Starting 01 September 2021, all incoming travelers to the Philippines are advised to use the eTravel registration system as mandated by IATF Resolution No. 135 dated 26 August 2021.

What is the official website of the eTravel?

The https://etravel.gov.ph/ is the ONLY OFFICIAL registration website for all international inbound travelers to the Philippines.

Do I need to pay for the registration of eTravel?

eTravel registration is FREE OF CHARGE and does not collect or require any form of online payment. BEWARE of fake, fraudulent, or scam websites and entities which require payment upon registration.

Do I need to download an application to use the eTravel?

Yes. eTravel is an online platform and therefore can only be used when you have an internet access. It is highly recommended to use eTravel while you have good and stable internet connection.

Can I register few days before the flight (before I travel)?

Yes. You may only register within 3 days (or 72 hours) prior to your arrival in the Philippines. Travelers are enjoined to present their proof of valid eTravel registration prior to flight boarding. It is important that your recent declaration of health condition is within 72 hours before arrival.

Is all information asked in the eTravel relevant to Health Declaration Checklist requirement?

Yes. Although some questions were added so that the system can determine your category based on the IATF requirements such as age, traveler classification, itinerary, etc. so you can be categorized and easily assisted/guided by the health border authorities when you arrive at the airport or seaport.

What is eHDC?

It stands for "electronic Health Declaration Card". This is the same yellow paper form which was previously used to be filled out manually by all arriving travelers in the Philippines and submitted to BOQ upon arrival. Instead of this, the eTravel replaces it digitally and your proof of registration and submission is the QR Code form that you receive upon successful registration with the eTravel.

What is the difference between the Green QR Code and Red QR Code of eTravel?

The GREEN QR Code is issued by the eTravel system when your submission of the required information and attachments are complete and complies with the IATF latest entry protocols ( IATF Resolution No. 2, s. 2022 ) . On the other hand, you will be issued a Reg QR Code in case you have missing requirements and you will be interviewed upon arrival at the airport by a BOQ personnel to manually verify and determine if you will be required to undergo facility-based quarantine and RT-PCR Testing.

What do I need to do after I register?

Take a screenshot or Download of your personal QR Code before closing or exiting the eTravel webiste or application. You will be required to show this QR code to an airline representative before being allowed to board your flight. Upon arrival in the Philippines, you must present this QR code to the BOQ Quarantine officers for verification.

What happens if I have a QR Code issued upon successful registration with eTravel?

If you received a QR Code upon registration with eTravel, you are pre-qualified for the express lane upon your arrival at the airport/seaport. This means that there’s no need to show the other documents to the Quarantine Officer. However, the data are still reviewed and verified by the BOQ before your actual arrival at the airport in case you have submitted wrongful information and/or the supporting documents you have submitted or uploaded, such as the vaccination or COVID-19 test, is incomplete or incorrect, you will be flagged by the BOQ and may still be required to undergo manual verification upon arrival. Therefore, ensure that you have properly filled out your information and submitted the correct document.

What happens if I have a Red QR Code issued upon successful registration with eTravel?

You will be manually verified by the Quarantine Officers and determine if you are compliant with the entry protocol set by the Philippine Government. It is necessary to show the specific documents which will be asked from you by the officer.

What is “Express Lane”?

Express lane has been included in the eTravel process to provide further convenience to the health protocol compliant international inbound travelers. When you are issued a Green QR Code and the information and supporting documents you have submitted during online registration has been approved, you are qualified in the express lane where your Green QR Code will be scanned and tagged for your arrival date and time. There may be no further interview or need for submission of any documents.

What is Manual Process?

Manual process is required for travelers issued with a Red QR Code. This is to verify and determine if you are compliant with the health protocol requirements of entering the Philippines. This also happens when your submitted information or uploaded documents needed evaluation upon arrival.

Does it automatically mean that I will be quarantined if I am manually processed upon arrival by BOQ?

No. If BOQ is able to verify your information and found you to be compliant based on the entry requirements, you will be advised to proceed to Immigration without the need for facility-based quarantine.

Can I print my eTravel personal QR code instead of screenshot?

Yes. You can print this for presentation at airport/seaport of origin and upon arrival in the Philippines. Yet again, for your convenience, you may as well take a screenshot or click download to save your eTravel personal QR code in your smartphone for presentation at the airport/seaport and upon arrival in the Philippines.

I lost the screenshot of my personal QR Code, what do I do?

If you registered within 72 hours prior to your arrival to the Philippines, you may retrieve your personal QR Code and view some of your details using the "Edit Registration” tab in the eTravel website. To open my profile, go to the eTravel etravel.gov.ph/search and enter your reference number and date of birth then press the CONTINUE button as shown in the blue box below.

I made a mistake. Can I still edit my information after I have successfully registered?

For as long as you have not been processed, verified, and tagged as arrived by the border health authorities (BOQ) in the eTravel you may still change some of your information in the eTravel through the “Edit Registration” tab in the eTravel website. You will not be able to edit your data once you have arrived, verified and tagged as arrived by the Quarantine Officer. The editable information are mainly the data that is needed during the issuance of your quarantine certificate (i.e. arrival date, address, other personal info).

I have registered more than once in the eTravel for my travel, which QR code should I use?

You may use either of the QR Code but you should only choose one to present upon your arrival. Only the verified QR Code by BOQ upon your arrival at the airport/seaport is valid for your travel. Presenting different QR code during the process may cause delay or inconvenience for you.

Why can I not use the same QR Code next flight?

In compliance with the Republic Act No. 10173 (otherwise known as the “Data Privacy Act”), all sensitive personal information is immediately deleted from the eTravel database after you have been completely processed based on the quarantine and health protocol set by the Government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and for disease surveillance and response. Your personal eTravel QR Code is therefore issued per transaction in the system and new registration is required for each travel.

How many days is the quarantine period?

1. FULLY VACCINATED- 7 days 2. PARTIALLY/UNVACCINATED- 10 days

What if the result of my COVID-19 RT-PCR is positive?

You will receive a call from the BOQ Operation Center to give instructions on your isolation procedure.

Which COVID-19 laboratory will test me?

There are twelve (12) accredited laboratories for testing of international inbound traveler to ensure service level agreement. These laboratories are required to visit and conduct testing at your quarantine hotels and are mandated to release the result within 24 hours from the time of testing. Here are the list of laboratories: 1. AL MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY 2. CHINESE GENERAL HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL CENTER 3. DETOXICARE MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS LABORATORY 4. FIRSTAIDE DIAGNOSTIC CENTER 5. INTRAMUROS MOLECULAR LABORATORY 6. JT CENICA MEDICAL HEALTH SYSTEM 7. KAIROS DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY 8. PHILIPPINE AIRPORT DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY 9. PHILIPPINE RED CROSS 10. SAFEGUARD DNA DIAGNOSTICS LABORATORY 11. THE LORDS GRACE MEDICAL AND INDUSTRIAL CLINIC

Can I select which laboratory I will be tested?

