie Average

The tournament champions from 2023 and 2022 have posted 30-under and 29-under, and all six winning totals have been 20-under or better. Last year, qualifying for the weekend required 10-under par, but the average 36-hole chopping point is a shade above 7-under. The winning pair has circled 25 or more birdies in five of the previous six tournaments. Scrambling to save par and avoiding bogeys or worse is required to keep up in the swamp but rounds in the 60s will be needed to contend. The average winning score hovers around 26-under.

The Florida Gators duo of Billy Horschel and Tyson Alexander (+5000) in the swamp makes sense this week. Taking the youngster under his wing, Horschel, the winner here on his own ball in 2013 before the format changed, has been here and done this. Winning the team title with Scott Piercy in 2018, the winner last week at the Corales Puntacana Championship ran second two years ago with Sam Burns riding shotgun. Missing the cut last year with Carl Yuan, Alexander will not have a steep learning curve to navigate with the local legend.

Par-5 Scoring

The par 5s range on the card between 548 and 585 yards. The four opportunities provide the famous Pete Dye risk-reward opportunities that can shake up the leaderboard. Taking advantage of these 16 chances will keep teams in the hunt or pressure those chasing the lead. Playing with a partner will add extra gravitas to the risk portion of the equation. The state bird of Louisiana is not the eagle, but there are plenty of chances to make birdies.

Taylor Moore and Matt NeSmith (+4000) have teed it up here twice and have cashed T4 each time. One of the few duos to return for the third consecutive season, the first time they played as a team in 2022, they opened with 60 in Four-balls. Posting 49-under over two editions, they reduced their bogey intake from four in 2022 to only two in 2023.

Matching the Foursomes record of 63 last year in Round 4, the Canadian team of Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin (+2800) did not take long to figure this out. Finishing second the first time as a team, the boys from North of the border posted 67-63 in Foursomes. Finishing second on 28-under would have won four of the previous five Zurich Classics. Only squaring four bogeys on the week, the chemistry was evident.

Hadwin and Taylor's interview after Round 4 at Zurich Classic

Oddsmaker’s Extras

Beau Hossler and Sam Ryder (+5000): Leading or sharing the lead for the first 54 holes in 2023, the former and partner Wyndham Clark (not entered) couldn’t close the deal and finished third. The 2022 edition saw the latter and partner Doc Redman (not entered) backdoor a podium payday after a super 67 on Sunday. Both players will have a point of reference if things heat up on Sunday.

David Lipsky and Aaron Rai (+6600): After cashing T4 on debut, the pair returned last year for another top-15 payday (T13). Posting 43-under over the last two editions, they have opened with 62 and 61 in Four-balls. The third time might be the charm for continuing the momentum.

Charley Hoffman and Nick Watney (+25000): Playing for the seventh time together, Southern California (Hoffman) and Northern California (Watney) have cashed in five of six with four paydays T19 or better, including a pair of top-10 results.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse's "Love Earth" tour coming to Colorado this summer

By Austen Erblat

Updated on: April 23, 2024 / 3:01 PM MDT / CBS Colorado

Neil Young is making his return to the Denver area this summer after not having played in Colorado since 2016.

He and Crazy Horse are set to play Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre in Greenwood Village on July 31. The last time Young played in Colorado was in October 2016 in Telluride, where he owns a barn he rebuilt. That barn is also home to a recording studio he called "Studio in the Clouds" where he recorded his 2019 album, "Colorado."

That album marked the reunion of Young and Crazy Horse after a 7-year hiatus. The group has played together for a combined 50 years.

Neil Young preforms at Denver University's Magness Arena, promoting his new album, "Fork in the Road." Young delivered classics and songs from his new album in a two and a half hour show. Opening for Young was the Neville Brothers and Everest. Tim Rasmuss

"In the spirit it's offered...made this for the Horse lovers. I can't stop it. The horse is runnin'. What a ride we have. I don't want to mess with the vibe. I am so happy to have this to share," Young said in a statement about the tour.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show is set to start at 7:30 p.m.