Yes, but you may only choose from the list of accredited laboratories. You can select the laboratory when you are processed by the BOQ at the airport/seaport of your arrival. You will be asked by BOQ to choose from the list your preferred laboratory.

What will I present as proof that I have completed the quarantine requirement?

You will need the BOQ Quarantine Certificate as proof of your quarantine completion. You will not be allowed by the Hotel to check out unless you are able to show valid Quarantine Certificate from BOQ.

How do I get the BOQ Quarantine Certificate?

You are only able to get the BOQ Quarantine Certificate if you have been tested by an accredited COVID-19 laboratory and you are found NEGATIVE from COVID-19. BOQ Quarantine Certificate will be issued by the BOQ Medical Team in charge at the isolation facility. Your Quarantine Certificate will only be available if your test is NEGATIVE.

Traveling to the Philippines: How to Get eTRAVEL QR CODE Online (Arrival Card)

Traveling to the Philippines: How to Get eTRAVEL QR CODE Online (Arrival Card)

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

Are you traveling to the Philippines? ALL incoming international travelers including Filipino citizens and foreigners, adults and children, must secure an eTravel QR code online 72 HOURS or THREE DAYS before your arrival.

Just like the old One Health Pass and eArrival Card, this new eTravel QR system serves as an all-in-one online platform for the arrival card, health declaration, and contact tracing.

But don’t worry, it’s easy to get one. In this article, we’ll walk you through the process one step at a time. Here’s how to do it.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

1. Go to eTravel official website.

The official website is https://etravel.gov.ph .

Make sure it’s the legitimate website. Note that eTravel QR Code is FREE of charge. If you landed on a website requiring you to pay for the service, it’s a scam.

2. Start your registration.

On the home page, you’ll see the registration section. For Filipino citizens, click the PHILIPPINE PASSPORT HOLDER box. Then, start entering the following details:

eTravel Website Home Page

  • Transportation Type
  • Date of Arrival
  • Email Address

Tick the DATA PRIVACY AND AFFIDAVIT OF UNDERTAKING box. It’s easy to miss because the tick box is quite small, but you’ll find it before the CONTINUE button.

When you check that, a page will pop. Read first, then click the YES, I AGREE button.

Finally, hit the CONTINUE button.

3. Provide your Personal Information.

Enter the following details:

eTravel Website 2

  • Passport Number
  • Citizenship
  • Country of Birth
  • Mobile Number

If the system detected that you belong to the (legal) working age group, it will require you to answer the OCCUPATION section. Choose your professional field. If you can’t find it in the choices, select OTHERS . When you are done, click NEXT .

4. Enter your address.

You will be asked to provide your specific address down to house number or unit number.

If you live in Metro Manila, choose National Capital Region or NCR.

eTravel Website 3

5. Submit your travel details.

Enter the following travel information:

  • Arrival Date
  • Country of Origin
  • Purpose of Travel
  • Flight Number
  • Seat Number (optional)
  • Name of Airline
  • Airport of Arrival
  • Traveller Type (aircraft passenger or flight crew).

When you are done, click NEXT .

6. Accomplish the Health Declaration Form

eTravel Website 4 Health Declaration

This includes your Vaccination Details. If you are fully vaccinated, answer NO for the section asking if you have a negative Antigen Test result. After that are the usual ‘Yes or No’ questions about history of exposure and if you’ve been sick in the past 30 days. After answering all the items, click ‘NEXT’.

7. Review the information you encoded.

Read the summary of all the details you provided. If you need to change or correct something, just click the pencil symbol on the upper right portion of the category you want to edit. If you are good and you have nothing to correct, click SUBMIT .

eTravel Website 5

8. Download your QR Code.

Congratulations! You will instantly receive your QR Code.

Don’t forget to download or screenshot it! You’ll be presenting it upon arrival in the Philippines.

eTravel Website 6

  • If your QR Code page is GREEN , it means you met the travel requirements and you can directly go to express lane where you will have the BOQ officer scan your QR Code.
  • If your QR Code page is RED , you have to let the Quarantine Officer manually verify the required additional documents to determine if you are compliant with the entry protocols set by the Philippine government. Travelers who usually get RED-marked QR Code are the unvaccinated and the partially vaccinated. Again, check the entry guideline set by the Philippine Government first before traveling to the Philippines.

One QR Code is issued per transaction and per entry. You can only use it once and you need to register again and get a new QR Code the next time you travel to the Philippines.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I want to change something after generating the qr code. how to correct it.

You can still edit your info if you noticed a typo error or you entered wrong data. However, note that you can only do this BEFORE it gets validated or verified by the BOQ officer upon your arrival sa Pilipinas. Ensure that you make your corrections before your flight to the Philippines.

To do this, just go to the main page or home page of eTravel, then click the UPDATE REGISTRATION button. Provide your reference number or transaction number and birth date.

At what point of the airport process should I present the QR code?

From the team’s experience, we were asked to present our QR Codes at these stations:

  • Check-in Counter, before departure abroad (at the country of origin)
  • Bureau of Quarantine Area, after deplaning and before the Immigration counters in the Philippines. The staff/officers will be scanning the QR code. It’s a very quick and smooth process if you have a green QR code.

The staff may also ask for it at the boarding gate (country of origin/abroad), so just ready your copy during these times.

ATTENTION! Travel requirements change from time to time, so it’s best to check with the government of the country you want to visit the updated travel restrictions and requirements before you travel. For the Philippine’s updated entry requirements, you can check the official eTravel website: https://etravel.gov.ph/entry-guidelines.

Do I still need to accomplish One Health Pass and eArrival Card?

No need. The eTravel has officially replaced the now obsolete One Health Pass and eArrival Card starting 2 December 2022.

To be honest, all these systems are very similar. The changes are not too drastic. Some items were removed such as the Philhealth Number, and then some required items are now optional. The noticeable difference is not really the content but the appearance or the user interface.

Do I have to pay for eTravel QR Code? How much is the charge?

No, you don’t need to pay anything for the eTravel QR Code. It is FREE of charge. If you landed on a website requiring you to pay for the service, it’s a scam.

Is there a Tagalog version of this article?

Yes. Ganito Friend has a Tagalog video version on YouTube. You can find it here .

Philippine One-Stop Electronic Travel Declaration System

All passengers traveling to the Philippines must complete an electronic travel declaration both ahead of their journey and before departing the country.

The Philippine One-Stop Electronic Travel Declaration (previously called eTravel) replaces the eArrival Card ( originally the One Health Pass ) and the paper-based departure card.

The one-stop declaration requires less information and simplifies the process of authorizing your arrival in and departure from the Philippines and providing your health declaration.

Note that the eTravel declaration is not a visa or eTA . Passengers who require a visa or Philippines eTA must have both a visa/eTA and one-stop authorization. Visa-exempt travelers will still need to complete the One-Stop Electronic Travel Declaration .

What Is the One-Stop Electronic Travel Declaration for the Philippines?

Electronic travel registration includes providing a health declaration and information about the trip.

The data collected from eTravel enables Filipino authorities to perform contact tracing in the event that a traveler is found to have an infectious disease. In this way, it is an important measure to protect public health for both residents and visitors.

You must register with eTravel online before any trip to the Philippines , as well as before departure from the country . Once completed, you will receive a QR code or barcode to present on arrival or departure.

The declaration is the latest iteration of the Philippines’ digital health form. It has replaced the eArrival Card, which, in turn, replaced the One Health Pass. The original name for the form was the e-CIF. It also replaces the paper-based departure card.

The one-stop registration is now the only required health form . The eArrival Card, One Health Pass, and e-CIF are no longer in use.

How to Complete eTravel Declaration for the Philippines

Passengers register the Philippines eTravel declaration online. This is done through a web-based portal rather than a mobile app.

The registration involves completing a short online form with the requested information.

This can be done using a personal computer, laptop, smartphone, tablet, or other device connected to the internet.

The one-stop declaration form

The form asks for the following details:

  • Basic personal details
  • Travel plans
  • Accommodation
  • Vaccination status

There are fewer questions than on previous Filipino online health forms. The new form is more streamlined and quicker to complete .

Once the details are submitted, a QR code is generated .

Who Needs the Philippines eTravel Declaration?

All passengers entering or departing the Philippines must present a QR code or barcode from the one-stop declaration.

This includes:

  • Foreign residents of the Philippines
  • Filipino nationals

Travelers of all nationalities are required to complete a declaration for the Philippines. It is required for all purposes of travel, including transit through the country, and is also needed for departure.

Each traveler must complete a separate form . It is not possible to include multiple individuals on one form.

Do children need the one-stop declaration for the Philippines?

Yes, all travelers, including minors and infants , must have their own eTravel QR code/barcode on arrival/departure.

Parents or guardians may complete the online form on behalf of their dependents.

When Can I Complete the Philippines Electronic Travel Declaration?

Passengers should complete the registration process in the days leading up to their trip.

The information will be submitted for processing a maximum of 72 hours before traveling to the Philippines or departing from the country.

Can I Use the Same One-Stop eTravel Declaration More than Once?

No, the eTravel declaration is valid for a single use only .

The QR code can only be used to board a flight to/from the Philippines within 72 hours of completing the online form. Once it is scanned by a border officer on arrival/departure, it cannot be reused .

Each time you travel to or from the Philippines, you will need to register with the Philippine One-Stop Electronic Travel Declaration System..

Traveling to the Philippines With the One-Stop Declaration

After completing the online form, print or take a screenshot of the QR code or barcode . This is required to board a flight to or from the Philippines and must be shown to a Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) officer on arrival or departure.

Passengers may present their QR or barcode in one of the following ways:

  • Printed copy
  • Digital copy on a smartphone or device

eTravel QR code or barcode?

The passenger will be issued with a QR code as long as the information provided:

  • Is complete
  • Meets the entry protocols

Travelers with a QR code will be able to use the "Express Lane" on arrival or when departing. This means that all they need to do is scan the code on arrival/departure. There is usually no further interview or checking of health-related documents.

The individual will be issued with a barcode in the following circumstances:

  • The information provided during one-stop registration is incomplete
  • The individual’s details or health documents require further checks

Upon arrival in the Philippines, they will be interviewed by a BOQ officer . Here, the information and documents will be checked. It may be determined that the individual will need to quarantine or undergo other measures.

eTravel registration: What, Where, and How

With the holiday season just around the corner, local and foreign tourists are expected to troop to airports and seaports for the much-needed vacation.

Before going to the ports, travelers need to visit the eTravel website, a free of charge online portal for the implementation of electronic passenger registration, border control, economic data analysis, and Health Declaration Checklist.

In an advisory, the Bureau of Immigration said the following are required to register at least 72 hours or three days prior to their intended travel to the country:

  • Arriving Filipino and foreign crew members,
  • Arriving Filipino and foreign passengers, and
  • Departing Filipino passengers.

Exempted from eTravel registration are:

  • Foreign diplomats and their dependents
  • Foreign dignitaries and members of their delegation
  • Holders of 9 (e) visas, and
  • Holders of diplomatic and official/service passports.

Since eTravel is a web-based online platform that is mobile-responsive, it can be accessed through cellphones, tablets, laptops, or personal computers.

Travelers are advised to have good and stable internet connection when accessing eTravel website.

Here is the step by step guide to register:

  • Visit the website ( https://etravel.gov.ph/ ) and click if you are a Philippine or foreign passport holder
  • From the dropdown, choose your citizenship, travel type (arrival or departure), transportation type (air or sea), date of travel
  • Enter your email address and then press either continue, update existing record, or registered crew
  • Enter your personal details such as name, passport number, gender, birthdate, country of birth, occupation, and mobile number
  • Enter your address and permanent country of residence
  • Enter your travel details
  • Fill up a health declaration

A QR code will be sent after a successful registration. The traveler should take a screenshot or download the QR code as it will be shown to an airline representative before boarding. The QR code can also be printed.

Red or green QR code

If a traveler receives a green QR code, he or she may directly proceed with the immigration inspection. It means he or she submitted the proper and complete information.

However, a red QR code means the traveler will be required to undergo further inspection by the Bureau of Quarantine before immigration formalities. A red QR code is issued when the data submitted is incomplete or incorrect, and/or if for the past 30 days, the traveler was sick or has a history of exposure to a person who is sick or known to have communicable/infectious disease prior to travel.

The eTravel system is in compliance with the Ease of Doing Business Law (Republic Act 11032), which promotes ease of doing business and efficient delivery of government services. —AOL, GMA Integrated News

Step-by-Step Guide to Registering for e-Travel Card

The Philippines has introduced a new travel pass, the e-Travel Card, to replace the One Health Pass as a requirement for entry into the country. This new system aims to make it easier and more convenient for international travelers to enter the Philippines. In this article, we’ll give you a step-by-step guide on how to register for the e-Travel Card 2023.

The e-Travel Card is an online health declaration and contact tracing platform created by the Philippine government to keep track of all individuals entering the country. This is to allow for contact tracing in case a traveler is found to be infected with a specific disease. All foreign and Filipino travelers, including children and infants, must individually register for the e-Travel Card before their  flight to the Philippines .

According to the latest rules from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), e-Travel registration is mandatory for all arriving passengers. Inbound travelers, including Filipino nationals and foreigners, must apply for e-Travel registration at least 72 hours before their flight to the Philippines. It’s important to fill out the e-Travel registration form as proof of registration is required when boarding the flight.