Presales began Tuesday but general ticket sales don't start until 10 a.m. Friday. You can buy tickets at AXS.com .

Austen Erblat is a digital producer and assignment editor at CBS News Colorado and is Covering Colorado First. Originally from South Florida, he's been working as a journalist in Denver since 2022.

Bad Bunny brought a live horse, an orchestra and Puerto Rican pride to Austin concert

cotopaxi horse tours

There was a live horse.

Friday night at the Moody Center, reggaetón idol and fashion trendsetter Bad Bunny switched sides and costumes. Earlier he donned a suit and wig under an L.A. Dodgers cap, then he rocked a tan jacket with frills. In between, a soliloquy about taking the road less traveled via pre-recorded video.

In it, Bunny crossed the dessert on a horse with the self-serious swagger of a cologne ad.

“No one else dares to take this path,” he narrated on-screen in Spanish.

Then, for about 15 seconds, he walked into the arena on a brown horse, gave it a pat, and we never saw it again. For one of the world’s mightiest rock stars, it was the most over-the-top flourish in a night filled with them.

A full orchestra; 20 back-up dancers; a rotating cat walk; 10 to 15 minutes of just posing on said cat walk to breathe in the idol worship while giving back brooding stares; barroom singalongs of sweeping breakup ballads like “un x100to” performed while lounging on top of a grand piano; the audacity to not book an opener; the bravado to leave out song of the summer 2022, “Callaita,” which was in a beer commercial, from the set list. And like Leo Messi, the rock star born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio never bothered to address his adoring English-speaking public in anything other than his native Spanish.

More from the Statesman: Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ in Buda temporarily closes, says shifting to new management

He’d ask where all the Latinas in Austin, Texas were at to get screams, sure, but also offer affirmations about identity and self-actualization.

“What we can’t control is what people will say about us,” he’d say, later shouting out how special it was to see Puerto Rican flags from fans. (I counted more than 10 large ones stretched out by patrons, including a giant flag draped over the mezzanine wall like a soccer match.) In his pep talk, Bad Bunny was alluding to being a tabloid regular—he split with Kendall Jenner in December—but also seemingly shouting out what it’s like to be a Latinx person in the U.S.

And the Spanish-first community was proudly about town. Selling $10 cowboy hats; enjoying hot dogs with a million toppings, fresh off a street griddle; even third- and fourth-generation Texans seemed excited to tap into the fashion and swagger of Mexican uncles at a child’s birthday party on Bad Bunny night.

You forget that Bad Bunny is an idea and lifestyle, too. Locally, dance clubs like Mala Vida are molded in his neon image. In South Austin, the same operating group’s Gabrielas restaurant has a permanent Bad Bunny throne that diners can snap photos on. He’s emboldened the community with a zest for gender-neutral brightness so undeniably appealing that Mark Zuckerberg is now wearing gold chains and letting his curls flex.

Between bangers at the Moody, he told us to seek out “people who love you and support you.” The dude projects a lot, defiantly adding banter like “people tell me things every day, but I’m sure of who I am.”

More from the Statesman: In Montopolis, a constant battle to preserve Austin's historic Mexican cemeteries

Were his gradient lights hypnotic? Was the cowboy boot necklace we all got at the door, that synced to the lightshow Coldplay and Taylor Swift-style, a lovely souvenir? Were his vocals muffled and mixed to overpowering degrees so that at times you heard him echo twice as loud as the accompanying beat? Absolutely and of course.

Structurally, this Most Wanted Tour is a celebration of October’s “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va Pasar Mañana” record, a more somber and rap-centric offering relative to 2022’s relentlessly romantic party masterpiece “Un Verano Sin Ti.” The former is almost a Rick Ross album, rich with thumping beats and strings—mood music for the bosses that makes you want to put a bib on and eat crab.

And so the show began with 10 uncompromising new songs, then revved into a string of party barge standards post-horse: “Yo Perreo Sola,” “La Santa,” “Me Porto Bonito.” Illuminate your reality and proudly let the dog out—he couldn’t be any clearer.