Here are 10 Steps to Register and Use the e-Travel Card for Travel to the Philippines:

  • Visit the e-Travel website at eTravel.gov.ph using a smartphone, tablet, laptop or personal computer.
  • On the homepage, select whether you are a Philippine passport holder or a foreign passport holder.
  • Enter your travel details and email address, then press “Continue” to generate your e-Travel QR Code.
  • Fill out the personal details section and sign the health declaration form to complete your registration.
  • After successful registration, you will receive a QR Code. Save a screenshot or download your personal QR Code before closing the website or application. You’ll need to show this QR code to an airline representative before boarding the flight and to the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) upon arrival in the Philippines.
  • You will receive a Green QR Code from the e-Travel system if all required information and attachments are complete. You can use the “Express Lane” at the airport; no further interview or document submission may be required. However, if you have missing requirements, you will receive a Red QR Code and must be interviewed by BOQ personnel upon arrival.
  • Prepare the necessary documents before your flight. Foreigners should carry a copy of their passport and visa, while Filipino travelers should carry a valid passport or government-issued ID like  UMID  or  postal ID .
  • Provide your airline with the details of your e-Travel QR code, including the Green QR code, a copy of your passport, and other necessary documents at least 72 hours before departure.
  • The airline will verify your information and send it to the Bureau of Quarantine for approval. Wait for an email notification from the e-Travel platform indicating your approved e-Travel QR Code.
  • Once your e-Travel QR code has been approved, your airline will send you a flight confirmation. Show this confirmation along with your QR code and passport to the airline representative when checking in at the airport.

The e-Travel Card registration is free of charge and does not require any online payment. Be cautious of potential scams or false websites that may try to charge for e-Travel Card registration. It is designed to make the process of entering the Philippines easier and more convenient for international travelers. By following these steps, you can easily register for the e-Travel Card and have a  smooth entry into the Philippines .

Remember to prepare all necessary documents and provide your e-Travel QR Code to your airline at least 72 hours before your flight. This will ensure a smooth and hassle-free entry into the Philippines. It’s also important to keep a copy of your approved e-Travel QR Code, flight confirmation, and passport with you at all times during your travels. The registration is free of charge, so be wary of any potential scams that may try to charge you for the service. By using the e-Travel Card, you can contribute to the health and safety of travelers and residents in the Philippines.

Arriving in the PH: How to Use the New eTravel Declaration System

Inbound passengers must register at least 72 hours prior to arrival. by Ina Louise Manto | December 07, 2022

With the holidays right around the corner and travel returning to normal, more families are bound to reunite this Christmas season. More Pinoys are finally returning home from abroad after years-long of travel delays due to erratic travel restrictions and families might have travel plans to go abroad for a long-awaited vacation. To improve mobility and traveler experience, the Department of Tourism launched the new eTravel system on December 5 to replace old arrival requirements such as the One Health Pass and paper Arrival Card. Here’s everything you need to know about it:

What is the new eTravel System?

If you have relatives or friends who arrived in the Philippines from abroad, you’ve probably heard of the One Health Pass as a requirement to enter the country. In response to IATF’s derivate, the government has launched the new eTravel System to replace One Health Pass, and integrate other arrival requirements.

Basically, the new eTravel System serves as a free Health Declaration and Contact Tracing platform for both Foreign and Filipino travelers arriving in the Philippines. No more falling in line and filling out forms upon arrival.

Beginning December 5, the Bureau of Immigration will no longer require the paper arrival card as well.

How does it work?

All inbound Filipino and Foreign travelers, including infants and children, must register to eTravel individually at least 72 hours prior to their flight to the Philippines. Registration also serves as a requirement prior to flight boarding. Here’s how to register:

  • Visit the eTravel website . Remember, the system is FREE and will not require you to make any payments when registering.
  • Fill out your Personal Profile, which will ask for information such as your passport number and occupation.
  • Provide your Address Information.
  • Fill out the Health Declaration, which includes details of your COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Recheck your information Summary and submit it.

You will receive a QR Code

After submitting all requirements, a QR Code will be generated. Take a screenshot of the code before exiting the website as it will be scanned before boarding and upon arrival in the Philippines.

Note: Remember that you cannot use the same code twice. For your next travel, you need to register and generate a new QR Code.

For more information about the new eTravel System, visit the FAQ page on the official website.

CBP Reminds Travelers to Allow 72 Hours for ESTA

Visa Waiver Program users are encouraged to apply early

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), consistent with existing requirements, reminds international travelers using the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) for travel to the United States to apply as soon as possible but not less than 72 hours before their international flight is scheduled to depart.

Visa Waiver Program users are encouraged to apply early.

ESTA is an automated system that assists in determining eligibility to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program and whether such travel poses any law enforcement or security risks.  Upon completion of an ESTA application, travelers are notified of their eligibility to travel to the United States under the VWP.

“Since its implementation in 2007, ESTA has counterbalanced vulnerabilities inherent in visa-free travel by adding a layer of advance scrutiny that enables our officers to focus on the small population of potentially dangerous travelers,” said Todd Owen, CBP Executive Assistant Commissioner of the Office of Field Operations.

Recent enhancements to the ESTA process make querying application status much smoother.  Upon successful submission, the applicant is provide an email containing their application number and a link taking them directly to the ESTA web page.

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows citizens of participating countries to travel to the United States without a visa for stays of 90 days or less for business or pleasure when they meet all requirements.  Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is an automated system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the U.S. under the VWP and is required for all VWP applicants in the air and sea environment.

ESTA was one of the measures under the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007. The electronic travel authorization system was designed to enhance the security of the Visa Waiver Program by evaluating a traveler’s eligibility prior to their boarding a U.S. bound flight.

For detailed information on VWP/ESTA, please visit the CBP site at: cbp.gov/esta, or, the U.S. State Department travel site . To avoid third-party fees, CBP encourages travelers to apply use the official ESTA website.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with securing the borders of the United States while enforcing hundreds of laws and facilitating lawful trade and travel.

The comprehensive implementation of the Philippines’ eTravel System was successfully completed on April 15, 2023. This achievement was the result of a collaborative endeavor involving various governmental agencies, including the the Department of Tourism, the Department of Transportation, Inter-Agency Task Force, the Bureau of Quarantine, the National Privacy Commission, the Bureau of Customs, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the Department of Health, and the Department of Justice.

Why the Implementation Is Significant?

The eTravel Philippines System made its debut in December 2022, marking a departure from the traditional paper-based arrival and departure cards and the One Health Pass, which travelers were previously mandated to use for immigration clearance. This innovative system is designed with the primary goal of expediting immigration clearances and fostering seamless coordination among border management agencies . Ultimately, it aims to facilitate the smooth and convenient entry of travelers into the Philippines through various ports of entry.

Nevertheless, travelers must register in advance their journeys. This requirement is applicable to all inbound travelers and crew members, as well as to outbound Filipino travelers—a novel aspect of the process.

Business implications

Companies should ensure that their globally-mobile workers understand and comply with the new registration requirement for traveling to the Philippines. Effective communication and preparation are key to smoothly navigating health immigration check once arrived in the country. If assistance is needed in understanding these updated processes and conditions, companies can reach out to their immigration attorney or legal advisor, or contact us via our contact form.

eTravel Philippines in details

It is the newest entry form for international passengers journeying to or from the Philippines. It has replace d the One Health Pass , which was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. This straightforward online registration incorporates a health declaration for the Philippines, serving as a vital tool for authorities to safeguard public health and manage the risk of contagious diseases.

It’s essential to note that eTravel Philippines is an additional requirement for travelers and does not substitute other mandatory documents, such as the Philippines Visa . Passengers must continue to present all standard paperwork when entering the Philippines, including a visa if it is mandated by their country of departure.

The Philippines eTravel System Functions as a contemporary counterpart to entry forms utilized by various countries globally. While traditional in-flight paper forms were commonplace before the pandemic, the COVID-19 era ushered in a new era of online health declarations across the world, all sharing a common focus on health-related inquiries.

In the wake of the pandemic’s persistent challenges, multiple nations, the Philippines included, have embraced the continuity of online platforms for travelers to furnish their information and submit comprehensive health declarations. The eTravel system stands as the Philippines’ distinctive rendition of this entry requirement , not only applying to incoming passengers but also encompassing those departing from the country. This data collection process plays a pivotal role for Filipino authorities, allowing them to:

  • Assessing Inbound Travelers
  • Detecting Health-Related Risks
  • Monitoring and Controlling Disease Outbreaks
  • Maintaining Awareness of visitor’s Entry and Exit

A travel Authorization is needed under the following circumstances:

  • Traveling to the Philippines
  • Departing from the Philippines

Irrespective of your nationality, all passengers are required to complete the Philippines health declaration form.

For anyone intending to enter the Philippines, regardless of the purpose or duration of the stay, adherence to this entry policy is essential.

Not presenting an approved eTravel QR could lead to the possibility of being denied entry into the Philippines or boarding a flight destined for the Philippines from your country of origin.

Even residents and citizens of the Philippines must obtain an eTravel authorization. This requirement applies to Filipinos both departing from and returning to the country. It’s important to note that possessing a Philippines passport or resident card does not grant an exemption from the eTravel requirement.

COVID-19 information are no longer mandatory to be included in the eTravel form. The eTravel form no longer necessitates the inclusion of detailed COVID-19 information. Instead, it mandates responses to more general health inquiries, focusing on any illnesses encountered in the past 30 days and potential exposure to communicable diseases.

CHILDREN are also required to have an approved travel health form when traveling to the Philippines. Every passenger, regardless of age, including minors, must possess their individual eTravel Philippines document for entry into or departure from the country. The system does not allow for the grouping of applications or adding children to an existing form. Each child must have their own distinct document.

Parents or legal guardians can act on behalf of their children or dependents by completing the eTravel form.

To successfully apply online for a eTravel Declaration Form for the Philippines, you need to meet a few straightforward prerequisites.

  • Complete the eTravel form online within a 72-hour window before your scheduled flight or ship departure.

To request a Philippines travel authorization online, you are required to have handy the following:

  • Proof of your travel reservations
  • Information regarding any recent illnesses or potential exposure to diseases within the past 30 days
  • Evidence of your accommodation arrangements in the Philippines
  • A Current passport
  • A credit or debit card
  • A working email address

The eTravel Card is distinct from a Philippines Visa

The eTravel QR should not be confused with a Philippines visa. If your nationality does not qualify for visa exemption when visiting the Philippines, you will be required to obtain a visa in addition to the electronic arrival card.

Depending on your nationality, this visa may take the form of an electronic visa, a visa on arrival, or an embassy-issued visa. If you are eligible for the Philippines eVisa, we recommend utilizing the online application method, which is the most convenient and expeditious means of gaining entry to the country.

For those traveling for business or employment purposes, a business visa or work permit is typically essential. The sponsoring company in the Philippines usually assists with this process, which may entail providing additional documentation, such as an invitation letter from the company.

Please keep in mind that entry requirements can vary, so it is advisable to thoroughly review the Philippine entry conditions specific to your nationality well in advance of your planned departure date.

Israel-Hamas war

April 14, 2024 - Iran's attack on Israel

By Jerome Taylor, Heather Chen , James Legge, Sophie Tanno, Emma Tucker , Kaanita Iyer , Paul LeBlanc , Catherine Nicholls, Maureen Chowdhury , Antoinette Radford and Eve Rothenberg, CNN

Iran foreign minister says neighboring countries were informed 72 hours before attack on Israel

From CNN’s Adam Pourahmadi, Mostafa Salem and Zeena Saifi

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian gives a press conference in Tehran, Iran, on April 14.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Iran informed neighboring countries 72 hours before its attack of a “certain” response against Israel.

Amir-Abdollahian told a news conference on Sunday in Tehran that Iran told the countries the operation would be “decisive” in the form of “legitimate defense."

He did not clarify which countries were informed. Neighboring states have not yet publicly confirmed they were informed.

White House underscores Israel's "military superiority" as it seeks to contain risk of wider war

From CNN's Kevin Liptak

A top White House official underscored the success of Israeli and US efforts to intercept Iranian missiles and drones as the Biden administration looks to contain the risk of a wider regional conflict.

"This was an incredible success, really proving Israel's military superiority and just as critically, their diplomatic superiority, that they have friends in the region, that they have around the world that are willing to help them," White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said Sunday.

He added that Israel's defense against the "several hundred drones and missiles over the course of a few hours" shows that Iran "is not the military power that they claim to be." Kirby’s comments were an indication of how the United States is looking to tout the success of the operation while preventing further escalation. They echo sentiments President Joe Biden relayed late Saturday to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In pointing to the unbridled success in stopping Iran’s weapons, Biden and his team are suggesting to Israel that it has shown its ability to defend itself alongside the United States and its allies — and that further retaliation may not be necessary.

Italy calls G7 meeting following Iran's attack against Israel

From CNN's Barbie Nadeau in Rome

The Italian Presidency of the G7 has called a meeting in remote format on Sunday "to discuss Iran’s attack against Israel," according to a brief statement on Italy’s G7 official presidency site.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also said Sunday that the Italian presidency of the G7 has organized "a conference at leaders level for this afternoon."

"The Italian Government reiterates its condemnation of Iranian attacks against Israel," Meloni said in a post on social media. "We express strong concern about further destabilization of the region and continue to work to avoid it."

Analysis: What happens next rests on if Israel will listen to the United States and not escalate

From CNN's Christiane Amanpour

Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system launches to intercept missiles fired from Iran, on Sunday, April 14.

In decades of antagonism between Israel and Iran, there has never been an attack by Iran inside Israel. This crosses a threshold. What happens next rests on whether Israel will listen to the United States and not escalate the cycle of retaliation.

Iran’s massive drone and missile wave was 99% intercepted , and Israel said damage was limited. Triggered by Israel’s April 1 strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria, the barrage brings the region to a boil. We still don’t know exactly why Israel carried out the strike in Syria, but analysts say Iran was forced to respond for its own internal consumption and to demonstrate strength in the region. For its part, it says the matter is now concluded.

President Joe Biden said the US will not join any Israeli offensive against Iran. The very real question is whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will listen to the warnings of his biggest backer.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak told CNN Israel had won this round and Netanyahu must think before any further action, warning that Israel is still stuck in Gaza, hostages remain captive, and the Lebanon-Israel border is highly volatile. In the meantime, despite the current escalation between Israel and US intelligence say there is no evidence Iran planned or acted in Hamas’s October 7 attacks.

Any new "aggression" against Iran will be met with "heavier and regrettable response," Iranian president says

From CNN’s Negar Mahmoodi, Adam Pourahmadi and Zeena Saifi

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi attends a press conference in Ankara, Turkey, on January 24.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said any “new aggression against the interests of the Iranian nation will be met with a heavier and regrettable response,” according to Iran’s state news channel IRIB.

The country’s foreign minister made similar remarks on a  post  on X, saying Iran has no intention of “continuing defensive operations, but if necessary, it will not hesitate to protect its legitimate interests against any new aggression.”

“Exercising the right of legitimate defense shows Iran's responsible approach to regional and international peace and security,” he added.

Iran has continued its threats after launching an unprecedented overnight strike on Israel on Saturday.

The leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned that a “new equation” was created after its attack on Israel, and that it will now respond directly whenever Israel attacks its interests, assets or people.

Iran's chief of staff has also threatened the US and Israel against any future attacks. Mohammad Bagheri, the Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces, said Iran sent a message to the US through the Swiss embassy warning Washington if it cooperates with Israel in their possible next actions, US bases will "not have any security" and will be "dealt with."

France helped monitor and detect Iranian drones heading to Israel, French military source says

From CNN’s Xiaofei Xu in Paris

French forces, in cooperation with their hosting countries, helped monitor and detect drones and missiles launched from Iran toward Israel on Saturday night, a French military source told CNN Sunday.

“French forces in the region have been on high alert since tensions began to rise last week,” the source said.

Later, Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné, in a post on X , said France participated in intercepting Iranian missiles.

France has troops stationed in Lebanon, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, as well as a navy presence in the Persian Gulf, according to the French Ministry of Armed Forces. The source declined to comment on which other countries participated in the mission Saturday night.

This comes as Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said that the United States, United Kingdom and France all "acted" during the Iranian strikes on Israel. "We are working closely with the US, UK and France who acted tonight. This partnership has always been close, but tonight it manifested itself in an unusual way," Hagari said.

The post was updated with the social media post from France's foreign minister.

UK jets shot down "a number of Iranian attack drones" aimed at Israel, British prime minister says

From CNN's Niamh Kennedy in London

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak records a statement about the Iranian attack on Israel on April 14, in London.

The United Kingdom's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed that British Royal Air Force (RAF) jets shot down "a number of Iranian attack drones" launched overnight towards Israel.

"The RAF sent additional planes to the region as part of our existing operations to counter [ISIS] in Iraq and Syria. I can confirm that our planes did shoot down a number of Iranian attack drones," Sunak said in a video shared with broadcasters Sunday.

The prime minister said that he had chaired an emergency meeting of the UK's crisis management committee on Friday to agree a plan of action in the event of an Iranian attack.

Sunak commended the success of the "international coordinated" response to Iran's attack, saying it had managed to save lives "not just in Israel, but in neighboring countries like Jordan."

The prime minister said he would discuss the need to deescalate the situation when he speaks to G7 leaders later on Sunday. "It's important that we coordinate with allies and we'll be discussing next steps," he added.

Israel will respond to Iran's attack, but the scope has yet to be determined, Israeli official says

From CNN's Jeremy Diamond

Israel will respond to Iran’s attack, but the scope of that response has yet to be determined, an Israeli official told CNN Sunday.

The official said Israel has yet to determine whether it will try to “break all the dishes” or do something more measured.

The options are expected to be discussed in detail during Israel’s war cabinet meeting on Sunday, the official added.

IDF says it struck Hezbollah weapons manufacturing site in Lebanon

From CNN’s Charbel Mallo in Beirut and Zeena Saifi in Jerusalem

Israeli warplanes struck an “important weapons manufacturing site” belonging to Hezbollah in the Nabi Sheet area, according to the IDF spokesperson for Arab media, Avichay Adraee, in a  post  on X.

“The raid was carried out in response to the launches that violated the borders from Lebanese territory towards the north of the country during the hours last night,” he added.

Lebanon's National News Agency said earlier Sunday that an Israeli airstrike had targeted a building in the town of Nabi Sheet in Lebanon's Baalbek region.

Some context: Israeli strikes in the Baalbek region since October 7 are rarer considering it is further north into Lebanon, about 80 kilometers (or about 50 miles) from the Israel-Lebanon border.

Last Sunday, the Israeli military said it had struck four sites of Hezbollah's air defense unit in the Baalbek area.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

Qantas has announced a snap sale on its domestic network with the cheapest route starting at $105.

A major airline has slashed airfares to a holiday destination that more than a million Australian holiday makers flock to every year.

Heavy traffic fails to cast shadow over eclipse travel experience: 'It was 100% worth the trip'

A few hours after the total eclipse brought thousands of spectators to downstate illinois, traffic remained heavy on some interstates..

After viewing the spectacle that was a total solar eclipse in southern Illinois, some travelers were met with a less-incredible sight — bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The Illinois Department of Transportation estimated crowds of 100,000 to 200,000 would descend on prime viewing areas downstate ahead of the event , and told those making the trek to expect congestion.

A few hours after the eclipse reached totality in southern Illinois on Monday, IDOT said traffic remained heavy “in pockets along the length of I-57 northbound, north of Marion to Champaign, I-64 westbound west of Mt. Vernon to the Metro East St. Louis area, and all of I-24.”

Traffic is moving out post-eclipse, but slowly, with reports of crashes on some heavily traveled routes. Please continue to be patient and give yourself plenty of time if you’re leaving your eclipse destination. See you back in 2099! Tom Purdy, 42, headed from his home in Janesville, Wisconsin, to Mount Vernon in southern Illinois.

He said the worst traffic heading home was south of Effingham, but overall he expected the traffic to only tack on an additional half an hour to the usual five-hour drive.

“It was 100% worth the trip,” Purdy said.

He said he missed the total eclipse in 2017; he decided he would make the trip this year “one way or another,” ending up in a park in Mount Vernon with a few hundred other spectators.

He said he’ll be in his 60s when the next total eclipse graces North America in 2044, but he expects to make the trip again.

Jason Wright from Atlanta, Georgia, took a detour with his family to Marion on their road trip back home from a trip to St. Louis.

The trip from Marion to Atlanta was expected to take nine to 10 hours, but after a 50-mile stretch that took him three hours to get through, Wright expected the trip to take closer to 12 hours.

Despite the traffic, Wright said the experience was “spectacular.”

“I don’t have any regrets at this point, I’m glad we did it,” Wright said. “Now, ask me at 1 o’clock this morning when I’m still an hour from home, I may think differently.”

Chicago saw a partial solar eclipse, peaking at 2:07 p.m. with 94% coverage.

Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications encouraged spectators to take public transportation to viewing events around the city.

SMBs Must Report Ransom Payments in 24 Hours: CISA

CISA's new incident reporting rules

Think the March 2022 Cyber Incident Reporting Critical Infrastructure Act ( CIRCIA ) doesn't apply to your clients' businesses because they're too small? Think again. Some 311,000 thousand ‘small entities’ are subject to proposed reporting rules and regulations under the new CIRCIA law, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency ( CISA ) said this month.

Under proposed rules, covered entities (those organizations subject to the regulation) must report major cyber incidents to the CISA within 72 hours and ransom payments within 24 hours. The regulation is unlikely to take effect until late 2025 at the earliest, and possibly not until 2026, CISA said.

Why are these important figures for MSPs and MSSPs? Because small businesses are in the wheelhouse of many MSPs and MSSPs. And, of course, many MSPs and MSSPs are themselves small businesses, making it doubly important to understand the scope and reach of the CIRCIA legislation.

While a good number of small businesses hire a dedicated IT manager, MSPs and MSSPs are often part or all of the IT strategy for small and mid-sized companies. By outsourcing the responsibility of network monitoring, IT management, and cybersecurity to a third-party provider, internal IT teams or managers at small businesses can focus on strategic initiatives and core objectives rather than getting bogged down by day-to-day IT tasks and troubleshooting.

The CIRCIA Law: Reporting Requirements, Comment Period

The CIRCIA law requires CISA to develop and implement regulations requiring covered entities to report cyber incidents and ransomware payments to the agency. CISA developed a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), which was published on April 4, 2024 in the Federal Register and is open for public comment until June 3, 2024.

As to the issue of timely reporting, CISA said it “recognizes that covered entities may require some limited time to conduct preliminary analysis before establishing a reasonable belief that a covered cyber incident has occurred and thereby triggering the 72-hour timeframe for reporting.”

CIRCIA is centered around the idea that required reporting will enable CISA to deploy resources to help cyber crime victims to analyze incoming data to spot trends and share information with cyber defenders to warn other potential victims.

To determine covered organizations, CISA estimated the number of small entities within each of the 280 relevant NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) codes. CISA then performed a financial analysis to assess the impacts of the rule on small entities.

Cost Analysis on the Rule's Impact on SMBs

Based on its analysis, CISA found:

  • Of the estimated 316,244 covered entities, CISA estimates that 310,855 would be considered small entities, including businesses, some government agencies and organizations.
  • Of the 264 NAICS codes with available revenue data, 99.2% had a revenue impact of less than or equal to 1%.
  • CISA estimated that the average cost per non-covered entity would be $33.58 and the average cost per covered entity experiencing a single covered cyber incident would be $4,139.60.

Costs for covered entities will include “becoming familiar with the proposed rule, followed by the recurring data and records preservation requirements, and then reporting requirements,” CISA said.

In the NPRM, CISA said it “wants to assist small entities in understanding this proposed rule so that they can better evaluate its effects on them and participate in the rulemaking.”

Of particular note, CISA will not “retaliate against small entities that question or complain about this proposed rule or any policy or action of the CISA.”

CISA Director Calls the Rule a Game Changer

CISA director Jen Easterly, called CIRCIA a “game changer” in that it affects the “whole cyber community and people “invested” in protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure. “It will allow us to better understand the threats we face, spot adversary campaigns earlier, and take more coordinated action with our public and private sector partners in response to cyber threats,” she said in a statement. “We look forward to additional feedback from the critical infrastructure community as we move towards developing the Final Rule."

Along those lines, large entities in each of the critical infrastructure sectors are covered by the rule regardless of whether they meet certain threshold criteria. Requirements for 13 of the 16 critical infrastructure sectors are included in the proposed rule.

An Overview of the CISA Report

In a blog post, the National Law Review praised CISA for making the 400+ page report “understandable, helpful, and (gasp!) overall quite reasonable.”

Here’s a top-down look into the report from the blog:

  • CISA discusses its process for determining key definitions in the rule (including approaches it considered and ultimately discarded).
  • Provides an overview of current cyber incident reporting requirements in the U.S. (as part of a discussion regarding its harmonization efforts, for which a lot of us had high hopes that will not be realized).
  • Gives us examples of what may and may not constitute a reportable incident under the rule (for example, short-term unavailability of a business system or temporary rerouting of network traffic, or even exploitation of a known vulnerability by a threat actor that is quickly detected and remediated, typically would not be considered reportable incidents).

The Moscow Metro Museum of Art: 10 Must-See Stations

There are few times one can claim having been on the subway all afternoon and loving it, but the Moscow Metro provides just that opportunity.  While many cities boast famous public transport systems—New York’s subway, London’s underground, San Salvador’s chicken buses—few warrant hours of exploration.  Moscow is different: Take one ride on the Metro, and you’ll find out that this network of railways can be so much more than point A to B drudgery.

The Metro began operating in 1935 with just thirteen stations, covering less than seven miles, but it has since grown into the world’s third busiest transit system ( Tokyo is first ), spanning about 200 miles and offering over 180 stops along the way.  The construction of the Metro began under Joseph Stalin’s command, and being one of the USSR’s most ambitious building projects, the iron-fisted leader instructed designers to create a place full of svet (radiance) and svetloe budushchee (a radiant future), a palace for the people and a tribute to the Mother nation.

Consequently, the Metro is among the most memorable attractions in Moscow.  The stations provide a unique collection of public art, comparable to anything the city’s galleries have to offer and providing a sense of the Soviet era, which is absent from the State National History Museum.  Even better, touring the Metro delivers palpable, experiential moments, which many of us don’t get standing in front of painting or a case of coins.

Though tours are available , discovering the Moscow Metro on your own provides a much more comprehensive, truer experience, something much less sterile than following a guide.  What better place is there to see the “real” Moscow than on mass transit: A few hours will expose you to characters and caricatures you’ll be hard-pressed to find dining near the Bolshoi Theater.  You become part of the attraction, hear it in the screech of the train, feel it as hurried commuters brush by: The Metro sucks you beneath the city and churns you into the mix.

With the recommendations of our born-and-bred Muscovite students, my wife Emma and I have just taken a self-guided tour of what some locals consider the top ten stations of the Moscow Metro. What most satisfied me about our Metro tour was the sense of adventure .  I loved following our route on the maps of the wagon walls as we circled the city, plotting out the course to the subsequent stops; having the weird sensation of being underground for nearly four hours; and discovering the next cavern of treasures, playing Indiana Jones for the afternoon, piecing together fragments of Russia’s mysterious history.  It’s the ultimate interactive museum.

Top Ten Stations (In order of appearance)

Kievskaya station.

e travel 72 hours

Kievskaya Station went public in March of 1937, the rails between it and Park Kultury Station being the first to cross the Moscow River.  Kievskaya is full of mosaics depicting aristocratic scenes of Russian life, with great cameo appearances by Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin.  Each work has a Cyrillic title/explanation etched in the marble beneath it; however, if your Russian is rusty, you can just appreciate seeing familiar revolutionary dates like 1905 ( the Russian Revolution ) and 1917 ( the October Revolution ).

Mayakovskaya Station

Mayakovskaya Station ranks in my top three most notable Metro stations. Mayakovskaya just feels right, done Art Deco but no sense of gaudiness or pretention.  The arches are adorned with rounded chrome piping and create feeling of being in a jukebox, but the roof’s expansive mosaics of the sky are the real showstopper.  Subjects cleverly range from looking up at a high jumper, workers atop a building, spires of Orthodox cathedrals, to nimble aircraft humming by, a fleet of prop planes spelling out CCCP in the bluest of skies.

Novoslobodskaya Station

e travel 72 hours

Novoslobodskaya is the Metro’s unique stained glass station.  Each column has its own distinctive panels of colorful glass, most of them with a floral theme, some of them capturing the odd sailor, musician, artist, gardener, or stenographer in action.  The glass is framed in Art Deco metalwork, and there is the lovely aspect of discovering panels in the less frequented haunches of the hall (on the trackside, between the incoming staircases).  Novosblod is, I’ve been told, the favorite amongst out-of-town visitors.

Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya Station is one of palatial grandeur.  It seems both magnificent and obligatory, like the presidential palace of a colonial city.  The yellow ceiling has leafy, white concrete garland and a series of golden military mosaics accenting the tile mosaics of glorified Russian life.  Switching lines here, the hallway has an Alice-in-Wonderland feel, impossibly long with decorative tile walls, culminating in a very old station left in a remarkable state of disrepair, offering a really tangible glimpse behind the palace walls.

Dostoevskaya Station

e travel 72 hours

Dostoevskaya is a tribute to the late, great hero of Russian literature .  The station at first glance seems bare and unimpressive, a stark marble platform without a whiff of reassembled chips of tile.  However, two columns have eerie stone inlay collages of scenes from Dostoevsky’s work, including The Idiot , The Brothers Karamazov , and Crime and Punishment.   Then, standing at the center of the platform, the marble creates a kaleidoscope of reflections.  At the entrance, there is a large, inlay portrait of the author.

Chkalovskaya Station

Chkalovskaya does space Art Deco style (yet again).  Chrome borders all.  Passageways with curvy overhangs create the illusion of walking through the belly of a chic, new-age spacecraft.  There are two (kos)mosaics, one at each end, with planetary subjects.  Transferring here brings you above ground, where some rather elaborate metalwork is on display.  By name similarity only, I’d expected Komsolskaya Station to deliver some kosmonaut décor; instead, it was Chkalovskaya that took us up to the space station.

Elektrozavodskaya Station

e travel 72 hours

Elektrozavodskaya is full of marble reliefs of workers, men and women, laboring through the different stages of industry.  The superhuman figures are round with muscles, Hollywood fit, and seemingly undeterred by each Herculean task they respectively perform.  The station is chocked with brass, from hammer and sickle light fixtures to beautiful, angular framework up the innards of the columns.  The station’s art pieces are less clever or extravagant than others, but identifying the different stages of industry is entertaining.

Baumanskaya Statio

Baumanskaya Station is the only stop that wasn’t suggested by the students.  Pulling in, the network of statues was just too enticing: Out of half-circle depressions in the platform’s columns, the USSR’s proud and powerful labor force again flaunts its success.  Pilots, blacksmiths, politicians, and artists have all congregated, posing amongst more Art Deco framing.  At the far end, a massive Soviet flag dons the face of Lenin and banners for ’05, ’17, and ‘45.  Standing in front of the flag, you can play with the echoing roof.

Ploshchad Revolutsii Station

e travel 72 hours

Novokuznetskaya Station

Novokuznetskaya Station finishes off this tour, more or less, where it started: beautiful mosaics.  This station recalls the skyward-facing pieces from Mayakovskaya (Station #2), only with a little larger pictures in a more cramped, very trafficked area.  Due to a line of street lamps in the center of the platform, it has the atmosphere of a bustling market.  The more inventive sky scenes include a man on a ladder, women picking fruit, and a tank-dozer being craned in.  The station’s also has a handsome black-and-white stone mural.

Here is a map and a brief description of our route:

Start at (1)Kievskaya on the “ring line” (look for the squares at the bottom of the platform signs to help you navigate—the ring line is #5, brown line) and go north to Belorusskaya, make a quick switch to the Dark Green/#2 line, and go south one stop to (2)Mayakovskaya.  Backtrack to the ring line—Brown/#5—and continue north, getting off at (3)Novosblodskaya and (4)Komsolskaya.  At Komsolskaya Station, transfer to the Red/#1 line, go south for two stops to Chistye Prudy, and get on the Light Green/#10 line going north.  Take a look at (5)Dostoevskaya Station on the northern segment of Light Green/#10 line then change directions and head south to (6)Chkalovskaya, which offers a transfer to the Dark Blue/#3 line, going west, away from the city center.  Have a look (7)Elektroskaya Station before backtracking into the center of Moscow, stopping off at (8)Baumskaya, getting off the Dark Blue/#3 line at (9)Ploschad Revolyutsii.  Change to the Dark Green/#2 line and go south one stop to see (10)Novokuznetskaya Station.

A Survival Guide To The IU H.E.R. 2024 World Tour Concert In Singapore

South Korean singer-songwriter-actress IU will perform two sold-out dates for the Singapore stop of her H.E.R. 2024 World Tour concert. Find out how to get through one of 2024’s most notable gigs with this survival guide to the two IU concerts in Singapore – from how to get there and what to bring, to the song setlist you can expect from her extensive repertoire.

Recognised as one of K-pop ‘s best female soloists and coined as the ‘nation’s little sister’ by South Koreans, a ticket to any IU concert is highly sought after. The songstress will hit the Singapore Indoor Stadium stage this weekend for a sold-out two-night performance.

IU previously performed in Singapore at The Star Theatre in 2019 for her <LOVE, POEM> tour. Thus, this H.E.R. 2024 World Tour concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium will be IU’s debut performance at a larger venue.

The H.E.R. 2024 World Tour is in support of IU’s latest mini-album ‘The Winning’, released in February 2024. Consisting of songs like ‘Love Wins All’ and ‘Holssi’, she will perform them live alongside signature hit songs like ‘You and I’ and ‘Blueming’.

For a stress-free concert experience, pre-planning is essential to ensure maximum enjoyment. You know the drill by now from past concert experiences (yes, we’re talking about Taylor Swift and Coldplay ). Read on for our complete guide on how to survive the magical lilac-filled night that is the two-day IU concert in Singapore come 20 and 21 April 2024.
